Abstract:
Laminar and turbulent flow have their own characteristics in respect of heat transfer in pipes. While conjugate heat transfer is a major concern for a thick walled pipe with laminar flow inside it, there are limited studies about a turbulent flow in a thick walled plain pipe considering the conjugate heat transfer. In order to conduct such a work by means of in-house developed code, it was desired to make a preliminary investigation with commercially available CFD codes. ANSYS CFD was selected as the tool since it has a positive reputation in the literature for reliability. Defined heat transfer problem was solved with SIMPLE and Coupled Schemes for pressure velocity coupling and results are presented accordingly.

Abstract:
Background:Expression of human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2 (HER2) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) cell line HN5 can be employed with great opportunities of success for specific targeting of anti-cancer chemotherapeutic agents. Objective:In the current study, HER2-specific affibody molecule, ZHER2:342 (an engineered protein with great affinity for HER2 receptors) was selected for conjugation to idarubicin (an anti-neoplastic antibiotic).Method:ZHER2:342 affibody gene with one added cysteine code at the its 5′ end was synthesized de novo and then inserted into pET302 plasmid and transferred to E. Coli BL21 hosting system. After induction of protein expression, the recombinant ZHER2 affibody molecules were purified using Ni- NTA resin and purity was analyzed through SDS-PAGE. Affinity-purified affibody molecules were conjugated to idarubicin through a heterobifunctional crosslinker, sulfosuccinimidyl 4-(Nmaleimidomethyl) cyclohexane-1-carboxylate (Sulfo-SMCC). Specific toxicity of idarubicin-ZHER2 affibody conjugate against two HER2-positive cells, HN5 and MCF-7 was assessed through MTT assay after an exposure time of 48 hours with different concentrations of conjugate. Results:Idarubicin in the non-conjugated form showed potent toxic effects against both cell lines, while HN5 cells were significantly more sensitive compared to MCF-7 cells. Dimeric ZHER2 affibody showed a mild decreasing effect on growth of both HN5 and MCF-7 cells at optimum concentration. Idarubicin-ZHER2 affibody conjugate at an optimum concentration reduced viability of HN5 cell line more efficiently compared to MCF-7 cell line.In conclusion, idarubicin-ZHER2 affibody conjugate in optimum concentrations can be used for specific targeting and killing of HN5 cells.

Abstract:
This paper presents a numerical study on the flow dynamics and heat transfer behaviour of unsteady conjugate natural convection boundary layers (CNCBLs) in a partitioned, air filled square cavity. An unsteady two-dimensional multigrid-assisted solver is developed in the C#.NET programming language on stretched Cartesian meshes. The finite volume method is used to discretise the governing equations. To solve the coupled pressure and velocity, the SIMPLE algorithm is used, and to increase simulation accuracy the Adam-Bashforth, QUICK and central difference schemes are employed for time, convection, and diffusion terms respectively. The Poisson pressure equation is solved through the use of the multigrid method. The developed code is used to model CNCBLs which typically require a large amount of simulation time. The numerical results provide detailed descriptions of unsteady CNCBLs and associated heat transfer behaviour over a wide range of Ra, such as the thermal and viscous boundary layer thicknesses, temperature and velocity distributions, and maximum velocities within the CNCBLs.

Abstract Let G be the group generated by z ↦ z+2 and z → -1/z , z ∈ ℂ. This group acts on the upper half plane and the associated quotient surface is topologically a sphere with two cusps. Assigning a “geometric” code to an oriented geodesic not going to cusps, with alphabets in ℤ \ {0}, enables us to conjugate the geodesic ow on this surface to a special ow over the symbolic space of these geometric codes. We will show that for k ≥ 1, a subsystem with codes from ℤ \ {0; ±1; ±2;… ; ±k} is a TBS: topologically Bernouli scheme. For similar codes for geodesic ow on modular surface, this was true for k ≥ 3. We also give bounds for the entropy of these subsystems.

