ObjectivesThere is uncertainty about when the first cases of COVID-19 appeared in Spain. We aimed to determine whether influenza diagnoses masked early COVID-19 cases and estimate numbers of undetected COVID-19 cases.DesignTime-series study of influenza and COVID-19 cases, 2010–2020.SettingPrimary care, Catalonia, Spain.ParticipantsPeople registered in primary-care practices, covering >6 million people and >85% of the population.Main outcome measuresWeekly new cases of influenza and COVID-19 clinically diagnosed in primary care.AnalysesDaily counts of both cases were computed using the total cases recorded over the previous 7 days to avoid weekly effects. Epidemic curves were characterised for the 2010–2011 to 2019–2020 influenza seasons. Influenza seasons with a similar epidemic curve and peak case number as the 2019–2020 season were used to model expected case numbers with Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average models, overall and stratified by age. Daily excess influenza cases were defined as the number of observed minus expected cases.ResultsFour influenza season curves (2011–2012, 2012–2013, 2013–2014 and 2016–2017) were used to estimate the number of expected cases of influenza in 2019–2020. Between 4 February 2020 and 20 March 2020, 8017 (95% CI: 1841 to 14 718) excess influenza cases were identified. This excess was highest in the 15–64 age group.ConclusionsCOVID-19 cases may have been present in the Catalan population when the first imported case was reported on 25 February 2020. COVID-19 carriers may have been misclassified as influenza diagnoses in primary care, boosting community transmission before public health measures were taken. The use of clinical codes could misrepresent the true occurrence of the disease. Serological or PCR testing should be used to confirm these findings. In future, this surveillance of excess influenza could help detect new outbreaks of COVID-19 or other influenza-like pathogens, to initiate early public health responses.

O ano de 2020 ficará marcado na memória mundial como o ano da pandemia de Covid-19. Embora a doença tenha eclodido na China no final de 2019, a sua propagação foi posterior e veio colocar em causa a sociedade globalizada, com efeitos sociais, políticos e económicos graves, mas ainda a serem determinados em toda a sua extensão. Na cobertura do surto o jornalismo, em crise há algu- mas décadas (Zelizer, 2004; 2009; 2015; 2017), reassumiu um papel central e ad- quiriu um novo vigor, viajando por múltiplos dispositivos e écrans (Deuze, 2019). Em Portugal, num cenário de isolamento, predominantemente familiar, a televisão emergiu como elo social (Wolton, 1994), confirmando que continua ser o médium dominante (ERC, 2016, 2019; OBERCOM, 2018; Statista, 2019). Neste contexto, a nossa homenagem a Nelson Traquina tem como objetivo apresentar, comen- tar e discutir a sua contribuição para o estudo do jornalismo em Portugal a partir da análise da cobertura jornalística televisiva da crise pandémica. Com este fim, recuperámos estudos teóricos sobre as Teorias da Notícia e os estudos empíri- cos sobre o HIV/SIDA realizados pelo autor (por exemplo, Traquina, 1993; 2002; 2004; 2010; Traquina e al., 2001). Elegemos um corpus de análise empírico, com- preendido por blocos de jornais televisivos dos canais generalistas RTP1, SIC e TVI. Utilizamos uma metodologia fundada na construção de uma base de dados em File Maker Pro inspirada nos trabalhos de Traquina sobre o HIV/SIDA. Os re- sultados obtidos, ainda que com caráter exploratório, permitem a discussão das teorias da notícia enquanto construção (Traquina, 1993) e o papel das rotinas na produção da informação televisiva.

We present a dataset of the monthly cases of pipeline vandalism in Nigeria from January 2015 to January 2021. Data used in this study were collated from the Monthly Financial and Operations Reports (MFOR) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Each MFOR provides cases of pipeline vandalism during a 12-month span from five key locations; Mosimi, Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Warri, and Gombe. Recorded incidences of pipeline vandalism from these locations were summed and assembled into five groups; namely: historical data, prior-COVID-19, COVID-19 lockdown, and post-COVID-19 lockdown. The data were grouped based on dates. These dates were January 2015 to July 2019, August 2019 to January 2020, February 2020 to July 2020, and August 2020 to January 2021 respectively. The historical data were further sub-divided into four sub-groups based on the deployment (May 2016) of sophisticated weapons, satellite imagery, and geographical information system into the security apparatus to checkmate pipeline vandalism. The four sub-groups are sub-group A (one-year before deployment), sub-group B (the year of deployment), sub-group C (one-year after deployment), and sub-group D (two-years after deployment). The dates span for each sub-group is May 2015-April 2016, May 2016-April 2017, May 2017-April 2018, and May 2018-April 2019 respectively. After the deployment of GIS devices in May 2016, the accumulated national number of pipeline vandalism cases declined from 400 cases in January 2016 to 293 in February 2016, and 259 cases in March 2016 as opposed to 60, 49, and 94 cases in the same months in 2017; but over the years, 2017 to 2021 these methods have proved less effective, and cases of pipeline vandalism have risen once more. Similar changes in the number of cases and patterns were observed during the COVID-19 movement restrictions. From the dataset, it can be seen that COVID-19 influenced incidences of pipeline vandalism.

The H1N1 pandemic of 2009-2010, MERS epidemic of 2012, Ebola epidemics of 2013-2016 and 2018-2020, Zika epidemic of 2015-2016, and COVID-19 pandemic of 2019-2021, are recent examples in the long history of epidemics that demonstrate the enormous global impact of viral infection. The rapid development of safe and effective vaccines and therapeutics has proven vital to reducing morbidity and mortality from newly emerging viruses. Structural biology methods can be used to determine how antibodies elicited during infection or vaccination target viral proteins and identify viral epitopes that correlate with potent neutralization. Here we review how structural and molecular biology approaches have contributed to our understanding of antibody recognition of pathogenic viruses, specifically HIV-1, SARS-CoV-2, and Zika. Determining structural correlates of neutralization of viruses has guided the design of vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, and small molecule inhibitors in response to the global threat of viral epidemics.

