Abstract:
Universal discrepancy parameters of approximations of discretely specified dependencies by analytical functions and search criteria for optimal values of their coefficients, as well as analysis of features of their application are described. Discrepancy parameters of approximations, which do not depend on the ranges of variation of the values of functions and the number of points of a discretely specified dependence, are proposed. They can be effective for objectively comparing the quality of approximations of any dependencies by any functions. Approximations of a discretely specified dependence of the mathematical expectation of the equivalent electrical resistance of a layer of aluminum granules during spark-erosion dispersion in water on the instantaneous values of the discharge current are carried out. As approximating functions, we chose a power function with an exponent factor –1 and a function based on exponential. Using the criteria of the least approximation error, the optimal values of the coefficients of both approximating functions are founded. It is shown in which cases it is advisable to use the combined search criteria for the optimal values of the coefficients of the approximating functions, and in which are enough simple one-component ones. Abstract:
Decision problems related to the wind energy require considering many, often interrelated and dependent on each other, criteria. To solve such problems, decision systems based on Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methods are usually used. Unfortunately, most methods assume independence between the criteria, therefore, their application in decision problems related to the wind energy is debatable. This paper presents the use of the Analytic Network Process (ANP) method to solve a decision problem consisting in selecting the location and design of a wind farm. The use of the ANP method allows capturing the complexity of the decision problem by taking into consideration dependencies between criteria. As part of the verification of the solution, the results of the ANP method were compared with those of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, which uses only hierarchical dependencies between criteria. The conducted verification showed that the inter-criteria dependencies may have a significant influence on the obtained solution. On the basis of the conducted sensitivity analysis and the research into robustness of the rankings to the rank reversal phenomenon, it has been found out that the ranking obtained with the use of the ANP is characterized by a higher quality than by means of the AHP.

Abstract:
During the last decade, with the rapid development of information technology, the immense volume of data poses a challenge to decision-makers. We use a combined dynamic decision-making approach based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to select the best supplier. In this paper, we discuss the interaction between criteria that can lead to expanding our proposed dynamic framework to consider the inner dependencies among criteria. The main contributions are: (1) identifying the most important criteria of supplier selection in a steel bar manufacturer in Taiwan; (2) proposing a simple and rapid analysis of the appropriate supplier selection evaluation framework; and (3) using the AHP and transformation matrix to present the inner dependence among the criteria.

Abstract:
The aim of the paper is to present one possibility of how to model and solve a resource oriented critical path problem. As a starting point, a single criteria model for critical path finding is shortly mentioned. Lately, more criteria functions for this model are defined. If any project task uses more resources for its completion, its duration usually depends on only one of them – other resources are not fully used. In here defined multiple criteria approach, these dependencies are not assumed. Each criteria function is derived from a theoretical task duration based on a number of units of only one resource and on its importance. Using either linear programming model with aggregated criteria function or simple Excel calculation with Microsoft Project software support, a so-called compromise critical path can be found. On this path, some resources are overallocated and some are underallocated but the total sum of all underallocations and all overallocations is minimized. All resources are used as effectively as possible and the project is as short as possible too.

Abstract:
Recently, P.\ Wocjan and M.\ Horodecki [Open Syst.\ Inf.\ Dyn.\ 12, 331 (2005)] gave a characterization of combinatorially independent permutation separability criteria. Combinatorial independence is a necessary condition for permutations to yield truly independent criteria meaning that no criterion is strictly stronger that any other. In this paper we observe that some of these criteria are still dependent and analyze why these dependencies occur. To remove them we introduce an improved necessary condition and give a complete classification of the remaining permutations. We conjecture that the remaining class of criteria only contains truly independent permutation separability criteria. Our conjecture is based on the proof that for two, three and four parties all these criteria are truly independent and on numerical verification of their independence for up to 8 parties. It was commonly believed that for three parties there were 9 independent criteria, here we prove that there are exactly 6 independent criteria for three parties and 22 for four parties.

Abstract:
In multiple criteria decision making (MCDM), the even swaps method uses the relationships of criteria to make trade-offs but the burdens of experts are heavy; the linear programming technique for multidimensional analysis of preference (LINMAP) method cannot deal with the inter-dependencies among criteria but the cognitive burdens of experts are low. Taking the advantages of both these methods, this study proposes a criterion utility conversion (CUC) technique to solve probabilistic linguistic MCDM problems given that the probabilistic linguistic term set (PLTS) can reflect the psychology of experts when making evaluations. The utility conversion process is first proposed based on the marginal utilities of criteria. Then, the criterion preference ratios of experts are refined from the utility conversion process. Based on the criterion preference ratios and the operations of PLTSs, the adjusted probabilistic linguistic expected values of alternatives are calculated. The consistency and inconsistency indexes of alternatives and criteria are defined to set up the linear programming used to work out the criterion preference ratios. An illustration about the selection of emergency logistics supplier is given to validate the proposed method. The comparative analysis indicates the low cognitive burden, high stability, and strong applicability of the proposed method.

