Hammoud, Khodor. "Trust in online data : privacy in text, and semantic-based author verification in micro-messages." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Université Paris Cité, 2021. http://www.theses.fr/2021UNIP5203.
Full textMany Problems surround the spread and use of data on social media. There is a need to promote trust on social platforms, regarding the sharing and consumption of data. Data online is mostly in textual form which poses challenges for automation solutions because of the richness of natural language. In addition, the use of micro-messages as the main means of communication on social media makes the problem much more challenging because of the scarceness of features to analyze per body of text. Our experiments show that data anonymity solutions cannot preserve user anonymity without sacrificing data quality. In addition, in the field of author verification, which is the problem of determining if a body of text was written by a specific person or not, given a set of documents known to be authored by them, we found a lack of research working with micro-messages. We also noticed that the state-of-the-art does not take text semantics into consideration, making them vulnerable to impersonation attacks. Motivated by these findings, we devote this thesis to tackle the tasks of (1) identifying the current problems with user data anonymity in text, and provide an initial novel semantic-based approach to tackle this problem, (2) study author verification in micro-messages and identify the challenges in this field, and develop a novel semantics-based approach to solve these challenges, and (3) study the effect of including semantics in handling manipulation attacks, and the temporal effect of data, where the authors might have changing opinions over time. The first part of the thesis focuses on user anonymity in textual data, with the aim to anonymize personal information from online user data for safe data analysis without compromising users’ privacy. We present an initial novel semantic-based approach, which can be customized to balance between preserving data quality and maximizing user anonymity depending on the application at hand. In the second part, we study author verification in micro-messages on social media. We confirm the lack of research in author verification on micro-messages, and we show that the state-of-the-art, which primarily handles long and medium-sized texts, does not perform well when applied on micro-messages. Then we present a semantics-based novel approach which uses word embeddings and sentiment analysis to collect the author’s opinion history to determine the correctness of the claim of authorship, and show its competitive performance on micro-messages. We use these results in the third part of the thesis to further improve upon our approach. We construct a dataset consisting of the tweets of the 88 most followed twitter influencers. We use it to show that the state-of-the-art is not able to handle impersonation attacks, where the content of a tweet is altered, changing the message behind the tweet, while the writing pattern is preserved. On the other hand, since our approach is aware of the text’s semantics, it is able to detect text manipulations with an accuracy above 90%. And in the fourth part of the thesis, we analyze the temporal effect of data on our approach for author verification. We study the change of authors’ opinions over time, and how to accommodate for that in our approach. We study trends of sentiments of an author per a specific topic over a period of time, and predict false authorship claims depending on what timeframe does the claim of authorship fall in

Full textThe work of a. S. Byatt (born 1938) has been surprisingly neglected by many studies of the contemporary british novel. This thesis constitutes the first full-length study of her fiction. I have concentrated on the self- reflexive processes used by byatt, particularly tne intertextual and the intratextual, which are examined in order to establish a poetics of byatt's work, and to situate this in the postmodern ethic and esthetic. Byatt multiplies diegetic levels, includes the mise en abyme of the writing character, uses a wide range of inserted texts, real and fictional, and invents new hybrid forms, making a particular feature of brilliant neo- victorian pastiche in possession her most acclaimed work. The thesis falls into 3 parts, corresponding approximately to what have termed (1) canonic intertextuality, (2) forms of intertextuality other than the canonic (such as reference to the fairy tale or to the painting, which i have united by analysing their emblematic aspects in the novel), and (3) the degree of innovation in the deployment of the text in the text in byatt's most recent novel, babel tower. The structure of the thesis is thus roughly chronological, and follows the natural evolution of byatt's work. In each chapter i have begun at the hermeneutic level, establishing the relationship between the various levels of the text in order to elucidate the project of the work as a whole. This basic analysis is then rendered more complex and is completed by the study of what i have termed the 'double form', which consists of modes such as irony and parody, as well as rhetorical tropes such as metaphor and allegory, or - representing amn innovation - intersemiotic illustration

