Abstract:
Transracial adoption has existed as a mode of forced displacement and oppression throughout the history of the United States. Starting with Italian children, who were once racialized as non-white, non-white children in the United States have undergone systemic oppression resulting in forced separation from their biological parents. The displaced children have typically been placed with white parents who have not been adequately prepared to provide the culturally competent, trauma-informed care that the children need. As a result, transracially adopted children have historically struggled to form a sense of identity and have faced a wide range of physical and mental health vulnerabilities. Part I of this paper will present an overview of how transracial adoption has been implemented throughout U.S. history, discussing both past models (such as the Orphan Train) and contemporary models (such as the foster care system, domestic private adoptions, and the global adoption industry). Part II will draw connections between past and present implementations of transracial adoption, illustrating that the phenomenon is best understood as a continuation of previous forms of oppression. Part III will propose a number of recommendations for social workers to facilitate better outcomes for transracial adoptees.

Abstract:
Abstract This article examines false registration as a method of domestic adoption in South Korea. The article argues that the practice of falsely registering adoptees as natural births in the family registry emerged in response to the highly restrictive adoption laws in South Korea. As adopting agnatic kin for the purpose of family succession was deemed the only legitimate form of adoption, significant hurdles existed for other kinds of adoption in Korea. This article examines the history of domestic adoption in Korea and highlights the legal hurdles to domestic adoption. These restrictive adoption customs first originated during the Chosŏn dynasty (1392–1910) as a prescription for yangban elite; they were then codified as customary law for all Koreans under Japanese colonial rule (1910–45). The ban on non-agnatic adoption continued in the postcolonial period when it was codified in the new Civil Code of 1960. Multiple legal reforms were attempted since the 1970s to promote domestic adoptions, but change was slow. This article argues that the highly restrictive nature of adoption laws in South Korea produced an adoption regime that existed largely outside of the legal realm.

Abstract:
Purpose Despite ample research on the adoption of online banking, the post-adoption phase remains largely neglected. The purpose of this paper is to develop a new conceptual model to investigate drivers, attitudes and behaviours in the post-adoption phase of the e-postbox, a co-creative online banking feature. Design/methodology/approach Research from bank marketing, services marketing, information systems and relationship management informs the proposed post-adoption model. Empirical tests rely on structural equation modelling and a sample of 750 current customers of the e-postbox of a large German bank. Findings The proposed model provides a multifaceted view of the post-adoption phase, including task-related, organisation-related and interpersonal communication-related drivers. This study reveals the importance of integrating dual interpersonal communication as a post-adoption driver and a post-adoption behaviour. It also extends the technology acceptance model by applying it to the post-adoption phase. Significant effects of age further suggest that younger customers express the most favourable attitudes towards and highest intentions to continue using the e-postbox; interestingly, older customers use it more and share more word-of-mouth. Research limitations/implications This paper develops a post-adoption model that highlights the importance of continued usage for successful co-creation between the bank and its customers. Practical implications Managers can encourage continued usage during the post-adoption phase of a co-creative, digitalised service, which determines the retention of current customers and opportunities to attain new customers. Originality/value This study defines and establishes constructs for the post-adoption phase and categorises them according to post-adoption drivers, attitudes and behaviours.

Abstract:
Research indicates that successful adoption of information technology to support business strategy can help organizations gain superior financial performance. The recent wave of enterprise-wide resource planning systems adoptions is a significant commitment of resources and may affect almost all business processes. This study examines the effect of adoption of enterprise systems on a firm's long-term financial performance. A large-scale data identification and collection method compared the financial data of 247 firms adopting enterprise wide systems with a matched control group of firms cross-sectionally and longitudinally before and after adoption. A number of implementation characteristics were also measured and their effects assessed. The results show that firms adopting enterprise systems exhibit higher differential performance only after two years of continued use. Furthermore, controlling for implementation characteristics as vendor choice, implementation goal, modules implemented, and implementation time period, helped explain the financial performance effects of enterprise resource planning system use. These results provide important insights that complement extant research findings and also raise future research issues.