Abstract:
The InterCriteria Analysis (ICrA) is based on the mathematical formalisms of index matrices and intuitionistic fuzzy sets. It has been elaborated to discern possible similarities in the behavior of criteria pairs when multiple objects are considered, allowing also the accounting of information uncertainty. The focus of this study is to validate the applicability of ICrA over a large set of ECG criteria extracted for arrhythmia analysis and to evaluate its ability to support the pre-selection of criteria that could be further involved in decision making procedures. ICrA is applied over 88 ECG criteria (resulting in 3828 criteria pairs) calculated for 8528 ECGs from PhysioNet/CinC Challenge 2017 database. Three criteria pairs show strong positive consonance, another 26—positive consonance, while another 15 are in negative consonance. ICrA also reveals lack of dependencies in 98 criteria pairs. The correspondence between our observations (high degrees of agreement/disagreement and lack of dependencies) and our expectations based on knowledge of the principles involved in the computation of the ECG criteria validates the application of ICrA for reliable evaluation of the relation between different criteria. This potential of ICrA to highlight useful relations between ECG criteria makes it suitable in the ECG pre-processing stage for criteria pre-selection. Thus, optimization of the feature space could be achieved together with minimization of the computations’ complexity.

Abstract:
In this paper we propose a combined AHP-IBA model for selecting the best SAP consultant for an SAP ERP project. The goal of the SAP Project Manager is to choose the best consultant, the one who is able to implement standard SAP functionalities with quality and on time. When making a decision on the basis of multiple criteria, the traditional Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method does not take into account the fact that attributes may correlate, assuming that there are no dependencies between them. However, the dependencies of the attributes can often be used to model important knowledge for multiple criteria decision analysis. We propose an extension to the traditional AHP method by applying Interpolative realization of Boolean algebra (IBA), using AHP to determine the criteria weights, and IBA to model the logical interactions among criteria. The research conducted on ERP consultant selection suggests that the decision making process is modelled more accurately if logical interactions between attributes are modelled before applying AHP.

Abstract:
Tiling is a widely used technique to solve the problems of the efficient use of multilevel memory and optimize data exchanges when developing both sequential and parallel programs. This paper investigates the problem of obtaining global dependencies, i.e. informational dependencies between tiles. The problem is solved in the context of parametrized hexagonal tiling in application to algorithms with a two-dimensional computational domain. The paper includes a formalized definition of the hexagonal tile and the criteria for dense coverage of the computational domain with hexagonal tiles. Herein, we have formulated a statement that permits to obtain all global dependencies between tiles. Formulas are constructed for the determination of sets of iterations of hexagonal tiles generating these dependencies. The sets of iterations that generate global dependencies are obtained in the form of polyhedra with an explicit expression of their boundaries.

Abstract:
Purpose. To increase output of traffic network while deriving new dependencies of transport flow characteristics upon control law parameters and using them to develop an algorithm to automate a process of the transport flow coordinated regulation within towns and cities. Methodology. The aggregated simulation model, describing processes of road traffic formation within a local section of urban traffic system, is used for the analysis of dependencies to assess quality of transport flow control upon correcting conditions being parameters of traffic cycles within intersections. The abovementioned should involve a PID controller as well as a negative feedback idea to automate control of the road traffic process. In this context, control criterion is applied to determine critical flow intensity if a traffic jam occurs. The criterion makes it possible to identify changes in the road traffic nature. To determine the optimal settings of the PID controller for different stocks of the stability control system, the standard deviation of the controlled variable from the set value and the mean static control error are defined. The derived dependencies of control quality criteria upon a law of flow regulation have helped develop a new algorithm of the coordinated automated road traffic control within a local section of urban traffic section using standard control action. Simulation experiments made it possible to assess efficiency of the proposed algorithm of control compared with available ones applied in terms of different road conditions. Findings. As a part of the studies, algorithm of the coordinated automated road traffic has been developed. It helps support maximum output of road systems while monitoring changes in the traffic environment characteristics. Originality. For the first time, dependencies of assessment criteria of traffic flow control upon the parameters of a law of flow intensity regulation have been identified if maximum output of road systems is provided. The dependencies have helped substantiate optimum control criteria for different road conditions while automating a process of coordinated traffic flow regulation within local section of urban traffic network. Practical value. The proposed dependencies of assessment criteria of traffic flow control upon the parameters of a law of flow intensity regulation as well as the algorithm of automated coordinated control are the theoretical foundations to solve such an important applied scientific problem as automation of a process of urban traffic flow regulation.

Abstract:
In this study, the enablers of Customer Knowledge Management (CKM) software companies are investigated. Consequently, the conceptual CKM enabler model is developed by extracting “organizational”, “technological” and “human” factors from the literature. Then, a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) approach is applied to identify the dependence relationships of factors by using the Analytic Network Processes (ANP) and the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) techniques. The inter-dependencies significance among the factors is evaluated by DEMATEL. ANP technique is used in order to clarify the relative significance of the factors and identify the weight and priority. The results show that the “organization” dimension is the most considerable aspect of enhancing CKM in software development. The “organization” aspect has more interaction with other aspects and activates the “technology” and “human” factors. In addition, “technology” is the second dimension that influences “human” and “organization”. Due to the importance of CKM for organizations, this research provides a significant contribution in the context of CKM by extracting and ranking the CKM antecedent factors for enterprise software development context.

