Abstract:

Conect AB wants to know how they can use ITIL in their organization. Right now their company is in an expansive phase and needs a more structured way to work. They have been thinking of improving their way of work for several years but haven’t had the time to do so. Now they have realized they need to work more efficiently to able to grow further. ITIL is a collection of best practices. ITIL’s purpose is to help IT organizations to get more organized to de able to benefit the business in a better way. ITIL is developed by OGC (Office Goverment of Commerce) in England. With the help

ITIL you can structure your work better and there by increase the efficiency of the IT process. ITIL is divided I several processes and each one of them have their own purpose. That makes everyone’s duties clear. The central parts of ITIL are Service Support and Service Delivery that gives an overview of how to work in an

IT organization. The information about ITIL that has been acquired through previous courses at School of Engineering in Jönköping. Some books about ITIL were used to furthermore gather information. The information about how Conect AB work has been put together through several interviews with the supervisor at the company. A survey was sent to several of their customers, which of three of them replied.

This provided a good idea about how Conect AB works today. At the moment the company doesn’t have a helpdesk system to handle incoming

incidents. This is considered as the weakest part for the moment. A helpdesk system could improve the efficiency of their work a lot. To handle the incoming incidents in a correct way Conect AB will need to build a helpdesk, instead of letting the customers call the technicians directly. If they choose to implement the advices given to improve them, they will probably be able to expand even more. The time saved by the improvements can be used more efficient. This will allow the costumer relations to increase.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Our purpose with this report is to create a structural basis over how to improve handling with international freight at ITAB Shop Concept (further mentioned as ITAB). We have through interviews with employees at ITAB and observations identified problems that have caused difficulties at handling with international freight, from the time when an order is placed to when it’s delivered to the customer. We have also interviewed shipping companies.

We have in the theory chapter written about shipping conditions for international freight and a main part of our theory is about NSAB 2000, which describes the obligations and rights shippers and consignee has.

In order to improve the efficiency ITAB has to be aware of the problems in the company and try to solve them.

The problems we have identified are described in the result chapter. One of the problems is that employees at the warehouse don’t know when gods is supposed to be shipped. This may result into gods being left over in the warehouse. We have in the analyze chapter listed our solutions to solve this problem and it has first priority in our classification table which are discussed further below. The classification table consist of problems that we have identified and each problem has a priority. The priority is based from two criteria’s, how difficult it’s to solve and how important it’s to solve the problem. We have thereafter multiplied these two criteria’s to get a priority list. The problems with the lowest points are the ones we suggest ITAB should solve first.

Abstract:

ITAB Shop Concept Nässjö AB is a major actor in the shop interior decoration market. ITAB has during several years, seen their inventory levels increase and has experienced efficiency problems in their purchasing. Part of ITAB's problems is their customers’ very unsteady demand and their inability to give ITAB good information on when and where they will open or refurbish their stores. In ITAB’s efforts to improve their purchasing they have decided to move from a system where they exchange single orders with their suppliers, with a given, fixed delivery time, to a system of sending block orders and exchange forecasts. The block order system means that ITAB places an order for the full amount of an article needed during a set period. The suppliers will then deliver the amount needed by ITAB at several occasions specified by ITAB. Delivery schedules and forecast will give the supplier the information as to how much and when to deliver. However, this change has yet to be implemented. The purpose of this study is thus to analyse what effects such a change might have on ITAB and their suppliers.

The study made is based on a qualitative approach. The information used to analyse the problem was acquired through several semi-structured interviews with different managers within ITAB as well as two people within each of the supplier organisations. Five of ITAB’s suppliers were interviewed. The people interviewed in the supplier organisations all belonged to sales, or order department or production planning or vice president. Mapping was used to illustrate the current order flow, purchasing flow, and production flow within ITAB as well as the order flow in the supplier organisations.

The outcome of the interviews was that several of the suppliers showed a very positive attitude to the implementation of the block order system. The cooperation between them and ITAB seemed, according to both parties, to be working well. A good relationship is a good basis to introduce new routines and deepen the relationship. The suppliers believed that a forecast would give them the possibility to improve their production planning as well as their capacity use. However, each supplier set terms for its implementation. One being that the information sharing between the two companies must improve. ITAB also have to take the responsibility as well as ownership of everything they purchase. If this is the case, most suppliers aired a certain promise to be able to store ITAB’s products before delivering and to be able to implement the block order system. However, there need to be further negotiations between ITAB and the suppliers to discuss and settle the exact terms of contract.

