Abstract:
Extractive document summarization (EDS) is usually seen as a sequence labeling task, which extracts sentences from a document one by one to form a summary. However, extracting sentences separately ignores the relationship between the sentences and documents. One solution is to use sentence position information to enhance sentence representation, but this will cause the sentence-leading bias problem, especially in news datasets. In this paper, we propose a novel sentence centrality for the EDS task to address these two problems. The sentence centrality is based on directed graphs, while reflecting the sentence-document relationship, it also reflects the sentence position information in the document. We implicitly strengthen the relevance of sentences and documents by using sentence centrality to enhance sentence representation. Notably, we replaced the sentence position information with sentence centrality to reduce sentence-leading bias without causing model performance degradation. Experiments on the CNN/Daily Mail dataset showed that EDS models with sentence centrality significantly improved compared with baseline models.

Abstract:
In Chinese languages, tones are used to express the lexical meaning of words. It is therefore important to analyze the role of lexical tone in Chinese sentence recognition accuracy. There is a lack of research on the role of Cantonese lexical tones in sentence recognition accuracy. Therefore, this study examined the contribution of lexical tone information to Cantonese sentence recognition accuracy and its cognitive correlates in adults with normal hearing (NH). A text-to-speech synthesis engine was used to synthesize Cantonese daily-use sentences with each word carrying an original or a flat lexical tone, which were then presented to 97 participants in quiet, in speech-shaped noise (SSN), and in two-talker babble (TTB) noise conditions. Both target sentences and noises were presented at 65 dB binaurally via insert headphones. It was found that listeners with NH can almost perfectly recognize a daily-use Cantonese sentence with mismatched lexical tone information in quiet, while their sentence recognition decreases substantially in noise. The same finding was reported for Mandarin, which has a relatively simple tonal system, suggesting that the current results may be applicable to other tonal languages. In addition, working memory (WM) was significantly related to decline in sentence recognition score in the TTB but not in the SSN, when the lexical tones were mismatched. This finding can be explained using the Ease of Language Understanding model and suggests that those with higher WM are less likely to be affected by the degraded lexical information for perceiving daily-use sentences in the TTB.

Abstract:
Analysis of the Completeness of the Paragraph Reasoning Elements and Reasoning Patterns in the Headlines of Kompas Daily Newspapers. This study aims to determine the completeness of the elements and paragraph reasoning patterns in Kompas daily headlines. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data source of this research is Kompas daily newspaper. The results showed that the elements of the paragraphs used in Kompas daily headlines were the main sentence elements, explanatory sentences, affirmative sentences, and transitions, and used deductive, inductive, and mixed paragraph reasoning patterns. The paragraph elements used in Kompas daily headlines are complete and there are all patterns of reasoning in his writings, although more often use deductive patterns.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to describe the use of Implicature in Argumentative Discourse in Kompas.com Daily Reader Letter. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The primary data in this research is in the form of quotations containing implicature contained in the reader's letter of Kompas.com daily. The result of this research can be concluded that there are 88 data quotations that contain implicature. Based on the 88 quotations, there are four forms of implied declarative sentences, interrogative sentences, imperative sentences, and explicative sentences. The distribution of the data presents 18 data are declarative sentence implicatures, 15 data are interrogative sentences, 7 data are imperative sentences, and 4 data are exclamative sentences. In terms of intent, there are three implicature intentions in the form of sentences meaning appeal, sentences meaning insinuation or prohibition, and sentences meaning warning. The distribution of the data presents as many as 13 data are sentences meaning appeal, 22 data mean insinuation or prohibition, and 9 data mean warning. Based on the results of the analysis, the implicature in the form of declarative sentences is the most found, and exclamative sentences are rarely found. In terms of intent, the meaning of sarcasm or prohibition is the most common, while the meaning of warning is the least common.

Abstract:
This article will describe syntactic construction errors in the editorial of the daily “Suara Merdeka” edition from December 2021 to January 2022. The type of research used is qualitative research. The research data is in the form of sentences in the editorial which contain syntactic construction errors at the phrase and sentence level. Data collection techniques used are reading techniques and note-taking techniques. The results showed that 92.8% of the sentences in the daily editorial were in accordance with the syntactic construction. However, 7.2% of them still found that the syntactic construction was wrong at the phrase and sentence level. Phrasal level syntactic construction errors were found due to redundant meaning, while sentence level syntactic construction errors included (1) unsubjected sentences (2) excessive use of conjunctions, (3) ambiguous sentences, (4) redundant use of words, (5) use of terms. foreign, (6) sentence logic.ABSTRAK Artikel ini akan mendeskripsikan kesalahan konstruksi sintaksis pada tajuk rencana harian “Suara Merdeka” edisi Desember 2021 sampai dengan Januari 2022. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif. Data penelitian berupa kalimat dalam tajuk rencana yang terdapat kesalahan konstruksi sintaksis tataran frasa dan kalimat. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik baca dan teknik catat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 92,8% kalimat dalam tajuk rencana harian itu sudah sesuai dengan konstruksi sintaksis. Akan tetapi masih ditemukan 7,2% yang konstruksi sintaksisnya salah pada tataran frasa dan tataran kalimat. Kesalahan konstruksi sintaksis tataran frasa yang ditemukan karena makna redundan, sedangkan kesalahan konstruksi sintaksis tataran kalimat meliputi (1) kalimat tidak bersubjek (2) penggunaan konjungsi yang berlebihan, (3) kalimat ambigu, (4) penggunaan kata mubazir, (5) penggunaan istilah asing, (6) logika kalimat.Kata kunci: konstruksi sintaksis; tajuk rencana; Suara Merdeka

