Abstract:
OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to assess the diagnostic value of a laser scanner developed to determine the coordinates of clinical bracket points and to compare with the results of a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). METHODS: This diagnostic experimental study was conducted on maxillary and mandibular orthodontic study casts of 18 adults with normal Class I occlusion. First, the coordinates of the bracket points were measured on all casts by a CMM. Then, the three-dimensional coordinates (X, Y, Z) of the bracket points were measured on the same casts by a 3D laser scanner designed at Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran. The validity and reliability of each system were assessed by means of intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Dahlberg's formula. RESULTS: The difference between the mean dimension and the actual value for the CMM was 0.0066 mm. (95% CI: 69.98340, 69.99140). The mean difference for the laser scanner was 0.107 ± 0.133 mm (95% CI: -0.002, 0.24). In each method, differences were not significant. The ICC comparing the two methods was 0.998 for the X coordinate, and 0.996 for the Y coordinate; the mean difference for coordinates recorded in the entire arch and for each tooth was 0.616 mm. CONCLUSION: The accuracy of clinical bracket point coordinates measured by the laser scanner was equal to that of CMM. The mean difference in measurements was within the range of operator errors.

Abstract:
✓The authors compared the accuracy of laser surface scanning patient registration using the commercially available Fazer (Medtronic, Inc.) with the conventional registration procedure based on fiducial markers (FMs) in computer-assisted surgery. Four anatomical head specimens were prepared with 10 titanium microscrews placed at defined locations and scanned with a 16-slice spiral computed tomography unit. To compare the two registration methods, each method was applied five times for each cadaveric specimen; thus data were obtained from 40 registrations. Five microscrews (selected following a randomization protocol) were used for each FM-based registration; the other five FMs were selected for coordinate measurements by touching with a point measurement stylus. Coordinates of these points were also measured manually on the screen of the navigation computer. Coordinates were measured in the same manner after laser surface registration. The root mean square error as calculated by the navigation system ranged from 1.3 to 3.2 mm (mean 1.8 mm) with the Fazer and from 0.3 to 1.8 mm (mean 1.0 mm) with FM-based registration. The overall mean deviations (the arithmetic mean of the mean deviations of measurements on the four specimens) were 3.0 mm (standard deviation [SD] range 1.4–2.6 mm) with the Fazer and 1.4 mm (SD range 0.4–0.9 mm) with the FMs. The Fazer registration scans 300 surface points. Statistical tests showed the difference in the accuracy of these methods to be highly significant. In accordance with the findings of other groups, the authors concluded that the inclusion of a larger number of registration points might improve the accuracy of Fazer registration.

Abstract:
The mutual information (MI) technology and the iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm, as intensity-based and feature-based image registration methods respectively, are commonly put into use in medical image registration. But some naturally existing things which restrict the further development need to be faced and be solved. On one hand, they remain heavy calculation costs and low registration efficiencies. On the other hand, since they seriously depend on whether the initial rotation and translation registration parameters can be exactly selected, they often trap in the local optima and even fail to register images. In this paper, we compute the centroids of the reference and floating images by using the image moments to obtain the initial translation values, and use improved fuzzy C-means clustering (IFCM) to classify the image coordinates. Before clustering, this proposed method first centralizes the medical image coordinates, creates the two-row coordinate matrix to construct the two-dimensional (2D) sample set partitioned into two classes, and computes the slope of a straight line fitted to the two classes, finally derives the rotation angle from solving the arc tangent of the slope and obtains the initial rotation values. The experimental results show that, this proposed method has a fairly simple implementation, a low computational load, a fast registration and good registration accuracy. Also, it can efficiently avoid trapping in the local optima and meets both mono-modality and multi-modality image registrations.

