Abstract:
The article discusses the possibility of a naturalistic explanation of phenomenal experience (qualia). It starts with the analysis of one of the thought experiments described by D. Chalmers in his book “The Conscious Mind. In search of a fundamental theory”, namely, a zombie experiment. The article shows that the conclusions of this experiment can be recognized as correct only provided that the experimenter imagines a complete functional analogue of a human being. However, this condition is not feasible, since the experimenter is required to possess the totality of knowledge about the imaginary creature. Experimenter’s imagination is in one way or another determined by the available conceptual schemes. It is concluded that the thesis of the irreducibility of qualia, based on the data of thought experiments, is a presupposition of conscious mind studies, and not their conclusion. From my point of view, this presupposition can be challenged just as N.I. Lobachevsky challenged the intuitive plausibility of Euclid’s fifth axiom. As an alternative understanding of the nature of qualia I propose J. McDowell's approach, which is called “perceptual conceptualism”.

The thesis that the causae adquirendi in D. 41,2,3,21 lead first of all to a ‘rechtmäßiger Eigenbesitz’ (justified possession) and not to ownership or acquisitive possession, as formulated by Pool, does appear not to hold upon examination of this text. The key text D. 41,4,2,1 on which his thesis that the title pro emptore implies such possession relies, does not imply more than factual possession. The causae of D. 41,2,3,21 refer, as the causa in D. 41,4,2,1 and other places, to the causa antecedens, the reason for the taking of possession.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The result of this study is contributed to improving the academic thinking of art practice students, especially in the writing of the undergraduate thesis. The problem is about a system of academic thinking as reflected in the thesis guidebook. Students' academic thinking in thesis writing is guided by a manual book published by a local institution. The case in this study is the thesis guidebook of art practice in an art study program. In this book has no explicit explanation on method and analysis aspects. Whereas both of these aspects are precisely the essence of academic thinking, that is research-based thinking. This fact encourages a study of thesis writing model of art practice, particularly on methods and analysis aspects. This study implements a Research and Development (R&D) approach and mixed methods. The model will propose Teikmanis' typology of art-related research, such as practice-led research, research-led practice, and artistic research. It also adapted Barrett's structure of art education, which consisted of conceptual, operational and synthesis aspects. The conclusion of the study showed that the participants were able to arrange a thesis based on this model.

AbstractIn [12]. T. Scanlon proved a quantifier elimination result for valued D-fields in a three-sorted language by using angular component functions. Here we prove an analogous theorem in a different language which was introduced by F. Delon in her thesis. This language allows us to lift the quantifier elimination result to a one-sorted language by a process described in the Appendix. As a byproduct, we state and prove a “positivstellensatz” theorem for the differential analogue of the theory of real-series closed fields in the valued D-field setting.

Abstract:
As an integral part of dissertations and theses, research scholars in different disciplines require to write a comprehensive chapter on "literature review" that establishes the conceptual and theoretical foundations of an empirical research study. This, however, poses an intellectual challenge to produce a critical review of the published research on a given topic. Therefore, this paper addresses the students problems of writing the literature review in a thesis or dissertation at the graduate and postgraduate levels. It explains the process and steps of reviewing literature for a thesis chapter. These steps include; a) critical reading and note-taking, b) writing a summary of the reviewed literature, c) organization of literature review, and d) the use of a synthesis matrix. The last part of the paper offers suggestions on how to write critically and make the researcher's voice explicit in the chapter.

Abstract:
The objectives of this research are: 1) To find out the undergraduate students’ Difficulties In Writing Thesis at The English Study Program of Muhammadiyah University Bengkulu (UMB) in Academic Year 2018-2019, and 2) To find out the most difficult variable they faced in writing theses. The design of this research is descriptive quantitative research. 74 students of the Seventh Semester Students of English Education Study Program of Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu in the Academic Year of 2018-2019 took part in this study. The instruments were questionnaires and interview. The data were collected by assigning the students to fill out the questionnaires and being interviewed afterward. The data were analyzed by checking the students’ answer in the questionnaire, classifying the students’ answers, calculating the students’ scores of difficulties in writing a thesis, describing the data and concluding the results. The results showed the students' difficulties in writing a thesis; a) Orderly, the students' difficulties in writing a thesis are: related to difficulties of students' English proficiencies; related to difficulties of students' time management; related to difficulties of students' research methodology; related to difficulties of students' attitude; related to difficulties of students' research topic; and the least related to difficulties of a co-advisor relationship, students' plagiarism, students' personalities, the big number of supervised students and advisor workload; and difficulties of students motivation. b) The most difficulties in writing thesis are related to their English proficiency which are still low and limited. Both have become the first cause that they cannot develop their writing thesis well. The implication of this study ; 1) the students should minimize their difficulties and find the solution in the way of a) Improve their English, or at least have adequate English before writing a thesis. b) Should manage their time wisely in doing their thesis. c) Read more relevant sources that can support their research. d) Give more attention to avoid plagiarism. 2) Further researchers are suggested to do similar research and add more data with adding research instruments, such as interview guides.

