Full textIn the experimental literature on context effects with rating scales, relative judgements are known to be dependent on variations in the distribution of the stimuli. The range-frequency model describes some properties of the responses at an algebraic level. The purpose of the study is to formalise the cognitive processes which underlie the theoretical principles of the range-frequency model. Two models are presented. The centre-based model accounts for context effects in the case of stimuli presented all at a glance (simultaneous presentation). I assume that ratings minimise the sum of squared deviations from the means of the stimuli in the respective categories. The model is based on an algorithm used for the automatic classification of numerical data, in which a new specification is introduced which concerns the constraint of consistent assignment. The model accounts for the results of previous research, and for the results of an experiment which are consistent with classical data (experiment 1). The prototype-based model accounts for context effects in the case of stimuli presented one after the other (successive presentation). I assume that the various response categories are represented in working memory by a series of prototypes. Several rules describe how prototypes are evoked, retrieved and corrected during the task. Quantitative simulations with the model generate good fits to data of previous research, and correct predictions for new results of three experiments. The sensitivity to the context is affected by the order of the stimuli (experiment 2), by the perceptive-mnemonic ambiguity upon the stimuli (experiment 3), and by the instructions of comparison (experiment 4). The results of experiment 4 seem to be inconsistent with two alternative models. The prototype-based model also supports a new qualitative classification of the context effects, which are assumed to be induced by both a dispersion bias and an evocation bias

Full textTo meet the growing needs of the digital simulation and remain at the forefront of technology, supercomputers must be constantly improved. These improvements can be hardware or software order. This forces the application to adapt to a new programming environment throughout its development. It then becomes necessary to raise the question of the sustainability of applications and portability from one machine to another. The use of virtual machines may be a first response to this need for sustaining stabilizing programming environments. With virtualization, applications can be developed in a fixed environment, without being directly impacted by the current environment on a physical machine. However, the additional abstraction induced by virtual machines in practice leads to a loss of performance. We propose in this thesis a set of tools and techniques to enable the use of virtual machines in HPC context. First we show that it is possible to optimize the operation of a hypervisor to respond accurately to the constraints of HPC that are : the placement of implementing son and memory data locality. Then, based on this, we have proposed a resource partitioning service from a compute node through virtual machines. Finally, to expand our work to use for MPI applications, we studied the network solutions and performance of a virtual machine

Full textThis study examines the extent to which word recognition is influenced by the information of grammatical gender given by the french singular definite article (ie / la). The focus is on auditory word identification when words are in the final noun phrase in a svo (subject verb object) sentence. We hypothesize that this information should influence the lexical recognition process by enhancing it. We compared the gender effect with that of the semantic information of the verb in order to estimate its importance. The construction of the material required the elaboration of a sentence completion test. This test was submitted to three groups ofsujects (90 adults ; 105 children) and provided 185 sentences, where the final element is highly predictible. The results of the lexical decision task show an effet of grammatical gender in the lexical recognition process. Moreover they indicate that gender should influence this process earlier than the semantic information of the verb. We discuss this effect in relation to the classical view of spoken word recognition and to the connexionnist perspective

Full textThe objective of the ANR INCOME project is to provide a framework for the development and the deployment of a context manager. A context manager is composed of software entities, which acquire, process, disseminate or deliver context data. These software entities have to be built and deployed over interconnected heterogeneous ICT infrastructures, which include sensor networks, ambient systems, mobile devices, cloud servers and, more generally, the Internet of Things (IoT). Related to this project, the research work presented in this thesis concerns more specifically the end-to-end management of Quality of Context (QoC) within the new generation of context managers that have to be deployed at large and multiple scales over the IoT. Quality of context data refers to criteria like accuracy, freshness, completeness or granularity. As for QoC management, it deals with all the operations that allow, throughout the life cycle of context data, to manage their qualification, but also to impact, according to this quality, on its dissemination and delivery to context-aware applications. Current QoC management solutions are dedicated to particular ambient environments or to specific applications. They are limited in terms of openness, genericity and computationability, properties required by greatly heterogeneous and dynamic IoT-based environments, in which producers and consumers of context data are no more static and highly coupled. Our contribution relies on QoCIM (QoC Information Model), a meta-model dedicated to define, in a uniform and open way, any atomic or composite QoC criterion. Based on QoCIM, some QoC management operations have been identified and specified. These operations allow to associate criteria of QoC, in the form of metadata, with the information of context; to characterize the metrics and units for their valuation; to infer QoC criteria of a higher level of abstraction; or even to express filtering conditions for such criteria or their values. A software tool for editing QoCIM models and a Java API are provided to developers to easily implement the management of any QoC criterion for their software entities that acquire, process, deliver or propagate context data, or their context-sensititive application. The use of this framework was experimented, both at design time and at run time, on a scenario related to urban pollution. Benchmarking was also led and showed that the additional cost brought when considering QoC in context information routing was acceptable. Finally, a solution for self-(re)configuring QoC management operations was also designed and prototyped