Abstract:
With recent developments in parallel supercomputing architecture, many core, multi-core, and GPU processors are now commonplace, resulting in more levels of parallelism, memory hierarchy, and programming complexity. It has been necessary to adapt the MILC code to these new processors starting with NVIDIA GPUs, and more recently, the Intel Xeon Phi processors. We report on our efforts to port and optimize our code for the Intel Knights Landing architecture. We consider performance of the MILC code with MPI and OpenMP, and optimizations with QOPQDP and QPhiX. For the latter approach, we concentrate on the staggered conjugate gradient and gauge force. We also consider performance on recent NVIDIA GPUs using the QUDA library.

Abstract:
Based on the classical binary simplex code [Formula: see text] and any fixed-point-free element f of [Formula: see text], Calderbank et al. constructed a binary quantum error-correcting code [Formula: see text]. They proved that [Formula: see text] has a normal subgroup H, which is a semidirect product group of the centralizer Z(f) of f in GLm(2) with [Formula: see text], and the index [Formula: see text] is the number of elements of Ff = {f, 1 - f, 1/f, 1 - 1/f, 1/(1 - f), f/(1 - f)} that are conjugate to f. In this paper, a theorem to describe the relationship between the quotient group [Formula: see text] and the set Ff is presented, and a way to find the elements of Ff that are conjugate to f is proposed. Then we prove that [Formula: see text] is isomorphic to S3 and H is a semidirect product group of [Formula: see text] with [Formula: see text] in the linear case. Finally, we generalize a result due to Calderbank et al.

Abstract:
Progress in scientific computing has led to major advances in simulation and understanding of the different physical phenomena that exist in industrial gas turbines. However' most of these advances have focused on solving one problem at a time. Indeed' the combustion problem is solved independently from the thermal or radiation problems' etc... In reality all these problems interact: one speaks of coupled problems. Thus performing coupled computations can improve the quality of simulations and provide gas turbines engineers with new design tools. Recently' solutions have been developed to handle multiple physics simultaneously using generic solvers. However' due to their genericity these solutions reveal to be ineffective on expensive problems such as Large Eddy Simulation (LES). Another solution is to perform code coupling: specialized codes are connected together' one for each problem and they exchange data periodically. In this thesis a conjugate heat transfer problem is considered. A fluid domain solved by a combustion LES solver is coupled with a solid domain in which the conduction problem is solved. Implementing this coupled problem raises multiple issues which are addressed in this thesis. Firstly' the specific problem of coupling an LES solver to a conduction solver is considered: the impact of the inter-solver exchange frequency on convergence' possible temporal aliasing' and stability of the coupled system is studied. Then interpolation and geometrical issues are addressed: a conservative interpolation method is developed and compared to other methods. These methods are then applied to an industrial configuration' highlighting the problems and solutions specific to complex geometry. Finally' high performance computing (HPC) is considered: an efficient method to perform data exchange and interpolation between parallel codes is developed. This work has been applied to an aeronautical combustion chamber configuration.

Abstract:
The work wishes to offfer a critical approach to the canonistic idea of marriage, as resulting, at present, by the code of canon law (or by his mainstream interpretation). This idea consideres, in conclusion, spiritual partnership after divorce not infringe the principle of indissolubility. Thus, the study investigates some of the cultural origins of such idea, regarding especially the classic age of canon law - that fixed the long-lived outline of marriage - and the re-formulation of canonical discipline at times of compiling 1917 code of canon law - when the traditional conception was radicalised (the research concentrates on the unpublished documents of vatican secret archives). Subscribing to this historical point of view, it seems that many of contemporary questions on marriage must be considered in the light of the status of christian life; neverthless, the relation clergy-laic in the roman church is turned problematical and precarious after the second vatican council. Waiting for further development in the field of the theology and of the constitutional structure of the church, the study suggests an interim canonistic solution for the case of catholics divorced and remarried

Gabiam, Edoh. "Les remedes a la mesentente conjugale dans le code togolais de la famille." Poitiers, 1988. http://www.theses.fr/1988POIT3001.

