Abstract:
Currently, the world is getting more poisonous due to the toxic contaminated and wastewater release from the industries activities. The designers should analyse the effect to the environmental and human health, prior starting any manufacturing and fabricating process. This technique able to optimize the company profit and reduced unnecessary cost by predict any consequences and do correction step before the problem emerge for every action taken. Therefore, this paper aim to provide the evidence that the selection of material and manufacturing process used to fabricate ACB has minimum impact on the environment and human health. A few methods can be used to calculate the environmental damage assessment such as network, compare and uncertainty analysis. In this study, analyse calculation method selected to predict the environmental impact. The results for the damage to human health analysis only contribute 0.0125 DALY, analysis results for the hazardous elements such as methane, trichlorofluoromethane and Chlorofluorocarbons produced during the fabrication process only 1.32 x 10-9 DALY. Besides, the major damage elements to ecosystem quality results only contribute 1.97 x 10-4 species.yr. Therefore, the remarkable results show that the process and material selection to fabricate ACB are very low which was below than 0.1 DALY. Moreover, damage assessment for the terrestrial ecotoxicity of pulforming process using oil palm natural/glass fibre reinforced polyurethane composite only contributed 1.13 × 10−10 (species.year). Consequently, the process could not damage the human health and indicates that the process is environmentally friendly and safe for the ecosystem.

Abstract:
Provincial touring companies of the late Victorian period, comprising mostly unknown actors and actresses, have received minimal scholarly attention until recently. The sheer number of ‘on-the-road’ artists who were employed in such enterprises from the late nineteenth century onwards increased to such an extent that to establish a framework for their individual and collective study presents significant challenges. This article addresses this problem by proposing a method, grounded in genealogy, that records the male and/or female artists of a given touring company over its full term without selective bias in order to establish a cohort of subjects for further examination. It tracks the touring companies of actor-manager Lawrence Daly, an individual unheard of today, between 1887 and 1900, the year of his death. One hundred and twenty-five female artists employed by Daly during this period are recovered, and their careers, family histories, and personal identities are subjected to statistical analysis. The conclusions drawn here not only contribute to the better understanding of the social history of non-elite female provincial artists of the late nineteenth century, but also afford the opportunity to shine a light on figures whose names, lives, and achievements are long forgotten. Further, a case is made for the method as the basis for a wide-ranging database of provincial touring companies and artists. Bernard Ince is an independent theatre historian who has contributed several articles on Victorian and Edwardian theatre to New Theatre Quarterly.

Abstract:
The Crude Palm Oil industry has now become the largest agricultural industry in Indonesia. Nevertheless, the growth of CPO industry could also bring negative impacts on the environment if the company does not control their emissions and discharges properly. Life-cycle Assessment (LCA) is one of the tools that can assess the environmental impacts due to CPO production activities. This study aims to assess the potential environmental impacts arising from the CPO production system at Mill J, PT XYZ, Sumatera Island by using Eco-indicator 99. Based on this study, in 2015, the process in plantation and mill contributed to climate change category was 0.013 DALY or after normalized 202 Pt. Meanwhile, the land use category has 395 PDF*m2yr or 30.8 Pt. Meanwhile, all of the other categories were less than 30.8 Pt, hence, the highest impact of this CPO production system is climate change at the activities in industrial estate (fertilizers usage) and industry (emitted from waste water of palm oil mill).

Abstract:
A conventional life cycle assessment (LCA) framework mainly evaluates the environmental impacts associated with inputs and outputs from/to external environment of a product system. However the inputs and outputs generated from a facility influence not only the external environment but also the working environment. Therefore, this study developed the methodology that could integrates the working environment into a conventional LCA framework. It established the general requirements for adjusting the levels of the system boundary and category indicators in order to integrate appropriately the impacts of both the working environment and the external environment which have the different characteristics. Thus, this study introduced Input Output Analysis (IOA) technique in order to extend the system boundary to the life cycle of a product system, and applied the category indicator such as the number of Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALY), the Potentially Affected Fraction (PAF) and Lost Work Days (LWD) in order to assess the impacts of end point level. A case study of a petrochemical company in Korea was provided as an example for illustrating the feasibility of the methodology developed in this study.