Due to the self-isolation caused by coronavirus, K-pop fans have used social media such as Twitter in order to engage, specially, in political, racial and gender agendas. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the demonstration and the activism of the K-pop fandom during the period of COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, we rely on theoretical assumptions which allow us to comprehend the fandom (Hills 2017, Jenkins 2015), conceiving the activism of fandom and, mainly, the cyberactivism (Queiroz 2017), as a form of resistance (Amaral, Souza, and Monteiro 2014), which allows this theme to be allied with the reception studies (Bonin 2018, Fígaro 2000, 2009, 2019, Jacks 2015) and the data fandom (Zhang and Negus 2020). Among the demonstrations performed during COVID-19 pandemic, we highlight the support of K-poppers to the movement #BlackLivesMatter (Yang 2016) through social media as platforming elements for fan activism. Thus, this paper has made possible a reflection based on bibliographies regarding the reception of K-pop fans about the antiracist mobilizations, as well as their protagonism related to the metrics in favor of cyberactivism.

O enfrentamento do Brasil à pandemia de Covid-19, doença causada pelo novo coronavírus, tem sido atravessado pelo discurso negligente e negacionista do presidente, Jair Bolsonaro. Por consequência do perfil do maior gestor público do país, a pandemia no Brasil acentua a vulnerabilidade de certos grupos sociais e, dentre estes grupos de risco estão as mulheres. Nesse sentido, nos interessa analisar os discursos, ações e medidas misóginas difundidas pelo presidente Jair Bolsonaro ao longo do contexto pandêmico para assim compreender a constituição do seu ethos no discurso na cerimônia de Comemoração do Dia Internacional da Mulher, no dia 08 de março do ano eleitoral de 2022. Para tanto, os acontecimentos discursivos mencionados serão analisados a partir de aportes da análise do discurso de linha francesa (FOUCAULT, 1960; 1968; 2008; PÊCHEUX, 1993, 2002; ORLANDI, 2007, 2012; AMOSSY, 2019; CHARAUDEAU, 2014, 2016, 2018; MAINGUENEAU, 1997, 1998, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014), além das reflexões realizadas por diferentes teóricos a respeito das questões de gênero. Espera-se, ao mobilizar as condições de produção e a relação entre linguagem e ideologia, examinar como o poder público tem contribuído com ações de ódio contra as mulheres, levando à crescente violência de gênero no país; enquanto o segundo, o discurso presidencial comemorativo, será analisado a partir das estratégias discursivas que buscam produzir efeitos de persuasão no destinatário e, desse modo, constituem e representam o ethos de Bolsonaro e do seu governo.

Covid-19 pandemic forced, at the final rounds of 2019–2020 season, in many different sport leagues worldwide, teams to play without an audience. Therefore, the present paper aims to compare the home advantage score in the last ten rounds in 2019–2020 season with the first 24 rounds in same season using Pollard’s (1986) and Matos et al.’s (2020) methods. In addition, comparisons across different seasons (2016–2017; 2017–2018; 2018–2019 and 2019–2020) using the same methods were also analyzed. Results showed no differences (p > 0.05) between first 24 rounds and the last 10 in 2019–2020 season as well as in the 3 previous seasons. With Pollard’s method, no differences (p > 0.05) were also found among those four seasons on global (all 34 rounds) home advantage. However, a significance difference between 2017–2018 and 2019–2020 (p < 0.05) was founded using Matos et al.’s (2020) method, which is an indicator of the importance of using complementary methods when analyzing the same realities. Overall, despite what might be expectable from recent findings, the lack of an audience in the last 10 rounds of Portuguese Football League 2019–2020 season, due to COVID-19 pandemic, did not affect home advantage. Therefore, future studies could try to analyze other different variables in Portuguese Football League, such as referees’ behaviors, rules changing (e.g., the possibility of making five substitutions, instead of three), crowd dimension and density as well as include variables about odds as forecasts in football being played without crowds.

Background: The COVID-19 infection played a key role in the discontinuation of patient treatment, such as allergen-specific immunotherapy, in chronic diseases.Objectives: We conducted a retrospective observational study at Verona University Hospital, Verona, Italy, to assess the level of adherence to sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) in patients affected by allergic rhinitis and mild asthma.Materials and Methods: We compared and analysed data related to first prescription and collection of 5-grass-pollen 300-index of reactivity (IR) SLIT and tablet lyophilisate, containing 75,000 standardized quality tablet units (SQ-T) allergen extract of grass-pollen from Phleum pratense L, for the five-year period 2017-2021.In particular we considered the group of naïve patients from 2017 who completed pre-COVID treatment (2017-2019) and the group of naïve patients from 2019 who completed treatment during the COVID period (2019-2021). The significance test used was Student’s t-test, and P < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant.Results: In the three-year period 2017-2019, 264 naïve patients began treatment in 2017, of these 181 continued in 2018, 135 continued in 2019. Instead, for the period 2017–2019, there were 226 naïve patients in 2019; of these 139 continued in 2020, and 102 in 2021.Conclusions: COVID-19 did not seem to influence adherence to SLIT, which declined independently even in during the pre-pandemic 3-year period.

The purpose of this study is to explore the aspects of “gentrification” and “degentrification” other than economic factors. To this end, this study focused on the gentrification situations occurring before and after the COVID-19 pandemic in the Itaewon area, South Korea, by using semantic network analysis. We analyzed news articles on the gentrification phenomenon in the Itaewon area reported in South Korea. As a result, gentrification in the Itaewon area is divided into four stages. The first stage of gentrification (2010~2014) is initial stage of gentrification. Gentrification stage 2 (2015~2017) is the period of commercialization as a gentrification growth stage. The first stage of degentrification (2018~2019) is the maturation period of gentrification. The second stage of degentrification (2019~30 June 2020) is the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. The results confirm the existing theoretical frameworks while building a more nuanced definition through operationalizing gentrification and degentrification. As with the etymology of the term, the degentrification phenomenon can only be revealed when the gentrification phenomenon is prominently displayed. This study has an implication in that it tried to phenomenologically examine the specific phenomenon of the next stage of gentrification through the term “degentrification”.

Embora os fóruns de discussão em ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem (AVAs) venham sendo usados há muito tempo (CARDOSO; VALENTE, 2017); com o distanciamento físico imposto pela pandemia de Covid-19, sua importância foi acentuada, principalmente por se tornar uma das poucas chances de construção colaborativa de conhecimento. Além disso, para os docentes em formação, os fóruns podem representar também um espaço para expressar suas emoções e compartilhar suas crenças. Neste artigo, buscamos identificar algumas dessas crenças e emoções que emergiram das narrativas pessoais de quatro licenciandos de um estágio supervisionado de uma universidade pública. Entretanto, antes de passarmos para a análise das falas desses docentes em formação, apresentamos nossa fundamentação teórica, a partir da discussão sobre os seguintes conceitos: ensino remoto emergencial e cibercultura (SANTOS 2019, 2020), crenças, identidades e emoções (ARAGÃO, 2010; 2011; BARCELOS, 2004; 2007; 2009; KAJALA et al, 2015). A análise dessas narrativas deixa claro como esta nova realidade, que é o ensino remoto emergencial (ERE), afeta esses licenciandos, tanto como alunos quanto como professores. Concluímos, concordando com Barcelos (2011), Barcelos e Aragão (2018), Abrahão (2004), Bonfim e Conceição (2009) e Silva (2016), que na formação docente deve haver espaço para a discussão sobre crenças, identidades e emoções.