Full text
Abstract:
Togo's family code came into existence on january 31,1980 and contents two kinds of remedies for conjugal conflicts. These remedies can be distinguished by their consequences on the marriage. The remedies that are used by the judge in order to preserve personnal and financial relations between the husband and the wife do not imply the desapearance of the bonds created by the marriage. For the most part, these remedies are elaborated to protect the wife from a misuse of the powers given to the husband who is the head of the family and the manager of the goods of the family. The temporary characteristic of these remedies and their area of application (sanction against the breach of the law concerning the pratical affairs of the marriage and the misuse of rights related to the marriage) allows them to designate "ponctual remedies". On the other hand, the other remedies are elaborated to operate for a longer periode of time and cause a loosmess and a dissolution of the marriage bonds. They are created for both the husband and the wife and are designated "durable remedies". Despite of that distinction, the two types of remedies for conjugal conflicts must necessarily fail because of the inadaptation of their texts and because of the persistance of traditionnal solutions of conjugal conflicts. The judge must adapt the code to the realities of togo life and to make his decisions to cause a new intervention by togo's legislators

Abstract: The purpose of this work is to present an approach to the genetic and molecular processes by use of the communication and coding theory in modelling the central dogma of the molecular biology. From this modelling we associate the genetic code to a modulator in the communication system. More specifically, such a procedure consists is in the construction of a signal constellation by use of the S3 and S4 permutation subgroups based on the code genetic. By considering this algebraic method of signal design, we propose two possible signal constellations to the genetic code. The representation of the genetic code as correlated signal constellations provides the idea idea of "concatenated signal constellation", an innovative idea in communication and coding theory. The concatenated signal constellations have the property of error-correction, a new concept being introduced. On the other hand, these representations of the genetic code are not unique for currently, we do not know an algebraic structure capable of describing the genetic code together with the partitioning generated by the amino acids.

Abstract:
Calcined coke is the best material for making carbon anodes for smelting of alumina to aluminum. Calcining is an energy intensive industry and a significant amount of heat is wasted in the calcining process. Efficiently managing this energy resource is tied to the profit margin and survivability of a calcining plant. 3-D computational models are developed using FLUENT to simulate the calcining process inside the long slender kiln. Simplified models are employed to simulate the moving petocke bed with a uniform distribution of moisture evaporation, devolatilization, and coke fines entrainment rate with a conjugate radiation-convection-conduction calculation. The results show the 3-D behavior of the flow, the reaction inside the kiln, heat transfer and the effect of the tertiary air on coke bed heat transfer. The ultimate goals are to reduce energy consumption, recover waste-heat, increase thermal efficiency, and increase the product yield.

Abstract:
If the euphoric laws of the years of african independence are supposed to protect among other things, the children as regards death-duties or the laws of custody, and women concerning marriage and divorce, the ancestral customs remain a dreadful impediment in nearly all countries of black africa. The listlessness of the public authorities towards this endurance is exactly the reason that induced us to choose this subjet. Indeed, these laws, aiming at the accelaration of the ecomic development and the modernisation of the family and judical institutions, and as well to deal with an equality problem regarding the administration of justice. Thus, concerning the matter of divorce, objective and precise causes, valid for men as well as for women, have been defined in the ivorian law. The destiny of the common patrimony of the married couple, on the whole, or the properties of each one of them, is regulated by the articles 7 and 8 of the law number 64376 from the 7th of october 1964 since the opening of the procedure. However, the sociological reality remains unchanged concerning the Ivory coast, where 80% of the population is rural and illiterate. The ancestral customs remain the only legal norms that the people spontaneously have recourse to, without even bothering about the existance of modern law childbird is always assured by non-legitimate midwives, who in the case of any difficulty