Purpose. Analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of indicators of the internal rate of return and the modified internal rate of return as criteria for the effectiveness of an investment project. Methodology. The mathematical and graphic apparatus for studying the functions and dependencies between the economic characteristics of future financial and production activities of entrepreneurial activity was used in the process of the analysis of the most important indicators of the effectiveness of the investment project. Findings. The characteristics of the criterion of the internal rate of return are studied on the basis of the properties of the function which describes the dependence of the net present value of the project on the value of the discount rate. The main advantages of the modified internal rate of return in comparison with its unmodified analogue are revealed. The inequalities between the indicated indicators are mathematically proved, their influence on the stability (safety) characteristics of the investment project is analyzed, and the interrelation of the criterion of the modified internal rate of return with the value of the profitability index is shown. Originality. The originality consists in the mathematical proof of the interrelation between the indicators of the internal rate of return and the modified internal rate of return, as well as the interrelation between the criterion of the modified internal rate of return and the profitability index of the investment project. Practical value. Abstract:
The crop yield depends on numerous weather factors, but mainly on the rainfall pattern and course of air temperature during vegetation period. Investigating the dependence of yields on rainfall, apart from its amount, there also should be taken into account dry spell periods. The two-state Markov chain was considered as a precipitation pattern in the investigation, since it is generally recognized as a simple and effective model of the precipitation occurrence. Based on the daily precipitation totals from the period 1971—2013, the Markov chain was designated. The data were derived from a measuring point of the University of Science and Technology in Bydgoszcz, Poland. As one of the objectives was to determine the order of the Markov chain examined describing the change of precipitation in subsequent days. Another aim was to investigate rainfall dependencies on a month of a year. An analysis of this data leads to the conclusion that the chain is second order. This is confirmed by the two criteria used: BIC (Bayesian Information Criteria) and AIC (Akaike Information Criteria). The research regarded the precipitation volume dependence on a month of the year.

Boys played significantly more regularly than girls and were more likely to be classified as “dependent.” The earlier children began playing computer games it appeared the more likely they were to be playing at “dependent” levels. These and other results are discussed in relation to research on other gaming dependencies.

Abstract:
Abstract We consider the task of discovering functional dependencies in data for target attributes of interest. To solve it, we have to answer two questions: How do we quantify the dependency in a model-agnostic and interpretable way as well as reliably against sample size and dimensionality biases? How can we efficiently discover the exact or $$\alpha $$ α -approximate top-k dependencies? We address the first question by adopting information-theoretic notions. Specifically, we consider the mutual information score, for which we propose a reliable estimator that enables robust optimization in high-dimensional data. To address the second question, we then systematically explore the algorithmic implications of using this measure for optimization. We show the problem is NP-hard and justify worst-case exponential-time as well as heuristic search methods. We propose two bounding functions for the estimator, which we use as pruning criteria in branch-and-bound search to efficiently mine dependencies with approximation guarantees. Empirical evaluation shows that the derived estimator has desirable statistical properties, the bounding functions lead to effective exact and greedy search algorithms, and when combined, qualitative experiments show the framework indeed discovers highly informative dependencies.

Abstract:
The recognition and extraction of terms and their variants in texts are crucial processes in text mining. We use the ILC platform, an automatic controlled indexing platform, to perform these linguistic processes. We present a methodology for enhancing the recognition of syntactic term variation in English, using syntactic and morpho-syntactic features. Principal spurious variants of terms are ascribed to incorrect word dependencies. To overcome these problems, we consider each term variant as a window on the sentence and introduce two criteria: an internal syntactic criterion which checks that the dependencies between words in the window are respected, and an external criterion which defines boundaries, making it possible to ensure that the window is well positioned in the sentence. The use of these criteria improves filtering of the variants and assists the expert in validating the indexing.

Abstract:
Human behavior has been estimated as a factor too uncertain and complex to investigate road safety issues. By utilizing recent expansions of ordinary fuzzy sets, experts in the field have intended to handle the vagueness of human behavior in sustainable transport systems by using linguistic terms for assessment. Pythagorean Fuzzy sets (PFSs) are considered a superior method that has been developed for multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM), which enables assigning of both membership and non-membership functions in a large domain area. A novel Pythagorean Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (PF-AHP) is performed to assess and prioritize critical driver behavior criteria designed into a hierarchical model based on data gathered from observed driver groups in Budapest city. Accordingly, based on the aggregated weights, the criterion ‘lapses’ is prioritized as the most critical factor connected to road safety. The criterion ‘disobey speed limits’ is found to be the least critical factor, followed by ‘disobey overtaking rules’ as the second least. For a comparative analysis, the case of dependent criteria has been considered. Pythagorean Fuzzy DEMATEL method has been applied to determine dependencies between the criteria. Through the dependencies, a network of criteria has been constructed and the Pythagorean Fuzzy Analytic Network Process (ANP) conducted to interpret the results. Moreover, sensitivity analyses have been carried out to examine its robustness by applying different case scenarios.