Statistical methods such as multiple linear regression (MLR) and classification and regression tree (CART) analysis were used to build prediction models for the levels of pollutant concentrations in Macao using meteorological and air quality historical data to three periods: (i) from 2013 to 2016, (ii) from 2015 to 2018, and (iii) from 2013 to 2018. The variables retained by the models were identical for nitrogen dioxide (NO2), particulate matter (PM10), PM2.5, but not for ozone (O3) Air pollution data from 2019 was used for validation purposes. The model for the 2013 to 2018 period was the one that performed best in prediction of the next-day concentrations levels in 2019, with high coefficient of determination (R2), between predicted and observed daily average concentrations (between 0.78 and 0.89 for all pollutants), and low root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and biases (BIAS). To understand if the prediction model was robust to extreme variations in pollutants concentration, a test was performed under the circumstances of a high pollution episode for PM2.5 and O3 during 2019, and the low pollution episode during the period of implementation of the preventive measures for COVID-19 pandemic. Regarding the high pollution episode, the period of the Chinese National Holiday of 2019 was selected, in which high concentration levels were identified for PM2.5 and O3, with peaks of daily concentration exceeding 55 μg/m3 and 400 μg/m3, respectively. The 2013 to 2018 model successfully predicted this high pollution episode with high coefficients of determination (of 0.92 for PM2.5 and 0.82 for O3). The low pollution episode for PM2.5 and O3 was identified during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic period, with a low record of daily concentration for PM2.5 levels at 2 μg/m3 and O3 levels at 50 μg/m3, respectively. The 2013 to 2018 model successfully predicted the low pollution episode for PM2.5 and O3 with a high coefficient of determination (0.86 and 0.84, respectively). Overall, the results demonstrate that the statistical forecast model is robust and able to correctly reproduce extreme air pollution events of both high and low concentration levels.

Per ottimizzare la gestione delle risorse e dei posti letto disponibili all'interno dei reparti dedicati alla gestione dei pazienti affetti da SARS Cov 2, per aumentare il turn-over dei posti letto, è stato necessario uniformare i criteri di identificazione dei setting assistenziali in relazione alla gravità del quadro clinico. In tal senso, non può non evidenziarsi che il numero di casi sintomatici che necessitavano di ricovero era in continuo aumento su tutto il territorio e, di conseguenza, tutti i pazienti asintomatici, di norma, dovevano essere gestiti a domicilio o in strutture dedicate a bassa intensità di cura, in regime di isolamento. Design Present study is a retrospective analysis of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Case Log System. Participants Anonymized graduating resident case logs from 2011 to 2020 academic years (AYs) were examined for this study. Methods Regression analysis for each procedure category was performed to identify trends between 2011 and 2019 AYs. Unpaired two-tailed t-test compared 2018 to 2019 and 2019 to 2020 AY's for each category surgeon (S) and as surgeon and assistant (S + A). Main Outcome Measures Mean and median cases as (S) and (S + A) during 2011 to 2019 AYs. Comparison between 2018 to 2019 and 2019 to 2020 AY's for each category as (S) and (S + A) to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Results Total ophthalmology procedures as (S) rose from a mean of 479.6 to 601.3 (p < 0.001; R 2 = 0.96; Δ/year = 16.9) and a median of 444 to 537 (p < 0.001; R 2 = 0.97; Δ/year = 13.1). Total procedures as (S + A) rose from a mean of 698.1 to 768 (p < 0.01; R 2 = 0.83; Δ/year = 9.07) and a median of 677 to 734 (p < 0.05; R 2 = 0.61; Δ/year = 6.64). Cataract procedures as (S) rose from a mean of 152.8 to 208 (p < 0.001; R 2 = 0.99; Δ/year = 7.98) and a median of 146 to 197 (p < 0.001; R 2 = 0.97; Δ/year = 7.87). Cataract procedures as both (S + A) rose from a mean 231.4 to 268.7 (p < 0.001; R 2 = 0.95; Δ/year = 5.5) and a median of 213 to 254 (p < 0.001; R 2 = 0.93; Δ/year = 5.33). Between 2018 to 2019 and 2019 to 2020 AYs, the first pandemic year was associated with significant reductions in total procedures (601.3–533.7 [p < 0.0001]) as (S) and 768.0 to 694.4 (p < 0.0001) as (S + A), cataract surgery (208–162.2 [p < 0.0001]) as (S) and 268.7 to 219.1 (p < 0.0001) as (S + A), and glaucoma surgery (16.3–14.2 [p = 0.0068]) as (S) and 25.6 to 22.6 (p = 0.0063) as (S + A). Conclusion During 2011 to 2019 AYs, cataract, intravitreal injections, glaucoma, and total procedures increased significantly. During the early period of the COVID-19 pandemic (2019–2020 AY), national halting of elective procedures had a precipitous effect on resident cataract surgery experience to volumes similar to 2013 to 2014 AY where the mean was twice the current required minimum number. With few exceptions, other procedure volumes remained stable.

Randomized controlled trials (RCT) were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but no systematic analysis has evaluated the overall impact of COVID-19 on non-COVID-19-related RCTs. The ClinicalTrials.gov database was queried in February 2020. Eligible studies included all randomized trials with a start date after 1 January 2010 and were active during the period from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2020. The effect of the pandemic period on non-COVID-19 trials was determined by piece-wise regression models using 11 March 2020 as the start of the pandemic and by time series analysis (models fitted using 2015–2018 data and forecasted for 2019–2020). The study endpoints were early trial stoppage, normal trial completion, and trial activation. There were 161,377 non-COVID-19 trials analyzed. The number of active trials increased annually through 2019 but decreased in 2020. According to the piece-wise regression models, trial completion was not affected by the pandemic (p = 0.56) whereas trial stoppage increased (p = 0.001). There was a pronounced decrease in trial activation early during the pandemic (p < 0.001) which then recovered. The findings from the time series models were consistent comparing forecasted and observed results (trial completion p = 0.22; trial stoppage p < 0.01; trial activation, p = 0.01). During the pandemic, there was an increase in non-COVID-19 RCTs stoppage without changes in RCT completion. There was a sharp decline in new RCTs at the beginning of the pandemic, which later recovered.