Full text
Abstract:
A set of studies centered around the reactions of the active methine compound 1-carbomethoxy-5-dicyanomethyl-1,3-cyclohexadiene (the "ring-opened adduct"), obtained by base-induced ring-opening of the Diels-Alder adduct of 5,5-dicyanocyclopentadiene and methyl acrylate, has been carried out. A plan was devised for the anionic (at the dicyanomethyl carbon) ring-opened adduct whereby its reaction with electrophiles, for example Michael reactions with double-bond acceptors, would generate reactive intermediates that would undergo cyclization by tandem conjugate addition to the a,ß,?,d-unsaturated ring p-system to generate bicyclic compounds. In practice, reaction with di-tert-butyl methylidenemalonate, methyl vinyl ketone, and cyclopentenone generated intermediates that exhibited greater tandem reactivity than was anticipated: the bicyclic enolates were found to cyclize further by Thorpe-Ziegler-like reaction with the proximal nitrile to generate, after facile acid hydrolysis, substituted known tricyclic skeleta termed homobrendanes, specifically, tricyclo[5. 2. 1. 04,8]decenes. An attempt was made to generalize the reaction to other substrates, among them singly-activated Michael acceptors and 1,2-heteroatom electrophiles, but the generalization of the homobrendane forming reaction did not meet with success. Attempted functional group manipulations to probe the conversion of the homobrendane derived from di-tert-butyl methylidenemalonate to the homobrendane natural product 2-isocyanoallopupukeanane revealed the unreactivity of the skeletal double-bond toward electrophiles and the high reactivity of the ring ketone toward nucleophiles, among them mCPBA which brought about Baeyer-Villiger reaction, and chloride and hydroxide, which brought about addition/elimination reactions to cleave the last-formed homobrendane ring.
The ring-opened adduct was also envisaged as a potential substrate in intramolecular Heck reactions. To this end, Heck substrates were generated from the ring-opened adduct anion and iodo- and bromo-benzyl halides. A key observation at this stage pertained to the unexpected acidity of the ring-opened adduct C5 proton, which could be deprotonated by DBU to bring about allylic isomerization, a finding that would provide a key insight to the pattern of reactivity later evidenced with alkyl propiolates. Optimization of the Heck substrate-generating reaction was followed by Heck reactions under Jeffery's conditions, which generated angular tricycles as intended, accompanied by aromatic compounds generated by base-induced HCN elimination/rearrangement and dehydrogenation. The Jeffery's conditions were optimized to limit the production of aromatics.
The possibility of ring-opened adduct-derived vinyl silane intermediates undergoing cationic cyclizations led to a minor study based upon the bromination of allylsilanes and the elimination of TMSBr from 1,2-dibromo-3-trimethylsilyl compounds, accessible compounds unaccounted for in the review literature. It was determined that the combination of HBr and Br2 (perhaps as HBr3) was required to eliminate TMSBr, in contravention of the textbook account of electrophilic substitutions being the inherent reactions of allylsilanes and Br2.
Unexpected tandem reactivity was observed in the reactions of the anionic ring-opened adduct and alkyl propiolates under catalytic DBU conditions. Rather than tandem cyclization or simple adduct formation, the allenolate intermediates were determined to undergo extremely facile formal allenolate Cope rearrangements involving the ?,d-double-bond of the parent ring. Excess base intercepted the allenolate by deprotonating ring C5 and effecting 1,2-vinyl transfer by 3-exo-trig addition-elimination. The chemistry of the highly delocalized side-chain carbanion in the Cope product was studied in detail.

Abstract:

In order to do so, we seek to raise the current definitions of violence against women in the marital context, to analyze the axes of racism, patriarchy and capitalism that, according to Saffioti (1987), form the knot that characterizes the system of domination and exploitation, The daily thought to, finally, to appreciate the conceptions of the subjects of the research, having as locus the Network of Coping with the Domestic and Sexual Violence Against the Women of the Municipality of Londrina. This is a descriptive, qualitative and field research. We carried out bibliographical review, field observation and semi-structured interviews with professionals working in said Network. As a result, we find that the conceptions of the subjects of this research find theoretical support from different perspectives. Among them we highlight the explanation of violence against women having these as accomplices; There are other subjects who conceive this phenomenon starting from the assumption that women are victims and there are those who are based on a historical-critical approach placing this question in the system of domination-exploitation based on patriarchy-racism-capitalism. We point out that many of the conceptions raised in this study are contradictory in themselves, that is, the same subject can in a fragment of speech support his analysis in more than one of the cited perspectives. This contradiction is not exclusive to these subjects, but it is a category immanent to reality, whose social subjects and everyday thinking are forged in a sociability based on the system of domination-exploitation, marked by the gender inequality that has in violence one of the forms of materialization.

