Abstract:
The long-billed corella has adapted to the loss of its native foods by incorporating into its diet plants which were introduced to Australia by the European colonists. Analyses of the contents of crops and proventriculi from 314 long-billed corellas which were collected during a period of almost 7 years in western Victoria indicated that, on a volume basis, more than 90% of the diet is now composed of cereal grains, sunflower and thistle seeds, and the corms of an introduced weed (onion grass, Romulea spp.).

Abstract:

Abstract:
Corella inflata from the northwest Pacific coast of North America and Corella eumyota from southern New Zealand are both ovoviviparous solitary ascidians with very different methods of brood retention. Corella inflata eggs are covered with large follicle cells that are responsible for flotation. The floating eggs are trapped in the upwardly situated atrial chamber, where development ensues. Corella eumyota eggs have small follicle cells and do not float; the follicle cells produce a viscous glue that causes the eggs and embryos to stick to each other and to the right atrium. The follicle cells are not sticky when removed from the ovary but become so in about 15 min. In C. inflata, development to hatching requires 24–26 h at 13 °C and metamorphosis begins 17 h later. Corella eumyota tadpoles hatch at about 25 h at 15 °C and begin metamorphosis 11 h later. Both species retain the tadpoles well beyond hatching and release tadpoles fully competent to metamorphose. In C. inflata the tadpoles swim down and out of the atrium; C. eumyota tadpoles somehow break free of the glue-encrusted vitelline coat and swim out the atrial siphon. Tadpoles of both species swim vigorously when released and then rapidly metamorphose. Most tadpoles metamorphose in 15–20 min. Since both species spawn around dawn, tadpoles are released during the night.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The Tanimbar Corella (Cacatua goffiniana) is a protected bird species endemic to the Tanimbar Islands (Yamdena and its satellite islands) in the Maluku province of Indonesia. The major threats identified to this species are hunting, illegal trade, and habitat loss. Therefore, this study aims to classify the land cover, distribution, and habitat types occupied by C. goffiniana on the Tanimbar Islands. Classification of land cover was analyzed using a supervised classification method of the Erdas Imagine 2014 software. Direct field observations were conducted to identify the distribution of Tanimbar Corella and its habitat use. The land cover was classified into six classes: forest (54.26 %), open area (20.76%), plantation (14.81%), mangrove (6.89%), settlement (1.85%), and wetland (1.43%). C. goffiniana is distributed on five islands, Yamdena, Selaru, Larat, Sera, and Molu. Furthermore, this species was observed in forest, plantation, and open land habitats. The results identified seventeen nest trees of six species: Canarium Indicum, Pometia pinnata, Instia bijuga, Sterculita foetida, Maranther corymbosa, and Alstonia scholaris, with a range diameter of 40.00-136.71 cm and nest cavity heights of 9.00-34.22 m (n = 17). This research brings new data in three areas: 1) a reassessment of the distribution of C. goffiniana on the Tanimbar Islands; 2) a detailed classification of the land cover concerning habitat types of the Tanimbar Islands; 3) an identification of the tree species utilized by nesting Tanimbar Corellas. Information on preferred habitats and nesting trees is crucial for selecting release sites of confiscated birds to ensure post-release survival.

Abstract:
Vita Christi, Corella, Miquel Peres, llengua, estil, espiritualitat.Abstract: Isabel de Villena’s Vita Christi was conceived in the 60s of the XVth century from the treaties that the abbess of the Valencian Monastery of the Trinity used to indoctrinate her nuns and to raise them in the contemplation of Jesus through the eyes of Mary and the women that surrounded him. The comparison of the language and style of the Tractat de la Passió and those of the editions of 1497 and 1513 clearly show that they were adapted to religious and linguistic sensitivity of the moment. The language of the abbess, cultured and popular at the same time, was not influenced by Corella. However, Aldonça de Montsoriu, curator of the first edition, tried to 'sell' the «elegant and sweet style» of the Vita Christi probably asking Miquel Peres to write the dedication, addressed to Isabella, Queen of Castile. Keywords: Isabel de Villena. Abstract:
The ascidian Corella inflata (Chordata, Ascidiacea) is common in many areas of Puget Sound, Washington, USA. However, it occurs only in habitats where it is protected from direct sunlight. Previous experiments with artificial lights showed that UV irradiation kills all life stages of this animal. The effects of natural sunlight exposure (measuring survival of adults, juveniles, larvae, and embryos) were compared. We partitioned the light spectrum to separate the effects of UVB, UVA, and visible light (PAR). Natural sunlight severely damaged C. inflata. Adults and juveniles died after 2-5 d. Exposed embryos failed to develop normally and larvae did not settle. As expected, UVB had significant effects, but pronounced effects were also seen when the animals were exposed to longer wavelengths alone (UVA and PAR). Thus, the distribution of C. inflata may be determined largely by exposure to light. Understanding the basic ecology of this species requires consideration of its vulnerability to sunlight damage and the effects of UVB, UVA, and PAR.

