Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract: As the century begins, the conflict between cultures travels over the world map like a meridian on fire. On the one hand, this conflict seems like an escape valve for the old class conflicts and, on the othel; it carries within a new destructive potential that cannot be explained with the help of the traditional instruments ofthe social sciences. The intercultural dialogue expands in theform ofan interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary forum that attempts to build new theoretical and practical instruments in favour of peacefor this mankind that coexists in such a tense universal community. Having reflected on the fundamental conditionsfor the intercultural dialogue, the Author, inspired by mystics such as Nicolau of Cusa and Master Eckhart, proposes the paradigm of "diffaentiated and articulated concomitance" that rescues the silence existing between words and the mystery in disenchantment, keeping in the historical reco'ds the memory of all history and in thepartiality ofeach cultuæ the hopes ofall cultures.

Abstract:
This research falls within the field of French as a Foreign Language (FFL) didactics and follows the line of research on interculturality and act of teaching. It specifically aims to understand the phenomenon of intercultural conflicts and how these conflicts are managed by Egyptian teachers. It also seeks to question the teacher's perception of intercultural conflicts, particularly their ethical preoccupations, related to their actions, responsibility, and duty. Teachers are facing conflictual situations and intercultural misunderstandings, and they are exposed to a conflictual reality that requires action guided by intercultural values. What are teacher's representations of interculturality and intercultural conflicts? What are teacher's ethical concerns regarding intercultural conflict? How do they manage intercultural conflict and what values guide their actions? Our research proposes an approach that foregrounds the words of ten FLE teachers working at the French Institute in Egypt. In order to do so, we have constructed a research framework that provides teachers with a discursive space where they can express themselves on intercultural conflicts, their ethical concerns, and their teaching actions. This framework is primarily based on two research tools: semi-directive interviews and intercultural conflict case study meetings. These tools allow teachers to talk about their experiences and be engaged in reflective activities on their own actions. The study of the data has revealed what do teachers think about intercultural conflicts, what their ethical concerns are, and what their actions are in these situations

Abstract:
In a context of internationalization of large retailers and increased exchanges between companies from diverse countries and cultures, the issue of mutual adjustment between local suppliers in host countries and foreign retailers is essential. This research focuses on this issue. We analyze conflict and adjustment mechanisms between retailers and suppliers in the host country, in the case of Vietnam. Our analysis outlines the determinants and consequences of conflict on the satisfaction of stakeholders, considering culture as a key variable. Four theoretical fields have been mobilized: behavioral theories in the distribution channel, contract, culture and market orientation theories. A quantitative study was conducted to test the hypothesis of our dyadic model. The results indicate that the culture organizational remains a key variable in explaining conflict, its determinants, methods of resolution and impact on stakeholders’ satisfaction

Abstract:
Contextualized schooling and in mother tongue is essential for the socioeconomic and cultural development of indigenous communities in Honduras. But the Intercultural Bilingual Education project currently implemented, already adopted by other countries and for other communities, is it really adapted for the specific needs of the indigenous children in Honduras? To answer this question, we have designed a research plan based on two indigenous communities: the Ch’orti’ and the Misquito communities. Our empirical and complex corpus consists of two filmed classes, pictures from a student’s notebook, interviews with members of both indigenous communities and official and pedagogical documents which guide the project’s implementation. Its analysis allows us to accentuate the cultural differences and those of the sociolinguistic situations of these communities and to show that these elements are partially taken in account when creating the schooling instruments. It also appears that language and culture contacts, treated precisely, could contribute to the revitalization, linguistic recuperation and to the indigenous identity construction. It could also open an effective intercultural dialogue for the future. Finally, we conclude by stating that if this Intercultural Bilingual Education project is not the origin of indigenous language revitalization and recuperation, it could nevertheless influence, under certain conditions, positively over them. Our research, of sociodidactic nature, reveals that the actions and initiatives undertaken by the stakeholders for the indigenous children’s education is not entirely adapted to their sociolinguistic, cultural and pedagogical needs. It leads to some perspectives for the implementation of contextualized pedagogical strategies and a better acknowledgement and valorization of the linguistic and cultural diversity of these communities