Abstract:
For most women, marriage is a trap that society sets for them starting in childhood and into which they blindly fall as soon as adolescence is over. Having no experience with life, men, or themselves, they bind their existence to that of a stranger. Certainly there are some happy unions; many are tolerable. But for many couples who have come together by chance or through misunderstandings, conjugal life is a small hell. In general, the man most easily makes the best of it because he runs away from it; he works, he is independent. Supported by him, stuck in the home, the traditional woman is imprisoned in her function as wife, even if she can no longer bear it. After several years of slavery, many women dream of liberating themselves. If they really want it, divorce is one solution that is available to them. That is what Claire Cayron has chosen. And it has not been easy for her. But she has also come to understand how fallacious are some of the arguments that condemn it. She wanted her experience to benefit all women affected by this matter....

Abstract:
This book examines how African-Guyanese in New York City participate in the Come to My Kwe-Kwe ritual to facilitate rediasporization, that is, the creation of a newer diaspora from an existing one. Since the fall of 2005, African-Guyanese in New York City have celebrated Come to My Kwe-Kwe (more recently called Kwe-Kwe Night) on the Friday evening before Labor Day. Come to My Kwe-Kwe is a reenactment of a uniquely African-Guyanese pre-wedding ritual called kweh-kweh, and sometimes referred to as karkalay, mayan, kweh-keh, and pele. A typical traditional (wedding-based) kweh-kweh has approximately ten ritual segments, which include the pouring of libation to welcome or appease the ancestors; a procession from the groom’s residence to the bride’s residence or central kweh-kweh venue; the hiding of the bride; and the negotiation of bride price. Each ritual segment is executed with music and dance, which allow for commentary on conjugal matters, such as sex, domestication, submissiveness, and hard work. Come to My Kwe-Kwe replicates the overarching segments of the traditional kweh-kweh, but a couple (male and female) from the audience acts as the bride and groom, and props simulate the boundaries of the traditional performance space, such as the gate and the bride’s home. This book draws on more than a decade of ethnographic research data and demonstrates how Come to My Kwe-Kwe allows African-Guyanese-Americans to negotiate complex, overlapping identities in their new homeland, by combining elements from the past and present and reinterpreting them to facilitate rediasporization and ensure group survival.

Abstract:
The definition of family as a conjugal group consisting of parents and children living in the same household is in the process of a profound reworking, one that includes the constellation of family life that exists around the world. Increased migration and mobility have challenged traditional notions of what constitutes a family, yet much mainstream research relies on past notions of a cohesive unit under one domicile. Many families today are separated across distance and maintain ties in a multitude of ways. And although researchers have increasingly paid attention to this new picture of the family, much of this work has focused on transnational families separated in the context of overseas economic migration. In fact, family separation and long-distance parenting result from a multitude of reasons undertaken in various circumstances. This volume presents work from scholars who collectively show reasons that motivate parenting across distance, how families cope with separation and maintain ties, the impact of separation on family members, and how family is redefined and reconfigured in these various settings. By better understanding how we parent from a distance, this volume synthesizes ideas of kinship, relationships, and bonding and helps readers broaden their own ideas of parenting and family life.

Abstract:
The Zoanthus alkaloids, exemplified by (-)-norzoanthamine 3a and zoanthamine 3b, show promising activity against osteoporosis. Susumu Kobayashi of the Tokyo University of Science assembled (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2009, 48, 1400; Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2009, 48, 1404) the challenging tricyclic core of 3a employing the intramolecular Diels-Alder cyclization of 1 to 2. The cyclopentane of 1 served as useful scaffolding, even though it was cleaved en route to 3a. The cyclohexane ring of 1 has five of its six positions substituted, including three that are alkylated quaternary centers. The starting point for the preparation of 1 was the enantiomerically-pure Hajos-Parrish ketone 4, containing the first of the those quaternary centers. Conjugate addition of MeLi established the second quaternary center. The less stable endo alkyl branch of 1 was installed by conjugate addition to the more reactive α-methylene ketone of the cross-conjugated 5, followed by kinetic quench. Addition of vinyl cuprate across the open face of the enone 7 then established the final quaternary center, setting the stage for the intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction. The silyl enol ether from the cyclization of 1 was not stable, so it was directly oxidized to the enone 2. The keto phosphonate 16 for the last two rings of 3a was prepared from the previously-reported crystalline glutamic acid-derived mesylate 12. Reduction and homologation delivered the ester 14, that was condensed with the phosphonate anion 15 to give 16. The congested cyclopentanone 17, derived from 2, was most efficiently deprotonated with n -BuLi. Exposure of the resulting silyl enol ether to ozone led to the α-hydroxylated product 18. Unexpectedly but happily, oxidative cleavage of 18 delivered, after deprotection and reprotection, the more congested aldehyde 19. This cleavage may be proceeding by tautomerization of 18 to the regioisomeric keto alcohol. The aldehyde 19 was condensed with the keto phosphonate 16, to give, after hydrogenation, the keto lactone 20. A series of oxidation state adjustments then completed the synthesis of (-)-norzoanthamine 3a.

