Abstract:
Following Portugal’s return of Macau to the People’s Republic of China in 1999, the local government liberalized the city’s casino gaming monopoly and opened the industry to foreign investment. As a result, Macau has become the world’s most lucrative site of casino gaming revenue, and a model for other regional states which are pursuing casino gaming-driven development. This article entails a post-structural analysis of neoliberal governance in Macau and a genealogy of the resulting post-socialist consumer subject. Framed by a critical engagement with Aihwa Ong’s theory of “neoliberalism as exception,” analysis reveals that Macau’s economic growth was enhanced, not by optimizing technocratic rationalities, but by reactive measures taken up by different actors, at several different scales, to address three governance crises of public order, public finance, and public health. What appear to be neoliberal interventions in the Macau economy are often exposed as contemporary iterations of latent governmental forms. These various factors form a dispositif, or apparatus, of subjectification.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide the historical and social contexts for the three protests in Macau in the Summer of 2014, while examining the popular discourse of the protests. These include simultaneous eruptions toward immediate issues, the political apathy of Macau residents and Castell’s model of “networked social networks.” It also discusses the competition for youth after the protests. Design/methodology/approach This paper first reviews the history of Macau, in particular the people’s struggle against corruption and privilege, and its little-discussed history of protest. Its innovation in communications, political structure and education development are also explained to illustrate the foundations which make possible protests against an obsolete social structure. Findings The author finds that the history of Macau since the nineteenth century does not lack protests, with goals ranging from protests against colonialism to national and local demands. Macau youth are now more able and willing to mobilize themselves to make demands on the administration, and activists find it necessary to pass down such experience for generations to come. Originality/value The paper deconstructs the traditional image of Macau’s politics, by appealing to the linkage between continuity and contemporary events, and calls for the reader’s attention toward its social activism.

Abstract The present paper aims to explore how the critical lens of translanguaging can shed new light on the decolonizing language policy and planning (LPP) issues in Macau. As an illustration, we analyze the Chinese translation of a Portuguese poem, Viola Chinesa, in tandem with the visual art piece by the contemporary Chinese artist Xu Bing’s Square Word calligraphy tailored-made for Macau. In particular, we argue that the visual art piece by Xu Bing represents a visual and ideological turn of translanguaging that creates a hybrid piece of calligraphy to reverse the imagery orientalism reflected in the original Portuguese poem. By physically tracing the alphabets through the characters, viewers can gain an embodied translingual experience, which encompasses the ideological negotiation that transcends the Portuguese language dominance. In this boundary-breaking artwork, we can discern the deterritorialization of the unequal language and ideology dominance. Above all, it is concluded that the emerging translanguaging as a political and decolonizing stance provides new insights to renegotiate with fossilized values and beliefs, which in return, contribute to the decolonizing LPP of Macau.

Abstract:
After nearly 450 years of colonial administration, Portugal returned the territory of Macao to the People's Republic of China in 1999. Following the handover, Macao's postcolonial government dismantled the forty-year-old local gambling monopoly and opened Macao to investment by gaming companies from North America, Australia, and Hong Kong. These companies are collectively spending $25 billion to tap the increasingly affluent and mobile market of tourists just across the border in mainland China. This investment has prompted remarkable economic development in the tiny city as well as a phantasmagoric transformation of the cityscape and a concomitant transmutation of Macao's social landscape. Understanding contemporary Macao requires attending to how the legacies of Portuguese colonialism and fascism and Chinese communism and market socialism merge in the spaces of the city today. Drawing inspiration from Walter Benjamin's dialectical analysis of the obsolete commodities of mass culture, this paper meditates through text and photographs on four copresent moments of Macao—socialist fossil, colonial ruin, capitalist dream, and Utopian wish. A form of physiognomic urban ‘dream analysis’ rescues these multiple contradictory meanings of Macau and investigates the city's crucial role in both China's economic reforms and its Utopian desires.

Macau-born and Melbourne-based film maker Clara Law and her screenwriter-producer-director husband Eddie Fong have produced a transnational output of films which are beginning to receive critical recognition as major contributions to contemporary cinema. These ‘films of migration’ explore what Gina Marchetti has encapsulated as ‘the Chinese experience of dislocation, relocation, emigration, immigration, cultural hybridity, migrancy, exile, and nomadism—together termed the “Chinese diaspora”’. The self-imposed ‘relocation’ of Law and Fong to Australia in 1994 was the result of increasing frustration with the rampantly commercial imperatives of Hong Kong cinema and its lack of appreciation for the auteur cinema they wanted to pursue.

Abstract:
Purpose – The Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has a unique identity. This study is based on a long period of research undertaken between 1995 and 2014. Permanent residents, the Chinese of Macau and all other MSAR residents constitute a body of model “citizens” which makes their legal identity understandable in the MSAR’s present social and economic context. Macau’s legal identity is based on centuries of trade and commerce. In Article 5 of the first chapter (I-5) of the MSAR’s Basic Law, the “way of life” in Macau’s society and economy are recognized as part of the MSAR’s legal framework. However, social change may play an important role in Macau’s development. The purpose of this paper is to look at the legal corpus as though it was a physical body with rights and duties, but also capabilities based on the nationality and residence statuses of its citizens, its companies and other entities (which will be studied more specifically in following articles). Design/methodology/approach – This study has used the combined approaches of fieldwork carried out between 2010 and 2015, interviews, and questionnaires. Findings – Way of life and the concept of One Country, Two Systems are key points that contribute to Macau’s contemporary identity. Way of life in the Basic Law constitutes a complex matrix formulation based on a series of particular facts and cultural traits, which leads to a better legal definition of important concepts such as nationality and residency in the particular case of Macau. The Basic Law is the constitutional law of the MSAR, but “Chineseness” still dominates the locals’ identity from day to day. More than 65 percent of the interviewees in the survey asserted their “Chineseness.” However, both Chinese and Portuguese, will continue to be official languages of Macau until 2049. The MSAR’s Chinese society speaks Cantonese and increasingly Putonghua, but it does not seem concerned by communicating using the Portuguese language. Clayton’s thesis emphasized the “unique cultural identity” of the MSAR and wrote that what made the Chinese of Macau “different from other Chinese, is the existence of a Portuguese state on Chinese soil.” Portuguese cultural tolerance is not mentioned, but it is a historical fact that has influenced Macau’s legal identity. The MSAR’s government has done its best to harmonize Macau’s multicultural society and it has particularly protected the Sino-Portuguese way of life in Macau. Practical implications – To apply the law and maintain the existing harmony in its society and economy, legal actions have had to be taken by the Macau government and courts. The courts of the MSAR are structured in three levels and have final powers of adjudication, except in very narrow political areas. The judicial system includes the following courts, from the highest to the lowest: the Court of Final Appeal, the Court of Second Instance and the Court of First Instance (Tribunal de Primeira Instância). Originality/value – This research is unique inasmuch as studies of legal identities focussed on large regions such as the MSAR of China are rare.