It is the authors’ belief that some prerequisites must be fulfilled before ITAB implements the block order system. The information sharing between the two companies must improve. If the forecast shall give the suppliers some benefits, they need to be as accurate as possible. The communication about orders has to be timelier and fit the suppliers lead times better. Today, the suppliers often receive order information from ITAB too late, which causes difficulties. If the suppliers are to trust the forecasts, they must be as accurate as possible. It is the author’s belief that if this is not so the suppliers will increase their inventory costs as well as continue to have difficulties delivering. It is also the author’s belief that the communication between sales and purchasing in ITAB needs to improve so that the forecast can be updated in a timely fashion as well as correctly. More involvement of suppliers as well as purchasing and production within ITAB’s product development phase could help them prepare for changes, and prevent mishaps.

Abstract:
Acquisitions for a value of approximately $2 trillion are conducted globally every year with the motives of i.e., enhanced market power and increased shareholder value. Despite the interest in acquisitions the failure rate on acquisitions in 2011 was estimated to 70-90 %. Thus researchers have called for further examination on acquisitions and especially on the acquisition process, and strategic fit and organizational fit, which is believed to facilitate the outcome of the acquisitions. The acquisition process is described as a linear process con- sisting of two sub processes, pre-acquisition and post-acquisition, that acquiring organiza- tions progress through step-wise. The purpose of this study is to examine how the acquisition process and strategic fit and organizational fit can be handled to facilitate successful acquisitions. In order to get a deep and comprehensive understanding of the acquisitions process, the authors of this thesis have conducted a case study. The company, ITAB Shop Concept AB, has a background of 20 successful acquisitions, which have contributed to a steady growth in both turnover and share price. ITAB Shop Concept AB has been researched through in- depth interviews with key persons in the management, responsible for the acquisitions conducted. By adopting a dynamic approach to the acquisition process and taking an overall view of the strategic fit and organizational fit in each phase of the acquisition process, organiza- tions can understand and prevent the possible issues leading to failure. Furthermore organ- izations might benefit from having an acquisition process adapted for each acquisition tar- get. For example it is found that by conducting due-diligence in the post-acquisition pro- cess instead of the pre-acquisition process, and keeping the same persons in the acquisition team, more efficient use of resources and prior experience is facilitated.

Abstract:
The aim of the project was to develop a framework for the execution of a Measurement System Analysis (MSA) which would help determine capability of a measurement system. The strategy behind carrying out this thesis has been to draft a framework which is based on the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC) model for a Measurement System Analysis (MSA) which would enable to gain a better understanding of the capability of measurement instruments that are used to control the quality of production processes of lithium-ion batteries. The framework helps users carry out controlled experiments that help determine parameters such as bias, linearity, stability, and robustness for the accuracy determination and repeatability and reproducibility to help determine precision. To put the framework in practice, a case study was undertaken on the image measurement system in the quality control laboratory. Once the capability of the measurement system is understood, it is accepted or rejected based on the acceptance criteria defined in this thesis. In this case study, the current state of the measurement system was not acceptable to control the production process as there was high variability in the measurement results. This was overcome with the implementation of an automated measurement program that reduced measurement variability. The final phase of the framework is responsible for ensuring that the improvements made to the system are controlled over a long period of time. Therefore, control charts are used to continuously track the measurement system performance and notify users about trends and outliers.

Abstract:
In this thesis an investigation has been made in order to find possibilities to assure the quality at an assembly line at Parker Hannifin Manufacturing Sweden AB:s facility in Trollhättan. The purpose with the study was to improve the quality assurance at Fixed Motors F11-assembly line, where the work was based on an already conducted process-FMEA. In order to verify and further investigate the customer perspective, an inquiry was also done to see what customers complained about, this with help of PQP, Product Quality Problems, and NCMR, Nonconformance reports. By analyzing the process-FMEA, PQP and NCMR reports an identification and prioritization of critical failures were made. The result from these steps was three failures, incorrect positioning of the bearing house, picking of incorrect material and incorrect gear timing. These three were considered to be the most critical failures to quality assure. The aim with the quality work were set to reduce the total RPN, Risk Priority Number, of the process-FMEA, which was rendered by applying a concept generation and a concept selection for the specific failures. In relation with the concept selection, interviews were made with staff that was considered important and vital for the project. This was made to identify specific customer needs regarding solutions to the three failures. From these needs a target specification was developed to ease the generation of concepts. After generating a number of well specified concepts, a concept selection was made using the two methods screening and scoring and an additional Parker method called 3P to further establish that the right concepts was chosen. Further it was then possible to update the process-FMEA with the chosen concept solutions and by doing that reaching the project aim. By implementing the solutions it was possible to reduce total RPN, 6415, with 47,5 percent.

