CODECASA, DANIELE. "Continuous time bayesian network classifiers." Doctoral thesis, Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10281/80691.

Full text
Abstract:
Streaming data are relevant to finance, computer science, and engineering, while they are becoming increasingly important to medicine and biology. Continuous time Bayesian networks are designed for analyzing efficiently multivariate streaming data, exploiting the conditional independencies in continuous time homogeneous Markov processes. Continuous time Bayesian network classifiers are a specialization of continuous time Bayesian networks designed for multivariate streaming data classification when time duration of events matters and the class occurs in the future. Continuous time Bayesian network classifiers are presented and analyzed. Structural learning is introduced for this class of models when complete data are available. A conditional log-likelihood scoring is derived to improve the marginal log- likelihood structural learning on continuous time Bayesian net- work classifiers. The expectation maximization algorithm is developed to address the unsupervised learning of continuous time Bayesian network classifiers when the class is unknown. Performances of continuous time Bayesian network classifiers in the case of classification and clustering are analyzed with the help of a rich set of numerical experiments on synthetic and real data sets. Continuous time Bayesian network classifiers learned by maximizing marginal log-likelihood and conditional log-likelihood are compared with continuous time naive Bayes and dynamic Bayesian networks. Results show that the conditional log-likelihood scoring combined with Bayesian parameter estimation outperforms marginal log-likelihood scoring and dynamic Bayesian networks in the case of supervised classification. Conditional log-likelihood scoring becomes even more effective when the amount of available data is limited. Continuous time Bayesian network classifiers outperform dynamic Bayesian networks even on data sets generated from dis- crete time models. Clustering results show that in the case of unsupervised learning the marginal log-likelihood score is the most effective way to learn continuous time Bayesian network classifiers. Continuous time models again outperform dynamic Bayesian networks even when applied on discrete time data sets. A Java software toolkit implementing the main theoretical achievements of the thesis has been designed and developed under the name of the CTBNCToolkit. It provides a free stand- alone toolkit for multivariate trajectory classification and an open source library, which can be extend in accordance with the GPL v.2.0 license. The CTBNCToolkit allows classification and clustering of multivariate trajectories using continuous time Bayesian network classifiers. Structural learning, maximizing marginal log-likelihood and conditional log-likelihood scores, is provided.

Dweck, David. "Challenging Current Paradigms Related to Cardiomyopathies: Are Changes in the Calcium Sensitivity of Myofilaments Containing Mutations Good Predictors of the Phenotypic Outcomes?" Scholarly Repository, 2008. http://scholarlyrepository.miami.edu/oa_dissertations/313.

Full text
Abstract:
Three novel mutations (G159D, L29Q and E59D/D75Y) in cardiac troponin C (CTnC) associate their clinical outcomes with a given cardiomyopathy. Current paradigms propose that sarcomeric mutations associated with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) decrease the myofilament calcium sensitivity while those associated with hypertrophic (HCM) cardiomyopathy increase it. Therefore, we incorporated the mutant CTnCs into skinned cardiac muscle in order to determine if their effects on the calcium regulation of tension and ATPase activity coincide with the current paradigms and phenotypic outcomes. This required the development of new calculator programs to solve complex ionic equilibria to more accurately buffer and expand the free calcium range of our test solutions. In accordance with the DCM paradigms, our result show that G159D and E59D/D75Y CTnC decrease the myofilament calcium sensitivity and force generating capabilities which would likely increase the rate of muscle relaxation and weaken the contractile force of the myocardium. Alternatively, the lack of myofilament change from L29Q CTnC (associated with HCM) may explain why the only proband is seemingly unaffected. Notably, the changes in the calcium sensitivity of tension (in fibers) do not necessarily occur in the isolated CTnC and vice versa. These counter-intuitive findings are justified through a transition in calcium affinity occurring at the level of cardiac troponin (CTn) and higher, implying that the true effects of these mutations become apparent as the hierarchal level of the myofilament increases. Despite these limitations, the regulated thin filament (RTF) retains its role as the calcium regulatory unit and best indicates a mutation's ability to sensitize (+) or desensitize (-) the muscle to calcium. Since multiple forms of cardiomyopathies exist, the identification of new drugs that sensitize (+) or desensitize (-) the calcium sensitivity could potentially reverse (+ or -) these aberrant changes in myofilament sensitivity. Therefore, we have developed an RTF mediated High Throughput Screening assay to identify compounds in libraries of molecules that can specifically modulate the calcium sensitivity of cardiac contraction. The knowledge gained from these studies will help us and others to uncover new pharmacological agents for the investigation and treatments of cardiomyopathies, hypertension and other forms of cardiovascular diseases.