Abstract:
Basic results on bases of the free abelian group Z2 are proved by elementary and geometric methods. Bases are characterized by determinants of matrices. Primitive triangles and primitive parallelograms are introduced and characterized by tiling of the plane. Christoffel words are introduced by discrete geometric means: they code paths which discretize finite segments with integral endpoints. Their inner maximal factor is a palindrome, which is the cutting word associated with the segment. Their standard factorization is studied; uniqueness is proved (Borel and Laubie). The tree of Christoffel pairs is studied using Sturmian morphisms: these are the substitutions that preserve conjugates of Christoffel words.

Abstract:
This chapter defines the (dynamical) core of a topological polynomial (and the associated lamination). This notion extends that of the core of a unimodal interval map. Two explicit descriptions of the core are given: one related to periodic objects and one related to critical objects. Topological polynomials are topological dynamical systems that generalize complex polynomials with locally connected Julia sets restricted to their Julia sets and considered up to topological conjugacy. This chapter aims to illustrate the analogy between the dynamics of topological polynomials on their cutpoints and cut-atoms and interval dynamics. For example, it is known that for interval maps, periodic points and critical points play a significant, if not decisive, role. This chapter thus attempts to establish similar facts for topological polynomials.

Abstract:
Schrödinger hoped that his wave mechanics would help to re-establish some sense of ‘visualizability’ of the physics going on inside the atom. In searching for a suitable interpretation of the wavefunction, he focused on the density of electrical charge, which he associated with the wavefunction ψ‎ multiplied by its complex conjugate. Hidden in his words is the interpretation that would eventually come to dominate our understanding of the wavefunction. Max Born had no hesitation in concluding that the only way to reconcile wave mechanics with the particle description is to interpret the modulus-square of the wavefunction as a probability density. It was Wolfgang Pauli who proposed to interpret this not only as a transition probability or as the probability for the system to be in a specific state, as Born had done, but as the probability of ‘finding’ the electron at a specific position in its orbit inside an atom.

Abstract:
This paper describes the addition of conjugate capability to an existing Navier-Stokes code. Also, results are presented for an internally cooled configuration. The code is currently referred to as the Glenn-HT code, because of its origin at the NASA Glenn Research center and its proven ability to predict flow and Heat Transfer. In the past, the code had been called traf3d.mb. The addition of the conjugate capability to the code was accomplished with a minimum amount of changes to the code, with the understanding that if more advanced techniques were required they could be added at a later date. In the solid region, the density is constant and the velocities are of course zero which leaves only a simplified form of the energy equation to be solved. This simplified energy equation is solved using the same method as in the gas regions with only minor changes to the numerical parameters. At the interface between the gas and solid the wall temperature is set so as to produce the same heat flux in each region. Results are presented for a pipe flow to validate the implementation. Numerical and experimental results are then presented for flow over a flat plate that is cooled internally. Flat plate Reynolds numbers in the range 180,000 to 950,000, and coolant channel Reynolds numbers in the range 30,000 to 60,000 are presented.