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to obtain cross-cultural insights into the family dynamics of Korean-Canadians during their transitions as immigrants, by asking six Korean-Canadian mothers about the family conflicts they had with their children, that were of an intercultural nature. The methodology consisted of a qualitative research design, informed by a post-positivist epistemological viewpoint. In semi-structured interviews, six Korean-Canadian mothers spoke at length about what triggered their Intercultural-Intergenerational conflict with their adolescent children, about how they responded to such conflicts, and about how they saw these conflicts in terms of their children’s cultural adaptation/identity. Audiotapes of the interviews were transcribed, then coded and categorized according to principles of thematic analysis and grounded theory. To ensure authenticity, reflexivity was built into all stages of the research. From the categories analyzed, there emerged six general triggers of conflict, (such as the adolescents’ style of communicating with their mothers, or the mothers’ attitudes to their children’s “culture shedding”); five general ways in which the mothers tended to respond to conflict (from emotional outbursts to attempts at adjusting); and three measures of what, for the mothers, constituted satisfactory adaptation, by the children, to the host culture (success in school, retention of Korean identity, and the ability to cope with any racism that they might encounter). The study concludes with some suggestions for a more sophisticated social work praxis, and for service provision that reaches beyond a purely economic understanding of immigrants’ problems, as the findings speak to a high degree of complexity in a shifting immigrant demographic.

Abstract:
This thesis explored the communication and conflict style contrasts between criminal justice professionals and African American defendants that can interfere with the equitable administration of justice in the criminal justice system in Dane County, Wisconsin. The focus of this research was on the potential conflict style contrasts between criminal justice professionals and African Americans because the racial disparity in the incarceration rate was greatest for African Americans. This research project began from the premise that the racial incarceration rate disparity was caused in part by differences in cultural conflict and communication styles, and it explored the intersection of power differentials and cultural conflict and communication style differentials. The study employed the Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory, courtroom observations, and two focus groups. One focus group was composed of professionals in the criminal justice system from Dane County, Wisconsin, and the other of African Americans who have been impacted negatively by this system. All findings were used to develop specific training recommendations to help criminal justice professionals to understand conflict and communication style preferences with the intention of decreasing the disparate treatment of members of the African American community. The combined research strategies suggested that the primary culture of the criminal justice system was consistent with European American cultural preferences for low-context, direct, and emotionally restrained communication and conflict styles, which contrasts with the general preference of the African American culture for a more emotionally expressive engagement style. While this research did not specifically indicate that intercultural miscommunication directly impacts the equitable distribution of justice in Dane County, it did suggest that cultural contrasts may be one variable contributing to the inequitable distribution of justice.

Abstract:
The present work proposes to account for cultural variability in connection to human family organization, through Darwin’s theories of natural selection and sexual selection. It is also founded on evidence based on the comparison of ethnographic data of diverse human societies. It intends to demonstrate that there is a significant alteration in the behavior of family members when the rules of inheritance of wealth change. These alterations are triggered because the rules of inheritance dictate the MPI – Male Parental Investment – sometimes in the nephew and sometimes in the son. The hypothesis is that this variation in MPI (male investment in either the nephew or the son) modifies family relations in matrilineal and patrilineal organizations in a predictable manner. The role played by MPI in determining family tensions will be shown by applying cross cultural analysis to the data obtained from HRAF (Human Relations Area Files), using PSF (Probability Sample Files). The results of the present work show that societies in which the uncle’s relation with his nephew is affectionate, the husband beats the wife; on the other hand, when the father’s relation with his son is indulgent and friendly, brother and sister avoid each other. This variability of behavior can be coherently explained by sociobiological theory. Cultural wealth: the innumerable customs, the traditions, the taboos, the manifest and hidden norms, the apparatus of coercion, the rules of inheritance, marriage, dowry, bride price, the division of labor, in short, all the rules observed in all human groups can be explained in the light of the following theories: a) ‘kinship selection’ (Hamilton, 1963); b) ‘reciprocal altruism’ (Trivers, 1971; Axelrod, 1981); c) ‘parental investment and sexual selection’ (Trivers, 1972); and d) ‘parentoffspring conflict’ (Trivers, 1974).

Abstract:
The Millennial Generation is a young generation now required to effectively and efficiently navigate the cultural diversity that they encounter in various group settings throughout the United States. Research has examined conflict management styles and intercultural sensitivity, but few studies have investigated these two concepts specifically within the Millennial Generation. The purpose of this study is to fill the gap that exists in the current literature through an examination of the relationship between intercultural sensitivity and conflict management styles within the Millennial Generation in a hypothetical intercultural group setting. The results from 221 participants indicate that positive and negative relationships exist among the dimensions of intercultural sensitivity and conflict management styles, Millennials show a preference for conflict management styles that reflect a concern for self, and Millennials report high Interaction Confidence and low Respect for Cultural Difference. Limitations and directions for future research are also discussed.