“It is extraordinary, and almost like a dream”, wrote a Jesuit priest in Macau in 1589, “that a man can be carried for six whole months in a ship, where the accommodations cannot in any way be sufficient and spacious, and many other difficulties must be endured.” Imagining a conversation with the group of Japanese youths who were sent to Europe as the representatives of the “Kings of Japan”, the author made a blunt assessment of the conditions of the passage to India aboard the carracks that plied the Carreira da Índia: Being trapped on ship for so long was tantamount “to being shut in a prison”. Yet, as he contended, “certainly no one who was offered a house, even a regally appointed one, to live shut inside for six months, could stay detained or locked in for so long; much less on a ship replete with so many different kinds of inconveniences”. Anxious lest his readers misunderstand this verdict on the Cape Route, the Jesuit author qualified his judgment in the fictional reply to this assertion: “Indeed, the inconveniences on ship surpass even those of prison.”

This issue of the Potchefstroom Electronic Law Journal (South Africa) sees the publication of a selection of articles derived from the Third International Congress of the World Society of Mixed Jurisdiction Jurists (WSMJJ). That Congress was held at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel in the summer of 2011. It reflected a thriving Society consolidating its core scholarship on classical mixed jurisdictions (Israel, Louisiana, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Quebec, Scotland, and South Africa) while reaching to new horizons (including Cyprus, Hong Kong and Macau, Malta, Nepal, etc). This publication reflects in microcosm the complexity of contemporary scholarship on mixed and plural legal systems. This complexity is, of course, well-understood by South African jurists whose system is derived both from the dominant European traditions as well as from African customary systems, including both those that make up part of the official law of the state as well as those non-state norms that continue to be important in the daily lives of many South Africans.

On November 4th, 2019, Hans-Georg Moeller delivered a presentation on systems theory at the Law School of the University of São Paulo and was interviewed about Niklas Luhmann’s theory of society, with emphasis on issues such as law, politics, and the history of philosophy. Professor Moeller is the author of important books such as Luhmann explained: From souls to systems (Moeller, 2006) and The radical Luhmann (Moeller, 2011), the latter also translated to Japanese and Italian. He also works on Chinese philosophy and is currently Full Professor at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Macau, China. Throughout the interview, professor Moeller situated Luhmann in the philosophical tradition of German idealism and presented the shift to second-order observation as a crucial aspect of contemporary society, in religion and politics, science, economy and law. The interview was conducted partly in writing and partly in the form of a recorded and transcribed debate.

According to Bolton (2013), Chinese university students are invariably multilingual, not only acquiring English at school, but increasingly outside of their formal curricula, through the Internet, music, computer games, movies, and television series. Indeed, many of these students are also highly mobile, and in most cases migrate throughout Greater China (and abroad) in order to pursue higher education degrees. Bolton (2012, 2013) also points out that current theorizing about English in Greater China needs to take into account what he calls ‘the language worlds’ of these young people, especially with regard to how they use various languages in various aspects of their lives, increasingly sampling different ‘worlds’, both ‘physical’ as well as ‘imaginary’ (see also Blommaert, 2010). Studies of migration and mobility within Greater China – particularly with regard to how this relates to the use of English in the context of local languages and language varieties – have received very little attention. This paper aims to fill this gap by providing a sociolinguistic account of the contemporary use of English in China's higher education, by specifically reporting on a recent large-scale sociolinguistic study that was carried out in Macau and Guangzhou, in southern China. The study reported on in this paper captures the increasing use of English as a medium (or additional medium) of instruction in two universities at these locations. The study also reveals how English is used in the personal lives of ordinary Chinese students.

In contrast to the dominant ideas of how 'game and play' work, which I label 'transcendentalist' and 'sedentary', my study on Macao proposes an alternative, 'materialist' and 'nomadic', perspective. This comes down to thinking 'game and play' not as an 'artificial' activity that takes place in a safe, enclosed environment, but as an elementary part of life, crucial to how imagination works, and to how imagination is entangled in the materiality of the urban sphere. After mapping an alternative history of how to think 'game and play' differently, working with anthropologist Karl Goos, architect Aldo van Eyk, artist Constant, and in the end philosopher Gilles Deleuze, I engage with the city of Macao, its architecture, its politics, and its gambling practices. I use fiction authors Leslie T Chang and Louis Borges to show, finally, how Macao, in contemporary China, equals the infinite game of chance, materialized; the much needed other in its contemporary urban landscape.

