Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
DOES TRANSLATION GUARANTEE THE EXPANSION OF IDEAS IN ANOTHER CULTURE? THE CASE OF L’AMOUR EN PLUS BY ELISABETH BADINTER Translation has certainly contributed to the spread of French feminist thought around the world. There are, however, translations which do not seem to have contributed significantly to the spread of this thought in Poland. This is the case of Elisabeth Badinter’s essay, L’amouren plus: histoire de l’amourmaternel (XVIIe – XXe siècle), published in 1980, which sparked controversy in France. According to the author, the maternal instinct is a social and cultural construct. L’amouren plus was a success and it has been translated into a total of 28 languages. The Polish translation of this work, Historia miłości macierzyńskiej, appeared in 1998, 18 years after the original was published. However, as our study shows, Badinter’s thought is hardly present in Polish works on feminism. Thus, translation does not always guarantee the circulation of the ideas of the original work in another culture or the love of foreign readers.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Seven film directors – Mehran Tamadon, David Korn-Brzoza, Jean-Gabriel Périot, Frédéric Gonseth, Stéphane Goël, Daniel Wyss et Alex Mayenfisch – discussed the four key-steps in historic documentary film production. Their seven points of view diverged on why and how films should and can portray History. From the roundtable brilliantly moderated by Anaïs Kien, producer for La Fabrique de l’Histoire at France Culture radio station, there emerged a variety of film-making practices – from purists of audiovisual archives to illusionists of high definition colour movies.

Abstract:
Hunting in the ancien regime is an art of the sovereignty. This privilegied leisure is a school of self-control and so legitimates a social superiority ; it emphasizes the distance with commoners but integrates individuals in social ascension and initiates them into elitist ethics. The first part analyses the estabishment of a restrictive legislation and its translation in hunting treatises ; the second part presents hunters discourse about nature and sociability ; the third considers the royal hunting as power's ritual and proposes a sociological analysis of its officers ; the fourth part deals with poaching's repression

Abstract:
This dissertation tries to reconstruct the geography, cultures and policies about homosexuals in France and Spain between 1945 and 1975. Through arquives of Brigade Mondaine of Paris and of Courts of Vagos y maleantes, and Peligrosidad y rehabilitación social of Barcelona essentially, this work examines the myth of "liberation" since 1970's. Thus I demostrate that France defended a sexual moral view stricter than Spain and that explains partially the delay in France to grant equal rights

Abstract:
This research is drawn towards industrial archeology and enterprise culture in the "saut du tarn" in "saint juery" (france, 81) and is based on a study of the technical knowledge. The industrial know-hows involved in metal precessing particularly drew out attention. Our goal was to study the industrial net work of this enterprise since 1825, through a listing of the techniques and an ethnographic approach of the social groups created among this network. Does a technical tradition influence specific cultural behaviours ? it is an hypothesis, we had to chek and according to this, the metallurgical industry network affered several dimensions technical, economical and cultural seeming to be quite coherent

Abstract:
The aim of this work was to give a global explanation of historicism by investigation of the link between architects and history during nineteenth century. In the first part we give an architect's definition by two ways : 1, an image one - link to functional one with the important role of 1830's discourse about artistics. 2, a learning one with the role of drawing and the ecole des beaux-arts at paris, where exist a process of acculturation. In the second part we observe some fields of enquiry (site, church town hall) on the 1760-1920 period, with continuities and breaking. Laugier's theory of cabane on one part and, on the other, the coming of a new historical approach (i. E guizot) in architectural field

Abstract:

Abstract:
The study analyses the ways by which a social group consumed and produced a world of goods in order to shape its own social and cultural identity. With a view to reconstruct the social and cultural uses of things in a city which underwent deep commercial and spatial changes, the thesis identifies the nature and forms of the Parisian bourgeoisie’s consumption, through private and business archives. It studies how the bourgeois home was redefined in flat and in the growing city and how daily technology forged the bourgeoise’s private scenography and self-awareness. It studies then the material culture of 19th century Parisian bourgeoisie, understood as a set of signs and narratives designed by dealers and consumers, whilst industrialisation radically transformed the nature and hierarchy of materials and commodities. Finally, this work sheds light on phenomenons of imitation and distinction as social mobility increased and analyses how fashion trends came to being onto specific urban scenes, through the mediating role of taste legislators and the means of new forms of urban advertising

