Abstract:
Confusion has surrounded the correct spelling of the species name of the labrid fish Cymolutes (=Coris) sandeyeri Hector 1884. In his original description, Hector (1884a) stated the specimen from Tiritiri Island was “collected by Mr. S. Sandeyer”, a misspelling of the surname of F.S. (Andreas Fremming Stewart) Sandager, who was then Assistant Lighthouse Keeper at Tiritiri Matangi Island, Hauraki Gulf, New Zealand, from June 1881 to May 1883 (Phillips 2011), and after whom the species was named.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The floral development of Coris was investigated to clarify its controversial relationship with either Primulaceae (Primulales) or Lythraceae (Myrtales). We demonstrate that Coris is strongly related to the Primulaceae but differs in a few important features, such as the presence of an epicalyx and partial zygomorphy. The saccate calyx and epicalyx with unilateral development encloses an actinomorphic flower. The stamen–petal tube has two sections that arise through three growth processes: a lower common part for stamens and petals and an upper section representing a fused corolla. The central ovule-bearing part of the ovary arises separated from the carpel wall. The formation of ridges with teethlike appendages between the ovules suggests a derivation of the free-central placentation from an axile arrangement. Several characters support the monotypic family Coridaceae near the Primulaceae. Key words: Coridaceae, Primulaceae, Lythraceae, floral development, floral vasculature, epicalyx, free-central placentation, common primordium, zygomorphy.

Full text
Abstract:
Objective: The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the effect of hydrothermal aging on translucency parameter (TP) of different zirconia ceramics in different thicknesses. Material and Methods: This is an in-vitro study in which translucency of six pre-sintered and pre-shaded zirconia materials (In Coris ZI, In Coris TZI, Bruxzir Solid, KATANA HT, KATANA ST, and KATANA UT) was compared to a low-translucency, lithium disilicate glass-ceramic material (IPS e.max CAD LT, Ivoclar Vivadent). The ceramic blocks were cut in the form of plates of dimensions (14x10 mm) and of different thicknesses (0.5, 0.7,1 mm). Thirty specimens of each ceramic material were classified into three groups according to thickness (n=10) such that the total number of specimens is 210. After all zirconia specimens were sintered and lithium disilicate samples were crystallized, TP was determined using dental spectrophotometer VITA Easyshade Compact. Same procedure of translucency measurement was done again after samples were subjected to accelerated autoclave aging. Results: Paired-Samples T- Test showed that aging caused significant reduction in TP in all materials in all thicknesses. Moreover, there was statistical significant difference (P < 0.05) between different ceramic materials where e.max CAD LT showed the highest (TP) and In Coris ZI showed the lowest TP in all thickness groups. Conclusions: TP was both thickness and material dependent. TP was also affected by LTD.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to examine the distribution of presentative constructions in contemporary Italian and to verify whether their occurrence depends on language external factors. Presentative constructions have been studied particularly by Italian linguists during the Eighties, and were defined as being ‘typical’ of so-called Neostandard Italian. The analysis is based on three corpora of contemporary Italian, viz. two oral corpora (LIP and CLIPS) and one written corpus (CORIS/CODIS). Counter to expectations, presentative constructions are far from frequent in contemporary Italian and therefore cannot be considered as being ‘typical’ of Neostandard Italian. They are, however, attested both in written and oral Italian, with a clear preference for the latter context, in which they are evenly distributed in formal and informal registers. We conclude by discussing the differences between the linguistic phenomena traditionally included into the ‘feature pool’ of Neostandard Italian.

Abstract:
A molecular genetic analysis of Coris julis from different sites in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic and C. atlantica from the Cabo Verde Islands was applied to infer phylogenetic relationships between the taxa. More precisely, partial 12S mitochondrial rDNA sequence data were used in maximum parsimony, neighbour-joining, and maximum likelihood analysis to generate phylogenetic trees. The polymorphism observed indicated an important differentiation between the C. atlantica and C. julis specimens and supported the existence of two different species.