Abstract:
This report is part of a bachelor thesis implemented at Saab training systems AB in Huskvarna. It treats the concept development of the driveline on Moving infantry target, MIT. Today Saab has a problem in the shape of that their customers uses the wrong moment when tightening the cog belt of the driveline. As a consequence the cog belt has a high risk of snapping if it is too tight or pluck off if it is too loose. Thereto the electrical motors used in the MIT has gone out of production. The task boiled down to produce a number of proposals that improves the chucking or driveline solution together with finding a new electrical motor to replace the outdated one. A concept study was made containing detailed examinations together with Saab. To answer the problems questions, several product development methods were used, like Quality function deployment and Pugh’s matrix, to reach a final concept. The last concepts were modeled in a 3D-program for an easier comparison between their feasibility. The chosen solution consisted of two motors that via a gearing actuates the respective axle. By replacing the belt drive and choosing more lubrication free gears the maintenance is expected to be improved. In addition the product price is lowered by careful choices of components. The production of a prototype could not be implemented due to lack of time.

Abstract:
Abstract Since there is an increased uncertainty of future customer demand industries and firms have to be more responsive meeting this volatile demand. Making the supply chain more efficient is one way of doing this.   Iggesund Paperboard AB (IPAB) wants a greater consciousness about their future customer demand of the supply chain and therefore an investigation of the predicted future customer demand is made. This investigation included secondary data analysis and in-depth interviews with employees at IPAB. The secondary data analysis gives an indication of the predicted future customer demand and the in-depth interviews describes today’s situation. Together they give an indication of where IPAB stands today and where they are heading in terms of future demand.   Also an analysis of how to get a more efficient supply chain is made. The milk run concept is applied to a selected number of German merchants where the selection is based on historical data from the years 2014-2015. If the milk run concept is implemented the authors predict IPAB to meet the future customer demand together with a reduction of 31 % of the overall transportation cost.

Abstract:
This is a master thesis project performed with Maze Interior AB in Stockholm in the spring/summer 2019, via Luleå University of Technology within product design. It is further part of the Master Programme in Industrial Design Engineering in the course D7014A with the purpose of designing a new coffee-table concept for the less spacious homes. The assignment was additionally about developing an aesthetic coffee table that meets the needs of Maze, the market and the intended users. Other desired qualities were a sustainable and Scandinavian design that is of good quality as well as works with Maze’s existing product range. The project came about because of a perceived lack of smaller tables on today’s interior market and as a result of that, a mutual interest was found in developing a coffee table. As the coffee table is sometimes considered the heart of the living room, it puts certain demands on the product experience, which was explored in this thesis project. The project consisted of four main phases, namely the Conceive & Inspiration, Design, Implement and Operate phase. Examples of methods used, leading up to the results, included a literature review, various analyses of Scandinavian design, the market and Maze, online surveys, interviews, ideation, building a full-sized prototype, CAD modelling, stability calculations etc. The project resulted in a final coffee-table concept named Öglan and an alternative version of it presented in the collection Mono 19. Öglan is a contemporary coffee table with personality due to its playful yet elegant loop shaped leg. It furthermore fulfils the objectives and aims of the project; an innovative, aesthetic, Scandinavian rooted and sustainable coffee table of high quality for the space efficient home. Abstract:
Background – The energy sector is experiencing instability and energy companies must embrace more flexible structures and strategic initiatives to remain relevant. Purpose – To gain understanding about the challenges with implementing strategic congruence and integrated control in umbrella organizations and how their interplay can contribute to achieving a common business logic. Methodology – In the scope of a single case study, we conducted 20 interviews on corporate, business and functional level at Tekniska verken in Linköping AB. The ‘tentative model’ of Nilsson and Rapp (2005) was re-assessed to examine a common business logic. Findings – Our empirical findings indicated that the businesses of umbrella organizations can be diverse while simultaneously being congruent. When addressing strategic congruence, it is challenging because transparent communication and collaboration between business areas as well as optimizing organizational structures and designing clear responsibility areas is difficult to achieve. Regarding integrated control, it is not easy to realize because the corporate plan needs wide acceptance and breaking down complex content to the business areas is challenging. Not to mention that a common frame of reference regarding terminology and alike control standards requires high commitment.

