Abstract:

Abstract:

An online monitoring method for the main drive system of rolling mill is studied in this paper. The monitoring objects are drive shaft torque, rolling force, and other related process signals of the rough rolling mill. A non-contact torque measurement method based on induction power supply was adopted, and this kind of power supply for sensors and transmitters can provide a long-term stable power supply, and make the system work continuously. The overall monitoring system includes signal acquisition module, network communication module, database server module, status monitoring and alarm module, signal processing and analysis module, and client server module. The realization of the monitoring system can help to prevent catastrophic damage and reduce additional costs due to unexpected downtime.

Abstract:

This paper presents the definition of a Reference Application Architecture for the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) domain. The definition of the Reference Application Architecture is done by extracting best practices from five CRM commercial solutions: SugarCRM, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Sage CRM, Oracle Siebel CRM and Salesforce CRM. The CRM Reference Architecture was developed considering the shared functionalities and information entities among these commercial solutions. In the Reference Architecture the authors identify six modules in the CRM system and five systems, which interact with the CRM system. The six CRM modules are: Account module, Sales module, Marketing module, Service module, Scheduler Module and Administration module. The five interacting systems are: Portal, Contact Center, Document and Knowledge Base Management system, Workflow system and Reporting and Analytics system. Then the authors apply the defined architecture in a case study from the Portuguese Public Administration, the Citizen Spaces provided by the Agency for the Administrative Modernization. The authors compare the current state of the Citizen Spaces with a possible architecture reached through the Reference Architecture, and assess the benefits and pitfalls of the purposed architecture.

Abstract:

Temperature distribution is an important process parameter of steel plates during electromagnetic induction heating treatment. This study uses the digital image correlation method to develop an effective non-contact temperature measurement that allows obtaining valuable information about the temperature value of a high temperature steel plate specimen and analyzing its temperature distribution. A principle of thermal radiation temperature measurement based on the color chagre couled device (CCD) technology was introduced. The image processing system encapsulates the image update module, form mode module, image event module and temperature analysis module. The error analysis and temperature calibration were carried out to make sure the error deviation of the measurement system was within a small range. The temperature distribution of B1500HS at high temperature was analyzed by the designed measurement system which was in good agreement with the result from Raynger 3i Plus temperature gun, indicating that the measurement system based on image processing basically meets the requirements of temperature distribution measurement of a high temperature steel plate, and provides an important reference for a high temperature steel plate in non-contact temperature distribution measurement.

Abstract:

This paper presents a novel method based on optomechatronics for highly accurately detecting the planeness of computer hard-disk surfaces. This article introduces the detailed design of the system, which includes four modules: the optic-electric detection module, the 2-dimensional mechanic platform, the motion control module and the human-machine interaction module. Results show that the system has merits like non-contact, high accuracy, flexible and reliable control and high efficiency. The system has been applied successfully at a foreign-funded enterprise in Singapore.

Abstract:

Understanding the root system architecture of plants as they develop is critical for increasing crop yields through plant phenotyping, and ultra-wideband imaging systems have shown potential as a portable, low-cost solution to non-destructive imaging root system architectures. This paper presents the design, implementation, and analysis of an ultra-wideband imaging system for use in imaging potted plant root system architectures. The proposed system is separated into three main subsystems: a Data Acquisition module, a Data Processing module, and an Image Processing and Analysis module. The Data Acquisition module consists of simulated and experimental implementations of a non-contact synthetic aperture radar system to measure ultra-wideband signal reflections from concealed scattering objects in a pot containing soil. The Data Processing module is responsible for interpreting the measured ultra-wideband signals and producing an image using a delay-and-sum beamforming algorithm. The Image Processing and Analysis module is responsible for improving image quality and measuring root depth and average root diameter in an unsupervised manner. The Image Processing and Analysis module uses a modified top-hat transformation alongside quantization methods based on energy distributions in the image to isolate the surface of the imaged root. Altogether, the proposed subsystems are capable of imaging and measuring concealed taproot system architectures with controlled soil conditions; however, the performance of the system is highly dependent on knowledge of the soil conditions. Smaller roots in difficult imaging conditions require future work into understanding and compensating for unwanted noise. Ultimately, this paper sought to provide insight into improving imaging quality of ultra-wideband (UWB) imaging systems for plant root imaging for other works to be followed.

