Full textEsta investigación consistió en analizar las prácticas de crianza de los padres jóvenes del municipio de Capulhuac Estado de México. Los participantes fueron ocho varones cuyos criterios de inclusión fueron: que tuvieran entre veinte y treinta y seis años de edad, de familia biparental, casados o en unión libre y que por lo menos estuvieran criando un hijo o una hija. Las técnicas utilizadas fueron la narrativa y la entrevista semiestructurada, asimismo se utilizó la Escala de percepción de prácticas de crianza para padres de Flores, Cortés y Góngora (2008). Una vez contactados a los participantes se les informó sobre el objetivo de la investigación y se les proporcionó el consentimiento informado. El análisis de la información fue con el método fenomenológico. Los resultados arrojaron que los participantes con sus hijos llevan a cabo manifestaciones afectivas en frecuencia e intensidad suficientes. La comunicación tiene como característica el interés y la propiciación del diálogo. En la disciplina y corrección física exigen a sus hijos para que se cumplan sus obligaciones, sancionan cuando esto no sucede y el castigo está presente, inclusive el físico. En el control sí supervisan y piden a sus hijos que informen sobre lo que hacen y sus problemas, también los instruyen sobre los amigos que eligen y deciden sobre la relación con parientes y amigos. Respecto a la irritabilidad, no sucede cuando los hijos tienen algún problema, ni al jugar con ellos, ni cuando expresan sus sentimientos, pero sí se irritan un poco cuando hablan con ellos debido a la sobrecarga de trabajo como jefes de familia. En el apoyo escolar se involucran mínimamente en las tareas escolares y un poco más cuando éstas sugieren un mayor nivel de dificultad, la vigilancia en el cumplimiento de actividades escolares se las delegan a las esposas. En el manejo adecuado de situaciones de adversidad y riesgo, en lo que respecta a salud, higiene y alimentación de los hijos señalan que se involucran por medio de la esposa, no orientan sobre enfermedades de transmisión sexual por la edad de los hijos y sí orientan en cuestiones de adicciones y violencia.

Full textThe present study described the relationship between attachment representations and father involvement in a sample of fathers of preschoolers. We evaluated 30 fathers and mothers with ages between 23 and 49 years old (M = 37.50, SD = 6.76) and 22 and 46 years old (M = 35.80, SD = 6.27), respectively. Likewise, the children had ages between 39 and 70 months (M = 50.90, SD = 10.68). The Attachment Script Assesment (ASA) (Waters & Rodrigues-Doolabh, 2004) and the Father Involvement Questionnaire (Domecq, 2010) were used for this purpose. The results showed no significant association between adult attachment representations and father involvement. However, an inverse correlation between the adult attachment stories and discipline was found. In addition, the sample presented significant differences between the fathers’ selfperceived involvement and the one mothers assigned to their partners. These results demonstrate the importance of continuing to explore parental involvement and its association with the relationship between parents and the caregiving of their children.

Full textThis research aims to establish the relation between attachment representations and parental sensitivity in a group of parents of preschoolers. For this purpose, we evaluated 18 parents aged between 25 and 50 years (M = 36, SD = 5.9) for children aged between 48 and 68 months (M = 58, SD = 6.7) using the Adult Attachment self-questionnaire "Modeles Individueles of relations" (CaMir) of Pierrehumbert, Karmaniola, Sieye, Meister, and Halfonet Miljkovitch (1996) for attachment representations and a adaptation of the Maternal Behavior Q-Set for Preschoolers Posada, Moreno and Richmond (1998 Posada, et al. 2007) for fathers sensitive behavior. It is found that there is no significant difference in the sensitivity of the parents according to their attachment representation. In addition, we aimed to describe specific paternal sensitivity, finding that fathers have a right globally level of sensitivity, but showing lower levels in the areas of Safe base support , Supervision and Setting Limits. We also found that the father's age was not related to the sensitivity of the parents in a significative way, but there was a significant difference in sensitivity according to whether the father consider himself as the primary caregiver or not, and their migration status. On the other hand, there were no differences in the sensitivity regarding the sex of the child.

