Full textThis doctoral thesis focuses on the psychological and identity trajectories of adolescents and post-adolescents affected by the phenomenon of radicalization. The main objective of this thesis is to refine and broaden our understanding of the complex dynamics and individual and collective vulnerabilities that underlie the phenomenon of radicalization among adolescents and post-adolescents. The research is based on a psychodynamic approach that seeks to explore both individual and contextual aspects, shedding light on the multidimensional complexity of radicalization. The research methodology integrates three distinct qualitative studies to gather diverse perspectives. All studies were conducted using semi-structured interviews. The first study includes a thematic analysis of the trajectories of young individuals affected by the radicalization phenomenon and their families' perspectives on it. The second study focuses on the thematic analysis of the discourse of professionals confronted with the phenomenon of radicalization in their daily work. This study aims to enhance the overall understanding of radicalization. The last study reports an in-depth case study analysis of the journey of a young individual affected by radicalization. This study allows a more precise exploration of the underlying psychological, social, and identity dynamics, providing insights into the unseen forces that can push an individual towards radical paths. The results of this research show a link between the crisis of authority and the phenomenon of radicalization. They highlight that the radicalization of adolescents and post-adolescents goes beyond mere adherence to an extreme ideology; it is also a revealing symptom of deep vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities are tied to societal, familial, and individual dynamics characterized by a symbolic deficiency and a crisis of authority. The findings emphasize the need to rethink the structures of authority, taking into account the impact of transgenerational traumas and prompting deep reflection on the potential influence of media in the alienation of young people. It is a call for empathy, ethics, humanity, dialogue, and a critical and constructive analysis of the unseen forces shaping young people's identification in our hypermodern society

Full textThe aim of this thesis was to better understand the skip that allows peers to solve interpersonal conflicts. Two studies have been done in several primary schools, secondary schools and junior high school. Three hundred and twenty-one children and adolescents participated to individual interviews on the comparison between ordinary conflicts and important conflicts. And four hundred sixty-three participated to self report for questionaries on the skips to negociate conflicts. Results show that differences exist between characteristics of ordinary conflicts and important conflicts ; we also found differences between the topics of these conflicts. Links between temperament and interpersonal negotiation strategies are not obvious, neither is the developmental aspect of these strategies. But links exist between reputation, the type of relationships between people and the choice of the interpersonal negotiation strategy

Full textIn order for preventative action to be taken on the alcohol risk that endangers many adolescents, we must first define the dangers that put this age group at risk. Under these conditions, it would not be coherent to highlight this age group as a privileged target for parties involved in prevention given that alcoholism and its installation is not proved as being a potential risk. Henceforth, our comments will focus on risk reduction policies. Alcoholism is a particularly misleading process that can take a hold of subject well before any eventual alcoholic illness sets in. Whereas it is not widely accepted that alcoholism in adolescents leads to alcoholic illness, this is no doubt because the representation of alcoholism and the alcoholic subject requires serious and honest questioning. This research proposes a new educational intervention tool that will enable adolescents to question their relationship to alcohol above and beyond traditional rites of passage or festive experiences

Full textThe thesis is based on an analysis of the representations, the values and the models of adolescence. And also of the representations made by the adults about the adolescents. This work is based empirically on 3 studies made at 3 differents periods in the time of one generation: the first one made in 1960, directed by e. Morin, ask to a national sample of adolescents to define and to explain their values and models from their preferentials choices of characters chosen in differents registers (litterature, cinema, medias, history and also their family circles). The 2nd study do the same ten years after to investigate on "the generation of may 68". The purpose is to understand progressively the evolution of models, values and attitudes. The third study (1975-78) try the same through individuals and collectives interviews; and it is a third stage in the time. Our "problematic" is: to study adolescence from its representations of figures that can made identifications for it permit to precise its values, attitudes, models and aspirations, its choices about politics or society, its culturals practices; the work, adding anthropology and psychoanalysis to sociolo gy define concepts: adolescence, socials representations, identification