Jumbled sentence items in language assessment have been criticized by some authors as inauthentic. However, unscrambling jumbled sentences is a common occurrence in real-world communication in English as a lingua franca. Naturalistic inquiry identified 54 instances of jumbled sentence use in daily life in Dubai/Sharjah, where English is widely used as a lingua franca. Thus it is seen that jumbled sentence test items can reflect real-world language use. To evaluate scrambled sentence test items, eight test item types developed from one jumbled sentence instance (“Want taxi Dubai you?”) were analyzed in terms of interactivity and authenticity. Items ranged from being completely decontextualized, non-interactive, and inauthentic to being fully contextualized, interactive, and authentic. To determine appropriate assessment standards for English tests in schools in this region, the English language standards for schools and English language requirements for university admission in the UAE were analyzed. Schools in Dubai/Sharjah use Inner Circle English varieties of English (e.g., British or American English) as the standard for evaluation, as well as non-native-English-speaker varieties (e.g., Indian English(es)). Also, students applying to English-medium universities in the UAE must meet the required scores on standardized English tests including the IELTS and TOEFL. Standards for evaluation of communication in English involving tasks of jumbled sentences in classroom tests must reflect the language learning goals of the school and community. Thus standards for classroom assessment of English in Dubai/Sharjah are determined by local schools’ and universities’ policies.

This research is a case study on the ability of children with intellectual disabilities in morphosyntax abilities. It is well-known that the language skills of children with intellectual disabilities do not compare with those of other normal children, where they will have language delays and even language disorders. The subject of this study was KH, a 12-year-old child with mild intellectual disability, before doing speech therapy was only able to say one or two words. After 30 speech therapy sessions, the researcher wanted to know the morphological ability in the use of affixes when speaking and the syntax abilities in the use of phrases and the use of sentence types. The methods used in collecting data were observation and interview. Researchers also used fishing techniques with flashcards and were asked to tell the daily activities of KH. The results of this study show that after 30 times of speech therapy, KH is able to use affixation and is able to use simple sentences and complex sentences when communicating

Abstract:
The imperative sentences in the source language are categorized as imperative instructions. World health organization instructs the general population not to over-take information when reading or searching for information about Corona Virus Disease 2019 because it affects our mentality. It also instructs to avoid using unhelpful coping strategies. The imperative structure rules for English and Indonesian are different. This paper aims to explore the translation techniques used in translating imperative sentences in the ‘Mental health and psychosocial considerations during the COVID-19 outbreak’ text into Indonesian. The authors use Molina and Albir’s (2002) translation techniques. Data collection is done by taking twenty-three the imperatives in the source language of thirty imperative sentences in the text. The imperative sentences in the SL which have infinitive verbs without to are followed by a noun, verb-ing, past participle, adjective, and second person reflexive pronoun. It is found the suffix -lah to emphasize the verb in the TL. Twenty-two data consist of positive imperative sentences and one negative imperative sentence. The results show that from the twenty-three data, the authors found that there were six translation techniques used by the authors as the translators, namely: compensation, establish equivalent, reduction, transposition, literal, and modulation. The authors used literal translation mostly, and it is done because the starting point of the imperative sentences are at the initial of the sentence and they are readable in the TL. The imperative is the starting of meaning for the source language and the target language. The readers are more acceptable to understand the context of the text. They are expected to implement the instructions in their daily lives.

Abstract:
The article summarizes the main approaches to the problem of inanimate subject in Japanese. While English has a strong tendency to use inanimate subject on a daily basis, Japanese language has a lot of restrictions for this type of construction. As these restrictions seem to appear both in subjects and predicates of the sentences, the two approaches – nominal and verbal – were elaborated in order to account for the phenomena. Nominal approach accounts for the nouns, that tend to appear in the subject or object position, while verbal approach tries to find out which verbs can be used in the sentences with an inanimate subject. This article outlines the nominal approach and explains two theories that were elaborated in Japanese studies. The first theory developed by T. Tsunoda adopts referential hierarchy of Silverstein and states that although personal pronouns and nouns that indicate animate objects have a stronger tendency to become a subject of the sentence, there is a hierarchy between the nouns that name inanimate objects. For example, the nouns that indicate natural forces are more likely to become the subject of the sentence than nouns that indicate abstract notions and territory names. The second theory developed by S. Saito adopts the empathy hierarchy (hierarchy of the positions) of S. Kuno in order to account for the extending acceptance of the sentences with inanimate subject that include auxiliary verb ‘kureru’. The theory states that ‘kureru’ in such types of sentences manages to balance empathy on the non-subject participant (which is an animated entity) rather than the subject, that results into an acceptance of the type of sentences. The article also suggests that there are some similarities in the way Ukrainian and Japanese speakers tend to translate English sentences that have an inanimate subject. The article also points out the necessity for Ukrainian studies to develop its own approach to the sentences with inanimate subject, because it seems that Ukrainian language has its own restrictions on such sentences.

Abstract:
Discourse markers typically appear in daily life conversations, and the use of discourse markers of men and women is different depending on language use. The purpose of this study was to investigate functions of the discourse marker “Ah”, which appeared in the sitcom IPartment. The data were analyzed using the perspectives of gender and language use. The findings indicated that the discourse marker “Ah” appeared in the sitcom had various functions. The indicator "Ah" emphasized the sentences at the initial position, led to correction on wrong or unexpectedly sent messages, smoothened the sentences, stressed the whole sentences, provided examples, attracted the audiences, responded to situations, and showed responses. In addition, both men and women most frequently used “Ah” as emphasizing the sentences at the initial position. There was a total of 203 occurrences of “Ah” discourse markers used by male characters and a total of 89 occurrences of “Ah” discourse markers used by female characters. The findings indicated that the male characters used “Ah” more frequently than the female characters did.

Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to determine the use of Indonesian standard in headline news in newspaper discourse relate to the diction/vocabulary; writing; sentence structure; and use of vernacular languages, and foreign terms. This research focuses on the use of Indonesian standard in the headline newspaper of Harian Fajar newspaper. This research is a qualitative method of content analysis. The source data are from daily Harian Fajar Tajuk Newspaper. The result showed that the diction or vocabulary in the discourse of headline news used language hyperbole, oxymoron, and personification. The writing word such as acronyms, technical terms. The majority of the style of language used by the writer is hyperbole. The writer used many acronyms. The technical terms are dominated by English vocabulary. The writing is not appropriate, namely: the writing of the word, the error in the writing of letters, capital letters, the compound word, and preposition di. Particle that often arise in the writing errors is pun. These of punctuation is not appropriate, namely the use of comma, in the details of words and the use of hyphen in the decoding in the words. The sentence structure in the form of the head line news of Harian Fajar is to be a symbol (+), proverbs, advice, and imperative sentence. The ambiguous sentence, conjunction occur due to improving is not appropriate, ie: untuk kemudian, padahal agar, mesti, sehingga, jadi, karena, disebabkan oleh, dan bahwa. Many sentences found in the data are ineffective. One of the reasons is became of a combination of the two ideas in a sentence. There is a tendency of the writer to write down his words affix me- writer the based words only and many sentences do not have clear subject.

Idiom is not only an important part of Chinese vocabulary, it also reflects the cultural characteristics of a country. Idioms use special rhetoric, unlike sentences used in daily conversation. Sentences in idioms contain artistic values and have different patterns than those used in daily life. Because of their different cultural backgrounds, Indonesian learners have encountered many difficulties in learning Chinese idioms. In order to help the Indonesian learners to eliminate the cultural barriers of learning idioms, the author makes a study of “A Comparison Between Chinese and Indonesia Idioms in Meaning and Rhetoric —Taking Water-related Idioms as Examples”.On the basis of qualitative description and data analysis, this paper draws a conclusion: There are 6 same meanings and 55 different meanings of Chinese and Indonesian idioms with "water". In addition, Chinese idioms with the word "water" use metaphor rhetoric, while Indonesian idioms with "water" use simile besides metaphor rhetoric.

Abstract:
The aim of this research is to invesitgate students’ error in using English written passive sentence. The subjetcs of this research were ten second semester students of English department setudents of STKIP Al Hikmah Surabaya who took Basic English Grammar course. The objectives of this course were the students had ability in using accurate English grammar either in spoken and written for formal (scientifict and academic) or informal (daily communication) context. Passive sentence was one of grammar materials taught in this course. The objective of the material was the students were able to use passive sentence in spoken and written context. The research used descriptive quantitaive method as design of this research. The instrument of this research were documentation. The data of this research were students’ work in writing sentence using accurate passive sentence. The result of this research showed many students made errors in composing passive sentence. There were 80 errors found from students’ sentences. 45% errors made by the students when they could not use correct past participle on their sentence. The result also showed that 22,5% error found from students’ work when they omitted be as the main component of passive sentence. There were also 17,5% errors found from students sentence in using correct be form on their sentence. 15% errors were also found based on the use of accurate singular and plural component of passive sentence.

With the continuous promotion and development of the new curriculum reform, English teaching is becoming more practical and comprehensive. As an indispensable part of daily English topics, the use rate and scope of English attributive clauses are extensive. Moreover, due to English attributive provisions, the length of the whole English sentence will inevitably increase; therefore, we can accurately understand and translate sentences by mastering the translation and understanding details of attributive clauses. In addition, there are noticeable differences between English and Chinese in attributive clauses. Chinese will not add a variety of modifiers like English but will directly put them in front of them as attributives, so we should pay attention to this in translation. This process increases the difficulty of the English translation. Therefore, this paper proposes a Corpus-based intelligent calibration of English long sentence translation. Based on the construction of the English long sentence Corpus, an intelligent calibration algorithm for English long sentence translation is designed, and experiments verify the effectiveness of this method.

ABSTRACTThis study examines patterns of transfer in the sentence processing strategies displayed by Chinese-English and English–Chinese bilinguals. Our results indicate that late bilinguals display strong evidence for forward transfer: late Chinese–English bilinguals transfer animacybased strategies to English sentences; late English–Chinese bilinguals transfer English-like word order strategies to Chinese. Early bilinguals display a variety of transfer patterns, including differentiation (use of animacy strategies in Chinese and word order strategies in English) and backward transfer (use of L2 processing strategies in L1, a possible symptom of language loss). These unusual transfer patterns reflect a complex interaction of variables, including age of exposure to L2 and patterns of daily language use. Implications of these findings for the critical period hypothesis are discussed, together with some new hypotheses concerning the interaction between acquisition of L2 and maintenance of L1.

Negotiation constitutes a fundamental skill that applies to several daily life contexts; however, providing a reliable assessment and definition of it is still an open challenge. The aim of this research is to present an in-depth analysis of the negotiations occurring in a role-play simulation between users and virtual agents using Natural Language Processing. Users were asked to interact with virtual characters in a serious game that helps practice negotiation skills and to complete a psychological test that assesses conflict management skills on five dimensions. The dialogues of 425 participants with virtual agents were recorded, and a dataset comprising 4250 sentences was built. An analysis of the personal pronouns, word context, sentence length and text similarity revealed an overall consistency between the negotiation profiles and the user verbal choices. Integrating and Compromising users displayed a greater tendency to involve the other party in the negotiation using relational pronouns; on the other hand, Dominating individuals tended to use mostly single person pronouns, while Obliging and Avoiding individuals were shown to generally use fewer pronouns. Users with high Integrating and Compromising scores adopted longer sentences and chose words aimed at increasing the other party’s involvement, while more self-concerned profiles showed the opposite pattern.