Abstract To suppress the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Chinese government has implemented nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs). Because COVID-19 and influenza have similar means of transmission, NPIs targeting COVID-19 may also affect influenza transmission. In this study, the extent to which NPIs targeting COVID-19 have affected seasonal influenza transmission was explored. Indicators of seasonal influenza activity in the epidemiological year 2019–2020 were compared with those in 2017–2018 and 2018–2019. The incidence rate of seasonal influenza reduced by 64% in 2019–2020 (P < .001). These findings suggest that NPIs aimed at controlling COVID-19 significantly reduced seasonal influenza transmission in China.

PdP dalam Pengajian Islam lebih sinonim dengan amalan PdP secara bersemuka meskipun Pendidikan 4.0 menekankan kaedah penyampaian yang transformatif dan pengaplikasian pentaksiran alternatif. Keupayaan bidang Pengajian Islam mengadaptasi ciri-ciri ini khususnya pentaksiran alternatif dianggap terhad dan kurang diyakini kerana umumnya masih ramai pensyarah yang selesa melaksanakan penilaian sumatif atau peperiksaan akhir. Artikel ini bertujuan menganalisis amalan pentaksiran alternatif dalam kursus-kursus yang ditawarkan oleh semua program prasiswazah Pengajian Islam di Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia serta menganalisis bentuk-bentuk penilaian yang digunakan dalam PdP. Kajian ini adalah kajian kualitatif yang menggunakan reka bentuk analisis kandungan. Data dikumpulkan daripada analisis dokumen ke atas proforma kursus berdasarkan penawaran kursus pada sesi akademik 2018-2019 dan 2019-2020, kemudiannya dianalisis secara statistik deskriptif. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa amalan pentaksiran alternatif dalam pengajian Islam telah bermula pada sesi 2012-2013 namun jumlah kursusnya sangat sedikit dan tidak konsisten. Namun, dengan adanya pelbagai inisiatif di bawah Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia (Pendidikan Tinggi) 2015-2025 dan Kerangka Pendidikan 4.0 UKM yang dilaksanakan pada tahun 2017 telah mendorong peningkatan bilangan kursus yang menggunakan penilaian berterusan pada sesi 2018-2019 dan 2019-2020. Kajian mendapati pelbagai kaedah penilaian yang memenuhi elemen Pendidikan 4.0 telah digunakan merangkumi pembelajaran berasaskan aktiviti, kerja lapangan, penulisan esei dan pembentangan, penganjuran seminar serta penggunaan teknologi digital. Hal ini menjelaskan bahawa amalan PdP Pendidikan 4.0 dalam bidang Pengajian Islam mampu dilaksanakan dan berpeluang dijalankan secara maksima khususnya dalam mengimplementasi kaedah pentaksiran alternatif yang sahih dan autentik. Ia juga memberi impak positif ke atas kemahiran insaniah pelajar dan pengalaman pembelajaran, selain mengurangkan kebergantungan pensyarah kepada peperiksaan akhir untuk mengukur hasil pembelajaran kursus.

e18682 Background: COVID-19 Pandemic has impacted the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and has been shown to increase the late stage cancer at presentation. Most of studies has made year-wise comparison with 2019 for this conclusion. Same studies have also concluded that there was no difference in treatment duration after the diagnosis. Methods: We conducted an IRB-approved retrospective chart review of 505 (255 in 2018 and 250 in 2019) patients diagnosed with Breast Cancer from January 2018 to December 2019 for pre-COVID era and 206 patients diagnosed from March to December 2020 i.e. COVID era. We compared the race, histology, and stage at presentation. Patients from COVID era were compared with newly diagnosed breast cancer in 2018, 2019 patients individually and together. All the above characteristics. were compared between COVID and Pre-COVID era. Continuous variable was compared by T-test and Categorical variable were compared with details were recorded. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis. Results: Median age of diagnosis for 2018, 2019, and COVID era was 62 (38-83), 59 (37-80) and 64(39-97) respectively. The proportion of white Race during pre-COVID era was 87.52% compared to 89.32% during the COVID era without any significant difference between all 3 years. For Histology, there was significant difference between proportion of histology between 2019 and 2020 (p-value 0.003) whereas no difference between 2018 and 2020 (p-value – 0.21) or combined pre-COVID and COVID era. Incase of staging, significantly more late stage cancer was seen in the COVID era compared to 2019 but there was no significant difference (p-value – 0.225). Same finding was seen between combined pre-COVID and COVID era (p-value - 0.94). Conclusions: Findings from our study suggest that a longer-term trend analysis is required for to find out the accurate impact of COVID-19 pandemic on breast cancer and cancer in general. A population-based study incorporating data from multicenter and multiple year should be done to assess the real effect of COVDI pandemic.[Table: see text]

This study aimed to analyze the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on cognitive function of community-dwelling elderly individuals. Five-year (2016 to 2020) longitudinal data of the Korea Frailty and Aging Cohort Study (KFACS) were used. There were 1559 participants in 2016 and 1455 in 2017 aged 72–84 years. Follow-up was conducted at two-year intervals. We selected participants from the database of the 2017 and 2018 surveys for intergroup comparison over 2-year follow-ups. The number of study patients in the 2017-Group was 1027 and that of the 2018-Group was 879. In the intergroup comparison, the mean difference of word list memory score from 2018 to 2020 was −0.14, while that from 2017 to 2019 was 0.53. The mean difference of word list recall score from 2018 to 2020 was −0.25, while that from 2017 to 2019 was 0.03. These were significant even after adjusting confounding variables. In the intragroup comparison, the word list memory and recall scores from 2018 to 2020 were more decreased than those from 2016 to 2018. Conclusively, cognitive function of the Korean elderly cohort declined much more during the COVID-19 pandemic than before the pandemic, particularly in terms of memory and recall function.

