Full textThis thesis deals with some prosodic phenomena related to the structural aspects of interactive discourse. The fundamental assumption for the present study is the existence of underlying discourse structure that determines surface prosodic variation. In order to investigate objectively the relation between discourse and prosody, the hierarchical interactive discourse structure was determined by an auditory test and by an independent textual analysis. . . . The acoustic analysis was carried out to discover global and local prosodic features involved in the discourse boundaries marking and the internal coherence marking of this hierarchically defined interactive discourse structure. . . . Finally, the analysis is concerned to the Fo peck variation of successive discourse units. The result shows that this variation is correlated with discourse function of individual discourse units
Lee, Hee-Young. "L'auxiliation aspectuelle en coréen et en français." Paris 4, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003PA040056.
Full textThe aim of this dissertation is to elaborate certain notions concerning two major linguistic phenomena, namely auxiliation and aspect, and to apply them to the Korean and French predicate systems. The following question are addressed : how can a lexical verb be employed as a grammatical marker; is auxiliation motived by semantics of the verb; and what are the characteristics of the aspectual auxiliation in the two languages? In the first section, we present general theoretical issues on auxiliation and aspect. The aspectual categorizations of Korean and French are discussed using the analysis grid proposed by Dik (1989, 1997). Korean aspectual auxiliaries need the complex verbal construction [Vp-Aux], whereas French aspectual auxiliaries are formed periphrastically with an infinitive (with or without a preposition). In the second section, Korean aspectual auxiliaries are examined and compared to the French equivalents for various aspectual values (inchoative, progressive, continuative, resultative, terminative, iterative, and attemptive). The "superposition of markers" (cf. Lemaréchal 1989, 1997) seems to be able to explain the polyfunctionality of such auxiliaries. Each arguments, the semantic properties of the auxiliary, the connector (preposition or conjonctive suffix), the adverbs, etc The close interaction between different TAM categories (Tense-Aspect-Modality) is illustrated by the function of the relevant auxiliaries. From our observation, the majority of the Korean and French verbs show semantic continuity in their use as auxiliaries ( cf. The phenomenon of the persistence, Hopper 1991 ). It can be said that , in the course of grammaticalization, the verb retains a relatively abstracted version of its primary meaning in its auxiliary uses

Full textIn the following body of research, we attempt to contribute to a new framework of temporal representation in languges. The study is part of The Cognitive and Applicative Grammar (GA&C)” research program, and can be situated in a multilingual global structure for Automatic Natural Language Processing. The objective of “The Cognitive and Applicative Grammar” is to establish a general multilingual system with formal calculus for automatic processing, as well as to develop a theory of invariant language constituted by the various types of elementary operations. The presence of two “past” tenses in Korean marked by two morphemes, -eoss- et -teo-, raises questions with respect to a new descriptive tool and to linguistic realisations of general concepts in relation to temporality, modality and aspects in a particular language. The semantic meaning of -eoss- is analysed by concepts using the general topology theory of intervals of instants. The concept of “la prise en charge” is related to -teo-, which is formalized inside an enunciative modal for natural languages. The proposed models here represent the underlying cognitive and semantic meanings of the utterances demonstrating occurrences of -eoss- and -teo-. Finally, this work will give new perspective on the conceptual approach of didactical description in grammatical systems through language comparisons (above all Korean and French). Furthermore, these formal concepts can be used in Natural Language Processing

Full textThis dissertation is devoted to the study of two Korean children aged from 2 years and 6 months old to 3 years and 10 months old, who are confronted with the parallel acquisition of the Korean language and French second language after the installation of their families in France. The corpus analysis obtained throughout this study permits us to clarify the specific role of the prosodic realisation during this period between 3 ;1 and 3 ;2 years old. A period when two distincts types of two elements utterances (each from his own prosodic system, either Korean or French) are established. In fact, this capacity of prosodic differenciation is based on the knowledge of pragmatic conditions of language interaction. It is a matter of taking the interlocutors and the situation into account. This language choice according to interlocutors must also allow children to differenciate two lexicons according to their needs. .