Performing engineering surveys is a mandatory part of the development of technical documentation on land management. Surveys allow to confirm the accuracy of the performed geodetic or topographic survey. In particular, the accuracy of determining the geodetic coordinates of the turning points of the boundaries of the land, to link the turning points of the boundaries of the land to the geodetic points of the State Geodetic Network of Ukraine. The main purpose of the article is to reflect the main components of engineering surveys as part of land cadastral works in preparation of land for registration in the database of the State Land Cadastre. The coordinate basis for land management is the State Geodetic Reference Coordinate System USK-2000, the geodetic basis for land management – points of the State Geodetic Network 1-3 classes, points of geodetic networks of compaction 4 class, 1 and 2 categories, points of the surveying network. The coordinates of the points of the State Geodetic Network of Ukraine, geodetic networks of condensing and turning points of the boundaries of geospatial objects are determined by rectangular coordinates (x, y) in the Gauss-Krueger projection in the USC-2000 coordinate system or local coordinate systems. related to the USC-2000 coordinate system. The control of the differential field of coordinate corrections when working with the use of RTK technologies is carried out at least at the two nearest points of DGM and GMZ, the coordinates of which are obtained from the administrator of the geodetic data bank. The difference in the values of the coordinates of control points should not exceed 0.1 m in cities of regional importance, 0.2 m - in other cities and towns, 0.3 m - in rural areas and 0.5 m - outside the settlements. Abstract:
Currently, design and processing of complicated model are enabled by the progress of the CAD/CAM system. In shape measurement, high precision measurement is performed using CMM. In order to evaluate the machined part, the designed model made by CAD system the point cloud data provided by the measurement system are analyzed and compared. Usually, the designed CAD model and measured point cloud data are made in the different coordinate systems, it is necessary to register those models in the same coordinate system for evaluation. In this research, a 3D model registration method based on feature extraction and iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm is proposed. It could efficiently and accurately register two models in different coordinate systems, and effectively avoid the problem of localized solution.

Modern computer vision and coordinate metrology systems provide an ever-increasing flow of information from the physical world we live in to the virtual world inside computer systems. Often the coordinate system of the metrology device has a different coordinate frame from that of the existing objects in the virtual world. To rectify these differences, a process called registration is often applied. This paper uses a case study to highlight the differences between various registration techniques.

This is a master s degree research that has as a goal to discuss the processes of educational planning and of the continued formation of the teachers of Ensino Médio, involving the aspects of group work from the part of the educators/teachers, the moment of registering, the teaching and pedagogical coordination s knowledge and the construction of the teaching autonomy. This work aims to answer the following questions: Why is it so hard to make the work of planning, the exchange of experience, the group study happen in the school, even when there are paid hours for that? Why isn t the time destined to planning, to the exchange of experience, to the evaluation of the pedagogical work and to the continued formation well enjoyed/taken advantage of in the school? State and municipal government and even many proprietors of private institutions generally put down the educator s throats their projects, not asking for their contribution and the most important, not asking for the involvement on the elaboration process. Are the teachers, when resisting the planning process, reacting to this authoritarian way of initiating politics? If not, what are the reasons that take the teacher to reject the changes in his/her practice? What are the questionings that teachers make considering the planning/plan? The dissertation has as a general objective to analyze the answers presented in the explanatory survey made at the beginning of the research, with four teachers of the same Ensino Medio private school and relate them to the bibliographic studies presented from several authors that study this subject. It still intends to focus on the how teachers can use better the process of the group work to a reflexive movement of the act of educating; on the how much the provided and paid hours can contribute to the discussions about the teaching-learning-evaluating process. As a methodological procedure, besides the initial interview, there was a bibliographic study made on the importance of the word based on Freud s studies and, also, the importance of the multi-referential approach for allowing a plural and more human look on the educational processes. Studies on the concepts attributed to the curricular planning politics: the planning and the teaching plan practices built daily. As results, even if they are temporary, we point to: the documents that were built collectively, in an organized space that was provided by the managers of the school; the construction of memory and authorship, the reflection of practices, the visibility of the work and the pedagogical result. The work still considers the importance of continued formation, planned in paid and guaranteed moments provided by the institution, the importance of the construction of knowledge: teachers and pedagogical coordinator and the history of the practices of registering the plans as inherent aspects to a pedagogical project and that must be recognized, valued and stimulated by the institution s politics.(AU)

GHANAVATI, SAHAR. "Localization of Human Pelvis Anatomical Coordinate System Using Ultrasound Registration to Statistical Shape Model." Thesis, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/1974/5982.

Full text
Abstract:
Total Hip Replacement (THR) has become a common surgical procedure in recent years, due to the increase in the aging population with hip osteoarthritis. Identifying the proper orientation of the pelvis is a critical step in accurate placement of the femur prosthesis in the acetabulum in THR. The general approach to localize the orientation of the pelvic anatomical coordinate system (PaCS) is to use intra-operative X-ray fluoroscopy in a specialized interventional radiology facility to guide the procedure. Employing intra-operative ultrasound (US) imaging fused with pre-operative CT scan or fluoroscopy imaging was proposed to eliminate the ionizing radiation of intra-operative X-ray to the patient and the need for radiology facilities in the OR. However, the use of pre-operative imaging exposes patients to accumulative ionizing radiation which is desirable to be eliminated. In this thesis, I propose to replace pre-operative imaging with a statistical shape model (SSM) of the pelvis which is constructed from CT images of patients. An automatic deformable registration of a pelvis anatomical shape model to a sparse set of 2D ultrasound images of the pelvis is presented in order to localize the PaCS. In this registration technique, a set of 2D slices are extracted from the pelvic shape model, based on the approximate location and orientation of a corresponding 2D ultrasound image. The comparison of the shape model slices and ultrasound images is made possible by using an ultrasound simulation technique and a correlation-based similarity metric. During the registration, an instance of the shape model is generated that best matches the ultrasound data. I demonstrate the feasibility of our proposed approach in localizing the PaCS on four patient phantoms and on data from two male human cadavers. None of the test data sets were included in the SSM generation.

