Abstract:

À l’occasion de ce numéro spécial et devant la relative discrétion de la littérature en matière de conceptualisation des phénomènes à l’oeuvre lors des reprises, cet article propose une grille de lecture originale visant à mieux comprendre ce qui est en jeu dans de tels processus lorsqu’ils concernent des entreprises artisanales. Dans un premier temps, l’argumentation mobilise une approche conceptuelle centrée sur l’identité de l’entreprise artisanale pour mettre en évidence la spécificité du processus de reprise en milieu artisanal. Dans un second temps, en s’appuyant sur un matériau empirique conséquent, récolté dans le cadre de plusieurs études qualitatives ainsi que du suivi d’entreprises en phases de transmission, on tente de définir la nature du processus en termes de rupture ou de continuité identitaire et de montrer en quoi cela peut impacter le succès – ou l’échec – de cette opération. Au final, on propose une grille méthodologique matérialisant quatre « configurations » : deux d’entre elles aboutissent à la rupture identitaire et à l’échec ; les deux autres conduisent à la continuité identitaire et au succès.

Ses dispositions concernent notamment la liberté diagnostique et thérapeutique des professionnels, l’exigence d’un visa pour exercer, la tenue des dossiers, l’obligation de continuité des soins, les conditions en termes d’encadrement, de structure et d’organisation de la pratique, la communication des professionnels au public. La loi crée également une Commission fédérale de contrôle chargée de contrôler l’application de la loi.

Cet article se propose d’analyser un dispositif nouveau (issu de la loi du 9 septembre 2002) de prise en charge des mineurs délinquants : les « centres éducatifs fermés ». L’auteur revient d’abord sur la genèse de ce dispositif et sur certaines de ses contradictions internes. Puis il le situe dans l’histoire de la prise en charge de ce public depuis la seconde guerre mondiale, soulignant à la fois la récurrence des besoins de prise en charge rapide de certains adolescents délinquants, le va-et-vient constant entre les objectifs éducatifs et les objectifs d’enfermement et les évolutions non moins fluctuantes des politiques pénales conduites par les gouvernements. C’est à cette aune que l’auteur tente de déterminer la spécificité relative du nouveau dispositif, qui tente une improbable conciliation entre une finalité de contention et un contenu éducatif. Ceci amène enfin l’auteur à s’interroger sur les conditions générales d’une action éducative en milieu contraignant.

Le centre-ville de Montréal comporte actuellement trois noyaux spatialement et fonctionnellement distincts, délimités par les secteurs urbains du centre des affaires, de Taxe institutionnel et du Vieux Montréal. Notre réflexion porte sur l'élaboration de trois options de réaménagement du centre-ville de Montréal et analyse leur faisabilité. Ces options sont: 1) intégration, par le biais du rétablissement de la continuité spatiale du tissu urbain et des activités socio-économiques, afin de reconstituer l'unité de l'ensemble; 2) différenciation, qui consisterait à renforcer l'autonomie relative de chacun des trois secteurs, afin de renforcer leur complémentarité; 3) introduction d'une structure maillée, afin d'établir des ponts entre les trois unités existantes et de fonder une organisation spatiale et socio-économique en réseau.

Contrairement à une idée reçue, ce n’est pas Vichy qui a créé les camps français. Le processus de leur mise en place commence au milieu des années 30, dans le contexte d’un afflux massif d’immigrés et de réfugiés qui suscitent une méfiance de plus en plus marquée. C’est l’année 1938 qui est l’année charnière, avec la promulgation de décret-lois qui prévoient l’instauration de « centres d’internement » et créent de facto un « délit de dangerosité », pourtant étranger aux traditions du droit français. L’exode des républicains espagnols entraînera l’utilisation massive de l’outillage ainsi créé, et le début de la guerre provoquera une nouvelle vague d’internements et de créations de camps. Vichy va ensuite reconduire pour l’essentiel les dispositions légales de la Troisième République, mais en supprimant tous les freins à l’arbitraire. Le régime se servira de l’internement comme outil de la politique de persécution raciale, ce qui aboutira à la déportation de la majeure partie des internés juifs à partir de 1942. Continuité ou différence fondamentale entre la politique d’internement de la République et de Vichy ? S’il ne peut pas être question d’une « filiation » entre Daladier et Pétain dans ce domaine, le mécanisme d’engrenage qui a mené aux déportations de ceux qui avaient cru trouver refuge en France continue à interpeller.