The article discusses a mathematical model of a hybrid system that combines photovoltaic and thermoelectric methods for converting concentrated solar energy into electrical energy. The specified mathematical model makes it possible to determine the temperatures of the photovoltaic module, as well as the temperature of the electrodes of the thermoelectric generator module. Optimal operating conditions have been determined for the hybrid system, taking into account the thermal contact resistance at the hot and cold sides of the thermoelectric generator. The simulation proceeded from the fact that only part of the absorbed solar radiation is converted into electricity due to the photoelectric effect, some part is lost due to radiation and convection from the upper surface of the photovoltaic module into the environment, and the rest is transferred to a thermoelectric generator connected to the lower part. photovoltaic module. A thermoelectric generator converts some of the thermal energy it receives from the photovoltaic module into electricity through the Seebeck effect, but most of it goes to the cooling system. The conversion of heat into electrical energy was based on the well-known Seebeck and Peltier effects. Along with these effects, such effects were taken into account as the formation of Joule heat due to the presence of electric current in the thermoelectric generator, Fourier thermal conductivity, as a consequence of the appearance of a temperature gradient in the transitions of a thermoelectric generator and Thomson heat, which arises both due to the presence of a temperature gradient, and electric current. The resulting model of the hybrid system makes it possible to study the effect of changing the temperature difference between the hot and cold electrodes of the thermoelectric generator and the resistance of the external circuit on the performance of the hybrid system. The model also allows the determination of the optimal operating conditions for the hybrid system, taking into account the thermal contact resistance on the hot and cold sides of the thermoelectric generator.

The hardware structure of a liquid level detection system for lead-acid battery was briefly introduced. The system adopts AT89C51 MCU as host module, combined with display storage, extended storage and the watch dog technology. The slave module adopts AT89C2051 MCU, which driver the linear CCD to realize non-contact measurement in acidic and corrosive conditions. The infrared transmission module uses RS-232 serial-to-infrared technology to realize wireless data delivery. The damage due to sensor corrosion could be avoided in this system. Compared with other similar equipments, this system has the advantages of simple structure, small volume, low cost, high measure precision and convenient maintenance.

Abstract:

In response to the current demand for the remote monitoring of older people living alone, a non-contact human vital signs monitoring system based on millimeter wave radar has gradually become the object of research. This paper mainly carried out research regarding the detection method to obtain human breathing and heartbeat signals using a frequency modulated continuous wave system. We completed a portable millimeter-wave radar module for wireless communication. The radar module was a small size and had a WIFI communication interface, so we only needed to provide a power cord for the radar module. The breathing and heartbeat signals were detected and separated by FIR digital filter and the wavelet transform method. By building a cloud computing framework, we realized remote and senseless monitoring of the vital signs for older people living alone. Experiments were also carried out to compare the performance difference between the system and the common contact detection system. The experimental results showed that the life parameter detection system based on the millimeter wave sensor has strong real-time performance and accuracy.

Abstract:

In the analysis and design of functional clothing systems, it is helpful to quantify the effects of a system on a wearer's physical performance capabilities. Toward this end, a clothing modeling framework for quantifying the mechanical interactions between a given clothing system design and a specific wearer performing defined physical tasks is proposed. The modeling framework consists of three interacting modules: (1) a macroscale fabric mechanics/dynamics model; (2) a collision detection and contact correction module; and (3) a human motion module. In the proposed framework, the macroscopic fabric model is based on a rigorous large deformation continuum-degenerated shell theory representation. Material models that capture the stress-strain behavior of different clothing fabrics are used in the continuum shell framework. The collision and contact module enforces the impenetrability constraint between the fabric and human body and computes the associated contact forces between the two. The human body is represented in the current framework as an assemblage of overlapping ellipsoids that undergo rigid body motions consistent with human motions while performing actions such as walking, running, or jumping. The transient rigid body motions of each ellipsoidal body segment in time are determined using motion capture technology. The integrated modeling framework is then exercised to quantify the resistance that the clothing exerts on the wearer during the specific activities under consideration. Current results from the framework are presented and its intended applications are discussed along with some of the key challenges remaining in clothing system modeling.