Often associated to childhood and described by children characters, they tally with a nostalgia for a natural world bathed in light and heat, with pure and shimmering colours. Adults tend to turn their backs on landscapes and go in for portraits which are influenced by expressionnist aesthetics. From a harmonious relation with nature, the human being shifts to a stage of conflict. The mastery of form consists in integrating portraits into landscapes thanks to post-impressionism. Full textThe ultimate objective of this work is to analyse how to put together a dissertation on the development of music in France since the classical period (with the creation of the opera) until the seventeen-fifties (period before the Querelle des Bouffons). This thesis is a study of the founding and development of aesthetics in musical appreciation of that period and its connection to aesthetics in literature and painting. The explosion of music and the beginning of criticism in music are examined as a social event and an object of historiography. Our study of music has been limited to opera and instrumental music. The texts which have been studied concern scientific and technical treatises of the Royal Academy of Sciences, theoretical works, works on aesthetics, private correspondance, dictionaries and some specialist publications on music

Full textWhat positioning does the Balzacian text attribute to its reader? At the crossroads between Wolfgang Iser and Umberto Eco's theories on reading, pragmatic approaches, and research on Balzac's poetics, we analyze the mechanisms created by Balzac to " build " his reader and encourage support and attention to the novel. Thus, we attempt to determine the role and freedom provided to the reader in La Comédie humaine. At the outset, we study the reader's positioning in prefaces and novels by focusing on poetic, narratologic and pragmatic approaches. We progressively cover a vast array of techniques used by Balzac, ranging from interpreting the basic " guardianship " of the reader to the unveiling of devices that make him the interpretative focal point required for the fictional efficiency. Besides, we examine the reading contracts established in Balzac's prefaces, as well as the evolution of the strategies implemented by the author to establish contact with his audience. Leaving the heart of the novels, we then concentrate on the architecture of La Comédie humaine. Our analysis, based on reception aesthetics, studies why 19th century readers experience difficulties in understanding Balzac's off-putting " macro-work ", and examines the effects created by the possible variations of its structure. Finally, we emphasize on the dynamism and movement inherent to the architecture of La Comédie humaine, by focusing on the novel and reader's navigation in Balzac's system. We examine, with a genetic perspective, the movement of certain novels in the ranking, as well as the various paths available to the reader to travel through La Comédie humaine

Full textThis work deals with the slow emergence of textual analysis known as "commentaire de texte" in the French school system, together with its official recognition as part of the baccalaureat exam. First considered as the mere explanation of e text (known as "explication de texte"), the "commentary" became progressively defined as a deeper reflection on texts where the intelligence and sensibility of the reader combine with his ability to analyse. . Its practice is marked by its history ; many possible approaches are found : the observation of various procedures, based upon a corpus of "commentaries" about one and the same text, enables one to have a diachronic view of phenomena and to analyse their historical, or even philosophical implications. Today, "commentary" work is an interlinking field of study in the French school system ; it appears in four different subjects, which necessitates a good cohesion as to its teaching according to common cognitive abilities. It is favoured by students and teachers alike, even though they would like modalities of its realization to be somewhat less strict. A reflection on the mistakes made and a diversification of the ways of teaching it contribute to a better definition of this exercise which is characteristic of our teaching