Abstract:
The western long-billed corella, Cacatua pastinator, and the Major Mitchell cockatoo, C. leadbeateri, were studied in the central wheatbelt of Western Australia from 1977 to 1983. Nestling and breeding adult birds were individually marked with patagial tags and their survival was calculated from resighting of tagged birds. Mean annual survival of adult male and female western long-billed corellas and Major Mitchell cockatoos were 94.2%, 93.2%, 92.9% and 81.3%, respectively. Survival of immature birds was less than that of adults and only 9% of male and 23% of female western long-billed corellas survived to age of first breeding at three and five years, respectively; 20% of male and 31% of female Major Mitchell cockatoos survived to age of first breeding at two and three years, respectively. The use of patagial tags had no significant effect on the survival of adult birds; the situation with immature birds is less certain, but the data suggest that any effect was small. Dispersal had only a slight negative effect on 'survival' of immature Major Mitchell cockatoos. The lower survival of immature birds was attributed to increased predation while in the locally nomadic immature flocks. Data on survival and productivity suggest that the populations should be stable or slowly increasing and this is in agreement with the data on the populations.

Abstract:
AbstractTwo parrot species, Tanimbar corella Cacatua goffini and blue-streaked lory Eos reticulata, endemic to the Tanimbar Islands, Indonesia, were regularly trapped and sold into the international wild bird trade prior to 1992. Following concerns about numbers entering the trade, but with little knowledge of the remaining wild population or socio-economic role of bird trapping on the islands, international trade in both species was suspended at the 1992 CITES meeting. This paper reports on a rapid survey conducted on the islands in 1993 as a follow-up to the decision on trade. The survey attempted to determine the status of the wild populations, the distribution and activity of the human population, the interaction between Tanimbar corella and agriculture, and the structure of the local commodity-chain for wild-caught parrots. We found that: (a) both parrot species were widely distributed and present at relatively high densities across the largest island in the group, Yamdena; (b) catching of parrots is geographically limited; (c) in the case of Tanimbar corella, at least, the catching is of birds raiding crops and probably involves mainly immature and non-reproductive birds; (d) the international and domestic ban on catching was generally adhered to locally but the reasons for the ban were not widely understood, contributing to a general mistrust of conservationists that still remains. Although not advocating a lifting of the ban on trapping, we do conclude that in this case invoking the precautionary principle without proper consideration of local context may have been counterproductive to conservation goals.

