Abstract:
Summary A series of new 6-substituted 2,4-diaminopteridines (3-23) and pterins (26-43) have been synthesized by nucleophilic displacement reactions at the side chain of 6-bromomethyl-2,4-diaminopteridine (2) and 6- bromomethylpterin (25) using various types of 0-, N- and S-nucleophiles. Acid and base hydrolyses allow easy conversion of the 2,4-diaminopteridines (3-5, 7, 9, 10, 12, 19-21 and 23) into the corresponding pterins (26-32, 39-42). Acylations take place at the amino as well as at the functional groups in the side chain (44-46). A versatile protection of the amino group in pterins is its transformation into the N ,N -dimethylaminomethylcnimino function by amide-acetals (47, 50) allowing subsequently selective acylations at the side chain (48, 49).

Abstract:
The diversity and seasonal fluctuation of mosquitoes were studied in the two Wards (No. 53 and 54) of Dhaka City from March, 2011 to February, 2012. Eleven habitats under six spots, viz. Ramna Park, Hatir Jheel, Siddeshwary field, Moghbazar pond, Wireless lane and Indoor habitats were surveyed. Altogether 13 species of mosquitoes were identified belonging to four genera and these were Culex quinquefasciatus, Cx. gelidus, Cx. vishnui, Cx. fuscocephala, Cx. tritaeniorhynchus, Cx. hutchinsoni, Cx. fatigans, Mansonia annulifera, Mn. uniformis, Mn. indiana, Aedes aegypti, Ae. Albopictus and Armigeres subalbatus. Seven species, e.g. Cx. gelidus, Cx. vishnui, Ae. aegypti, Ae. albopictus, Mn. uniformis, Mn. annulifera and Mn. indiana were dominant in the months from June to October; three species, e.g. Cx. fuscocephala, Cx. quinquefasciatus and Ae. aegypti from November to February; and nine species, e.g. Ae. aegypti, Ae. albopictus, Ar. subalbatus, Cx. fuscocephala, Cx. gelidus, Cx. quinquefasciatus, Cx. tritaeniorhynchus, Cx. vishnui and Mn. annulifera from March to May. Cx. quinquefasciatus was present in all habitats except the fresh water lake. In semi?polluted Jheel, all the mosquito species, except Ae. aegypti, Ae. albopictus and Mn. indiana were observed. In coconut shell, larvae belonging to Cx. quinquefasciatus, Cx. fuscocephala, Ae. aegypti and Ar. subalbatus were observed. In tree holes, Ae. albopictus occupied the highest number. In tubs, Cx. quinquefasciatus, Cx. vishnui, Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus were found. In polluted drains, Cx. quinquefasciatus, Cx. vishnui and Cx. gelidus were common, but Cx. quinquefasciatus was the dominant one. In indoor habitat, Cx. quinquefasciatus and Ae. aegypti were more abundant. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/dujbs.v23i1.19822 Dhaka Univ. J. Biol. Sci. 23(1): 17-26, 2014

Abstract:
130 Background: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the survival impact of post-Cx after first-line chemotherapy (1st-line Cx) and second-line chemotherapy (2nd-line Cx) for AGC. Methods: Phase III trials published in English between 2005 and 2015 or presented at annual meetings of ASCO or ESMO between 2013 and 2015 were searched. No. of patients, types of chemotherapy, and patient characteristics, proportion of post-Cx use (post-Cx%), median progression free survival (mPFS), and median overall survival (mOS) of each treatment arm were surveyed; trials not reporting these were excluded from the study. Median post-progression survival (mPPS) was calculated as difference between mOS and mPFS. Weighted Spearman's correlation coefficients between post-Cx% and survival outcomes (mOS and mPPS) were calculated. The effect of post-Cx% on survival outcomes adjusted for the types of chemotherapy and patient characteristics was evaluated by meta-regressions. Results: Overall, 25 trials were selected: 15 with 31 arms for 1st-line Cx, and 10 with 16 arms for 2nd-line Cx. Weighted Spearman's correlation coefficients between post-Cx% and mOS/mPPS were 0.520/0.739 for 1st-line Cx, and 0.767/0.823 for 2nd-line Cx, respectively. Meta-regression analysis adjusting for types of chemotherapy, age and PS, showed that 10% increase in post-Cx% was associated with prolongation of mOS by 1.033 months for 1st-line Cx and 0.34 months for 2nd-line Cx. Conclusions: Post-Cx% after 2nd-line Cx are correlated with mPPS and mOS as well as 1st-line Cx, suggesting a survival benefit of 3rd-line Cx. [Table: see text]

Abstract:

Abstract:
Background In clinical practice, the same chemotherapeutic agents are occasionally reused (re-challenge) after failure of all available standard chemotherapy options for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). However, the benefits of re-challenge chemotherapy (Re-Cx) are unclear. This retrospective study evaluated the efficacy of Re-Cx, focusing on the tumor growth rate (TGR). Methods The study included mCRC patients with measurable lesions who received Re-Cx from November 2011 to October 2018 at National Cancer Center Hospital. Re-Cx was defined as re-administration of agents which had been used in prior lines of chemotherapy and discontinued due to disease progression. We compared the TGR immediately after initiating Re-Cx regimens with that observed at the time of disease progression during prior chemotherapy (Prior-Cx) immediately before Re-Cx. Results Of the 25 patients who received Re-Cx, five patients received two Re-Cx regimens. Therefore, a total of 30 cases of Re-Cx were analyzed in this study. The regimens of Re-Cx were oxaliplatin based (19 cases), irinotecan based (8 cases), and others (3 cases). Although the objective response rate to Re-Cx was 0%, the disease control rate was 60% (18 cases), and 40% (12 cases) showed some tumor shrinkage. We compared the effects of Re-Cx and Prior-Cx by the TGR and found that the TGR of Re-Cx was slower than that recorded in Prior-Cx in 26 of 30 cases (87%). In particular, the ratio of% TGR <0, which indicates tumor shrinkage, was obtained in 13 of 30 cases (43.3%). The median progression-free survival and overall survival after Re-Cx were 3.8 and 6.57 months, respectively. Conclusion We found that Re-Cx may have some anti-tumor efficacy as salvage treatment for mCRC and these results also suggested the clinical benefits of Re-Cx.

Abstract:
Despite the importance of Culex species as major vectors of Rift Valley fever virus, West Nile virus and the microfilariae that cause lymphatic filariasis, information on these mosquitoes in Sudan is limited to works published 65 years ago in the former Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, where some species were only recorded from areas of the territory now known as South Sudan. In this paper, we provide updated information on Culex mosquitoes collected indoors during surveillance studies conducted along the Nile River in central and northern areas of Sudan between 2012 and 2019. Of 3,411 female mosquitoes collected in Khartoum and northern states along the river, 2,560 (75%) were specimens of Culex belonging to 12 species: Cx. (Culex) antennatus (Becker, 1903), Cx. (Cux.) laticinctus Edwards, 1913, Cx. (Cux.) neavei Theobald, 1906, Cx. (Cux.) pipiens Linnaeus, 1758, Cx. (Cux.) perexiguus Theobald, 1903, Cx. (Cux.) poicilipes (Theobald, 1903), Cx. (Cux.) quinquefasciatus Say, 1823, Cx. (Cux.) simpsoni Theobald, 1905, Cx. (Cux.) sinaiticus Kirkpatrick, 1925, Cx. (Cux.) theileri Theobald, 1903, Cx. (Cux.) tritaeniorhynchus Giles, 1901 and Cx. (Culiciomyia) macfiei Edwards, 1923. This is the first record for Cx. tritaeniorhynchus and Cx. macfiei in central Sudan. The relative abundance of each species varied in different areas and seasons, but Cx. antennatus and Cx. quinquefasciatus were the most abundant indoor resting species. We provide an updated dichotomous key for the identification of the adults of Culex mosquitoes known to occur in the Republic of the Sudan.

Abstract:
Överums Bruk AB is a leading manufacturer of agricultural machinery where primarily Europe's largest market. Their main product is the mouldboardplough, the world leader right now in the market with low draft requirement needs and high efficiency. As competition increases and the costs are not reduce the required adaptation of new designs to production in order to bring down costs but also reduce the number of different parts. In this project, I start by on a proposal for a new main component called top to the Cx-plough. It will replace the old top but also the Spanish top used in the Spanisk market. The top is seated at the fron of the mouldboardplough and its purpose is to lift, pull and hold up the plough frame.    First, a thorough review of the process so that problems and improvement opportunities could be identified.I worked on with various calculations in order to conceive how much you could earn on the changes made. The conclusions is that the costs are very dependent on the processing time but also on the capacity available. With the capacity I mean the production capacity to adapt to make various parts for many products more effectively. One of my conclusions from special work is that it is often difficult to compete with companies that makes special parts for various industries. So what are known as contract manufacturing. It is the best in many cases to send over some elements of the production of details to contract manufacturer that makes them more effectively with other machines for the company to be experts on a certain manufacturing process. That way you can reduce the overall cost of the product.Additional findings of this study is that quality problems can mean significant costs if you do not fix it. No sized costs were discovered in the work but in the long run it may be economically indefensible. This meant that cost could increase uncontrollably to a level that directly affects the overall economics of Överums bruk.

Durkan, Anne Maria. "The expression of CX₃CL1 (fractalkine) in renal tubular epithelial cells and the regulation of CX₃CL1 by stimulation of the thromboxane prostanoid receptor." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/24546.

