Abstract:
Conjoin analysis involves physically fitting back together objects broken in antiquity. Objects which are refitted are said to be 'conjoined', and a number conjoined together are called a 'conjoin set'. Conjoin analyses of stone artefacts began over a century ago with the work of Spurrell (1980; 1984). Subsequently, this approach has been used for a number of purposes. Cahen and colleagues used the vertical separation of conjoined artefacts to measure the extent of post-depositional displacement at Old World sites (Cahen 1978; Cahen and Moyersons 1977; Cahen et al 1979; Van Noten et al 1980). A number of researchers have used conjoin data to discuss the horizontal movement of humans and their debris across living floors (eg. Leroi-Gourhan and Brezillon 1966, 1972; Frison 1968, 1974; Van Noten, et al 1980; Singer 1984). Discussions of artefact breakage have often been accompanied by drawings of refitted fragments (eg. Lenoir 1975; Mallouf 1982). By providing information about sequential blows applied to a core, conjoin analysis has also aided in the reconstruction of the knapping process (eg. Kobayashi 1970; Frison 1974; Van Noten 1975; Fasham and Ross 1978; Leach 1984). In Australia, conjoin analysis has been used to examine vertical displacement (eg. Stern 1980) and to assist reconstruction of prehistoric stoneworking technology (eg. Noetling 1908; Luebbers 1978; Witter 1977).

Abstract:
AbstractNation-wide data in Japan on the 112 sets of conjoined twins from fetal deaths and from postnatal deaths during 1979-1985 were analysed. Female conjoined twins accounted for 60% of cases. The incidence rate of conjoined twins remained Constant except in 1985. Overall incidence rate was 10 per million births. Maternal age effect was found in mothers over the age of 40, where the highest incidence rate was obtained. The incidence rate of conjoined twins increased with birth order. There was no seasonal variation in the time of conception.

Abstract:
Craniopagus-type conjoined twins (joined at the head) are exceedingly rare. Separation of craniopagus conjoined twins is a challenging task mainly owing to complex vascular anatomy and limited experience with this disorder. Modern neuroimaging techniques including digital subtraction angiography can be used to preoperatively assess the cerebral vascular system. These techniques can also provide the raw data to fabricate three-dimensional true-scale models. We report a case in which endovascular techniques have been used in the separation of craniopagus conjoined twins. To our knowledge there are no reports of successful incorporation of neurointerventional methods in the disconnection of shared venous channels.

Abstract:
The interactions between intrinsic grouping principles (by proximity or by similarity in shape or luminance) and extrinsic grouping by common region were examined by presenting both principles acting alone or conjoined with another principle in visual patterns. The procedure used in our study closely mirrored that of Quinlan and Wilton (1998 Perception27 417 – 430). However, in the present experiment, the intrinsic and extrinsic grouping principles involved had similar relative salience in order to avoid their possible effects on interactions. The results showed that the grouping effect of conjoined cooperating principles was greater than that of either principle acting alone, and the grouping effect of conjoined competing principles was lower than that of either principle operating alone. Compatibility of data with additive effects of grouping principles has been examined.

Abstract:
Covalent linkers bridging the domains of multidomain proteins are considered to be crucial for assembly and function. In this report, an exception in which the linker of a two-domain dimeric L-asparaginase fromPyrococcus furiosus(PfA) was found to be dispensable is presented. Domains of this enzyme assembled without the linker into a conjoined tetrameric form that exhibited higher activity than the parent enzyme. The global shape and quaternary structure of the conjoined PfA were also similar to the wild-type PfA, as observed by their solution scattering profiles and X-ray crystallographic data. Comparison of the crystal structures of substrate-bound and unbound enzymes revealed an altogether new active-site composition and mechanism of action. Thus, conjoined PfA is presented as a unique enzyme obtained through noncovalent, linker-less assembly of constituent domains that is stable enough to function efficiently at elevated temperatures.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To review the history, epidemiology, etiology, gestational aspects, diagnosis and prognosis of imperfect twinning. DATA SOURCES Scientific articles were searched in PubMed, SciELO and Lilacs databases, using the descriptors "conjoined twins", "multiple pregnancy", "ultrasound", "magnetic resonance imaging" and "prognosis". The research was not delimited to a specific period of time and was supplemented with bibliographic data from books. DATA SYNTHESIS: The description of conjoined twins is legendary. The estimated frequency is 1/45,000-200,000 births. These twins are monozygotic, monochorionic and usually monoamniotic. They can be classified by the most prominent fusion site, by the symmetry between the conjoined twins or by the sharing structure. The diagnosis can be performed in the prenatal period or after birth by different techniques, such as ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography. These tests are of paramount importance for understanding the anatomy of both fetuses/children, as well as for prognosis and surgical plan determination. CONCLUSIONS Although imperfect twinning is a rare condition, the prenatal diagnosis is very important in order to evaluate the fusion site and its complexity. Hence, the evaluation of these children should be multidisciplinary, involving mainly obstetricians, pediatricians and pediatric surgeons. However, some decisions may constitute real ethical dilemmas, in which different points should be discussed and analyzed with the health team and the family.