Abstract:
Introduction. Preserving and strengthening the health of the working population is one of the priority tasks in the Russian Federation. According to the "Concept of the Demographic Policy of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2025", approved by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 135 of 09.10.2007, measures to reduce the mortality rate of the population, primarily citizens of working age, should include measures to reduce the mortality rate and injuries from industrial accidents and occupational diseases. The study aims to assess the relationship of health disorders with work for certain classes of diseases and the indicator of loss of life years, adjusted for the disability of workers (DALY-disability-adjusted life years), shops of pyrometallurgical nickel refining. Materials and methods. We performed a study on JSC "Kola Mining and Metallurgical Company" (JSC "Kola MMC"), which produces and processes copper-nickel ores located in the European part of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation (Murmansk Region), which makes and processes copper-nickel ores. To assess the relationship of health disorders with work, we used the results of mandatory periodic medical examinations of 2113 employees engaged in pyrometallurgical refining of nickel and copper. Results. In the context of individual classes of diseases, experts established a statistically significant decrease in the incidence of diseases of the nervous system, skin and subcutaneous tissue, musculoskeletal system, and conditions of the genitourinary system. The conducted assessment of the connection of these health disorders with working conditions in workers of pyrometallurgical production of nickel and copper showed the presence of an average degree of contact with the impact on the body of a complex of harmful production factors of such health disorders as diseases of the nervous system, skin and subcutaneous tissue, musculoskeletal and genitourinary systems. We evaluated the effectiveness of the measures carried out using the DALY-analysis method. As a result, the researchers found a reduction in this total indicator of health loss among workers of pyrometallurgical refined nickel from 218.8 to 184.6 years (by 17.8%). Conclusions. A comprehensive assessment of health losses by the DALY analysis method indicates a significant reduction in the burden of diseases among workers of pyrometallurgical nickel refining by 15.6%, including among men - by 12.5%, among women - by 28.3%. The economic efficiency of the implemented wellness program in JSC "Kola MMC" showed that the total prevented economic damage due to reducing diseases associated with labor activity amounted to 119.3 thousand rubles per employee of metallurgical production on average for the year. The prevented economic damage resulting from the reduction of occupational diseases per employee amounted to 10.4 thousand rubles per year.

Abstract:
Background. Insufficient night-time reduction of blood pressure (BP) and night hypertension are associated with an increased risk of death regardless of the average daily BP. The study of daily BP profiles is very relevant in patients with hypertension of different age categories due to the high risk of thrombotic complications. Aim: of the study was to determine the peculiarities of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) indices in middle-aged and elderly hypertensive patients depending on the daily BP profile. Materials and methods. ABPM indicators were determined in 125 patients who were divided into 2 groups. 1st group (n=82) – middle-aged hypertensive patients (45-59 years old); 2nd group (n=43) – elderly hypertensive patients (60-74 years old). In the groups of middle-aged and elderly subjects 2 groups of daily BP profiles were distinguished: "dipper" and "non-dipper". Indices of ABPM were determined using a portable recorder ABPM-04 (company "Meditech", Hungary). Measurements of BP were performed every 15 minutes during the day (from 6 to 22 hours) and every 30 minutes at night (from 22 to 6 hours). We determined the following indices: the average daily systolic BP (SBP) (mm Hg), the average daly diastolic BP (DBP) (mm Hg), the average BP (mm Hg); the maximal daily SBP (mm Hg), the maximal daily DBP (mm Hg). The daily index (DI) was also calculated − the percentage of BP decrease at night compared to daytime BP calculated in % DI of SBP, DI of DBP, DI of average BP. Results. The baseline BP level in the average daily SBP and DBP in middle-aged patients of dipper group was significantly higher by 49,6% and corresponded to 155,9±12,0 mm Hg (p<0,001) and 50,4% and was 97,3±6,1 mm Hg (p<0,01). Similar results are observed in the average BP and the maximal daily SBP and the maximal daily DBP values which were significantly higher than the control group by 21,5% (p<0,05) and equaled 110,0±3,6 mm Hg and 21,3% and amounted to 176,3±23,5 mm Hg (p<0,05) and 23,6% and amounted to 117,0±19,2 mm Hg (p<0,05). The baseline BP level in the average daily and maximal SBP, the average daily DBP and the average BP in patients of non-dipper group was significantly higher by 50,8% (p<0,01) and corresponded to 157,1±12,9 mm Hg and 27,4% and equal to 176,9±24,0 mm Hg (p<0,05), 63,8% and amounted to 106,0±1,0 mm Hg (p<0,05) and 44% and was 124,3±6,8 mm Hg (p<0,05) too. In the surveyed elderly patients only the average daily DBP was significantly different from the corresponding control indicator and was lower by 21,4% (p<0,05) and amounted to 91,5±0,7 mm Hg in dipper and 23,1% (p<0,01) and was 93,5±0,7 mm Hg in non-dipper group. Conclusion. Non-dipper group predominates in the structure of daily BP rhythm in elderly hypertensive patients (62,8% versus 37,2%). The average BP decreases in elderly patients of non-dipper group by 11,1% (p<0,05) reliably to patients of middle age.