Abstract:
Consider the problem of modelling memory effects in discrete-state random walks using higher-order Markov chains. This paper explores cross-validation and information criteria as proxies for a model’s predictive accuracy. Our objective is to select, from data, the number of prior states of recent history upon which a trajectory is statistically dependent. Through simulations, I evaluate these criteria in the case where data are drawn from systems with fixed orders of history, noting trends in the relative performance of the criteria. As a real-world illustrative example of these methods, this manuscript evaluates the problem of detecting statistical dependencies in shot outcomes in free throw shooting. Over three National Basketball Association (NBA) seasons analysed, several players exhibited statistical dependencies in free throw hitting probability of various types—hot handedness, cold handedness and error correction. For the 2013–2014 to 2015–2016 NBA seasons, I detected statistical dependencies in 23% of all player-seasons. Focusing on a single player, in two of these three seasons, LeBron James shot a better percentage after an immediate miss than otherwise. Conditioning on the previous outcome makes for a more-predictive model than treating free throw makes as independent. When extended specifically to LeBron James' 2016–2017 season, a model depending on the previous shot (single-step Markovian) does not clearly beat a model with independent outcomes. An error-correcting variable length model of two parameters, where James shoots a higher percentage after a missed free throw than otherwise, is more predictive than either model.

Abstract:
Copulas have become one of most popular tools used in modelling the dependencies among financial time series. The main aim of the paper is to formally assess the relative explanatory power of competing bivariate Copula-AR-GARCH models, which differ in assumptions on the conditional dependence structure represented by particular copulas. For the sake of comparison the Copula-AR-GARCH mod-els are estimated using the maximum likelihood method, and next they are informally compared and ranked according to the values of the Akaike (AIC) and of the Schwarz (BIC) information criteria. We apply these tools to the daily growth rates of four sub-indices of the stock index WIG published by the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Our results indicate that the informal use of the information criteria (AIC or BIC) leads to very similar ranks of models as compared to those obtained by the use of the formal Bayesian model comparison.

Abstract For the construction company, tendering is the most popular way of acquiring contracts. The decision to participate in the tender needs to be made carefully, as it affects the condition of the company and is an important aspect in its quest for success. The bid/no bid decision making is a complex process involving a number of factors. The research carried out so far has mainly concerned the identification of the various kinds of influences on contractors’ bidding decisions. The researchers, on the basis of contractors’ opinions, created rank lists in an attempt to categorize the factors. In this paper the author employs factor analysis which belongs to basic methods of multi-dimensional data analysis. The paper’s aim is first to depict an output set of observed variables, that is bid/no bid factors, in terms of a smaller set of latent variables which cannot be directly observed and then to interpret the dependencies between them.

Abstract:
The problem of determining the properties of the object by analyzing the numerical and qualitative characteristics of a discrete sample is considered. A method has been developed to determine the probability of trouble-free operation of electronic systems for the case if the interpolation fields are different between several interpolation nodes. A method has been developed to determine the probability of trouble-free operation if the interpolation polynomial is the same for the entire interpolation domain. It is shown that local interpolation methods give more accurate results, in contrast to global interpolation methods. It is shown that in the case of global interpolation it is possible to determine the value of the function outside the given values by extrapolation methods, which makes it possible to predict the probability of failure. It is shown that the use of approximation methods to determine the probability of trouble-free operation reduces the error of the second kind. A method for analyzing the qualitative characteristics of functional dependences has been developed, which allows us to choose the optimal interpolation polynomial. With sufficient statistics, using the criteria of consent, it is possible to build mathematical models for the analysis of failure statistics of electronic equipment. Provided that the volume of statistics is not large, such statistics may not be sufficient and the application of consent criteria will lead to unsatisfactory results. Another approach is to use an approximation method that is applied to statistical material that was collected during testing or controlled operation. In this regard, it is extremely important to develop a method for determining the reliability of electronic systems in case of insufficiency of the collected statistics of failures of electronic equipment.

Abstract:
Bayesian network classifiers (BNCs) have proved their effectiveness and efficiency in the supervised learning framework. Numerous variations of conditional independence assumption have been proposed to address the issue of NP-hard structure learning of BNC. However, researchers focus on identifying conditional dependence rather than conditional independence, and information-theoretic criteria cannot identify the diversity in conditional (in)dependencies for different instances. In this paper, the maximum correlation criterion and minimum dependence criterion are introduced to sort attributes and identify conditional independencies, respectively. The heuristic search strategy is applied to find possible global solution for achieving the trade-off between significant dependency relationships and independence assumption. Our extensive experimental evaluation on widely used benchmark data sets reveals that the proposed algorithm achieves competitive classification performance compared to state-of-the-art single model learners (e.g., TAN, KDB, KNN and SVM) and ensemble learners (e.g., ATAN and AODE).