It is crucial for a city to ensure economic stability and growth, along with social security and prosperity, not only for the present, but also for future generations. Increasingly, researchers are highlighting the need to apply sustainable urban growth principles to the field of urban development, arguing that this would reduce the negative impacts of urbanization processes (poverty, air pollution, unemployment, and crime). At the same time, cities are competing with one another to maintain their position in the urban hierarchy, not only in the short term, but also in the long term. The COVID-19 pandemic affected many areas of our everyday life: over 5.85 million deaths, increased unemployment, the introduction of restrictions, the closure of national borders, and various other circumstances have all undoubtedly affected to a certain degree those factors which serve to influence competitiveness. The aim of this article is to conduct an integrated competitiveness assessment of the Baltic capitals within the context of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic for the period 2015–2020, according to an integrated assessment model for urban competitiveness (MDK), which is based upon the principles of sustainable development. A systematic and comparative analysis of the concepts published in the scientific literature has been performed, the concepts of sustainable city and sustainable urban competitiveness have been formed, research and methods of urban competitiveness evaluation have been carried out, and a comprehensive competitiveness assessment of the results of the study showed that the evaluation of integrated competitiveness of a sustainable city in the context of the impact of COVID-19 (using the Baltic capitals as an example in the period 2015–2020), in terms of the multi-criteria SAW and TOPSIS evaluation methods, is in the highest position in 2016–2019. Vilnius is in second place during the whole period 2016–2019. Riga takes third place in 2015–2019 (except in 2020, when it exchanges places with Vilnius and takes second place). Meanwhile, the results of the COPRAS multicriteria method differ from those discussed above. In 2016, 2019, and 2020, Tallinn is in the highest position, and in 2015, 2017, and 2018, it is surpassed by Vilnius. Riga remained in third place from 2015 to 2019. In 2020, Vilnius took over this position.

Over the last several years, the recommended use of the live-attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) for children has evolved in the United States (US) in response to evidence of a potential decrease in LAIV effectiveness based on post-market monitoring. These issues were not observed in Canada or elsewhere; consequently, recommendations from Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) and the US Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) on whether to use LAIV differed for two influenza seasons (2016–2017 and 2017–2018). This retrospective describes how NACI arrived at its recommendations in response to post-market signals of reduced LAIV performance from the US in 2013–2014 and again in 2015–2016. NACI’s experience with LAIV marks the first time in Canada where a preferential recommendation on the use of an influenza vaccine in a routine immunization program was reversed. This experience highlights the importance of ongoing post-market monitoring of vaccines, international collaboration and careful consideration of local context to inform vaccine recommendations. NACI’s capacity for timely responses to post-market vaccine performance signals will facilitate responsiveness to similar post-market monitoring signals from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines.

Lombardy was the first area in Italy to have an outbreak of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) at the beginning of 2020. In this context, cancer has been reported as a major risk factor for adverse outcomes and death, so oncology societies have quickly released guidelines on cancer care during the pandemic. The aim of this study was to investigate the management of cancer patients and oncological treatments during the COVID-19 pandemic and to describe the containment measures performed in our outpatient clinic at Pavia (Lombardy). A comparison with the same period of the four previous years (2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016) was also performed. Using our electronic databases, we evaluated the number and characteristics of patients accessing the hospital for anticancer drug infusion from 24 February, 2020 to 30 April, 2020 and the number of radiological exams performed. Although a significant reduction in access for therapy was seen when compared with 2019 (2590 versus 2974, access rate ratio (ARR) = 0.85, p < 0.001), no significant differences in access numbers and ARR was evident between 2020 and 2018, 2017, or 2016 (2590 versus 2626 (ARR = 0.07), 2660 (ARR = 0.99), and 2694 (ARR = 0.96), respectively, p > 0.05). In 2020, 63 patients delayed treatment: 38% for “pandemic fear”, 18% for travel restrictions, 13% for quarantine, 18% for flu syndrome other than COVID-19, and 13% for worsening of clinical conditions and death. Only 7/469 patients developed COVID-19. A significant reduction in radiological exams was found in 2020 versus all the other years considered (211 versus 360, 355, 385, 390 for the years 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016, respectively, p < 0.001). The low incidence of COVID-19 among our cancer patients, along with the hospital policy to control infection, enabled safe cancer treatment and a continuum of care in most patients, while a small fraction of patients experienced a therapeutic delay due to patient-related reasons.

This research is included in the ex post facto study using a causal comparative design. The sample of this study was 37 students of the PJKR offering A class of 2017. Data analysis in this study used the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test technique, the homogeneity test (Ftest), and the difference test in the form of an unrelated sample t test. Based on the data analysis, the result obtained by the coefficient Tcount greater than or equal to Ttable at a significant level of 0,05, meaning that H₀ is rejected and H₁ is accepted. This means that there is a significant difference in the learning achievement values of the theory and practice subject in the 2018/2019 and even 2019/2020 semesters in the 2017 A class Offering students of the PJKR FIK study Program, State University of Malang.
Abstrak: Pandemi Covid-19 yang menyerang di semua negara khususnya di negara Indonesia pada tahun 2020 ini, merubah metode pembelajaran pada jenjang pendidikan yang ada di Indonesia khususnya pembelajaran dari jenjang Sekolah Dasar (SD) sampai ke jenjang Perguruan Tinggi atau Universitas. Penelitian ini mengkaji nilai prestasi belajar mahasiswa program studi PJKR FIK Universitas Negeri Malang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan mengkaji ada tidaknya perbedaan yang signifikan nilai prestasi belajar mata kuliah teori dan praktek mahasiswa angkatan 2017 Off A antara semester genap 2018/2019 dan genap 2019/2020 pada prodi PJKR FIK Universitas Negeri Malang. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam penelitian expost facto dengan menggunakan rancangan causal comparative. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 37 mahasiswa Prodi PJKR offering A angkatan tahun 2017. Analisis data pada penelitian ini menggunakan teknik uji normalitas Kolmogorov-smirnov, uji homogenitas (uji F), dan uji beda dalam bentuk uji t sampel berhubungan. Berdasarkan analisis data diperoleh hasil koefisien Thitung lebih besar sama dengan Ttabel pada taraf signifikan 0,05, artinya bahwa H₀ ditolak dan H₁ diterima. Artinya, ada perbedaan yang signifikan hasil prestasi belajar antara semester genap 2018/2019 (sebelum pandemi Covid-19) dengan semester genap 2019/2020 (sebelum dan saat pandemi Covid-19) pada mahasiswa offering A angkatan 2017 program studi PJKR FIK Universitas Negeri Malang.

