Full textA metagrating is a periodic assembly of scatterers designed to reflect or refract a wave toward an anomalous direction, not predicted by Snell's law. In this work, we designed, fabricated, and experimentally characterized such metagratings for the control of ultrasonic waves in water, using brass tubes and cylinders as well as 3D-printed plastic supports. These metagratings enable the redirection of an incident wavefront to an arbitrarily desired direction with high efficiency (close to 100%), both in reflection on a surface (e.g., the water/air interface) and in transmission. The theoretical approach is based on the principles of Bragg diffraction and constructive and destructive wave interactions. The results of this thesis demonstrate the efficiency of metagratings in inducing acoustic phenomena such as retroreflection and asymmetric wave response, achieved through the use of resonant and non-resonant structures, validated by finite element simulations and experiments. This research opens new perspectives for the manipulation of underwater acoustic waves, with potential applications in the fields of wave detection, absorption, and reflection in marine environments

Full textThis thesis deals with active noise control (ANC) in a cavity. The aim is to mitigate the effect of a disturbing sound wave at some points or in a volume. This is achieved using ananti-noise generated, for example, by a loudspeaker. This study requires the use of dynamic models that report changes in pressure at points of interest in response to exogenous noises. Such models can be obtained by frequency identification of point-to-point responses or by using the underlying physical model (wave equation). In the latter case, the search for a low-complexity model (finite dimensional model) is often a prerequisite for the conceptual study of an active control system. The contributions of this thesis concern the development of different simplified models parameterized by the spatial position for acoustic systems, and the design of control laws for noise attenuation. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to the development of various simplified models of acoustic propagation system within a cavity. For that, the simplifications envisaged can be of spatial nature as much as frequential. We show in particular that it is possible, under certain conditions, to approximate the 3D system by a 1D system. This has been demonstrated experimentally on the prototype system, LS2NBox. The second part of the thesis deals with the design of control laws. First, the control strategies commonly used for ANC are compared. The effect of multi-objective H control at different spatial positions close to the attenuation points is analyzed. The possibility of perfect noise cancellation at one point is also discussed

Full textAnalysing the elastic wave propagation in rough plates opens the way to several applications such as the health monitoringof materials in industrial sectors (aeronautics, automotive, aerospace,..). The study here in using shear horizontal waves(SH), focuses on the effects of roughness at the interfaces of a bi-layered structure which consists of two isotropic platesadhesively bonded using a thin layer of glue (the interfaces between the adhesive layer and the two plates are roughenedto improve adhesion), the plates being not necessarily of the same nature. The aim of this study is to characterize thisroughness and beyond to analyze its influence on the quality of bonding. The roughness may have any profile; thoseconsidered here are either periodic or pseudo-random. The approaches used are analytical, numerical and experimental. The analytical approach, based on the integral formulation developed for SH-wave propagation, is used to determine the fields of displacements and stresses in both plates. The numerical finite element analysis using the COMSOL software gives the transmission coefficients. In the experimental study, shear waves piezoelectric transducers are used for the emission and a laser vibrometer for the reception; the final aim being to generate and to identify the modes propagating in the studied structures, and to evaluate their behavior depending on the roughness. The displacement and stress perturbation maps, and transmission coefficients are presented in the presence of roughness, with or without phase-matching

Full textThis work is devoted to the detection of thermal ageing by ultrasonic methods. Fours series of plates have been tested. They correspond to different thermal ageing. Three ultrasonic non destructive evaluation methods are presented: measurement of the transmission coefficient of plane wave, measurement of the electromechanical impedance of a commercial transducer coupled to the unknown medium, a method based on the propagation characteristics of Lamb waves. For each of these methods, a model able to simulate the experimental result is presented. After a sensitivity analysis, they are used in an inverse procedure in order to obtain the evolution of the parameters of the models with ageing. It is observed that the elastic parameters C33 and C55 decrease deeply. The inhomogeneity of the plates increases with the ageing duration