Abstract:
Relevance. Until now, there is an ongoing debate about the value of different indicators of blood pressure (BP) − systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), pulse blood pressure (PBP) as predictors of essential hypertension (EH). In this regard the issue of target BP levels in patients of different ages remains studied incompletely. Objective is to determine peculiarities of 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring indices in patients with essential hypertension, stage II of different age groups. Materials and methods. ABPM indicators were determined in 130 patients who were divided into 4 groups. 1st group (n=57) – middle-aged hypertensive patients (45-59 years old); 2nd group (n=43) – elderly hypertensive patients (60-74 years old); 3rd group (n=15) – middle-aged patients without EH – control for the 1st group; 4th group (n=15) − elderly patients without EH − control for the 2nd group. Indices of ABPM were determined using a portable recorder ABPM-04 (company "Meditech", Hungary). Measurements of BP were performed every 15 minutes during the day (from 6 to 22 hours) and every 30 minutes at night (from 22 to 6 hours). We determined the following indices: the average daily SBP (mm Hg), the average daly DBP (mm Hg), the average BP (mm Hg); the maximal daily SBP (mm Hg), the maximal daily DBP (mm Hg). The daily index (DI) was also calculated − the percentage of BP decrease at night compared to daytime BP calculated in % DI of SBP, DI of DBP, DI of average BP. Results. In group 1 the average and maximal DBP were lower than in group 2 by 7,4% (p<0,001) and 13,1% (p<0,05), respectively. In group 1, the average daily and maximal SBP decreased by 3,8% and 4,1%, respectively; average heart rate by 3,8%; DI of SBP by 7,8% and DI of average BP by 5,8% but the data were unreliably smaller compared to the data of middle-aged patients. In group 1, the maximal DBP, DI SBP and DBP were not significantly different from the corresponding indicators in the control group. The maximal DBP was higher by 29,3% and amounted to 115,6±21,0 mm Hg and DI SBP and DI DBP are lower by 11,1% and 17,9%, respectively; and were equal to 9,6±7,4 and 13,8±8,1, respectively. In the 2nd group the following parameters decreased unreliably (p>0,05): heart rate by 8,6% and was 63,0±9,1/min., DI SBP by 17,6% and was 8,9±5,5%; DI DBP by 16,1% and was 14,1±7,1%; DI of average BP– by 20,4% and was equal to 11,3±6,1%. Conclusions. It is found that with the age DBP decreases with steadily increased SBP in hypertensive patients. The average daily and the maximal daily DBP are significantly less by 7,4% (p<0,001) and 13,1% (p<0,05) accordingly in elderly patients compared with the middle-aged.