ABSTRACTIn their recent book, Epistemology and the Psychology of Human Judgment, M. Bishop and J. D. Trout have challenged Standard Analytic Epistemology (SAE) in all its guises and have endorsed a version of the “replacement thesis”—proponents of which aim at replacing the standard questions of SAE with psychological questions. In this article I argue that Bishop and Trout offer an incomplete epistemology that, as formulated, cannot address many of the core issues that motivate interest in epistemological questions to begin with, and so is not a fit replacement.

Abstract:
AbstractTwo literal quotations from Chrysippus’ On Possibles, preserved in Plutarch’s On the Contradictions of the Stoics, seem to contradict the Stoic thesis of the isotropy of the void. According to this thesis the void is an infinite undifferentiated expanse (a wide continuous area) whose center is marked by, and coincides with, the position of the world. Since there is nothing else outside the world, the cohesive force that pervades it is sufficient on its own to guarantee the quasi–indestructibility of the trans–cyclical διακόσμησις (i.e the fact that in the new cosmic cycle the διακόσμησις returns in a form identical to the one it had in the previous cosmic cycle) and the eternity of the οὐσία. Conversely, in these two quotations Chrysippus maintains that there is a central διαφορά equipped with causal force. This seems to imply the anisotropy of the void. Chrysippus’s view here is also at odds with another official Stoic thesis, i.e. that the incorporeal is causally inert. In this paper it will be argued that there is in fact no contradiction, because, in those two quotations, Chrysippus consciously develops a cosmological hypothesis in order to resolve a difficulty concerning the role of fire during the universal conflagration. Chrysippus’ solution to this difficulty belongs to modal logic and consists in distinguishing between the actual universe and the possible ones.

Abstract:
Students generally experience obstacles in writing thesis research proposals. The research findings indicate that the problems in writing a thesis proposal by students include; find research ideas, look for literature and empirical data in the field as well as technical constraints related to aspects of writing relating to structure (systematics) and rules for using scientific and standard Indonesian languages. The specific problem of writing proposal research types, among others, relates to the development of a framework that describes the paradigm of relationships between variables, determining the design of experimental designs, how to determine samples and analyze data using formulas and statistics. Constraints on PTK proposal writing, among others, relate to the determination of research design in the form of the PTK cycle including the activities carried out in each cycle, determining indicators of success, data collection and data analysis. While writing a proposal for the type of R & D research students face constraints related to determining product specifications that are attractive and truly needed by teachers and students, relevant literature, writing framework, selection of development models, and product trial designs. The study of this study describes the obstacles faced by students in writing research proposals for history education thesis. The aim is to identify common obstacles experienced by students in writing thesis proposals, including specific obstacles to writing experimental research proposals, CAR and R&D. Data on the constraints of thesis proposal writing are collected by interviewing students, examining their thesis proposals and examining students' written reports about the perceived constraints when writing a thesis proposal. The source of research data comes from students, thesis documents and experience reports writing thesis proposals. This data was analyzed descriptively qualitatively.

Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to apply a meta-analysis to determine whether there is a difference in marital satisfaction according to gender. For this purpose, 64 thesis about the subject of marriage satisfaction was reached from the databases of National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education. Theses included 27 theses with gender variables and data that correspond to the coding protocol. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 6,755 people including 3418 female (50,6%) and 3337 male (49,4%). The effect size of marriage satisfaction by sex was determined by using the Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) analysis method known as Cohen’s d in the literature. As a result of Egger's Regression Test, Orwin's Fail-Safe N, Duval and Tweedie's Trim and Fill method and funnel graph, it was determined that there was no publication bias in the research. In the study, a negligible effect size in favour of male was found both the fixed effects model and random effects models (Fixed: d = -0.12 Random: d = -0.08) and the study was heterogeneous (Q = 94.83, p = 0.00, I2 = 72, 58). The findings of the research were discussed in the context of the relevant field and some suggestions were presented.Extended English abstract is in the end of PDF (TURKISH) file.ÖzetBu araştırmanın amacı, evlilik doyumunda cinsiyete göre fark olup olmadığını belirlemek için bir meta-analiz uygulamaktır. In In I Sent., d. 2, q. 1, aa. 1-3 Thomas Aquinas deals with divine simplicity and the predication of the divine attributes. There, he seems to take some distance from Avicenna, specifically when Avicenna avers that God lacks a quiddity. However, in the Summa theologiae Aquinas assumes, as he previously does both in In I Sent., d. 8, q. 1, a. 1 and in De ente et essentia, that there is an identity between the essentia/quiddity and the esse in God, while this statement would also be held by Avicenna. I will show how back to the Commentary on the Sentences Aquinas has detected the existing tension between the two thesis held by Avicenna, and I will also analyze the way in which he addresses both these theses.