Abstract:
This essay examines the Super Bowl and the smart city as conjoined spectacles. A focused case study on Super Bowl LIII and its staging in Atlanta, Georgia in 2019 allows us to investigate how the use of cutting-edge smart technologies, including cameras, sensors, artificial intelligence, image recognition, and data collection techniques to secure Mercedes Benz stadium naturalizes a broader anticipatory logic of state and corporate intervention, often evoked in the name of public safety and terrorism-prevention. Together the spectacles of sport and smart technologies gloss over systemic inequality and legitimize security infrastructures as well as related ideas that social problems such as a lack of affordable housing, police brutality, and environmental degradation are best addressed through technological solutions. Foregrounding the conjoined spectacles of the smart city and Super Bowl problematizes seemingly necessary security processes and social relations among people, events, technologies, and cities, inviting further research and discussions necessary for strengthening critical interventions and theorizing in these areas.

Full text
Abstract:
We discuss the phenomenon of closest conjunct agreement with a special focus on head-final languages; we present data from two such languages, Hindi and Tsez, which allow agreement with the rightmost conjunct when the verb follows the conjoined phrase. This contrasts with head-initial languages, such as Arabic, where close conjunct agreement is with the leftmost conjunct in clauses with VS order. In addition, both languages exhibit certain flexibility of word order at root clause level; when the verb precedes the conjoined phrase, it can also agree with the leftmost conjunct. The empirical data from the two languages raise the following questions. First, is the typological difference between head-initial and head-final languages in the context of coordination due to a difference in the structure of coordination in these two groups? Second, to what extent is the syntactic configuration relevant to the computation of closest conjunct agreement? Third, what is the role of linear proximity in closest conjunct agreement? These questions have wider implications for the analysis of agreement and the relation between syntax and the morpho-phonological component.

Abstract:
The Weibull three-parameter model is widely used in the analysis of reliability data, since it provides a good fit to many, but not all, data cases. In this work an analysis is presented in which locally constant hazard rate functions are applied in the analysis. By defining concomitant fuzzy reliability functions as overlapping fuzzy sets, the limited ranges may be conjoined to provide an extensive continuous reliability function. The efficacy of this treatment is tested with three different typical cases of published physical data that were previously the subjects of Weibull graphical analysis. It is found that in each case the treatment is effective. Different phases of the failure pattern of each case are identified and characterized by ‘time’ constants. The treatment is not limited to three parameters, as in the Weibull case, and it is therefore more flexible. It provides a deeper insight into the underlying failure mechanisms and may be expected to provide a wider range of applications, both within reliability data analysis and in other fields, and can form part of a knowledge-based system.

Abstract:
Biodegradable pectin polymers have been recommended for a variety of biomedical applications, ranging from the delivery of oral drugs to the repair of injured visceral organs. A promising approach to regulate pectin biostability is the blending of pectin films. To investigate the development of conjoined films, we examined the physical properties of high-methoxyl pectin polymer-polymer (homopolymer) interactions at the adhesive interface. Pectin polymers were tested in glass phase (10–13% w/w water content) and gel phase (38–41% w/w water content). The tensile strength of polymer-polymer adhesion was measured after variable development time and compressive force. Regardless of pretest parameters, the adhesive strength of two glass phase films was negligible. In contrast, adhesion testing of two gel phase films resulted in significant tensile adhesion strength (p < 0.01). Adhesion was also observed between glass phase and gel phase films—likely reflecting the diffusion of water from the gel phase to the glass phase films. In studies of the interaction between two gel phase films, the polymer-polymer adhesive strength increased linearly with increasing compressive force (range 10–80 N) (R2 = 0.956). In contrast, adhesive strength increased logarithmically with time (range 10–10,000 s) (R2 = 0.913); most of the adhesive strength was observed within minutes of contact. Fracture mechanics demonstrated that the adhesion of two gel phase films resulted in a conjoined film with distinctive physical properties including increased extensibility, decreased stiffness and a 30% increase in the work of cohesion relative to native polymers (p < 0.01). Scanning electron microscopy of the conjoined films demonstrated cross-grain adhesion at the interface between the adhesive homopolymers. These structural and functional data suggest that blended pectin films have emergent physical properties resulting from the cross-grain intermingling of interfacial pectin chains.

Abstract:
Drainage network analysis includes several operations that quantify the topological organization of stream networks. Network analysis operations are frequently performed on streams that are derived from digital elevation models (DEMs). While these methods are suited to application with fine-resolution DEM data, this is not the case for coarse DEMs or low-relief landscapes. In these cases, network analysis that is based on mapped vector streams is an alternative. This study presents a novel vector drainage network analysis technique for performing stream ordering, basin tagging, the identification of main stems and tributaries, and the calculation of total upstream channel length and distance to outlet. The algorithm uses a method for automatically identifying outlet nodes and for determining the upstream-downstream connections among links within vector stream networks while using the priority-flood method. The new algorithm was applied to test stream datasets in two Canadian study areas. The tests demonstrated that the new algorithm could efficiently process large hydrographic layers containing a variety of topological errors. The approach handled topological errors in the hydrography data that have challenged previous methods, including disjoint links, conjoined channels, and heterogeneity in the digitized direction of links. The method can provide a suitable alternative to DEM-based approaches to drainage network analysis, particularly in applications where stream burning would otherwise be necessary.

Gender in Chichewa is described as a complete system. First the basic data on gender agreement are presented and it is shown how the available agreement markers correlate with the noun genders (and how the system has changed in the recent past). There follows a discussion of interesting phenomena which do not fit easily into the main gender system. Next structures involving conjoined noun phrases headed by nouns from various genders are analysed in detail. The rules required to account for the Chichewa system prove particularly complex; rules proposed for other Bantu languages do not cover all the Chichewa facts. The data are important for comparative work within Bantu and for typological claims which go beyond. O.

