Abstract:
O objetivo deste artigo é analisar a salvação de mulheres e homens por meio do manuscrito iluminado Visions do Chevalier Tondal. A Visio Tnugdali, confeccionada no século XII teve uma grande circulação em todo o Ocidente dos séculos XII ao XVI. O manuscrito iluminado da obra, encomendado pela duquesa Margaret de York, visando a salvação de seu esposo Carlos, o Temerário, possui várias especificidades. Uma delas é a presença de mulheres que se parecem com a encomendadora desde a primeira imagem do manuscrito, que possui 20 iluminuras. Destaca-se ainda o fato de que as mulheres se encontram ao lado dos homens nos espaços Paradisíacos da obra. [1] Este artigo inédito faz parte das reflexões que se iniciaram no Estágio Pós-Doutoral, realizado na École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), junto ao GAHOM (Groupe d’Anthropologie Historique de l’Occident Médiéval), sob a supervisão do Prof. Dr. Jean-Claude Schmitt. O contato com o supervisor e as discussões no grupo nos auxiliaram a aprofundar as reflexões sobre a obra Visions du Chevalier Tondal e sua relação com as imagens. Atualmente a investigação, intitulada “Educação, Salvação e Religiosidade: a Visio Tnugdali e Seu Papel na Tradição das Narrativas Visionárias Medievais (séculos XIV-XVI)”, possui financiamento do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq), por meio de Bolsa de Produtividade em Pesquisa (PQ2). Abstract:
We examined barriers to and facilitators of sports participation in people with visual impairments. Participants registered at Royal Visio, Bartiméus, and the Eye Association were invited to complete a questionnaire (telephone or online). Six hundred forty-eight of the invited participants (13%) completed the questionnaire, and 63% of the respondents reported sports participation. Walking (43%), fitness (34%), and cycling (34%) were frequently mentioned sports. Costs, lack of peers/buddies, and visual impairment were negatively associated with sports participation, whereas higher education and computer (software) use were positively associated. The most important personal barrier was visual impairment; transport was the most important environmental barrier. Active participants also mentioned dependence on others as a personal barrier. The most important personal facilitators were health, fun, and social contacts; support from family was the most important environmental facilitator. To improve sports participation in people with visual impairments, the emphasis in a sports program should be on the positive aspects of sports, such as fun, health, and social contacts.

Abstract:
O presente artigo visa analisar as tramas e tensões entre o surgimento da psicanálise de Freud em contato com a filosofia de Schopenhauer. Com a publicação dos escritos psicanalíticos de Freud em sua fase metapsicológica, o psiquismo começou a ser trabalhado por ele sob uma nova perspectiva, rompendo assim com a psicologia clássica de sua época. Por sua vez, e comparativamente, o sistema metafísico adotado por Schopenhauer, visava responder as teorizações sobre um princípio básico que rege o universo, independente de uma utilização necessariamente prática. Embora a psicanálise e a filosofia tenham diferentes objetivos, ainda não se conhece com profundidade a contribuição da filosofia na construção da teoria psicanalítica desenvolvida por Freud, principalmente, no que tange aos encontros e desencontros que o prefixo meta tem na metafísica preconizada por Schopenhauer e na metapsicologia de Freud.