AbstractIn de la Fuente (2007; Ph. D. Thesis), the molecular clump associated with the ultracompact HII region G12.21–0.10 was confirmed as a large, hot, dense Hot Molecular Core nearby to the ionized gas. The density was confirmed by comparing low resolution NH3(2, 2) and (4, 4) VLA observations, with other molecular lines and radio–continuum observations. These results will be presented in detail in a forthcoming paper (de la Fuente et al. in preparation). In these works, for the first time, the spatial location of the Hot Molecular Core is presented. Here we present the NH3(4,4) observations from de la Fuente (2007; Ph. D. Abstract:
Summary In the article the author has attempted to realise the following goals: 1) identifying and critical assessment of the share of expenditure on research and development (R&D) in the gross domestic product (GDP) borne by business entities concentrated in four sectors (enterprises, government, higher education and private non-profit institutions) and jointly in all sectors. This meter is treated as an indirect measure of the level of managerial activity in shaping the research and development policy, 2) checking the thesis that R&D expenditure are changeable and differ in the particular Member States and does not give a clear positive picture of the systematic and dynamic growth of research and development activity in these countries. The article was developed using the following research methods: critical-cognitive analysis of the literature; statistical and comparative analysis of the “Eurostat” empirical material; the projection. The statistical and comparative analysis of the secondary empirical material “Eurostat” illustrating the share of expenditure on research and development in the gross domestic product was used to check the thesis. The results of the analysis confirm the rightness of the research thesis.

Abstract:
We record with sadness the death of Franz Kahn, a former Associate Editor of the Journal of Plasma Physics.Franz was born in Germany in 1926, but his family emigrated to England in 1938. He attended Oxford University, obtaining First Class Honours in Mathematics in 1947, and continuing as a research student there, eventually gaining his D.Phil. in 1950. His thesis work already involved him in plasma physics, under one of the pioneers of the subject. His supervisor was Sydney Chapman, and his topic was that of the production of plasma by solar flares, and its interaction with the Earth's atmosphere. This field had already been opened by Chapman and a previous pupil, Vincent Ferraro, in the 1930s. The idea had originally been phrased in terms of ‘corpuscles’, i.e. energetic ions and electrons, but it had gradually been realized that electrostatic forces give such a medium a coherence, so that it should be described as a fluid, notwithstanding the lack of collisions. This is of course the basic idea of plasma physics, and when the importance of magnetic fields was included, one had all the ingredients of magnetohydrodynamics.

Multisensor information fusion is wildly treasured and used in the mobile robot field. This thesis describes D–S evidence theory about photoelectric encoder, laser sensors and CCD camera.Because D-S evidence theory allows the existence of uncertainty, we may obtain the event probability according to experience. As a result,it is easier to promote the application. Therefore robot can do autonomous navigation and obstacle aviodance in unknown non-structure environment safely. If the system increased other sensors in the future perfect process,we can also adopt this approach to integration. The experiment results show that the improved D–S evidence theory can eliminate the noise interference, handle signals smoothly and improve the system control precision.

Abstract:
Vitamins are an essential part to wellbeing. This was not something always known however, as the Germ theory was the accepted thesis of the 18th century. It was found that certain accessory factors helped mitigate and even cure these diseases such as beriberi, scurvy, and rickets. Accessory factors, later coined vitamins by Casimir Funk, are an essential constituent of the human diet. Vitamin D is technically not a vitamin but functions as a steroid hormone whose most well-known purpose is calcification of the human skeleton. This helps prevent osteomalacia in adults and rickets, a serious problem in children due to their developmental stages. But besides its well-known role, vitamin D also has other important non-calcification purposes, including being a possible anticancer agent. Calcitriol (1,25 dihydroxycholecalciferol, vitamin D3) has found to treat certain cancers in various ways: from the VDR-RXR complex to analogs being able to decrease tumor growth, lowering expression of stem cell marker genes, and inhibition of the Wnt pathway. Although there is promise in its effectiveness based on studies of squamous cell carcinoma, prostate, breast, colon, and ovarian cancer; hypercalcemia, lack of consistent data, and insufficient clinical trials are serious issues that constantly get in the way of progression of vitamin D’s legitimacy as a solution.