Abstract:
An approach to solving the problems of multi-criteria selection with the determination of suitable applicants based on the values of a number of criteria is considered. Known approaches to the solution of these problems do not always allow determining reasonable solutions with full consideration of the features of the selected criteria and their evaluation conditions. Comparison of evaluations by criteria often takes place from subjective positions without proper justification, which affects both the results of the selection and the possibilities of their practical application. Known multi-criteria selection procedures use fixed measurement scales to compare values, which in practical situations may not correspond to real ratios of indicators. Another significant shortcoming of these procedures is ignoring the presence of non-linear dependencies between evaluations by criteria and attributes of decisions made in different ranges of their values. The above indicates the possibility of obtaining inadequate evaluations of decisions with corresponding negative consequences. The paper proposes an approach to the construction of solutions to multi-criteria selection problems based on the definition of applicants by ordering them according to the degree of approximation to the option with the best ratios of evaluations according to the selected performance criteria based on iterative concessions according to the specified criteria. Applicants are compared on the basis of the ratios of assessments according to the agreed criteria, the definition of which is provided by a set of mathematical models that reproduce the dependence of the values of individual criteria on the attributes of the applicant decisions. The formation of a sequence of candidates for solutions is based on the results of comparisons according to individual criteria, which allows to determine alternative solutions and evaluate their effectiveness with the construction of a Pareto subset. An example is considered that reproduces the processes of choosing alternative options for building a virtual data processing system based on the characteristics of virtual machines from providers of cloud processing technologies. The obtained research results indicate the possibility of using the proposed approach as part of decision-making support subsystems to solve the problems of operational management of dynamic service and production processes.

Abstract Companies are facing numerous pressures and challenges in order to be competitive in the market and meet the requirements of their customers which require an improvement in the supply chain practices of the firms to be more effective and efficient for sustainable competitive advantage. This study examines the use of a multi-criteria decision making method using analytic network process (ANP) to estimate the how supply chain activities of the selected manufacturing firms’ influences its firm performance in other to enhance the satisfaction of customers. The population of the study is the manufacturing firms quoted in the Nigeria stock exchange. An ANP-based questionnaire was administered to Managers of selected manufacturing firms for pairwise comparison of supply chain factors relative influences and dependencies on their customers. A nonlinear network model was built to capture all the factors of supply chain practices and firms performance into clusters, nodes and dependences for the purpose of estimating various influences supply chain practices on the performance of the various companies studied.. Data collected were analysed using software of Super decision 3.0version. The results revealed factors of supply chain practices that have a great connection with one another and strong relationship indicating that without the implementing the key factors of supply chain there would not be a significant improvement in the performance of the organisation which will also affects the desire of the customers. The ANP model has helped to show the interdependencies and feedback among the various factors of practices of supply chain to augment the level of performance of the firms.

Abstract:
Different approaches to determine the acceptance criteria for fatigue induced failure of structural systems and components are discussed and compared. The considered approaches take basis in either optimization (societal cost-benefit analysis) or are derived from past and actual practice or codes (revealed preferences). The system acceptance criteria are expressed in terms of the maximal acceptable annual probability of collapse due to fatigue failure. Acceptance criteria for the individual fatigue failure modes are then derived using a simplified system reliability model. The consequence of fatigue failure of the individual joints is related to the overall system by evaluating the change in system reliability given fatigue failure. This is facilitated by the use of a simple indicator, the Residual Influence Factor. The acceptance criteria is thus formulated as a function of the system redundancy and complexity. In addition, the effect of dependencies in the structure on the acceptance criteria are investigated. Finally an example is presented where the optimal allocation of the risk to different welded joints in a jacket structure is performed by consideration of the necessary maintenance efforts.

The perspective of competition in the high technology industry has changed impressively over the last two decades and the indicators which can be defined as the traditional indicators of business performance are insufficient today. So we have identified a new set of financial and non-financial performance indicators that can be used by firms and then, we developed a business performance measurement model. There may be relations and dependencies among the dimensions of performance. For this reason, performance evaluation should be conducted in a holistic manner. In this study, a hybrid method, Equated Priority Values (EPV), has been used to reflect the outcomes of the most commonly used approaches, including the modified Fuzzy Logarithmic Least Squares Method (modified fuzzy LLSM), Chang’s Extent Analysis Method and Mikhailov’s Fuzzy Prioritization Approach. A real world application is carried out to illustrate how the model can be utilized. The application could be interpreted as demonstrating the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed model.

