Fifty years ago, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross' On Death and Dying provided a model of dying as stages of coping with impending loss of one’s life. She sought to give dying hospital patients a voice; the result gave a new model for speaking about dying and grieving. This paper examines the model and religious appropriations and crticism of her theme of death as loss.

First principles calculations are performed to investigate the thermodynamical stability, dynamical, mechanical, electronic and magnetic properties of CrTiCoZ (Z = Al/Si) novel quaternary Heusler alloys. A Y-type III atomic configuration is found to be the most stable structure for both compounds. The lattice constant values obtained using GGA-PBE approach are 5.9368 Å and 5.7853 Å for CrTiCoAl and CrTiCoSi, respectively. Using the value of elastic moduli for both the compounds, the computed Pugh’s ratio value is 2.5 and 2.7 for CrTiCoAl and CrTiCoSi, respectively, which is higher than 1.75, indicating both the compounds are ductile in nature. The melting temperatures of both compounds are as high as 2142 K and 2420 K for CrTiCoAl and CrTiCoSi, respectively. The electronic structure calculations, using the GGA-PBE approach, show a half metallic behavior of CrTiCoAl. The spin-down channel exhibits a direct band gap of 0.15 eV, whereas the spin-up channel is metallic, making CrTiCoAl a half metallic ferromagnet with 100% spin polarization and an appreciable magnetic moment of −2 μB. However, CrTiCoSi is found to be semi-metallic in the spin-down channel and metallic in the spin-up channel, which leads to a spin polarization of 99.7% with a non-integer magnetic moment of −0.99 μB. The Curie temperature of CrTiCoAl is well above the room temperature (385 K), whereas that of CrTiCoSi is below the room temperature (203 K). Thus, CrTiCoAl is found to be more promising than CrTiCoSi as a spin injector in spintronic devices.

Em um primeiro momento apresentamos a dimenso dessas teorias, a anlise que fazem sobre o papel da escola no mundo contemporneo e a presena dos diferentes autores no debate. Objetivamos explicitar a contribuio que essas teorias trouxeram para o debate educacional e, especificamente, para o debate curricular. A seguir, apresentamos o currculo oficial paulista, suas diretrizes, premissas e fundamentos. Este artigo tem o objetivo de apresentar a reviso de literatura sobre o Programa Universidade para Todos (Prouni) e os programas de financiamento para educao superior no Brasil, quais sejam, Programa de Apoio ao Plano de Reestruturao e Expanso das Universidades Federais (Reuni) e Fundo de Financiamento Estudantil (Fies), no intuito de conhecer o que se tem discutido acerca do tema financiamento para educao superior ao longo dos ltimos anos no Brasil. Os resultados indicam que os referidos programas enfrentam contradies e dividem a opinio dos pesquisadores. Os resultados apontaram que nas instituies privadas a qualidade est posta no reconhecimento pelo mercado de trabalho; as instituies pblicas encaram a qualidade resultada da produo cientfica; j as instituies confessionais tm a qualidade refletida na formao plena do cidado cristo e na possibilidade de formao poltica do homem. Mesmo com crticas ao Sinaes, os gestores admitem que os resultados das avaliaes tenham efeito direto e s vezes positivo no encaminhamento da gesto acadmica.

Abstract:

Introduo: Fraqueza muscular um dos principais problemas nos pacientes em ventilao mecnica invasiva e, para atenuar esta co-morbidade a Eletroestimulao Neuromuscular (EENM) vm sendo estudada. Objetivos: verificar os efeitos da EENM na mobilidade diafragmtica e associao entre esta e msculos acessrios da respirao em pacientes crticos. Mtodos: Ensaio clnico randomizado (ECR), 24 pacientes ventilados mecanicamente, randomizados em: interveno (G1) e placebo (G2). EENM aplicada 1 vez/dia, 30 minutos, nos msculos peitorais e reto abdominais utilizando ultrassonografia para anlise de espessura. Resultados: diferena significativa (G1) na mobilidade diafragmtica expiratria (p=0,015), correlao direta entre reto abdominal e peitoral (rs=0,607 e p=0,048), reto abdominal e incurso diafragmtica (rs = 0,609 e p=0,047), bem como a mobilidade diafragmtica (entre incurso e excurso) (rs=0,920 e p0,001) e da excurso diafragmtica e espessura diafragmtica (rs=0,607 e p=0,048). Concluso: Nesta amostra houve melhora na mobilidade diafragmtica e correlao entre musculaturas estudadas, sugerindo preservao da mobilidade diafragmtica no grupo eletroestimulado. Abstract:

In Dobbs Case, the U.S. Supreme Court(hereinafter “the Court”) ruled that abortion was not a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution. The Dobbs Case contains debates on fundamental and important issues raised in constitutional interpretation. Interpreting the “liberty” of Due Prcess Clause, the Court emphasized the text and history at the time of enactment of the 14th Amendment. That approach is similar to so-called originalist interpretation. On the other hand, the dissenting opinion argues that the Constitution has steadily developed through important constitutional principles, American history and tradition, and the gradual evolution of the Court’s precedents. Several crticisms of originalism are equivalent to the Court’s opinion. The Court overruled Roe and Casey on the ground that the Roe was egregiously wrong from the start, while the dissenting opinion stated that the Court violates the principle of stare decisis and the rule of law for overruling Roe even though there has been no legal or factual change except for the change in the composition of the Court. Though the fact that Roe has been consistently challenged over the past 50 years shows that Roe is not so-called super precedent, it also shows that Roe has been repeatedly confirmed as a good precedent. Overruling Roe means abolishing a fundamental right that has been recognized so far, not recognizing a new fundamental right or expanding the scope of a existing fundamental right. In this regards, the Court should have provided a stronger justification for overruling Roe. The Court held that it had no authority to determine the issue of abortion because the Constitution is neutral on abortion, and that the resolution of this issue should be left to the people and their elected representatives. The Court is relying on merely a majority-ruled democracy, and it is inconsistent with another important concept of democracy, constitutional democracy that requires constitutional protection of the minority from the tyranny of the majority.

Abstract:

O estudo objetivou a proposio e teste de um modelo predititivo da propenso de clientes de concessionrias do setor de energia eltrica proposio de aes judiciais. Investigaram-se os efeitos: do perfil do cliente; dos motivos crticos de reclamao; e do histrico de aes administrativas, na propenso proposio de aes judiciais. O corpo terico do paradigma da desconfirmao de expectativas foi utilizado como referencial terico do estudo. Adotou-se uma abordagem exploratria para o desenvolvimento e teste do modelo predititivo. A tcnica de rvore de Classificao foi escolhida para operacionalizar o modelo. O mtodo especificado neste estudo para a criao da rvore de deciso foi o CHAID (Chi Square Interaction Detector). A anlise dos dados permite concluir que a propenso proposio de uma ao judicial no depende exclusivamente da natureza do problema enfrentado pelo cliente, mas do seu perfil e da sua trajetria de relacionamento com a concessionria. Os resultados do presente estudo adicionam suporte emprico ao corpo terico do paradigma da desconfirmao de expectativas, mais especificamente, no que diz respeito Teoria da Satisfao, Teoria da Atribuio e Teoria da Justia e Equidade. A principal contribuio gerencial do estudo reside na proposio de um modelo preditivo que permite atribuir a cada cliente uma probabilidade de proposio de ao judicial, o que possibilita a adoo de prticas antecipatrias por parte da concessionria, objetivando melhor servir ao pblico.