Full textMothers of children with Asperger’s syndrome tend to experience high levels of parenting stress, even more than most mothers. In addition, their perception of their own parenting competence is usually diminished. Literature review shows an inverse correlation between these processes, which have not been studied in this group of mothers in our society. Taking that into consideration, the current investigation intended to identify if such relation existed and what its nature was. The sample consisted of 33 mothers who answered the Parental Stress Index and the Perceived Parenting Competence Scale (Escala de Competencia Parental Percibida).The results indicated three significant correlations; one inverse and two direct, respectively. First, mothers who felt their relationship with their child was a scarce source of positive reinforcement, felt less competent in offering structure and guidance. Second, mothers of children with less adaptive skills, offered more time and space to talk and solve doubts. Third, mothers of children who presented low expression of positive affects, felt more adapted to the fact of raising a child. Regarding sociodemographic variables, mothers who were divorced or separated reported less parenting ability, more isolation, more depressive symptoms, less support from the father, and less overall parenting competence. Similarly, mothers of an only child reported more isolation, more restriction related to the maternal role, more depressive symptoms, less support from the father, and less adaptation to the fact of being a mother. Results are discussed and interpreted in the light of the low reliability of some sub-scales of the instruments.

Full textThis research aimed to study the relationship between parenting stress and parenting practices among parents living in Metropolitan Lima. The sample consisted of 96 parents, 35 men (36.5%) and 61 women (63.5%), between 31 and 52 years of age (M = 43.12, SD = 3.60), whose children are between 6 and 12 years old (M = 8.95, SD = 1.55) and with no known developmental delay. The measures used were the Warmth Scale for Parents (EA-P; Bersabé et al., 2001), the Rules-Demands for Parents (ENE-P; Bersabé et al., 2001) and the Parenting Stress Index-Short Form (PSI-SF, Abidin, 1995), which were administered online. Results indicated significant correlations between total parenting stress scores and parenting practices, with the exception of indulgent practices. At higher levels of parenting stress, parents reported more expressions of criticism, rejection and strictness, as well as fewer expressions of affection, communication and inductive practices. In addition, these same correlations were present in fathers and mothers separately, with the exception of rigid forms of establishing norms, which was not present in fathers. Significant correlations were also found at the level of parenting stress domains. These results indicate that parenting stress is related to parenting practices, reinforcing findings from previous studies. Also, they show some characteristics specific to this Peruvian sample.

Full textThis research aims to establish the relation between father involvement and father-child attachment security. For this purpose, we evaluated 20 parents aged between 26 and 45 years (M = 35, DE = 5.38), as well as their children aged between 40 y 65 months (M = 53.9, DE = 8.75) from a middle socioeconomic status. The instruments used were Escala de Compromiso Paterno (Escala CP; Domecq, 2010), for father involvement, and the Attachment Q-Set 3.0 (AQS; Waters, 1995), for father-child attachment security. The results show a strong statistically significant relation between these two constructs, and also between global father involvement and the father-child attachment security dimension Proximity to father. Besides, we found a strong and statistically significant relation between the father involvement areas Opening to world and Emotional support, and global father-child attachment security. Additionally, the study had the specific objective of describing father involvement, finding middle to low scores, and that it does not have relation neither with the age of the fathers nor with the sex of the children. In respect of a second specific objective, we described the secure base behavior, from a comparison in observations points and the ideal criteria proposed by experts. Only in the observed dimension Smooth interaction there was no difference with theoretical ideal. These results show the importance of the father involvement assessment as a variable to consider when studying the father-child attachment security.