AbstractIn this thesis, we study Turing degrees in the context of classical recursion theory. What we are interested in is the partially ordered structures $\mathcal {D}_{\alpha }$ for ordinals $\alpha <\omega ^2$ and $\mathcal {D}_{a}$ for notations $a\in \mathcal {O}$ with $|a|_{o}\geq \omega ^2$ .The dissertation is motivated by the $\Sigma _{1}$ -elementary substructure problem: Can one structure in the following structures $\mathcal {R}\subsetneqq \mathcal {D}_{2}\subsetneqq \dots \subsetneqq \mathcal {D}_{\omega }\subsetneqq \mathcal {D}_{\omega +1}\subsetneqq \dots \subsetneqq \mathcal {D(\leq \textbf {0}')}$ be a $\Sigma _{1}$ -elementary substructure of another? For finite levels of the Ershov hierarchy, Cai, Shore, and Slaman [Journal of Mathematical Logic, vol. 12 (2012), p. 1250005] showed that $\mathcal {D}_{n}\npreceq _{1}\mathcal {D}_{m}$ for any $n < m$ . We consider the problem for transfinite levels of the Ershov hierarchy and show that $\mathcal {D}_{\omega }\npreceq _{1}\mathcal {D}_{\omega +1}$ . The techniques in Chapters 2 and 3 are motivated by two remarkable theorems, Sacks Density Theorem and the d.r.e. Nondensity Theorem. In Chapter 1, we first briefly review the background of the research areas involved in this thesis, and then review some basic definitions and classical theorems. We also summarize our results in Chapter 2 to Chapter 4. In Chapter 2, we show that for any $\omega $ -r.e. set D and r.e. set B with $D<_{T}B$ , there is an $\omega +1$ -r.e. set A such that $D<_{T}A<_{T}B$ . In Chapter 3, we show that for some notation a with $|a|_{o}=\omega ^{2}$ , there is an incomplete $\omega +1$ -r.e. set A such that there are no a-r.e. sets U with $A<_{T}U<_{T}K$ . In Chapter 4, we generalize above results to higher levels (up to $\varepsilon _{0}$ ). We investigate Lachlan sets and minimal degrees on transfinite levels and show that for any notation a, there exists a $\Delta ^{0}_{2}$ -set A such that A is of minimal degree and $A\not \equiv _T U$ for all a-r.e. sets U.Abstract prepared by Cheng Peng.E-mail: pengcheng@nankai.edu.cn

Abstract:
Inspired by “Should Trees Have Standing? Toward Legal Rights for Natural Objects” (Christopher D. Stone, 1974) that popularized the doctrin: “environment as a legal subject”. This thesis was directly elaborating the relation between the constitutional aspect of the “state of law” and its admission of environmental rights, not just about the dimention of the philosophy of law but beyond of it: this thesis was discuss about the theoretical dimention of law and its relevance in Indonesia. At least there are two monumental cases in the world which were become the landmark case of environmental disputes resolution based of by the doctrin of ecocracy. In the dissenting opinion of the judge William O. Douglas in Sierra Club vs Morton’s case, United Stated of America (1972) and in the appeal decision of the Wheeler vs the Government of the provincial of Roja’s case, Ecuador (2011). Those cases had opened a new perspective in the legal proceeding that the environment had be approved as a legal person. In other words, the environment had recognized as a legal subject. Then, by using the conseptual approach and comparative of law approach, this thesis had elaborated the relevance of this doctrin: “The Environment as a Legal Subject” in Indonesian context then verified it with the related legal theories. Besides it all, in this thesis also discuss the relation between of the environmental legal protection and the state of law concept in the ecocracy and constitualism perspective framework. Hopefully this thesis would be the steping stone to realize the constitutionalisation the environment rights and to realize the legal standing innovation in the environmental disputes resolution.