Objetivo do estudo: identificar como est representada a mulher plus size nas campanhas publicitrias de lingerie no Brasil, avaliando se tal representao contribui com o ativismo plus size, a luta das mulheres acima do peso por incluso social. Metodologia/abordagem: recorreu-se Anlise Crtica do Discurso, segundo a qual foram analisadas 27 publicidades da marca Duloren. Principais resultados: quatro discursos foram revelados discurso de positividade, discurso do apelo do produto Duloren, discurso do apelo sexual e discurso de afirmao plus size. A mulher plus size representada por estes discursos uma mulher bem resolvida, independente, segura e confiante, constituindo um esforo na mudana social engendrada pelo ativismo plus size. Destaca-se, ainda, o papel da publicidade no debate acerca de uma nova forma de olhar o corpo gordo, livre de preconceitos, de expresses pejorativas ou rtulos. Contribuies tericas/metodolgicas: espera-se contribuir com o desenvolvimento da abordagem crtica nos estudos de marketing, buscando no conhecimento das teorias crticas elementos que questionem as prticas de marketing, a forma como a propaganda desenvolvida e o impacto disso para o consumidor. Relevncia/originalidade: os achados buscam suprir uma lacuna de pesquisa no tocante aos consumidores plus size, pouco explorados na pesquisa de marketing e, quando abordados, tem-se enfatizada a perspectiva organizacional, onde so concebidos como nicho de mercado. Estes esforos vo ao encontro de um marketing mais humano, que requer o pesquisador ao lado do consumidor, e no apenas das marcas e das empresas em nossas anlises.

Mevlüt Süleymanli, born in 1943, is one of the significant living representatives of the contemporary Azerbaijan novelism. He is a bright person who combines talents of a novelist, short story writer, scriptwriter, radio and television producer. He entered Azerbaijan literature in 1964 with his poem “Ellerim” (“My Hands”) which was published in the newspaper “Azerbaycan Gençleri” (“Azerbaijan Youth”). Süleymanli who was living in a village, enriched his literary works with his observations of those years. He successfully used elements of folk literature and folklore. In his works he masterfully showed his love to Azerbaijan people, language, culture and literature. In his works he mostly criticized social and ethic aspects and Soviet system.In this work, the novel “Armenian Named Letters” which expresses the view of Süleymanlı on Armenians in the form of novel, was crticised, analysed and evaluated. Özet1943 yılında dünyaya gelen Mevlüt Süleymanlı, çağdaş Azerbaycan romancılığının yaşayan önemli temsilcilerindendir. Romancı, hikâyeci, senaryo yazarı, radyo ve televizyon yapımcısı gibi çok sayıda niteliği bünyesinde barındıran bir aydındır. Edebiyat dünyasına 1964 yılında Azerbaycan Gençleri gazetesinde yayımlanan “Ellerim” şiiri ile adım atmıştır. Köyde yaşayan Süleymanlı, bu yıllara ait gözlemlerini edebi eserlerinde zengin malzeme halinde sunmuştur. Halk edebiyatı ve folklora ait unsurları başarıyla kullandığı görülür. Azerbaycan halkına, diline, kültür ve edebiyatına olan sevgisini eserlerinde ustaca dile getirmiştir. Kaleme aldığı ürünlerinde toplumsal ve ahlaki tenkitlere ağırlık vermiş, Sovyet sistemine eleştiriler yöneltmiştir. Pek çok ünlü roman ve hikâyenin yazarı olan Süleymanlı, son eseri Ermeni Adındaki Harfler adlı romanıyla edebiyat dünyasında adından çokça söz ettirmektedir. Türklerle Ermenilerin kaotik ilişkilerinin gündemden düşmediği günümüzde Ermeni Adındaki Harfler romanı üzerinde çok yönlü yorumlar yapılmaktadır.Çalışmamızda Mevlüt Süleymanlı’nın Ermenilere bakışını roman formu içinde dile getiren Ermeni Adındaki Harfler romanı incelenmiş, üzerinde tahlil, yorum, açıklama ve değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır.

Ao incorporarem dimenses poltico-sociais, as Constituies promulgadas aps o segundo ps-guerra alteraram substancialmente a forma como o Estado de Direito passou a ser compreendido, acrescentando-lhe uma face democrtica. Ao Estado, agora compreendido como Estado Democrtico de Direito, passou a incumbir a obrigao de promover a igualdade material, por meio da implementao de polticas pblicas, destinadas concretizao do programa constitucional. No entanto, sobrevive ainda a velha concepo epistemolgica acerca da compreenso da Constituio como lei reguladora das estruturas formais do Estado, carente de fora normativa. Estabelece-se, assim, um dos mais importantes debates na seara do direito constitucional, entre os partidrios da Constituio Dirigente, compromissria e transformadora, e seus crticos, defensores de uma ampla discricionariedade legislativa e governamental.