Abstract:
This research article integrates the technology acceptance model and diffusion of innovation theory to explore the factors predicting the continuance intention to use WECHAT mobile payment services in China. The results showed that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived service quality, social influence, internet self-efficacy, relative advantage, compatibility, and complexity of were all significant predictor of the continued intention to use WECHAT mobile payment services. However, trust in the internet was not significant determinants of the continued intention to use. The results also demonstrated that internet self-efficacy is a predictor of perceived ease of use, relative advantage, compatibility and complexity of mobile payment services. Again, perceived ease of use and social influence were found to have a significant impact on the perceived service quality of WECHAT mobile payment. The implications of these findings on the adoption of mobile payments are discussed.

Abstract:
Critical research on IT adoption dominated by cognitive models grounded in psychology and communication is always in search of new theoretical perspectives to understand, explain, and interpret social issues. Since information plays an important role in IT adoption, this study applies an information science lens to investigate the factors affecting the continued usage of mobile phones in rural India. Analysis of interviews with 22 women earning less than a dollar day reveals the influence of social, economic, cognitive, technological, and information-related factors on their continued usage of mobiles. Micro- and meso-level socioeconomic motives and active information-seeking behavior emerge as the most significant factors encouraging respondents to continue using mobiles against several technical and human barriers. The application of information science lens yields three constructs and ten micro-, meso-, and macro-level variables, advancing critical research on IT adoption with the help of a theoretical lens outside of psychology and communication literature.

Abstract:
This exploratory study examines the adoption actions and attitudes of 16 childless women, and the husbands of 14 of these women, who applied for or underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) in Ontario, Canada, between 1984 and 1987. Interview data reveal that IVF and adoption were sought concurrently by most of these couples and that wives were more in favor of adoption than were husbands. The author concludes that the continued importance of the biological tie between parent and child plus the current lack of “adoptable” babies will ensure that the demand for IVF remains high. However, unless the success rate of IVF increases dramatically, IVF couples will also continue to seek adoption.

Abstract:
BackgroundThe transition from paper-based to online submission of health research protocols using the RHinnO Ethics (RE) platform has been shown to improve efficiency and quality of ethics reviews. However, despite these documented benefits, there are only a total of 40 installations in 12 out of the 54 countries in Africa. We analysed facilitators and barriers to adoption of RE by Researc Ethics Committees.MethodsWe used a retrospective analysis to identify determinants of adoption or rejection of RE by grouping feedback from users into key emerging themes identified through three stages of RE adoption: 1) contractual 2) trial 3) full implementation.ResultsA total of 3947 protocols have been managed through RE by March 2018. Of those reached, 25 per cent adopted and continue to use RE. Of those that rejected, 14 per cent rejected after the trial. At the contractual stage, the key determinants of adoption were the guarantee of sustainable funding, pre-existing good IT infrastructure, and the assurance of technical assistance from the providers. The key determinants of rejection were concerns of cyber security, limited control and ownership by Researc Ethics Committees and cost of the annual subscription. At the trial stage, the determinants of continued adoption and use were continued IT support from providers and a proven comparative advantage over the paper-based system. The key determinant of rejection was limited support from organisation leadership. Those who have continued through the implementation stage emphasised financial sustainability and continuous improvement of the RE as key determinants.ConclusionAccelerated adoption of RE will require increased adaptability of the platform, decrease in cost of annual subscription, improved confidence in security and ownership of data. Developers, Research Ethics Committees and sponsors of RE need to develop a cost-effective funding strategy to increase efficiency, economies of scale and benefits related to harmonised and standardised digital platforms.

Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: This study was designed to examine the extent to which high school teachers intend to continue using the tablet PC in their teaching within the context of the Tablet Project initiative in Kuwait. It explores what drives their adoption intention. Background: Blended learning offers teachers the potential to adopt IT to augment their instructions and refocus their content, target group, context, and ethical facets; explore new modes of education and consider effective methods to educate students; and experience more flexibility in both course design and delivery method. To reap the potential benefits of integrating IT in education, the Ministry of Education in Kuwait introduced the “Tablet Project” in public high schools during the 2015–2016 academic year; three years later, it was unclear whether the teachers would continue using the tablet PCs in their teaching. Methodology: The research model adapts constructs from the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and the Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) models. It includes facilitating conditions (FC), social influence (SI), and teaching efficacy (TE) as predictors of teachers’ behavioral intentions (BI) to continue using the tablet PC in future teaching. The model also proposes a moderating effect of gender, age, and tablet PC experience on BI. To test the research hypotheses, a data set was collected from 206 teachers and analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) method. Contribution: This study provides empirical evidence on important predictors of continuous IT adoption in teaching activities and identifies lessons that could guide initiatives aimed to embed IT in the pre-college education system in Kuwait as well as other similar systems. It contributes results to advance theories and models aimed to explain and predict sustainable IT adoption in education systems across cultures. Findings: While TE arises as a non-significant predictor of BI, SI emerges as the strongest predictor of BI. FC is the second significant predictor of BI, although its direct effect on BI is non-significant. Gender, age, and tablet PC experience have non-significant moderating effects on BI. These results provide significant statistical support for the predictive power of the model, as it explains approximately 50% of the variance in BI. Recommendations for Practitioners: Since this research is directly connected to the reality of IT adoption in teaching in the Kuwaiti high school system, the findings should be of value for the Kuwaiti educational system and future teachers’ professional development initiatives. They should inform future actions and strategies aimed at successfully integrating IT in pre-college education in Kuwait and other similar countries. Recommendation for Researchers: The findings add to the ongoing research effort aimed to develop a better understanding of the intention to continue using IT in instruction and its influential factors across cultures (e.g., Arabian culture), especially since most earlier TPACK studies were carried out in Asian countries and the US. Our findings also confirm the value of UTAUT constructs (i.e., SI and FC) in explaining and predicting the intention to continue using IT by high school teachers, as the research model explains approximately 50% of the variance in the teachers’ BI. Impact on Society: This research offers empirical evidence that adds much-needed nuance to the discourse on teachers’ IT adoption intention and behavior and informs policies and strategies in support of initiatives aimed to integrate IT into education. The provision of a technical and organizational ecosystem that is conducive to sustainable IT integration in the Kuwaiti education system must be part of a more comprehensive initiative to digitize the entire education system. Education policy makers should embrace a digital mindset to adopt IT and transform the teaching, learning, and managerial processes in the system. Future Research: Future research could replicate this study and compare the results, employ other research methods (e.g., focus-group discussions and observations) to investigate teachers’ IT adoption in various educational contexts, adapt research models that include other predictors, and investigate and produce results on students’ perspectives regarding their initial and continuous adoption of the tablet PC within the Tablet Project context.

Abstract:
Educational institutions face significant challenges in extracting interest from their investments in massive open online courses (MOOCs). This study examined the impact of supportive leadership style on university employees' continued use of MOOCs and assessed the mediating role of their innovative work behavior. It uses a multi-theory perspective as opposed to the majority of past studies that use singular theoretical perspectives and extends the information system continuance (ISC) model with the leadership concept. Researchers collected multi-source dyadic data for this cross-sectional study from 632 employees and 316 supervisors from 19 Chinese universities. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling with partial least squares through SmartPLS 3.2.9. Results indicate supportive leadership influences employees' innovative behavior, which mediates between supportive leadership and employees' satisfaction, perceived usefulness, and intention to continue using MOOCs.