Full textWhat place can fiction have in a discourse which seems to have recourse to the trutb register of philosophy? This is the question of this thesis which thematizes philosophical discourse analysis (a current which has been developping in France since the early 1990s). The answer will have to go beyond an enumeration of illustrative and argumentative values of non-factual statetrients in speculative texts. It demands a broad vision of the concept of ficticn in the philosophical, linguistic, semantic and pragmatic tradition involving a detailed description of emblematic cases, In this thes Descares’s idealist discourse, Condillac’s sensualistic discourse and Merleau-Ponty pnenomenological discourse are subjected to a doser analysis. The fine-grained study of tex allows to consicer the specificity of the recourse to fiction as a philosophical mode of validation and to confront t with the practices of the other discursive fields in the entire realm of the humanities
CHENNAF, NAJIBAH. "Le texte du temps dans blanche ou l'oubli d'aragon." Paris 8, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997PA081206.
Full textIn blanche ou l'oubli by aragon, the textuality of time develops according to three lines : memory - the imaginary - forgetfulness. These lines run across temporal referents called " chronies " which constitute a sub-text. The time,/writing " chronie " elaborates on the relationship of writing and time - absence of writing/writing of absence ; loss of writing/writing of loss - deconstruction and reconstruction of time past, writing and death as well as wrirting and life. Autobiographical foundations, fiction, fantasy, culture, history, generate and are generated by an imaginary which paractises a kind of alchemy. The real and the imaginary are interwoven to the point of being confused, even to the point of being questioned. Aragon's historical dynamics is based on a utopian imaginary which is deconstructed by the law of entropy. Encountering such a utopia, based on incompletude makes engagement very painful. Memory and forgetfulness should also be considered in relation to their theatralisation which implies dialogue and confrontation between multiple types of memories. Through writing a foliated memorial space progressively constitues itsetf, where the " i " of the scriptor, as a kind of supra-memory, plays with the notion of forgetfulness, ricoheting upon itself. But forgetfulness should not be considered as a mere fault of memory. It may have several meanings extending from the assimilation of forgetfulness with death to its identification with motionless time. Aragon creates a new conceptual field. He defies linear logic and deconstructs its tools : identity principle, verisimilitude, binarism. The sub-text, foliating and knotting, polysemy, find their place in the deconstruction process which makes the novel into a " man-modifying machine

Full textOutsourcing corporate or individual data at a cloud provider, e.g. using Database-as-a-Service, is practical and cost-effective. But it introduces a major problem: how to preserve the privacy of the outsourced data, while supporting powerful user queries. A simple solution is to encrypt the data before it is outsourced. Then, to answer a query, the user client can retrieve the encrypted data from the cloud, decrypt it, and evaluate the query over plaintext (non encrypted) data. This solution is not practical, as it does not take advantage of the computing power provided by the cloud for evaluating queries. In this thesis, we consider an important kind of queries, top-k queries, and address the problem of privacy-preserving top-k query processing over encrypted data in the cloud.A top-k query allows the user to specify a number k, and the system returns the k tuples which are most relevant to the query. The relevance degree of tuples to the query is determined by a scoring function. We first propose a complete system, called BuckTop, that is able to efficiently evaluate top-k queries over encrypted data, without having to decrypt it in the cloud. BuckTop includes a top-k query processing algorithm that works on the encrypted data, stored at one cloud node, and returns a set that is proved to contain the encrypted data corresponding to the top-k results. It also comes with an efficient filtering algorithm that is executed in the cloud on encypted data and removes most of the false positives included in the set returned. When the outsourced data is big, it is typically partitioned over multiple nodes in a distributed system. For this case, we propose two new systems, called SDB-TOPK and SD-TOPK, that can evaluate top-k queries over encrypted distributed data without having to decrypt at the nodes where they are stored. In addition, SDB-TOPK and SD-TOPK have a powerful filtering algorithm that filters the false positives as much as possible in the nodes, and returns a small set of encrypted data that will be decrypted in the user side. We analyze the security of our system, and propose efficient strategies to enforce it.We validated our solutions through implementation of BuckTop , SDB-TOPK and SD-TOPK, and compared them to baseline approaches over synthetic and real databases. The results show excellent response time compared to baseline approaches. They also show the efficiency of our filtering algorithm that eliminates almost all false positives. Furthermore, our systems yieldsignificant reduction in communication cost between the distributed system nodes when computing the query result

Villiers de l'isle-adam recoursed at this process in the paratext : title, epigraph and dedication. We will analyse also the practice of intertextuality through quotation and allusion. The juxtaposition of subjects, themes and characters from various social backgrounds, links intertextuality with collage. The ambiguity and the bitter irony are underlined thanks to the study of various statement enunciation positions. The ambiguity and the irony also emerge from the stereotyped language, which villiers de l'isle-adam condemns. To fight against it, - because it's a middle class conventional language-, uses it in a derisive way. That's why, villiers' speech is very ambiguous. Finally, the ambiguity and the ferocity appear through the phenomenon of noise into the tales

