Abstract:
Context: In India, abrasions are usually dated by the naked-eye observation of gross changes. Various researches consider the dating of abrasion by naked-eye examination as an uncertain and variable method. This may have signifi cant medical and legal ramifi cations. To improve the Aims: accuracy of the dating of abrasion, histopathology profi ling has been suggested. To estimate the age of abrasion by histopathology examination. Settings and Design: This cross-sectional study was conducted from 1st January 2021 to 30th June 2022. Methods and Materials: Total 102 abrasions from subjects aged 4 to 80 years were correlated with the time frame of the occurrence of diff erent microscopic changes that follow the abrasion. Abrasions ranging from 0.02 hours to >336 hours were studied, and based on the duration of infl iction, abrasions were divided into 10 groups. The representative area of abrasion with adjacent normal skin with an underlying soft tissue of thickness 0.5 cm to 1 cm was dissected and a control sample was taken of intact skin and preserved in 10% formalin solution for fi xation. The specimen was processed, and a histopathology slide was prepared and examined. Routine haematoxylin & eosin (H&E) staining done. Van Gieson’s stain was used to confi rm the presence of collagen. Statistical analysis used: Data were analysed using SPSS version 20.0 software. P<0.0 was considered signifi cant. Descriptive data were expressed as frequency; for the age group of abrasions (quantitative data), mean and SD were calculated; Pearson’s chi-square test of independence was used to compare the microscopic changes in abrasion with the age of infl iction. Results: A significant relationship was observed between the age of abrasion and histopathology fi ndings (X281=552.92, P<0.001). Conclusions: The reliability and accuracy of dating of abrasion increases if a histopathology examination is performed along with gross examination. To opine the age of injury accurately, the autopsy surgeon should subject the samples to histopathology examination.

Abstract:
Compatibility testing before blood transfusion is very crucial. This procedure to prevent transfusion reactions due to blood group incompatibility or irregular antibodies. Cross-matching to ensure that the blood safe for the recipient. There are two results in the cross-matching, namely compatible and incompatible. This study aims to determine the inappropriate results of cross-matching at Blood Transfusion Service of the Indonesian Red Cross, Kulon Progo Regency. This study used a quantitative descriptive research design with a retrospective approach. The samples used in this study were 78 incompatible samples in Blood Transfusion Service of the Indonesian Red Cross, Kulon Progo Regency. The sampling technique used was the total population. Methods of data analysis using descriptive analysis. The results show incompatibilities of most compatible cross tests found in minor and auto control (96.1%) with male gender frequency (35.9%) and women (64.1%). The most blood type that has incompatibilities is blood type O (43.3%). The most Diagnosis is anemia (76.9%), and the most components are PRC (88.4%). The most incompatible types are minor and auto control and the most commonly encountered in women, O blood type, anemia, and components of PRC.

Abstract:
Language is a powerful tool and essential for human communication. Despite this criticality, linguistic terms often produce different percepts across differing individuals. Such variations can, and do lead to miscommunication and confusion. To assess the qualitative degree of such ambiguity, we look to quantify how different probability terms were characterized based upon an individual’s personality and culture. Thus, we evaluated the probability ratings of 35 participants in the United States and 50 participant in Germany on sixty-four terms such as “always,” “certain,” “unusual” etc. Participants rated the likelihood of these descriptions on a 0-100 scale. Additionally, participants were asked to rate the strength of statements that included terms such as “safety,” “guarantee,” “health” etc. Results indicated that there is a wide range of these probability ratings between participants. Additionally, cultural differences were found: German participants score higher on low-probability ratings, whereas Americans score higher on high-probability ratings. The implications of these findings for communications between individuals and between humans and machines are discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract Physicians may need to defend their impairment evaluation opinions during cross-examination, and, in contrast to direct examination during which leading questions cannot be asked, during cross-examination the laws of evidence allow the questioning attorney to pose leading questions that are designed to elicit more information than a “yes” or “no” answer. A witness being cross-examined with leading questions typically may respond “yes,” “no,” or “I don't know,” but physicians should not volunteer information during examination because this may disclose inappropriate information. Similarly, physicians should avoid vague terms such as “I guess,” “I believe,” or “It's possible.” If the witness does not know the answer, the proper response is “I don't know,” or “I don't remember.” The expert's professional qualifications, expert opinion, and reasoning in forming that opinion are all subject to challenge, and the expert must be qualified to perform permanent impairment evaluations and prepare a report with supportable conclusions. The article includes examples of cross-examinations based on principles from the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (AMA Guides), Chapters 1 and 2. For example, evaluators may be criticized for erroneously using the terms guidelines instead of guides and disability instead of impairment; physicians who use impairment and disability interchangeably should expect close cross-examination. Evaluating physicians also may be challenged regarding their status as “independent and unbiased” examiners based on having seen the patient only once or, as a treating physician, on numerous occasions.