Abstract:
The study analyses the Hungarian and Austrian adoption laws that inspired lawmakers of the Czechoslovak Act No. 56 of 1928 Coll. As the Hungarian and Austrian laws, the Czechoslovak Act of 1928 on Adoption recognised adoption as a contract to ensure an heir. It advocated compliance with the principle adoptio naturam imitatur. Therefore, it helped to improve the social and legal position of abandoned and neglected children. For lawmakers, the primary inspiration source was the Austrian General Civil Code (ABGB). Nonetheless, several provisions of the ABGB were identical with the Hungarian customary law, court practice, and office practice. Adopters had to be childless, older than forty years of age, and a minimum of eighteen years older than the adoptees. Married persons could adopt only with the consent of their spouses (in this, the influence of the ABGB was the strongest). Contrary to ABGB, but under the Hungarian court practice, was the possibility for a man to adopt his illegitimate biological child. It was possible to adopt majors as a limitation to the principle adoptio naturam imitatur. Adoption was a contractual relationship. It established a relation only between the adopter and adoptee, while the relationships of the adoptee with the birth family continued. For instance, if the adopter failed in his duty to aliment the adoptee, the biological father had a supportive legal obligation to pay alimony. The main goal of the adoption process was to produce an heir. For this reason, we can conclude that the interests of adopters prevailed over the interests of adoptees. It changed radically after 1949, and the most important in the adoption process has become the best interest of the child.

Abstract:
Although many studies have been conducted to determine factors that influence Internet adoption and use by older adults, the focus has tended to be on investigating the consumers' intention to adopt the Internet. Although the factors that influence intention to adopt lead to nonusers' initial Internet adoption, they do not guarantee continued and frequent Internet use thereafter. Therefore, our aims in this study were to identify the factors that facilitate and impede the process of Internet adoption by people aged 40 years and over. We conducted surveys with 410 consumers aged between 40 and 70 years and found that there are influential factors that are different and some that are identical at different stages of the Internet adoption process. Based on these findings, we discuss implications and suggest effective strategies to encourage consumers aged between 40 and 70 years to adopt and continue to use the Internet.

Abstract:
Background Gamification within eHealth services can increase eHealth adoption. However, little is known about factors affecting adoption of gamified eHealth among older adults. In this study, we sought to explain the (continued) use of a gamified eHealth service among older adults (55+). Methods Participants used a gamified eHealth service, focusing on falls prevention, for 4 weeks and completed a post-test questionnaire based on the Technology Acceptance Model. We used Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling to analyse our data. Results Seventy-two older adults participated with a mean age of 65.1 years (SD = 7.0). Our results show that first, perceived ease of use affected use of the service (use duration: β = 0.303, R2 = 0.130, and use frequency: β = 0.304, R2 = 0.107). Second, perceived usefulness affected the intention to continue using the service (β = 0.754, R2 = 0.640). Third, use of the service did not predict the intention to continue using it. Furthermore, enjoyment affected perceived usefulness (β = 0.783, R2 = 0.563) and aesthetics affected perceived ease of use (β = 0.634, R2 = 0.652). Conclusions This study refutes the expected relation between use and intention to continue use a gamified eHealth service. Additionally, we learned that using theoretical approaches focusing on technology acceptance, are not suitable for explaining (continued) use of gamified eHealth services.

Abstract:
This study aims to understand the factors affecting the attitude towards and adoption of gamified systems, which are receiving increasing interest worldwide as they can be used for attitude change and increasing user engagement in a wide range of areas. Whether individuals use these systems because they consider them useful or if there are other motivational factors deemed important are analysed. Considering the gamification applications as new technology applications, an extended technology acceptance model (TAM) is used based on existing literature to explain attitude formation and adoption of gamified systems. An online survey is carried out on a social networking gamification website (EmpireAvenue.com) and the collected data is analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that extended TAM incorporating intrinsic motivation elements (enjoyment and playfulness) is able to explain attitudes towards and continued use intention for a gamified system.