Full textThis study deals with interpretative processes and relational strategies implemented by young offenders and educators during face to face exchanges, in the frame of juvenile justice in France. It investigates on how speech resources and communicative means are interactively brought along (and brought about) by the interlocutors. It focusses on how social positions, cultures and interactional histories intervene in the course of speech interpretation and relationship construction. The study is conducted from an interactionnist perspective and seeks to integrate contributions coming from several disciplines. Those have in common to assume that meaning and relational construction are the result of complex interpretative operations, integrating linguistic, paralinguistic, pragmatical and both local and global contexts. It’s approach is essentially qualitative and comparative. This work aims at drawing out some aspects of the complexity embedded in this type of educational activity on the one hand, and the ways by which youngsters speak and establish relationship on the other hand. What is also at stake is to show how taking into account speech and communicative dimensions in this educational area enables to question some professional aspects in juvenile justice

Full text@This thesis deals with the way evaluative activity of personology. It aims more particularly at distinguishing social utility value and desirability value, in the personological vocabulary. Utility notion is varied interpret. For some (pragmatics), utility is determned by the accurate context of individual insertion and for others (normatives), it is a value that has to be understood by the stakes and the social environmental requirements. The results of five researches will agree with Beauvoir's conceptions (1976, 1982, 1984, 1994, 1995) and Beauvois et Dubois (1991a, 1991b). Those results will bring us 4 to ask ourselves about the ways social relations. A group of criteria will enable us to distinguish social relations in two categories. Power relations that take place among the different partners seem to determinate the organization of various criteria. Different conceptions about power will then be approached. Weber's approach (1922) will hold our attention. By analysis power relations with the domination and law concepts, this orientation brings us to put together the social functioning and the power relations

Full textThis work modestly attempts to trace the paths to a real renewal of literary teaching in the moroccan lycee : the critical examination of questions which accompany the extracts of literary manuals reveals some insufficiencies : priority of comprehension to the detriment of reflection on the mechanisms and the writing game; lack of coherence and structuring. Furthermore, the extracts are studied one by one with no apparent projects of lecture. They are simply grouped around headings such as : woman, love, war, etc. According to the notion of grouping, this mode of thematic organisation is abandoned in favour of an organisation where the texts are grouped around a literary problematic. Each grouping fixes the reflection on a precise question : novelistic incipit, spatiality in poetry, comedy, etc. The comparison of texts appeals to the observation, places the pupil in a position of research and inscribes him her in a project of lecture

Full textThis study questions and tests the universality of the fantastic. It consists in submiting the fantastic to a literary context which is unfamiliar to it as for exemple the arabic literatures. The arab critics borrow the occidental terms and don’t claim the existence of a fantastic genre. In support of an occidental critical and literary corpus, we notice that the fantastic has two essential functions : it reveals the thought and renews it. The fantastic short stories written by Aymé, Buzzati and Pellerin, show a problematic articulation between the singular and the common which breaks the mechanics of a binary thought and reveal that it is possible to resolve the paradoxes of this thought by the exposition of an indetermined and problematic outside. We propose to mime this dynamic of the fantastic in comparing this corpus with an arabic outside. The discourses of contemporary arabic criticism and the short stories of Tâmir, Nasr and Tûbyâ introduce a possible thought about the limits of some of the determinations associated with the occidental fantastic. They also introduce the possibility of a fantastic thought able to reveal a new articulation between the singular and the common and between different contexts themselves

Full textThis thesis studies the changes in the organizational structure determined by the implementation of open innovation. Specifically, we consider the changes in the deep and formal structure of a firm. We study these changes in nine firms by using primary data collected through semi-structured interviews and secondary data consisting of firms’ annual reports and journal articles. Our results consist of a new definition of inbound open innovation, a proposition of a contingency model of open innovation at firm level and a deep understanding of the way open innovation impacts the firm. The definition of inbound open innovation we propose emphasizes three main aspects : the integration the openness of innovation into the firm’s formal innovation strategy and the systematic and frequent use of collaborations with various actors in the innovation process