Abstract:
Background: We evaluated the performance of a rapid diagnostic antigen test (Coris) as an index test versus the urinary Antigen ELISA (Bartels) as the reference test. Methods: Prospective diagnostic accuracy study (2014–2017) at three university hospitals in Austria. Results: A total of 996 patients were included in the study. Legionellosis was diagnosed in 49/996 (4.9%) using the reference test. The sensitivity and specificity of the Coris test were 75.5% (95% CI 61.1–86.7%) and 100% (95%CI 99.6–100%), respectively. The PPV was 100% and when using the lower 95% CI limit of the estimate for sensitivity, the resulting PPV was 61.1%. The NPV was 98.7% and the accuracy was 98.8%. The index test showed a PPV > 97% during the period of summer and autumn (May through November) and ≥88% during winter (December through February). The NPV was >97% during all of the periods. The median of the monthly incidence in the general population was 0.1 per 100,000 (IQR 0.1; 0.3). Conclusion: The new rapid test gave a high level of diagnostic accuracy in a rapid fashion. The test can be applied at the bedside by non-laboratory staff.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Ecosystem modelling has predicted that fishing for western rock lobster Panulirus cygnus in deep water (50–80m) habitats will result in increased abundance of their macroinvertebrate prey, which would, in turn, support greater production of small-bodied invertivore fish species. To investigate the potential ecosystem effects of rock lobster fishing, a targeted fisheries closure was proposed in deep water habitats along the coast of Western Australia. Data on small-bodied invertivore fish abundance, from baited video, were used to investigate differences across habitats and simulate the likely power of any study to detect change. In general, small-bodied invertivore fish were more abundant at shallower macroalgae-dominated sites, whereas the most abundant single species, the western king wrasse Coris auricularis, was abundant across all habitats and sites. Power simulation of a mixed-model before–after–control–impact (BACI) design found that a 40–50% decrease in either Coris auricularis or small-bodied invertivore fish in general would be very likely to be detected (power ~0.8). Based on the power simulation, we suggest a general sampling design to investigate change before and after the establishment of the fishery closure and make suggestions for further ecological studies to investigate the predicted ecosystem effects of rock lobster fishing.

Abstract:
The quantity and quality of propagules, i.e., reproductive output, play a key role in the dynamics of exploited populations, with particular implications for sex-changing fish. Here, we studied for the first time the effects of maternal traits on the reproductive output of the Mediterranean rainbow wrasse Coris julis, a sequential hermaphroditic fish widely distributed in temperate marine coastal regions. The quantity of the reproductive output (batch fecundity) was significantly related to maternal size, which is of special interest in a species submitted to size-selective harvesting (recreational angling). However, egg quality (egg size) was not significantly related to any maternal factor and the spawning fraction was related to a seasonal pattern only. These results should contribute to improving estimations of the annual reproductive output and the stock assessment of this species and some implications for management are discussed.

Abstract:
BackgroundPsychological distress includes a broader range of experiences, varying from less severe symptoms of depression and anxiety to severe psychiatric disease. Global estimates for depression and anxiety in 2017 were 3.4% and 3.8%, respectively. While for people living with HIV, global estimates were 16% and 33%, respectively.ObjectiveWe aimed to determine the prevalence of psychological distress by gender and associated characteristics in patients living with HIV.MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted within the Spanish HIV Research Network CoRIS. Participants were interviewed by telephone between 2010 and 2014 about their psychological distress, sociodemographics, drug consumption, self-perceived health and combined antiretroviral therapy (cART) adherence. Laboratory tests and medical history details were collected from CoRIS. Logistic regression was used to identify characteristics associated with psychological distress.FindingsWe interviewed 99 women and 464 men, both living with HIV. A greater proportion of women (51, 51.5%) reported psychological distress than men (179, 38.6%; p<0.01). Non-adherence to cART (OR 4.6 and 2.3, 95% CI 1.4‒15.1 and 1.3‒4.2) and non-use of cART (8.4 and 1.8, 2.2‒32.4 and 1.1‒2.8) were related to psychological distress in women and men, respectively. Spending little time in leisure-based physical activity was related to psychological distress in women (3.1, 1.1‒9.0). Living alone (2.0, 1.3‒3.0) and being unemployed (2.3, 1.4‒3.6) were related to psychological distress in men. Conclusions and clinical implicationsAs people living with HIV have a high prevalence of psychological distress, their regular screening appointments should include psychological assessment. A gendered approach is needed to detect and manage psychological distress.