Abstract:
Nursery and greenhouse growers have an important role to play in conserving water resources. Many technologies are available to help growers conserve water. Yet, within the industry, there may be varying levels of knowledge about a specific strategy, along with inconsistent adoption and continued use. An understanding of these factors can be incorporated into educational programming for this audience. This study evaluated the reported knowledge level of U.S. greenhouse and nursery growers about eight specific water conservation technologies and then explored the rate at which growers had adopted and continued or discontinued their use. Technologies were ranked from high to low adoption rate, beginning with drip irrigation, rainwater capture, water reuse, and microirrigation, followed by soil moisture sensors, climate-based irrigation, subirrigation, and finally an irrigation audit. Overall, greater levels of knowledge corresponded to both greater adoption and continued use of a technology. Other factors, such as economic cost and technical feasibility are undoubtedly important. Findings highlight an opportunity to focus educational programs on the systems-based strategies that are beneficial to growers, but growers are least knowledgeable about to increase adoption of effective water conservation methods that currently have low levels of grower implementation.

Abstract:
In marketing, a customer purchases a product while a consumer uses the product; which means that an adopter of an innovation behaves like a consumer of a new product. But surprisingly no initiative has been made to relate/integrate an adopter with a consumer. This article has done this. Technological, organizational, environmental factors as well as “expectations” from using the technology are important for the acceptance and continued use of a technological innovation. This paper integrates the effect of innovation characteristics along with the expectation on RFID adoption, in the context of Australian livestock industry. To do this, this study first presents a theoretical analysis then presents the outcomes from eight interviews which were conducted among livestock farms in Australia. Finally, it proposes a research framework while proposing eleven propositions related to RFID adoption. Contribution-wise, policy makers may compare their experience with this study, evaluate the past, and find the future direction.

Abstract:
Knowledge management strives for effective capture and application of organizational knowledge, a resource imperative in sustaining organizations. To better achieve knowledge management initiatives, examination of factors influencing adoption and usage of knowledge management systems (KMS) are of great interest. Implementation of technological solutions considered organizational innovation is subject to potential problems of resistance, implying analysis of social factors equally important to technological factors. With Innovation Diffusion, Theory as a foundation, this research examines factors influencing adoption and usage of KMS. The model is extended to include Reciprocity Expectation, an important factor affecting knowledge management processes. Results indicate that some factors are important in determining adoption while others are important for continued usage. This research emphasizes careful consideration and re-evaluation of both social and technological factors throughout all stages of technology implementation; more specifically, Reciprocity Expectation may be an important factor affecting length of adoption, but insignificant in determining continued usage.

Abstract:
Summary Behavioral intention and continued adoption of Facebook: An exploratory study of graduate students in Bangladesh during the Covid-19 pandemic This study is designed to find out the fundamental reasons for students’ social media adoption during the Covid 19 epidemic in Bangladesh. The research object is to build a perceptual picture of the factors that will encourage and impact Facebook’s continued acceptance during this crisis. The sample was taken from 400 students from different universities in Bangladesh. Nine indicators (Trust, Perceived Usefulness, Privacy, Perceived Ease of Use, Subjective Norms, Educational Compatibility, Behavioral Intention, Personal Needs, and Continued Facebook Adoption) were used to experiment. The study results show that the fit indices of measurement model (fit /df = 1.436; GFI = 0.958; AGFI = 0.960; NFI = 0.947; CFI = 0.977; TLI = 0.978; SRMR = 0.031; RMSEA = 0.027; P-close = 1.00) are suitable and appropriate within their prescribed ranges. The mean, standard deviation, internal consistency (Cronbach Alpha > 0.7), composite reliability (CR > 0.8), and average variance extracted (AVE > 0.5) of each constructs are well and appropriate their recommended level which determine the designs of validity. The coefficient of all factors like Trust (0.29), Perceived Usefulness (0.19), Privacy (0.17), Perceived Ease of Use (0.26), Educational Compatibility (0.13), Behavioral Intention (0.45), Personal Needs (0.16), except subjective norms (0.01) have a meaningful and positive effect on the behavioral intention of Facebook that satisfactorily affects continued adoption behavior during covid-19. These observations illustrate the scientific rationale and views relevant to emerging economies like Bangladesh in the context of social media. Several implications have been presented based on the results.