Otolelus Mroczkowski, 1987, established as replacement name for Olotelus Mulsant & Rey, 1866a (not Olotelus Solier, 1851), lacks a type species and is an unavailable name; its authorship is attributed to Klinger (2000), who fixed Xylophilus pruinosus Kiesenwetter, 1861 as type species. Euglenes pygmaeus (DeGeer, 1775) is an incorrect subsequent spelling of pygmeus but is in prevailing usage, thus it is deemed to be a correct original spelling. Notoxus ruficollis Rossi, 1794, currently Otolelus ruficollis (Aderidae), and Notoxus ruficollis Champion, 1890 (Anthicidae) are homonyms but the senior homonym was placed in a separate genus before the junior name was described, so no immediate nomenclatorial action is required. Xylophile Latreille, 1825 is confirmed to be a vernacular unavailable name, whereas Xylophilus Latreille, 1829 (type species Notoxus populneus Creutzer, 1796) is a synonym of Aderus Stephens, 1829 n. syn. Xylophilus Curtis, 1830 (type species Anthicus oculatus Paykull, 1798), is removed from synonymy with Aderus Stephens, 1829 and is established to be an objective synonym of Euglenes Westwood, 1830 n. syn. Xylophilus bimaculatus is confirmed to be only a subsequent incorrect spelling (unavailable name) of X. bisbimaculatus Hampe, 1850. Euglenus, Aglenes, Helophilus, Pseudoloterus, Tokyophilus, Tokiophylus, Xilophilus and Xylophylus are established to be subsequent incorrect spellings (unavailable names) of Euglenes Westwood, 1830, Hylophilus Berthold, 1827, Pseudolotelus Pic, 1901, Tokiophilus Pic, 1921 and Xylophilus Latreille, 1829, respectively. Xylophila Lamarck, 1817 is excluded from the Aderidae; a formal assignment of this genus to a family based on a type species selection has not been done.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The definition of “tragedy” in the cultural context of the early Renaissance is of paramount significance in the history of Spanish literature. One of the most intriguing cases in point pertains to the Tragèdia de Caldesa, a compact composition by Joan Roís de Corella (ca. 1433-1497), a noted humanist and theologian from Valencia. Here I propose a fresh reading of Corella’s masterpiece by focussing on the inner world of the lover - i.e., the author’s persona - who, from a narcissistic perspective, confronts the conflictive interplay of the male and female roles. Recent scholarship reveals as a correlative of the narcissism in question a text of solitude and alienation, the leading exponents of which may be found throughout the fifteenth century in the great masters of love-centered literature in both Castilian and Catalan. Among these oustanding authors, Ausiàs March, the nonpareil Valencian poet, transforms the indices of solitude and alienation into his own poetics of subjectivity. In the wake of March’s innovatory legacy, a group of gifted authors, who flourished in Barcelona or Valencia in the second half of the fifteenth century, evolved a distinctive literary mode endowed with theatrical potential. Arguably, it is this kind of theatricality that comes into play in the landmark creation of Corella’s all-important Tragèdia.

Abstract:
Abstract The Maldit is Joan Roís de Corella’s only poem that appears in all of the manuscript witnesses of his poetry, which is a good indication of its literary success. This article reviews the variations of the poem throughout these manuscripts in order to focus on the process of rewriting, which reaches its maximum development in the version transmitted in the cancionero known as the Jardinet d’orats. The variants of all of the witnesses are discussed from ecdotic perspectives and the focus is on the double version of the tornada. The article demonstrates that the maldit is Joan Roís de Corella’s poem in which there is the greatest development and the greatest adherence to troubadouresque techniques. The person responsible for the version in the Jardinet d’orats does not notice these formal characteristics, which disappear in the process of rewriting, and this is the principal argument for considering it apocryphal. The literary character of the poem, like the Valencian environment in which it was produced, respond to a certain collectivity, which a different poet took advantage to generate the rewriting of Joan Roís de Corella’s maldit.

Abstract:
In the mid-1990s commercial Tasmanian blue gum (Eucalyptus globulus) plantations were established in south-west Western Australia. We examined the extent of loss of potential nesting trees for an endangered obligate hollow-nesting cockatoo, Muir’s corella (Cacatua pastinator pastinator), resulting from establishment of these plantations during 1995–2004. Clearing of native vegetation was extensive in both Tonebridge (51%) and Frankland (76%) study sites. The proportion of land used for timber plantation increased significantly from 2.4% to 12.1% (Tonebridge) and 0.5% to 9% (Frankland) in the period 1995–2004. Plantations were predominantly established on already cleared farmland, but during the rapid development of plantations, large numbers of remnant paddock trees (mean = 56%) in cleared farmland were removed. Despite the loss of more than 50% of potential nesting habitat over an area of 376km2 within its current distribution, Muir’s corella continued to increase in numbers. However, there are concerns about delayed impacts of the clearing of potential nest trees we have observed, and consequences of further tree loss during future plantation harvesting. Evidence-based demonstration of biodiversity protection is increasingly needed to fulfil forest and plantation stewardship requirements, so greater care needs to be directed towards the management of extant remnant vegetation in paddocks.