Abstract:
Most renal diseases have a common end inflammatory pathway, which is associated with a leukocytic infiltrate. Chemokines are small proteins that are responsible for the chemoattraction of leukocytes into areas of injury or insult. CX3CL1, also known as fractalkine, exists as a transmembrane protein as well as a soluble protein. It acts as a cell adhesion molecule in addition to its chemoattractant properties. This thesis firstly examines the distribution of CX3CL1 in renal tubular epithelial cells (RTEC) and in the second part of the thesis the regulation of CX3CL1 by stimulation of the thromboxane prostanoid (TP) receptor is examined. The localisation of CX3CL1 was initially demonstrated primarily on the apical surface of tubular epithelial cells in human renal biopsy specimens with histological diagnoses of acute tubular necrosis and acute allograft rejection. A cell model was then developed in MDCK cells to examine the distribution more closely. There are a limited number of mechanisms potentially responsible for the trafficking of CX3CL1 to the apical membrane and it was established that N-glycosylation of CX3CL1 is required for its presence on the apical membrane of RTEC. The mobility of CX3CL1 within the cell membrane was next assessed and it was shown to be relatively immobile. We hypothesized that this would promote cell adhesion and indeed further experiments confirmed that CX3CL1 in RTEC does promote adhesion of cells bearing the cognate receptor. Given that CX3CL1 and thromboxane A2 are both found in similar inflammatory conditions, are both present early in the inflammatory process and that stimulation of the TP receptor has been shown to regulate other chemokines, we next evaluated the effect of stimulation of TP on CX3CL1. We found that both total and surface cellular levels of CX3CL1 were reduced following stimulation of TP. A maximal nadir was present after 30-60 minutes and the levels returned to baseline by 4 hours. The mechanism for the loss of CX3CL1 was then assessed. CX3CL1 is known to recycle between the cell surface and an internal compartment. No effect of TP stimulation was seen on the endocytosis or exocytosis of CX3CL1. Stimulation of TP was however, shown to stimulate tumour necrosis factor-a converting enzyme (TACE) via ERK phosphorylation. TACE inducibly cleaves CX3CLI, releasing the soluble chemokine. TACE siRNA was used to knock down TACE gene expression and this prevented the loss of cellular CX3CL1, confirming that TP stimulation induces TACE cleavage of CX3CL1. T he results of further experiments are discussed in the discussion chapter.

Abstract:
Canonical Z2-actions on certain C*-algebras are investigated. The algebras under consideration are C* -algebras on generators and relations associated to directed graphs, and, depending on the graph, they are shown to be either AF or purely infinite and simple. The class of graph C* -algebras contains Cuntz-Krieger algebras OA and the Cuntz algebra O, and can be regarded as a generalisation of those, corresponding to countably infinite matrices. Dynamical systems of the form (OA, α), where OA is an even Cuntz-Krieger algebra, and α the above canonical symmetry, are considered. If the pair (OA, α) satisfies certain conditions, it is shown to be classified by the following K-theoretic invariant: The proof uses the Rokhlin property of the canonical endomorphism on OA. It is shown that such a pair (OA, α) is isomorphic to the inductive limit system lim (An, αn), where each An is a direct sum of matrix algebras over even Cuntz algebras, and αn the canonical symmetry. Dynamical systems of the form (O, α) and (Oβ) are isomorphic. The proof is based on the corresponding results for the actions on Cuntz algebras, and approximate absorption.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The synchronous application of flow control in the presence of unsteady wakes was studied on a highly-loaded low pressure turbine blade. The L1A blade has a design Zweifel coefficient of 1.34 and a suction peak at 58% axial chord, making it an aft-loaded pressure distribution. Velocity and pressure data were acquired at Rec = 20,000 with 3% incoming freestream turbulence. Unsteady wakes from an upstream vane row are simulated with a moving row of bars at a flow coefficient of 0.76. At this Reynolds number, the blade exhibits a non-reattaching separation bubble beginning at 57% axial chord under steady flow conditions without upstream wakes. The separation zone is modified substantially by the presence of unsteady wakes, producing a smaller separation zone and reducing the area-averaged wake total pressure loss by more than 50%. The wake disturbance accelerates transition in the separated shear layer but stops short of reattaching the flow. Rather, a new time-averaged equilibrium location is established for the separated shear layer, further downstream than without wakes. The focus of this study was the application of pulsed flow control using two spanwise rows of discrete vortex generator jets (VGJs). The VGJs were located at 59% Cx, approximately the peak cp location, and at 72% Cx. The most effective separation control was achieved at the 59% Cx location. Wake total pressure loss decreased 60% from the wake only level and the cp distribution fully recovered its high Reynolds number (attached flow) performance. The VGJ disturbance dominates the dynamics of the separated shear layer, with the wake disturbance assuming a secondary role only. When the pulsed jet actuation (30% duty cycle) was initiated at the 72% Cx location, synchronization with the wake passing frequency (10.6Hz) was key to producing the most effective separation control. A 25% improvement in effectiveness was obtained by aligning the jet actuation between wake events. Evidence suggests that flow control using VGJs will be effective in the highly unsteady LPT environment of an operating gas turbine, provided the VGJ location and amplitude are adapted for the specific blade profile.