Il cinema rappresenta una delle forme narrative più coinvolgenti, soprattutto per lo studente formatosi in costante contatto con una cultura prevalentemente visiva. Sfruttare l’esperienza e le capacità dello studente relative alla fruizione di messaggi audiovisivi per fare leva sulla motivazione è un passaggio decisivo nella predisposizione e nell’applicazione di percorsi didattici nell’ambito dell’educazione letteraria. Il presente articolo si propone pertanto di illustrare la rilevanza, i motivi e l’utilità dell’utilizzo del cinema nell’insegnamento della letteratura, proponendo percorsi e metodi alternativi rispetto alla didattica tradizionale, che prevedono l’accostamento di testi letterari e filmici afferenti al panorama culturale italiano ed esplorano le rappresentazioni e gli immaginari che ne scaturiscono, incoraggiando l’avvicinamento a testi e mezzi espressivi in forme diverse, sia come oggetto di studio sia come opere di piacevole lettura e visione.Le proposte didattiche formulate sono incentrate sulla scoperta congiunta dei tratti formali ed estetici di opere letterarie e cinematografiche con l’intento di individuare ed evidenziare elementi comuni, variazioni e scambi. A una visione passiva del testo filmico si sostituisce una fruizione attiva ed è in questa prospettiva che si delinea la finalità primaria dello studio di testi letterari e cinematografici: accrescere la consapevolezza critica e la capacità di decodificazione linguistica nonché il livello del gusto estetico, affinché lo studente, lettore ma anche spettatore, sia capace di scelte libere e autonome nell’universo dei messaggi audiovisivi in cui si trova immerso nella società contemporanea.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo relatar e discutir acerca de experiências relacionadas ao projeto de extensão “ELAS na UTFPR-CP”, uma iniciativa de docentes e estudantes da Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná, Câmpus Cornélio Procópio, realizada de outubro de 2017 a setembro de 2018, que visava colocar estudantes de escolas públicas de Cornélio Procópio em contato com temas, profissionais e estudantes da área de ciências exatas, tecnologia e engenharia, com intuito de promover o debate sobre a sub-representatividade feminina nestas áreas, além da compreensão de que mulheres podem ingressar em diferentes carreiras e empoderamento por meio da representatividade feminina e debates sobre gênero. O desenvolvimento do projeto propiciou vivências e enfrentamentos os quais evidenciaram o quão é urgente a discussão acerca da reprodução e projeção de estereótipos e expectativas de gênero no âmbito escolar.

Abstract:
Este artigo busca analisar a presença do messianismo judaico no discurso sebastianista do Padre jesuíta Antônio Viera (1608-1697) em seu contexto político e religioso. Para isso, partirei do exame do contato entre Vieira e os judeus expulsos da Espanha e de Portugal no final do século XV, na região de Flandres, nos Países Baixos. Tratarei também da relação de proximidade entre Vieira e o rabino Menasseh Ben Israel (1604-1657), em uma de suas viagens diplomáticas em favor da enfraquecida coroa portuguesa. O discurso do jesuíta se constrói em rigoroso processo que envolve os aspectos políticos de Portugal, assim como uma religiosidade na qual estavam envolvidos estes mesmos aspectos. Havendo passado longo tempo junto aos judeus, o jesuíta não deixou de levantar outras questões como o retorno destes às terras portuguesas, o que Viera via como uma oportunidade para auxiliar economicamente o Reino, como também visava à reunião das tribos perdidas de Israel em território português. <p><span>Neste artigo irei apresentar e analisar duas circunstâncias diferentes da “experiência etnográfica” que obtive ao realizar trabalho de campo no Instituto Médico-Legal do Rio de Janeiro (IML). A “primeira impressão” ao estar em contato com o campo e ver corpos mortos; e a “experiência revela- dora”, que ocorreu quando a pesquisa já estava em andamento, e me demonstrou como o cheiro é um elemento constitutivo das relações dos que circulam cotidianamente entres os corredores e salas do IML. Para tanto, acionando a percepção de dois sentidos humanos — a visão e o olfato —, analiso como no contexto pesquisado estes são ferramentas daqueles cuja principal atividade é a manipulação de corpos mortos (médicos legistas, papiloscopistas legistas e técnicos de necrópsia). Discuto ainda como, ao realizar trabalho de campo entre mortos, identifiquei as percepções visuais e olfativas como ferramentas metodológicas centrais para a reflexão da “experiên- cia etnográfica.” </span></p>