Abstract:
The proliferation of micromobility, evolving from station-based to dockless bikeshare programs, has dramatically accelerated since 2017 with an influx of investment from the private sector to a new product, dockless e-scooter share. As an alternative to pedal bikes, e-scooters have become widespread across the U.S.A. owing to the unprecedented convenience they bring to commuters and travelers with electric-power propulsion and freedom from docking stations. In cities like Washington, D.C., e-scooter share can play an important role to support transportation sustainability and boost accessibility in less-connected communities. This study takes advantage of publicly available but not readily accessible e-scooter share data in Washington, D.C. for an initial view of the travel patterns and behaviors related to this new mode. The study adopted an innovative approach to scrape and process general bikeshare feed specification data in real time for e-scooters. Not only locational time series data, but also e-scooter share trip trajectories were generated. The trip trajectory data provide a unique opportunity to examine travel patterns at the street link level—a level of analysis that has not been reached before for e-scooter share to the authors’ knowledge. The paper first provides descriptive statistics on e-scooter share trips, followed by an exploratory analysis of trip trajectories conjoined with street link level features. Important insights on e-scooter route choice are derived. Lastly, policy and regulatory implications in relation to e-scooter facility design and safety risks are discussed.

Abstract Accounting for the behavior of conjoined and disjoined if-clauses is not easy for standard theories of conditionals that treat if as either an operator or restrictor. In this paper, I discuss four observations about coordinated if-clauses, and motivate a semantics for conditionals that reorients the compositional structure of the restrictor theory. On my proposal, if-clauses provide restrictions on modal domains, but they do so by way of a higher type intermediary—a set of propositions—that is collapsed by the modal. I argue that combining this view with an independently plausible type-shifting operation applied to or and and predicts the range of data we find for conditionals with coordinated if-clauses.

Although evidence reveals that the social exchange process and identity verification process each can produce social bonds, researchers have yet to examine their conjoined effects. In this paper, we consider how exchange processes and identity processes separately and jointly shape the social bonds that emerge between actors. We do this with data from an experiment that introduces the fairness person identity (how people define themselves in terms of fairness) in a negotiated exchange context. The findings reveal how both exchange and identity processes operate in an independent as well as contingent manner to influence the development of social cohesion at the micro level. The contingent nature of the results suggests both exchange and identity theories need to be modified to account for these contingencies.

Abstract:
Abstract Tropical cyclones, also known as typhoons or hurricanes, are among the most devastating events in nature and often strike the western North Pacific region (including the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, China, and others). This paper focuses on addressing the rainfall retrieval problem for quantitative precipitation forecast during tropical cyclones. In this study, Special Sensor Microwave Imager (SSM/I) data and Water Resources Agency (WRA) measurements of Taiwan were used to quantitatively estimate precipitation over the Tanshui River basin in northern Taiwan. Various retrievals for the rainfall rate over land are compared by five methods/techniques. They are the single-channel regression, multichannel linear regressions (MLR), scattering index over land approach (SIL), support vector regression (SVR), and the proposed SIL–SVR. This study collected 70 typhoons affecting the studied watershed over the past 12 years (1997–2008). The measurements of the SSM/I satellite comprise the brightness temperatures at 19.35, 22.23, 37.0, and 85.5 GHz. Overall, the results showed the approaches using the SVR and conjoined SVR and SIL performed better than regression and SIL methods according to their performances of the root-mean-square error (RMSE), bias ratio, and equitable threat score (ETS).

Abstract:
This paper explores issues of intersubjectivity and shared understanding as they arise in dyadic spoken interaction. Using data from Swedish conversations, we approach the topic by focusing on the functions of a reactive construction that occurs in situations when a linguistic expression (x) has been used in a prior utterance, and this expression is found to be only partially acceptable in the situation at hand. It is therefore reacted to by one of the interlocutors, and negotiated in a new turn initiated byx-å-x, i.e. a unit in which two identical copies ofxare conjoined byå‘and’, and then expanded by a supporting argument. The pragmatic functions of the construction include that of suggesting a sufficient clarification of what should be a reasonable situated meaning and an intersubjective basis for ensuing talk.

ObjectiveCadherin 17 (CDH17), belonging to the 7D-cadherin superfamily, represents a novel oncogene, which is involved in tumor invasion and metastasis. Its expression has been demonstrated to be regulated by caudal-related homeobox transcription factor CDX2. The roles of 2 biomarkers have been conflictingly explained. Therefore, the aims of this study were to investigate the expression patterns of CDH17 and CDX2 in human epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and to evaluate the clinical significance of these 2 markers in the progression and prognosis of EOC.MethodsCDH17 and CDX2 expressions in 182 paraffin-embedded EOC specimens were detected by immunohistochemical staining. Associations of their expression with clinical pathological factors and overall survival were statistically evaluated.ResultsCompared with normal surface ovarian epithelium tissues, CDH17 expression was upregulated and CDX2 expression was downregulated in EOC tissues. There was a negative correlation between CDH17 and CDX2 expression in EOC tissues (r = −0.76, P = 0.001). Tumors with high CDH17 expression were more likely to have advanced stage (P = 0.01) and higher grade (P = 0.03). Patients with low CDX2 expression were more frequently to be at the advanced stage of disease (P = 0.01). In addition, univariate analysis indicated that the patients with high CDH17 expression correlated with poor prognosis in patients with EOC (P = 0.001), as opposed to CDX2 (P = 0.003). Especially, the survival rate of patients with EOC with CDH17-high/CDX2-low expression was the lowest (P < 0.001). Multivariate statistical analysis showed that the conjoined expression of CDH17/CDX2 was an independent prognostic indicator of EOC (P = 0.01).ConclusionsOur data suggest that both the up-regulation of CDH17 and the down-regulation of CDX2 may be associated with the advanced stage of EOC. A conjoined detection of CDH17/CDX2 expression may be associated with unfavorable prognosis in patients with this disease.