ABSTRACTFor decades, Canada’s Indigenous populations have experienced high rates of suicide relative to the general population. This commentary suggests that suicide among Indigenous people cannot be explained solely through the causal effects of downstream determinants of health; upstream health determinants such as Canada’s colonial past and cultural continuity are equally, if not more, instructive in understanding the tragedy that is taking place in many Indigenous communities across Canada. Medical trainees and physicians can contribute to improvements in Indigenous health by advocating for culturally safe healthcare access and research, as well as Indigenous-oriented medical training. RÉSUMÉPendant des décennies, les populations autochtones au Canada ont connu des taux élevés de suicide comparativement à la population générale. Ce commentaire suggère que le suicide chez les personnes autochtones ne peut être expliqué uniquement par les effets causaux des déterminants de la santé « en aval » ; les déterminants de la santé « en amont », tels le passé colonial du Canada et la continuité culturelle, sont tout aussi, sinon plus importants pour comprendre la tragédie se déroulant dans plusieurs communautés autochtones à travers le Canada. Les médecins et étudiants en médecine peuvent contribuer à l’amélioration de la santé autochtone en plaidant pour de la recherche et un accès aux soins de santé qui sont culturellement sécuritaires, et pour des formations médicales axées sur la santé autochtone.

Le Nord québécois est un milieu géographique complexe et relativement peu connu. L’adoption du Plan Nord (2011) a suscité un renouveau d’intérêt à son égard, malgré la pertinence relative et les aléas du projet. Néanmoins, des géographes québécois s’intéressent au Nord depuis plusieurs décennies. Ces travaux, dont le pionnier est incontestablement Louis-Edmond Hamelin, offrent différentes lectures du Nord québécois ou canadien. Celles-ci se déclinent selon la dimension épistémologique ou selon un angle plus sociopolitique. Nous voulons donc comparer les diverses conceptions du Nord de quatre auteurs reconnus : Louis-Edmond Hamelin, Christian Morissonneau, Jules Dufour et Caroline Desbiens. Ils s’inscrivent dans un continuum temporel sur plus d’un demi-siècle, bien que leurs écrits sur le Nord ne présentent pas de continuité parfaite sur le plan des idées. Le résultat de cette recherche offrira un panorama des écrits de géographes québécois sur un territoire géographiquement important, voire sur une caractéristique, la nordicité, qu’on retrouve à différents degrés sur l’ensemble du territoire québécois.

Dans son article « L’enjeu de la philologie », Denis Thouard ausculte ce qu’il appelle la culture post-livresque, c’est-à-dire notre rapport actuel à l’écrit qui se concrétise par une intimité de plus en plus grande avec l’hypertexte.C’est à partir de ce constat que nous chercherons à ausculter les conditions actuelles de diffusion, principalement caractérisées par le principe de labaladodiffusion(oupodcasting) qui interroge directement la question économique mais aussi esthétique de la réception musicale. Loin de dresser un bilan totalement négatif de ces nouvelles conduites d’écoute qui ont tendance à soumettre la qualité (choix de l’interprétation par exemple) à la quantité des téléchargements musicaux effectués, nous en discuterons de la façon la plus ouverte et la plus utopique possible. Nous ferons l’hypothèse qu’esthétiquement, il y a là, quelque chose d’extrêmement intéressant qui est en train de repousser imperceptiblement les limites de la sphère économique et même politique. Face à cette envie portative, immédiate, relative et désordonnée de musiques plurielles, il y a aussi un renversement des valeurs qui sont les nôtres : la quantité de musiques écoutées n’est plus nécessairement synonyme d’appauvrissement, d’inculture ou d’asservissement aux logiques de l’économie de marché, mais procède aussi de ce désir de découvrir et de tendre l’oreille. Désir où le total désordre stylistique et chronologique permet de refonder cette continuité historique mais aussi anthropologique qui semblait avoir déserté la seconde moitié du XXesiècle.