“The family” has long been a focus of cross-party attention. While family is perceived as foundational to society’s success, how parents rear their children is perhaps the most conservative or persistent part of concern. While Chinese immigrant families and Chinese families in Asia – in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, mainland China, and elsewhere – are struggling with a socialization process that has emphasized support for traditional values, they are also simultaneously being confronted by modern ideologies and technologies. Professionals have a growing interest in addressing the culturally diverse needs and the gender issues of Chinese families. The theme of this issue of The Open Family Studies Journal, then, is “Gender, family and parenting in the Chinese context”. The heart of this special issue lies in a concern for families, in particular for the challenges posed to families and parenting practices in a changing world. The family, like any social group, is a product of history, culture and context. Because of economic and technological changes, and the increasingly pluralistic nature of our society, both gender relations and family structures have undergone tremendous change, and many challenges await elucidation. The seven papers in this special issue thus feature new perspectives on family, gender and parenting issues. The issue opens with a paper on scale validation. Since intimacy is a construct that has received limited attention in the Chinese context, the first paper, “Intimacy as a distinct construct: validating the intimacy scale among older adults of residential care homes in Hong Kong”, aims to develop a valid measurement for the quality of the relationship between older adults and family caregivers in the Hong Kong Chinese context. The study results demonstrate the reliability and validity of the instrument across samples of older adults. Paper 2 and 3 that follow are qualitative studies adopting cultural perspectives to understand Chinese American immigrant adults and older female survivors of intimate partner violence in Taiwan. In paper 2, “Understanding family connections and help-seeking behavior in Chinese parental lives. These findings illustrate how existentialism provides a new frame of reference and new practice directions for conducting parent-education programs. The final paper titled “Internet supervision and parenting in the digital age: The case of Shanghai” echoes the technological advancement and its impact on parenting. In a changing world, and in a society permeated by the Internet and by nearly instantaneous communication, families constantly need to adapt to different and changing ways of parenting. The paper explores the issue of parenting confidence in supervision of children’s Internet use in Shanghai, China. Multiple-regression models are used to identify factors affecting parents’ confidence about their own parenting. The findings suggest that efforts to assist parents should help them review their attitudes towards the Internet. American immigrant adults who attempt suicide”, the authors investigate beliefs, values and norms in the Chinese family culture and examine Chinese cultural influences on attitudes and beliefs about mental health and mental health services in the immigrant context. Paper 3, “Older female survivors of intimate partner violence in the Taiwanese cultural context” examines the needs of older female IPV survivors in another Chinese cultural context. The findings of both studies reflect the importance of family and the influence of Chinese family culture; they make it clear that traditional family beliefs are still highly valued and hold a prominent position in Chinese culture. The authors of these two papers question the efficacy of service-delivery models based on Western cultures, and they call for ethnically sensitive intervention approaches that incorporate cultural premises into developing viable options for service recipients. Paper 4 is titled “The Macau family-in-transition: the perceived impact of casino employment on family relationships among dealer families”. This paper draws on findings from a qualitative study to explore the impacts of casino employment on family life and family relationships. The family, like other social group, is a product of culture and context, and the specific socio-economic context of Macau poses challenges to dealer families and casino workers in performing their parental role. The paper sheds much-needed light on our understanding of Macau dealer families. The final three papers in this special issue all address the issue of parenting. Paper 5, “Reflective inquiry on professionals’ view on parents and about parenting”, examines professionals’ views of parents, their attitudes and beliefs about parenting, and the values underpinning their practice. The study’s findings on the theme of parent blaming provide an impetus for professionals to reflect on the attitudes and assumptions they hold, and their impact on parents. The paper calls for reflection on parenting work to recognize the difficulties and challenges faced by contemporary families. Paper 6, “Reviving parents’ life momentum: A qualitative evaluation of a parent education program adopting an existential approach”, reports the results of a qualitative analysis of the participants’ perceptions of a parent-education program. The findings of this study demonstrate that a program of this nature can make parents aware of the existential dimensions of being a parent and help them understand the significance of creating meaning in their In fact, family, parenting and gender are vastly contested terms which encompass a range of topics. The seven varied papers recommended for publication in this special issue reflect the considerable attention that we have placed on family, parenting and gender, and also the vision of this special issue. These papers add to the growing body of research and literature, and they provide both food for thought and a platform for discussion. In the last, I offer both my sincere thanks to the authors who have contributed to this special issue, and my gratitude to those who have participated as blind peer reviewers. MACAN Museum (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara) has a wide collection of modern and contemporary Indonesian arts up to the first international scale in Indonesia, and is one of the tourist attractions in Jakarta that is preferred by various circles. The collection is packaged with the concept of art shows and exhibitions that can be enjoyed by every visitor. This research aims to analyze the motivation of visitors coming to the museum using quantitative descriptive methods. Unit of analysis is the visitors of MACAN museum, meanwhile the independent variable is the visitors’ motivation. Data was taken by giving questionnaire to 100 respondents, having observation, and doing structured interviews. The data were analyzed by excel and presented in the frequency table and pie chart. The results showed that of the four motivations, cultural motivation obtained the highest value as the most motivating factor for visitors with a value of 4.19, and the average total value of the four motivations is 3.84 which states that visitors are motivated to visit the MACAN museum. Among the key themes of contemporary Macao poetry, chance and luck loom large, along with their figuration in Macao life through sites such as casinos and temples, through personae such as those of the gambler, the beggar, the prostitute. Macao as dot-on-the-map is likewise conceived as a site for all kinds of portal semiotics, as paradigm for cultural crossing and cultural shift. Macao may be regarded as a work enduring (in Brechtian terms) because it is unfinished. While this is a formula that could be notionally applied to any city, this view seems particularly apt given both the extraordinary pace of change in post-handover Macao (i.e. since 1999), and the present bubble-bursting effect of the 2008 “financial tsunami”. Relating Augé’s conception of “non-places” to Eco’s notion of open (as opposed to closed) text, this paper observes that consciousness of place in contemporary Macao poetry appears to be dominated by two kinds of space, glossed here as “Macao space” and “anywhere space”. Macao space is uniquely of an historical moment and place, something culturally positioned; in anywhere space (e.g. inside of a casino or an airport) subjects are hailed by consumption-oriented reifications of putative universal value. The contemporary Macao poetry typically values Macao space and sees it as under threat from the “non-negotiable” space of culture that could be anywhere. Interested in the paradoxes, ironies and hypocrisies inherent in the present-day culture, politics and international position of Macao, the new Macao poetry reveals a place-based poetics deeply concerned with Macao identity, its evolution and potentials.

Abstract Given the growth the oil industry faced in contemporary Brazil and, since the Environmental Education is a compensatory measure in the federal environmental licensing, the aims of the present article are: i) mapping the publications on "environmental vulnerability"; ii) checking on the incorporation of such concept into the institutional and legal environmental education (EE) framework in oil licensing iii) understanding how the mentioned concept is used by economic agents in Macaé city. The methodology consisted of a participant observation approach used during the implementation of an EA program in Macae between 2012 and 2014, as well as of literature review, data collection in the legislation on EA in oil licensing and in technical documents produced by economic agents. Despite the advancement of academic discussions about the "environmental vulnerability" concept, we see the absence of clear criteria to define the social groups in vulnerability situations in educational activities concerning the environmental licensing.