Cranioplasty surgery ranks top two in latest nervous surgery operation statistics in the Ministry of Health and Welfare database. Except metal cranium implants, another traditional cranioplasty surgery could hand-made prosthesis by using bone cement. However, the perfect fit and artistic prosthesis is difficult to fabricate manually, especially, the random defeat occurs in different surgical cases. Via 3D image technology progress, three dimension cranium images helped surgeons to observe defeats easily and visually and establish a better and precision surgical planning before the operation. 3D printing technology mature assists the surgical planning to excuse in the operation. 3D printing mode for bone cement plastic surgery will significantly reduce the surgical time and enhance the medical quality. Based on this reason, artificial intelligent design system developed by this study would like to establish a commercial software that will design the prosthesis fit, uniform thickness and customized curve automatically. This study proposed the Demon registration algorism corresponding with transformation of polar coordinate to establish the automatic cranium defeat repair system. The result of repair algorism by using polar coordinate performed better than Cartesian coordinate in cranium defeat repair. With linear interpolation method combined with the polar coordinate algorism will significantly reduce the process time. This study will validate various clinical cases to perform the system reliability and designed prosthesis accuracy. Through the algorism development, this research would like to establish an automatic repair system to solve the surgical unmet needs of prosthesis pre-process time reduction, accurate prosthesis structure fabrication, finally enhance the medical quality in the end.

SERMI, FRANCESCO. "Digital processing of the echo received by an Over The Horizon (OTHR) Sky-Wave (SW) Radar System for Geo-Referencing of radar footprint through the identification of Sea/Land transition." Doctoral thesis, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/2158/799653.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract: Over-the-horizon radars (OTHRs) are HF-band systems that, via surface propagation (ground-wave or surface-wave) or ionospheric re ection (sky-wave), cover an area that is located well beyond the horizon. Though based on an assessed technology, OTHRs are attracting today much interest, thanks to the relevant improvements in signal processing and data storage techniques. By exploiting the propagation mechanisms of HF waves in the Terrestrial Atmosphere, the OTHR is able to overcome the horizon line, that represents a natural boundary for every ground-based microwave radar. In the case of sky-wave OTHR, the re flection of the signals by the Ionosphere allows the system to achieve range distances up to about 3000 km. Nevertheless, the employment of the Ionosphere as part of the propagation-channel introduces an intrinsic uncertainty about the actual HF wave propagation path and, consequently, about the actual geographic position of the radar footprint. In fact, the non-homogeneous structure and time-dependent behavior of the Ionosphere make the a priori models for the propagation channel absolutely useless for a correct Geo-referencing of the received echo. Therefore, every HF OTHR-SW application must include a process to associated the received signals to unambiguous geographic coordinates. Such a process, referred to as coordinate registration (CR), generally relies on an ionospheric model, based on seasonal and daily ionospheric statistics within the radar operating area. Several current OTHR-SW systems perform a periodic update of the ionospheric model exploiting information gathered by ionosonde networks or directly collected from the OTHR with a dedicated procedure. Both approaches exhibit several limitations, leading to a correct characterization of the ionosphere only when it is in particularly steady conditions. The present research is focused on the study and development of a new different approach to the CR problem for OTHR-SW systems. This approach, referred to as Sea/Land Transition Identification (SLTI), takes advantage from the a priori knowledge of the Geo-morphological structure of the surveillance area in order to compensate for the uncertainties introduced by the Ionosphere. In fact, as suggested by the name of the method, the shape of the coastline profiles within the surveillance area are employed as position-references for the geo-referencing of the received radar echo. This task is possible through a basic time analysis of the echo, thanks to the marked difference in the values of the HF back-scattering coefficient for sea and land regions. The SLTI method is based on the maximization of the cross-correlation between the received radar echo and the surface mask signatures for the surveillance area. It can be employed in real time by the system, during its typical surveillance routine and besides the collected data can be exploited to estimate some Ionospheric parameters in order to periodically update and correct the employed statistical model. After a general introduction about the OTHR sensors and a more detailed description of the sky-wave system who we refer to in the present work, the state of the art for the CR procedures actually employed by OTHR-SW is presented. Hence the SLTI method is outlined together with the numerical model of the whole OTHR-SW scenario. The application of the method, in this scenario simulated under simplifying operative hypothesis, is described with the help of some examples for both the CR procedure and the Ionospheric probing task. Within these examples of application of the SLTI method, the minimum requirements in terms of received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and differential sea/land backscattering coefficients necessary to achieve a given accuracy in the range estimate are pointed out. Finally the further developments of the SLTI method and some possible improvement of the simulated OTHR-SW's scenario are pointed out.