Abstract:
Making decisions such as checking numbers, analyzing movements, data, values is a very important factor for a company. These are activities that make it a daily challenge for a manager, making it even more difficult if performed manually. If the calculation of the data occurs erroneously, the leader can make the wrong decision and the time lost to get to the result ends up occupying his working schedule completely. The work presents the problems that lead to the stock of a glass factory in Manaus-AM, since the main system of the company in question, does not have the ability to provide the necessary data to do studies of materials, and will be implemented a Business Intelligence tool (BI - Qlik Sense) for the construction of dashboards, able to integrate together with the companys system, automating the updating of data and facilitating the manager to read the data clearly and objectively, facilitating the study of inventory.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This thesis presents the results of the research work completed in the framework of the PhD project titled “Sviluppo di una metodologia di progettazione per pompe centrifughe multistadio mediante modelli di calcolo analitici e numerici”. The latter involved the doctoral school in Industrial Engineering of Padua University and the company Franklin Electric srl. The aim of the study is the development of tools and knowledge to support the industrial development of multistage centrifugal pumps featuring compact design stages and produced by sheet metal forming and welding. The first part of the work deals with numerical modelling of multistage centrifugal pumps. Both turbulence modelling and the physical approach are addressed. A modelling strategy featuring a low computational cost is presented and validated experimentally. The model is integrated with the experimental characterization of the wear ring seals typically used in the type of pumps considered. The capability of the model to evaluate the performance, the efficiency and the axial thrust of compact design stages is presented. In the second part of the work, the numerical model is used to develop design guidelines for the machines under study. In particular, the individual hydraulic characteristics of the annular chamber and return channels are presented firstly. Then, these data are integrated into an analytical model conceived to evaluate the optimal value of the loading factor for compact design stages, under given design constraints. Finally, the information and methods presented in the thesis are casted into a design methodology specifically conceived for compact design stages.

Abstract:
A growing society requires a constant need for new technological solutions and innovations to meet the society's demands and for its continued development. In Sweden there are shortcomings in its innovation system, where support for small scale companies and for upscaling is deficient. This thesis consists of a study carried out for Produktionsänglar, a concept which supports startups and smaller companies that want to scale up a physical product from an idea to batch production. Produktionsänglar have previously invested resources in understanding the startups perspective, but the same emphasis has not been placed on the manufacturers side. Thus the same understanding does not exist regarding the manufacturers' perspective. Through interviews with manufacturing companies, the requirements, more specifically the conditions which the manufacturing company places on startups have been identified in order to match the two parties without difficulty and where the startups idea can commercialize. The results of the study show that startups need to review five conditions for manufacturing companies in order for them to adopt their idea and be willing to cooperate. They should have a financial plan, matching industry with a clear idea, review market potential, patents and get involved with the manufacturing companies in earlier stages.

Abstract:

Abstract:

This thesis analyses the scope of the treaty articles 43 and 48 concerning the freedom of establishment of companies. The interpretations of these articles made by the Commission and the European Court of Justice are analysed to see whether they are consistent. The analysis encompasses the provisions and directives in the field of EC Company Law as well as the essential case law from the ECJ regarding these issues. The conclusion that must be drawn from this thesis is that the Court of Justice adds the momentum in these issues whilst the Commission is held up by political considerations.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter traces the use of religious governance in England’s early attempts to colonise Virginia between 1606 and 1624. It assesses how, in the initial steps to establish English authority abroad, religious governance was influenced by the political and governmental characters of successive company leaders such as Thomas Dale, Thomas Gates and John Smith. This explains why the Virginia Company embraced multiple forms of religious governance that would later be used as separate and distinct models of governance by successive companies. The Virginia Company experimented with religious governance to secure their control over English personnel abroad. Moreover, it became an instrumental tool in the companies’ attempts to expand their jurisdictional authority over Native American leaders, such as Powhatan, Pocahontas and her uncle Uttamatomakkin. By doing this company leaders hoped to establish governmental control over Native American peoples, and traditions, such as those Smith writes about in Generall Histoirie of Virginia, traditionally considered beyond the bounds of English governance. Finally, it examines how the experiences and memories of religious governance in the Virginia Company provided the groundwork for future forms of corporate religious governance to evolve.

