Full textIn the earlier 90th, according to the Instituto de Economia da Unicamp, the monthly amount with payment in a big soccer Brazilian team was about, US$ 40 thousand. In 1999, this total spent increase to US$ 800 thousand, growing about 200%. On this period, both, the main soccer players earnings, now millionaires, moved on in a geometric progression, and the mediatic exploration make then heroes on this motherland in football shoes. Which are the effects of this soccer hiper-exposition on the means of communication and on the subjective quality component process on teenagers from popular strata of society? This is a survey about the beliefs and representations on rites in the soccer players identification at the beginning of the professional career. The relevance of this study consists of the analysis about psycho-social significance or representation of soccer, making possible the discussion with reference to the part of this sport in the production process of each player, starting from the investigation of the subject-context and necessity-satisfaction interference, in which every representation is anchored. Entering the soccer psycho-social dimension, the intention was to reveal the myths, creeds and representations that bound the players career, interfering in the identity constitution process, examining the identification process with famous person, idols, heroes and analyzing the social representation of soccer in applicant players to be professional and its influence under the social custom. As for the theorical reference the approach used was that of the identity as a metamorphosis from Ciampa (1993,1999) and the social representations of Moscovici (1978,1984,1988), Spink (1993,1996), Jodelet (1984), Arruda (2002) and Guareschi (1996,2000), which are based on the analysis of discursive practice. As a procedure, an investigation was conducted based on the oral report with partially-structured interviews with 10 athletes from base divisions of a popular team in the northeast of Brazil. They were selected under a criterion of exclusion of the beginners coming from working class, between sixteen and eighteen years old, most of then black man, low level of instruction, and on the initial phase of the professionalism. From the qualitative analysis of the recurrent speech, based on the Ideas Association Approach (Spink and Guareschi, 1993), the main thematic categories have arisen: the early period/initiation to soccer, the parents approval and the expectatives on the professional future: introduction on the sportive universe through an outside view which recognize the fellows abilities and potencial and the conscious of doesnt have inclination to study; socialization and prestige: the team legitimating the image of a good player; the auto-image, perception about the self as a soccer player; the ideology, process anchored on the splendour and idolatrous representation of the professional soccer player; the objectification about ilusion on the conciliating justifications between love for the team and the financial interesting; the legitimating, feeling of be among the elite the beginner players social representation about soccer; the alienation, showed on the professional choices deficiency to a possible failure, never represented and accepted as a possibility.

Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: In this study, the researcher studied the Belhar Confession of the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa (URCSA), which gained shape following the social injustices that resulted from the policy of apartheid. The researcher argues that the Belhar Confession, especially Article 4 of the said confession, forces URCSA to establish a Theology of Development within their structures. While URCSA‟s role (Dutch Reformed Mission Church and the Dutch Reformed Church in Africa pre-1994) during the apartheid era was that of resistance, the church‟s role in a post-apartheid South African context was supposed to change to reconstruction and assistance. But was this the case? The researcher compared the South African socio-economic context before and after apartheid, and judged whether or not the ANC‟s “better life for all” campaign of 1994 made a significant difference in the post-apartheid South Africa. Did the new constitution make a difference in terms of the socio-economic situation of the country? Did the ANC campaign honour their word and did it result in a better life for all? Although the researcher argued that certain areas did change and differences were achieved, the researcher is convinced that poverty in South Africa is still a real problem – in the country and the rest of the world. Based upon this judgment, the researcher is of the opinion that given the current socio-economic situation of the country, the Belhar Confession is now more than ever relevant and exactly therefore should be the basis and motivation for the church to serve and be involved in the fight against poverty in South Africa. This motivation for the church to be involved is also justified according to the Bible. Through this justification and Biblical cry the church is challenged to not only rely on welfare projects in their role as poverty combaters. Here the researcher uses the generation theories of David Korten as support to make it clear that although welfare projects (generation one/two modes of engagement) address the immediate needs of the poor, they do not however address the root of the real poverty problem. The researcher also proposed a third/fourth generation mode of involvement from the church to combat poverty through systemic and asset-based systems and influence policies at various levels of government to address the poverty problem. Yet, even a third/fourth generation approach would not be sufficient on its own. The researcher suggests that the church should simultaneously implement generations 1 to 4 modes of engagement in order to be able to play an active role. Nonetheless, the intriguing questions are, is the church not already doing all of this? What role does Badisa play in all of this? Don‟t local churches, presumably, hide behind Badisa as an answer in their own involvement in the fight against poverty? Even if the church is involved in various modes of engagement, is it Belhar Confession driven? The researcher is convinced that the church is forced to stay involved in the fight against poverty at all levels. The Belhar Confession is an ecclesial theological response to the poverty and injustice context of South Africa because of the theological content of the confession as well as the context in which it originated. The confession originated in a context of racial segregation, religious apartheid and the theological justification of apartheid as well as large scale socio-political and socio-economical wrongdoing. Currently, there is still widespread poverty and socio-economic injustice in South Africa that make the Confession of Belhar relevant. Therefore, URCSA cannot help but to be involved because a church that belongs to God and confesses a confession like Belhar is called to stand where God stands, amongst the poor. This means that the church must witness and act against injustice and against all the powerful who selfishly seek only their own interests.

Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: The problem investigated in this thesis entails ordinance articles of the Dutch Reformed Church (1998) pertaining to the relevance of offices in the church in the modern world, and more specifically the office of the minister of the Gospel. During the past 30 years several authors doubted and questioned the authenticity of these offices as far as relevance, origin and content are concerned. Questions concerning the offices and especially the office of the minister of the Gospel, are posed because the Dutch Reformed Church ordinance is, allegedly, not based on the Scriptures and the ordinance also is accused of not providing explicit answers to these problems. The literature review clearly reveals that this questioning of the offices and more specifically the office of the minister of the Gospel, is not new in overseas literature. This tendency is also lately encountered in South Africa. The literature review also reveals that these questions are mainly driven by the authority crisis and ideologies such as pragmatism, functionalism, secularism, and post-modernism that leads to secularisation and democratisation. This fact emphasises the urgent need for the Church offices to be accounted for and investigated afresh in order to measure (test) its relation to the Biblical principles as found in the Scriptures, in the articles of faith and as they are formulated in the Dutch Reformed Church Ordinance. A large part of the study is dedicated to the investigation of the principles underlying the Church Ordinance and in chapter two an account is also given of the Scripture readings that are relevant to and justify the institution of the church offices according to the New and Old Testament. The ordinance articles pertaining to church offices, are analysed and evaluated in historical context to establish validity and to account for the natural historical development of the ordinance articles. The articles of faith to which the Dutch Reformed Church subscribes, are also scrutunized for evidence of basic Biblical principles in order to determine the extent to which these articles of faith support and are reflected in the rulings contained in the Church Ordinance. A critical, analytical, theological and historical investigation of the ordinance articles and the articles of faith reveals that they abundantly account for Christian principles and that the Dutch Reformed Church ordinance is based solidly on the Scriptures. in accepting and declaring that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Master of his church on earth, that He instituted and still maintains the church offices as instruments through which he, himself rules. Attention is also given to the need for reformulation of redundant or ambiguous articles on the order in the church regarding the clergymen preaching the Word of God.

Full textWhat national contexts have influenced the decisions for the creation of new cities in bulgaria after 1945? what are the features of the sites that have been chosen for those cities? what kind of urban theories have guided the process of their creation? who are the actors in these new urban initiatives? can the new bulgarian cities be defined as national novelties? these are the research questions that have guided the present study and to which the author attempts to find an answer by employing several research methods and constructing following hypotheses: - the new bulgarian cities created after world war ii are not identical copies of new cities created in other socialist countries in europe during the same period of time. A specific ensemble of original elements exists which is typical only of the new bulgarian industrial cities; - the new bulgarian cities are not the only historical examples of authoritarian urban approach in the establishment of new settlements on the territory of the country. Since ancient time new cities have been created on the territory of the balkan peninsular and the process that has commenced after 1945 can be defined as a continuation of existing urbanization trends. The first part of this dissertation reveals the new realities in bulgaria after 1945, their social, economic and political context, and the authoritarian regimes under which the decisions, the conceptualization, and the construction of new cities as a tool for industrialization have been realized. It is also an attempt to identify original elements of the new bulgarian cities. The second part reveals the historical antecedents of the new bulgarian cities since thracean times through 1945. Part three summarizes the main trends in the process of establishment of new urban settlements and their characteristics in bulgaria and suggests a reconsideration of the concept of new cities

Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: Questions and problems concerning church membership are plenty and surface regularly in church . meetings. The way in which the church operates reflects a particular concept of the church. The· ideal is that way the church functi~ns according to the church law must express the essence of the church. Therefore it is important to ask questions on church membership in the light of the scriptures and the confession. This study shows that there is tension between the concept of the church which comes forwardin the Scriptures and the confession on the one hand and that which is reflected in the practical handling of membership issues on the other hand. An investigation into certain historic backgrounds, the conventions of a variety of churches on the issue of membership as well as the views of church members from· the Presbytery of the Dutch Reformed Church in Pietermaritzburg was necessary to acquire insight into the present situation. These investigations have shown that there are several customs and views on membership issues that do not have a sound theological basis. On what membership means and how it must be handled in practice there is also a wide variety of opinions. From the Old and New Testaments it becomes evident that a complete definition of the church is not possible. The Bible speaks in different ways about thechurch. God's presence and initiative in the church as his people of the covenant is that which makes the faith community the church. Faith, the relation with Jahwe in the Old Testament and with Jesus Christ iri the New Testament, is that which distinguishes the members of the faith community from those who do not belong to it. The handling of membership developed in such a way that membership issues constitutes the delimitation of churches amongst each other. That hampers the visible unity of the church. In the last chapter an attempt was made to formulate guidelines for the handling of membership in such a way that the unity of the church is emphasized while the confessional base of the church is protected at the same time. In this process a distinction is made between the delimitation of the church against the world on the one hand and the delimitation of churches amongst each other on the other hand. An attempt is made to unite the soteriological and the canonical meaning of the baptism in the membership practice. Baptism, as the sacrament of incorporation .into the church of Jesus Christ is fundamental in the acknowledgment of membership and membership privileges in the congregation.

Full textThis assignment takes a look at the relevance of the declaration signed on the day of legitimation by future pastors of the Ned. Geref. Kerk. It is evaluated according to its use for pastors as a guide for speaking about God contextually and in unity. A hermeneutical approach is used in which the NGK’s three confessions of unity, the Reformed confessional tradition and the history of the NGK aid in testing the relevance of this declaration. The initial role of the signing of confessions as a deed that creates unity and identity helps to show how the current declaration fails to continue with this role. It is therefore necessary that the NGK reconsiders their use and wording of the declaration. The conclusion includes a proposal for an alternative declaration which focuses on responsible hermeneutics rather than the content of teachings.

Full textFor a variety of reasons, many churches in our cultural moment do not include creeds in their corporate worship. Some associate creeds with the disastrous hubris and overreach of the Modernist church as it attempted to nail down, and be the arbiter of, what is true. Others see them as simply boring and irrelevant relics of a bygone era and style.Yet in their right place, creeds have an important role to play today, framing the story of faith, and declaring the central core of what the local worshipping community holds in common with the church across the ages. Just as the lyrics of a song can seem lifeless without the music, so too, creeds can seem lifeless when extracted out of the life of faith.
In 2005 I led a team to design a new emerging church worship service for the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler which was called SouthRidge. As the service flourished and the liturgy began to settle into a familiar pattern, I noticed that the service was consistently devoid of creeds. There was a sense that something was missing, yet many in our new, young congregation had a distaste and distrust of prescribed corporate readings said by rote. We wondered if there were new ways of experiencing the Apostles Creed that might make it more accessible to a new generation.
In 2013 I led a team from our church to explore new ways of experiencing the Apostles' Creed. We developed eight different encounters with the Creed for both corporate worship and on-line resources. In particular, we found the encounter we called a "Creedal Testimony" to be a highly helpful way to experience the Apostles' Creed. This paper examines the history of the Apostles' Creed, the development and use of the eight encounters we created, and evaluates the impact these encounters had on our local community. The paper concludes with some tentative suggestions as to which of these encounters may be most helpful to other faith communities.