Art education that has been available and open to the public is art learning that is obtained in the school environment or informal education related to drawing and sculpting. Museum MACAN (Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara) is present as the first art institution of its kind in Indonesia which constructs the concept of a museum to be more alive and relevant to society. Researchers try to see another side, namely how Museum MACAN interprets art education on its website. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using Roland Barthes' Semiotics method to analyze symbols that represent art education. Researchers also perceive art education deconstructed by Museum MACAN through its website. The results of this study indicate that there are other meanings regarding art education that are known to the public. After the liberalization of gaming industry in 2002, Macao has experienced a large number of business, social, and industrial changes during the past decade. During the early 2000 and before, most of the non-profit and for-profit organizations might not have any established departments and sectors for the purpose of public relations. The purpose of this study mainly aimed to understand the socioeconomic development of Macao during (2005-2015) has influenced the demand and importance of public relations professionals. The researchers have conducted interviews with 9 non-public relations leaders serve as public relations professional at hospitality and tourism industry for their perspectives and understanding of the current industrial dynamic in Macao. The study discovered three main themes about 1) the importance of public relations from the practitioners’ perspective; 2) responsibilities and roles; and 3) requirements of contemporary organizations. The outcomes of this study may able to provide a holistic pictures and recommendations for hospitality and tourism industrial leaders, private agencies and NGOs administrators to upgrade and re-consider their human resource planning and public relations management into a higher level.

This article uses adhesives or what I am calling here ‘sticky matter,’ to illustrate multispecies relationships in Macao, a subtropical coastal region in South China. It focuses primarily on a traditional rammed earth material known as chunambo in Macao and other former Portuguese colonies. Composed of oyster shell, straw, rice, local soils and sand chemically bounded together by slacked lime, this precursor to modern day concrete has a unique combination of porosity and structural integrity that makes it particularly adaptable to tropical climates and a contrast to contemporary building practices which are often designed to create sealed interior environments. Discussions of porosity within New Materialism, Urban Studies and Chinese aesthetics will be used to think stickiness alongside questions of material integrity in the face of sea level rise, erosion and anthropogenic forces. Much like limestone sediments formed over the course of thousands of years at the bottom of ancient tropical sea beds, chunambo invites speculation about material permanence in the face of climate futures and a changing urban environment.

The article analyses the media system in Macao, a special administrative region of China that transitioned from Portuguese to Chinese sovereignty in 1999, becoming one of cities in the world with the largest number of published newspapers per capita. Combining historical research with the analysis of contemporary empirical data collected through interviews with journalists working on the ground, the research demonstrates how there is a long tradition of state control that goes back to the colonial era and that has assumed different forms, ranging from outright censorship to physical intimidation of journalists and economic dependence on the government. Limitations and control strategies imposed on news reporting during the Portuguese administration continue to be practiced today by the Chinese authorities. Even so, journalists operating on the Macao media market tend to overstate the level of freedom they are given, which can be attributed to media outlets being economically dependent on the state. Nevertheless, the level of freedom attributed to the press is today higher than it had been during the colonial period with some critical voices being allowed to reach the media. This needs to be understood in the context of what has been defined as the Chinese safety valve strategy.

The architectural development of stadiums in the modern era, led them not to act only as a building, these stadiums often transformed as an icon of a city or even the country where they located. This research was conducted to identify the factors that shape the typology of contemporary stadiums, with Gelora Bandung Lautan Api as the object of study. Based on interviews, observations and literature studies, various kinds of factors determine the typology of contemporary football stadiums. Although the standards issued by FIFA are the main influences, the concepts and approaches taken by the designer also gives considerable contribution. Artists and creative workers are engaged once more in the social and political space. In the current wave, which started in the early 2010s, they have taken part in broad social movements (e.g., Occupy, Tahrir Square), created movements of their own (e.g., Network of Occupied Theaters in Italy and Greece), experimented with alternative economic models and currencies (e.g., Macao and D-CENT), carried out social research and radical education, partnered with institutional and social actors, supported neighborhoods, filled the void left by states’ retreat from the social, and hosted and co-produced art at a time when the budget for culture and independent art is being decreased in numerous countries across the world. This article aims to investigate the organizational and relational aspects of artistic social movements. Drawing on a 2-year-long ethnographic study conducted for my PhD dissertation and deploying a number of research techniques, including participant observation, digital methods, and semi-structured interviews, I propose a new understanding of the meaning of organization in contemporary artistic social movements. My article, focusing especially on data gathered on Macao, “The New Centre for Arts, Culture and Research of Milan,” constitutes an attempt to reflect on emerging organizational models in social movements.

Urban green spaces (UGSs) play a crucial role in supporting urban ecological systems and improving human well-being in cities. The spatial patterns of UGS are vital bases for analyzing various ecological processes. However, few studies have investigated morphological UGS patterns, especially in high-density cities. The Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) in China is one of the four major bay areas in the world. The aim of this study was to investigate the patterns and distributions of UGS in the core GBA cities (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao), and discuss the shortcomings and potential environmental impacts of the contemporary patterns of UGS. Morphological spatial pattern analysis (MSPA) was used to analyze the spatial UGS pattern. Seven MSPA metrics (core, islet, perforation, edge, loop, bridge, and branch) were assessed to measure morphological UGS patterns. The results showed that: (1) Hong Kong has the highest quality habitat, with a large and continuous distribution of UGSs, and a few smaller green spaces scattered in built-up areas; (2) Guangzhou’s UGSs are unevenly distributed, with large green spaces concentrated in the northern part of the city and many small, scattered green spaces distributed in built-up areas, demonstrating the most prominent pattern of green space fragmentation; (3) green space patches in the Shenzhen–Hong Kong region exhibit a relatively complex form; and (4) the UGS in Zhuhai–Macao is relatively discrete, and its connectivity is relatively low. These findings not only improve the depth of understanding of the spatial pattern of UGS in the GBA, but also confirm the applicability of MSPA in the analysis of spatial patterns of UGS.

Abstract This article focuses on the case study of an ethnically and culturally mixed Eurasian Macanese community through their phenomenological experience of identity ambivalence. Our thematic framework includes the structural impact of colonial and postcolonial political regimes in Macao, historical influences on contemporary identity and sociocultural expressions of creolisation. It is argued that the Macanese people illustrate the memory of the ambivalent encounter between the two extremities of the Eurasia (China and Portugal) which started in the 16th-c. and never ceased moving forces to the present day. Furthermore, in the context of fieldwork with the Macanese community in Portugal, an ethnographic approach helps reveal the ambivalent dynamics of similarities and differentiation with respect to food practices and commensality as expressed over dinner by a group of close friends in Lisbon.