Michel Bock se penche sur le Rapport Saint-Denis, fruit du Comité franco-ontarien d’enquête culturelle mis sur pied en mai 1967 par le premier ministre John Robarts afin de faire le bilan de la situation culturelle des Franco-Ontariens. Déposé en janvier 1969, une vingtaine de mois plus tard, La Vie culturelle des Franco-Ontariens livrait le résultat de ses délibérations, « un portrait riche et complexe de l’Ontario français qui débordait largement le domaine strict des arts et de la culture », avec une série de 107 recommandations. Selon Michel Bock, l’analyse des travaux du comité présidé par Roger Saint-Denis « permet au chercheur de jeter un regard probant sur la nature et l’ampleur des bouleversements qu’a connus l’Ontario français à la fin des années 1960 et de jauger l’importance relative des éléments de rupture et de continuité qui se sont exercés, à un moment précis, sur la redéfinition de sa référence identitaire ». À la fois reflet et catalyseur des enjeux débattus au sein de l’élite intellectuelle franco-ontarienne, le Rapport Saint-Denis contribua par exemple au virage de l’Acféo, l’Association canadienne-française d’éducation d’Ontario, dont le nom modifié en Association canadienne-française de l’Ontario (Acfo) en mars 1969 manifestait son ouverture à l’égard de toutes les facettes de la vie culturelle des Franco-Ontariens, et non plus seulement aux revendications linguistiques et scolaires. « L’acceptation par l’élite franco-ontarienne de la nécessité d’une intervention étatique musclée représentait un élément de rupture substantiel par rapport au nationalisme canadien-français traditionaliste », note l’auteur. Le programme de développement proposé, notamment par la création d’un Conseil franco-ontarien d’orientation culturelle, devait amener l’État à prendre ses responsabilités face à sa minorité culturelle, conformément à la thèse des deux peuples fondateurs du Canada, qui continuait, en revanche, de guider l’action de l’élite franco-ontarienne. En ce sens, la logique du Rapport Saint-Denis demeurait très proche, somme toute, de celle du projet national canadien-français. Même si le sort de ce rapport ne fut pas entièrement à la mesure des attentes du Comité franco-ontarien d’enquête culturelle, son impact reste majeur sur le rayonnement des arts en Ontario français.

La recesión de los años ochenta y la subsecuente reestructuración económica tuvieron un profundo impacto en la sociedad mexicana. No obstante, sus consecuencias sobre la movilidad social no fueron analizadas hasta finales de los noventa, cuando una serie de estudios empíricos revelaron las continuidades y los cambios en los patrones de movilidad social. En este artículo se discuten cuatro tendencias recientes: la continuidad de las altas tasas absolutas de movilidad intergeneracional; la reducción de las recompensas monetarias asociadas a la movilidad ocupacional; la creciente rigidez en las tasas relativas de movilidad; y el ajuste del caso mexicano al patrón de movilidad general propuesto por Erikson y Goldthorpe. El panorama que resulta de estas tendencias es el de una sociedad que, a pesar los efectos negativos de la crisis y los cambios estructurales de los años ochenta y noventa, ha mantenido altas tasas de movilidad social, pero sufre en otros aspectos como la calidad de las oportunidades de movilidad ascendente y la creciente desigualdad de oportunidades asociada a los orígenes de clase. El artículo concluye con una discusión sobre posibles líneas futuras de investigación de los estudios sobre movilidad social en México.Abstract: The recession of the 1980s and subsequent economic restructuring in the 1990s had a profound impact on Mexican society. However, the consequences in social mobility were not fully explored until the end of the 1990s, when a series of empirical studies revealed continuities and changes in mobility patterns. The purpose of this article is to discuss trends in intergenerational social mobility. Four findings are discussed: the continuity of high overall and upward mobility rates; the reduction of monetary gains associated to upward occupational mobility; the increasing rigidity in relative rates of occupational mobility; and the overall compliance of the Mexican case to Erikson and Golthorpe’s core model of social fluidity. The picture emerging from these findings depicts a society that, notwithstanding the negative effects of the economic recession and structural changes of the 1980s and 1990s, maintained high rates of structural mobility, but suffered in other aspects such as the decrease in the quality of opportunities of upward mobility, as well as the increasing inequality of opportunity by class origins. The article concludes with a discussion of future avenues of research for social mobility studies in Mexico.Résumé : La récession des années 1980 et la subséquente restructuration économique des années 1990 a causé un impact profond sur la société mexicaine. Néanmoins, ses conséquences sur la mobilité sociale n’ont été entièrement explorées qu’à la fin des années 1990, quand une série d’études empiriques a dévoilé des continuités et des changements dans les modèles de mobilité. Le but de cet article est d’analyser les tendances de la mobilité sociale inter générationnelle. Le débat porte sur quatre découvertes: la continuité de taux élevés d’ascension dans l’échelle sociale ; la réduction des entrées monétaires associée à une mobilité occupationnelle plus importante ; la rigidité croissante des taux relatifs à la mobilité occupationnelle ; et la totale conformité du cas mexicain au modèle type de fluidité sociale d’Erickson et Golthorpe. L’image qui émerge de ces résultats décrit une société qui, malgré les effets négatifs de la récession économique et les réformes structurelles des années 1980 et 1990, maintient de hauts indices de mobilité structurelle, mais qui paie les conséquences d’autres aspects tels que la baisse de la qualité des opportunités d’ascension dans l’échelle sociale, ainsi que l’augmentation de l’inégalité d’opportunités données par la classe d’origine. Abstract:

A 4–m lidar digital elevation model (DEM) provides sufficient resolution to examine the impact of variable till cover on the incision history of multiple small (5 km2) catchments in eastern Canada. The study site was selected because it has homogeneous bedrock geology that dips parallel to the land surface, is tectonically stable, has undergone common base level changes, and has a common ice history, with variable overburden thickness, from thin cover in the west to thick cover in the east. Basin morphometrics were compared for similar-size basins that have variable till cover thicknesses. Basins with thicker till cover are wider and show differences in hypsometries compared to those where till cover is thin. Two basins representing end members of till thickness were measured for stream discharge and water chemistry. Thick till (> 1 m) on the eastern half of North Mountain retards infiltration sufficiently to promote overland flow and accelerate incision relative to areas with thinner till. Till thickness and continuity therefore are expected to impede the achievement of steadiness and may also delay stream power law relationships in larger catchments until till cover has been effectively eroded.SOMMAIREUn modèle altimétrique numérique (MAN) par lidar 4 m offre une résolution suffisante pour étudier l'impact des divers dépôts de till sur l'histoire de l'érosion linéaire de multiples petits (5 km2) bassins versants dans l'Est du Canada. Le site d'étude a été choisi parce que sa géologie est homogène et que son pendage est parallèle à la surface du sol, qu’il est tectoniquement stable, qu’il a subi des changements similaires du niveau de base d’érosion, de même qu’ une histoire glaciaire similaire, avec une épaisseur de mort-terrain variable, d’une couverture mince à l'ouest jusqu'à une couverture épaisse à l'est. La morphométrie du bassin a été comparée à celle de bassins de taille semblable aux épaisseurs de till variables. Les bassins aux couvertures de till plus épaisses sont plus larges et montrent des différences hypsométriques comparé à ceux aux couvertures minces. Deux bassins représentant les termes extrêmes de l'épaisseur du till ont été mesurées quant au débit du courant et à la chimie de l'eau. Les till épais (>1 m) sur la moitié est du mont Nord retardent l'infiltration, ce qui favorise l'écoulement en surface et accélèrent l’érosion linéaire par rapport aux zones couvertes de couches de till plus minces. On s’attend donc à ce que l'épaisseur de la couche de till et sa continuité agissent comme une entrave à la stabilité et puissent aussi retarder les effets de la loi de puissance de l’écoulement dans les grands bassins récepteurs jusqu'à ce que la couverture de till a été effectivement érodée.

Ahmadou Ahidjo, alors président de la République du Cameroun, le peuple camerounais s'est prononcé par voie de référendum, le 20 mai 1972, en faveur du passage de l'État fédéral à l'État unitaire. Considéré par la doctrine comme ayant constitué rien moins qu'un « coup d'État civil », ce référendum est, de nos jours, à la base de la principale menace d'implosion du Cameroun. Le premier objectif de cet article est d'effectuer une revue de la littérature relative au référendum de 1972, qui insiste sur les points de rupture et les plages de continuité pouvant s'accuser dans les développements des différents auteurs. Une frange de la doctrine la plus autorisée a conclu que la procédure ayant conduit au référendum de 1972 ne pouvait faire l'objet d'une critique juridique, du simple fait que ce référendum était l'oeuvre d'un pouvoir constituant originaire agissant ex nihilo et non d'un pouvoir constituant dérivé agissant en conformité avec la Constitution fédérale. Réagissant à cette prétention, le deuxième objectif de ce travail sera de montrer que la subite émergence, au sein d'un État, d'un pouvoir originaire agissant ex nihilo et la mise en oeuvre, par ce pouvoir, d'un nouvel ordre juridique n'autorisent guère à conclure que la procédure ayant conduit à la création de ce nouvel ordre juridique n'est pas susceptible de critique juridique. Le troisième objectif de cet article est de montrer, au-delà de la critique juridique de la procédure ayant conduit à la mise en oeuvre du nouvel ordre juridique, que c'est, essentiellement, la force du nouveau pouvoir ayant ainsi émergé, sa puissance sans rivale sur le territoire qu'elle contrôle effectivement qui fonde sa capacité à ériger un ordre juridique valide. Cette dernière observation se fera à travers l'analyse d'un arrêt récent de la Cour suprême du Canada relatif à la souveraineté du Québec, dont on comparera les conclusions avec quelques-unes des thèses les plus importantes relativement au référendum de 1972 au Cameroun.