That model was the basis for the observation of the company reality, of the structure and function of the historical background being implanted by CTBC, an Algar Group company rendering services in the area of telecommunications and which will complete fifty years of activity in February, 2004. The background analyzed, denominated Memory Center CTBC, in its creational phase since 1999, within a company memory program, has already catalogued documents, pictures, publications, videos, equipment, objects and, principally taped testimonies with workers and ex-workers with the objective of recovering Company history. To evaluate the importance of the program of company memory, or in other words, if it contributes to the communication process of consolidating the image and organizational culture, this case study had as its premise, the analysis, from the available records, as to whether the Company identity is in harmony with the desired image. Reference for such analysis was found in items of Beliefs, Values and Essential Skills followed by CTBC and the Algar Group. The conclusion reached, after personal, daily contact by the researcher, as a CTBC worker and background consultation, according to the established methodology, was that access to the Company history permitted the verification of cultural alignment, in five decades of social, economic, political and administrative changes, that correspond to organizational necessity for the preservation of its basic values, which showed the importance of the memory center contributing, as a tool in the process of communication, to consolidate organizational image and culture.

Abstract:
To grow in competitive environments, the organizations have to improve processes and people abilities thru information technology and make strategic decisions about information quality demand, in their in-house supply chains, to delivery quality service. However, guarantee customers demand and satisfy employees needs, request appropriate information management, what can be expensive and difficult. For that reason, information supply thru the process chain, demands an efficient structure to understand what these subsidies symbolize and why they are so important to delivery services with quality. Thus, the objective of this research is to evaluate the information flow quality in a services organization in-house supply chain, to identify the information quality dimensions that allow the progress of planned results attainment. For this, it was conduced a case study at CTBC Telecom, a regional telecommunications player in Brazilian southeastern, with a good social-economics representation. The specific focus of appreciation was the NetSuper, a broad band service (ADSL). The analysis identified the main information quality dimensions to the executives and their distortions that compromise these subsidies quality. For this, CTBC Telecom inhouse supply chain was drawn, the information flow of this chain was justified, the dimensions quality were ranked to prioritize those most important at the managers perception and the complete view of information flow process was described. Afterwards, the salesmen information knowledge level, about NetSuper service, was identified and also their satisfaction with the quality of information, processes and other subsidies for sales, for then, verifies the information quality loss. The research is descriptive and, predominantly qualitative. For data gathering it had been applied half-structuralized interviews with managers, document analyses and a structuralized questionnaire to a representative salesmen sample of direct and indirect channels. Data were tabulated and interpreted applying frequency analysis, dynamic tables and graphical exits. This case study evidenced that managers perceive the information quality loss, confirmed by the questionnaires data from salespeople, which evidence their lack of knowledge about the product advantages and attributes. Sales force sample highlighted some specific needs on quality dimensions that would improve the information quality flow. But, by the results, it was evidenced that the most important quality dimensions for CTBC Telecom Company are not dealt with priority in the Organization, what demonstrate that a model of integrated management of processes is needed. Further on this, it was recommended a scheme for an information quality management structure, referenced on the theoretical models of Supply Chain Management (Lambert, 2004) and Services Quality Gaps (Zeithaml and Parasuraman, 2004). Subsequent studies should include suppliers and consumers in the analysis, enclosing, by this, all relationships of the chain in which the information flows. Another investigative aspect is the adoption of measurement patterns of the information quality for all actors of the in-house supply chain, to survey the quality of the information.
A pesquisa é descritiva e, predominantemente qualitativa.