abstract The Kuwait Oil Company’s (KOC) has significantly increased its dependence on Artificial Lift systems (AL) to reach their yearly production targets. Multiple AL systems are deployed however the major AL system used is the Electrical Submersible Pump where currently there are over 3,300 ESPs accounting for about 70% of the company’s production. Initial implementation of ESPs at the company started in the 1980s, throughout the next few decades only a handful of ESPs were installed. In 2008, ESP installations increased rapidly and currently these ESPs are producing most of the oil production within the company. Over the past 5 years, the ESP population has doubled with additional installations each month. Forecast shows that the ESP population would surpass 4,000 ESPs in 2024. The company’s ESP operations is divided into four main assets, North Kuwait, South Kuwait, East Kuwait, and West Kuwait. Each asset has their own staff that monitor the wells under their scope and aim to maximize production and operating life of these ESPs. Each asset is managed by a Team Leader that looks at the total asset’s operations, production, and performance. Each Team Leader has a number of Senior Engineers divided into well clusters that manage their own clusters, and each Senior Engineer has 2 – 4 Field Engineers that monitor both short term and long term performance on each individual well.

Abstract:
Abstract Oil and gas companies continuously invest on digital transformation, to economically improve logistics workflow and enhance service providers interaction. A unique digital solution has been designed to automate business processes and reduce unexpected deviations from drilling operation execution process; to avoid unplanned costs and delays affecting overall drilling performance. The manuscript will focus on drilling process modifications and performance impact resulted from implementing drilling forecasting approach for materials and services. Company and Software Provider jointly developed and implemented drilling forecast Report on top of existing reporting system to support drilling operations execution as per short- and long-term plans set earlier. Overall workflow and interconnection logic of steps were defined based on current Company's Standard Operating Procedures detailing Drilling Operation Policies and Instructions. Which ensured the software solution to be fully compliant with Company requirement. The developed automated Report passed a series of comprehensive tests in real conditions and after proven success; was decided to be implemented in Production environment to be efficiently utilized. Following the specific logic of Company's drilling operations execution, the automated forecast report improved planning procedures and automated the information exchange between Company and respective Service Providers to support smooth logistics of materials and personnel that required to be delivered to rig sites or removed from it. Implementation of first phase required strong dedication of drilling engineers, the developed report was designed to eventually lighten the current workload and release additional man-hours in future to analyze and optimize existing procedures. As a digital solution, the report was designed to gather required information from different data sources and automatically compare it with current drilling operations status; to evaluate current phase and predict accordingly the next 10 days of forecast for drilling operations, materials to be prepared and personnel to be located. Which helped to assure materials and field engineers availability on rig site on time. Assuring cost saving and avoiding unplanned logistics costs due to potential deviation and optimized overall Company's financial burden. The forecast report is being developed to be auto generated and shared on daily basis for all rigs to be available for all suppliers on daily basis. Automated forecast Report implanted on top of existing database is enriching current reporting system. Utilizing a digital and automated approach for forecasting daily operation and planning tool for services and materials ahead of time would improve drilling performance efficiency, eliminate any unwanted delays and complement Company's digital strategy.

Lopes, Marcelo Garcez. "Safety Culture." In 2010 8th International Pipeline Conference. ASMEDC, 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/ipc2010-31368.