Full textWhile seeking to determine discourse implications in the social processes of subjectivation, we have felt obliged to focus on the one theme of immigration. Assuming that these processes have to be traced out mostly in the extralinguistic sphere, we have tried out three linguistic theories, the scope of wich extends beyond the analytical description of the spoken sequence viewed from a strutural stand point. This has enabled us to put to test with the speech language and individual subject social subject articulations. The conclusions are the following: - linguistic semantics subordinates speech to language and makes the subjectivation process inaudible. - semanalysis places subjectivity at the core of verbal production whilst taking into account its formal framework - praxematics denounces that framework through proxemic filling of the bordeslines which become the locus of subject inscription in socio-discursive processes

Full textLet Ʃ be an alphabet of size s ⩾2. A pattern or dictionary is a set of words written with letters from Ʃ. The multiple pattern-matching problem consist in finding all occurrences of the words of a given dictionary in a text. In this thesis, we focuse on the estimation of the complexity of the exact or appromate multiple pattern-matching problem in termes of minimum ratio of text to be read in a random text of lenght n in order to find all the exact or approximate occurrences of the words of an arbitrary dictionary. This complexity is linked to the notion of content r = (rᵢ)I ≥1 of a dictionary, i.e., the vector of integers whose i-th entry rᵢ is the number of words of lenght i int the dictionary. On one hand, we prove that the complexity of the exact multiple pattern-matching problem for a random dictionary of content r when at most k editiong errors (insertion, deletion, substitution) are allowed is in Ɵ (αsΦ(r)+ βs K+1/ᵐmᵢn) with Φ(r)=1/ks (max/m In(smr m)/m + 1/2ˢᵐmᵢn), and αs, βs, et ks depend only on the size s of the alphabet. For the exact pattern-matching problem as well as for the approximate pattern-matching problem, the steps of proof are the same. For the upper bounds, algorithms that reached the required complexity for dictionary of content r are presented and analyzed. The lower bounds are established thanks to counting arguments

While a significant part of these data exist in structured form, much of the information contained in electronic health records is available in free text form that can be used for many tasks. In this manuscript, two tasks are explored: the multi-label classification of clinical texts and the detection of negation and uncertainty. The first is studied in cooperation with the Rennes University Hospital, owner of the clinical texts that we use, while, for the second, we use publicly available biomedical texts that we annotate and release free of charge. Full textIn some of his plays, the East-German Playwright Heiner Müller (1929-1995) inserted non-dramatic texts. These inserts are extremely varied both in genre and theme and often of a hermetic nature. They are designed on the one hand to disrupt the structure of the play in which they are integrated and on the other hand to introduce further themes. These inserts tend to be linked together as well as to establish links with other texts thus accentuating the intertextual nature of the play at the expense of its intrinsic coherence. The present study analyses three emblematic inserts: Herakles 2 oder die Hydra (Herakles 2 or the hydra), a central and narrative insert of the play Zement (Cement, 1972); Das Gefühl des Scheiterns (The feeling of failure), a comment inserted by the author into Traktor (Tractor, 1974); and Bildbeschreibung (Explosion of a memory, 1984), which wavers between drama and prose. These three texts, chronologically covering the period in which Heiner Müller used inserts in his writings, show a progression starting from the havoc-spreading insert, over the textual mine which litterally fragments the play to the devouring sphinx-like insert. As fast as the insert imperils the integrity of the play, the latter opens itself both to a metapoetic dimension and, most of all, to the intervention of the reader, who then shares in the production of meaning. The political dimension, clearly essential in the whole works of Heiner Müller, remains but undergoes a deep transformation insofar as from being a sheer content to be transmitted, politics becomes an activity of the reader, who then really comes to grips with the text

