Abstract:
The dissolution of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic into two separate states (the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic) is still an example of the peaceful peaceful separation of Czechs and Slovaks for other nations seeking independence. Compared to the former Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, this process in Central Europe took place without a single drop of blood. When writing this article, we will use the content analysis method. The aim of our article is to show what constitutional and legal processes were most important in the dissolution of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic. We will show that the most crucial Czecho-Slovak institution was the Federal Assembly. In our conclusions, based on the Czech-Slovak example, we will also offer possible solutions to other nations striving for their independence. Keywords: Federal assembly, Czech Republic, Slovak republic, constitutional law about dissolution Czech and Slovak Federal Republic

Abstract:
The Communist past is perceived negatively by modern Czechs and since Russia is the successor of the Soviet Union, a negative image can effect the coverage of Russian-Czech relations and the image of modern Russia in the Czech media. The study applied qualitative and quantitative content analysis to study the coverage of Russian-Czech relations by the leading television channels of the Czech Republic Česká televize 1 and Prima. The findings of the analysis of 1,195 video news illustrate that Russia plays a significant role on the international agenda of Česká televize 1 and Prima. The main feature of the coverage is a focus on the political and historical element of the Russian-Czech relations. 49 % of video news about Russian-Czech relations by Česká televize 1 were dedicated to politics, 28 % were about history, 8 % to sports and culture. A recurring theme in analyzed news about Russian-Czech relations is freedom’s theme. Česká televize 1 and Prima primarily focus on coverage of events inside the Czech Republic (at least 60 % of the analyzed news stories). Czech TV channels have a tendency to create heroic images of people criticizing authorities of the Russian Federation (B. Nemtsov, A. Politkovskaya after whom the Czechs named two city facilities in Prague). Another feature is the indirect creation of Russia’s image as a large militarized country, which played the role of an oppressor for the Czechs in the recent past.

Abstract:
The Czech Republic seems to be a geographically peaceful place. However, the territory of the Republic is not free from natural disasters that have hit the country in the past, and are a common occurrence in the country nowadays. The most dramatic and destructive natural disasters and technical failures in the history of the Czech Republic included, among others, a broken dam on the Desn River in the Jizera Mountains (1916), earthquakes (1985), or floods that affected Moravia, Silesia and part of eastern Bohemia, as well as the territory of Poland, in July 1997. The latter threats related to flooding especially highlighted the inability of state institutions of the time to deal with crisis situations, and this led to undertaking work on the construction of a crisis management system in the Czech Republic. The purpose of this article is to present the solutions, experiences and trends of the currently functioning crisis management system in the Czech Republic. Why? Well, natural disasters know no borders and, just like it was in 1997, they could cover larger areas, including the territory of Poland, and the basic knowledge about the crisis management system of our neighbor (the Czech Republic) is contained in a broader concept: the concept of cross-border crisis management, the necessity of which results from cross-border threats.StreszczenieRepublika Czeska wydaje si by miejscem geograficznie spokojnym. Do najbardziej dramatycznych i niszczcych klsk ywioowych i awarii technicznych w historii Republiki Czeskiej naleay m.in. przerwana zapora na rzece Desnej w Grach Izerskich (1916 r.), trzsienia ziemi (1985 r.) czy powodzie, ktre w lipcu 1997 r. dotkny Morawy, lsk i cz wschodnich Czech, a take terytorium Polski.

The next parliamentary elections of the Czech Republic, which will be held on 8 and 9 October 2021, is a key political event for the Hungarian foreign policy expert community to watch this year because a possible new government without the participation of ANO 2011 can engage in a new European and neighbourhood policy of the Czech Republic. This analysis lists the key social and political factors that can shape the results of the election, outlines three possible scenarios of the election outcome, and highlights the implications of a possible government change on Czech-Hungarian relations.

Havlík, Vlastimil, and Alena Kluknavská. Our people first (again)! The impact of the Russia-Ukraine War on the populist Radical Right in the Czech Republic. European Center for Populism Studies (ECPS), March 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.55271/rp0015.

Full text
Abstract:
The report examines the impact of the war on the Czech populist Radical Right Freedom and Democracy Party (SDP) and its reaction to the war. Among the countries of the European Union (EU), the Czech Republic has become one of the most outspoken supporters of Ukraine, creating specific discursive opportunities for populist Radical Right actors. The paper investigates the supply and demand side of populist Radical Right politics, focusing on how the party positioned itself to attract support facing the challenge of reading and accommodating new public sentiments. We use qualitative analysis of the social media posts of the party leader Tomio Okamura to show that after the initial hesitant rejection of the Russian invasion, the party (re-)turned to pro-Russian narratives, incorporating the war into its populist nativist discourse and driving the ideas of welfare chauvinism and economic protectionism. Using data from the representative public opinion surveys, we show that the party supporters criticize economic support for Ukraine and the refugees and have the most positive attitudes towards Russia compared to the rest of the electorate. We discuss the potential long-term consequences on the position of the Czech populist Radical Right stressing the economic difficulties and war-related grievances.