Abstract:
The occurrence of accidents which resulted in lost work time, since 2007, prompted the Company to invest in a new Educational Program to prevent accidents. The program was divided into several parts. One of these parts was the project on Safety Culture. The Safety Culture project had been implemented since September, 2009, at PETROBRAS TRANSPORTES S.A. – TRANSPETRO, in Guarulhos, Sa˜o Paulo, Brazil. The project had intended to change the employee’s behavior, informing the employees, who are exposed the risks, to know and understand the risks associated with their tasks, delivering a higher perception of the risks and making possible a change of behavior resulting in employees reaching a safe attitude. The Safety Culture project was developed specifically for TRANSPETRO. The project was divided in three parts: Safety Culture Visual, Procedures and Leading with Safety. This paper will discuss the content one part, Safety Culture Visual. The Safety Culture Visual concept has as its main objective to completely change the visual of the Company. In this concept about Safety Culture Visual, the Company wanted to demonstrate its concern with employee’s safety. Although the goal of the project was to change worker’s behavior, it was important first to communicate that having a strong Safety Culture is a main objective of the Company’s culture. The beginning of the paper discusses how the company can change its visual. By changing your visual, the company can demonstrate to workers that they are interested in their safety and their lives. Posting warning signs at the entrance of the company, at the entrance of the offices, streets, work areas, and other settings where employees must go were all small signs that the company had started to focus on the importance of having a safety culture. By installing warning signs everywhere, workers who are exposed to the risks can better know and understand the risks associated with their tasks. This greater awareness of the risks associated with their tasks provide the employee a greater insight to the risks, enabling a behavior change and helping them reach a complete attitude on safety. The methodology that the Company has been using to implement this change in vision is an “Andrago´gico Model”, exploring the experience of the person; with a focus on the day by day work and daily life situations. The project has been applied in the form of weekly leadership meetings, where everybody has the opportunity to suggest ideas as to promote the change. Expecting results and consequence of the Project: • to turn the concept of safety into a real value to the worker; • to preserve the integrity and to give value to the life of the employee; • pursue a lasting and stable changing of behavior, with a culture based on safety; and • to support the management safety system and reduction of accidents. This project has reduced worker’s exposure to risks and has diminished the number of industrial accidents. Accidents with lost time: using a different concept to deal with safety, focusing directly on the behavior of the worker, leading the worker to a shaper perception of the risks and thus enabling a change of behavior towards a safer attitude.

Abstract:
The write-off of goods, especially in the fresh food supply chain, represents a significant cost to the company. The purpose of the research is to analyse the impact of the COVID19 epidemic in the fruit and vegetable distribution company and to determine the extent to which the epidemic in 2020 affected the company's operations and the amount of goods written off. Knowing the latter is the first step to improving processes and reducing costs in the company. The analysis was performed using a comparative study of data for 2019 and 2020. The total weight of goods sold in 2020 compared to 2019 fell by 28.6%. Similarly, in 2020 the total value of written-off goods decreased by 31.3%. Furthermore, factors influencing the value of writtenoff goods, such as the purchase value of products, the number of products, the number of orders per day and the number of employees (order preparation and weighting) were studied statistically. We found a relationship between the value of written-off goods and the number of employees and the number of products being prepared. The results represent an insight into the problem and serve as a starting point for optimizing the purchase of goods, the correct turning of stocks and work processes of employees in the warehouse, i.e. optimization of logistics processes in the company. Reducing the quantity of written-off goods is a long-term and demanding process, which significantly improves the company's profit.

Abstract:
The credit policy is a basis of receivables management. The competent combination of its parameters allows to increase a greater effect of commercial crediting applying by the company. The purpose of this study is to develop a methodology for assessing the effectiveness of various credit policy types: conservative, moderate and aggressive. The comparative analysis of three methods of assessment of the credit policy efficiency is carried out in the article: The NPV analysis, the valuation model based on the average daily margin and the model for assessing the impact of changes in the company’s credit policy. As a result, the technique of the full and quick estimate methods of the credit policy ef-ficiency, including calculation of individual, intermediate and integrated indicators are offered. The method is based on three groups of the indicators, reflecting the company credit policy efficiency in the following directions: quality receivables management, receivables costs maintenance and influ-ence on a company financial condition. The influence of each of the indicator and indicators groups when using different credit policy’s types were proved in the article and that allowed to transform them to a general integrated indicator. This technique allows to estimate in a complex and objectively efficiency of the credit policy operating in the company.

Under the Efficient Market Hypothesis stock prices should reflect only the fundamental information relevant to the company in question. If other, such as behavioural factors affect the stock price, then this discrepancy should be resolved by the means of arbitrage traders. In our study we look at the effect of retail trader attention on the volatility of renewable energy companies’ stocks. We find that attention, measured by Google Trends, is a good in-sample predictor of next day volatility for a given company’s stock. We later try to explore this anomaly in an out-of-sample study.