Full textCinematic adaptation of a literary text is neither a reproduction nor an illustration for a work of literature; it is a creative reinterpretation that contributes to the migration of a text within a broader culture. Cinematic transference undertakes a process of rewriting, a semiotic “recoding” of the text that carries on a dialogue between two works, two languages, and two epochs. This transference moreover gives rise to two kinds of issues: issues of form (what does the transfer from text to image consist of?) and issues of semantics (what meaning does the recurrence of a text carry in the wider culture?). In Russia, cinematic adaptation of literary classics has represented, since the very beginnings of Russian cinema in 1908, a practice unparalleled in its prodigiousness and diversity. In terms of form, it has played a crucial role in the evolution of cinematic language, contributing to the discovery of the intertextual possibilities of film as well as anchoring the importance of “text” as a concept in the culture of Russian cinema. In a semantic sense, cinematic adaptation signals a link of reference and identity between the Russians and their literary heritage. In the Soviet context of institutionalized cinematic art, it represents in turn a form of instrumentalization for ideological purposes (1929-1954), and, later, a means to bypass through literature the official dogma. At the end of the dissertation, an analysis of two Chekov adaptations during the cultural “thaw” of the mid-1950s permits a demonstration of the principle functions of cinematic adaptation in Russia

Full textIn this thesis, we studied the all-optical multicast routing (AOMR) problem in wavelength-routed WDM networks. With respect to the delay and link stress sensitive AOMR, an efficient algorithm based on avoiding multicast incapable branching nodes in light-trees is proposed. This algorithm is shown to be able to find a good tradeoff among the end-to-end delay, the link stress and the total cost. Regarding the power-aware AOMR, a more accurate and realist power loss model is defined for all-optical multicasting. Based on this new model, the power optimal design of light-trees is formulated by a mixed-integer programming (MILP). To achieve so, a set of novel linear equations is introduced to replace the nonlinear ones induced by the light splitters. In order to analyze the AOMR heuristic algorithms and assess their performances, the cost bounds of multicast light-trees and the approximation ratios of heuristic algorithms are derived mathematically in both unweighted and non-equally weighted WDM mesh networks. Concerning the cost optimal AOMR, a new structure called light-hierarchy is proposed. It is proven that the optimal structure is not the light-tree but the proposed light-hierarchy. Simulation results strongly suggest the employment of light-hierarchy for AOMR in WDM networks with sparse splitting

In this thesis, we take interest in the particular case where multiple users have to work simultaneously on shared office documents and take advantage from all the benefits provided by the cloud without having to compromise on the manipulated data’s confidentiality. To prevent cloud providers from accessing their users’s confidential data, we propose a process that protects both data’s confidentiality and integrity while it transfers in and out of the provider’s infrastructure. This technique allows the use of a cloud’s services for confidential work without the need for the users to trust the cloud’s behavior regarding confidentiality. Our technique also implements digital signatures for every change to the documents, which prevents unauthorized manipulations on it. The presented technique also uses a secure element enabling the encapsulation of cryptography operations at the hardware level. The process is applicable only to content which does not need any server-side interpretation from the cloud provider.

Full textIt is certain that the contemporary understanding of rationality in the West have one of its sources in the ancient Greek tradition, and the manner in which the Greeks have thought and built their own design of human rationality, that they expressed in a philosophical and conceptual way, getting away from a poetic expression considered perhaps too inadequate to the philosophy’s exercise. This Greek source is certainly of vital importance to understand the modern rationality, but it is not the single ancient source: Celtic, Latin, Arab, but also Jewish’s sources are no less essential to our understanding of rationality as it unfolds now days, nor even to the construction of the so-called contemporary rationality. The Bible is a major source of our civilization, it has contributed in an essential manner to the constitution of our modes of thoughts and philosophical attitudes, by proposing a model that could be called anthropologic of human’s being and the humanity, if we define anthropology as a science of human being and to the extent, perhaps contradictory, where the science do not the economy of the vertical dimension of the relationship between human beings and the sacred, here taking the face of a single God. However also attempts to think all fields of human activity, so that this act human or philosophically thought in a very conceptual language, Hebrew, from the text biblical itself, and according to a poetic expression which does not seem to be philosophical, but which however is an open system of thought philosophical itself, despite the mythical appearance of the Genesis. In reality, this mythical aspect is to hear some understanding of rationality, to which we are indebted, in fact, a way of understanding both the world and the universe, humanity, the human psyche, its modes of reasoning, and rationality resulting. It offers the reader, in the form of a poetic, in the language, and expression contained in the history of the characters and figures themselves, a genesis of rationality