As a natural and convenient interaction modality, voice input has now become indispensable to smart devices (e.g. mobile phones and smart appliances). However, voice input is strongly constrained by surroundings and may raise privacy leakage in public areas. In this paper, we present SoundLip, an end-to-end interaction system enabling users to interact with smart devices via silent voice input. The key insight is to use inaudible acoustic signals to capture the lip movements of users when they issue commands. Previous works have considered lip reading as a naive classification task and thus can only recognize individual words. In contrast, our proposed system enables lip reading at both word and sentence levels, which are more suitable for daily-life use. We exploit the built-in speakers and microphones of smart devices to emit acoustic signals and listen to their reflections, respectively. In order to better abstract representations from multi-frequency and multi-modality acoustic signals, we elaborate a hierarchical convolutional neural network (HCNN) to serve as the front-end as well as recognize individual word commands. Then, for the sentence-level recognition, we exploit a multi-task encoder-decoder network to get around temporal segmentation and output sentences in an end-to-end way. We evaluate SoundLip on 20 individual words and 70 sentences from 12 participants. Our system achieves an accuracy of 91.2% at word-level and a word error rate of 7.1% at sentence-level in both user-independent and environment-independent settings. Given its innovative solution and promising performance, we believe that SoundLip has made a significant contribution to the advancement of silent voice input technology.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of Jambi Malay language interference on communication in Arabic. This study used a descriptive-analytical approach and combined corpus analysis methods, interviews, and observations to collect relevant data. The participants of the study were Jambi Malay speakers, in this case, the students of Pondok Pesantren Modern Darussalam Gontor 10 Muara Sabak Jambi, who used Arabic in daily communication. The results showed that interference of Jambi Malay affected Arabic communication in several aspects. Regarding phonology, differences are found in pronouncing certain Arabic sounds, which can lead to inaccuracies and misunderstandings in using Arabic. In terms of vocabulary, this interference results in the use of loan words or meaning adaptation of Arabic words in Jambi Malay, causing changes in the meaning and misuse of words in Arabic communication. Jambi Malay sentence patterns, such as the placement of subjects at the end of sentences, affect how sentences are arranged in Arabic and cause discrepancies with correct Arabic grammar. Interference is also seen in using different conjunctions and connecting words between Jambi Malay and Arabic. This study provides an in-depth understanding of the impact of Jambi Malay interference on Arabic communication.

Code-switching is one of the linguistics phenomena in daily activities. The study aims at focusing on the novices of pre-service teachers’ who use code-switching in the EFL classroom. It also explains why novices use code-switch in the learning process. The study used a qualitative approach. The data was recorded and transcribed to analyze why and how code-switching was used by nine novices in the classroom of MA NU Batang. The analysis of the classroom revealed that nine novices used code-switched in categorizing the forms of the utterances. The result shows that: (1) There are two ways in which the novices use code-switching in teaching and learning process, including form (word, phrase, and sentence) and function and condition were 132 or 55% utterances of code-switching (2) The novices use code-switching from L2 to L1 including form (word, phrase, and sentence) in learning activities. (4) The reason that the novices use code-switching in the classroom is to help the students when they explain in difficult words, phrases, or sentences the lesson. (5) The use of code-switching makes their students easier to understand what they are learning. Therefore, code-switching has a good effect in EFL classrooms to facilitate teaching and learning.

User-generated content explodes in popularity daily on e-commerce platforms. It is crucial for platform manipulators to sort out online reviews with repeatedly expressed opinions and a large number of irrelevant topics in order to reduce the information processing burden on review readers. This study proposes a framework named TipScreener that generates a set of useful sentences that cover all of the information of features of a business. Called tips in this work, the sentences are selected from the reviews in their original, unaltered form. Firstly, we identify information tokens of the business. Second, we filter review sentences that contain no tokens and remove duplicates. We then use a convolutional neural network to filter uninformative sentences. Next, we find the tip set with the smallest cardinality that contains all off the tokens, taking opinion words into account. The sentences of the tip set contain a full range of information and have a very low repetition rate. Our work contributes to the work of online review organizing. Review operators of e-commerce platforms can adopt tips generated by TipScreener to facilitate decision makings of review readers. The convolutional neural network that classifies sentences into two classes also enriches deep learning studies on text classification.

As it stands, Frege’s semantic theory does not provide sufficient general keys for interpreting assertible sentences at different levels of complexity, such as (a) counterfactual-modal-intensional sentences and (b) extensional sentences. It is possible to devise that general key by adding non-classical parameters such as possible worlds, which allow sentences with a high degree of non-extensional complexity to occupy a trivial place in Tarski’s hierarchy as T-scheme-eligible substitutes. The paper argues that finding these non-false (if true) conditions under which complex propositions can be trivially treated as eligible T-scheme substitutes is not trivial. It is a challenge that requires several consistency improvements to deal with various competing extensions of the predicate “true”. We will conclude that Frege-Tarski’s semantic conception (enriched by non- classical presuppositions), misrepresents that challenge. It distorts the problem we face in daily practice to strengthen our assertion systems, plan successful assertion strategies, and protect our assertions from semantic value reversals. The true challenge for us is pragmatic and cannot confuse (1) complicated scientific and empirical conditions of assertiveness with (2) the rewardable scoring-conditions under which one learns to use sentences in his native language.