When the differences between the followers of these sects is limited to a mere difference of views on this or jurisprudential issue, it is a disagreement or an acceptable difference. Because there is more than one opinion on one jurisprudential issue, so whoever works with this opinion on the issue, his action is permissible. And, whoever works on the same issue with another thought, his movement is also acceptable, and this is from the capacity of Islam and its mercy to the nation. By examining several books related to the views of the ulama on the schools of thought, it has opened the way for us to verify. The article carried out a descriptive analysis approach and a comparative study of the opinions of scholars in different schools of thought and the fatwas issued by our official fatwa institutions. The article find the fanaticism of the sects is one of the causes of the nation's weakness. So, its unity was torn, and its humiliation intensified for the people. And that, they agree on what they agreed upon of the fixed principles, although various problems arise from time to time. AbstractThe Armenians arrived at Guangzhou (Canton) and Macao for trade, no later than the end of the 17th century. Their existence in the Pearl River Delta was noticed by westerners throughout the 18th century. However, due to several reasons, there is little evidence in Chinese sources showing that contemporary Chinese people were aware of such a small group in their homeland. Nevertheless, after a re-examination of existing Chinese records dated from 1751 to 1840, the author could find several pieces of evidence in support of the argument that the Chinese in mid-Qing period might have been informed about the Armenians, as well as the land of Armenia. The names by which the Chinese addressed these foreigners in that period might be of some interest for the research and interpretation of the Chinese texts as well.

Karakter makhluk mitologi ini kerap diceritakan dalam cerita rakyat yang sampai sekarang diadaptasi menjadi berbagai format kontemporer salah satunya ke dalam buku cerita anak. Namun, pengaplikasian karakter dalam cerita rakyat tersebut cenderung kuno dan monoton dari buku satu ke buku lainnya. Sebagai perbandingannya, Jepang yang juga memiliki berbagai macam karakter budaya dalam cerita rakyatnya dapat mengadaptasi karakter makhluk mitologi tersebut ke dalam cerita dengan tema yang lebih kontemporer. Untuk itu, penulis melakukan kajian mengenai desain karakter makhluk folklore dalam buku cerita anak Jepang yang memuat tema kontemporer. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi dan memahami elemen dalam membangun desain karakter berdasarkan makhluk mitologi dan membuat suatu konsep berdasarkan hal tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus karakter desain dalam buku anak Jepang dengan tema folklore kontemporer. Kemudian peneliti membandingkan dengan desain referensi aslinya menggunakan teori manga matriks dan RWD (Ruang, Waktu, Datar). Hasil dari penelitian ini kemudian dapat digunakan sebagai acuan bagi ilustrator maupun penulis cerita untuk lebih menggunakan karakter dari tradisi dan budaya Indonesia ke dalam bentuk cerita sebagai salah satu upaya pelestarian budaya dan cerita rakyat di Indonesia. Nowadays these characters are often introduced inside stories, games, or other contemporary media and one of them is children’s picture books. Sadly, the implementation of these cultural characters were monotonous and redundant from one book to another. As a case study, Japan has similar cultures regarding folktale with Indonesia and has implemented the essence of those characters into more contemporary themed stories. From these findings, the writer delivered qualitative research to study Japanese picture book’s character designs with contemporary themes. The purpose of this research is to identify and understand the elements in building character designs based on mythological creatures and create a concept based on them. The research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach to character designs in Japanese children's books with the theme of contemporary folklore. Then the researcher compared it with the original reference design using matrix manga theory and RWD. Findings from this research may be used as reference for both Indonesian writer and illustrator to create stories and designs based on Indonesian’s characters from folktales as a way to preserve Indonesian’s folktales. Abstract:
The paper presents the results of the pilot study on the multifunctionality of the Lithuanian mental verbs manyti ‘think’, žinoti ‘know’ and suprasti ‘understand’. The study focuses on the first person singular present tense forms and imperative forms of the verbs and analyses their tendencies to function as markers of epistemicity or pragmatic markers in fiction. The data for the analysis have been taken from the Corpus of Contemporary Lithuanian Language (http://tekstynas.vdu.lt), namely the subcorpus of fiction. The analysis of the data reveals that out of the three Lithuanian mental verbs under consideration, the first person singular present tense form manau ‘I think’ is most frequently used as a marker of epistemicity. It expresses author’s judgement on the truth value of the proposition or source of information. It should be noted that individual imperative forms of the mental verbs have not fully lost their primary lexical meaning, yet they have been frequently found to function as pragmatic markers. The imperative forms of the verbs are used to establish and maintain a relationship with the interlocutor, introduce the opposite point of view, summarize the facts that were previously mentioned, boost or hedge the proposition. They exhibit such features as syntactic mobility, absence of the propositional meaning, and rise of pragmatic functions in discourse. Consequently, the forms under analysis may be comparable to sentence adverbs which modify the proposition rather than constitute a part of it.

In recent years, a lot of work has been done in the protection and utilization of intangible cultural heritage in South China, while there are dilemmas such as the variation of inheritance content, the extinction of heritage, and the absence of inheritors, it is urgent to strengthen the protection of intangible cultural heritage with realistic reasons. This paper adopts human geography research methods, based on SPSS mathematical statistics, GIS spatial analysis, and econometric models, to analyze the spatial differentiation characteristics of 10 types of intangible cultural heritage in the region and their influencing factors based on 1,708 intangible cultural heritage data from various regions in South China, according to five regions, Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Hong Kong, and Macao. It was found that (1) the intangible cultural heritage in South China is distributed in clusters, with the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong and Guinan in Guangxi being the core areas of high-density intangible cultural heritage; (2) the characteristics of spatial differentiation of intangible cultural heritage in the region are influenced by a combination of factors, among which the pattern distribution is obviously influenced by cultural factors such as the distribution of ethnic minorities and the number of museums. Finally, from the perspective of revitalization, protection, and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage, the government should propose dialectical and integrated protection of intangible cultural heritage in South China while continuously enhancing its living and contemporary flavor.