Abstract:
Aim of the researche: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the dental and bone effects of slow maxillary expansion, with low forces and hight movement control, in a sample of young patients with unilateral transversal maxillary deficiency, with mandibular shift. Materials and method: have been included in the study 10 patients (n° 3 male, n° 7 female) with an average age of 7.5 yrs +/- 7, treated with a slow maxillary expansion by Leaf Expander appliance . - Pilot Study I: for all ten patients, the digital models have been made at the beginning of the therapy (T1), at the end of expansion (T2). Five parameters have been measured with the cast analysis: 1) the distance between the first upper permanent molars 2) the distance between the upper second deciduous molars 3) the distance between the upper canine cusps 4) the distance between the lowers molars 5) the distance of the lower canine cusps. - Pilot Study II: for only 5 patients, with loss of space for upper cusps, a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) have been performed at the beginning of the therapy (T1) and after expansion (L.E. remotion) (T2). Misurations and superimpositions have been performed to evaluate the three parameters, most relevant on basis of literature: 1) nasal width 2) basal bone 3) intermolar diameter at II deciduous molars Results: In all the patients the complete correction of posterior crossbite has been achieved in 4 monts, on average. Significant increases in the dental and skeletal transversal diameters were obtained with slow maxillary expansion. Increases were also obtained about anterior mandibular arch (+ 1mm). Conclusions: the Pilot Studys performed confirm the soundness of Leaf Expander appliance in the transversal deficiency correction with a both dental-alveolar and skelectal action in the treatment of young patients.

There is a lot of potential in Taiwan wealth management market, all the banks are involving in this segment and trying to gain the market share as much as they can. The banking industry, debenture, insurance, and financial consultants, to name a few, are jumping into this market and providing different kinds of services and projects for customers. Technology innovations brought out the automatic services that gradually replace the traditional counter service. What are more to come are the "Fintech" and "Bank3.0", trends that bring tremendous changes to the banking industry and traditional financial organisations. The main focus of this study is based on the actual bank financial management service, with data mining categorization skill (discriminant analysis, logistic regression analysis, neural network) to construct predictions on behaviour patterns of individual investments. According to this prediction model, we can then offer strategic directions to increase the clients' investment willingness and their satisfaction. This study is completed with 210 clients database as evidence for the hypothesis outlined in this study. The results are listed in the following: 1.Customers aged average 50.16 years old, average property sum NTD10,383K, 44.76% categorised in the aggressive segment, 29.52% mainly invested in the mature stock market, 34.76% with investment duration lasting more than 12 months. 2.The main purpose of this prediction model is to compare the 3 different analysing tools to reach the best choice. According to the research result, artificial neural network accomplished with 100%, which is the highest score among the analysing tools, is the best and most recommended instrument. 3.In general, the prediction model constructed by the artificial neural network is the most accurate prediction results; and the "investment duration" and "currents in NTD (per 10,000)" of the individual client would affect the plausibility of the prediction.

Founded in 2004, CTBC foundation had been cared about vulnerable families and children since it founded. CTBC foundation established an entrepreneurship pro-poor plan named The Happiness Project in 2011. This project coordinates with multi institution including commercial bank, social welfare organization ,consulting institution , credit guarantee fund and life insurance company to establish an all-around environment for vulnerable families parents to start their own business. Coordinated through project consultants, counselors and start-up parents themselves, The Happiness project becoming better and approaching perfection day by day to avoid adverse selection and resource abuse. By means of “The Real Big Fried Squid” and “Li Cheng compound dining” two start-ups counseled by CTBC Happiness project. We realize what difficulties micro-entrepreneur might confront when they set up their own business. Via start-up lecture learning and assistance from consultants & counselors the two entrepreneur learned their start up skill and solved difficulties. As we know government also play an assistant role in start-up loans for a long time and the authorities concerned can make a better public appeal compared to private company. So it’s a great challenge for Ms. Lin, the project leader, to differentiate Happiness Project to other start-up assistance project. Lack of the first capital and resource integration capabilities, Vulnerable families face greater challenge comparted to normal start-up, and one-time credit and assistance lack of follow-up might make cause greater risk for them. Understanding the USP of Happies Project and its long-term accumulated know-how. Project leader Ms. Lin wish the project can be spread like bamboo after a spring rain and solve the vicious circle of poor prevailed in vulnerable families in Taiwan fundamentally.