Background: Current measures used to determine sentence recognition abilities in cochlear implant recipients often include tests with one talker and one rate of speech. Performance with these measures may not accurately represent the speech recognition abilities of the listeners. Evaluation of cochlear implant performance should include measures that reflect realistic listening conditions. For example, the use of multiple talkers who vary in gender, rate of speech, and regional dialects represent varied communication interactions that people encounter daily. The TIMIT sentences, which use multiple talkers and incorporate these variations, provide additional test material for evaluating speech recognition. Dorman and colleagues created 34 lists of TIMIT sentences that were normalized for equal intelligibility using simulations of cochlear implant processing with normal-hearing listeners. Adults with sensorineural hearing loss who listen with cochlear implants represent a different population. Further study is needed to determine if these lists are equivalent for adult cochlear implant recipients and, if not, to identify a subset of lists that may be used with this population. Purpose: To evaluate the speech recognition equivalence of 34 TIMIT sentence lists with adult cochlear implant recipients. Research Design: A prospective study comparing test-retest results within the same group of listeners. Study Sample: Twenty-two adult cochlear implant recipients who met the inclusion criteria of at least 3 mo device use and a monosyllabic word score of 30% or greater participated in the study. Data Collection and Analysis: Participants were administered 34 TIMIT sentence lists (20 sentences per list) at each of two test sessions several months apart. List order was randomized and results scored as percent of words correct. Test-retest correlations and 95% confidence intervals for the means were used to identify equivalent lists with high test-retest reliability. Results: Mean list scores across participants ranged from 66 to 81% with an overall mean of 73%. Twenty-nine lists had high test-retest reliability. Using the overall mean as a benchmark, the 95% confidence intervals indicated that 25 of the remaining 29 lists were equivalent (e.g., the benchmark of 73% fell within the 95% confidence interval for both test and retest). Conclusions: Twenty-five of the TIMIT lists evaluated are equivalent when used with adult cochlear implant recipients who have open-set word recognition abilities. These lists may prove valuable for monitoring progress, comparing listening conditions or treatments, and developing aural rehabilitation plans for cochlear implant recipients.

The prevalence that people share their opinions on the products and services in their daily lives on the Internet has generated a large quantity of comment data, which contain great business value. As for comment sentences, they often contain several comment aspects and the sentiment on these aspects are different, which makes it meaningless to give an overall sentiment polarity of the sentence. In this paper, we introduce Attention-based Aspect-level Recurrent Convolutional Neural Network (AARCNN) to analyze the remarks at aspect-level. The model integrates attention mechanism and target information analysis, which enables the model to concentrate on the important parts of the sentence and to make full use of the target information. The model uses bidirectional LSTM (Bi-LSTM) to build the memory of the sentence, and then CNN is applied to extracting attention from memory to get the attentive sentence representation. The model uses aspect embedding to analyze the target information of the representation and finally the model outputs the sentiment polarity through a softmax layer. The model was tested on multi-language datasets, and demonstrated that it has better performance than conventional deep learning methods.

To achieve this kind of recommendation service, we use an algorithm which is capable to recommend word by word pattern queries. Word pattern queries, can be expressed as a combination of words, part-of-speech (POS) tags and wild card words. Since there are a lot of possible patterns and sentences, we use Big Data frameworks to handle this large amount of data. In this paper, we compared two popular framework Hadoop and Spark with the proposed algorithm and recommend some enhancement to gain faster word pattern generation.

Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the strategies used by visually impaired and blind people in Iran to cope with difficulty performing daily living activities. Materials & Methods: This research is a qualitative study using a content analysis method. The participants were 18 visually impaired and blind people who were purposefully selected from those referred to the Visual Aid Research Center of Iran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran City, Iran. A semi-structured interview was first used using general questions about some daily living activities to discover the participants’ experiences. Attempts were made to allow participants to express their experiences independently without the help of the interviewer. The interviews were recorded as an audio file. After the interview, the audio files were transcribed and analyzed using thematic content analysis. The key sentences were extracted from the main texts, and the strategies or concepts extracted from those sentences were identified. Common strategies were put under one category. After the data saturation, when no new concept was found in the sentences, the interviews ended. By examining similar strategies in a category, subcategories were defined, and finally, similar subcategories were placed in a more general category, and the main themes or strategies were identified. Results: The Mean±SD age of the participants was 39.5±11 years, ranging from 22 to 66 years. Of 18 participants, 7 were blind, 7 had severe visual impairment, and 4 had moderate visual impairment. Their duration of blindness or visual impairment was more than five years. In terms of education, 7 had no high school diploma, and 11 had a high school diploma or higher degree. Vision loss was congenital in some subjects and acquired in others. We extracted 8 main themes or strategies used by the subjects to cope with difficulty performing daily living activities. These themes are trust in others, use of alternative senses, efficient vision care, use of technology, optimization of the living environment, avoiding a specific activity, increasing emotional intelligence, and use of intelligence and memory. Conclusion: The strategies used by the visually impaired and blind people in Iran are entirely personal and innovative and play an influential role in increasing their quality of life. According to their own statements, these strategies can solve their many problems in performing daily living activities.