O tabaco esteve entre as commodities a ter rápida difusão global na Era Moderna, a partir das navegações e interações dos europeus com os povos dos demais continentes conhecidos então. Nativo da América, onde era consumido pelos povos originários de várias partes do continente, cerca de um século depois da chegada de Colombo ao Novo Mundo, o tabaco já era conhecido em várias partes da Europa, África, Oriente Médio e Leste Asiático. Neste périplo global, a erva passou de elemento ritualístico a commodity: vendido, trocado, taxado e produzido nas quatro partes do mundo, ganhou a preferência de homens e, em menor medida, mulheres, de todas as camadas sociais. Indivíduos de diversas idades mascavam, aspiravam e/ou fumavam, principalmente, o tabaco das Américas, nas suas diversas variedades. Assim, essa commodity, que conquistava as pessoas pelo paladar, olfato, tato e visão, tornou-se intensamente negociada e difundida nas sociedades que com ela tiveram contato. Proponho-me a abordar essa difusão, destacando seus diversos condicionantes, desde a produção ao consumo do tabaco.

Abstract:
A finalidade desse trabalho é relatar a aplicação da prática pedagógica relacionada ao conteúdo de solos, como abordagem de Educação Ambiental em Geografia no Ensino Fundamental. As práticas foram realizadas com alunos do 9º ano do Colégio Estadual São Sebastião, em Curitiba, Paraná. Foi elaborado um projeto nomeado Solos do Meu Bairro que visava a integração do tema Solo com a realidade e cotidiano dos alunos. O processo de ensino aprendizagem obteve três momentos: 1. aulas destinadas à teoria contando também com atividade e experimento, abordando os conteúdos básicos de solos adequados às turmas e sua faixa etária; 2. aula de campo no entorno do colégio com a finalidade de visualização na prática dos conceitos teóricos utilizando caderneta de campo como forma de avaliação da atividade extraclasse; 3. elaboração de maquetes com o tema uso e ocupação do solo em um bairro. Como resultado, os alunos apresentaram os produtos finais à comunidade escolar, na feira de ciências, por meio da aplicação do projeto como forma de Educação Ambiental.

O artigo deseja investigar os primeiros contatos de Emmanuel Levinas com a fenomenologia e sua interpretação de Husserl presente na tese doutoral que defendeu em 1930, em que se destacam sua leitura ontológica do projeto husserliano e, em particular, a compreensão da intencionalidade – essência da subjetividade – como transcendência. Chega-se à conclusão de que, ainda que não no aspecto visado por Husserl, o dinamismo primeiro da intencionalidade – saída de si como próprio elemento constitutivo originário – permanece como ponto forte do pensamento de Levinas e permite afirmar uma posteridade levinasiana de Husserl.Abstract: This paper intends to investigate the very first contacts of Emmanuel Levinas with phenomenology as well as his own interpretation of Husserl’s thought, developed in his doctoral thesis of 1930. There, Levinas presented na ontological reading of the Husserlian project and, above all, an understanding of intentionality – the essence of subjectivity – as transcendence. Although differently from Husserl’s peculiar point of view, Levinas postulates that going- -out-of-oneself is the primary momentum of intentionality, allowing to state that there is a Husserlian legacy in Levinas.