There are three disadvantages of unit cells in most previous works such as the fiber volume fraction hard to touch the reality despite the packing factor is maximum 1, the yarns are curved subjectively which is far away from realistic geometry structure, a quantity of connected surfaces are neglected as the yarns are not match the real appearance. A new unit cell established based on the real manufacturing process and structure could improve these aspects in this work. The yarn in the unit cell was similar to the real one which was constructed by photos. The details at the conjoined position were also expressed thoroughly. The result of finite element simulation was in good agreement with the available experimental data.

Abstract:
Diploid germline cells must undergo two consecutive meiotic divisions before differentiating as haploid sex cells. During meiosis I, homologs pair and remain conjoined until segregation at anaphase. Drosophila melanogaster spermatocytes are unique in that the canonical events of meiosis I including synaptonemal complex formation, double-strand DNA breaks, and chiasmata are absent. Sex chromosomes pair at intergenic spacer sequences within the ribosomal DNA (rDNA). Autosomes pair at numerous euchromatic homologies, but not at heterochromatin, suggesting that pairing may be limited to specific sequences. However, previous work generated from genetic segregation assays or observations of late prophase I/prometaphase I chromosome associations fail to differentiate pairing from maintenance of pairing (conjunction). Here, we separately examined the capability of X euchromatin to pair and conjoin using an rDNA-deficient X and a series of Dp(1;Y) chromosomes. Genetic assays showed that duplicated X euchromatin can substitute for endogenous rDNA pairing sites. Segregation was not proportional to homology length, and pairing could be mapped to nonoverlapping sequences within a single Dp(1;Y). Using fluorescence in situ hybridization to early prophase I spermatocytes, we showed that pairing occurred with high fidelity at all homologies tested. Pairing was unaffected by the presence of X rDNA, nor could it be explained by rDNA magnification. By comparing genetic and cytological data, we determined that centromere proximal pairings were best at segregation. Segregation was dependent on the conjunction protein Stromalin in Meiosis, while the autosomal-specific Teflon was dispensable. Overall, our results suggest that pairing may occur at all homologies, but there may be sequence or positional requirements for conjunction.

Abstract:
Multi-robot systems are often static and pre-configured during the design time of their software. Emerging cooperation between unknown robots is still rare and limited. Such cooperation might be basic like sharing sensor data or complex like conjoined motion planning and acting. Robots should be able to detect other robots and their abilities during runtime. When cooperation seems to be possible and beneficial, it should be initiated autonomously. A centralized cloud control shall be avoided. Using software patterns belonging to service-oriented architectures, the robots are able to discover other robots and their abilities during runtime. These abilities are implemented as services and described by their interfaces. Composition of services can be done easily and flexibly. The software patterns originally belonging to cloud computing could be successfully adopted to decentralized multi-robot systems. The developed concept allows autonomous systems to cooperate flexibly and to compose multi-robot systems during runtime.

Abstract:
Abstract Three-dimensional ultrasound (3DUS) imaging is a new technique that allows imaging from volume sonographic data rather than conventional planar data. The volume data can be viewed as a three-dimensional object and displayed in multiplanar mode in three orthogonal planes or in various modes of rendering that can be selected singularly or combined to optimize the visualization of soft tissues, bony structures or vessels. The 4D imaging has introduced a temporal dimension to the 3D volumetric scansion, associating movement to representation of volumes. 3DUS provides the ability to examine the embryo and the fetus at the first trimester in any arbitrary plane. Various studies have reported a better visualization of the structures in normal fetuses as well as malformed ones, regarding selected cases of facial structures, cranium, abdominal wall and limbs. 3DUS technique is also being considered for measurement of nuchal translucency and the evaluation of the nasal bones. Several reports exist on the application of 3D-4D techniques regarding conjoined twins. 4DUS allows the evaluation of fetal motorial and behavioral patterns. 3D-4D techniques are seen as a powerful complement to conventional ultrasound, but not a substitution to it.