Abstract:
Over the past 20 years, the identification of interventions related to healthcare management has been greatly facilitated by improvements in the well-being and health of the entire population. However, regardless of the positive developments in smart health applications and e-health research, there are two important gaps, (1) the role of gamification variables in the continued use of eHealth applications has not been adequately assessed, and (2) the extent to which people’s perception of the continued use of e-health applications is encouraged through habit. Customers and companies can derive considerable value from exploring E-Health applications’ health self-management services. Accordingly, estimating such services’ ongoing adoption by customers is aimed for in this research, with habits, intrinsic and extrinsic variables incorporated into a study model which is then tested. This paper examined perceived autonomy, perceived competence, perceived relatedness has positively related to enjoyment and habit. Reward has positively related to perceived autonomy and continued to use. Enjoyment and Habit have positively associated with the decision to continue to use in e-Health Apps. 269 individuals who have used Chinese e-health applications comprised the data collection sample, being reached via an online questionnaire. Data analysis was undertaken using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). It was found that the ongoing adoption of e-health self-management services was perpetuated to a greater extent by intrinsic variables; in terms of strategizing for companies’ e-services, the results can inform this process.

Abstract:
Purpose This study aims to reveal the decision-making process that micro and small merchants (MSMs) may go through when deciding on the mobile payment system (MPS) adoption and usage and explore how relevant factors may impact this process. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses the grounded theory approach. Specifically, this paper conducts individual, semi-structured interviews with MSMs in China. Each interview was focused on an MSM’s decisions on initial adoption and continued use of MPSs. The paper then coded the interviews to derive conceptual categories and integrated the categories to form a cohesive framework to explain how MSMs make decisions on MPS adoption and usage. Findings MSMs make decisions on MPS adoption and usage in three phases: first, due to variations in social and economic surroundings, some merchants develop intentions to adopt MPSs, whereas others do not. Second, merchants developing adoption intentions in phase one have to select which MPS brands to adopt and then begin using them. The brand value affects their selection. Finally, the use of MPSs of their initial choice has consequences for business operations. Merchants with different levels of personal innovativeness evaluate the consequences differently. Satisfied merchants continue using the initial MPSs, while dissatisfied merchants switch to other brands. Originality/value The findings first give a more complete depiction of how MSMs make MPS adoption and usage decisions; second show that MSMs’ MPS adoption intention is solely influenced by pro-mobile-payment surroundings and explain what constitutes pro-mobile-payment surroundings and through what mechanisms the surroundings influence adoption intentions; third reveals that selecting which MPS brand to adopt is an important decision phase; fourth explain both why merchants may continue using MPSs and why they may switch from one MPS brand to another.

Abstract:
Several variables can influence the adoption of innovation. Human Computer Interaction research has focused on ease of use as the prime determinate of user satisfaction and adoption. This study explores the issues that influence the adoption, and further examines the knowledge of perceived risk as an influence. The study examines existing theory as it pertains to the diffusion of innovation from the perspective of the Internet, and assesses the extent to which Internet technology can be used in building long-term consumer relationships. Despite the high volume of shopping done on the Internet each day, many consumers fail to make online purchases because of continued reluctance to engage in transactions with intermediaries that are not familiar and trusted. Based on the previous studies, this study posits that perceived risk for security of online transactions is one of the factors influencing online purchasing behaviour, and has an effect on the continued use.

Abstract:
Despite the rapid growth in development of technology, such as software or hardware devices, its implementation among stakeholders working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is slow. This suggests that there might be a number of challenges that hinder technology adoption or its continued usage. The current project aimed to investigate stakeholders’ perceptions on potential barriers in adopting technology. We involved 17 stakeholders, including parents of children with ASD, service providers, and administrators of ASD organizations, in interviews. Thematic analysis yielded three themes: (a) making the right choice, (b) apprehension and concern about uptake, and (c) external obstacles to implementation. This project was the first study to involve key stakeholders to determine components that take place in utilization and adoption of technologies in the field of ASD.