Per l’opera di Carlo Bernari sono state coniate alcune definizioni che con felici metafore rappresentano l’attività dell’autore di Tre operai. Tra quelle che meglio convengono al suo primo romanzo, “incunabolo del neorealismo” è la più usata; meno comune, ma decisamente più inerente alla realtà dei fatti, è quella che fa riferimento alla costante, mai placata attività correttoria esercitata dall’autore fin dalle sue prime prove narrative. Per Tre operai in particolare, seguirne la genesi vuol dire entrare nella cosiddetta “officina dell’autore”, misurarne la lucidità nel togliere, nel modificare, nell’aggiungere, puntando alla massima chiarezza di una diagnosi storica e alla stretta osmosi fra verità documentale e “finzione” letteraria. Il saggio intende evidenziare le due componenti della scrittura di Bernari: l’elaborazione della realtà come rappresentazione del mondo e lo sperimentalismo stilistico ante litteram che ha portato lo scrittore non solo ad anticipare le tendenze stilistiche del secondo Novecento, a partire ovviamente dal neorealismo fino a toccare sperimentazioni neoavanguardiste, ma soprattutto, analizzando il presente, a presentire e diagnosticare crisi socio-ideologiche ancora aurorali. Nel primo caso, per valutare i meccanismi e la praxis dello scrittore, viene sviluppata l’analisi del passaggio e della trasformazione del proto-romanzo Gli stracci (1928–1930) nella versione finale di Tre operai pubblicata nel 1934, che anticipa di un decennio forme e contenuti neorealisti promossi da istanze ed esperienze del giovane scrittore nell’ambito di certe letture impegnate, in quello delle arti visive, il cinema in particolare, o a contatto, diretto o mediato, con i grandi movimenti culturali del primo Novecento. Ma se il romanzo d’esordio getta le basi di un genere che maturerà dieci anni dopo—il neorealismo—si vuole qui dimostrare il permanere nella copiosa e apparentemente versicolore produzione del sessantennio successivo di una coerenza di metodo, sottesa e perciò non sempre còlta dalla critica, e di una costante sollecitazione a percorrere nuove strade formali e ad affrontare problematiche diverse, sempre rispettando con rigore i diversi aspetti delle realtà in atto.

Abstract:
Este artigo tem como objetivo discutir as relações entre tecnologia e educação considerando o papel dos objetos escolares presentes na cultura material escolar. As reflexões se apoiam em práticas introduzidas com a Modernidade, contando com a perspectiva dos estudos em Ciência, Tecnologia e Sociedade (CTS). O estudo foi realizado em uma Escola da Rede Pública Municipal de Ensino do município de Piraquara/PR - Região Metropolitana de Curitiba (RMC), utilizando a técnica da entrevista centrada na pessoa da diretora da instituição. As análises apontam para uma ressignificação de alguns objetos no contexto educativo, especialmente os eletrônicos, estando estes dentre os principais objetos inutilizados em poucas décadas. A substituição destes artefatos tecnológicos ocorre por obsolescência de certas funções, e isto gera resíduos de descarte complexo. O artigo baseia-se em pesquisa realizada com estudantes provenientes do arquipélago de Cabo Verde, localizado na costa Ocidental da África, que se instalaram no Rio de Janeiro com o objetivo de obter uma formação de nível superior. A investigação, que resultou em uma dissertação de mestrado, busca compreender os processos de (re)construção identitária vividos por esses jovens, muitos dos quais identificados como negros e africanos pelos brasileiros. Com vistas a contextualizar o impacto desse olhar externo sobre esses estudantes, o artigo apresenta a forma como, ao longo da história, a elite intelectual do arquipélago construiu um discurso que atribui à mestiçagem a especificidade da identidade nacional. Ainda que influenciado pelas idéias de Gilberto Freyre, tal discurso, no entanto, visava a um distanciamento da herança negra estigmatizada, diferentemente da proposta de Freyre de valorização dos não-brancos. Levando em conta esse histórico, a investigação aponta como o contato com a sociedade brasileira atual, possibilitado pela experiência de estudo, favoreceu a construção de um olhar mais crítico em relação a esse discurso, ao mesmo tempo que houve uma ênfase na valorização de uma identidade afro-referenciada. Tal processo, entre outros motivos, aparentemente encontra relação com a implementação de políticas de identidade no Rio de Janeiro, estado que abriga a primeira universidade do país a adotar reserva de vagas para negros.

Purpose: Cancer-related Emergency Department Visits (EDV) are costly and may indicate poor care. Most studies of cancer-related EDV identify patients using inclusive diagnostic codes but lack precision since they don’t distinguish active cancer. We compared estimates of oncology-related EDV made by diagnostic code methods to a more specific method followed by chart review. We also studied characteristics of validated EDV. Methods: EDV from cancer patients at a single acute care hospital were measured using any inclusive oncology codes and was compared to EDV made by patients who were active attendees at cancer clinics. We then reviewed the records of a 50% random sample of the ‘active’ patients to estimate how many were related to cancer or cancer treatment. Results: Over 5 months, 790 oncology-EDV were identified by coding, but only 554 (70%) were made by ‘active’ patients. After review, 29% of active patient EDV was determined not to be related to an oncology problem or treatment. 48% of EDV occurred during daytime clinic hours. 79% were preceded by one or more contacts with the oncology care team within a week. There was variability in the number of EDV by patients of different oncologists. Conclusion: The impact of cancer in overall EDV counts is over-estimated by coding because coding cannot distinguish between active and inactive cancer nor discriminate between symptoms likely due to unlikely due to cancer or cancer treatments. Cancer programs should study the experiences of their own patients to design effective programs to reduce potentially avoidable utilization.