Abstract:
Objectives With the purpose of reducing the well-known negative impact of late presentation (LP) on people living with HIV (PLWH), guidelines on early HIV diagnosis were published in 2014 in Spain, but since then no data on LP prevalence have been published. To estimate prevalence and risk factors of LP and to evaluate their impact on the development of clinical outcomes in the Cohort of the Spanish HIV/AIDS Research Network (CoRIS) during 2004–2018. Methods CoRIS is an open prospective multicenter cohort of PLWH, adults, naive to ART at entry. LP was defined as HIV diagnosis with CD4 count ≤350 cells/μL or an AIDS defining event (ADE). Multivariable Poisson regression models were used to estimate both prevalence ratios (PR) for the association of potential risk factors with LP and Incidence rate ratios (IRRs) for its impact on the development of the composite endpoint (first ADE, first serious non-AIDS event [SNAE] or overall mortality). Results 14,876 individuals were included. Overall, LP prevalence in 2004–2018 was 44.6%. Risk factors for LP included older age, having been infected through injection drug use or heterosexual intercourse, low educational level and originating from non-European countries. LP was associated with an increased risk of the composite endpoint (IRR: 1.34; 95%CI 1.20, 1.50), ADE (1.39; 1.18, 1.64), SNAE (1.22; 1.01, 1.47) and mortality (1.71; 1.41, 2.08). Conclusions LP remains a health problem in Spain, mainly among certain populations, and is associated with greater morbidity and mortality. Public policies should be implemented to expand screening and early diagnosis of HIV infection, for a focus on those at greatest risk of LP.

Abstract:
Diagnosis of a first-time visceral leishmaniasis (VL) infection in Ethiopia is established by use of a rapid diagnostic test (RDT) detecting antibodies against rK39, direct agglutination test (DAT) and microscopy according to the national algorithm. The performance of individual tests and algorithm is variable and depends on several factors, one being HIV status. Limited data are available on the performance of tests in VL-HIV coinfected patients. Assessment of the performance of DAT (ITM-A), rK39 ELISA (Serion) and six RDT (Onsite Leishmania Ab CTK, Antigen ICT Xinjier, IT Leish Biorad, Kalazar Detect Inbios, rK39 IgG1 Coris, rk28 IgG1 Coris) for the diagnosis of VL was done on a panel of 91 stored serum and plasma samples of ‘first-episode’ suspected VL patients, with HIV coinfection (n = 51) and without (n = 40). A combined reference standard was used: either positive microscopy on tissue aspirates, or in case of negative microscopy, positive PCR results on the aspirate slide. Additionally, endemic healthy controls (n = 20), non-endemic controls (n = 10) and patients with confirmed malaria infection (n = 10) were tested for specificity evaluation. Sensitivities ranged from 69.2% for DAT (applied cut-off ≥ 1/3200) to 92.2% for the Onsite RDT, whereas specificities ranged from 20.0% for Kalazar Antigen ICT to 100% for IT Leish and rK39 IgG1. Sensitivities from all assays decreased upon stratification according to HIV status but was only significantly different for rK39 Serion ELISA (p-value 0.0084) and the Onsite RDT (p-value 0.0159). In conclusion, performance of commercially available assays for VL on samples from Northern-Ethiopian patients varied widely with a substantial decrease in sensitivity in the VL-HIV coinfected group. Clear guidelines on minimal performance criteria of individual tests and algorithms are needed, as well as which reference standard should be used to determine the performance.

Abstract:
Human activities facilitate coastal habitat transformation and homogenization. The spread of marine invasive species is one example. This in turn may influence fish recruitment and the subsequent replenishment of adult assemblages. We tested habitat complexity effect on fish (Teleostei) recruitment by experimentally manipulating meadows of the habitat-forming invasive macroalga Caulerpa taxifolia (Chlorophyta). Among the fourteen fish species recorded during the experiment, only two labrids (Coris julis and Symphodus ocellatus) settled in abundance among these meadows. Patterns in the abundance of these juveniles suggested that reduced tri-dimensional meadow complexity may reduce habitat quality and result in altered habitat choices and / or differential mortality of juveniles, therefore reducing fish recruitment and likely the abundance of adults.

Abstract:
The community structure of shallow rocky reef fish fauna of the Azores Archipelago is described from underwater visual censuses carried out at eight areas (Terceira and Corvo Islands). A total of 52 fish species from 26 different families was observed, and the ten most abundant fish corresponded to 82.7% of all fish. Trophic categories are given for observed species with comments on distribution and densities along sampled depth strata. Mean densities along sampled strata were tested for significant differences. Sparidae, Labridae and Carangidae were the most speciose families being Diplodus sargus, Pagellus acarne, Coris julis, Thalassoma pavo and Tripterygion delaisi the most abundant species that consequently also accounted for the highest densities.