Mutations of cardiac troponin C (cTnC) may cause cardiomyopathy, which is one of the most serious heart diseases of elders, but there is no suitable animal model to study this late-onset disorder. Zebrafish is a good material due to its embryo is transparent and the inducible system in vivo is developed. Zebrafish inducible transgenic line was carried out which expressed cardiac specific EGFP and truncated cTnC at the same time with doxcycline (10μg/ml) induction. After induction at 3 dpf of F2 embryo, we observed that the heart beating rate of zebrafish inducible transgenic line was slower than that of the control fish (188.9± 21.7 Vs. 199.8±22.2 beats/min) after 4 days induction. Both the diastolic volume and the systolic volume of zebrafish inducible transgenic line were larger than control group over the observation time (after 1 to 6 days induction). Furthermore, the ejection fraction of zebrafish inducible transgenic line was also lower than control group during the observation period (after 1 to 6 days induction), especially at 5 days induction (8 dpf) (41.9±6.8 % Vs. 49.3±5.7 %).On the other hand, most of the individuals revealed progressively dilated atrium syndrome till 6-9 days induction, and the individuals with syndrome would die soon. And we found the myocardium wall of ventricle of zebrafish inducible transgenic line (D12) have ventricular muscle wall irregular thickening(5.4∼24.3μm).This phenotype is like the eccentric hypertrophy of human dilated cardiomyopathy. In conclusion, induction of heart-specific truncated form cTnC competing with normal cTnC activity would lead to increased end-diastolic ventricular volume、increased end-systolic ventricular volume、decreased ejection fraction and heart wall thickness disproportionate, these all are the symptom of dilated cardiomyopathy. We think that zebrafish inducible transgenic line is a potential animal model for cardiomyopathy research.

The interpenetrating-network-structured (IPN-structured) epoxy resin/vulcanized CTBN composites were prepared. By in situ heat-curing the homogeneous mixture of o-cresol novolac epoxy resin (CNE), 4,4’-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS), carboxyl-terminated butadiene acrylonitrile rubber (CTBN), 2-methyl imidazole (2-MI), and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) via respective sequential and simultaneous processes involving chemically induced phase separation (CIPS), the nanocomposites with different morphologies were afforded. The epoxy network was obtained by step-growth polyaddition polymerization of CNE and DDS catalyzed by 2-MI, while the vulcanized CTBN network was obtained by free radical polymerization of CTBN initiated by BPO. The morphologies and properties of the IPN-structured nanocomposites from the two different processes were investigated and analyzed by DSC, IR, TEM, SAXS, DMA, Instron, and TGA...etc. It was found that for the nanocomposites, SIM-IPN (simultaneous-IPN) series, obtained from the simultaneous process, the nanometer-sized domain of the dispersed vulcanized CTBN in the CNE/DDS matrix was smaller and evener than that of nanocomposites, SEQ-IPN (sequential-IPN) series, obtained from the sequential process. The properties such as dynamic mechanical property, thermal resistance, and tensile toughness of the SIM-IPN series were improved and enhanced more significantly than that of the SEQ-IPN series and the conventional blends.

As said by Brett King, "Banking is no longer a place to go, but something you do", people around the globe does not rely on counter service but online banking and mobile payment, signalling the era of transformation from bank 3.0 to 4.0. Non-traditional banks with supports from a lot of people exploit such new technologies as cloud computing, big data, mobile applications and social networks to bring about a revolution in the financial industry. Among the 6,6000 billionaires in Taiwan, 43% are female and this percentage stands on top of the rank of percentage in Asian female billionaire. 31.5% Taiwan female deposit income in their bank account, with 15.7% higher than that of the female from 12 market investigations. In addition to the deposit behaviour, 70% female prefer cash regarding their investment portfolio, which is higher than the worldwide 56% regarding the same portfolio combination. Also, there is 75% female in Taiwan suggest income as an important element for them, while there are only 50% of female worldwide hold the same concept. (ETtoday, 2013) This study focus on the 145 female clients in CTBC Bank, scrutinising with 14 different investment instruments and analysing with a market basket with coded numbers for individual investment items. The results are meant to provide a better investment combination, and to further used as a reference for financial professionals. As considering the best financial combinations, the female clients performed to be able to accept high-risk assets, breaking the stereotypes about the conservative female assumption among banking industry and financial professionals. This stereotype prohibits the investment professionals from giving high-risk portfolios and commodity loans to female clients; on the contrary, professionals tend to provide protective plans to the female clients. This result could be used for further reference in future professional suggestions.