In this thesis, we use feature nodes detection and spatial coordinates discretion to build image registration. At the beginning, we utilize wavelet transform to indicate the places with great change of gray-level on age. And those places are the base to extract features. When there is noisy disturbance on the image, in order not to choose a noise-disturbed pixel to be the feature node, we propose a useful method to solve this problem. Then we define distance and angle between two feature nodes in spatial coordinates. Finally, we use the data of feature nodes and the spatial coordinates discretion to successfully find out the part waiting for our recognition on raw image. That our recognition system allows various kinds of graphs is a progress in image registration. Besides, our partial image has been scaled, rotated or disturbed by noise, compared with raw image.

Abstract:
This work is the result of persistence, motivation, enthusiasm and de-dication from a team of researchers coordinated by the Professor and Doctor Marcos Aguiar de Souza and other authors, invited to know how individual behavioral variables interact with and permeate the organiza-tional environment in diverse professional contexts. These variables make up different psychological phenomena, such as: leadership, satisfaction with work and with life in general, locus of control, self-esteem, optimism, gratitude, well-being and personality. The main questions that guided the articles were: how, in practice, such phenomena occur and can be measured, and how transversal skills – also known as attitudinal contents or soft skills – can be developed to promote people´s leadership potential and their wellbeing. The answers to these questions are inside this book and provide interesting opportunities for orientation, intervention and reinforcement of attitudes. This publication glances, connects itself with and, in many occasions, runs through the book “Measurement Instruments in Military Context”, published in 2018, which aimed to develop and validate measurement instruments for the diagnosis of behavioral phenomena specifically in military environ-ments. Thus, we may consider that the present content expands the ho-rizons of perception, metering and registration of behavioral phenomena, aiming to supply, based on evidence, better quality of life and well-being to members of organizations, maintaining high labor performance through self-knowledge, self-determination and self-regulation.

Abstract:
AbstractA peg-in-hole operation is representative of common tasks performed in assembly lines by robots. It requires registration of the coordinate frame where a part resides to the robot frame where it is acted upon. Poor registration causes misalignment of the peg and the hole which will result in a failed insertion of the peg. In this study, the dependence of the outcome of the insertion task on the quality of registration is investigated. It was shown in earlier studies that Restoring Rigid-Body Condition (RRBC) leads to decreased target registration error. This study quantifies the improvement in the Pass/Fail rate when the target registration error is reduced for a given peg-hole tolerance. A robot arm operated in position control mode was used to perform the insertion without performing any search algorithms or force/torque sensing. Results show that use of the RRBC method yielded substantial reduction in failed insertions, especially for tighter tolerances.

Abstract:
Complete CAD modelling by 3D digitizers comprises of full coverage scanning of the part from a number of views in the Reverse Engineering process. Different scanned views are required to be registered into a cohesive coordinate system to generate a practical CAD model. In this paper a high accuracy registration method is introduced in which the preregistered views, obtained by a conventional registration method are used as a base for fine registration. This is based on the relationships of the scanned views in the Laser Scanned model and the scanned features created by the Coordinate Measurement Machine. This method is most suitable for Reverse Engineering of precision parts with accurate and standard machined geometric features and complex but less accurate casting features. Experimental results of the method application on two components are presented.

Abstract:
Image registration is the process of aligning the corresponding features of images in the same coordinate system. Multimodal registration has been widely used in medical imaging and geographic imaging. However, it has not been broadly applied in the inspection imaging of mechanical parts. Multimodal registration can improve inspection accuracy and quality by combining complementary inspection data from different inspection methods, or “modalities”. The research focus of this work is to develop a computational algorithm to register a CMM point cloud with a CT image in the 2-D (planar) domain. Dealing with outliers is the major concern for achieving required registration accuracy. Targeting solving this problem, a new registration metric is proposed in this work, which makes application of the traditional ICP (Iterative Closest Point) algorithm robust, by optimizing the search for closest points.