Full textThe purpose of this research is to analyze the relationship between maternal positive (ACP) and negative (ACN) conditional regard, parental autonomy support, motivation, academic engagement and perfectionism in 484 high school students from schools in Callao. Adequate values of the psychometric properties of the instruments used were also shown. This study validated the scale of parental conditional regard since it was one of its objectives. Through path analysis, the model showed a suitable fit index [X² (8) = 17.77, p = .08, RMSEA = .05, CFI = .99, SRMR = .02]. Thus, the perception of parental autonomy support was associated with academic engagement and adaptive perfectionism, this relationship was mediated by motivation. In addition, the perception of ACP was associated with lack of engagement and maladaptive perfectionism, with controlled motivation as the mediating variable. In addition, it was found that ACP is associated with adaptive perfectionism and academic engagement, through the mediation of autonomous motivation. The ACN was not related to controlled motivation but was directly associated with maladaptive perfectionism and lack of academic engagement. Likewise, the results showed that the perception of parental autonomy support was not negatively related to controlled motivation, and that control practices were not negatively related to autonomous motivation. Thus, the scope and limitations of these findings are discussed in the light of the theory of the "bright" and "dark" side of motivation. For future research, it is recommended to compare the parenting practices of mothers and fathers. Finally, this study is relevant to the extent that it highlights the role of parents in the academic field, even though they do not have a direct presence in classrooms. Full textThis study seeks to determine if there is any relation between parenting styles and anxiety in a low socio-economic group of adolescents from Lima. Data was gathered using the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) and the Children`s Manifest Anxiety Scale Revised (CMAS-R) for a sample of 221 students between the ages of 16 and 18 years, both male and female who were in the fifth grade of secondary in three public schools from the districts of Independencia, La Victoria and San Juan de Miraflores. Differences were found in anxiety according to the sex of the participant, being higher in women than in men. Regarding parenting styles, a significantly higher level of maternal and paternal Protection was found in women and a higher paternal Protection was found in older participants. Negative Correlations were found between maternal and paternal Care and all anxiety scales. Positive correlations were found between maternal and paternal Protection and all anxiety scales. For men, maternal and paternal care was negatively correlated with the Social Concerns/Concentration scale; and the parental Protection scale was positively correlated with all anxiety scales. Full textComing out is both one of the most vital and challenging life events for sexual minority individuals (Bonet et al., 2007; Grafsky, 2017; Harrison, 2003; Savin-Williams, 2001). After an initial period of crisis, some may experience significant psychological growth and positive changes in their lives (Cox et al, 2010; Solomon et al., 2015; Vaughan, 2007). This growth may be influenced both by the type of parenting received in childhood and by the amount of stress that coming out elicits later in life. Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the influence of Strengths-Based Parenting and Post-Traumatic Stress Symptoms on PostTraumatic Growth in sexual minority individuals in Lima, Peru, after coming out. A specific objective was to examine if there were significant differences in Post-Traumatic Growth in lesbian and gay vs. bisexual individuals. Method: For this purpose, 82 participants completed the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (Tedeschi & Calhoun, 1996), the Strengths-Based Parenting Questionnaire (Waters, 2017), and the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist (Weathers, Litz, Keane, Palmieri, Marx & Schnurr, 2013). Correlation and multiple regression analyses were performed for the main objective, as well as independent sample t-tests for the specific objective. Results and discussion: the results show that both SBP and PTSS are significant predictors of CPT in sexual minorities after coming out. While SBP facilitates growth, excessive levels of PTSS decrease it. Finally, bisexual individuals experiment less growth in the Appreciation for Life dimension than do lesbians and gay people, illustrating an additional difficulty for this minority group.

Full textThis research explored the mental representations of the mother towards her child as a result of an unplanned pregnancy, from a psychoanalytic perspective and framework. The study was developed under a phenomenological approach, approached from a qualitative research paradigm. 10 cases of mothers aged 21 to 32 years were explored through the collection of information through the use of two instruments, which worked in complementarity: the question guide developed according to Stern's theory (1997); and a semi-structured qualitative interview. The results were analyzed and organized thematically, and revealed that the construction of their representations about motherhood has, for the most part, a pre-elaborated base from the experience they lived with their own mother; thus displaying fantasies of her self-representation as a mother. An important finding so far is the mothers who mostly expressed the desire not to repeat their own upbringing were the ones who recognized that they were doing it. Likewise, it can be observed the largest number of interviewees "do not remember" having had higher expectations or predictions of their own child, so it coincides with the child they see today. The presence that this self-representation has within her own psyche from before conception plays a relevant role in how her own child and her partner will be perceived in the future.