Abstract:
This thesis examines the inception and development of the christian women's trade union movement in france from 1899 to its dissolution in 1944. With a membership composed entirely of women, these organizations included mostly employees of businesses, banks and industry as well as workers in the textile industry. Within the context of a changing catholic social movement, a number of factors contributed to making the christian women's trade unions markedly different from the women's catholic action groups and associations : their locations, recruiting methods, professionnal orientations as well as the militant agenda of their members. In light of this, this thesis attempts to resolve the question of how a femaledominated culture develops and evolves within a movement where traditions of struggles and organizational methods are inspired by a largely-male culture. The first part of the thesis examines the birth of the first organizations up to their affiliation with the cftc in 1919. It also examines the conditions underlying the birth of a number of union associations and how they made their mark. The second part focuses on the inter-war period and pays particular attention to the sociological factors of the unions' militant component. The third part of the study is concerned with the advocacy of women's unions in the 1920s and 1930s. The last part covers the period from 1936 to 1944. A number of major upheavals in which women's unions were involved during these critical years are also presented. This thesis also investigates the outcome of this type of organization in an era where events charted a new course for the trade union movement as a whole

Abstract:
Many folklorists and regionalists helped to shape the national revolution under the Vichy regime. This contribution was neither motivated by political views nor by opportunism, but rather by shared ideas, to which scientists and some politicians, higher officials and writers of the Vichy period appealed. In studying the formation of networks, analysing individual trajectories, this thesis establishes the existence of a group unified by similar beliefs, consistent with the idea that the culture of any region is determined, like the race of its inhabitants, by the landscape and the climate. These folklorists invented the theory of "natural culture", which draws them closer to the racial anthropologists of the Ecole d'Anthropologie or the Carrel's institute, than to the social anthropology introduced by Marcel Mauss. Their works, through impregnated with xenophobia or even racism, still have an influence because they were trying to surpass the opposition between nature and culture

Abstract:
Abstract While predominantly a country of immigration, France also counts with a sizeable population of citizens abroad of around three million individuals (4% of the domestic population). This chapter provides a general overview of France’s diaspora institutions, consular policies and social protection policies for citizens abroad. It describes in detail expatriates’ conditions of eligibility and access to welfare in the areas of unemployment, health care, pensions, family benefits and economic hardship. It shows that France, by European standards, has a comparatively strong level of engagement with its expatriates, particularly in the areas of electoral rights, culture and social protection. This must be understood in the light of France’s colonial history, its continued ambition to be a global actor, and its well-developed domestic welfare state that has increasingly become de-territorialised.

Abstract:
Abstract This chapter presents a synthesis of the diverse academic traditions in China and Europe to implement global history. Supremacy and exceptionalism have characterized the socio-economic and cultural development of European powers, mainly Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, and Germany, on one side, and, on the other side, there is the long-lasting civilization and uniqueness of Chinese culture and history which is present today in the rise of China’s economy.

Abstract:
This chapter takes a chronological journey through the history of medieval Latin in France, focusing on the great Renaissance periods of the ninth and twelfth centuries. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of educational institutions in fostering the growth of intellectual life and, by extension, literary culture. The end of the Middle Ages is not neglected because, despite the undeniable rise of French in the thirteenth-fourteenth centuries, Latin retained its traditional place at the top of the language ladder and consolidated its role as the language of national and international scholarly communication.