X-ray computed tomography (XCT) is regularly employed in geomechanics to non-destructively measure the solid and pore fractions of soil and rock from reconstructed 3D images. With the increasing availability of high-resolution XCT imaging systems, researchers now seek to measure microfabric parameters such as the number and area of interparticle contacts, which can then be used to inform soil behaviour modelling techniques. However, recent research has evidenced that conventional image processing methods consistently overestimate the number and area of interparticle contacts, mainly due to acquisition-driven image artefacts. The present study seeks to address this issue by systematically assessing the role of XCT acquisition parameters in the accurate detection of interparticle contacts. To this end, synchrotron XCT has been applied to a hexagonal close-packed arrangement of glass pellets with and without a prescribed separation between lattice layers. Different values for the number of projections, exposure time, and rotation range have been evaluated. Conventional global grey value thresholding and novel U-Net segmentation methods have been assessed, followed by local refinements at the presumptive contacts, as per recently proposed contact detection routines. The effect of the different acquisition set-ups and segmentation techniques on contact detection performance is presented and discussed, and optimised workflows are proposed.

We present a novel six-degree-of-freedom haptic rendering algorithm using incremental and localized contact computations. It uses an incremental approach for contact and force computations and takes advantage of spatial and temporal coherence between successive frames. As part of a preprocess, we decompose the surface of each polyhedron into convex pieces and construct bounding volume hierarchies to perform fast proximity queries. Once the objects have intersected, we compute the penetration depth (PD) in the neighborhood of the contact between each pair of decomposed convex pieces using a new incremental algorithm. Moreover, we cluster different contacts based on their spatial proximity to speed up the force computation. We have implemented this algorithm and applied it to complex contact scenarios consisting of multiple contacts. We demonstrate its effectiveness on electronic prototyping of complex mechanical structures and virtual exploration of a digestive system.

A classical measurement by image analysis is directly based on this definition. It can be applied in the theoretical case of a global analysis but some problems occur for practical applications. We propose here a new measurement method based on the contribution to the Euler-Poincaré characteristic. A single measurement is performed both on the initial structure (particles linked by contacts) and on the segmented structure (isolated particles). The proposed method is robust w.r.t. the shape of the particles and their contacts.

Contact sounds can provide important perceptual cues in virtual environments. We investigated the relation between material perception and variables that govern the synthesis of contact sounds. A shape-invariant, auditory-decay parameter was a powerful determinant of the perceived material of an object. Subjects judged the similarity of synthesized sounds with respect to material (Experiment 1 and 2) or length (Experiment 3). The sounds corresponded to modal frequencies of clamped bars struck at an intermediate point, and they varied in fundamental frequency and frequency-dependent rate of decay. The latter parameter has been proposed as reflecting a shape-invariant material property: damping. Differences between sounds in both decay and frequency affected similarity judgments (magnitude of similarity and judgment duration), with decay playing a substantially larger role. Experiment 2, which varied the initial sound amplitude, showed that decay rate—rather than total energy or sound duration—was the critical factor in determining similarity. Experiment 3 demonstrated that similarity judgments in the first two studies were specific to instructions to judge material. Experiment 4, in which subjects assigned the sounds to one of four material categories, showed an influence of frequency and decay, but confirmed the greater importance of decay. Decay parameters associated with each category were estimated and found to correlate with physical measures of damping. The results support the use of a simplified model of material in virtual auditory environments.