Abstract:
In contrast to the mid-twentieth century era of transnational commerce, in which the US or European manufacturing multinationals played the leading role, twenty-first century globalization is increasingly structured by a set of retail-dominated supply chains, that of Wal-Mart first among them. This strategic shift in the locus of corporate power has arisen out of two conjoined phenomena: first, the logistical integration made possible and necessary by the revolution in information/transportation technology (bar codes, data storage, containerization, global communications), and second, the neoliberal transformation of the worldwide political economy, which in the US has facilitated the massive expansion of a low-wage, import dependent retail sector, while in coastal China it has generated a huge export-manufacturing boom. But the global supply chain linking Guangdong Province to Bentonville, Arkansas may well be an increasingly fragile one, because the proletarianization of tens of millions of Chinese peasants is unlikely to go smoothly, especially under conditions of authoritarian governance.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The overarching nature of building resilience across disciplines and its inherent positive mutual understanding due to the association with the immune system also amongst the non-scientific community, makes it an attractive and increasing popular concept which everybody seems able to grasp its necessity. Hence, there is an exponential increase, even limited down to the key words “urban resilience”, in scientific literature over the last decade. Moreover the concept is also taken up by the New Urban Agenda Habitat III, the SDG goals and the IPCC. Hand in hand with this development the definitions and attempts of operationalization are innumerable. Conjoined, there is a lack of validation of resilience measures, including spatio-temporal aspects but also of the single component of it. Moreover, traditional data sources like census or governmental data miss out on certain important facets making empirical validation impossible and lack the spatio-temporal resolution necessary to cover the characteristics of resilience. Hence, this experimental study explores and develops new spatial indicators through machine learning methods applied to OpenStreetMap data to replicate conventional core indicators. In order to cover all spatial attributes indicators for points, lines and areas are deduced and investigated with supervised and unsupervised algorithms.</p>

Abstract:
Background: Coracoid process transfer for the treatment of recurrent glenohumeral dislocations is a safe and reliable procedure; however, there is no consensus as to which is the best method, the Bristow or Latarjet procedure. Purpose: To analyze the results of coracoid process transfer for the treatment of recurrent glenohumeral dislocations and to compare the results of this transfer between the Bristow and Latarjet techniques. Study Design: Systematic review; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: The databases surveyed for this review included J-STAGE; Cochrane Bone, Joint and Muscle Trauma Group Specialized Register; Cochrane Controlled Register of Trials; MEDLINE; Ovid; Embase; Google Scholar; and CINAHL. Inclusion criteria consisted of (1) studies related to anterior glenohumeral dislocations treated with transfer of the coracoid process to the anterior glenoid rim and (2) studies that could provide data to perform at least 1 meta-analysis or other statistical evaluation. Titles and abstracts were reviewed for inclusion; thereafter, outcomes and the risk of bias were extracted. Statistical analyses were performed according to the nature of the data. When possible, the 95% CI was included. Results: Of the 779 studies found, 63 were able to provide data assessing 3395 shoulders. There were no randomized, blinded, or double-blinded trials. The recurrence of dislocations was assessed in 41 studies that used the Bristow technique (n = 2346 shoulders; percentage redislocations [mean ± SE], 1.00% ± 0.20%) and 18 studies that used the Latarjet technique (n = 930 shoulders; percentage redislocations, 2.13% ± 0.49%) ( P = .04). The mean loss of external rotation was 12.91° for the Bristow procedure (n = 1440 shoulders) and 11.70° for the Latarjet procedure (n = 243 shoulders). The mean quality-of-life outcome scores were as follows for the Bristow and Latarjet procedures, respectively: Rowe score, 92.06 and 89.33; Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index score, 16.44% and 19.68%; Japanese Orthopaedic Association score, 93.28 and 92.00; and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons score, 91.00 and 89.90. Conclusion: Transferring the coracoid to the anteroinferior border of the glenoid through the subscapularis tendon is effective, regardless of the technique. When comparing the Bristow and Latarjet techniques, the recurrence of dislocations was the only outcome that could undergo a meta-analysis, and it presented a statistically significant difference in favor of the Bristow procedure. All other outcomes presented no clinically significant differences between their effect sizes. More studies presenting better methodology are still needed to achieve more robust conclusions.

Abstract:
The instrumental use of steroids and analogous drugs is a normalised practice in bodybuilding subculture. However, in a society where bodily health and lifestyle are conjoined, such risk-taking carries negative connotations. Bodybuilders using drugs for purposes of physique enhancement are able to resist accusations of opprobrium and maintain competent social identity by drawing a sharp contrast between themselves and ‘junkies’. This self-serving differentiation appears untenable, however, when bodybuilders take Ephedrine and Nubain: drugs that may be compared respectively and unfavourably to amphetamines and heroin. Using qualitative data, this paper considers the variable status of Ephedrine and Nubain as risk boundaries among bodybuilders. In operating as risk boundaries, these drugs signify limits beyond which ‘sensible’ drug-using bodybuilders should not venture. As social constructs, risk boundaries are also contingent. Correspondingly, bodybuilders using Ephedrine and Nubain may redraw lines delimiting (in)appropriate behaviour thereby retaining competent social identity. These ethnographic observations ground theoretical debate about the impact of risk society on body- and identity building in late modernity and highlight some of the limitations of influential cultural theories of risk.

Abstract:
AbstractThe driving mechanism of solar flares and coronal mass ejections is a topic of ongoing debate, apart from the consensus that magnetic reconnection plays a key role during the impulsive process. While present solar research mostly depends on observations and theoretical models, laboratory experiments based on high-energy density facilities provide the third method for quantitatively comparing astrophysical observations and models with data achieved in experimental settings. In this article, we show laboratory modeling of solar flares and coronal mass ejections by constructing the magnetic reconnection system with two mutually approaching laser-produced plasmas circumfused of self-generated megagauss magnetic fields. Due to the Euler similarity between the laboratory and solar plasma systems, the present experiments demonstrate the morphological reproduction of flares and coronal mass ejections in solar observations in a scaled sense, and confirm the theory and model predictions about the current-sheet-born anomalous plasmoid as the initial stage of coronal mass ejections, and the behavior of moving-away plasmoid stretching the primary reconnected field lines into a secondary current sheet conjoined with two bright ridges identified as solar flares.