This study analyzed the current operational status, business continuity, and business continuity strategies of 11 Soho fashion shopping malls through a longitudinal case study (2019/2020 and 2022/2023). The aim was to determine how Soho fashion shopping malls are continuing their business having been successfully established in the fiercely competitive current online fashion market. Regarding changes in shopping mall operation status, all cases displayed changes in items, distribution channels, marketing channels, core values, and profit structures. After establishing the businesses, a crisis arose due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to difficulties in creating new customers. Moreover, there was excessive business expansion, resulting in saturation of the online platform store market. This meant companies were experiencing reduced sales (5) or difficulties in maintaining their business (3). However, there were differences in the direction of overcoming the crisis and continuing or converting the business. These revealed that to continue the business after successful establishment of an online fashion shopping mall, it is essential to have the expertise of entrepreneurs, work performance, and marketing ability, as well as differentiation capabilities such as product power and management strategy and core competitiveness that provides a relative advantage over other shopping malls. Customized government support at the level of the start-up ecosystem is also essential for the survival and business continuity of a SOHO online fashion shopping mall with poor human and material resources.

3 Background: Previous studies on experienced quality of care and quality of life have not addressed the reciprocal relation between patients and their relatives. For the first time we were able to include almost 700 couples (patient – relative) in a palliative oncological care context. This study aims to assess the experienced quality of care and emotional functioning (EF) of patients with advanced cancer and their relatives, including their reciprocal relation by using a dyadic approach. Methods: A prospective multicentre observational study among patients with advanced cancer and their relatives, recruited from 40 hospitals in the Netherlands or self-enrolled between November 2017 and January 2020 (eQuiPe study). Patients with metastatic cancer and their relatives were eligible to participate. Respondents completed a questionnaire and clinical data of the patient were obtained by linking the information to the Netherlands Cancer Registry (NCR). Logistic regression analyses were performed on baseline data of 1,103 patients and 831 relatives to assess the association between experienced quality of care and EF of patients and relatives separately and across dyads. Results: In total, 1,103 (65%) patients and 831 (71%) relatives completed the baseline questionnaire, including 699 unique patient-relative couples. Patients experienced lower levels of quality of life, including EF, and more symptoms compared to the normative population ( p<.001). Relatives reported even clinically relevantly lower EF compared to patients (69 vs. 78, p<.001) and were less satisfied with care (59 vs. 74; p<.001). Being more satisfied with care in general ( p<.05) and clarity about who their central health care professional ( p<.05) were positively associated with high EF in patients. For relatives, perceived continuity of care ( p<.01) and continuity of information for the patient ( p<.05) were positively associated with high EF. Dyadic analyses showed that EF of patients ( p<.001) and relatives ( p<.001) was positively associated with EF of the other person and perceived continuity of care by relatives was positively associated with high EF in patients ( p<.01). Conclusions: Experienced integral organisation and satisfaction with care in patients and relatives are related to their EF. The additional reciprocal relation between patients’ and their relatives’ EF and the experienced continuity of care suggests the opportunity for a family‐centered approach to optimize advanced cancer care.