Full textThe thesis shows from animal and body metaphors that, in the uncoscious mind, a. Gide's narrativ creation arises from a double fantasy : murdering and devouring the mother. This fantasy generates the story and the speech. The thesis uses elements from freud and jung psychoanalytical studies : the imagination criticism and the contemporary theory of text, enriched by linguistics and its different movements. It restores the way of organizing narrative plans, characters, themes and language itself. It reveals the links between the text and myths and studies the meaning of myths themselves but also in the work of gide. According to the study of text production, a concept by mr riffaterre, five principles can be drawn : paragramm, euphemism, equivalence, intertextuality and motivation

Full textTraditionally, the teaching of Spanish in French secondary education is mainly based on "literary texts". But this is no plain, self-obvious phrase, it comes from a long evolution in literary criticism. Yet, we can take for granted that literarity is bound up with plurivocity. And, clearly, psycho-analysts as well as pedagogues say those multistrand texts act powerfully on the reader's intellectual and affective progress. A way of analysing them is proposed in Interlanguage Official Instructions. But the various language curricula do not follow those instructions in the same way. In fact, using literary texts is quite a problem for teachers, who often do not take into account what makes these texts so special. A review of the school-books tells us a lot. Yet the new curricula for French classes can provide tools, in so far as these are used to lead the pupils towards the meaning(s) and to make them really understand Culture (in its broadest sense, not only civilization). That means that Education, and especially language teaching, should not be merely utilitarian in its purpose. It is essential to place the learner as the centre of his learnings and, as the European Common Reference Framework For Foreign Language Teaching suggests, to propose tasks, which will allow the pupil to overcome his prejudices ; so, he will learn how to approach a complex text by himself, and the situation of teaching/ learning as well as what he gets out of it will mean something to him. Thus a large field lies open for teachers' inventiveness ; examples are given here, showing some of the numerous possibilities this approach offers

Full textWe studied the stakes of text's theory or litterary theory in Roland Barthes' work. We studied it in four parts : semiology, thematism, structuralism, " textualism ". We saw psychoanalisis all long our four parts. Barthes' semiology went thraugh different steps, which are not coherent from the begining to the end. His epistemology is linked to psychoanalisis more than linguistic. Thematism is introduced since the beginning of Barthes' theory and remains during a long period. Abaut his structuralism's epistemology, thematism and psychoanalisis are as important as linguistic. Especially psychoanalisis, which ruled over his structural thought. In textualism, since S/Z, psychoanalisis, almost lacanian, mixed up with materialism, is very actual. From now and then, he underlined words such as : " work ", " production ", " weaving ", " signifiance ", " enjoyment " to develop his text's theory

Full textE. M. Forster has no doubt stimulated filmmakers' imagination thanks to his very particular style, both descriptive and colourful, full of contents which are implicit or left unsaid. Five out of the novelist's six novels have been brought to the screen, amongst which a passage to india by david lean, a room with a view, maurice and howards end by james ivory. Like any reader, filmdirectors will fill the gaps of the writer's narrative : they extend the initial work, add to the text and give it their particular interpretation. Film must lead to a new organization of the story. Moreover it has to clarify some elements which have been left unsaid. But on the other hand some of the contents clearly expressed by forster seem to disappear on the screen. Studying analogies then reveals that cinema does express these contents but in a much more implicit way : shooting angles, framing, lighting, editing, props, musical comments and silence work as indirect messages and complete what acting and costumes otherwise suggest. Film narrative brings to light some aspects of the novel which have been kept in the shade. It checks some of the hypotheses which the narrator has suggested. Although it hides some of its contents it adds to the writer's work. Films and novels shed light on each other while underlining the existence of those cultural codes which surreptitiously change from one age to another and allow us to understand implicit messages

The analyze of the Joseph's narrative koranic is at the same time textual and intertextual. In fact in the first time, it deals with the detection of the narrative structure which subtend our text. In the second time, we try to demonstrate if this structure is similar or distinct than the joseph's narrative structure related in the bible. As for, the last chapter of our search, it represented by frensharabic dictionary of the semiotic concept in which is based on our analysis