Lurik is a fabric that has a stripe motif and is made with a non-machine loom (Alat Tenun Bukan Mesin - ATBM). Lurik’s stripes can be divided into three motifs, namely lajuran, pakan malang, and cacahan. In the beginning lurik was only worn in the palace circles, not just by anyone, especially common people. In its development, lurik becomes a general public consumption; especially among urbanites lurik is a means to build their identities. This research studies contemporary works in lurik fashion, which are hybridity between elements in traditional lurik and elements existing in the culture or lifestyle of urbanites in building their new identity; it is a combination of qualitative research and the utilization of literary exploration. The primary data objects are various examples of contemporary lurik, which are analysed through content analysis. The content analysis applied here is Homi Bhabha’s post colonialism, which is a part of the deconstructive postmodern text interpretation method. The results show the following: (1) contemporary lurik fashion is a fusion between elements representing Eastern culture, viz. lurik with lajuran motifs, pakan malang, and cacahan, with elements that represent Western culture, viz. long wrap dresses, midi dress, and semi billowy airy dress, (2) based on an elucidation of internal aspects, contemporary lurik fashion expresses a dualism in meaning, viz. the popular meanings that is the superficial appreciations enjoyed by the common people and the subliminal meanings indicating depth of lurik motifs the meaning of which are studied by people who understand their significance. (3) Based on the interpretation of external aspects, contemporary lurik fashion is a form of resistance to modern Western fashion as well as being a Keraton tradition. Posed against Western fashion, hybridity is used as a way to de-colonialize Western influences that are considered incompatible with Eastern culture. Meanwhile, in the perspective of Keraton tradition, hybridity is carried out as a form of desacralization so that lurik can be utilized by as many people as possible as an individual expression, (4) the hybridity in contemporary lurik fashion creates a new identity, namely its placement in urban spaces and lifestyles more broadly, especially in relation to its access in semi-formal environment.Lurik merupakan kain yang mempunyai motif garis-garis dan dibuat dengan alat tenun bukan mesin (ATBM). Motif garis-garis pada lurik dapat dibagi ke dalam tiga macam motif, yaitu lajuran, pakan malang, dan cacahan. Lurik sendiri pada awalnya hanya digunakan di keraton dan tidak boleh digunakan oleh sembarang orang apalagi rakyat biasa. Pada perkembangannya, lurik kemudian menjadi konsumsi umum terutama bagi kaum urban dalam membangun identitasnya. Penelitian ini mengkaji karya-karya fashion lurik kontemporer yang merupakan hibriditas antara unsur-unsur dalam lurik tradisional dengan unsur-unsur yang ada dalam budaya atau gaya hidup kaum urban dalam rangka membangun identitas baru yang merupakan hasil peleburan atau fusi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan menggunakan data-data kepustakaan. Objek data primer ini adalah berbagai contoh busana lurik kontemporer untuk kemudian dianalisis dengan analisis konten. Analisis konten yang digunakan adalah dengan menggunakan poskolonialisme Homi Bhabha yang merupakan satu bagian dari metode tafsir teks posmodern dekonstruktif. Hasil penelitian kemudian menunjukkan hal-hal berikut ini: (1) fashion lurik kontemporer adalah peleburan atau fusi antara unsur yang merepresentasikan budaya Timur, yaitu lurik dengan motif lajuran, pakan malang, dan cacahan dengan unsur-unsur yang merepresentasikan budaya Barat, yaitu gaun panjang (long wrap dress), midi dress, dan gaun airy semi billowy, (2) berdasarkan interpretasi terhadap aspek internal, fashion lurik kontemporer melahirkan dualisme makna, yaitu makna populer yang cenderung dinikmati secara permukaan untuk diapresiasi orang awam dan makna subliminal yang menunjukkan adanya kedalaman pada motif-motif lurik yang digunakan untuk dikaji secara mendalam oleh orang yang paham makna lurik secara mendalam, (3) berdasarkan interpretasi terhadap aspek eksternal, fashion lurik kontemporer adalah bentuk resistensi terhadap fashion modern Barat sekaligus tradisi keraton. Terhadap fashion modern Barat, hibriditas dilakukan sebagai cara untuk dekolonialisasi terhadap pengaruh-pengaruh Barat yang dianggap tidak sesuai sepenuhnya dengan budaya Timur. Sementara terhadap tradisi keraton, hibriditas dilakukan sebagai bentuk desakralisasi agar lurik dapat dikonsumsi oleh sebanyak mungkin orang sebagai ekspresi individual, (4) hibriditas yang dilakukan pada fashion lurik kontemporer melahirkan identitas baru, yaitu penempatan lurik pada ruang dan gaya hidup urban secara lebih luas terutama terkait aksesnya pada situasi semiformal.