Full textReading & writing in foreign languages is often made difficult mostly because of the change of graphic and linguistic codes. The aim of this research is to qualitatively analyze difficulties and errors made by English L2 & French L3 learners in South Korea, in reading & writing. By focusing mainly on the low-level operations of reading & writing and the influence of languages that has been previously known/acquired in learning a new language, I first try to explore the characteristics of the development of literacy in English L2 of 4th grade Korean elementary schoolchildren who are at the very beginning of learning to read and write in the Latin alphabet: How will Korean schoolchildren approach reading & writing in a writing system which is clearly different from theirs ? The most of French L3 learners in South Korea are adults, especially university students. They have learned English at least for 10 years. This means that when they start learning French L3, they have - at least - two language systems (Korean L1 & English L2) that can intervene. In this perspective, I am particularly interested in knowing the role of English L2 in learning French L3: Is it a facilitator or an obstacle? By means of the qualitative analysis of the results obtained and the learning testimonies of Korean learners, some didactic proposals will be presented

Full textOur research concerns the study of the reading/comprehension of authentic French texts by Korean students in the perspective of the notion of textual socialization, essential for the development of reading skills. Our objective is to examine the readers'(re)construction of textual meaning ; more specifically, the construction of the relationship between scriptor and reader in a semio-linguistic context. The empirical studies are based on the reading of literary and journalistic texts after wich written and oral data in the form of questionnaires and semi-guided interviews were collated from two groups of Korean students of French (in an endolinguistic or exolinguistic context) and a group of native French speakers : in French and Korean for the Koreans groups, and in French only for the French group. The students completed two activities : localization and identification of enunciative marks in the texts and explanation of their comprehension of each text. The questionnaires and recorded interviews allowed us to appreciate the universality of textual genres, a quality which enabled the Korean students to create a relationship with the scriptors of the French texts

Full textThis study is an essay on the prosodic hierarchical structure of Korean speech description. The main idea is illustrated by the complex relation between grammatical morphemes, word order, and prosody of the language. The aim is to describe the prosodic hierarchy of the speech, that which represents a structural organization of the syntagmatic units of the sentence. The present argument is thus to present the Korean prosodic unit from two consecutive approaches: grammatical morphemes are prominent in Korean; and following verification, the prosodic structures become evident in relation to them. It is shown that the grammatical morphemes < -ka >/<-i>,<-(l)ul > and < -nun > are prosodically prominent in read and spontaneous speech. These particular units are where the prosodic contours become evident, thus making it possible to organize the hierarchical structure based on their features. The two experimental studies show the role of prosody. The first shows the relation between prosody, length, and surface syntactic structure. The second experience verifies the redundancy between grammatical morphemes and prosody

Full textThis study is devoted to the research on nominal determination in french, in the enunciative psychomecanic. Throughj the underlining of the ambiguity and variety of the notion of determination, we distinguished determiners in terms of extensity and extension according to the way they modify the noun : formal determiners and material determiners. Korean is a language without articles in which the system of demonstratives is compound (i, geu, jeo) : on the other hand french is binary. Evergthing depends on the distinction made by the speaker. The respective effects of the two articles (un, le) are the expression of the genberic and of the particular, according tonthe speaker's aim in a given situation. In korean, in certain conditions, two particles play the part of thearticle, which also determines the context

Full textThis thesis describes the functions and the values of IFULI 'us' in Korean using a corpus of more than 30,000 tokens. It isolates two productive syntactic patterns: in predicates, the values of WULI are specified by indices which give information on the number of actants in the process described, while in noun phrases, they rely on the semantics of the noun to wich WULI is connected by three syntactic forms: 1) by means of the genitive particle (WULluy N) in which a personalised relationship with the speaker IS expressed; 2) orthographically by a space (1WULI N) which can be interpreted as the inclusion of the speaker in a micro-group specified by the noun ; 3) by a fusion (WULIN) which defines the national links of the speaker. This study combines the Issues of number and of identity with respect to the collective person and shows that the frequent use of WULI indicates an discours strategy of self-reference: the speaker identifying himself through an inclusion in a group