Abstract:
A variety of extensions to the traditional (ACID) transaction model have resulted in a plethora of extended transaction models (ETMs). Many of these ETMs are application-specific, i.e. they are designed to provide correctness guarantees adequate for a particular application, but not others. Similarly, an application-specific ETM may impose restrictions that are unacceptable in one application, yet required in another. To define new ETMs, to determine whether an ETM is appropriate for an application, and to integrate ETMs to produce new ETMs, we need a framework for ETM specification and reasoning. In this paper, we describe such a framework. Our framework supports implementation-independent specification of ETMs described in terms of dependencies between transactions. Dependencies are specified using dependency descriptors. Unlike other transaction specification frameworks, dependency descriptors use a common set of primitives, and are enforceable, i.e. can be evaluated at any time during transaction execution to determine whether issued operations violate ETM specifications. We discuss specifications of (i) structure dependencies between transaction states, and (ii) correctness dependencies for serializability, various cooperative and temporal correctness criteria, and recoverability. We give ETM specification examples for a telecommunications application illustrating the definition of a new application-specific ETM using our framework.

Abstract:
Type of wave breaking - plunging or spilling - depends on symmetry of waves. The spilling waves are asymmetric against horizontal axis and are practically symmetric against vertical axis so the phase shift between first and second nonlinear harmonics (or biphase) is close to zero. The plunging breaking waves have larger asymmetry against vertical axis, (biphase is close to -pi/2), and near symmetric on horizontal axis (close to saw-toothed form). Non-linear wave transformation influences on depth-induced wave breaking. Breaking index depends on relation of wave energy in frequency range of second nonlinear harmonics to wave energy in frequency range of main harmonic and on biphase. The dissipation rate of spilling breaking waves energy quadratically depends on frequency, while in plunging breaking, this dependency is practically linear for all frequencies.

Abstract:
Pervious concrete is characterized by its open-void structure, which gives it a number of specific properties and allows specific applications, including pervious pavements, residential roads, alleys, sidewalks, parking lots, patios, and so on. Permeable areas are extremely important for the creation of sustainable cities in terms of the water cycle. Due to its high void content and low cement/mortar content, pervious concrete generally may have significantly reduced strength when compared with conventional concrete. That is why a wide range of research activities is devoted to the balance between acceptable void content, strength, as well as other significant properties. Knowledge of the relationships between the individual properties is very important for understanding this specific material. In this paper, a wide range of 38 different composition variants has been tested to determine the dependencies between the essential properties of pervious concrete. The variables related to the type of aggregate, maximum grain size, the grain-size composition, the amount of binder, and the kind (composition) of binder. The dependencies reported in the article are defined with high reliability R2 ranging from 0.75 to 0.95. On the basis of the dependencies thus determined, it can be predicted that a density of min. 1740 kg/m3 must be reached to meet the requirement of min. 10 MPa for nonpavement applications, while a density of min. 1960 kg/m3 must be achieved to meet min. 20 MPa for pavement applications. The criteria of the void ratio for pavement applications can be set at 20 ± 3%, while the criteria for nonpavement applications can be set at 28 ± 6%.

Abstract:
Recently, research on detecting SNP interactions has attracted considerable attention, which is of great significance for exploring complex diseases. The formulation of effective swarm intelligence optimization algorithms is a primary resolution to this issue. To achieve this goal, an important problem needs to be solved in advance; that is, designing and selecting lightweight scoring criteria that can be calculated in O(m) time and can accurately estimate the degree of association between SNP combinations and disease status. In this study, we propose a high-accuracy scoring criterion (HSICCR) by measuring the degree of causality dedicated to assessing the degree. First, we approximate two kinds of dependencies according to the structural equation of the causal relationship between epistasis SNP combination and disease status. Then, inspired by these dependencies, we put forward this scoring criterion that integrates a widely used method of measuring statistical dependencies based on kernel functions (HSIC). However, the computing time complexity of HSIC is O(m2), which is too costly to be an integral part of the scoring criterion. Since the sizes of the sample space of the disease status, SNP loci and SNP combination are small enough, we propose an efficient method of computing HSIC for variables with a small sample in O(m) time. Eventually, HSICCR can be computed in O(m) time in practice. Finally, we compared HSICCR with five representative high-accuracy scoring criteria that detect SNP interactions for 49 simulation disease models. The experimental results show that the accuracy of our proposed scoring criterion is, overall, state-of-the-art.

Analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of indicators of the internal rate of return and the modified internal rate of return as criteria for the effectiveness of an investment project. The mathematical and graphic apparatus for studying the functions and dependencies between the economic characteristics of future financial and production activities of entrepreneurial activity was used in the process of the analysis of the most important indicators of the effectiveness of the investment project. The scientific novelty consists in the mathematical proof of the interrelation between the indicators of the internal rate of return and the modified internal rate of return, as well as the interrelation between the criterion of the modified internal rate of return and the profitability index of the investment project. Theoretical conclusions and suggestions can be used in the investment analysis of future financial and production projects in the domestic economy, which opens up the possibilities of rational use of resources in entrepreneurial activity at all levels of business process management.