Authentic, place-based learning is essential for students of ecological and environmental sciences, providing connection to the discipline and building environmental literacy (O’Neil et al. 2020). In a COVID-affected world where opportunities to provide field-based learning may be limited, evaluating how mobile technologies may be used to enhance the field-based learning experiences of students is increasingly important.
Advances in mobile technologies have seen a surge in customised applications for species identification, data collection and collation aimed at public users and citizen scientists (e.g. iNaturalist: Unger et al. 2020; eBird: Sullivan et al. 2009; FrogID: Rowley et al. 2019). With field-based learning central to ecology and environmental science disciplines, there is a clear opportunity for the expanded use of mobile tools in higher education. We evaluated recent projects through a systematic review of the use of mobile learning technologies and approaches in field-based environmental sciences within higher education over the last decade.
Our search criteria terms encompassed mobile learning, mobile devices, teaching methods, field-based learning, undergraduate students and science disciplines and identified 1613 initial records. After removing irrelevant and duplicate records, 130 studies were identified that implemented mobile learning within science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, with engineering (32/130 studies, 24.6%), geology and geosciences (17/130, 13.1%) and natural/environmental sciences (17/130, 13.1%) the most common. Narrowing this search again to field-based studies, we identified 18 records, most of which (12/18, 66.7%) were in geology and geosciences disciplines.
A range of mobile learning technologies were used in the field, spanning the SAMR continuum (Laurillard 2012) from the substitution of traditional field activities with species identification apps (Pfeiffer et al. 2009; Thomas and Fellowes 2017), and augmentation of field experiences with multimedia resources such as podcasts (Jarvis and Dickie 2010) and other apps and resources viewed on mobile devices (Welsh et al. 2015; France et al. 2016; Unger et al. 2018), through to the modification and reinvention of field-based learning by incorporating multimedia displays, visualisations, games and information hotspots (Habib et al. 2012; Fitzpatrick et al. 2012; Bursztyn et al. 2015), virtual field trips and augmented reality (Stokes et al. 2010; Howard 2011; Litherland and Stott 2012; Kingston et al. 2012; Bursztyn et al. 2017; Prietnall et al. 2019), and customised apps that allow student-generated content (Chang et al. 2012) such as data collection, analysis and reflection (Chatterjea 2012; Wang et al. 2016). Studies used both enterprise and custom-built tools, with most incorporating geolocation capabilities.
Our review criteria only identified two studies in ecology disciplines, both of which utilised an existing enterprise application for species identification (Pfeiffer et al. 2009; Thomas and Fellowes 2017). There remains ample opportunity to develop collaborative mobile learning systems that use custom-built applications for field data collection and are integrated with the learning management systems, such as those in development in collaborative international projects (Bone et al. 2020). We strongly encourage the exploration of the potential for mobile learning in these contexts, and the publication of other projects that have incorporated mobile tools in ecological and environmental sciences curricula.

ABSTRACT: The Covid-19 pandemic that has occurred in the world has harmed economies since 2020, especially Indonesia. Therefore, it is very important to study the impact of this pandemic on the stability of Islamic banking in Indonesia and examine potential signs of post-pandemic recovery. This study examines the stability of Islamic banking in Indonesia. Stability is measured using ROA and Z-score. The data in this study are panel data for Islamic Commercial Banks (BUS) and Islamic Business Units (UUS). The data used is quarterly data for 2016-2020. This study uses the Generalized Method of Moment (GMM). The results of this study are ROA for Assets, CAR, FDR, and Covid-19 do not affect profits. However, NPF and BOPO have a negative effect. Whereas on the Z-score for Assets, CAR FDR has a positive effect. NPF and BOPO harm the stability of Islamic banking, except for Covid-19. Lower efficiency and problematic financing reduce the stability of Islamic banking. In addition, the results of our analysis, based on profitability and financial stability during the quarterly period, Islamic banking was able to survive during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research implies that even though some variables do not significantly affect profits, Islamic banks must still pay attention to other variables, such as ROA, owned assets, CAR, FDR, and Covid-19 which are likely to have a large negative impact on the long term. Apart from that, Islamic banks must also maintain profits and stability to survive and compete with conventional banking amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Penelitian ini menggunakan Generalized Method of Moment (GMM). Hasil penelitian ini adalah ROA untuk Aset, CAR, FDR, dan Covid-19 tidak berpengaruh terhadap keuntungan perbankan syariah. Namun NPF dan BOPO berpengaruh negatif. Sedangkan pada Z-score untuk Aset, CAR FDR berpengaruh positif. NPF dan BOPO berpengaruh negatif terhadap stabilitas perbankan syariah, kecuali Covid-19. Efisiensi yang lebih rendah dan pembiayaan bermasalah mengurangi stabilitas perbankan syariah. Selain itu, hasil analisis, berdasarkan profitabilitas dan stabilitas keuangan selama periode triwulanan, perbankan syariah mampu bertahan selama pandemi. Hasilnya menunjukkan implikasi bahwa meskipun beberapa variabel tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap keuntungan, namun Bank Syariah harus tetap memperhatikan variabel lain, seperti ROA, Aset yang dimiliki, CAR, FDR, dan Covid-19 yang kemungkinan akan terjadi dampak negatif yang besar dalam jangka panjang. Selain itu, Bank Syariah juga harus mampu menjaga keuntungan dan stabilitas agar mampu bertahan dan bersaing dengan perbankan konvensional di tengah pandemi. El texto revisa los discursos del presidente chileno Sebastián Piñera durante los meses de marzo a octubre del año 2020, en medio del desarrollo de la crisis sanitaria producida por la COVID-19. En sus dos presidencias dirigiendo el país andino (2010-2014 / 2018-2022) Piñera ha debido sortear varias crisis sociales: un movimiento estudiantil, entre 2011 y 2012; un estallido de violencia social, en octubre de 2019, y luego la llegada de la COVID-19, en marzo de 2020. Dentro de este contexto el objetivo del artículo es establecer cuáles fueron los elementos discursivos más relevantes dentro del período de crisis sanitaria. Para ello se utilizaron conceptos provenientes de la teoría de representación social y del análisis político del discurso para analizar un conjunto de 27 discursos. El resultado muestra que la crisis de la COVID-19 se utilizó como una oportunidad para reforzar los fundamentos programáticos e ideológicos de la coalición gobernante, con el aval de la eficiencia, la idea de patria y referencias religiosas. Se concluye que el discurso de Piñera constituye un intento de manejar la agenda pública y política basado en la estrategia retórica del devil-angel shift.