Abstract:
Long interspersed element-1 (LINE-1 or L1) amplifies via retrotransposition. Active L1s encode 2 proteins (ORF1p and ORF2p) that bind their encoding transcript to promote retrotransposition in cis. The L1-encoded proteins also promote the retrotransposition of small-interspersed element RNAs, noncoding RNAs, and messenger RNAs in trans. Some L1-mediated retrotransposition events consist of a copy of U6 RNA conjoined to a variably 5′-truncated L1, but how U6/L1 chimeras are formed requires elucidation. Here, we report the following: The RNA ligase RtcB can join U6 RNAs ending in a 2′,3′-cyclic phosphate to L1 RNAs containing a 5′-OH in vitro; depletion of endogenous RtcB in HeLa cell extracts reduces U6/L1 RNA ligation efficiency; retrotransposition of U6/L1 RNAs leads to U6/L1 pseudogene formation; and a unique cohort of U6/L1 chimeric RNAs are present in multiple human cell lines. Thus, these data suggest that U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) and RtcB participate in the formation of chimeric RNAs and that retrotransposition of chimeric RNA contributes to interindividual genetic variation.

Abstract:
In Ancient Greek, as well as in other languages, whenever agreement is triggered by two or more coordinated phrases, two different constructions are allowed: either the agreement can be controlled by the coordinated phrase as a whole, or it can be triggered by just one of the coordinated words. In spite of the amount of information that can be read on this topic in grammars of Ancient Greek, much is still to be known even at a general descriptive level. More importantly, the data still lack a convincing explanation. In this paper, we focus on a special domain of agreement (subject and verb agreement) and on one morphological feature that is expected to covary (number). We discuss the agreement in number for conjoined phrases, by revising some of the modern hypotheses with the support of the empirical evidence that can be collected from the available syntactically annotated corpora of Ancient Greek (treebanks). Results are interpreted according to syntactic features, cognitive factors and semantic properties of the coordinated phrases.

Abstract:
There is a corresponding and complementary relationship among the three manufacturing techniques/processes—lean, green, and six-sigma—in premise of Industry 4.0. The three manufacturing techniques assist the managers for big data analysis of industrial wastes/byproducts and its corresponding influences over industries. The practiced manufacturing techniques are functioning for managing and controlling wastes, operations, and quality of product, respectively. It is perceived that lean especially focus is to recognize the several wastes, produced by miscellaneous organizational practices in premise of Industry 4.0. On the other hand, green assists the managers to map the environmental practices/consequences. The present research focuses attention on ‘greening' through life cycle assessment to fill this gap and to assess the environmental impacts of the generated waste. Nevertheless, lean and green when conjoined become enabling to identify the waste and evaluate environmental impact but both encompass no motive to reduce the enhanced quality of product and reducing micro level wastes. Six-sigma is exhibited as the preeminent methods in order to overcome the determined gaps in present research work.

This paper introduces the field monitoring results of the connection earth dam in Chaozhou water supply pivot project. In this project, magnetic lamination-settlement measuring instrument, which is installed 3 ones in four sections each, is used to measure the settlement of the Xixi earth dam. Based on the analysis of monitoring data and simplified calculation, we get some useful conclusions. The magnetic lamination-settlement measuring instrument can directly measure the absolute value of deformation without the need to correct, calculate or measure benchmark. It’s more accurate than pipe type settlement instrument. In connection earth dam, conjoined mixing pile for resisting slippery has an effect of constraint and anti-seepage on the dam, which has played a good effect of controlling the dam settlement and the settlement difference between the ship lock and the connection earth dam. Vertical displacement of earth dam is very sensitive to the influence of factors such as water level. Settlement value of earth dam during operation is about 10.6%~38.7% of total settlement and settlement value of the head bay in ship lock during the operation is about 11.4% ~ 23.8% of total settlement.

We propose a model of position and attitude parameters distribution at the end of specimens based on multimode elastic driving adaptive control method to achieve feature decomposition and error compensation correction of the attitude transformation of the specimen seat. The isolated forest algorithm was employed for abnormal processing of detection signals, non-small features were removed based on variable-scale morphological filtering algorithm, the trace curve profiles were extracted using the multiscale registration framework, and the square speed function optimization elastic shape metric algorithm was used to map the profiles into an embedding. Afterwards, a parametric shared conjoined triple deep learning model suitable for feature tracing and optimization of triplet selection and data augmentation strategies is proposed. This system is trained by minimizing a triplet loss function so that a similarity measure is defined by the L2 distance in this embedding. ABSTRACTIntroduction:Virtual reality in the form of simulated driving is a useful tool for studying the brain. Various clinical questions can be addressed, including both the role of alcohol as a modulator of brain function and regional brain activation related to elements of driving. Objective:We reviewed a study of the neural correlates of alcohol intoxication through the use of a simulated-driving paradigm and wished to demonstrate the utility of recording continuous-driving behavior through a new study using a programmable driving simulator developed at our center. Methods:Functional magnetic resonance imaging data was collected from subjects while operating a driving simulator. Independent component analysis (ICA) was used to analyze the data. Specific brain regions modulated by alcohol, and relationships between behavior, brain function, and alcohol blood levels were examined with aggregate behavioral measures. Fifteen driving epochs taken from two subjects while also recording continuously recorded driving variables were analyzed with ICA.Results:Preliminary findings reveal that four independent components correlate with various aspects of behavior. An increase in braking while driving was found to increase activation in motor areas, while cerebellar areas showed signal increases during steering maintenance, yet signal decreases during steering changes. Additional components and significant findings are further outlined. Conclusion:In summary, continuous behavioral variables conjoined with ICA may offer new insight into the neural correlates of complex human behavior.