This study aims to describe the forms of retention of the Javanese language in the Tegal dialect in the cerkak of Tegalan Warung Poci by Dr. Maufur. This research produces forms of retention of Javanese Tegal dialect, namely forms of active language retention and forms of passive language retention by recording it on a data card. Forms of active language retention in the form of the use of words with Tegal dialect that are rarely used in daily life include: basic word forms, forms of affixed words, forms of reduplication, forms of reduplication with implications, and forms of clay saroja. The passive language retention form shows the use of foreign language elements in fragments of Tegal dialect which includes the use of basic words, affixed words, phrases, reduplication, affixed reduplication, and translation of foreign language words (Indonesian and English) into the Tegal dialect that refers to language error or interference. This paper explores passive structures in the Urdu language. It aims to understand their syntactic configuration and how to convert active sentences into passive ones. Limited research exists on Urdu's passivization compared to English. The research questions focus on the structure of passive sentences in Urdu and the necessary modifications for passivization. A qualitative research methodology is used, analyzing written texts and daily conversations of native Urdu speakers. The literature review compares Urdu's passive structures with English, including the standard "be" passive and less common "get passive" and "have passive." Findings show that Urdu passives use the auxiliary “Gaya” and the agent can be explicitly mentioned using "from-PP" rather than "by-PP." The paper also covers passivization in imperative sentences, using “ja:” and “cha:hi:e” morphemes. Moreover, voice neutrality is examined, showing that passive and active sentences in Urdu often convey the same event with similar agent-patient relationships. The study’s conclusive remarks on passive construction in Urdu have the potential to ignite future research in this domain. The paper contributes to the knowledge of passive constructions in Urdu which can significantly impact translation accuracy and interpretation between Urdu and English. This research also adds to the big picture of how languages work.

Background. Linguistic processing was explored in normally intelligent adults with either autism or Asperger's syndrome, to test if global coherence was impaired. Global coherence is the ability to establish causal connections and interrelate local chunks into higher-order chunks so that most linguistic elements are linked together thematically. Since individuals with autism are hypothesized to have weak central coherence then one would predict that the clinical groups would have difficulty integrating information globally so as to derive full meaning.Methods. Two experiments were designed to test global coherence. Experiment 1 investigated whether individuals on the autism spectrum condition could arrange sentences coherently. Experiment 2 investigated whether they were less able to use context to make a global inference. Results. The clinical groups were less able to arrange sentences coherently and use context to make a global inference.Conclusions. The results suggest that individuals on the autism spectrum have impaired global coherence. Arranging sentences and making global inferences correlated highly, suggesting that central coherence may be a unitary force in these different tasks. Of the two clinical groups, the autism group had the greater deficit. The effect that such a deficit would have on one's daily life is discussed, along with possible explanations for the clinical groups' greater difficulty, and suggestions for future research.

In Japanese, there are verbs of iku which have a literal meaning 'away,' and verbs of kuru which have a literal meaning 'come.' However, in Japanese, the two verbs can have another meaning if viewed from the tense and aspects of a sentence. For Japanese learners, to distinguish between the use of Japanese language and aspects and knowing the meaning of sentences which are characterized by aspects is a complex matter. This study aims to analyze the types of aspects and tense of the iku and kuru verbs. This study uses written tapping techniques with data sources came from Japanese news media, The Daily Jakarta Shinbun, which was published on February 19, 2020. The conclusion of this research is that the type of aspects found in the verbs of -te iku and -te kuru are imperfective aspects and perfective. Furthermore, the type of tense contained in the verbs -te iku and -te kuru is to state the present, future, and past conditions.

Method The tool is developed based on clinical observations, patient experiences, expert involvement, and existing validated hearing rehabilitation questionnaires. Results An online tool for collecting data related to hearing aid use was developed. The tool is based on 453 prefabricated sentences representing experiences within 13 categories related to hearing aid use. Conclusions The tool has the potential to reflect a wide range of individual experiences with hearing aid use, including auditory and nonauditory aspects. These experiences may hold important knowledge for both the patient and the professional in the hearing rehabilitation process.

Abstract:
This research discusses the language acquisition of 2-year-old children in terms of phonology and syntax. The purpose of this study is to describe the language acquisition in terms of phonology and syntax of 2-year-old children in Kimono Mom YouTube channel episode 1 to 4. The data source of this research is "Kimono Mom" YouTube channel, episode 1 to episode 4 and the data in the study are utterances expressed by a Japanese child named Sutan who lives with his father and mother in Tokyo, Japan. In his daily life Sutan often communicates with his parents, especially with his mother named Moe. This research is descriptive qualitative research with the method of note taking method and library research. The theory used is the theory of language acquisition in terms of phonology and syntax. The results show that in terms of phonology Sutan can pronounce all vowel sounds except the vowel sound [ɯ]. Sutan can pronounce all consonant sounds perfectly except consonant sounds [ŋ], [ʦ] and [ʣ], as well as consonant sound [ʤ] located at the beginning of the word. In addition, Sutan can pronounce all the special phoneme sounds of Japanese except the double vowel sound (chou boin). In terms of syntax, Sutan can pronounce declarative, imperative, interrogative, and exclamative sentences according to the context even though they are in the form of short sentences and still rarely use particles and the sentence only reaches the verb.

With the development of China's national economy, the middle class has expanded and consumer power has increased. Especially in recent years, China's demand for international luxury brands is also on the rise. The next ad text can be seen everywhere in your daily life and is also one of the longest text types handled by professional translators in real work. This study uses luxury brand ad copy as a corpus based on the functional equivalence theory of translation and adopts a case analysis method, and this can be found by analyzing target consumer groups, brand positioning and stories. of the brand of each luxury brand. The original text emphasizes the attractiveness and appeal of the brand, highlights the consumer's purpose and suggests an adaptive translation strategy. Through the practice of translation, the translator discovered that the author of the original ad copy used positive vocabulary-level adjectives to highlight the merits of the product and attract customers. In the case of sentence patterns, based on the purpose of each module to convey information, relatively high-pitched long sentences are skillfully used to reflect the elegant style and cultural height of the product to increase distance from the audience or use short sentences. Bring the audience closer to the audience with a warm and caring tone. More and more consumers show the interest to luxury brands. The authors argue that when dealing with translations, one should try to reflect the characteristics of each module and convey that effect.