Este artigo traz reflexões sobre o trabalho de mulheres jornalistas no Ceará durante a pandemia de Covid-19. Com o isolamento social imposto pelo governo do Estado como uma das ações de combate à pandemia, mulheres tiveram que adequar atividades profissionais ao espaço da casa, dividindo a força de trabalho entre a profissão, as tarefas domésticas e o cuidado com a família (BIROLI, 2018; FEDERICI, 2019; HUWS, 2014). Para observar esse cenário, este estudo de caso exploratório (YIN, 2001) se vale de dados obtidos pela pesquisa nacional “Como trabalham os comunicadores em tempos de pandemia da Covid-19”, realizada pelo Centro de Pesquisa em Comunicação e Trabalho (CPCT-ECA-USP); e de informações procedentes de entrevistas semi-estruturadas com oito jornalistas cearenses . Os resultados apontam que os regimes de home office e rodízio redação-casa, adotados durante a pandemia, aprofundam o cenário já consolidado de precarização do trabalho jornalístico (FÍGARO, 2013; MICK; LIMA, 2013;) e do trabalho de mulheres jornalistas, especificamente (FIGARO, 2018; LELO, 2019;); e geram intensificação do ritmo de trabalho, maior cobrança por produtividade e desgaste psicológico/emocional das profissionais; além de evidenciarem uma divisão sexual do trabalho ainda prevalente, porém seletiva.

Background: This study examined the effects of a five-month lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic on physical fitness parameters in urban adolescent male and female students. Methods: Two hundred and ninety-three male and female students (age: 15.8 ± 0.3 years) who attended the fourth grade of the same high school during the years 2016–2017 (first control group), 2018–2019 (second control group) and 2020–2021 (lockdown group) took part in the present study. Results: The percentage of overweight and obese students, according to body mass index, increased in males from 16.0% (2016–2017) and 14.6% (2018–2019), to 36.7% in 2020–2021 (p < 0.01), and in females from 8.6% (2016–2017) and 7.0% (2016–2017), to 25.6% in 2020–2021 (p < 0.01). Lower body fitness, as assessed by jumping, sprinting and agility tests, was impaired for both males and females after the lockdown compared with the 2016–2017 and 2018–2019 cohorts (vertical jumps: 10.4–15.1%; p < 0.01; d = 0.58–1.01, 30 m sprint: 3.7–4.9%; p < 0.01; d = 0.62–0.74; 505 agility test: from 6.1% to 9.4%; p < 0.01; d = 0.80–1.04). However, flexibility and performance in upper-body fitness tests (handgrip maximum isometric strength and medicine ball throws with different loads) was significantly reduced only in males after the lockdown (p < 0.05 to 0.01). Conclusions: These results suggest that a five-month lockdown negative influenced the physical fitness of adolescent students. Notably, greater reductions were observed in upper body strength, power and flexibility in males than in females. These results highlight the need to maintain strength, power and body mass during long periods of inactivity in adolescent populations.

Summary Background In response to the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic the Austrian government issued a lockdown from 16 March to 15 May 2020. As periods of economic and emotional burden have proven to detrimentally affect people’s psychological health, healthcare officials warned that the strict measures could have a serious impact on psychological health, leading to an increase in suicide attempts. Thus, the objective was to provide evidence for this assumption. Methods All adult patients admitted to the trauma resuscitation room of the Medical University of Vienna during the lockdown period following a suicide attempt were included in this analysis, forming the study group. Suicidal patients treated during the same period in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019 were pooled to create the control group. The year 2017 was excluded because another major hospital in Vienna was partially closed due to a change in infrastructure, resulting in an increased number of severely injured patients treated at our department. As the lockdown caused a markedly decreased number of patients admitted due to other reasons than suicide the actual number was replaced with the average number of patients admitted in the relevant previous 4 years. Results By comparing the study and the control group based on this realistic estimate we revealed an increase in attempted suicides during the lockdown period (p = 0.001). Demographic, mental health-related, and injury specific patient data did not differ between the groups. Conclusion The results strongly urge for an improvement in crisis intervention and suicide prevention measures in the event of a future lockdown.

COIVD-19 vaccination of medical students is essential since these students will have contact with patients and will become future healthcare leaders. Hence, we surveyed medical students at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock, TX, and received 234 responses. The majority of students were vaccinated against COVID-19 (215/234; 91.8%) and reported pro-vaccine attitudes, such as support for a COVID-19 booster shot (191/234; 81.6%) and an annual COVID-19 vaccine (186/234; 79.5%). Among those who did not receive the COVID-19 vaccine, the most frequent reasons included waiting for more evidence (16/19; 84.2%) and concern about the side effects (15/19; 79.0%). These results indicate that medical students consider vaccination important and suggest that students can provide an important resource for patients and public education.

Analisis pengangguran dan kesempatan kerja yang ada di Indonesia terutama pada masa pandemic covid19 merupakan tujuan yang ingin dicapai dalam penelitian ini. Metode penelitian dalam penelitian yang dilakukan kali ini yaitu dengan menggunakan analisis deskriptif, dimana data berasal dari data sekunder yaitu data yang sudah disediakan oleh BPS (Badan Pusat Statistik). Hasil penelitian yaitu 1) Tingkat pengangguran terbuka berdasarkan jenis kelamin dominasi oleh laki-laki dari pada perempuan dari tahun 2018-2020; 2) Rata-rata pengangguran terbuka yang ada di Indonesia pada terutama pada bulan februari di tahun 2020 tingkat pengangguran sebesar 4,92% meningkat menjadi 6,26% pada tahun 2021; 3) Jumlah pengangguran pada bulan agustus 2019 dan agustus 2020 mengalami peningkatan sebesar 1,84%; 4) Proporsi lapangan pekerjaan informal pada sector non-pertanian berdasarkan pada kelompok umur mengalami peningkatan dari tahun 2019 meningkat pada tahun 2020 sebesar 4,73%; 5) Proporsi lapangan kerja informal sector non-pertanian didominasi oleh jenjang pendidikan < SD dengan rata-rata dari tahun 2017-2019 sebesar 66,22%, sedangkan tingkat pendidikan universitas untuk bekerja di lapangan kerja informal jumlahnya cukup rendah yaitu dari tahun 2017-2019 rata-ratanya sebesar 11,20%; dan 6) proporsi lapangan pekerjaaan informal sector non-pertanian didominasi oleh daerah tempat tinggal pedesaan dengan rata-rata dari tahun 2018-2020 sebesar 54,67%, sedangkan untuk daerah perkotaan yang kerja informal sector non-pertanian lebih kecil yaitu dari tahun 2018-2020 rata-ratanya sebesar 41,15%.

