Abstract:
Carl Czerny (1791-1857) was a composer and music educator who made nearly a thousand musical compositions. He was a piano performer, a teacher of the instrument and a theorist. His achievements in the field of education are considered a solid foundation to teach beginners and skilled performers. The study aims to shed some light on the educational point of view of Carl Czerny from a theoretical analytical perspective, in addition to highlighting the principles and methods developed by him that can provide and help both students and teachers to achieve their goals more effectively. The study brings out Czerny’s ideas, theories and methodology of teaching music in general, and learning to play the piano in particular. The researchers studied the most important educational principles developed by Carl Czerny in which he saw a basis for the process of learning to play the Instrument, and they managed to elaborate the methodology he created.

Abstract:
This article reassesses the “mechanical” style of playing featured in Carl Czerny's pedagogical works and keyboard arrangements—specifically, the Complete Theoretical and Practical Piano Forte School, op. 500 (1839), its supplementary text Letters to a Young Lady (ca. 1840), and the four-hand transcription of Beethoven's Symphony no. 9 in D Minor, op. 125 (the “Choral”). The first part of the article situates opus 500 within the larger pedagogical milieu of Biedermeier music culture and Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi's progressivist educational reforms, exploring the way it tasked predominantly women amateurs with assembling basic finger sensations in an exercise-by-exercise—“progressive”—fashion. I propose that this cumulative logic reflects an early-century epistemic norm—what Friedrich Kittler dubs a “mechanical program” of assembly and augmentation. The second part considers Czerny's transcription of the finale of Beethoven's Ninth from the perspective of ludo-musicology and cultural techniques media analysis, outlining the reductive and replicative—“reproductive”—techniques by which Czerny accommodated his former teacher's work to the hands he shaped in the private sphere. I argue that his pedagogies and transcriptions were recursively interrelated. Czerny was simultaneously a mechanic of the hand pedagogically and a mechanical reproducer of symphonies transcriptively, creating a multivalent corpus that forces us to rethink the media-theoretical concept of “mechanical reproduction” vis-à-vis “Discourse Network 1800.”

Abstract:
The substance of the notion of pianism as a category of piano performance is determined. The structure of pianism is built up, its determinants are specified. The «pure» and «interpretive» types of pianism are separated. On the basis of the domination of the ideal of the former the «era of virtuosos» is singled out (1780 — 1840) and its periodization is ascertained. The pianism of C. Czerny, belonging to this era, reflects the dominant ideal of the time, but his relationship with L. Beethoven adjusts C. Czerny’s idea of piano performance, in general and pianism, in particular .

Abstract:
Abstract Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy recently has been investigated for analysis of nuclear waste glass for uranium quantification. The initial obtained accuracy and precision was ~15%. In this paper, we have compared the analytical merit of the univariative and multivariative PLSR regression models for the determination of U in barium borosilicate simulated waste glass containing significant amount of U. The analytical merit of a Czerny-Turner spectrograph with high spectral resolution and Echelle spectrograph with broadband spectrum recording capacity were compared using spectra simultaneously record from the same plasma. For univariative calibration the superiority of Czerny-Turner spectrograph over the Echelle has been demonstrated here. Multivariative chemometric PLSR model was found to drastically improve the results. It was also observed that selection of spectral window for analysis significantly affects the analytical merit of multivariative analysis. Echelle though shows relatively inferior analytical merit, but by applying Analytical spectral dependant PLSR in Echelle spectra, a much higher degree of improvement was observed. Using ASD-PLSR and Czerny-Turner spectrograph generated spectra an accuracy and precision of 2–2.5% was achieved in this study.

Abstract:
The cross-type Czerny-Turner optical structure has been widely used in the portable fiber spectrometers. We investigated the relationship between the spectral resolution and the spatial parameters of the cross Czerny-Turner optical structure. The incident angle of the collimating mirror and that of the imaging mirror are the most important factors which affect the spectral resolution. The distances between optical elements have a little influence on the spectral resolution, which can be mostly compensated by adjusting the position of the CCD sensor. A experimental setup was built and the experimental results show good agreement with the simulation.