This paper designs a simple non-contact temperature measurement and identity recognition device based on multiple embedded control systems and feature recognition algorithms. The device can achieve multiple functions such as non-contact temperature measurement, face recognition, mask recognition, and smart alarm. The system consists of three parts: main control, interactive system and detection system: the main control selects STM32F407VGT6 to process the data returned by multiple sensors and realize the mutual communication of each system; the interactive system uses the HMI serial touch screen to realize the visualization of data and human Machine operation function; the detection system is equipped with MLX90614 temperature detection module and OpenMV4 machine vision module to realize functions such as temperature detection, face recognition and mask recognition[1]. In addition, in order to ensure the accuracy and stability of the detection results, this article specifically designs temperature data filtering and compensation algorithms, LBP feature detection algorithms and other intelligent algorithms. Through experiments, the accuracy of this device to detect 28°C-48°C is within 0.8°C, and the accuracy of identifying faces and masks is above 98%.

The multidisciplinary design optimization(MDO) framework for aeroengine turbine based on life and reliability which covers the total process is developed. The framework consists of three parts: design module of parts, subsystem and system. The parametric model and optimization of turbine components such as rotor, stator, disk, casing and axle, can be created in parts design module. The interaction in subsystems, such as rotor-stator interaction, blade-casing gap and tenon-mortise contact problem can be solved in subsystem design module. The system design module can give out the global optimal solution of the whole turbine. The MDO for an aeroengine turbine using this framework has been taken, the results show that the framework is available.

Abstract The two-mass resonant vibro-impact module is presented as the rod system with cylindrical intermediate supports. The corresponding design diagram is constructed. Based on the finite element method, the frequency of free oscillations is defined for the corresponding location of the intermediate supports. A stress-strain state of the elastic element is considered. The stiffness of the intermediate supports is defined by solving the contact problem between the cylindrical rod supports and the flat spring. The dynamics of the vibro-impact rod system with multiple natural frequencies is analyzed taking into account the contact stiffness of the intermediate supports. The determination of contact and equivalent stresses occurring during the operation of the vibro-impact rod system is performed.

According to the developmental trend of modern automobile instrument, this paper puts forward a multifunctional digital instrument based on the embedded Linux system. The digital instrument panel consists of embedded microprocessor and contact screen, and it could not only receive and process all kinds of driving information from peripheral interface and display the results on the LCD, but also has the function of aided parking. This paper proposes an integrated design solution for the digital instrument. The design selects the TI’s TMS320DM355, which includes LCD and contact screen module, CAN bus module, LIN bus module, video-in and audio-out. The digital instrument can receive real-time data, and also process the data and store it in the RAM and display all vehicle operating parameters in the LCD and realizes real time monitoring in backing up. Based on the experiment, it is proved that the designed system reaches the primary design specifications.

Abstract:

As a method for reducing the friction of high-precision system, air bearings have been widely used for various industrial applications. However, their small damping leads to poor in-position stability and therefore systems are susceptible to residual vibration and disturbance. In this study, a linear motion stage which is guided by air bearing for a noncontact eddy current damping module is proposed. The eddy current damping module consists of a Halbach array of permanent magnets and a fixed conductor plate. An eddy current is generated in the conductor in the direction opposing the change in the magnetic field when the magnets move, after which the resistivity in the conductor dissipates the kinetic energy of the moving part; therefore, the module has a damping effect without contact and system is shown good in-position stability. In order to specify the damping effect, the motion of the moving part was experimentally analyzed. The step response confirmed that the eddy current damping module can improve the performance of the positioning system: the settling time decreased by 36.8% and the resolution improved by 59.4%. These improvements verify that eddy current damping is a suitable method for application in precision industries.