BackgroundDespite concerns about mental health problems among those aged 16–24 in England, which social groups have been most at risk, both over the past decade and during the COVID-19 pandemic, remains unclear.MethodsWe examined trends in psychological distress among young adults 16–24 years old in England using data from the UK Household Longitudinal Study. Using longitudinal data as repeated cross-sectional waves, we examined differences over time in mean General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) scores from wave 1 (2009–2010) to wave 10 (2018–2019) and six COVID-19 waves collected between April and November 2020, by economic activity, cohabitation with parents, parental education, area deprivation, ethnicity, age and sex.ResultsCompared with 2009–2010, increases in GHQ scores in 2018–2019 were higher in women than men (2.1 vs 1.3), those aged 16–18 than aged 22–24 (2.6 vs 0.9), those from white UK group versus other ethnic minorities, and those out of the labour force (3.6) or employed part time (2.2) than those employed full time (0.8). Compared with 2018–2019, psychological distress in 2020 also further increased among young adults residing in the most deprived areas (4.1 vs 1.2 in the least deprived areas). In 2020, losing one’s job or most of one’s work hours was associated with higher psychological distress and attenuated the differences between deprivation quartiles by 17%.ConclusionIn England, inequalities in psychological distress among young adults may have changed and increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Investing in opportunities for young adults, particularly in more deprived areas, may be key to improve population levels of mental health.

Education in life plays a role as a tool that can measure the potential development of students. Parents are responsible for the education of their children. The method in this research was descriptive quantitative method. This method was a method that could be used which was based on data obtained directly and supported by literature studies so that it further strengthened the analysis of research data obtained from the results of the calculation of indicators. This study aimed to analyze parental assistance during distance or online learning, especially for elementary school students. Parental assistance was an activity in order to support and assist children in learning, completing tasks that had been assigned by the teacher so that students felt directed, guided and motivated to take part in learning well. Parental assistance could include facilitating learning, supervising activities and the use of study time, recognizing and overcoming learning difficulties. From the results of the research conducted, the results obtained were the values of Sig. ie 0.200, so it could be seen that the significance> 0.05. Therefore, it could be concluded that receiving H0 or the parental assistance variable came from a normally distributed population. Dealing with parents in assisting learning, especially during the implementation of online learning, there were still many obstacles, ranging from the lack of provision of learning facilities, supervision in learning, use of study time, and handling of children's learning difficulties. Coronavirus diesease 2019 (COVID-19) is a dangerous diesease, which spreads very easily and quickly until at this time it became a pandemic. The Work From Home (WFH) is one way to stop the spread of COVID-19 properly. The impact of WFH on a person can cause depression. This study aimed to determine the determinants of the level of depression during the COVID-19 pandemic in Airlangga University students, Surabaya. The type of observational was a cross-sectional approach. The population in the study was active students at Airlangga University, class 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. That the minimum research sample was 384. This study showed that the prevalence of student depression level is 48.4% with a value p-value = 0.03. There was a significant influence between age, gender, and college year on the level of depression of Universitas Airlangga students.

Background: Norway and Sweden are similar countries in terms of socioeconomics and health care. Norway implemented extensive COVID-19 measures, such as school closures and lockdowns, whereas Sweden did not. Aims: To compare mortality in Norway and Sweden, two similar countries with very different mitigation measures against COVID-19. Methods: Using real-world data from national registries, we compared all-cause and COVID-19-related mortality rates with 95% confidence intervals (CI) per 100,000 person-weeks and mortality rate ratios (MRR) comparing the five preceding years (2015–2019) with the pandemic year (2020) in Norway and Sweden. Results: In Norway, all-cause mortality was stable from 2015 to 2019 (mortality rate 14.6–15.1 per 100,000 person-weeks; mean mortality rate 14.9) and was lower in 2020 than from 2015 to 2019 (mortality rate 14.4; MRR 0.97; 95% CI 0.96–0.98). In Sweden, all-cause mortality was stable from 2015 to 2018 (mortality rate 17.0–17.8; mean mortality rate 17.1) and similar to that in 2020 (mortality rate 17.6), but lower in 2019 (mortality rate 16.2). Compared with the years 2015–2019, all-cause mortality in the pandemic year was 3% higher due to the lower rate in 2019 (MRR 1.03; 95% CI 1.02–1.04). Excess mortality was confined to people aged ⩾70 years in Sweden compared with previous years. The COVID-19-associated mortality rates per 100,000 person-weeks during the first wave of the pandemic were 0.3 in Norway and 2.9 in Sweden. Conclusions: All-cause mortality in 2020 decreased in Norway and increased in Sweden compared with previous years. The observed excess deaths in Sweden during the pandemic may, in part, be explained by mortality displacement due to the low all-cause mortality in the previous year.

En la presente investigación el objetivo es demostrar la validez del método de mínimos cuadrados para el problema de la mortalidad en el Perú desde 1960-2020. Se usó datos anuales de mortalidad ( macro desde 1960-2017 , Ministerio de Salud (MINSA) desde 1999-2011, Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática(INEI) desde 2000-2015 ), datos de mortalidad por enfermedades respiratorias del MINSA en el período 2005-2014; datos diarios de número de personas muestreadas, infectados y fallecidos por Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) de los diarios El Comercio y La República para el período 6 de marzo al 15 de mayo del 2020; datos MINSA de población desde 1999-2011. Se aplicó el método de los mínimos cuadrados y sus proyecciones lineales al 2020, criterios de programación lineal para maximización, y la base de estudios epidemiológicos 2018 en el Perú para referenciar el pico de pandemia. Los resultados de proyecciones lineales indican una maximización de 189415 fallecidos corresponde a julio 2018, una población al 2020 de 33474504 personas, una tasa máxima de mortalidad de 0.60%, y un porcentaje de 14.2% de mortalidad en el 2020 por enfermedades respiratorias alcanzando los 28630 fallecidos. Los resultados del análisis COVID-19 presenta un comportamiento cuadrático, la proyección anual sobre una muestra de 1.8% de la población, indica que el porcentaje de mortalidad es de 12.2% y la tasa de mortalidad es de 0.07%. Se concluye que la mortalidad es oscilatoria y crece linealmente o como máximo tiene un comportamiento cuadrático y la mortalidad anual por COVID-19 en Perú está dentro de la ocurrencia de mortalidad por enfermedades respiratorios al 2020.