Full textFrom the analysis of a singular enunciation, more precisely that of an artistic exhibition space, we have undertaken to observe and describe the knowledge's and representations' influence in the artistic reception. Our research consists of several aspects: the first one concerns the artistic knowledge's reception (by analyzing the sources speeches -Exhibitions' texts- and the traces of their reception in the “Livres d'or”); the second one looks for in a linguistically speaking, the expression of the experience or the aesthetic emotion. The speeches' description is made from a corpus constituted of three exhibitions' texts (La fabrique des images and Tarzan! at the Quai branly museum, and Renoir au Xxe siècle at the Grand Palais) as well as their “Livres d'or”. The analysis' framework is the speech's analysis as spoken in the French-speaking countries, which associate linguistic's analysis of the line and formal descrption of terms. However the type of our corpus and our empirical object (Exhibition's space) has led us to consider a theoretical and methodological framework of reception's speeches' analysis more oriented toward to the notion of perception and subjectivity. Through the working concept “Contexte perçu”, we will be able to analyse the representations that the “livres d'or” 's writers have of the exhibition, the artist or of the exposed painting. Aesthetic experiences will be observed in accordance with these representations and the received knowledge

Full textIn the past few years, the themes of integration or reintegration, employability, career path have dominated the area of work and employment. The difficulties on the labour market, the emergence of employment without job security, and the demand for ever more adaptable workers, have led us to think differently about the work situation and to ask questions about the factors relevant to transfer of work experience. A significant number of studies in different areas of psychology have demonstrated the specific, contextualized nature of occupational activity. However, the notion of work context, while abundantly present in the literature, is still generally absent from practical work in the area of integration and guidance. The present study defends the idea that analyzing and taking account of the work context can improve the effectiveness of measures taken to assist career development. This work includes three stages: establish a typology of characteristics of context in different jobs of three sectors of activity conceive a method for describing work experience, integrating an awareness of the context into the analysis of work experience; use the method and follow-up 137 workers and 22 advisers in counselling centers. The data collected in this study demonstrate the impact of context in occupational activity and the importance of taking it into account in career development. The data already collected in this study demonstrate the impact of context on occupational activity and the value of taking it into account in the development of career paths. This study also approach the notion of subjective context. It raises differences in individual perception of work context and provides elements of explanation about this phenomenon

Full textThis thesis focuses on the reciprocal relationship between graduate studies in technology and the professional world. The chosen theoretical approach combines a didactic approach to technology and a didactic approach to profession. The results of the study underline the effects of one of higher education's particularities: the curriculum is established by academics, not professionals. The analysis focuses on the translation of a professional situation into that of academic instruction, via a computer-simulator. The results of the study describe the chain of events required to carry out such a translation: the analysis of the professional situation aimed at, the modelling of the pertinent technical concepts, the consequent creation of a relevant curriculum of study and the eventual application outside of the classroom. The didactic application outside of the classroom has to do with the study of how didactic systems work. Depending on the students' profiles, a certain variation can be traced in the technicity register; in the case of technological training, the educational project enters the classroom. How pertinent the instruction is in the classroom relies heavily on the study of didactical systems? Some of the variables concerned include the technical aptitude of the students

In the first part we talk about different questions connected with the indirect context : referential opacity, known or unknown referent of an expression. In the second part, we analyse the semantic conditions who are necessary to interpret indefinite noun phrases in such context. We show that the two traditional values : specific and nonspecific, are not the only values to understand such expressions in such context. We demonstrate that there are six different values and, for each value, we give its distinctive and semantic conditions of its emergence. In fact, we contest this traditional conclusion : an indefinite noun phrase in indirect context is ambiguous

The objective of this study was to establish the frequency of anxiety and depressive disorders among women diagnosed with unexplained infertility and to identify risk factors. Methods : We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study. Forty-two patients from the CHU de Quebec fertility clinic were recruited. The patients completed the “Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale” (HADS) self-administered questionnaire, used to estimate prevalence of anxiety and depressive disorders (score≥8). Results : Overall, 55 % (n=23) of participants were identified with a anxio-depressive disorder according to the HADS questionnaire. Anxiety disorders were more frequent (55 %) compared to depressive disorders (10%). According to a logistic regression model, being under 35 years old (OR = 16.6, CI 1.9-25.0), having never had a previous spontaneous abortion (OR = 5.6, CI 1.1-43.5) and having never sought fertility treatment (OR = 5.5, CI 1.1-45.4) was associated with a higher risk of anxiety and/or depressive disorders. Conclusion : Anxiety and depressive disorders are frequent among women with unexplained infertility and should be sought in this at-risk population.

