Abstract:
The use of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) to inspect underwater industrial infrastructure requires the precise, coordinated movement of the AUV relative to subsea objects. One significant underwater infrastructure system is the subsea production system (SPS), which includes wells for oil and gas production, located on the seabed. The present paper suggests a method for the accurate navigation of AUVs in a distributed SPS to coordinate space using video information. This method is based on the object recognition and computation of the AUV coordinate references to SPS objects. Stable high accuracy during the continuous movement of the AUV in SPS space is realized through the regular updating of the coordinate references to SPS objects. Stereo images, a predefined geometric SPS model, and measurements of the absolute coordinates of a limited number of feature points of objects are used as initial data. The matrix of AUV coordinate references to the SPS object coordinate system is computed using 3D object points matched with the model. The effectiveness of the proposed method is estimated based on the results of computational experiments with virtual scenes generated in the simulator for AUV, and with real data obtained by the Karmin2 stereo camera (Nerian Vision, Stuttgart, Germany) in laboratory conditions.

As a floating system connecting hydraulic support and scraper conveyor, the path planning of pushing mechanism is of great significance for their coordinated movement. In this paper, a method for path planning of hydraulic support pushing mechanism based on extreme learning machine (ELM) and Descartes path planning is proposed. According to the motion characteristics of moving mechanism, it is transformed into industrial robot model, based on the characteristics of the coordinates of the key points on the ear seat of the scraper conveyor when advancing, a prediction method of the key points coordinates based on ELM is proposed, so the target location of the end-effector is obtained. The path of the joint is determined by polynomial path partition and Descartes path planning method. The path is modified by Gaussian filtering method, and the peak value of path obtained by planning is filtered out, and the path correction is realized. Finally, the virtual simulation test is carried out in Unity3D. The planned coordinate curve has Poisson-like distribution and approximately around the target coordinate curve, and local error and correction error are within 2 cm and 0.1 cm, respectively. The coordinate curve obtained by combining planning and correction has a better effect.

Abstract:
The feasibility of battery energy storage system (BESS) in ameliorating power system transient stability has been proved. However, the required BESS capacity is large, which leads to high price. Meanwhile, the improving effect is significantly affected by fault location and BESS location. To address the problem, a distributed configuration of BESS, with a coordinated control method, is proposed in this paper. Firstly, an independent double-closed loop decoupling controller is designed for each BESS, so that the BESS unit can realize decentralized control according to its local correlation information. Secondly, particle swarm optimization is applied to optimize the control parameters of the distributed controllers to achieve coordinated control. Simulation results show that the distributed BESS controllers optimized by particle swarm optimization can better coordinate with each other, and the transient stability of the system is significantly improved.

In this paper, to overcome the limitations of the weighted combination and single objective optimization methods, we presented a multi-objective optimization and simulation methodology for network-wide traffic signal control. A multi-objective genetic algorithm based on Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II was given to solve the model directly to obtain Pareto optimal solution set. The objectives were evaluated by Enhanced Cell Transmission Model used to describe traffic dynamics on signalized urban road network. The results showed that the single objective optimization method made some of the objectives worsen when the objective to be optimized reaching optimal, and that the weighted combination optimization method gained a compromised solution, but the multi-objective optimization method gave consideration to more objectives, making the number of optimal or suboptimal ones is more than that of worse ones.

Abstract:
The method and results of transport research, carried out by field research method, on the determination of the main indicators of traffic flows with significant unevenness of the movement on the arterial street in conditions of coordinated control is reviewed in the paper. Time parameters of traffic light control for which a reduction in traffic delay is achieved in direct and opposite traffic flow by the change of permissive signal depending on traffic intensity are determined using the simulation method. Change (increase) of the duration of the permissive signal provides uninterrupted movement of vehicles` group during their passage of stop-line at traffic light objects. The proposed method can be used on sections of transport networks with coordinated control, where there is significant heterogeneity of traffic flow, and it prevents the dissipation of groups that consist of vehicles with different dynamic characteristics. Such a result is being performed in the case when in the system of automated control, which combines adjacent intersections on an arterial street, fixed-time program control of traffic light signalization is operating. In this condition, there is a possibility to adjust the duration of signals of traffic light groups by correcting the width (permissive signal duration) and angle of inclination (speed of movement) of the timeline in coordination graphs. The scientific novelty of this research is that the method of traffic delay minimization in conditions of coordinated control acquired further development. The essence of the method is in the controlled change of the range of permissive signal duration in conditions of simultaneous control of the speed of movement between adjacent intersections. Practical value is the application of different programs of traffic light control on sections of arterial streets in transport districts where a significant difference of values of traffic intensity by directions is in morning and evening peak periods.