In the study we describe in our thesis, we analyze « verb (+preposition) + noun » or « noun + verb » French combinations, known as support verb patterns (also known as light verb patterns in English). The grammar we describe is intended to comply not only with tree adjoining grammar formalism, but also with a more abstract language called metagrammar. In order to build an accurate and realistic syntactic lexicon, we use a corpus from the French daily Le Monde (developed at Paris 7 University), so as to represent only the most productive predicative nouns. The corpus allows us as well to check the regularities of support verb patterns in contemporary French. Applying our low-level grammar to a series of test sentences enables us to make sure that sentences whose descriptions used to be impossible or unsatisfactory may be adequately parsed.

This study simulates the making of comic strips using Canva in teaching writing skills. This research utilizes descriptive qualitative. The analysis shows that creating comic strips using Canva is easy and simple. Open Canva at www.canva.com/ on mobile/ desktop then sign in or register using email, Facebook, or Google. Search for "comics" to start designs. Browse templates, start with a blank page, or choose Canva's ready-made templates. Experiment with features comic designs then customize comics with color schemes, lawyers, font styles, and combinations of stickers, icons, and illustrations. Rearrange speech bubbles and frames, upload images, save/publish and share. Teachers can use Canva to create/design comic strips for writing English sentences/conversations. We can use the available comic strip template patterns or customize them as needed. For example, we create/design a comic strip about "My Daily Activity", we ask students to write sentences/essays of descriptive text according to the picture instructions in the comic strips from the activities of waking up to going to school using the present tense. We can ask students to write sentences/essays about "All About Me". We can ask students to write down what is depicted in the comic strips, for example, personal information including name, birthday, address, family, favorite, hobby, or ambition. Several ways need to be considered in creating comic strips such as the concept/story idea, storyline, and attractive image. For making interesting and educative learning comics, we can include an element of humor, insert material in character conversations, use casual language, and create attractive visuals.

Abstract Many research studies indicated a correlation between classroom behaviour and the language of the instructors and learners. The inter-language that the teachers prefer to use in the class differs from the natural, daily life conversations in linguistic terms. It is characterized by more simplistic, repetitive, carefully selected language, or “classroom register”. The paper discusses a „foreign language classroom register” as a specific linguistic subsystem which is operated both by the rules of linguistic simplification and by constraints imposed by the specific social (school) setting. The standard language used in a classroom communication with a high ratio of short basic and coordinate sentences, more universal constructions, such as base case nominal phrases and active present indicative verb phrases, the limited reduction in morphological complexity as a result of a preference for a simple sentence structure. The research study examines a linguistic complexity of the teacher talk with focus on reductions, modifications, and simplifications. It also studies the personal attitudes of lecturers toward school discourse and the relation between teachers´ personality and a language complexity of their language.

Gliomas are brain tumors infiltrating healthy cortical and subcortical areas that may host cognitive functions, such as language. If these areas are damaged during surgery, the patient might develop word retrieval or articulation problems. For this reason, many glioma patients are operated on awake, while their language functions are tested. For this practice, quite simple tests are used, for example, picture naming. This paper describes the process and timeline of picture naming (noun retrieval) and shows the timeline and localization of the distinguished stages. This is relevant information for presurgical language testing with navigated Magnetic Stimulation (nTMS). This novel technique allows us to identify cortical involved in the language production process and, thus, guides the neurosurgeon in how to approach and remove the tumor. We argue that not only nouns, but also verbs should be tested, since sentences are built around verbs, and sentences are what we use in daily life. This approach’s relevance is illustrated by two case studies of glioma patients.

Daily conversations contain rich emotional information, and identifying this emotional information has become a hot task in the field of natural language processing. The traditional dialogue sentiment analysis method studies one-to-one dialogues and cannot be effectively applied to multi-speaker dialogues. This paper focuses on the relationship between participants in a multi-speaker conversation and analyzes the influence of each speaker on the emotion of the whole conversation. We summarize the challenges of emotion recognition work in multi-speaker dialogue, focusing on the context-topic switching problem caused by multi-speaker dialogue due to its free flow of topics. For this challenge, this paper proposes a graph network that combines syntactic structure and topic information. A syntax module is designed to convert sentences into graphs, using edges to represent dependencies between words, solving the colloquial problem of daily conversations. We use graph convolutional networks to extract the implicit meaning of discourse. In addition, we focus on the impact of topic information on sentiment, so we design a topic module to optimize the topic extraction and classification of sentences by VAE. Then, we use the combination of attention mechanism and syntactic structure to strengthen the model’s ability to analyze sentences. In addition, the topic segmentation technology is adopted to solve the long-term dependencies problem, and a heterogeneous graph is used to model the dialogue. The nodes of the graph combine speaker information and utterance information. Aiming at the interaction relationship between the subject and the object of the dialogue, different edge types are used to represent different interaction relationships, and different weights are assigned to them. The experimental results of our work on multiple public datasets show that the new model outperforms several other alternative methods in sentiment label classification results. In the multi-person dialogue dataset, the classification accuracy is increased by more than 4%, which verifies the effectiveness of constructing heterogeneous dialogue graphs.

Abstract This study examined a stylistic analysis of online political commentaries of Edo 2020 gubernatorial election held on 19th September, 2020. The researcher selected 6 political commentaries from two online newspapers (Independent and Daily Post). The aim of this study was to analyze the collected data based on the objectives of the study that covers syntactic, phonological and graphological features found in the selected political commentaries. The analysis was hinged on Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar as its theoretical framework while the method was qualitative research analysis. Descriptive survey method was however employed to analyze the collected data. Therefore, the findings showed that there were instances of simple and non-simple sentences as well as declarative and imperative sentences. Moreover, phonological devices such as repetition, alliteration, assonance, and consonance were found therein. Also, foregrounded elements such as abbreviations or shortened words; symbols; and the use of small letters instead of capital letters to start sentences are evidential in some of the comments. Also, the commentators dominantly deploy deviational and non-deviational foregrounding to captivate readers’ attentions. On this note, the researchers therefore concluded that all these stylistic features make this study a unique one and thereby differentiating it from other stylistic analyses.