Qur’anic revelation to the Prophet Muhmmad is centrally discussed in the science of the Qur’an ('ulumul qur'ân) under the theme of ‘the occasion of revelation (asbâb an-nuzul). In producing law (istinbath), a Muslim jurist or exegete should not only rely on the text of the Qur’an but also the context in which it was revealed. It is significant, therefore, to examine the function of asbâb an-nuzul in the context of interpretation, using a descriptive-analytical method. It functions as follows. First, it makes Qur’anic verses more relevant to contemporary conditions. Second, by knowing the occasion of revelation, an exegete not onlyunderstand Qur’anic verses as a textual redaction but also in response to conditional needs in a given context. AbstrakAl-Qur’an adalah hidayah bagi segenap manusia, dalam menurunkan pesan kewahyuan Allah swt. menggunakan berbagai macam gaya. Diturunkannya al-Qur’an kepada Nabi Muhammad saw. melalui berbagai proses yang melatar belakanginya, dalam pembahasan ‘ulumul qur’ân, ini disebut asbâb an-nuzul, ketika mengambil istinbath hukum dalam al-Qur’an seorang mufassir tidak hanya berpatokan pada teks al-Qur’an, melainkan juga harus melihat konteks ayat ketika diturunkan. AbstrakSampah menjadi persoalan yang tidak pernah selesai, dari zaman purba hingga sekarang, keberadaannya semakin banyak dan mulai tidak terkendali. Berbagai berita baik di media cetak maupun elektronik selalu menawarkan bermacam-macam produk yang menggiurkan masyarakat untuk melakukan peran konsumtif, dan akan berbahaya jika masyarakat tidak menyadari bahwa dari sisa konsumtif akan terjadi sampah. Penciptaan karya fotografi ini bertujuan untuk memunculkan foto-foto tentang sampah pola konsumtif dari penulis. Berdasarkan atas pola konsumtif tersebut diperoleh data otentik tentang perilaku konsumsi diri sendiri yang kemudian dikonstruksi menjadi rancangan untuk pemotretan. Foto yang dihasilkan merupakan karya seni fotografi still life dalam ranah fotografi kontemporer. Resulting photographs show thay thay belong to the genre of still life photography in the domain of contemporary photography. The photographs proved that camera was not only able to represent ideas and the habit of certain people, but also to represent the pattern of human’s biological life. <p>The discourse on democracy and all its variants, including the term shura, is an issue that is never obsolete in the study of the Qur'an. In the last few decades, Muslim scholars have begun to see the issue of shura as a discourse that must be read more widely along with the changing times. Therefore, Muslim scholars created a modern generation to respond to the concept of shura in a new social, political, economic and cultural context, especially with the contextuality method of the Qur'an. One of the figures applying the concept of shura is Abdullah Saeed, a contemporary thinker who introduced the study of the Qur'an through a contextual approach. Abdullah Saeed tries to revisit the term shura through two groups of interpretations, namely pre-modern interpretations such as al-Thabari, Zamakhsari, al-Razi and al-Qurtubi, and the interpretation that follows by quoting the work of Sayyid Abul A'la al - Maududi and Sayyid Qutb. This paper intends to further explore Abdullah Saeed's opinion on the term shura after conducting an in-depth study of the two groups of interpreters. This paper also attempts to provide a 'critical' note on the thoughts put forward by Abdullah Saeed by comparing them with other contemporary thinkers.</p><p> </p><p>Diskursus tentang demokrasi dan segala macam variannya, salah satunya adalah term <em>syura,</em> merupakan isu yang tidak pernah usang dalam studi al-Qur’an. Beberapa dekade terakhir, para cendekiawan Muslim mulai memandang isu <em>syura </em>sebagai wacana yang harus dibaca lebih luas seiring perubahan zaman. Oleh karena itu, para kelompok cendekiawan Muslim generasi modern cenderung untuk menafsirkan ulang konsep <em>syura</em> dalam konteks sosial, politik, ekonomi, dan budaya, khususnya dengan menyoroti metode kontekstual penafsiran al-Qur'an. Salah satu aktor yang berperan dalam usaha untuk menafsirkan ulang konsep <em>syura </em>ini adalah Abdullah Saeed, salah seorang pemikir kontemporer yang mengenalkan kajian al-Qur’an melalui pendekatan kontekstual. However, the foremost justification of this paper was the identification of several gaps of literatures in the selection of samples that usually lead to misunderstanding. This is because literatures mostly are not related to arts. The misunderstanding includes sample design and representative sample selected size determination. Nevertheless, there is a wide variety of techniques, different styles and trends that influence the field of contemporary art. Confusion is created when many researchers rely on a random sampling strategy that relies heavily on artists rather than works of art. The aim of this study is to explain how to select a representative sample of a heterogeneous population in art-related research. The investigation provided a new vision to select samples of artists, art works and art lovers. This study used an inductive approach through reading books, articles, newspapers, and opinions of philosophers and scholars in the field of research methodology. The most important result of this paper is that non-random sampling is better and more effective than random sampling strategy in art-related studies as it provides beneficial results for heterogeneous populations especially with regard to artists, works of art and art lovers. Sampel Tidak Acak sebagai Alat Pengumpulan Data dalam Studi Terkait Seni Kualitatif ABSTRAKPengambilan sampel tidak acak sebagai alat dalam pengumpulan data telah menjadi isu yang menonjol dalam fenomena yang berkaitan dengan seni dan lebih rumit dari sebelumnya dikarenakan heterogenitas populasi penelitian. Namun justifikasi utama dari makalah ini adalah identifikasi beberapa gap literatur dalam pemilihan sampel yang biasanya menimbulkan kesalahpahaman. Hal ini karena kebanyakan literatur tidak berkaitan dengan seni. Kesalahpahaman mencakup desain sampel dan penentuan ukuran sampel yang dipilih secara representatif. Namun demikian, ada berbagai macam teknik, gaya dan tren berbeda yang mempengaruhi bidang seni rupa kontemporer. Kebingungan tercipta ketika banyak peneliti mengandalkan strategi pengambilan sampel acak yang sangat bergantung pada seniman daripada karya seni. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan bagaimana memilih sampel yang representatif dari populasi yang heterogen dalam penelitian yang terkait dengan seni. Investigasi memberikan visi baru untuk memilih sampel seniman, karya seni dan pecinta seni. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan induktif melalui membaca buku, artikel, surat kabar, dan pendapat filsuf dan sarjana dalam bidang metodologi penelitian. Hasil terpenting dari makalah ini adalah pengambilan sampel tidak acak lebih baik dan lebih efektif daripada strategi pengambilan sampel secara acak dalam studi terkait seni karena memberikan hasil yang bermanfaat bagi populasi yang heterogen terutama yang berkaitan dengan seniman, karya seni dan pecinta seni.