Recent high-end server design trends have continued to challenge electronic packaging engineers to design and integrate larger form factor land grid array (LGA) attached modules within their assemblies. These trends have included the application of larger, denser, organic packaged modules whose electrical performance and postencapsulation physical characteristics have been enabled by both the continued development of hybrid LGA connectors as well as new module actuation hardware designs. In this paper, we'll discuss these recent trends, including the specific technical attributes and challenges that need to be addressed to ensure a repeatable and reliable assembly design is developed. Initially, overviews of the latest connector and module design trends, including styles and physical sizes and their implications to the module's bottom surface metallurgy (BSM) flatness requirements, etc. are provided. Pursuant to this, recent system integration trending is reviewed; including both the module quantity per system assembly as well as module to module physical placements and how each of these impact printed wiring board (PWB) design (i.e., layer count, LGA site flatness, etc.) as well as the PWB assembly's solder processing characteristics (i.e., LGA pre- and post-solder attach contact co-planarity, etc.). Completing the application portion, is a description of some recent LGA actuation hardware and module external cooling apparatus designs (e.g., air-cooled heats sinks and water-cooling cold-plates and thermal interface materials (TIMs), etc.). From the analysis methodology perspective, both the means of including each of the integrated assembly's key attributes (e.g., module mechanical construction and as encapsulated flatness, LGA contact compliance and stiffness as well as soldered contact coplanarity, TIM stiffness, actuation hardware, heat sink and cold-plate mechanical construction, etc.) and the resulting estimation of the predicted module internal TIM and hybrid-LGA's Pb-free soldered interface strains, actuation hardware stresses and LGA contact load variation are provided. Increasing water demand coupled with projected climate change puts the Southwestern United States at the highest risk of water sustainability by 2050. Membrane distillation offers a unique opportunity to utilize the substantial, but largely untapped geothermal brackish groundwater for desalination to lessen the stress. Two types of hydrophobic, microporous hollow fiber membranes (HFMs), including polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), were evaluated for their effectiveness in direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD). Water flux and salt rejection were measured as a function of module packing density and length in lab-scale systems. The PVDF HFMs generally exhibited higher water flux than the PTFE HFMs possibly due to thinner membrane wall and higher porosity. As the packing density or module length increased, water flux declined. The water production rate per module, however, increased due to the larger membrane surface area. A pilot-scale DCMD system was deployed to the 2nd largest geothermally-heated greenhouse in the United States for field testing over a duration of about 22 days. The results demonstrated the robustness of the DCMD system in the face of environmental fluctuation at the facility.

Surface distress in the form of contact fatigue is encountered in cam-roller systems. The contact fatigue appears to be initiated at micrometer-scale subsurface region. High stress is a result of the macro-scale requirement on the cam-roller motion event that produces high contact loads due to inertia of the roller and its follower link. Sliding of the roller and its impact onto the cam surface further compounds the detrimental effect of contact load. While conventionally a Hertz contact stress analysis can be used in ascertaining contact stress and maximum subsurface von Mises stress, it generally underestimates the stress when compared to the micrometer-scale subsurface stresses due to the presence of surface roughness. Contact analyses of cam and roller with rough surfaces are performed to examine the effects of two surface treatments. These involve surface finishing process in which a surface is rendered smooth, and the addition of a coating to the roller surface. Measurements of such cam and roller surfaces are used in micro-contact analysis module of a Surface Distress Analytical Toolkit to examine the effect of surface finish and coating on maximum subsurface stress. It is found that smooth surface provides a 53% reduction in maximum subsurface stress. The analysis also shows that the addition of coating further reduces subsurface stress nearly 7%. The impact of the combined treatment of the surface is an increase in contact fatigue life of the cam-roller system by nearly two orders of magnitude. The above findings are confirmed by laboratory tests using six rollers with various degrees of finishing processes, and with and without addition of coating to the surfaces. Examination of the rollers indicates a general improvement in roller performance due to addition of coating. Most notably, the combination of finishing process and coating was found to provide the best contact fatigue life since the corresponding rollers showed no observable wear even after testing for 2161h, or the same number of cycles accumulated over about 500,000 truck miles.