Abstract:
The distribution of sensory cells and nerves was studied in the siphons of Corella inflata Huntsman, 1912 and Corella willmeriana Herdman, 1898 by immunohistology and electron microscopy. Each siphon has about 8000 primary sensory neurons. A coronal organ of the compound type is present on the oral tentacles. Convergence in the afferent pathway is estimated at >10:1. A new category of cells associated with the velar sphincter muscle is described at the tentacle bases. Responses to stimulation were recorded using flow meters. Both siphons are sensitive to touch and near-field vibrations. Removal of the oral tentacles did not diminish vibration sensitivity. Gentle stimulation of the oral siphon evokes crossed responses in which the atrial siphon closes and the velar sphincter contracts. Stronger stimulation produces squirts with closure of both siphons and branchial ciliary arrest. Experiments with polystyrene beads show that the oral tentacles are sensitive to contact with inflowing particles. Beads of 500–600 μm diameter evoked rejection responses 88% of the time, 355–425 μm beads 61%, and beads <125 μm less than 8%. These responses, attributed to the coronal organ, were lost after amputation of the tentacles. Electrophysiology confirmed that crossed responses and squirting are centrally mediated reflexes, but local conduction pathways also exist and survive deganglionation.

Abstract:
The breeding ecology of a small population of the western long-billed corella, Cacatua p. pastinator, was investigated for 6 years in the central wheatbelt of Western Australia. Pair-bonds tended to be long-lasting; however, the divorce rate for birds breeding for the first time was 25% with an overall rate of 15%. Females formed stable pair-bonds by age 2, and bred for the first time between 3 and 5 years old; males started breeding when 5 years old. Clutches (range from one to four, mode three) were started in early August; 78% are started in the last 3 weeks of the month. Mean clutch size, brood size and number fledged were 2.7 , 1.9 and 1.6 respectively; there were no significant differences in these parameters among the six years of the study. Hatching was asynchronous and was followed by the death of the young nestlings when they were significantly smaller (77%) than their older siblings. Nestlings fledged when they were about 60 days old; neither their mass or degree of wing growth influenced fledging age. Mean mass of fledglings from broods of three was significantly greater than that of broods of two or one. Productivity was assessed by the numbers of young fledging, surviving the post-fledging period, and reaching independence. Neither mass nor condition at fledging influenced any of these measures; productivity in all three increased with clutch size. Rainfall and temperature had no influence on the numbers fledged, but the number reaching independence was significantly and positively correlated with the mean maximum summer temperature. The results are discussed in relation to the results from studies of other species of cockatoos living in the wheatbelt of Western Australia.

Abstract:
This contribution is a further partial anticipation of the critical edition of the mythological faules by Joan Roís de Corella(15th century) for Editorial Barcino, following a previous one also appeared in Magnificat CLM (3, 2016). It focuses onone of Corella's most mature and significant faules, as well as one of the most prestigious testimonies both of the presence of the myth of Hero and Leander in the Iberian 15th century, and of the peninsular reception of the Heroides. The paper has two parts. The first part, Introduction, summarizes the current situation of the studies related to the Istòria. Next, an analysis of the literary memory that supports the faula’s discursive construction is provided, aiming to demonstrate how it actualizes a game of mirroring, projections, refractions, intertextual references, and symbolic-allusive evocations that make res and characters the revival of a plurality of classical and medieval models. Such a revival becomes loaded of a new pathetic energy. Our analysis is based on certain thematic words and specific topical-rhetorical matrixes, reused either a lo profano or a lo divino, always within the idea of “dying together" and of love beyond death. It focuses on the communication strategies through which this ficció sentimental’s text (a point of convergence for thematic, metaphorical and figural weaving, anchored to the Tristanian, lyrical-amorous, ausiasmarquiana, cancioneril and Passionist imagery of planctus virginis) transforms memory and reuses it into an invention. The second part of the paper is the critical edition of the text. Anticipated by the Criteria of Edition, it contains the Text, with footnotes concerning the constitutio textus, and the Critical Apparatus.