In the substantiation of the thesis, a set of arguments resulting from literary analysis and available findings, including thematic reports, has been quoted. The rank of the phenomenon and the scale of the problem, proving a “plague of mathematical illiteracy”, has been signalized. Following D. Firsh’s advice, an attempt to answer the question “What is mathematics? What is it about?” has been taken. Thus, mathematics has been presented as science and as an academic subject. The peculiarity of mathematical education has been noted. It has been reminded that the title theme should occupy a deserved place in academic research, especially of applied nature

Abstract:
Abstract Modern processors are highly optimized systems where every single cycle of computation time matters. Many optimizations depend on the data that is being processed. Microarchitectural attacks leak this data (side channels) or exploit physical imperfections to take control of the entire system (fault attacks). In my thesis (D. Gruss. Software-based Microarchitectural Attacks. PhD thesis, Graz University of Technology, 2017), I improved over state of the art in microarchitectural attacks and defenses in three dimensions. I cover these briefly in this summary. First, I show that attacks can be fully automated. Second, I present several novel previously unknown side channels. Third, I show that attacks can be mounted in highly restricted environments such as sandboxed JavaScript code in websites, and on any computer system including smartphones, tablets, personal computers, and commercial cloud systems. These results formed one of the corner stones for attacks like Meltdown (M. Lipp et al. Meltdown: Reading kernel memory from user space. In USENIX Security Symposium, 2018) and Spectre (P. Kocher et al. Spectre attacks: Exploiting speculative execution. In S&P, 2019) which were discovered months after the thesis was concluded.

The paper aims to make a satisfactory realistic interpretation of the solution of the truth-making problem within the framework of D. Dennett’s real patterns conception in order to show that D. Dennett’s ontology can be interpreted in a realistic sense not only within the framework of J. Ladyman’s structural realism. As a starting point, the solution of the truth-making problem within the concept of “serious essentialism” by E. J. Lowe is considered. Our thesis is that the expansion of the D. Dennett’s conception with E. J. Lowe’s “serious essentialism” leads us to the conclusion that D. Dennett’s ontology not only receives a satisfactory realistic interpretation of the solution of the truth-making problem, but also provides an opportunity to answer properly to the definition of scientific realism given by M. Low-Carbon Resources include low-consumption energy like renewable resources, new energy, clean power, etc. From the perspective of fiscal policy, to study and develop R&D will affect the progress of technology directly, and to develop Low-Carbon Economy needs the innovation of Low-Carbon technology. Thus, the government’s R&D investment is crucial to developing Low-Carbon technology and Low-Carbon Economy. This thesis combines the endogenous growth theory with the sustainability of Low-Carbon Resources, and uses the R&D endogenous growth model to give one under the constraint of Low-Carbon resources. It comes to a relevant conclusion, that is, assuming that the society requires a sustainable consumption in consuming the rest of exhaustible resource, the labor investment of R&D sectors should meet the basic conditions.

Abstract:
This paper will attempt to defend the thesis that it is impossible to understand the proper role of private philanthropy in a free and democratic society without examining certain fundamental questions about the proper roles of the state and about the rights and obligations of owners of private property. It will defend that thesis by presenting arguments for four subordinate theses: (a) there are historical and philosophical reasons for being skeptical about the role of private philanthropy in a free and democratic state; (b) these reasons can be met by certain familiar responses, but these responses are not fully satisfactory; (c) certain radical libertarian views, and more moderate versions of those views, would provide a basis for an alternative understanding of the role of private philanthropy in a free and democratic state; (d) whether or not one accepts those views, one can also better understand that role if one adopts a view of the state which emphasizes its role in the promotion of the virtues.(1) Historical and Philosophical DoubtsThe skeptical challenge to the claim that there is an important role for private philanthropy in a free and democratic state can be put very simply. It is the challenge that the emergence of strong but democratic states, with the concurrent emergence of a proper understanding of the extensive nature of legitimate state functions, has undercut the need for private philanthropy and its corresponding favorable tax treatment. It is the further claim that these developments, both historical and conceptual, have left private philanthropy with no significant role.

Abstract:
This essay argues for the missiological significance of dreams and visions (D/Vs) as mediators of new, welcoming spaces for engaging the religious other. The discussion suggests a correlation between two important conversations, that of the church envisioning the role of Christianity in the midst of religious plurality, and that of anthropologists and dream researchers who point to D/Vs as valued experiences in religions of the world. In light of the research on the value of dreams and visions in spirituality, how might D/V experiences, narrations, and interpretations provide bridges for interfaith dialogue? Keeping in view the value of D/Vs for spirituality, this paper offers a distinctly Pentecostal perspective with the following thesis: When D/V experiences are assessed for their spiritual value within a pneumatological re-envisioning of missiology and soteriology, the possibility of their significance for fostering welcoming spaces for interfaith dialogue becomes apparent.