Full textElectrical imaging (or electrical tomography) is a multidimensional imaging of intrinsic electrical properties of the geolocical environment. In geophysics, this technique allows to convert surface or sub-surface electric data into interpretable images in geological terms. Electrical imaging is frequently used in different fields (hydrogeology, civil engineering, environment, archeology) in a two-dimensional (2d) approach. Assuming the two-dimensional object, this approach may not properly describe the imaged object since most geological structures are three-dimensional (3d). Hence, as the data contain information about the existence of possible 3d structures, an alternative to 2d electrical imaging in order to extract the maximum information from the data is to use a 3d approach. Moreover, for a medium with complex geometry, for example a volcanic environment, a 3d approach is essential. The first part of this dissertation is devoted to methodological development of a 3d modeling tool (direct and inverse) to interpret electrical data collected with undefined distribution of Schlumberger array. A procedure in geophysical interpretation consists of solving two problems: the direct problem and thee inverse problem. In this study, our interpretation algorithm uses a program to solve the direct problem using finite difference. For the minimization part we used a variant of maximum slope method to determine a solution of the inverse problem without the computation of the sensitivity matrix. This 3d interpretation tool is tested and validated wite synthetic data. Then we have applied the technique to real data collected at a large scale (km) on the Djibouti plain. The resulting resistivity models obtained by the 3d inversion of the field electrical data are interpreted in hydrogeological terms. The results highlight conductive units probably brackish water reservoirs isolated by resistive NW-SE structures. The second part of this dissertation deals with an application at a smaller scale, at a Hydrological Experimental Site (SEH) set up within the framework of the Mawari project, on the plain of Djibouti city. A high resolution electrical imaging survey was carried out to understand some characteristics of the aquifer of Djibouti City and the origin of the invasive brackish water. Data collected on this experimental site were interpreted by a 2D and 3D inversion approach using commercial inversion codes (Res2dinv and Res3dinv). The results revealed the presence of a small basin oriented SW-NE which geometry is controlled by a near surface SW-NE fault. The resistivity models obtained also highlighted a conductor in-depth which we associated to a brackish water aquifer. This brackish water aquifer is very localized in the SEH and its reservoir is mainly composed of very porous scoria

Full textSmart home is a major subject of interest. It helps to assist elderly or disabled people, improve comfort, safety, and also save energy. Today, ubiquitous computing is developed and integrated into the smart home providing context-awareness. Unfortunately, understanding what happens in a home is not always easy. In this thesis, we explain how context can be used to deploy services tailored to the activities and needs of residents. Understanding context requires the installation of sensors but also the abstraction of raw data into easily understandable data usable by humans and services. We present a multi-layer architecture of data fusion used to obtain contextual information of different levels of abstraction. The implementation of the lower layers is presented in detail with the application of the theory of belief functions for the abstraction of raw sensor data. Finally, are presented the deployment of a prototype that allowed us to validate our approach and the deployed services

Full textBy comparing the labour migration policies in France and Switzerland, the question is how these two countries arrive at a compromise between a liberalism towards more exchange and a legal system aiming at reducing this opening. This comparative study covers the immigration policies in France and Switzerland since World War II up to the latest laws. By starting with the reasons for emigration of migrant workers we must interest ourselves in the dealings with immigration of foreign labour in the host societies through the work permit, resident permit and more generally speaking the "categorisation" of foreigners. The evolution of the characteristics of the migrant workers is also analysed in order to distinguish bettween the different "generations" of migrant workers as well as their integration into the world of work. The issue of integration is treated through a certain number of indicators regarding the workers ans their families : schooling of children, accomodation, social and civic rights; but also through the analysis of the Host Country. Finally, the impact of the communitarisation of the migratory policies is developed in order to display the possibilities for each country to define the persons authorised to enter their territories in a context of globalisation, according to their respective needs