The heat integration feasibility of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) coupled with the solar-heated direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) module is evaluated in this study. The additional waste heat from the PEMFC increases the DCMD system’s ability to produce fresh water and electricity. In this paper, a non-contact degradation evaluation method for insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) modules is proposed based on eddy current pulsed thermography approach. In non-contact heat excitation procedures, a high-power induction heater is introduced to generate heat excitation in IGBT modules. The thermographs of the whole temperature mapping are recorded non-invasively by an IR camera. As a result, the joint degradation of IGBT modules can be evaluated by the transient thermal response curves derived from the recorded thermographs. Firstly, the non-destructive evaluation principle of the eddy current pulsed thermography (ECPT) system for an IGBT module with a heat sink is introduced. A 3D simulation module is built with physical parameters in ANSYS simulations, and then thermal propagation behavior considering the degradation impact is investigated. An experimental ECPT system is set up to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The experimental results show that the delay time to peak temperature can be extracted and treated as an effective indicative feature of joint degradation.

With the rapid development of solar energy, the photovoltaic (PV) module fault detection plays an important role in knowing how to enhance the reliability of the solar photovoltaic system and knowing the fault type when a system problem occurs. Therefore, this paper proposed the hybrid algorithm of chaos synchronization detection method (CSDM) with convolutional neural network (CNN) for studying PV module fault detection. Four common PV module states were discussed, including the normal PV module, module breakage, module contact defectiveness and module bypass diode failure. First of all, the defects in 16 pieces of 20W monocrystalline silicon PV modules were preprocessed, and there were four pieces of each fault state. When the signal generator delivered high frequency voltage to the PV module, the original signal was measured and captured by the NI PXI-5105 high-speed data acquisition system (DAS) and was calculated by CSDM, to establish the chaos dynamic error map as the image feature of fault diagnosis. Finally, the CNN was employed for diagnosing the fault state of the PV module. The findings show that after entering 400 random fault data (100 data for each fault) into the proposed method for recognition, the recognition accuracy rate of the proposed method was as high as 99.5%, which is better than the traditional ENN algorithm that had a recognition rate of 86.75%. In addition, the advantage of the proposed algorithm is that the mass original measured data can be reduced by CSDM, the subtle changes in the output signals are captured effectively and displayed in images, and the PV module fault state is accurately recognized by CNN.

A 60-cell photovoltaic (PV) module was analyzed by optimizing the interconnection parameters of the solar cells to enhance the efficiency and increase the power of the PV module setup. The cell-to-module (CTM) losses and gains varied substantially during the various simulation iterations. Optimization was performed to inspect and augment the gain and loss parameters for the 60-cell PV module. The power and efficiency of the module were improved by refining several parameters, such as number of busbars, size of the contact pads, interconnected ribbon width, thickness of the core, and distance between the solar cells and strings, to obtain the maximum efficiency of 21.09%; the CTM efficiency achieved was 94.19% for the proposed strategy related to the common interconnection setup of the ribbon-based system. The CTM efficiency was improved by optimizing the geometrical, optical, and electrical parameters precisely, the power enhancement was up to 325.3 W, and a CTM power of 99.1% was achieved from a standard PV module with rectangular ribbon interconnections.

The present paper concerns the synthesis of robot movement control systems in the cases of disturbances of natural position constraints, which are the result of surface susceptibility and inaccuracies in its description. The study contains the synthesis of control laws, in which the knowledge of parameters of the susceptible environment is not required, and which guarantee stability of the system in the case of an inaccurately described contact surface. The novelty of the presented solution is based on introducing an additional module to the control law in directions normal to the interaction surface, which allows for a fluent change of control strategy in the case of occurrence of distortions in the surface. An additional module in the control law is perceived as a virtual viscotic resistance force and resilient environment acting upon the robot. This interpretation facilitates intuitive selection of amplifications and allows for foreseeing the behavior of the system when disturbances occur. Introducing reactions of virtual constraints provides automatic adjustment of the robot interaction force with the susceptible environment, minimizing the impact of geometric inaccuracy of the environment.