Abstract:
A high level of acceptance and adoption is necessary to facilitate the widespread utilization of renewable energy technologies for cooking, as such utilization is essential for displacing the population’s massive dependence on fossil fuels and solid biomass. Economic and demographic aspects have been the focus of recent literature in exploring the adoption phenomenon of biogas technology. However, literature to date has given little attention to the behavioral factors and the perceptions of the end-users. Our study does not only include behavioral factors, but it employs a hybrid model to explore the continued attentions of users based on their post-adoption beliefs and performance expectations. Using a survey conducted in Pakistan in 2017, the study conducts a multivariate analysis through structural equation modeling to measure the effect of pre- and post-adoption beliefs and expectation on adoption and the continuing intention of households towards biogas technology. Results show that the acceptance of the households towards biogas technology is highly influenced by their perceptions on the benefits, as well as their trust in the technology. The perceived cost and risk attached to the technology are found to be negatively correlated with the acceptance. Households’ intentions to continue the use of biogas technology is highly influenced by the satisfaction level of the users of biogas technology. With the integrated model of adoption and continuation, the study illustrates the dynamic process in obtaining a deeper understanding of a user’s behavior to better formulate the policies for increasing the rate of technology adoption.

Abstract:
This study describes how essentialist notions of motherhood infl uence adoption reunion outcomes. The data analysis is based primarily on in-depth interviews with 33 reunited birth mothers. Collectively, the birth mothers perceived themselves to be the mothers of a child lost to them through adoption. Reunion contact jeopardized this perception when the mothers met adopted adults who did not accept their mothering overtures. Continued contact meant suppressing their motherhood desires and taking on a reunion role more consistent with their adoption triad position.

Abstract:
The usage of mobile Internet service has been on the rise as more people become to use mobile devices. WiMAX, a mobile Internet service, was first commercialized in Korea in 2006. However, after first six months, a number of users discontinued the service and switched to other Internet services. Because customer retention is important for the success of any business, this research examines the factors that affect the continued usage of mobile Internet service. A user of a mobile Internet service is both a user of technology and consumer of services. Therefore, to examine the continued usage of mobile Internet service, the authors combine the value adoption model, representing the service consumer perspective, with the information systems continuance model, representing the technology user perspective. The study is conducted in the context of WiMAX. The data was collected from 200 WiMAX users. The model developed in this study is a unique contribution to theory as it discusses the continued adoption of a commercial information system.

Abstract:
ObjectiveTo identify the key individual-level (demographics, attitudes, mobility) and contextual (COVID-19 case numbers, tiers of mobility restrictions, urban districts) determinants of adopting the NHS COVID-19 contact tracing app and continued use overtime.Design and settingA three-wave panel survey conducted in England in July 2020 (background survey), November 2020 (first measure of app adoption) and March 2021 (continued use of app and new adopters) linked with official data.ParticipantsN=2500 adults living in England, representative of England’s population in terms of regional distribution, age and gender (2011 census).Primary outcomeRepeated measures of self-reported app usage.Analytical approachMultilevel logistic regression linking a range of individual level (from survey) and contextual (from linked data) determinants to app usage.ResultsWe observe initial app uptake at 41%, 95% CI (0.39% to 0.43%), and a 12% drop-out rate by March 2021, 95% CI (0.10% to 0.14%). We also found that 7% of nonusers as of wave 2 became new adopters by wave 3, 95% CI (0.05% to 0.08%). Initial uptake (or failure to use) of the app associated with social norms, privacy concerns and misinformation about third-party data access, with those living in postal districts with restrictions on mobility less likely to use the app. Perceived lack of transparent evidence of effectiveness was associated with drop-out of use. In addition, those who trusted the government were more likely to adopt in wave 3 as new adopters.ConclusionsSuccessful uptake of the contact tracing app should be evaluated within the wider context of the UK Government’s response to the crisis. Trust in government is key to adoption of the app in wave 3 while continued use is linked to perceptions of transparent evidence. Providing clear information to address privacy concerns could increase uptake, however, the disparities in continued use among ethnic minority participants needs further investigation.