À la création de la Commission de l’Union africaine pour le droit international (CUADI), s’est posée la question des bases doctrinales et conceptuelles sur lesquelles cette Commission devait travailler. C’était la première fois et, non sans surprendre, que l’Afrique se dotait d’un organe propre de discussion, de proposition et codification du droit international. Les options doctrinales de cette Commission de droit international devraient-elles se cantonner à la lecture des attributions prescrites par l’organisation intergouvernementale (UA); ou, se situer au-delà de ces attributions ? Il est apparu à ses membres élus qu’elles devaient tenir compte de l’évolution même du droit international et s’assurer de l’universalité du travail de l’organe. La question de cette étude est de savoir comment la Commission oriente ses analyses et ses conclusions en termes de priorités diplomatiques, politiques et juridiques. Il ne fut pas question, lors de la création de la CUADI, en 2009, de rejeter la systématique du droit international, mais d’y ajouter solidement les objectifs que les Africains ont en commun. Les objectifs qui renforcent et consolident également les principes du droit international; ceux qui font que l’Afrique reste à l’avant-garde des développements juridiques internationaux. La CUADI, pourrait-on dire, a une mission, ambivalente : elle est à la fois africaniste, en cela qu’elle protège et insère dans le droit international les valeurs partagées africaines, et, sa mission est aussi universaliste, parce qu’en droit international toute règle doit avoir une vocation universelle. Dès ses premières sessions, et par ses premiers thèmes de travail, cette nouvelle Commission traduit certes une continuité, mais aussi une dénonciation des évolutions récentes du droit international. Les pays africains dénonçaient notamment ce qu’ils appelaient déjà en 2008 à Syrte (Libye) une application abusive du principe de compétence universelle par des pays non africains (Décision EX.CL/496 (XV) relative à l’utilisation abusive du principe de compétence universelle de juillet 2008, renouvelée à Kampala, 2010). Cette dénonciation a constitué l’une des raisons de la naissance d’un organe de conceptualisation et de codification régionale du droit international. Sans que soit suffisamment posée, pourrait-on penser, la question des moyens pour y parvenir.

Introduction: Tobacco use is a major causative factor for head and neck cancers (HNC). Continued use of tobacco even after cancer diagnosis is common and is associated with all-cause and cancer-specific mortality, cancer recurrence and poor treatment response. Evidence suggests that behavioral interventions, help achieve greater smoking cessation rates in HNC patients. However, intervention studies focussed on HNC patients using smokeless tobacco, which is more common than smoking in India, are sparse. Materials and Methods: We conducted a parallel arm randomized controlled trial (RCT) on dyads of patients with recently diagnosed HNC and a close relative. The experimental arm received a brief tobacco cessation intervention (BTCI) and the control arm received treatment as usual (TAU); 27 and 25 dyads in each arm completed the trial. Results: Overall for the dyads using SLT, the relative risk of continuing to use SLT was 3.23 times higher (odds ratio = 7.01) if BTCI was not undertaken at one-month follow-up and 4.43 times higher (odds ratio = 8.65) at 3-months follow-up. For patients only, the relative risk of continuing to use SLT at one-month and 3-months follow-ups was 4.99 and 12.04 times higher, respectively, if BTCI was not undertaken. For relatives only, the corresponding relative risk values were 2.14 and 2.2. Conclusion: We conclude that BTCI delivered to patient-relative dyads, compared to TAU, is effective in enhancing the discontinuation rates of the use of SLT in newly diagnosed patients with HNC. This form of intervention is significantly effective for discontinuing SLT use in the relatives too.

The concept of Relative Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (RRAIM) using time differential carrier phase measurements is investigated in this paper. The precision of carrier phase measurements allows for mitigation of integrity hazards by implementing RRAIM monitors with tight thresholds without significantly affecting continuity. In order to avoid the need for cycle ambiguity resolution, time differences in carrier phase measurements are used as the basis for detection. In this work, we examine RRAIM within the context of the GNSS Evolutionary Architecture Study (GEAS), which explores potential architectures for aircraft navigation utilizing the satellite signals available in the mid-term future with GPS III. The objectives of the GEAS are focused on system implementations providing worldwide coverage to satisfy LPV-200 operations, and potentially beyond. In this work, we study two different GEAS implementations of RRAIM. General formulas are derived for positioning, fault detection, and protection level generation to meet a given set of integrity and continuity requirements.

The Noun Phrase Accessibility Hierarchy cannot explain the difference in relativizability between Chinese and Korean in authentic discourse. Korean exhibits a higher preference for relativization compared to Chinese and this article aims to account for this difference from the perspective of topic continuity. Specifically, the continuity of head nouns within relative clauses is stronger in Korean than in Chinese. By analyzing the parameters of referential distance and potential interference, this study finds that the head nouns in Korean relative clauses display a broader range on the continuum of continuity compared to those in Chinese relative clauses. Furthermore, the difference in the strength of continuity of head nouns between Chinese and Korean relative clauses is attributed to the typological distinction between the Component-Integral Languages and Component-Metonymic Languages postulated within the framework of the Event-Domain Cognitive Model.