Print quality (PQ) is most important in the printing industry. It plays a role in users’ satisfaction with their products. Page quality will be degraded when there are print quality defects on the printed page, which could be caused by the electrophotographic printer (EP) process and associated print mechanism. To identify the print quality issue, customers have to consult a printer user manual or contact customer service to describe the problems. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive system to analyze the printed page automatically and extract the important defect features to determine the type and severity of defects on the scanned page. This system incorporates many of our previous works. The input of this system is the master digital image and the scanned image of the printed page. The comprehensive system includes three modules: the region of interest (ROI) extraction module, the scanned image pre-processing module (image alignment and color calibration procedure), and the print defect analysis module (text fading detection, color fading detection, streak detection, and banding detection). This system analyzes the scanned images based on different ROIs, and each ROI will produce a printer defect feature vector. The final output is the whole feature vector including all the ROI feature vectors of the printed page, and this feature vector will be uploaded to customer service to analyze the printer defect.

Abstract:

Understanding the energy efficiency of direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) is important for the widespread application and practical implementation of the process. This study analyzed the available energy, known as exergy, in a DCMD system using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). A CFD model was developed to investigate the hydrodynamic and thermal conditions in a DCMD module. After the CFD model was verified, it was used to calculate the temperature polarization coefficient (TPC) and exergy destruction magnitudes under various operating conditions. The results revealed that slight decreases and increases in the TPC occurred with distance from the inlet in the module. The TPC was found to increase as the feed temperature was reduced and the feed and permeate flow rates were increased. The exergy destruction phenomenon was more significant under higher feed temperatures and higher flux conditions. Although the most significant exergy destruction in the permeate occurred near the feed inlet, the effect became less influential closer to the feed outlet. An analysis of exergy flows revealed that the efficiency loss in the permeate side corresponded to 32.9–45.3% of total exergy destruction.

Digital sports training based on digital video image processing promises to reduce the reliance on the experience of coaches in the table tennis training process and to achieve a more general physical education base. Based on this approach, this paper describes the specific forms of exercise content, movement characteristics, and skill levels in the table tennis framework and specifies the calculation methods of motion capture and movement characteristics suitable for table tennis. Meanwhile, to further improve the accuracy of the inertial motion capture system in restoring the position posture of the trainees, this paper improves the original inertial motion capture system from two aspects: contact judgment of both feet and correction of the position posture based on the contact position constraint. The simulation results show that the corrected human posture has good action smoothness. This paper first proposes a knowledge-based generic sports-assisted training framework based on generalizing the traditional sports training model. The framework contains four main modules: domain knowledge, trainees, sport evaluation, and controller. The domain knowledge module is a digital representation of the knowledge of the exercise content, improvement instructions, and skill indicators of the sport; the trainee module is the active response of the trainee to the exercise content and improvement instructions; the motion evaluation module uses motion capture technology to obtain the raw motion data of the trainee and further calculates the motion characteristics; the controller module proposes improvement instructions to the trainee or makes him/her practice new content based on the results of the motion evaluation. Using the SolidWorks Simulation module, the engineering review of the reinforced concrete support tension was made using the developed computation algorithm. 3D images of the support model were visualized from operating loads under design conditions and the values of the strain in the support height subject to the exposure to additional factors.