Full textThe main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the authoritarian parenting style and the interpersonal skills in five year old children of Lima city. The sample is conformed by 100 parents who have five year old children. Two instruments were used, the Scale of Family Educational Practices by García & Román (2003) and the Social Skills – version for parents by Bermúdez (2010). After a correlational analysis between both variables was done, it was found that there is a significant relationship between the Authoritarian Parenting Style and the Inadecuate Interaction. Also, there was a comparative analysis between sociodemographic data, the children’s sex and parent’s sex and it was found no significant differences between both variables.

Full textThe general objective of this study is to explore the relationship between paternal commitment and emotional regulation in preschool children as reported by their fathers. Participants were 72 fathers between 21 and 53 years of age (M=33.04, SD=7.57). The instruments used were the Parental Involvement Scale (CP) in its Spanish version adapted in Peru by Domecq (2010) and the Emotion Regulation Checklist (ERC, Shields & Cicchetti, 1997) in its Spanish version translated by Servera, Garcia-Delgar and Cicchetti (2016). A positive and medium correlation was found between paternal commitment and emotional regulation. Also, an inverse and small association was found between parental commitment and the lability / negativity dimension; and a direct and medium one between parental commitment and the emotional regulation dimension. Similarly, significant differences were found in parental commitment according to type of caregiving. However, no significant differences or associations were found in paternal commitment and emotional regulation according to the other sociodemographic variables. Finally, the results are discussed according to the theories and studies reviewed.

Full textThe present research seeks to analyze the perception of parents about the styles of family upbringing for the development of the social skills of their children, considering that, being first grade children, the interaction of children is mainly with the family. In this sense, it is parents who provide children, during daily interaction, with key tools to verbalize and act in a society. Considering this, in this study it analyzes the perception of parents about the styles of family upbringing for the development of their children's social skills, because the relationship between parents and children is determined based on them. To achieve the aforementioned objective, a qualitative and descriptive-level research was chosen. In the research, it became clear that the style most used by the families that participated in this study is democratic, which is evidenced in everyday interactions. However, when comparing children's social skills with theory, it is appreciated that they are related to democratic, authoritarian and overprotective parenting styles. Therefore, the main finding of the study is that in some cases parenting styles are oriented to the development of children's social skills, however, not in all of them, since personal factors intervene. Whereas, the personality characteristics of each child also influence the development of social skills, but to a lesser extent compared to parenting styles.