Abstract:

The field of linguistics focuses on the spoken incarnation of language and considers written phenomena as an imperfect approximation of the former. The author argues that present understanding of punctuation as a subsystem of human language is inadequate, and that even when studies examine punctuation from a linguistic standpoint, they emphasize modern written language and American English in particular. It is, however, quite possible to describe the behavior of punctuations with the same methodology that was until recently reserved for spoken language. Just as language develops over time and changes from place to place, so too does punctuation. This paper argues for the compatibility between recent developments in computational linguistics' approaches to punctuation and textual criticsm that attends to punctuation in poetry. A full understanding of its conventions is crticial for a proper interpretation of meaning. Furthermore, the author shows that the relevance of these studies to literary analysis remains unexplored. Nevertheless, with the developing techniques made possible through computational linguistics, the potential for in-depth study is expanding.

IntroductionThe safety outcomes of endovascular therapy for intracranial artery stenosis in a real-world stetting are largely unknown. The Clinical Registration Trial of Intracranial Stenting for Patients with Symptomatic Intracranial Artery Stenosis (CRTICAS) was a prospective, multicentre, real-world registry designed to assess these outcomes and the impact of centre experience.Methods1140 severe, symptomatic intracranial arterial stenosis (ICAS) patients treated with endovascular therapy were included from 26 centres, further divided into three groups according to the annual centre volume of intracranial angioplasty and stent placement procedures over 2 years: (1) high volume for ≥25 cases/year; (2) moderate volume for 10–25 cases/year and (3) low volume for <10 cases/year.ResultsThe rate of 30-day stroke, transient ischaemic attack or death was 9.7% (111), with 5.4%, 21.1% and 9.7% in high-volume, moderate-volume and low-volume centres, respectively (p<0.05). Multivariable logistic regression confirmed high-volume centres had a significantly lower primary endpoint compared with moderate-volume centres (OR=0.187, 95% CI: 0.056 to 0.627; p≤0.0001), while moderate-volume and low-volume centres showed no significant difference (p=0.8456).ConclusionCompared with the preceding randomised controlled trials, this real-world, prospective, multicentre registry shows a lower complication rate of endovascular treatment for symptomatic ICAS. Non-uniform utilisation in endovascular technology, institutional experience and patient selection in different volumes of centres may have an impact on overall safety of this treatment.

Abstract:

Mircea Eliade is, or at least has been, the most heavily crticised scholar of religions. A number of critics have been discontented with his 'uncritical' way of using data to illustrate or assert his insights. It has been said that Eliade's presuppositions about the nature of reality and religion are not scientific but metaphysical or theological. Eliade's sympathisers, on the other hand, have tried to show that he does after all have a method, and that a careful reading demonstrates that either his presuppositions are no more unscientific that those of anyone else or they can be rethought in a scientifically acceptable way. My starting point is both sympathetic and critical. My question is, what is Eliade actually attempting to understand when he states that he wants to understand religion at its own level? He himself states that he wants to unmask the 'revelations' of the sacred, or - as he also says - the transcendent, and their significance for modern man, who has lost his comprehension of both the sacred and its meaning. This he can do, he argues, by recapturing the way in which 'primitive' and 'archaic' cultures and ancient and modern traditions outside mainstream religions have used symbols to establish a patterned, harmonised view of the world, or - as Eliade prefers to say - reality. Both Eliade's critics and his sympathisers presumably agree that Eliade's presuppositions include statements about the 'essence' of religion, about the nature of reality, and about the ways religion operates, or should operate, in human life, or mode-of-being-in-the-world; they also agree that one of Eliade's main concern in religious studies is with symbols. In my article, I deal with these four points (essence, reality, mode-of-being and symbols), proposing a reading of Eliade which emphasises the scholar's encounter with the subject and not the 'essence' of the matter under study. In my conclusion I suggest that studying the ways in which humans use symbols, which they connect with the 'real' to construct a 'mode-of-being' - or, as William Paden put it, a 'world' - is one way of going 'beyond' Eliade.