Abstract:
In Europe, concerns regarding urban planning have evolved: rural areas are now recognized as a seat of value or principles and structures that urban culture wishes to see preserved. This change is reflected in 20th century french urban planning. In France, countryside represents not only an environment of agricultural production or a recurrent artistic and literary reference, but also a sign of historical identity, as the distribution of the current landownership dates back to the legacy of the Revolution. This paper examines these developments in accordance with planning guidelines issued to tackle operations in the urban agglomeration of Lyon, often viewed as exemplary.

Abstract:
Some coastal historic cities with certain potential of tourism development and strong cultural traditions need a proper planning able to tackle such development. Overexploitation of the coastal strip drives the deterioration of the elements that make it different from other territories, basic reason for its possible tourist attraction. Local culture and landscape are inextricably linked, influence cities and territories development and can be the basis of an environmentally and socially sustainable tourism development. So, with Agaete and Alghero as cases of study, analysis of all forms of expression of the local, historical tradition will set the contemporary image of their culture, where landscapes articulate spaces in which this culture is developed, allowing to understand its territorial structure and its subsequent revaluation.

Abstract:

OA666 bridge on the new part continuing the A4 highway in Luxembourg towards France (structure completed in 2017-2019) shows the interest steel-concrete composite solutions for modern infrastructure projects. The deck is extremely slender: the central parts spans 50m with a constant structural height of 1.35 m. The geometry is a bit complex since the road axis follows a clothoidal path with a minimum radius of 640m in the horizontal plane and crosses an existing roadway with a variable skew angle. The construction site is encercled by existing local roads and a lake. The steelwork (total weight 1300 tons, total length 126m) is realized entirely in S460 thermo-mechanical steel with material thicknesses up to 100mm.

Abstract:

The realization of concrete bridges in Italy in the last century started a bit later in comparison to other Europena countries such as Germany and France. However, the work of important designers such as Arturo Danusso, Eugenio Miozzi, Giulio Krall gave a huge impulse to bridge engineering in Italy, reducing the gap with leading countries. In particular, the role of Riccardo Morandi was quite exceptional, due to his innovative design criteria which are very well represented, for example, in the Storms River bridge in South Africa and in the Fiumarella Bridge in Catanzaro. The recent tragedy of the collapse of Polcevera viaduct in Genova is instrumental in discussing the different approaches needed when dealing with important existing bridges and the possibile retrofitting techniques.

Abstract:
Nowadays all the students, no matter the nationality, develop critical and reflective thinking skills and are encouraged to care about the world around them. Thus they may realize that some degrees of personal or social transformations are required. Taking into consideration this, it is important to note that transformational process can be enhanced with online learning (especially e-learning). Therefore, knowledge about the relationship between culture and online education is very relevant. The goal of this study is to explore the relationship between national culture and the usability of an e-learning system. Hofstede's cultural dimensions (Power Distance, Individualism/Collectivism, Masculine/Feminine, Uncertainty Avoidance, Long-term Orientation vs. Short-Term Orientation, Indulgence vs. Restraint) will be used to guide the cultural aspects of this study. We will conclude that individual cultural backgrounds contribute substantially to the usability of most online learning systems. Teachers can talk about crafting or designing the learner experience, but the level of control over learner experience is quite indirect and mediated by several factors not under teacher control. The participants will be observed while performing tasks and will be given a questionnaire at the completion of the tasks. The results of this study could be useful and interesting for academic environments. Today, despite information technologies such as the World Wide Web, there is no "global village culture" and we have not reached Francis Fukuyama's "end of history". Repeated measurements of culture show that countries that get richer get more individualistic. For the other dimensions, no such trends are apparent. Since worldwide differences in wealth are on the rise, this would point to increasing cultural differences, not cultural convergence.