The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive, that of solving problems by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data. The sources of data in this study are words, sentences, and paragraphs. Conclusions derived from the analysis of the development pattern of paragraph and the use of deixis in the opinion articles in Kompas daily newspaper, found that deixis of space is the most widely used in opinion opinion articles and special-generational development patterns as opening and generalized development patterns used more frequently in opinion articles. When acquiring English, we begin with the fundamentals. The fundamental elements are portions of discourse. Noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection are the parts of speech. The frequent use of pronouns in daily life is one of the inspirations for this study. Understanding pronouns allows a person to build basic sentences that may be used to learn vocabulary and enable someone to become fluent in English. The purpose of this study is to determine the proportion of subject pronouns in the Spoof version of "Honey, What's for Supper?" In this research, a qualitative descriptive methodology is employed. This study reveals that the subject pronoun "He" is 12.0% more prevalent than other pronouns in the Spoof text "Honey, What's for Supper?". This finding is hoped to be a good reference for students and motivate them to improve their reading and writing skills in English.

Background. Organophosphates are chemicals that lead to the accumulation of acetylcholine, causing muscarinic symptoms such as salivation and nicotinic manifestations like muscle weakness and hypertension and rarely leading to basal ganglia impairment, manifesting as extrapyramidal symptoms. Literature reported that the use of amantadine, an amine that has both antiviral and dopaminergic activities, improves extrapyramidal manifestations. Most of the studies exploring the effect of amantadine were conducted on adults and there are extremely limited data in regards to this topic in Saudi Arabia. Thus, the purpose of this case study is to report the outcome of treating a child who developed extrapyramidal symptoms due to organophosphates poisoning with amantadine. Case Description. A 6-year-old boy was found by his family drowsy and drooling with an insecticide bottle beside him. He was brought to the ER and arrested on arrival, and he was eventually revived after 5 minutes of CPR. Then, he developed features of extrapyramidal involvement such as delirium, hyperactivity, akathisia, aphonia, and tremors. He was started on oral amantadine 50 mg once daily and then increased to twice daily for two weeks while admitted. During admission, his symptoms were assessed daily, and an improvement was noticed by his family and the medical team. Upon discharge, he was able to form sentences; tremors were almost resolved; and there was no rigidity or agitation. He was followed up postdischarge and showed significant improvement. He continued amantadine for almost 3 months until the full resolution of his symptoms. Discussion and Conclusion. This case illustrates the promising benefits of using amantadine in treating extrapyramidal manifestations following organophosphate ingestion.

In English, past tense is one of main tenses which is used in daily life. However, mastering it is not a simple matter. This study aims to find out students past tense mastery competence of the second-semester students of Management Business Hospitality of Triatma Mulya University before they get English Intermediate Course which mainly discuss past activities. Their past tense competence can be assessed by identifying the present and the number of errors which made by the students. The data was gathered by asking them to write down five sentences of their past activities. The subject was a class of second semester students of Management Business Hospitality in total of 21 students. The analysis was conducted by applying Ellis’ error categories of omission, misordering, and misinformation on each sentence of the students. Each sentence made by the students was analyzed to find out the present of each error category. The finding showed that the students had an insufficient competence in using past tense, in which, the major error was in form of misinformation error where the students tended to use present form instead of past form in retelling their past activities. The aim of this article was to know the variation of directive speech acts especially in giving order in Javanese and to know what factors that influence the use of a certain directive form in Javanese. Data were taken from daily conversations of a family in Central Java by using recording and note taking method. The analysis was done by using identity and distributional method. The result of the analysis indicated that in Javanese, directive speech acts were conducted both directly and indirectly. The use of those forms was influenced by age of the speaker, social status of the speaker, and situation. The design of this research is a qualitative descriptive study with content analysis to find out about the context, purposes, and content messages of utterances in the communication. Analyzing and making inferences about the utterances producers as the addressors and the audience as the addressee of the text. It has found problems in society during Victorian era, especially to harsh conditions of orphans and children during the Industrial revolution which is the main focus. 1) Realism projected in realistic characters and setting, comprehensive detail about everyday occurrences, plausible plot, dialects of community, character development, and the importance in depicting social class. These elements are the background for choosing words, choosing language in all utterances between speakers, each character. Representing the use of language in the Victorian Era. 2). Many register languages are used, there are types of Register variation expressions used, the choice of lexical in a conversation sentence that refers to the context of the situation, the context of addressee and addressors, also the typical language variation used in the Victorian era. In the context of the situation, the register also influenced of choosing the right sequence of sentences intended by the interlocutor, in a particular situation. 3). Abstract:
We propose DeepChannel, a robust, data-efficient, and interpretable neural model for extractive document summarization. Given any document-summary pair, we estimate a salience score, which is modeled using an attention-based deep neural network, to represent the salience degree of the summary for yielding the document. We devise a contrastive training strategy to learn the salience estimation network, and then use the learned salience score as a guide and iteratively extract the most salient sentences from the document as our generated summary. In experiments, our model not only achieves state-of-the-art ROUGE scores on CNN/Daily Mail dataset, but also shows strong robustness in the out-of-domain test on DUC2007 test set. Moreover, our model reaches a ROUGE-1 F-1 score of 39.41 on CNN/Daily Mail test set with merely 1/100 training set, demonstrating a tremendous data efficiency.