Abstract:
This paper aims to examine the challenges of cross-cultural communication in multicultural teams and the resolution of conflicts arising during that process of communication. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on individuals coming from various cultural backgrounds to determine how cultural differences affect the organizational communication styles, their perception of conflict situations and the choice of conflict resolution procedures. The study is underpinned by a literature review of cross-cultural communication and theories on culture, conflict resolution and multicultural team dynamics. Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions Theory will be used to define the cultural differences using four dimensions: power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism vs collectivism, and masculinity vs femininity. The outcome of the study assesses the intercultural communication competence of employees in North Macedonia and gives recommendations on how to improve communication and avoid conflicts that plague multicultural teams.

Abstract:
The research paper identifies the causes of intercultural communication conflicts in foreign language learning and proposes solutions. The author employed a qualitative research approach, including comparative analysis, investigation, and solution-oriented proposals. Through these methods, the study revealed cultural differences in intercultural communication between Western and Eastern cultures. These differences manifest in perceptions of objects and worldviews, cultural aspects in daily communication, such as differences in eloquence, perceptions of time, etiquette and gift-giving, table manners, forms of address, humor, and concepts of privacy. The study recommends the elimination of cultural biases and prejudices and puts forth principles to help teachers and learners manage intercultural communication conflicts in foreign language learning. These principles include fair and objective communication, seeking common ground while respecting differences, adapting to situations, and respecting cultural knowledge while avoiding hasty judgments. The study also suggests measures to address intercultural communication conflicts in teaching, such as developing learners' intercultural communication skills, enhancing intercultural communication competence, cultivating a multicultural perspective, improving individual cultural quality, stimulating learners' interest in culture, increasing learners' awareness of conscious cultural usage, and creating a multicultural communication environment in the classroom.

Abstract:
The present and the future of modern didactics are inextricably linked to interculturality. Cultural diversity and intercultural communication are „beneficial opportunities for coexistence in an age and in an increasingly open world, where the highest, strongest walls of isolation have collapsed‖”. Interculturality, as its „ruler‖” of practical life, including school life, characterizes social and personal behavior. Respectively, the coexistence of members of a group or a community in an environment guided by intercultural norms and their collaboration in establishing and developing a non-conflict climate become institutional values of interpersonal relationships.

Abstract:
Because refugees come from different regions with their own cultural, religious, linguistic practices, the new social culture of the host country may conflict with their home culture, causing tensions between those communities and language barriers between individuals or groups, which raises the issue of intercultural communication. mainly in front of social assistance professionals. In order to have a smooth communication - without obstacles - a common language is needed. But "language" does not just mean vocabulary, it also implies specific rules for organizing speech, as well as a certain meaning assigned to words.

Abstract:
The paper raises an actual issue of the mechanisms for foreign students’ socio-cultural adaptation in modern conditions of education in the Russian Federation, as a measure to counter extremism. The authors analyze the results of their own sociological research conducted among foreign students of Volgograd State University. Based on the data obtained, the authors came to the conclusion that properly developed mechanisms of foreign students’ socio-cultural adaptation to new living conditions positively affects the quality and quantity of students’ knowledge, skills and abilities. Moreover, integration of foreign and Russian students is essential, but the emphasis in educational field should take into the account foreign students’ socio-cultural specifics. A student can show high rates of entry into the proposed socio-cultural environment, acceptance of attitudes, values, norms of the host country. In order to conduct a competent policy of intercultural interaction, it is necessary to create a clear program for the prevention of interethnic conflicts and extremism among students.

Abstract:
The Maria Sibylla Merian International Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences Conviviality-Inequality in Latin America (Mecila) will study past and present forms of social, political, religious and cultural conviviality, above all in Latin America and the Caribbean while also considering comparisons and interdependencies between this region and other parts of the world. Conviviality, for the purpose of Mecila, is an analytical concept to circumscribe ways of living together in concrete contexts. Therefore, conviviality admits gradations – from more horizontal forms to highly asymmetrical convivial models. By linking studies about interclass, interethnic, intercultural, interreligious and gender relations in Latin America and the Caribbean with international studies about conviviality, Mecila strives to establish an innovative exchange with benefits for both European and Latin American research. The focus on convivial contexts in Latin America and the Caribbean broadens the horizon of conviviality research, which is often limited to the contemporary European context. By establishing a link to research on conviviality, studies related to Latin America gain visibility, influence and impact given the political and analytical urgency that accompanies discussions about coexistence with differences in European and North American societies, which are currently confronted with increasing socioeconomic and power inequalities and intercultural and interreligious conflicts.
