Abstract:
<p align="LEFT">The present paper stems from a contrastive corpus-based study of phraseology in Spanish, Italian and English criminal judgments (Pontrandolfo 2013).</p><p align="LEFT">By exploring the Corpus of Criminal Judgments (COSPE), a large comparable trilingual corpus (Spanish, Italian, English) of approximately 6 million words, the present paper aims at investigating the close relationship among specialised discourse, discourse markers and translation.</p><p align="LEFT">The focus of the study is on special particles which play a pivotal role in judicial texts: “contrargumentative markers” (Portolés 1998, Montolío 2001) or “antioriented argumentative markers” (Escandell 2013), which, following Rudolph (1996) have been labeled “argumentative markers of contrast”.</p><p align="LEFT">The primary objective of the paper is to carry out a quantitative analysis of the distribution of this type of discourse markers in COSPE, as well as a qualitative analysis aimed at characterising the markers uses in COSPE and identifying trends of use in judicial discourse. The secondary objective, which nevertheless guides the whole study, is to carry out a legal translation-oriented analysis. Indeed, studying discourse markers is a necessary precondition for translators, since the semantic and pragmatic relations conveyed by these particles and their distributional differences represent the guidelines for the selection of adequate translation solutions (cf. Visconti 2000, Garofalo 2006).</p><p align="LEFT">From a methodological point of view, the study combines a qualitative approach oriented at the discourse genre (cf. Bhatia 1993, Garofalo 2009) with a more qualiquantitative approach based on corpus linguistics, more specifi cally on corpus-assisted discourse studies (Partington 2004, Partington et al. 2013).</p>

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This paper describes a new automatic layout algorithm named CoSEP for compound graphs with port constraints. The algorithm works by extending the physical model of a previous algorithm named CoSE by defining additional force types and heuristics for constraining edges to connect to certain user-defined locations on end nodes. Similar to its predecessor, CoSEP also accounts for non-uniform node dimensions and arbitrary levels of nesting via compound nodes. Our experiments show that CoSEP significantly improves the quality of the layouts for compound graphs with port constraints with respect to commonly accepted graph drawing criteria while running reasonably fast, suitable for use in interactive applications for small to medium-sized (up to 500 nodes) graphs. A complete JavaScript implementation of CoSEP as a Cytoscape.js extension along with a demo page is freely available at https://github.com/iVis-at-Bilkent/cytoscape.js-cosep .

Abstract:
Excessive N fertilizer application has aggravated soil acidification and loss of N. Although oyster shell powder (OSP) can improve acidic soil, few studies have investigated its ability to retain soil N. Here, the physicochemical properties of latosol after adding OSP and calcined OSP (COSP) and the dynamic leaching patterns of ammonium N (NH4+-N), nitrate N (NO3−-N), and Ca in seepage, were examined through indoor culture and intermittent soil column simulation experiments. Various types of N fertilizer were optimized through the application of 200 mg/kg of N, urea (N 200 mg/kg) was the control treatment (CK), and OSP and COSPs prepared at four calcination temperatures—500, 600, 700, and 800 °C—were added to the latosol for cultivation and leaching experiments. Under various N application conditions, the total leached N from the soil followed ammonium nitrate > ammonium chloride > urea. The OSP and COSPs had a urea adsorption rate of 81.09–91.29%, and the maximum reduction in cumulative soil inorganic N leached was 18.17%. The ability of COSPs to inhibit and control N leaching improved with increasing calcination temperature. Applying OSP and COSPs increased soil pH, soil organic matter, total N, NO3−-N, exchangeable Ca content, and cation exchange capacity. Although all soil enzyme activities related to N transformation decreased, the soil NH4+-N content remained unchanged. The strong adsorption capacities for NH4+-N by OSP and COSPs reduced the inorganic N leaching, mitigating the risk of groundwater contamination.