Abstract:
The analysis of heat transfer in engine cavities or blade internal cooling systems is one of the most challenging work for aircraft engines designers for two main reasons. Firstly, the efficiency of such systems has a direct influence on both life and performance of these engines. Secondly, the available tools to predict heat transfer in both solid parts and surrounding cooling gases, i.e. Navier Stokes and conduction codes, are often used independently. An interaction model between the fluid and solid media is generally required and remains a difficult issue in engine configurations. A coupling procedure between a Navier-Stokes code and a conduction solver is therefore the only way to achieve heat transfer predictions in all flow situations. The objective of this work is to present such a procedure, which has been developed at Snecma and based on a Finite Volume Navier-Stokes code and a commercial Finite Element solver. The first application showed in the paper demontrates, with an uncoupled calculation that the Navier-Stokes code MSD, from ONERA, is able to predict heat transfer with an acceptable accuracy. The discretization used in the solid to predict heat conduction is briefly presented. Then the steady state coupling procedure is exposed and validated with an analytical solution. Finally, a conjugate heat transfer computation in a rotor/rotor cavity of a real engine, with rotating solid disks, is described in detail.

Abstract:
This paper presents results of a study of the conjugate heat transfer (CHT) to calculate the metal temperature for a film-cooled gas turbine blade. ANSYS CFX14.0 code was selected as the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) tool to perform the CHT simulation. The two-equation SST turbulence model with automatic wall treatment was employed. The main flow inlet and exit boundary conditions were deduced from a multi-blade-row CFD code, Fine/Turbo by NUMECA. A core engine test operated at the maximum power condition. Thermocouples were used to validate the blade metal temperature calculations. The blade temperature comparison between test data and CHT predictions was in good agreement except at the suction side near the leading edge region. The pressure, temperature and Mach number distributions for blade internal and external flows were presented and examined. The streamline contours of the film flows on the pressure side and suction side were plotted and used to visualize the cooling effectiveness. In order to evaluate the influence of the turbulence model, the thermal results of four additional turbulence models (SA, RNG, K-ε, and SST with transition control) were compared to the test data. The SST model is suggested to be the appropriate turbulence model for the film-cooled blade temperature calculation in this study.

Abstract:
Conjugate heat transfer numerical simulation of a transonic internal cooled turbine vane is carried out with a third-order accuracy TVD (Total Variation Diminishing) scheme and multi-block structured grids using the code developed in this paper. Comparison between results of commercial CFD codes with several turbulence models and those of this code show that it is incorrect of computational codes to predict the thermal boundary layer with traditional turbulence models, and that the turbulence models considering transitional phenomenon is able to acquire better accurate heat transfer in thermal boundary layer despite of certain deficiencies yet. The predicted distributions of aerodynamic parameters agree well with the experiments except for the temperature and heat transfer coefficient over the profile surface, which are largely different from the measured data. Results by Star-CD with V2-F model meet the same problem. Results by the code of this paper are close to those by CFX with K-ω-SST-ML transition model. Adopting transition model of Menter & Langtry (Shear-Stess-Transition model) gives the best results by adjusting the transition onset momentum thickness Reynolds number and the inlet viscosity ratio, especially for the mid part of the suction side where the validation accuracy is of a serious shortage by traditional turbulence model. It is proved in this paper that commercial codes have the ability to simulate transition process and thermal boundary layer accurately, but the designer’s experience is of utmost importance. Robust transition turbulence model should be developed further. PSE stability analysis equation and e-N prediction method are both integrated in this paper. It is concluded that boundary layer stability analysis by PSE method can be applied to the prediction of the transition onset without too many experiences and is able to define the empirical turbulence parameters for the accurate simulation of thermal boundary layer for any airfoil, such as the very important transition onset momentum thickness Reynolds number.

Abstract:
Slip-flow and conjugate heat transfer in rectangular microchannels are studied numerically for thermally developing laminar flow subjected to constant wall temperature (T) and constant wall heat flux (H2) boundary conditions. A three-dimensional numerical code based on finite volume method is developed to solve the coupled energy equations in the wall and fluid regions together with temperature jump at the wall-fluid boundary. A modified convection-diffusion coefficient at the wall-fluid interface is defined to incorporate the temperature-jump boundary condition. The numerical code is validated by comparing the present results with the published data. The effect of rarefaction and wall conduction on the heat transfer in the entrance region is analyzed in detail. Results show that the wall conduction has a considerable influence on the developing Nusselt number along the channel for the H2 boundary condition, particularly at low Knudsen numbers. In the case of the T thermal boundary condition, negligible influence of wall conduction on the Nusselt number is observed for all Knudsen numbers considered.