Abstract:
This thesis work is carried out in Cargotec Sweden AB, Bromma Conquip to study the behavior of load carrying welded joints in different weld metal strength mismatch conditions and various penetration ratios. Static and fatigue strength calculations have been made using FEA and experimentation. The joint in the Telescopic beam of the spreader STS45 has been analyzed. Telescopic beam is one of the critical and main parts in the spreader, which is directly subjected to the load of containers at various ports. Previous studies show that this joint limits the strength of the spreader, it has thus been analyzed. To check the effect of different strength mismatch conditions in the weld metal, static strength calculations have been carried out. The effect of different penetration ratios on static and fatigue strength has also been studied. A cruciform test specimen is designed according to the joint configuration and the capacity of testing machine. Criteria for the selection of consumables has also been developed and following standards: Eurocode 3, AWS D1.1 and BSK07, have been compared for static joint design. Sub modelling, effective notch stress and beam theory techniques have been used to study the effect of weld metal penetration and size of weld throat on the fatigue strength of the welded joint in the Telescopic beam. The study show that matching or slight under matching in the filler material along with full penetration increases the ultimate strength capacity as well as the ductility in the joint. Results of Eurocode 3, AWS D1.1 and BSK 07 are close to each other. Apart from strength mismatch and penetration ratios, it is observed that the weld geometry and joint preparation has also effect on the strength of the joint. Fatigue analysis of the weld in the Telescopic beam using 3D Finite element analysis show that effective notch concept is not applicable to this part of the spreader.

Abstract:

The development in the steam turbine business is heading for applications with much higher steam parameters since this enables a raised efficiency. Steam parameters refer to the pressure and the temperature of the steam. The aim of this study was to generate concepts for steam turbine inlet control valves designed for higher pressure and temperature in comparison with the present design. Future steam power plants using solar energy, based on tower technology, request this kind of performance and are an important potential market.

This master thesis at Linköping University has been written in collaboration with Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB. The performed work has incorporated literature studies, functional analysis and solid mechanics analysis, flow analysis, evaluation of sealings and cup springs and development of the dimensioning data for the future control valve. The aim was to find a design concept that sustains the new and higher steam parameters and is tolerant concerning vibrations.

A systematical way to work has been applied during the project and a detailed planning was continuously followed and adjusted. Major methods used were product design specification, quality function deployment, morphological matrices, decision matrices and failure mode and effect analysis. Important programs used during the project were Pro/ENGINEER, MATLAB, FloEFD and MS Excel.

Today’s valves are dimensioned for much lower performance than the new requirements in terms of pressure and temperature. The main problem for the present design is that the opening and closing forces requirements, with the new higher pressure, get unreasonably large. Therefore were many of the developed concepts equipped with a pressure balancing feature. This feature also gives another desirable result; the vibrations (that is the source of many of the problems with the present design) will also be reduced.

During the early concept development phase, 15 different concepts were generated and after the concept evaluation only three concepts remained. These concepts were further developed in different areas of interest and finally one of the three was chosen to be the winning concept. The new valve design will most likely meet the requirements and has the potential to be refined for even higher pressure for future demands.

Abstract:
Short time-to-market is a key success factor in the todays’ dynamic business environment and many companies are trying to improve their product development processes. A challenge is to develop products according to the time plan and at the same time keeping the cost low and the quality high. This study focuses on the project management within the product development process in an automotive industry. The background of this study started as a request from the research and development department at the automotive company, which led to the following questions; 1) what are the most crucial factors for project success? 2) How can these factors contribute to a more successful outcome? 3) How can project management decrease product development lead time by sharing knowledge? The research approach is a case study and the data collection consist of interviews and questioners at two companies connected to project management in product development projects. Spider charts are created from the collected data containing eleven dimensions to show similarities and differences between the project managers working within the research and development department as well as between the two companies. The main conclusions are that there is a need to allow a certain level of flexibility when managing projects, in order to more easily handle late changes. Being involved in a project from the concept phase could facilitate the product development activities later on, due to a deeper understanding regarding previous decisions. Further, knowledge sharing methods, such as databases, has to be designed to be suitable for a specific organization and user friendly which enables the users to more easily search for specific types of knowledge. Lastly, a low level on the detailed focus is shown to be another success factor, however, in some cases there is still a need of this detailed focus to solve specific problems but the details may never become a higher focus than the holistic view.

Abstract:
All mätdata i denna rapport är modifierat. Detta för att skydda känslig information.
A noise phenomenon that arises in connection with air compression in the new D7 engine has been noted as a problem by the customers. The sound phenomenon resonates in the cabin contributes to an unpleasant work environment. The mission, in turn, has been to develop an air compressor-mounted silencer against a requirement specification to eliminate this phenomenon. Using various tools and a spiral product development process, a number of iterations were made of those concepts that could solve the problem. These iterations were engineered in the CATIA V5 software, then ordered as physical prototypes in the material Pa12. To confirm the prototypes' functionality, simulations and physical tests were performed. The resulting work became a concept proposal for Scania CV AB that meets the requirements specifications. The solution managed to reduce the sound phenomenon by 73% on average. With the help of observations and analyzes during the physical test implementation, complications were noted that should be addressed. The most critical on the current concept is the vibration that occurs. To fix this problem additional attachment points will be required on the corresponding side to the current ones. All data in this report have been modified. This is to protect sensitive information.