Abstract:
A thermal analysis was performed for the Advanced Gas Reactor test experiment number three/four (AGR-3/4) irradiated at the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL). Several fuel irradiation experiments are planned for the AGR Fuel Development and Qualification Program which supports the development of the Very-High-Temperature gas-cooled Reactor (VHTR) under the Next-Generation Nuclear Plant (NGNP) project. AGR-3/4 combines two tests in a series of planned AGR experiments to test tristructural-isotropic (TRISO)-coated, low-enriched uranium oxycarbide fuel. The AGR-3/4 test was designed primarily to assess fission product transport through various graphite materials. The AGR-3/4 test was inserted in the ATR beginning in 2011 and is currently still in the reactor. Forty-eight (48) TRISO fueled compacts were inserted into twelve separate capsules for the experiment. The purpose of this analysis was to calculate the temperatures of each compact and graphite layer to obtain daily average temperatures and to compare with experimentally measured thermocouple data. Heat rates were input from a detailed physics analysis using the MCNP code for each day during the experiment. Individual heat rates for each non-fuel component were input as well. A steady-state thermal analysis was performed for each daily calculation. A finite element model was created for this analysis using the commercial finite element heat transfer and stress analysis package ABAQUS. The fission and neutron gamma heat rates were calculated with the nuclear physics code MCNP. ATR outer shim control cylinders and neck shim rods along with driver fuel power and fuel depletion were incorporated into the daily physics heat rate calculations. Compact and graphite thermal conductivity were input as a function of temperature and neutron fluence with the field variable option in ABAQUS. Surface-to-surface radiation heat transfer along with conduction heat transfer through the gas mixture of helium-neon (used for temperature control) was used in these models. The kinetic theory of gases was used to correlate the thermal conductivity of the gas mixture. Model results are compared to thermocouple data taken during the experiment. Future thermal analysis models will consider control temperature gas gaps and fuel compact–graphite holder gas gaps varying from the original fabrication dimensions as a function of fast neutron fluence.

Abstract:
This synthesis paper summarises patterns in the lived experience of 25 children in Hazaribagh, Dhaka who went about a typical day in their lives. Combining use of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, a survey children completed via a mobile phone app, and ethnographic observations, children and adult researchers recorded locations, times of day, activities, and feelings. The paper brings into view the challenges that children in worst forms of child labour navigate before, after, and between work. The findings illustrate how children live in small worlds with adult concerns. We are able to see the range of responsibilities that they take on to provide for their families, and the poor treatment they receive from parents, supervisors, and people in the community, as they navigate their days. This is a confusing and lonely social landscape with little free time to spend relaxing in the company of their peers. Children find little respite from the excessively long hours that they work, the hot conditions, and the repetitive work. Many of the children endure constant discomfort, pain, hunger, heightened risks of accidents, sexual harassment, and violence. Poor home and neighbourhood environments amplify the levels of tiredness and risk. Yet in the details of all the varied and layered abuses and challenges the children navigate, we find clues for small improvements that may make a big difference to their daily lives.

Abstract:
Background Written action plans providing guidance in the early treatment of asthma exacerbations have traditionally advocated doubling of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) as one of the first steps in treatment. Objectives To compare the clinical effectiveness of increasing the dose of ICS versus keeping the usual maintenance dose as part of a patientinitiated action plan at the onset of asthma exacerbations. Search methods We searched the Cochrane Airways Group Specialised Register (last search October 2009) which is derived from searches of CENTRAL, MEDLINE, EMBASE and CINAHL, as well as handsearched respiratory journals and meeting abstracts. Selection criteria Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) that compared the strategy of increasing the daily dose of ICS to continuing the same ICS dose in the home management of asthma exacerbations in children or adults with persistent asthma on daily maintenance ICS. Data collection and analysis Two review authors independently selected trials, assessed quality and extracted data. We contacted authors of RCTs for additional information Main results Five RCTs (four parallel-group and one cross-over) involving a total of 1250 patients (28 children and 1222 adults) with mild to moderate asthma were included. The mean daily baseline ICS dose was 555 mcg (range 200 mcg to 795 mcg) and the mean daily ICS dose achieved following increase was 1520 mcg (range 1000 mcg to 2075 mcg), in CFC beclomethasone dipropionate equivalents. Three parallel-group studies in adults (two doubling and one quadrupling; mean achieved daily dose of 1695 mcg with a range of 1420 to 2075 mcg), involving 1080 patients contributed data to the primary outcome. There was no significant reduction in the need for rescue oral corticosteroids when patients were randomised to the increased ICS compared to stable maintenance dose groups (OR 0.85, 95% CI 0.58 to 1.26). There was no significant difference in the overall risk of non-serious adverse events associated with the increased ICS dose strategy, but the wide confidence interval prevents a firm conclusion. No serious adverse events were reported. Authors’ conclusions There is very little evidence from trials in children. In adults with asthma on daily maintenance ICS, a self-initiated ICS increase to 1000 to 2000 mcg/day at the onset of an exacerbation is not associated with a statistically significant reduction in the risk of exacerbations requiring rescue oral corticosteroids. More research is needed to assess the effectiveness of increased ICS doses at the onset of asthma exacerbations (particularly in children).