CTBN-modified epoxy composites, CNE/DDS/I-CTBN, with an interpenetrating-networks (IPN) structure and a nanometer-sized morphology were prepared through a chemically induced phase separation of homogeneous resin, CNE/DDS/CTBN/2-MI, obtained by mixing a carboxyl-terminated butadiene–acrylonitrile liquid rubber (CTBN) with a solution of o-cresol novolac epoxy resin (CNE), 4,4′-diamino diphenyl sulfone (DDS), and 2-methyl imidazole (2-MI), in the presence of peroxide such as benzoyl peroxide (BPO) and dicumyl peroxide (DCP). The IPN morphologies of composites were identified by small-angle X-ray scattering through measuring the value of the specific interfacial surface area Ssp between the cured CNE/DDS matrix and the vulcanized CTBN and investigated with a TEM . Properties such as fracture toughness, internal stress, thermal property, dynamic mechanical property and T-peel strength of these CNE/DDS/I-CTBN were studied in detail, and were compared with those of a conventional composites, CNE/DDS/CTBN, obtained by dispersing CTBN particles in a cross-linked CNE/DDS matrix. It was found from the results of experiments that fracture toughness and decomposition temperature of CNE/DDS/I-CTBN were 40% amd 19℃ higher than that of CNE/DDS/CTBN, while the internal stress of the former was 36% lower than that of the latter, while the T-peel strength of the former was also 20% higher than that of the latter. It was also found that, through the SAXS analysis, the decrease of internal stress and the increase of T-peel strength for CNE/DDS/I-CTBN were affected significantly by the degree of interpenetrating of the two networks.

With the rise of financial technology, technology is constantly changing the banking industry. Electronic payment and mobile payment are the policies of countries planning digital banks. The development of cashless is the key. However, in Taiwan, the density of ATM is not decreasing, and ATM is an important strategy in Taiwan. It has also developed many Cardless methods such as “Cardless with mobile phones” and “Cardless with finger veins”. This study is based on qualitative respondents and in-depth interviews from the top three banks in Taiwan, Cathay United Bank, CTBC Bank, and Taishin International Commercial Bank. This study have 10 interviewers, which integrate financial technology and bank digitalization related information, as well as service innovation prototypes and innovation adoption theories. The study will discuss how user motivation, user experience, and how mobile banking affect the ATM Cardless users. In conclusion, it was found that the respondents mostly be first time user of ATM Cardless when they forgot to take the card. The users most have a positive experience, and a few users who have Cardless with the finger vein experience poor experience due to the sensory problem. Most of the respondents did not use ATM Cardless withdrawal as the main way of withdrawing money. The reason is that users still have the habit of using cards to withdraw money. There is no absolute need to replace it. The practical recommendations of this study include: change the application method to require no financial card to apply to improve the motivation for initial use, increase the connectivity between mobile banking and ATM Cardless, improve the sensing function of Cardless with finger vein , and increase the security of ATM Cardless and made clear to the user.

Rapid globalization in recent decades has allowed teams of major sports leagues around the world to recruit elite international talent, boosting the leagues’ overall competitiveness and the quality of games. The import of foreign athletes necessitates the existence and assistance of team interpreters. However, few past interpreting studies investigated the work of sports team interpreters. The present study explores sports team interpreters by examining the actual practice of interpreting service and the roles of team interpreters of the CTBC Brothers in the sole professional sports league in Taiwan, the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). Field observation was conducted in the 2019 spring training camp of the Brothers, and 16 interviews with team interpreters, players, and coaches were also held. Results show that team interpreters not only serve as language intermediaries for the primary interlocutors, they are also active participants in the interpreted dialogues. They play the roles of assistant coach, emotion filter, team administrative staff, and personal assistant. The interpreters sometimes add or filter out information, and settle disputes between players and coaches. In addition, they also need to do administrative work and take care of foreign members’ life off the field. The results suggest that team interpreters’ role and responsibility are beyond the conventional definition of interpreter and translator.