Abstract:
Traffic control systems for an urban traffic management play an important role in reducing congestion and the negative effects of social and economic aspects. In this paper, the coordinated control method for an arterial road network is proposed. The proposed method is based on fuzzy logic and Webster optimum cycle formula. It is a cyclic method, which means that all-feasible phases at the intersection are get at least a minimum green signal during each cycle. These minimum green times can be used for pedestrian crossing purposes. This method eliminates the starvation that occurs at minor roads due to the non-cyclic strategy. The proposed method is investigated in both coordinated and isolated circumstances. It is compared with non-optimized fixed time control and the cyclic backpressure strategy suggested in the literature. The cyclic backpressure strategy was selected due to its similarity with our proposed method. Based on the obtained results, the adaptive fuzzy logic and Webster based coordinated method outperforms the other methods in terms of the average of waiting time, travel time, travel speed, and queue lengths. In addition, the result achieved from a coordinated situation slightly superior that obtained from isolated situation, which means the proposed method provides good performance both in an isolated and coordinated situations.

Abstract:
Electricity has become not merely a source of power but also a vital component of our lives in a rapidly changing world. However, according to a World Bank report, 17% of the globe’s population live without power. The key cause for such a huge population not being electrified is the proximity of the central electrical grid system or the high expenditure of installing the grid lines to such remote areas. The notion of a microgrid was first proposed more than a decade ago, but the numerous obstacles it entails have hampered its broad adoption and made it a research focus in recent years. A hierarchical control structure of the microgrid is designed, which is divided into layers according to the control objectives and control time scales of the microgrid, and the hierarchical control structure is realized by using multiagent technology. In the framework of hierarchical control, aiming at the demand of energy coordination and optimization of the microgrid, the operation strategy of the microgrid is proposed in grid-connected and/or off-grid mode. In the grid-connected mode, the large power grid is used for power supply and in the off-grid mode, the load bidding mechanism is introduced to ensure the power supply of important loads. Experiment results reveal the power quality and stability of the system.

At hypersonic speed, strong nonlinear couplings will bring enormous challenges to the attitude control of a hypersonic flight vehicle. To reduce the negative impacts of the couplings, a hierarchical coordinated controller is proposed for a generic hypersonic vehicle in this paper. By using a statistical sampling method, a series of coupling analyses between any two different attitude variables groups are studied firstly, and the matrices that describe the coupling degrees are provided. Based on the coupling degree matrices, two coordinated controllers are designed for the attitude angles and angular rates, respectively. The simulation results indicate that the proposed controller can effectively coordinate the coupling impacts, and achieve smooth attitude tracking.

SummaryThis paper presents a method to obtain near minimum-time trajectories for two coordinated manipulators handling a rigid object. A piece-wise constant function is used to approximate the second derivatives of the generalised coordinates of the manipulators of the system. This transforms the time optimal control problem into a non-linearly constrained optimisation problem. The transformed problem is then solved by the sequential quadratic programming technique. A numerical example involving two SCARA type manipulators handling a long beam is used to illustrate the proposed scheme.

Abstract:
The graphical progression method can obtain grand coordinated schemes with minimal computational complexity. However, there is no standardized solution for this method, and only a few related studies have been found thus far. Therefore, based on the in-depth discussion of the graphical optimization theory mechanism, a process-oriented and high-efficiency graphical method for symmetrical bidirectional corridor progression is proposed in this study. A two-round rotation transformation optimization process of the progression trajectory characteristic lines (PTC lines) is innovatively proposed. By establishing the updated judgment criteria for coordinated mode, the first round of PTC line rotation transformation realizes the optimization of coordinated modes and initial offsets. Giving the conditions for stopping rotation transformation and determining rotation points, rotation directions, and rotation angles, the second round of PTC line rotation transformation achieves the final optimization of the common signal cycle and offsets. The case study shows that the proposed graphical method can obtain the optimal progression effect through regular graphing and solving, although it can also be solved by highly efficient programming.

Abstract:
Intersection regions widely exist in road networks as crucial connections, and the congestion effects on traffic in the networks cannot be ignored. In general, a conventional intersection region includes a merging region and more than two ramps, whose congestion brings a serious negative effect on traffic service quality and satisfaction of drivers. Specifically, intersection region congestion is caused by congestion in merging regions. However, current control methods regarding coordination of the variable speed limits and ramp metering in order to solve merging region congestion are insufficient to handle congestion occurring in the intersection region. Therefore, a new method of coordinated control is proposed in this paper based on mainline control using the variable speed limits and coordinated ramp metering. The coordinated control method is formulated considering the degree of crowdedness indexes and implemented based on the queue length, with the goal to relieve congestion in conventional intersection regions caused by merging region congestion. The coordinated control method is further evaluated based on an actual traffic network. The results show that the proposed method is effective in terms of improving traffic service quality and relieving intersection region congestion.