Abstract:
This study reports a crossed Czerny–Turner spectrometer with multiple mirrors to extend the inspected spectrum. A design example with two movable mirrors and a stationary planar mirror is experimentally demonstrated to offer two additional spectral bands, thereby leading to thrice the spectral range of the original Czerny–Turner spectrometer. The results indicate that the configurations to measure the three bands have almost identical parameters. The moving direction of the planar mirror and the plane of incidence are orthogonal; thus, the influence of mirror movement on the repeatability of the spectrum is minimized. In addition to the merits of cost-effectiveness and rapid inspection, the reported mechanism of mirror movement is applied to general spectrometers to extend the spectral coverage without sacrificing the resolution.

Abstract:
Modern small-sized spectrometers are designed mainly by Czerny – Turner scheme with a flat diffraction grating, and with the goal of the maximum aperture at the expense of resolution — by the scheme with a concave diffraction grating with a flat field. Spectrum registration in such spectrometers is carried out by linear photodiode array. The aim of the work is to inform professionals about the characteristics of the compact spectrometers developed by the authors. These spectrometers use unpackaged linear photodiode arrays for spectrum registration that eliminate the reflection of radiation from the cover glass of the photodiode array and reduce stray-light. The tightness of the spectrometer housing increases their service life. The modification parameters of the spectrometer designed according to Czerny – Turner scheme are given. The main advantage of the spectrometer is the low stray-light inside the device and the same spectral resolution throughout the spectral range. The working aperture in Czerny – Turner scheme is limited by aberrations to 1/6. The scheme with a flat field allows operation with a larger working aperture. Three modifications of the spectrometer are developed according to this scheme (description of their main parameters is given). The results of experimental comparison of the spectrometers with different optical schemes in the light intensity and spectral resolution are presented, along with the examples of their application. Devices designed according to Czerny – Turner scheme are used in atomic emission, atomic absorption spectral analysis, and in spectrophotometry for registration of absorption spectra of condensed media. Luminescence and Raman spectra of minerals are recorded on a flat-field spectrometer. The developed compact spectrometers have an operating spectral range 190 – 1100 nm with the possibility of registering spectral regions from 70 to 1000 nm, the best resolution being 0.1 nm and the stray-light level less than 0.05% with the minimum recorded optical density of more than 3. Flat field spectrometers have an increased aperture due to the large working aperture 1/2.1.

Abstract:
A new species of Chamaemyiidae from Turkey, Parochthiphila (Euestelia) argentiseta is described. Parochthiphila inconstans (Becker, 1903) is assigned to the subgenus Parochthiphila Czerny, 1904 after examination of the types. New records of 25 species are given from several countries around the Mediterranean and from Oman thus extending our previously scant knowledge of the distribution of these species of flies particularly in the Mediterranean.

Full text
Abstract:
The Oriental species of the clusiid genera Phylloclusia Hendel, 1913, Sobarocephala Czerny, 1903, Tetrameringia McAlpine, 1960, Heteromeringia Czerny, 1903, Tranomeringia Sasakawa, 1966, and Clusia Haliday, 1838, which belong to the subfamily Clusiinae in having inclinate third (lowermost, rarely fourth) fronto-orbital bristles, are revised. It is confirmed that two of these genera, Sobarocephala and Heteromeringia, indeed belong to the Clusiinae (not the Sobarocephalinae and Clusiodinae). Of the 22 species identified, 14 are described as new to science: Phylloclusia bivittata sp. nov. from Laos and Vietnam and P. sternopleuralis sp. nov. from Malaysia; Sobarocephala baculigera sp. nov. and S. fuscifacies sp. nov. from the Philippines; S. eurystylis sp. nov. from Malaysia; S. geniculata sp. nov. and S. megastylis sp. nov. from Thailand; Tetrameringia maculata sp. nov. from Laos; Heteromeringia abatanensis sp. nov. and H. spinifera sp. nov. from the Philippines, H. melanoprotoma sp. nov. from Laos, H. paraphalloides sp. nov. from Vietnam and Malaysia, and H. pectinata sp. nov. from Malaysia, Tranomeringia scutellata sp. nov. from the Philippines. New locality records are given for Phylloclusia steleocera Hendel, 1913, Sobarocephala vockerothi Sasakawa, 1993, Heteromeringia lyneborgi Sasakawa, 1966, H. melaena Sasakawa, 1966, H. mirabilis Sasakawa, 1966, H. nigricans Sasakawa, 1966, and Clusia sexlineata Frey, 1960. Keys to the Oriental species of the genera Phylloclusia, Sobarocephala, and Heteromeringia are provided, and a revised terminology for the components of the male phallus is given.