Our thesis supports that the designers’ documentation practices feed an « historiographical project » at the heart of videogame design, involving both a project of ludic mediation (communicating the object’s gameplay) and one of historical mediation (representing the past). We present in which cases the historical mediation serves the ludic mediation, that is to say, how representations of the past are used to communicate the game’s rules, objectives and mechanics. We then show how the ludic mediation serves the historical mediation, that is how designers, while summoning historical sources in the creative process, are adopting practices revealing of a critical distance as well as a reflexion on the specificity of the ludic engagement of the player’s engagement with the past

Full textlntroduction: The physical stability of emulsions can be evaluated through droplets distribution evaluation, rheological properties, thermal analysis, microscopy and others. Objective: Evaluate the physical stability of emulsions containg different concentrations of anionic (A - potassium cetyl phosphate 3, 5 e 7%) and non-ionic emulsifiers (N - glyceril monostearate, 3, 5 e 7%), and the influence ofthe scale-up processo Methodology: Evaluate the droplets distribution with laser diffraction, rheology analysis, microscopy and thermogravimetry (TG). Results and Conc1usion: The values of 90% of the droplets were below 92.66 µm, 50.28µm and 38.80µm, respectively for 3, 5 and 7% ofN emulsifier. For system A, 90% ofthe droplets were below 3.85µm, 4.89µm and 63.57µm, for 3, 5 and 7%. The scale-up process influenced both systems, with an increase in the viscosity on system A from 6.614 Pa.s to 81.55 Pa.s and from 3.366 Pa.s to 7.153 Pa.s for system N. ln the TG analysis, only bulk water could be detected in system N and, in the system A, both interlamellar and bulk water were detected (initial and stability).

Future crewed missions present a logistical challenge that is unprecedented in human spaceflight. Astronauts will travel farther from Earth than ever before, and stay in space for longer, without access to regular resupply or the option to abort and return home quickly in the event of an emergency. Under these conditions, supportability - that is, the set of characteristics of a system that drive the amount of resources required to enable safe and effective system operations - will be a much more significant driver of system lifecycle properties than it has been in the past. Many of the strategies that are currently used to mitigate risk for human spaceflight will no longer be available, feasible, or effective. To enable the human exploration missions of the future, new supportability strategies must be identified, characterized, developed, and implemented.
This dissertation addresses this problem by developing and presenting a new methodology for modeling and multiobjective optimization of supportability strategies, minimizing mass and maintenance crew time requirements subject to constraints on risk. The supportability strategy optimization problem is encoded as a multiobjective Constraint Optimization Problem (COP), with a set of decision variables defining a range of supportability strategy options related to level of maintenance, On-Demand Manufacturing (ODM), commonality, redundancy, and distributed functionality. A supportability model is developed which enables evaluation of the mass and crew time associated with a given assignment to those decision variables, or the lower bounds on those objective values associated with a partial assignment.
The resulting model, called Mass, Crew time, and Risk-based Optimization of Supportability Strategies (MCROSS), advances the state of the art in space mission supportability analysis by enabling holistic, rapid, multiobjective optimization and evaluation of the tradeoffs between mass, crew time, and risk for future missions. Model outputs are verified against results from Monte Carlo simulation, and validated via comparison to an existing state-of-the-art NASA supportability model and to flight maintenance data from the International Space Station (ISS). MCROSS is then demonstrated using two case studies, one based on a notional system and the other examining the ISS Oxygen Generation Assembly (OGA). The notional case study is used to validate optimization results against the Pareto frontier identified via full enumeration.
The second case study demonstrates the application of this methodology to a real-world system, showing that MCROSS can identify supportability strategies offering lower mass and crew time options than current approaches. A series of sensitivity analyses are also presented to demonstrate the application of MCROSS in an iterative design process. These results, and the associated analysis capability, provide a powerful analysis tool that can help inform system development and mission design by characterizing tradeoffs between mass, crew time, and risk, along with the underlying strategy decisions. The results and implications of this research are discussed, along with assumptions and limitations. Finally, the contributions of this research are summarized along with potential areas of future work.