Abstract:
This paper examines the syntax of sentential conjunction in the Yoruba language with the view of ascertaining the actual syntactic function of sì on which opinions have been polarized in the syntax of Yoruba grammar. This paper argues that the Yoruba language has a sentential/clausal conjunction element but its structural position is not the between the two clauses. The researcher conducted a series of structured interviews and also consulted existing works targeting the sì in compound clauses so as to generate the data for the research. The research adopts the Minimalist Program (MP) as its theoretical tool for the analyses presented in the article. MP views syntactic derivations as resulting from computational systems whose operations are based on operation Select and operation Merge. Syntactic structures are built in a par-wise fashion from bottom to top by putting two items together at a time. The research shows that there are three different sì in Yoruba occurring in seemingly similar environment but they are performing different syntactic functions. One sì denotes “emphasis” as a preverbal element; the second one denotes “consecutiveness of action” while the third one performs the function of sentential/clausal conjunction, an overt realization of the in the second clause. The overtly marked sentential/clausal conjunction also has a variant, which is an abstract realization between the two conjoined clauses.

Abstract:
Abstract A key parameter in received classifications of language types is the expression of pronominal subjects. Here we compare variation patterns in conversational data of English – considered a non-null-subject language – and Spanish – a well-studied null-subject language. English has a patently lower rate of expression (approximately 3% unexpressed 1sg and 3sg human subjects vs. 60% in Spanish). Despite the stark difference in rate of expression, the same probabilistic constraints are at work in the two languages. Contrary to popular belief, VP coordination is neither a discrete nor a distinguishing category of English. Instead, a shared constraint is linking with the preceding subject, a refinement of accessibility to include, alongside coreferentiality, measures of structural connectedness – both prosodic and syntactic. Other shared constraints on unexpressed subjects are coreferential subject priming (a tendency to repeat the form of the previous mention) and lexical aspect (reflecting the contribution of a temporal relationship to subject expression). Where the languages most differ is in the envelope of variation. In English, besides coreferential-subject verbs conjoined with a coordinating conjunction, unexpressed subjects are limited to prosodic initial-position in declarative main clauses, a restriction that is absent in Spanish. We propose that the locus of cross-language comparisons is the variable structure of each language, defined by the set of probabilistic constraints but also the delimitation of the variable context within which these are operative.

Abstract:
Contemporary Australian drug policy is characterized by a tension between punitive law and order responses that invoke the myth of sovereign power and responsibilizing strategies that “(re)moralize” individuals, holding them responsible for their safety, security, and well-being. This article argues that this blending of neoliberal techniques of governance, such as harm minimization, with neoconservative methods of rule typified in prohibitionist policies, presents a paradoxical policy response to illicit drug use. We explore the development and contemporary practice of a dualistic Australian drug policy that, on the one hand, promotes pragmatic interventions based on harm reduction while, on the other, relies on law and order strategies and traditional penal powers to deter illicit drug use. Drawing on Pat Carlen’s concept of imaginary penalities, we argue that this imaginary form of drug control is underpinned largely by symbolic measures that, in attempting to address public demands for safety and security, reproduce a punitive form of governance that fails to achieve its desired outcomes. Using qualitative interview data from a sample of 29 people who used drugs, and 15 professionals working in the drugs field, this article investigates responses to the contemporary governance of illicit drugs in Queensland. Based on the research findings, we argue that the conjoined nature of Australian drugs governance can be understood as imaginary drug control because it constantly recreates the conditions that perpetuate drug-related harm.