Abstract:
The paper provides a scientific insight into the history of human interaction with the environment. It focuses on the history of the Slavonian (oak) tree forests and lumbering that inspired the artists and their images. On the one hand, there is the well-known pre-war Vinkovci photographer, Franjo Körner (1901-1945), whose valuable collection of 97 glass plate negatives was accidentally discovered in 2020. Unlike Körner, another artist from Vinkovci used words to express his passion and love for the Slavonian (oak) tree forests. Being a professional forester, Ivan Kozarac wrote numerous poems, short stories and novels inspired by the Slavonian landscape. From the perspective of new cultural geography i.e. literature geography, the landscape is not simply a material artifact that reflects the culture in straightforward ways but is laden with symbolic meaning that needs to be decoded concerning the social and historical context.

Abstract:
Cities face the challenge of transforming existing buildings to be reused, particularly those that are underused or not used at all. Tackling this issue, the European Commission approved in 2014 a package of measures to promote a circular economy. According to this agreement, our cities can be more sustainable and resilient by transforming these underused existing buildings with proposals for their adaptive temporary reuse, favoring the citizens’ well-being and quality of life and promoting social inclusion and economic growth with respect for the environment. This paper studies the role of heritage education in adaptive urban reuse, exploring the possibilities and methodologies for the reprogramming of existing buildings for different types of activities to offer citizens and communities the opportunity to participate in the life of the city, favouring their social inclusion. In contrast to the common new-builds or refurbishment commissions, reuse offers a greater possibility of disseminating, transforming and reinventing architectural methodologies and approaches to integrate in the design process forms of citizen participation, favouring the transition towards a model of a circular economy and more sustainable consumption. The paper analyses the possibilities of urban reuse applied to five major public heritage buildings in Barcelona: the Post Office Building, the Old Customs House, the France Train Station, the Martorell Museum and the Castle of the Three Dragons. Each of them has a particular condition regarding current uses and its public owning institution and presents specific characteristics regarding building typology, heritage protection, conservation and construction materials and techniques. The buildings date either from the late 19th century or the early 20th century and are grouped along a 1 km axis on the threshold between the historic center and the port of the city. This unique location represents a great strategic potential for the regeneration and urban reactivation of the city.

Abstract:
The idea that the Russian estate as a phenomenon lived a short life, which began in 1762 and abruptly ended in 1917 with the Russian Revolution and destruction of the institute of private landownership, dominated Russian historiography for quite a long period of time. However, in the last decades, this perspective changed significantly, and now researchers are more focused on studying what role estate life played in Russian culture after 1917. There were many forms of the existence of estate life: some estates transformed into museums of everyday life in the countryside or places where famous personalities lived and worked before their death, and so on. Others were restored or newly constructed in the Soviet times, especially during the wave of passeism, when writers reconsidered the estate world and the estate history as an essential component of cultural and historical memory, the “sanctuary of the soul.” Nevertheless, this myth-making also had a genuine basis – an attempt to reconstruct the estate history from abroad. The article, written in the genre of comparative case-study, is devoted to a comparative description of estate experiments, the actors of which were two famous Russian artists who found themselves in exile. The first case is the experience of I.A. Bunin, who settled in exile in the south of France and tried – under seemingly unfavorable conditions – to create some semblance of Russian estate life in a foreign land. The second case, a much more prosperous, at least in a material sense, is S.V. Rachmaninov’s project of building an estate on the shores of Lake Firvaldstät (Lucerne) to comfort his wife, who yearned for their Tambov family estate enormously. The article’s central question is what role such a resurrection of a piece of Russia abroad played in the exiled existence of Rachmaninov and Bunin, but also to what extent and how it was able to sublimate in their work.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The blog post discusses the linguistic and cultural peculiarities of Piedmont and the Aosta Valley, two regions that have historically straddled France and Italy. It provides a brief historical linguistic overview of the development of Gallo-Romance languages (French, Franco-Provençal, and Occitan) in these regions. The piece describes the Francophile and Francophone orientation of Piedmont throughout its history, as well as the belated introduction of Tuscan (Italian). It stresses the singularity of Piedmontese, and its close linguistic relation to neighbouring Gallo-Romance languages. Against this background, the text assesses the current state and vitality of Franco- and Gallo-Romance peripheries within the borders of Italy, and explains how such identities have evolved, been reshaped or become politicized. Primordialist and constructivist perspectives on national (and minority) identities are combined to better understand the development, decay, and reconfiguration of linguistic and cultural identities in Piedmont and the Aosta Valley.

