This thesis is an integral part of the ELURENAQ research program. Supported by the universities of Pau, Bordeaux, and Poitiers, it focuses on the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region (a merger of Aquitaine, Poitou-Charentes, and Limousin). Through the study of elected officials, representation, public policies, and regional identity, it aims to provide new historical insights into this young institution of the French political field. Among its research focuses is the prosopographical approach to the elected officials who have served on the Regional Council. It includes all the representatives elected since the first regional elections by universal suffrage in 1986.This doctoral work fits into this aspect of the program. This approach centered on elected officials, based on a series of oral interviews and various archives, allowed for the creation of a database that encompasses all the relevant elected officials. Based on the results it provides, oral exchanges and archival sources allow us to broaden our perspective and ask: How do the collectivity and its elected officials fit into the complex field of a decentralized Republic? What role do elected representatives play in this regional development? How does it evolve according to various decentralization or territorial organization laws? What is the elected officials' own perspective on all these processes?Ultimately, did the establishment of a regional collectivity in 1986 facilitate the emergence of a specific regional political class?