The growing demand for child psychological care results in increased referral of children to mental health services. However, a rate of 50% to 60% abandonment of child psychotherapy is estimated. Since the beginning of child psychological care is the most delicate and decisive phase for the success or failure of psychotherapy, we must investigate the purposes of children's psychological referrals to understand the meanings attributed to this process. To do so, using a psychoanalytically oriented qualitative methodology, we interviewed four children, their parents, psychologists and other professionals involved in the referral to a Public Health Unit for Children and Adolescents. We adopted as a procedure the framework of individual open interviews and the investigative resource of Interactive Narratives to facilitate access to the experience undergone by the participants. We have established five thematic axes that contemplate the meanings found, both in the scientific literature and in the participants' reports, as follows: Reasons for child referral; Sources of child referral; Profile of children's clientele; Parents and the psychological care of their children; and Adherence and abandonment of psychotherapy. Such axes guide the discussion about the theme of the psychological referral of children in the light of the scientific literature as well as the work of Donald Woods Winnicott. Parents appear as the main part involved, although usually excluded from decision making, whose participation in all stages of the referral process is decisive to the success or failure of the referral itself. In addition, the inclusion of the child's perspective has enabled us not only to reveal the meanings that it attributes to the efforts of understanding by professionals, to parental care and to their own suffering, but to doubt the effectiveness of any intervention that disregards the child's view and excludes a deep partnership with parents.
La creciente demanda por la atenci?n psicol?gica infantil resulta en el aumento de la derivaci?n de ni?os a los servicios de salud mental. Sin embargo, se estima una tasa de 50% a 60% de abandono de la psicoterapia infantil. Siendo el inicio de la atenci?n psicol?gica infantil la fase m?s delicada y decisiva para el ?xito o fracaso de la psicoterapia, cabe investigar los sentidos de las derivaciones psicol?gicas infantiles, a fin de comprender los significados atribuidos a este proceso. Para ello, utilizando el m?todo cualitativo de orientaci?n psicoanal?tica entrevistamos cuatro ni?os, sus padres, psic?logos y otros profesionales involucrados en las derivaciones a una Unidad P?blica de Salud Mental Infanto-Juvenil. Adoptamos como procedimiento el encuadre de entrevistas abiertas individuales y el recurso investigativo de las Narrativas Interactivas, con la intenci?n de facilitar el acceso a la experiencia vivida por los participantes. Establecimos cinco ejes tem?ticos que contemplan los sentidos encontrados, tanto en la literatura cient?fica como en los relatos de los participantes, que son: Motivos para la derivaci?n infantil; Fuentes de derivaci?n infantil; Perfil de la clientela infantil; Los padres y la atenci?n psicol?gica de los hijos; y Adhesi?n y abandono de la psicoterapia. Tales ejes gu?an la discusi?n sobre el tema de derivaci?n infantil a la luz de la literatura cient?fica, as? como la obra de Donald Woods Winnicott. Los padres aparecen como los principales involucrados, aunque usualmente excluidos de la toma de decisiones, siendo su participaci?n en todas las etapas de proceso de derivaci?n decisiva para el ?xito o fracaso de la derivaci?n psicol?gica infantil. Adem?s de eso, la inclusi?n de la perspectiva del ni?o nos permiti? no solo revelar los sentidos que ?l atribuye a los esfuerzos de comprensi?n por parte de los profesionales, al cuidado parental y a su propio sufrimiento, sino dudar de la eficacia de cualquier intervenci?n que no tenga en cuenta la visi?n infantil y excluya una profunda cooperaci?n con los padres.
A crescente demanda pelo atendimento psicol?gico infantil resulta no aumento do encaminhamento de crian?as para os servi?os de sa?de mental. Entretanto, estima-se uma taxa de 50% a 60% de abandono da psicoterapia infantil. Sendo o in?cio do atendimento psicol?gico infantil a fase mais delicada e decisiva para o sucesso ou fracasso da psicoterapia, cabe investigarmos os sentidos do encaminhamento psicol?gico infantil, a fim de compreendermos os significados atribu?dos a esse processo. Para tanto, utilizando metodologia qualitativa de orienta??o psicanal?tica entrevistamos quatro crian?as e seus pais, al?m de psic?logos e outros profissionais envolvidos com os encaminhamentos para uma Unidade P?blica de Sa?de Mental Infanto-Juvenil. Adotamos como procedimento o enquadre de entrevistas abertas individuais e o recurso investigativo das Narrativas Interativas, no intuito de facilitar o acesso ? experi?ncia vivida pelos participantes. Os pais figuram como os principais envolvidos, embora usualmente exclu?dos da tomada de decis?o, cuja participa??o em todas as etapas do processo de encaminhamento psicol?gico ? decisiva para o sucesso ou fracasso do pr?prio encaminhamento. Al?m disso, a inclus?o da perspectiva da crian?a nos permitiu n?o s? revelar os sentidos que esta atribui aos esfor?os de compreens?o dos profissionais, ao cuidado parental e ao seu pr?prio sofrimento, mas duvidar da efic?cia de qualquer interven??o que desconsidere a vis?o infantil e exclua uma profunda parceria com os pais.

Full textEl presente estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar el funcionamiento familiar y la actitud hacia la crianza desde la perspectiva de los padres, madres e hijos con discapacidad intelectual, a partir del enfoque sistémico; el cual fue desarrollado a través de dos técnicas de recolección de información. Para las figuras parentales: entrevista semiestructurada y narrativa; para los niños la entrevista y la escala de percepción de tareas de crianza para niños con discapacidad intelectual de Hernández, Oudhof, González Arratia, Robles y Zarza (2011). Se trabajó con seis familias compuestas por padre, madre e hijo; este último debía estar diagnosticado con discapacidad intelectual leve o superficial, tener una edad cronológica entre siete-quince años y tener habilidades comunicativas básicas.