Firstly, certain key issues which have arisen so far in the context of cross-border samesex couples under the former Italian legal system will be tackled in order to investigate how this system handled non-traditional family ties established abroad when lacking the relevant legal framework. Secondly, the brand new Italian law no. 76/2016 on same-sex civil unions and de facto cohabitants will be briefly addressed in order to verify whether this law effectively fits the overall aim to overcome gender barriers in family matters in Italy. Lastly, the new Italian conflicts-of-law rules devoted to cross-border civil unions will be considered in order to evaluate whether the serious drawbacks arising from a denied genderless continuity of family status granted abroad are effectively overcome.Keywords: same-sex marriages, same-sex adoption, civil unions, continuity of family status, public policy.Riassunto: Il presente contributo analizza i rapporti tra ordinamento italiano e coppie omosessuali. Questo contributo intende approfondire il costrutto relativo al senso di appartenenza e gli effetti della pandemia sul senso di comunità scolastica. Si sono utilizzati una parte dei dati relativi alla fase quantitativa: i dati raccolti su un campione di 5.770 studenti, 3.531 famiglie e 1.465 docenti, in 25 scuole individuate sul territorio nazionale. Si evidenziano, tuttavia, differenze significative rispetto alle diverse dimensioni prese in considerazione.

Disagreement has persisted in the modeling of Fickian moisture diffusion in sandwich structures as to the correct continuity conditions at the core/facesheet interface. The purpose of the present work is to compare moisture diffusion predictions based on two of the most widely used sets of these continuity conditions. The model problem of one-dimensional time-dependent moisture diffusion in a symmetric sandwich slab is selected for analysis. Finite difference numerical solutions reveal very little difference between the predictions of models assuming continuity of relative humidity and continuity of relative concentration over a wide variety of parametric conditions.

This study tested predictions specifying the influence of caregiver personality traits on negative outcomes of caregiving, health complaints and burden. Two-hundred and thirteen caregivers, who were caring for family members with dementia, were interviewed and their relatives were assessed on cognitive status and aggression. At follow-up conducted twenty-four months later, forty-five caregivers were still continuing to provide home care for their dependents. Caregivers who scored higher on a measure of neuroticism experienced higher levels of burden and health complaints both at initial and follow-up assessment. Caregiver extraversion-introversion did not influence the experience of caregiving. At both initial and final assessment, the ability to enjoy some aspects of caregiving, recreational activities, and satisfaction with social support from family and friends mitigated negative outcomes of caregiving, while appraising the dependent as more troublesome increased negative outcomes. Caring for more cognitively impaired and more aggressive dependents and being female increased negative outcomes initially. Personality traits and most other study variables demonstrated significant continuity across time for caregivers continuing home care.

This research explores continuity and change in foraging patterns over time by comparing data from ancient, historic, and contemporary time periods for the Makah Indians, a Pacific Northwest coast tribe. Zooarchaeological evidence from the late-prehistoric Ozette village middens is compared to quantitative data from a foraging harvest survey conducted with contemporary tribal members. The intervening historic-period foraging pattern is interpreted from ethnographic accounts. The data indicate both continuity and change. A comparison by resource type shows that 56% of faunal resources found in the Ozette middens continue to be used today, with the use of 87% of fish taxa and 84% of shellfish taxa continuing through the 500+ year period. Resources which are no longer used and resources which appear to be newly exploited are reviewed and explained in terms of historical ecology or methodological factors. Relative contribution to the diet by resource category (fish, shellfish, terrestrial mammals, marine mammals, birds, and commercial meats) is compared between circa 1500 and 1998. The data provide a perspective of greater time depth for contextualizing contemporary subsistence issues such as whaling, and help explain changes in productive practices since colonial contact as effects of long-term processes influenced by ecological and historical factors.

Abstract:

Abstract Parties often regulate their relationships through “continuing” contracts that are not fixed term but roll over: employment is a leading example. Our premise is that parties apply fairness when they revise a continuing contract and that prior terms, together with market information, will be a reference point. A continuing contract can reduce (re)negotiation costs relative to a short-term or long-term contract. However, fair bargaining makes adjusting to outside options difficult and may cause inefficient outcomes. An implicit promise of a long-term relationship, as in employment, can improve matters.