Abstract:
Introduction: To estimate the prevalence and pattern of congenital anomalies through obstetric ultrasound on pregnant women visiting Rapti sub-regional hospital, Ghorahi, Dang, Nepal. Methods: A descriptive cross sectional study was conducted among 10,380 pregnant women visiting Radiology department of Rapti sub-regional hospital from January 2016 to July 2017. The findings of transabdominal ultrasonography (USG) performed by Radiologist and information regarding women’sage and gestational age were recorded. The images of any significant cases were also saved. Data wereanalyzed based on study objectives using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, rangeand standard deviation. The classification of the malformation was done based on the anatomical system. Results: Out of 10,380 ultrasound performed during the study period, 106 (1.02%) pregnant women presented with different congenital anomalies. The antenatal prevalence of congenital anomalies was 10.21 per 1000 pregnant women. The mean maternal age was 25.9 ± 4.80 years. Regarding gestation age, 87 (82.1%) anomalies were detected at second trimester of pregnancy. Most commonly involved body system was central nervous system 51 (48.1%), followed by cardiovascular system 12 (11.3%), musculoskeletal system 10 (9.4%), gastrointestinal system 5 (4.7%), respiratory system 5 (4.7%), genitourinary system 4 (3.8%). Other anomalies were cystic hygroma 9 (8.4%), hydrops fetalis 4 (3.8%), cleft lip 3 (2.8%), pelvic cystic lesion 2 (1.8%) and conjoined twins 1 (0.9%). Conclusion: The prevalence of congenital anomalies is high in mid-western part of Nepal. Central nervous system anomalies were more common than other anomalies.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper examines a special pattern of tautological constructions – a is a and b is b – in Spanish and Russian. The phenomenon was first described by A. Wierzbicka, who cited Rudyard Kipling’s “East is East and West and West,” referring to it as “double tautologies” with the associated meaning of “irreducible difference.” Later, J. Meibauer called this pattern “coordinated tautologies” (CT) and suggested that they carry the implicature that “the referents of the respective subject NPs should be kept distinct, should not be confused, etc.” In the present study, we address the issue of compositionality in the construction and interpretation of CT. The data taken from Spanish and Russian corpora listed in the appendix and an Internet survey conducted with 91 native Spanish speakers prove that “irreducible difference” is not a necessary ingredient in the interpretation of and-conjoined tautologies, nor is it its only argumentative point. We also argue that “irreducible difference” is not associated with this pattern alone (it can also appear in tautologies linked by the conjunction but, or without any conjunction) and that the exact number of conjuncts is not limited to two. Later, we discuss how exactly the frequent contrastive interpretation arises. Finally, we conclude that coordinated tautologies are not fixed form/function pairs; rather, the meaning they encode can be accounted for in regular compositional terms, and their different interpretations are the result of pragmatic enrichment in which the encoded meaning is combined with contextual information.

Abstract:
Abstract In this article we provide a practical demonstration of how syntactically annotated corpora (treebanks), particularly the English Historical Parsed Corpora Series, can be used to investigate research questions with a diachronic depth and synchronic breadth that would not otherwise be possible. The phenomenon under investigation is split coordination, in which two parts of a conjoined constituent appear separated in the clause (e.g., and this is where my aunt lives and my uncle ). It affects every type of coordinated constituent (subject/object DPs, predicate and attributive ADJPs, ADVPs, PPs and DP objects of P) in Old English (OE); and it, or a superficially similar construction, occurs continuously throughout the attested period from approximately 800 to the present day. Despite its synchronic range and diachronic persistence, split coordination has received surprisingly little attention in the diachronic literature, with the exception of Perez Lorido’s (2009) limited study of split subjects in eight OE texts. Its modern counterpart is most frequently analysed as Bare Argument Ellipsis (BAE). Although the OE and Present-Day English constructions appear superficially similar, we show that not all of the OE data is amenable to a BAE analysis. We bring to bear different types of evidence (structural, discourse/performance effects, rate of change, etc.) to argue that split coordination in fact represents two different constructions, one of which remains stable over time while the other is lost in the post-Middle English period.

Abstract:
So-called respectively readings have posed serious challenges for theories of syntax and semantics. Sentences likeGeorge and Martha respectively denounced and were denounced by the governor(McCawley 1998) show that although the conjoined verbal expressions share the same syntactic subject, they do not predicate that subject in the same way; George (not Martha) denounced the governor, and Martha (but not George) was denounced by the governor. Postal (1998: 160–163) and Gawron & Kehler (2004: 193–194) show that this phenomenon poses problems for contemporary theories of grammar and argue that it is particularly acute for theories where subcategorization and predication are linked via unification. As these authors note, the problem is even more severe in respectively readings involving filler–gap constructions. In this paper I argue that the severity of these problems has been overstated and that the data do not entail any special dissociation between predication, subcategorization, or extraction. In this paper I propose an account which is fully compatible with unification-based theories of grammar. Gawron & Kehler (2004) propose an account of respectively phenomena which covers a remarkably wide range of cases. That approach relies on aRespfoperator, which it stipulated to be optionally overt. However, I argue that this analysis is problematic because there are significant semantic differences between respectively readings with and without an overt realization of ‘respectively’. Rather, the data suggest that respectively readings may be special cases of more general phenomena which happen to create interpretations that are compatible with the semantics of the adverbrespectively. This explains why respectively readings can arise without the adverb, and does not require us to posit a disconnect between predication and subcategorization. In fact, a sentence with a respectively reading will not differ in syntactic or semantic structure from sentences without such a reading.

Abstract:
The prevalence of twinning and higher order multiple births is high and is increasing in many countries, due at least in part to fertility-enhancing medical therapies. About 1 in 40-45 births is a twin; it is thus important to investigate whether the twinning status confers a higher risk for morbidity and mortality, particularly early in life. Birth defects are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the pediatric age-group. The purpose of this review is to consider the evidence for an increased risk of some birth defects associated with twinning, using data from the literature and the Italian Multicentre Birth Defects Registry (IPIMC), to illustrate some of the challenging aspects of the study of birth defects in twins, and to suggest some guidelines for future investigations.Twins are a heterogeneous group. They may differ in origin and genetic similarity, as for monozygotic (MZ) and dizygotic (DZ) twins; and in placentation (monochorial monoamniotic, monochorial diamniotic, dichorial with separate or fused placentae). Likewise, birth defects are known to be heterogeneous in presentation, pathogenesis, and etiology. Thus, the question raised here is not whether or not birth defects ‘in general’ are more common in twins, but rather whether or not there are any specific types of defects that are more frequent among specific types of twins. To maintain the generality of the discussion, this review will focus on those structural defects which are not unique to twins; conjoined twins and arcadia, defects which are unique to the twinning process, will not be discussed.