Abstract:
Selection of an appropriate maintenance strategy for multi-component systems is a very complex task due to diversity of components and their different failure modes, existence of various dependencies among components and a large number of competing criteria that need to be taken into consideration. This study presents a combined analytic network process and cost-risk criticality analysis model to select a cost-effective, low-risk maintenance strategy for different sets of components of a complex system. The proposed model consists of four maintenance alternatives (i.e. failure-based, time-based, risk-based and condition-based), among which the most appropriate strategy, on the basis of two criteria of maintenance implementation costs and failure criticality, is to be chosen. The former criterion includes the annual maintenance expenditure required for hardware, software and personnel training, while the latter criterion focuses on the capability of maintenance in reducing the failure vulnerability and enhancing the reliability and resilience. The possible dependencies among selection criteria as well as the failure interactions between components are taken into account to evaluate the maintenance alternatives. Finally, the model is applied to determine a suitable maintenance strategy for a new wind turbine configuration consisting of several mechanical, electrical and auxiliary components at the design stage. The results are compared with practices of maintenance over the first year of system operation as well as with the results obtained from an analytic hierarchy process model.

Abstract:
This paper presents a developed method for fuzzy multiple-criteria optimization of the rolled-steel heat treatment processes in the modern metallurgical plant. At the first stage of the study, by means of passive industrial experiments or a mathematical simulation of heat transfer processes, and using statistical methods, the regression dependencies of the output parameters of process quality on the input variables that are technological parameters are established. Then, based on the quality parameters, membership functions are formed that represent local criteria of the process quality, and their ranks are calculated using the matrix of pairwise comparisons. The practically useful methodology of the fuzzy multiple-criteria optimization of technological processes is proposed. To illustrate this methodology’s practical efficiency, the solutions of two optimization problems are found by maximizing the global criterion that aggregates local criteria using their ranks. It is shown that the efficiency of the obtained optimal heat treatment modes significantly exceeds the efficiency of the technology used earlier in the plant.

Abstract:
The subject matter of the article is the method of multi-criteria assessment of the indicator of labor safety in production. The goal of the work is to develop a methodology for applying functional dependence for multi-criteria assessment of labor safety in production, taking into account the characteristics of the system of harmful and dangerous production factors. The following task is solved in the article: to explore the possibility of using a functional dependence to obtain estimates of different-dimensional labor safety indicators on a dimensionless scale, while taking into account its unevenness and coordinating it with the characteristics of hazardous factors in production. Methods are used: qualimetry and mathematical statistics; expert. The following results were obtained: the existing functional dependencies between the measured values of quality indicators and their assessment on a dimensionless scale, which were used to evaluate qualimetry objects of various natures, were analyzed. It is shown that for an objective assessment of qualimetry objects, as a rule, nonlinear dependencies should be used. The main task of the researcher is to choose the type of nonlinear dependence; this requires additional scientific research. The tool for choosing one or another non-linear relationship is the understanding of the physical essence of the qualimetry object, that is, the understanding of the patterns of the relationship between the measured value of the qualimetry indicators and their assessment. For this, it is important to use the methods of expert assessments, because usually such patterns are unknown. The functional dependence used to obtain estimates of labor safety indicators in production is stepwise and includes a form parameter. By changing the shape parameter, the curvature of the dependence changes, thereby changing the estimate on the dimensionless scale. This feature of the applied dependence allows us to develop a universal methodology, that is, by changing the shape parameter, this dependence can be applied to various indicators of labor safety in any production. As an example, the article considers metallurgical production, while assessing the most dangerous factors. A step-by-step methodology for determining a generalized indicator of labor safety in production and an example of measured numerical values of hazardous factors has been developed, its effectiveness and versatility have been shown. Conclusions: to determine the generalized indicator of occupational safety at work, it is proposed to use the functional relationship between individual indicators of harmful production factors and their values on a dimensionless scale, which gives a quantitative assessment of occupational safety at work. With the help of the proposed method, you can make management decisions, which minimizes the deviation of the actual values of harmful factors from the optimal ones.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to systematically demonstrate the use of an effective multiple criteria decision-making technique, i.e. fuzzy technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) in ranking the decision criteria of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS). Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire is specially designed and served to the industry experts to collect their opinion on several FMS decision criteria. Subsequently, fuzzy TOPSIS is used to prioritize the decision criteria. Findings Fuzzy TOPSIS multiple criteria decision-making technique is explained and applied to determine relative importance of the several decision criteria of FMS. This will help management of organizations in taking decision for implementing FMS in their organizations. From this study, it is found that customer satisfaction is the top most criterion among several other criteria for the successful implementation of FMS. Research limitations/implications In situation like the one considered in this research, there are dependencies and interactions among the criteria and, therefore, other techniques such as fuzzy analytic network process would have been a better choice. Nevertheless, fuzzy TOPSIS also provides good result as it incorporates vagueness associated with the decision maker’s opinion pertaining to the several FMS decision criteria. Originality/value This paper presents a fuzzy TOSIS model to help managers understand the relative importance of the several FMS decision criteria so that they can use this information for successful implementation of this advanced manufacturing technology in their organizations.