Since the financial Asian Cup started, it has been an inevitable trend in the financial industry to globalize their business territory. In particular, the Asia-Pacific region is the industry’s important beachhead. In order to accelerate the pace of internationalization, mergers and acquisitions were the main tools used by the industry. The CTBC Holding have continued to pursue new mergers and acquisitions in recent years. Two major events were the mergers and acquisitions of The Tokyo Star Bank, Ltd. and Taiwan Life Corp., which were awarded by the Taiwan M&A and Private Equity Council (MAPECT). This study is based on the case of CTBC Bank’s acquisition of Tokyo Star Bank. In June 5, 2014 CTBC Bank completed 100% equity delivery, at the total price of JPY 52.97 billion, equivalent to NT$ 15.89 billion. This initiative is not only the case of a foreign bank’s acquisition of a Japanese local bank, but also the largest ever acquisition of a Taiwanese enterprise to buyout a Japanese company. CTBC Bank’s brand value was listed in the well - known British brand value research institutions, Brand Finance’s Top 500 Banking Brands. In addition, the CTBC Bank’s ranking is steadily rising. In 2016, CTBC Bank’s brand value ranked at the 83rd. among the world’s top 100 banks. This paper uses Dr. Hann-Tarn Jeng’s 8-Cross Business Model and Dr. Yoshikuni Hirose’s Brand Valuation Model published with members of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to explore the changes of business models and its brand value before and after CTBC Bank’s acquisition of Tokyo Star Bank. Whenever an enterprise implements mergers and acquisitions, its business territory will be expanded, and its business model will change. By applying the Hirose Brand Valuation Model, the brand value of CTBC Bank became nearly six times before its acquiring the Tokyo Star Bank.

In view of the trend of declining net remuneration rates of domestic financial institutions, various financial institutions all want to enhance efficiency through integration. In 2000, the government introduced the "Financial Institutions Merger Act", which aims to increase the merger of financial intermediaries and alleviate the excessive number of financial institutions such as banks, insurance and brokerage firms. In 2001, the “Financial Holding Company Law” was further promoted, allowing the financial control company to provide financial services such as banking, insurance and securities to customers. At the same time, financial institutions are encouraged to lay out overseas markets to enhance their competitiveness. The Financial Holding Company Law was promulgated and implemented in 2001. In 2002, the financial holding companies were established one after another, which led to the integration of banking, securities and insurance finance business. All major banks have actively established insurance companies to expand their insurance business. However, the performance of the bank insurance channel was not conspicuous at first. It only accounted for less than 20% of the new contractual premium income of the whole life insurance market in Taiwan. In 2005, it only exceeded 30%, and in 2008, it captured nearly 50% of the market share. The performance of bank insurance with financial holding company has grown the most. In 2008, the US financial turmoil swept the global financial market, causing foreign insurance companies to withdraw from the Taiwan market with the financial tsunami, accounting standards, and low interest rate international factors. It also created the opportunity and atmosphere for the merger and integration of Taiwan's insurance industry. In the process of pursuing resource integration and economies of scale in M&A activities, what is the thinking point of M&A objectives, industries and merger conditions, and the formation of strategies? This case uses CTBC Financial Holding Company to expand the scale of financial holding company assets and build a second take the profit engine strategy and conduct the insurance company merger and acquisition case as an example to discuss the M&A strategy and object of the financial control. In addition to the analysis of the business development of the financial holding company and bank insurance at that time, the author also analyzed the rationality of the merger and acquisition conditions of the merger and the financial synergy after 3 years of merger and acquisition, and found that the merger was indeed for a successful M&A case. It has created the third place in the domestic financial holding company industry of CTBC Financial Holding Company and its profitability is also in the forefront of the industry.