Abstract:
The Tripletail, Lobotes surinamensis, is a pelagic fish found in tropical and sub-tropical waters of all oceans. Tripletails are often associated with floating debris and make frequent incursions in bays and estuaries where they are targeted by recreational fishermen. In Mississippi waters the species is typically present during the late spring and summer season that also correspond to the period of sexual maturation and spawning (Brown-Peterson and Franks 2001). Tripletail is appreciated as a gamefish but is also prized for its flesh of superior quality. The fast growth rate of juveniles in captivity documented by Franks et al. (2001) and the excellent quality of Tripletail flesh both contribute to the potential of this species for marine aquaculture. In addition, the production of cultured juveniles would be precious to develop a better understanding of the biology, early life history and habitat use of Tripletail larvae and juveniles, a topic largely undocumented to date, through experimental releases and controlled studies. The culture of tripletail thus supports the Tidelands Trust Fund Program through improved conservation of natural resources, potential enhancement of fisheries productivity and potential development of a new economic activity on the Gulf coast producing tripletail via aquaculture. The Objective of this project was to initiate development of methods and techniques needed to spawn captive held tripletail broodfish and raise their offspring to evaluate their growth and development in captivity. In this report we will present the results of studies aiming to develop methods and protocols for captive spawning of tripletail and the first data obtained on the early development of tripletail larvae. A major issue that was encountered with tripletail broodstock development during the project lied in the difficulties associated with identifying the sex of adults caught in the wild and candidates for being incorporated in mating sets for spawning. This issue was addressed during the course of the project by examining the potential of a non-lethal method of hormonal sexing. The results of these preliminary investigations are presented in the third part of this report. All protocols used in the project were determined with the guidance of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) of the University of Southern Mississippi (USM IACUC protocol number 10100108).

Abstract:

Abstract:
The article reveals and characterizes the methodological features of teaching the discipline «Intellectual and Psychological Foundations of Mass Media Functioning» on the third year of the Faculty of Journalism at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The focus is on the principles, functions, and standards of journalistic creativity during the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. As the Russian genocidal, terrorist, and ecocidal war has posed acute challenges to the education and upbringing of student youth. A young person is called not only to acquire knowledge but to receive them simultaneously with comprehensive national, civic, and moral-spiritual upbringing. Teaching and educating students, the future journalists, on Ukrainian-centric, nation-building principles ensure a sense of unity between current socio-political processes and historical past, and open an intellectual window to Ukraine’s future. The teaching of the course ‘Intellectual-Psychological Foundations of Mass Media Functioning’ (lectures and practical classes, creative written assignments) is grounded in the philosophy of national education and upbringing, aimed at shaping a citizen-patriot and a knight, as only such a citizen is capable of selfless service to their own people, heroic struggle for freedom, and the united Ukrainian national state. The article presents student creative works, the aim of which is to develop historical national memory in students, promote the ideals of spiritual unity and integrity of Ukrainian identity, nurture the life-sustaining values of the Ukrainian language and culture, perpetuate the symbols of statehood, and strengthen the moral dignity and greatness of Ukrainian heroism. A methodology for assessing students’ pedagogical-professional competence and the fairness of teachers who deliver lectures and conduct practical classes has been summarized. The survey questions allow students to express their attitudes towards the content, methods, and forms of the educational process, which involves the application of experience from European and American countries, but the main emphasis is on the application of Ukrainian ethnopedagogy. Its defining ideas are democracy, populism, and patriotism, enriched with a distinct nation-building potential, which instills among students a unique culture of genuine Ukrainian history, the Ukrainian language and literature, national culture, and high journalistic professionalism. Key words: educator, student, journalism, education, patriotism, competence, national consciousness, Russian-Ukrainian war, professionalism.