Edgecomb, Ian M., and Ross Brisco. The Value of Engineering Design Research. The Design Society, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.35199/report.valueedr.

Abstract:
The research presented within this paper was first envisioned at the Design Society Rigi Meeting 2023 in Paris, France. During Science Day, where attendees include the Design Society Board of Management, Advisory Board, Special Interest Groups and ChaptersLeaders and other invited guests including representatives of SNCF Research (host of the meeting), it was identified that Design Society members can face the challenge of justifying the value of engineering design. This value has been harder to justify in recent years with a lack of visibility of the impact of engineering design. This value is important to state to increase the chances of securing research funding for design society members, and toinfluence policy and strategy on funding of engineering design research in the future as is an aim of the charitable company.

Abstract:
The next reflection has the purpose of analyzing the resilience strategies of Afghan women and girls throughout the 21st century to compare them with those other strategies that many Mexican women and girls from rural and urban communities have to use on a daily life to survive in the midst of different types of conditions of marginalization, discrimination and violence. The communication compares the representation and construction of negative female stereotypes originated in the most traditional visions of islam and catholicism to analyze the response that contemporary, resilient, and combative women have offered to fight against these cultural assumptions in search of greater freedoms, rights, and opportunities to live with dignity. This cultural comparison has the purpose of looking at women as active subjects, capable of responding and acting in situations of oppression, discrimination, and daily mistreatment in patriarchal societies where violence against women is one of the social, political, economic and cultures of most urgent attention.

Kim, Joseph J., and Jose Alejandro Arroyo Turcios. Economic Evaluation of Route Choice Characteristics for Company Truck Drivers and Owner-Operator Truck Drivers in Southern California Freeways. Mineta Transportation Institute, June 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.31979/mti.2023.2242.

Abstract:
To contribute to the understanding of freeway capacity and financing options, this study evaluates the demand for truck-only toll lanes on Southern California freeways. The study implemented surveys to both company truck drivers and owner-operator truck drivers to estimate the value they place on time, reliability, and safety measures. The research team met face-to-face with both types of truck drivers near the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to understand the drivers’ perspectives regarding truck-only toll lanes on Southern California freeways. A data set containing 45 surveys out of 62 survey responses were used for statistical analysis. The results showed that the tolerated toll fees that both types of truck drivers combined were willing to pay ranged from $3.27 an hour to $41.45 an hour with an average of $20.50 an hour during weekdays, while those fees ranged from $3.04 an hour to $36.12 an hour with an average of $18.12 an hour during weekends. Both types of truck drivers are unwilling to pay toll fees for the routes used in six comparisons out of nine, despite sharing a common origin and destination. Data shows that, regardless of ownership type, both types of truck drivers similarly value a route with truck only lanes. The highest toll fee per mile on any day that drivers are willing to pay when the main factor being compared is value of travel time (VOT) is $0.54 per mile or $32.38 an hour. The figures for the value of reliability (VOR) and safety measures are $0.47 per mile or $15.76 an hour and $0.17 per mile or $9.80 an hour, respectively. The VOR is important because it helps shippers and freight carriers make predictable travel times to remain competitive. These results are meaningful for legislators and transportation agencies because the behaviors and route choice characteristics of both types of drivers help them better reduce scheduling costs, understand the utility and demand for truck-only toll lanes, and resolve traffic congestion in the study area.