Abstract:
The study assessed the present vegetation composition of the Proposed Site for the Tarsier Tourism Center (PTTC) at Villa Aurora, Bilar, Bohol and performed a comparative analysis with the existing Tarsier Sanctuary (TS) at Canapnapan, Corella, Bohol. The basis for comparison was the computed importance values, species richness, species dominance, and percent distribution of plants according to self-defined DBH classes. Results showed that both sites had very high species richness and evenness values. Common overstorey and understorey plant species found in both areas were katagpo (Psychotria sp.), sagimsim (Syzygium brevistylum [C. B. Rob]Merr.) and bagauak (Clerodendrum minahassae Teijsm. & Binn.). Apart from sagimsim (Syzygium brevistylum [C.B.Rob.] Merr.), selaginella (Selaginella cuppresina Lin.), and lunas (Lunasia amara Blanco) were also common in the ground vegetation of both areas. Percent distribution of trees according to self-defined DBH classes revealed that PTTC had 87.55% of the total recorded plants with DBH measurements of <10 cm. Our data was found lower by almost 10% from TS. Considerable percentages of trees were also shared in other DBH classes for PTTC. DBH class range of 10-20 cm had 6.88%, while 5.58% was computed for DBH class of >20 cm. Percent distribution of trees on these DBH ranges (especially on DBH class >20 cm) indicated the presence of medium and large trees. The largest DBH measured in the PTTC was 70 cm while in TS was only 22 cm. The proposed 10-ha site in Villa Aurora, Bilar, is suited to be utilized as Tarsier Tourism Center. In case the proposed project is to be pursued, enclosure similar to what has been constructed in Canapnapan, Corella, Bohol, Philippines should also be established to prevent stray animals from predating the captive tarsiers. Keywords: floristic inventory, Philippine tarsier, Bohol, primate conservation, tourism.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to show the import of vision and visual discourses in the articulation of desire in Joan Roís de Corella’s fifteenth-century Història de Leànder i Hero. The topoi of the “arrows of love” and the power of the gaze to make others fall in love represent both the catalyst that sets in motion the passionate love of Hero and Leànder and the means through which the lovers express their desire and longings. After Hero and Leànder wound each other with the arrows of love, they cannot stop their life-long quest to apprehend visually each other either across the crowd of guests in the festivity or across the Hellespont. Hero’s tower, which becomes a metonym for Hero, is always within Leànder’s choric visual field and cannot stop staring until he dies. Like Leànder, when her lover is not in Sestos with her, Hero cannot stop gazing across the sea in search Leànder. Hence after Leànder drowns and the currents carry his corpse to the shore of Sestos, Hero opens his eyes and kisses them with her own eyes. The eyes-to-eyes kiss underscores and attests to the preeminence of vision and visual theories in forming and conveying desire through sight. Corella, then, uses optical theories, extant during his own time, to showcase the power of the gaze in the articulation and expression of human behavior and desire.

Abstract:
Certain physical factors, substrate type and ice action appear to be important determinants for ascidian distribution. Three different substrate types were sampled at depths between 0–30 m by SCUBA diving: soft bottoms, hard bottoms and moraine deposits. The species found were Aplidium radiatum, Synoicum adareanum, Distaplia cylindrica, Sycozoa gaimardi, Sycozoa sigillinoides, Tylobranchion speciosum, Corella eumyota, Ascidia challengeri, Cnemidocarpa verrucosa, Styela wandeli, Dicarpa insinuosa, Pyura bouvetensis, Pyura discoveryi, Pyura obesa, Pyura setosa, Molgula enodis and Molgula pedunculata. Highest diversity and patchy distribution was found in less stringent environments, where epibiosis is a commmon phenomenon on stolidobranch ascidians. Differences in stalk development were found in the most abundant species Molgula pedunculata and Cnemidocarpa verrucosa. Ice action may be the main factor that determines the absence of ascidians above 15 m in all the stations sampled.