As a new FACTS device, thyristor controlled braking resistor (TCBR) is one of the effective devices to enhance transient stability of generator. In this paper, a coordinated controller for TCBR and hydro-generator excitation system with the multi-index nonlinear coordinate control method based differential geometry theory is proposed. By means of Hartman-Grobman theorem, differential geometry multi-index nonlinear control (DGMINC) design method can reassign the closed-loop system eigenvalues of linear approximate system to the nonlinear system via appropriately selecting output function parameter matrix. Therefore, the system can get good control performance. The simulation results show that TCBR and generator excitation system controlled by this coordinate control strategy can decrease the generator acceleration area rapidly when the severe fault occurred and increase deceleration area significantly after the fault is cleared. So that, power system transient stability limitation improved significantly.

Abstract:
With the increasing integration of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) generation and plug-in electric vehicles (EVs) into the households at user level, household consumers become prosumers. The coordination between the household prosumers and distribution network (DN) becomes essential to the energy management and optimal operation for both entities. In this paper, the residential prosumer cluster is considered as a residential microgrid (RMG) and a hierarchical DN integration method for the multi-RMGs is presented. A two-level hierarchical distributed optimization model is established based on the analytical target cascading to coordinate the RMGs and DNs. At the RMGs level, each RMG is required to individually optimize the energy consumption scheduling in every household by taking into account the effect of time-of-use electricity price on the demand response of EVs and flexible loads. At the DN level, the optimally coordinated operation problem is formulated as a relaxed optimal power flow model based on the second order cone programming by considering the power flow balance constraints. Case studies on the modified IEEE 33-bus system demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method by achieving coordinated economic optimality as well as coordinated operating points for all entities.

Then, the early warning method of inland ship collision risk based on coordinated collision-avoidance actions was introduced; the effectiveness of the early warning method was comparatively analyzed via experimental observations. A framework of early warning model of inland ship collision risk was created based on the early warning method; a collision risk early warning model for inland ships based on coordinated collision-avoidance actions was proposed according to the relationship between the distance/time to the closest point of approach (DCPA, TCPA), coordination degree of collision-avoidance actions of the two considered ships and collision risk; moreover, the early warning model of inland ship collision risk was further considered for quantitative calculation. Finally, the application of the early warning method and model was demonstrated using a case study. The results indicate that the early warning method of inland ship collision risk based on coordinated collision-avoidance actions could effectively reduce the emergence of close-quarters situations and immediate danger, and the early warning model could quantitatively show the evolution of collision risk of two ships along with the process of coordinated collision-avoidance actions.

Abstract:
A supply chain consisting of a single-supplier and a single-buyer is modeled and compared in two different modes: non-coordinated and coordinated. The model is established based on the fact that the demand is uncertain and shortages are considered as lost sales. The buyer’s order lead time is a nonlinear function of the buyer’s order size and the number of shipments from the supplier. Quantity discount offers are used as a tool to achieve the coordination between both parties. In non-coordinated mode the total annual profits of both parties are maximized using partial derivative and a lower and an upper bound are obtained for the supplier’s wholesale price. For the coordinated mode total annual profit of the whole supply chain system is maximized using partial derivatives and coordination may increase the total annual profit of the whole system is mathematically proved. In order to encourage the both parties to coordinate, a fair profit-sharing method is proposed based on the total costs that each party incurs. The supplier’s wholesale price is evaluated such that coordination seems appealing and profitable for both parties.

Abstract:
Abstract The traditional collaborative scheduling method of cascade hydropower stations group has the problem of imperfect regression model, which leads to excessive water consumption rate. A collaborative scheduling method of cascade hydropower stations group considering runoff error is designed. The influence factors of runoff forecast were obtained, the network parameters were called, and the regression model was built based on the runoff error according to the total power generation of cascade hydropower stations in the degree period. The objective function of hydropower system with hydropower stations as the center was established to optimize the cooperative dispatching mode. Experimental results: The average water consumption rates of the coordinated operation method of cascade hydropower stations group in this paper and the other two kinds of coordinated operation method of cascade hydropower stations group are 34.86%, 57.26% and 59.47% respectively, indicating that the coordinated operation method of cascade hydropower stations group with runoff error is more perfect.

Abstract:
The security of power system restoration is severely affected by uncertain factors, especially the start-up time of generating unit and the amount of load pick-up. Solving the optimization restoration problem is challenging since it needs to determine different priorities in which units and loads are restored with the consideration of double uncertainty. Therefore, an optimal source-load coordinated restoration method that is based on information gap decision theory (IGDT) is proposed. Firstly, the time-domain restoration characteristics of black-start unit (BSU), non-black-start unit (NBSU), and load are described with analysis of double uncertainty. On this basis, a coupled multi-objective optimization model is built with double uncertainty, in which source-load coordinated restoration is realized. Then, IGDT is adopted to convert the uncertainty optimization model to a certain one with robustness, which tolerates the most uncertainty and still meets the desired requirement. Finally, the optimization model is solved by non-dominated genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II). The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method is further illustrated through a case study based on the IEEE 39-bus system.