Abstract:

Purpose The authors want to design an adaptive grasping control strategy without setting the expected contact force in advance to maintain grasping stable, so that the proposed control system can deal with unknown object grasping manipulation tasks. Design/methodology/approach The adaptive grasping control strategy is proposed based on bang-bang-like control principle and slippage detection module. The bang-bang-like control method is designed to find and set the expected contact force for the whole control system, and the slippage detection function is achieved by dynamic time warping algorithm. Findings The expected contact force can adaptively adjust in grasping tasks to avoid bad effects on the control system by the differences of prior test results or designers. Slippage detection can be recognized in time with variation of expected contact force manipulation environment in the control system. Based on if the slippage caused by an unexpected disturbance happens, the control system can automatically adjust the expected contact force back to the level of the previous stable state after a given time, and has the ability to identify an unnecessary increasing in the expected contact force. Originality/value Only contact force is used as feedback variable in control system, and the proposed strategy can save hardware components and electronic circuit components for sensing, reducing the cost and design difficulty of conducting real control system and making it easy to realize in engineering application field. The expected contact force can adaptively adjust due to unknown disturbance and slippage for various grasping manipulation tasks.

AbstractIn this paper, we describe the development of a behavior change support system to improve health. The system is designed for people in the age range of 50–65 with an interdisciplinary approach. The basic structure of the presented system consists of two main modules: a monitoring module to collect and analyze data and an intervention module to support behavior changes. Based on the results of a requirements analysis and findings gathered from a conducted literature review and own analyses, the behavior change system addresses the following lifestyle areas: physical activity, nutrition, mental fitness, sleep, and nature contact. We outline how the concept is developed with regards to the results of the requirements analysis and psychological foundations to explain and predict motivation and behavior change processes. We describe how single system components match phases of behavior change models and how they were implemented into an Android application. Finally, we present the results of usability studies where the comprehensibility of the concept and application was tested together with the usability of navigation structure and design. The results show that the target group is able to understand the concept and can navigate through the system easily.

Abstract:

The leakages in water pipeline networks sometimes negatively affect the environment, health, and economy. Therefore, leak detection methods play a crucial role in detecting and localizing leaks. These methods are categorized into internal and external detection methods, each having its advantages and certain limitations. The internal system has its detection based on the field sensors to monitor internal pipeline parameters such as temperature and pressure, thereby inferring a leak. However, the mobility of the sensing module in the pipeline is affected by the model drag coefficient. The low drag coefficient causes the module to quickly lost control in the pipeline leading to false detection. Therefore, this study is about designing and numerically analysing a new model to achieve a higher drag value of the sensing system. The drag value of various models is determined with the help of CFD simulations in ANSYS. The outcome of this study is a new model with a drag value of 0.6915. It was achieved by implementing an aerodynamic shape, a more significant surface contact area in the middle, and canted fins at the front of the . Both pressure, drag, and skin friction were increased, so a higher drag value of the sensing module can be achieved. Through this, the mobility and control of modules in the pipeline can be improved, improving leak detection accuracy.

Abstract:

Body temperature is an important indicator of health monitoring. However, since animals are covered with fur, it is difficult to obtain their accurate body temperature with the traditional infrared measurement technology. To deal with this problem, this research proposes a non-contact real-time monitoring system using an infrared method combined with object detection. The system is developed based on general infrared thermal imaging technology and an infrared thermal imaging module with an image tracking algorithm. YOLO is used to detect animals, and a thermal imaging camera is used to measure the body surface temperature of animals. The result shows that the proposed system can accurately measure the body temperature of animals without being influenced by animals’ fur. In the future, it can be applied to monitor the body temperature of sick animals in veterinary hospitals.

Abstract:

The Internet of Things (IoT) has dominated the digital world by enabling thousands of physical devices to communicate with each other and share useful data over the Internet. With use cases spanning every sphere of modern life, the IoT is all set to revolutionize the traveling sector by extending services associated with safety, security, surveillance, tracking, comfort, and a lot more. This paper presents the design and implementation of a prototype Easy-Weigh-Out, based on the principles of the IoT which enables a user to run Android-based mobile application and view the weight of luggage and track its location without any contact with it. The hardware of the system is built around Arduino UNO microcontroller which interfaces with a load cell (20 kg) via A/D converter and a NEO-6M Global Positioning System (GPS) module for tracking of the bag. The system uploads data to a Cloud server using ESP8266 Wi-Fi module. Our results show the real-time weight and tracking of the bag at a click of a button as well as long-term data logging.