The pattern of Church worship has undergone many developments from time to time, even from the Old Testament. In the Pentecostal and Charismatic churches, this development seems very sharp, especially in the Praise and Worship section, which on the one hand tries to accommodate the tastes of young people who follow technological developments such as the use of sound systems, lighting, music, and dance. This resulted in an uproarious form of worship, where some groups, such as older church members, felt something foreign, even far from being "spiritual". One of the contemporary worship instruments is the dance (tambourine player), which is still controversial among the people; there are those who can accept and there are those who do not agree that it exists. Meanwhile, dance forms continue to develop forms and expressions, as well as the use of various properties. This paper aims to provide a response in the midst of many questions: How should dance be in worship, and what is its function and role for God's people. With the observation method, both object, and literature, this study concludes that dance in worship is a way for people to express their love and respect for God so that it becomes a forum for God's fellowship with humans in the Holy Spirit, which can restore life. AbstrakPola ibadah gerejawi telah mengalami banyak perkembangan dari masa ke masa, bahkan dari masa Perjanjian Lama. Di lingkungan gereja-gereja Pentakostal dan Kharismatik, perkembangan tersebut nampak begitu tajam, khususya pada bagian Praise and Worship, yang di satu sisi mencoba mengakomo-dir selera anak muda yang mengikuti perkembangan teknologi seperti penggunaan sound system, lighting, musik, dan tarian. Hal ini menghasilkan bentuk ibadah yang gegap gempita, di mana sebagian kelompok, seperti anggota jemaat yang berusia tua merasakan hal yang asing, bahkan jauh dari kesan “rohani”. Salah satu instrumen ibadah kekinian tersebut adalah tarian (pemain rebana), yang hingga kini masih menyisakan kontroversi di antara umat; ada yang bisa menerima dan ada yang kurang menyetujui itu ada. Sementara, bentuk tarian pun terus mengalami perkembangan bentuk dan ekspresi, serta penggunaan berbagai macam properti. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk memberi tanggapan di tengah maraknya pertanyaan: Bagaimana seharusnya tarian dalam ibadah, dan apakah fungsi dan peranannya bagi umat Tuhan. Dengan metode pengamatan, baik secara objek maupun literatur, maka kajian ini sampai pada kesimpulan bahwa tarian dalam ibadah merupakan cara umat untuk mengekspresikan rasa cinta dan hormatnya kepada Allah, sehingga hal tersebut menjadi wadah persekutuan Allah dengan manusia di dalam Roh Kudus, yang dapat memulihkan hidup.

Kosakata bahasa Indonesia yang telah ada seringkali disembunyikan dan diganti dengan kata serapan baru yang dianggap akan memberikan nuansa yang lebih mutakhir, masa kini, atau modern. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis proses penyerapan kosakata serapan yang terdapat dalam media massa. Selanjutnya, hasil analisis tersebut dimanfaatkan untuk menyusun bahan ajar pembelajaran kosakata di sekolah. Metode peneltian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis konten/isi. Sumber data penelitian ini berupa dokumen atau arsip koran Kompas yang terbit dalam rentang bulan Desember 2020-Mei 2021. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah analisis dokumen. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut. (1) Ditemukan tiga macam proses penyerapan kosata serapan yang terdapat dalam koran Kompas edisi Desember 2020-Mei 2021, yaitu adopsi, adaptasi, dan pungutan. (2) Proses penyerapan kosakata paling banyak ditemukan pada aspek adaptasi, yaitu proses diserapnya bahasa asing akibat pemakai bahasa mengambil kata dari bahasa asing, maknanya sama, tetapi ejaan atau cara penulisannya berbeda dan disesuaikan dengan aturan bahasa Indonesia. (3) Dalam bahan ajar yang dikembangkan disajikan kata yang terdesak dan kosakata yang perlu dilatihkan agar kata yang terdesak tersebut lebih sering digunakan oleh kalangan penutur bahasa Indonesia. (4) Guru dan siswa memberikan respons positif terhadap bahan pembelajaran kosakata. Kata Kunci: kata serapan; pembelajaran kosakata ABSTRACTIndonesian is now increasingly absorbing foreign vocabulary. The existing Indonesian vocabulary is often hidden and replaced with new loanwords which are considered to give a more up-to-date, contemporary, or modern feel. This study aims to analyze the absorption process in the absorption vocabulary contained in the mass media. Furthermore, the results of the analysis are used to compile teaching materials for vocabulary learning in the school. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with a content analysis approach. The source of this research data is in the form of documents or archives of the Kompas newspaper published in the range of December 2020-May 2021. The data collection technique used is document analysis. The results of this study are as follows. (1) There are three kinds of absorption process of absorption vocabulary contained in the December 2020-May 2021 edition of the Kompas newspaper, namely adoption, adaptation, and levies.. (2) The process of absorption of vocabulary is mostly found in the aspect of adaptation; the process of absorbing foreign languages due to language users taking words from foreign languages; the meaning is the same, but the spelling or way of writing is different; and adapted to the rules of the Indonesian language. (3) In the developed teaching materials, the word urgency is presented and vocabulary that needs to be trained so that these urgent words are used more often by Indonesian speakers. <p class="ListParagraph1"><em>Khuntsa is a condition when an individual has two sexes and cannot be identified whether he is a woman and a man. Khuntsa can be divided into two types, 1) Khuntsa Musykil, which is a double genital condition where the determination of sex is very difficult, 2) Khuntsa Gahiru Musykil, a condition of multiple genitalia that can still be easily identified by its genitals. The new Jurisprudence still uses the old notion of khuntsa. Even so, khuntsa in the modern world is considered a possible sexual anomaly and can occur in some people. This study uses the literature research method or by using a theological normative approach that explains the main issues in the view of Islamic and positive law, and the divine side. Khuntsa also gave rise to psychological theories which show that this condition can trigger psychological problems which can affect physical and behavioral. The world of modern medicine categorizes khuntsa as genital anomalies that can be identified and can be treated. The recommended treatment is the same procedure as for sex changes. Although contrary to classical fiqh, in contemporary fiqh it can occur with consideration. One of the considerations given is the fiqh rule which is </em><em>الضرر يزال</em><em> which is also a strong proposition to prove the importance of establishing status for khuntsa.</em></p><p class="ListParagraph1"><em>Khuntsa adalah suatu keadaan ketika seorang individu memiliki dua kelamin dan tidak dapat diidentifikasikan apakah dia perempuan dan laki-laki. This study aims to apply self-congruity theory to examine the relationship between self-congruity of tourists and their perceived image of a gambling destination. This study employs the Euclidean distance model and extends Malhotra's pars of adjectives with five new items about gambling motives. A face-to-face questionnaire survey was used, and a total of 152 samples were collected from tourists in Macau. The results show that the actual self-image of tourists is more related to their perception of Macau image. For actual congruence, tourists exhibit a greater tendency to match the informal, liberal, and emotional image of Macau. For ideal congruence, they have a tendency to match the contemporary, organized, and pleasant image of Macau. This study makes up for the deficiency of self-congruity theory in tourism research. This study helps tourism departments to develop appropriate strategies to promote gambling tourism and disseminate relevant information that can bring gambling destinations closer to tourists.