Full textThis thesis studies the reactions, representations and affects caused by the practices of self-injury by adolescents hospitalized in psychiatry. It is based on a critical and historical analysis of the psychiatric and psychoanalytical literature and on a 9-month ethnographic field study in a psychiatric unit of long term hospitalization. During this field study, 36 non-directive research interviews have been conducted with caregivers, patients and the parents of these patients. These interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed according to the methodology of the grounded theory. The representation of self-injuring patients in the scientific literature is very similar to the feelings expressed by caregivers confronted with self-injury and revolves around four main notions: trauma, deficit, control and aggression. Rather than locating the origin of the feelings triggered by self-injury only within the patients (a psychological perspective), or only within the caregivers (a sociological perspective), this study shows that these feelings are aroused by the encounter between an adolescent and a caregiver around the self-injury.When it is not limited to a disembodied repetition, this encounter induces in all the protagonists back an ambivalent desire of body plasticity at the intrapsychic level and an intimate, perfect and preverbal communication at the intersubjective level. Nevertheless, at the same time, the clinical scene of the self-injury recalls the deficiency and the alterity of each of the protagonists and, above all, the failure, frightening and necessary, of the Nebenmensch (near human being).Faced with the intrapsychic and intersubjective wavering provoked by the scarification, both in the adolescent and in the supposed caregiver, it is the existence of reflective and debating spaces and the capacity to show oneself as "defective enough", much more than the belief in a universal and deficient etiology, that allows the clinical encounter to become a field of (inter)subjective construction rather than a terrain of struggle, of control and normative subjugation

Full textThe thesis examines teenagers sexual reliationships taking into account processes of normative and micro-social regulation of sexual experience. This form of social control is exerted through the exchange of stories rather than by explicit prescriptions or proscriptions. Stories exchanged within the peer group constitute normative references which represent a plurality of possible evolutions for sexual relationships, and focus on questions of "timing". From the perspective of social representation theory, the research describes patterns of temporal organisation of relationships as being embedded in social narrative (re)constructions. In the first part of the thesis, we considere the applications of "stories of reference" in the context of aids prevention and estimation of partnership sequences. In the second part, we examine the role of temporality in the study of interpersonal relationships, and propose to include in this domain a form of social thought which manifests itself as narrative. The third part presents a multi-methodological approach associating quantitative and qualitative research. We first propose the analysis of "relationship history calendars" collected from a national representative sample of youth from ages 15-18 in France (N=6182). Then a qualitative development of results is undertaken through a two phase biographical interview based on relationship histories. Results show 6 configurations of temporal organisation of teenagers sexual relationships. These quantitative observations are associated with specific socially constructed "plots". "Stories of reference" also function as normative clarifications of ambiguous sentiments and situations. They are referred to in order to objectify subjective dimensions of relationship experience according to socially shared temporal frameworks, thus allowing one's own experience to become communicable and even commensurable with the experience of others

Full textThis work aims to shed light on the reasons for youths living in urban and rural Cameroon, not protecting themselves against HIV/AIDS. It explains how these well informed young people, at times paradoxically behave in a context of misunderstandings, or carry out practices that go against HIV/AIDS protection and prevention values they support. In-depth interviews, focus groups discussions and observations were conducted with young men and women aged 15-24 years. In addition to the fieldwork, data from the Cameroonian Demographic and Health Survey (2004) were used as macro indicators. Research results indicate that their exposure to the AIDS pandemic has to do particularly with, among other factors, having more than one sexual partner, not using preventive methods (full-contact), or not using them on a regular basis; ignoring one's serologic status and that of the partner. These risky practices rely on several types of logic, which are mutually inclusive:'cultural logic, logic of interactions, and economic logic. When risky behaviours, adopted by these youths go against the strong values of fidelity and protection to which they subscribe, they then make use of rationalization in order to solve the contradiction. In this attempt, several techniques are used (selecting information, explaining by using contingent features, denying, playing down the risk, etc. ). The locus of control, which is constructed among the majority of these youths in terms of exteriority, pushes them to underestimate the role of the social actor in prevention. The belief in Conspiracy theory, good luck, bad luck, God, fate, witchcraft, ancestral vengeance and punishment, strong blood, cheap condoms, become so many uncontrollable powers, which intervene in their lives and expose or protect them against evil and/or HIV AIDS. Perceived externally, these beliefs seem irrational. However, they make sense for its followers