Abstract:
Abstract The article aims to illustrate the mutual dependencies and transfers between different segments of the cultural field and areas of civic or political activities, together with the function these changes fulfil in redrawing individual trajectories and then the balance of forces. The leading idea is that, in relation with the literary field, the intellectual field is most sensitive to political changes and functions as a regulatory and legitimizing space for writers’ everyday practices, via its power to produce the criteria for public recognition and thus for symbolic inclusion and exclusion. This casts a different look on the claims for creative autonomy within the cultural field and its multiple dependencies on media, politics, the civic and the academic field, and the understanding of the inner logic of these domains through the lens of their complex interrelationship.

Abstract:
Clinical trials of medicinal products related to the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis cover all activities, operations, methods and means for obtaining summary data and their interpretation in order to reveal the nature of the procedures, as well as certain relationships and dependencies of interest imposed the relevant study. The main objectives of the analysis are to characterize the relationships and dependencies, to measure the significance of these relationships, to model statistically significant relationships and dependencies. An important condition for conducting the statistical analysis is that the data are comparable, i.e. to be based on unambiguously defined features and criteria for their internal content. Objective: This work covers a documentary analysis of conducted clinical trials of drugs for the treatment of osteoporosis, as well as an analysis of the conducted clinical trials of the drug. Denosumab. Methods: Gathering primary empirical information, allowing for: objectification of certain facts; for retrospective study of events and phenomena in a long period; allows to determine the direction of development of the process of clinical trials and processes. The applied statistical analysis covers activities, operations, methods and means for obtaining summary data and for their interpretation in order to reveal the nature of the procedures, as well as certain connections and dependencies. Results: Studies show that clinical trials of osteoporosis products have the following limitations: gender differentiation – although the disease occurs in both sexes, studies in female patients are more common, patients are required to are in menopause, in some studies it is required as including criteria – the presence of a fracture due to osteoporosis, the age characteristic of patients is on average 45–80 years. All analyzed drugs show a positive effect on the state of bone density and bone structure. Conclusion: All analyzed medicinal products show a positive effect on the state of bone density and bone structure but the process is irreversible, so early prevention associated with early diagnosis would lead to earlier treatment measures in the early stages of the disease, which in turn, it would lead to long-term savings in indirect and difficult-to-estimate costs for society as a whole.

Abstract:
A common reason for changing the chosen service provider is the users' perception of service. Quality of Experience (QoE) describes the end user's perception of service while using it. A frequent cause of QoE degradation is inadequate traffic routing, where, other than throughput, selected routes do not satisfy minimum network requirements for the given service or services. In order to enable QoE-driven routing, per traffic type defined routing criteria are required. Our goal was to obtain those criteria for relevant services of a telecom operator. For the purpose of identifying services of interest, we first provide short results of user traffic analysis within the telecom operator network. Next, our work presents testbed measurements which explore the impact of packet loss and delay on user QoE for video, voice, and management traffic. For video services, we investigated separately multicast delivery, unicast HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), and unicast Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) traffic. Applying a threshold to QoE values, from the measured dependencies we extracted minimum network performance criteria for the investigated different types of traffic. Finally, we provide a comparison with results available in the literature on the topic.

Abstract:
Improving the efficiency of technological tillage methods is primarily associated with developing existing tools and creating new types of working tools for tillage machines. Tillage efficiency improvement depends on the correct choice of the most energy-efficient working tools belonging to the same class of the technological process. This research aims to develop scientific baselines for choosing energy-efficient working tools of different structural designs based on the criteria of power consumption and quality of shallow tillage. The object of this research includes working tools for shallow and deep tillage. The research subject is the changes in the criteria chosen to evaluate the working tools’ efficiency. We involved mathematical modeling based on laws of science observed during tillage, carried out experiments and analyses, and summarised the experimental findings. The scientific novelty of this research justifies the criteria for evaluating the efficiency and quality of working tools used for shallow and deep tillage. The research relies on graphical and empirical dependencies describing the trends in efficiency evaluation criteria for tillage working tools with various operation speed modes. We discovered that to evaluate the efficiency and choose the most energy-efficient tillage working tool, one should use a system of criteria: specific tractive resistance of the active frontal area, terra-dynamic resistance coefficient, and the primary tillage quality parameters. The probability of compliance of the mean values of calculated and experimental findings (0.51–0.87) confirms the adequacy of proposed mathematical models describing changes in specific tractive resistance per unit of active frontal area and terra-dynamic resistance coefficient of tillage working tools. According to the research, when a more energy-efficient tillage working tool is chosen, the working tools under comparison belong to the same class of working tools based on the technological process principle and functioning conditions. Discovered trends in the changes in the efficiency evaluation criteria and the choice of energy-efficient tillage working tools for shallow and deep tillage are represented by empirical dependencies applicable in specific ranges of motion speed under certain functioning conditions. Consequently, we emphasized that further studies should justify the upper and the lower borders of the tillage working tools and terra-dynamic resistance coefficient in accordance with the agrotechnical quality indicators of tillage.
