Full textTraditional problems solving methodologies like brainstorming, synectics, trial and error, etc. Find their limits when they are facing inventive problems or problems that could be described like contradictions. A contradiction exists when two different and mutually exclusive requirements, states or conditions in a system, have to be present and act together, with the aim to accomplish same objectives. Trade off is usually the most used way to solve this kind of problem, also characterized by a random search of solutions. These situations have a negative impact over performance, which could be improved by applying other methodologies and tools. The theory of inventive problem solving or TRIZ theory has the capacity to eliminate these negative aspects described above and to produce innovative solutions to contradictions. This approach, which is different from the traditional psychology based approaches, is knowledge based. The particular vision of TRIZ is based on the history of technological evolution. TRIZ considers innovation like a process which can be controlled and deployed systematically. Paradoxically, this knowledge based approach with transversal domain application, does not have the capacity to memorise, which is fundamental for learning. Consequently, knowledge that has been employed and created while solving inventive problems can not be reused. This drawback has a negative effect on problem solving performance while deploying TRIZ. Knowledge management has developed the capacity to identify, store and reuse knowledge. This is the core capacity of several knowledge management methodologies, among them is, the Case-Based Reasoning (CBR). The performance of this problem solving tool, lies essentially in its capacity to offer a pragmatic answer for specific domain problems. CBR systems solve a new problem by identifying its similarity to one or several previously solved problems stored in a memory and by adapting their known solutions. Since CBR application is domain specific, CBR cannot consider the solutions that have already been identified in others domains while solving new problems. This characteristic limits the CBR's capacity to propose innovative solutions to a problem. Besides, a shortcoming is revealed when a CBR system faces a problem that had not been solved in the past. If this situation occurs, the memory cannot find a similar problem and consequently, no solution is proposed. The limits and the complementarity observed between TRIZ and CBR are employed to propose a new model. This model presents an approach that combines the technological vision of TRIZ and the ability developed by CBR to memorize and to reuse knowledge. This synergy allows in the fist place, to steer the creative effort when facing inventive problems and in the second, to reuse knowledge that had been acquired in past problems. The capability of this new approach is illustrated by its application in process engineering and industrial engineering
Idrissi, Bouraqadi Azeddine. "Extraction par solvant : étude et modélisation du système tributylphosphate-acides monocarboxyliques." Toulouse, INPT, 2006. https://hal.science/tel-04577752.
Full textThis work concerns the study of the liquid-liquid extraction as a method of recovery and valorization of the carboxylic acids in agro-industrial's effluents. The feasibility of such a process can be established only by investigating all the equilibria involved during the process of extraction. Initially, a detailed study of the mechanism known as « reaction at the interface » made it possible to touch the limits of application of this model when the operational parameters change, thus, this criticism led to a revision of the assumptions on which this model is founded. Taking into account the solubility of Tributylphosphate in aqueous phase, a model known as of “reaction in the aqueous phase” was proposed. It was applied successfully to five monoacids with a broad area of initial concentration of acid, three solvent ratios and eight concentration of extractant (TBP) diluted in dodecane. Finally, the model was extrapolated and validated on liquid-liquid equilibrium data with two carboxylic acids extracted at the same time

Full textThe current economical context implies news needs for companies. Market spread and competitor’s multiplication imply new objectives for companies which must adapt their functioning process and organization to succeed. Efforts focus on minimizing the distance between designers and customers. This distance often originates misunderstandings and deviations related to the initial customer’s demands. The customer is now placed at the core of the design process in order to better integrate his expectations and satisfy his needs. These new practices democratize themselves thanks to the web evolution towards web 2.0, which facilitates communication and triggered the apparition of social networks. Current information management system implement in companies have limitations. Product-Life Management (PLM) systems manage product-related information over its lifetime. They only slightly encompass the user/product interactions, hence missing strategic information for improving products design and innovations. We consider the interactions between a user and a product within a given context and identify the constraints linked to the use of the product. We oriented our research toward this usage information in order to detect the customer’s needs and better initiate product-related innovations. We widen the notion of user to include employees, retailers and suppliers who punctually interact with the product in its lifecycle. To address this issue, we suggest an approach named ULM (Usage Lifecycle Management). This approach involves a new dynamic for managing usage for several product, users and environments. Our work is axed on the usages capitalization phase through downstream lifecycle processes, use/commercialization, maintenance and recycling. We hence concretize our ULM approach trough an outsourced web platform placed as a center point for users. This tool, named C³ for Conception Consumption Communication, is articulated around the user/product/context triangle to capitalize and formalize product usage information. Only through joint reflexion over usages and concepts will it be to reach innovative products able to make a difference in an ultra-competitive market

Full textMany studies show that industrial design is key to triggering, fostering andsustaining innovation. However, the unique capacities of creation and innovationof industrial designers make it challenging for them to thrive within industrialenvironments. The challenge for companies is to create the optimal work environment forthose professionals, while ensuring their work can be integrated smoothly intothe existing industrial design processes. We assume this dilemma is partiallystemming from the intensive use of sequential design models in the industry.Design tools were developed on the assumption that creative front end andproduct development should be separated. We introduce here a new model, aiming at depicting accurately the reasoningmodes and the nature of the object being designed with the digital ComputerAided Design (CAD) suites. This model is the result of the joint mobilization offour academic fields : computer, cognitive and management science and designtheories. Dassault Systèmes and their CATIA software have proven to be an excellentresearch environment for such questions. As we have been thinking, thenew model (laminated) makes three new hypothesis. Those unheard assertionshave been suggested and validated with this thesis :1/ Some specific design workshops are able to provide simultaneously robust andgenerative design capacities. We call this characteristic «acquired originality».2/ The object representations within by the software are not the result of successiverefinements but derive directly from a parameterized set of rules.3/ Industrial designers have specific requirements for CAD tools, different fromtheir engineers and artists counterparts because what they design is fundamentallydifferent. IDs generate conceptual models using a mass singularity technique. Those results sketch the emergence of a new generation of CAD tools forindustrial designers and able to foster innovation

Full textThe knowledge and innovation are considered as the essential sources of the competitive advantage of companies. Thus, the strategy based on knowledge and innovation is crucial for sustaining their competitive advantage. The objective of this study is to propose an approach of Knowledge Management (KM) for innovation in design and build a computer system on the approach in order to help the designers to innovate more efficiently. For obtaining our objective, we model the mechanism of KM for innovation with a systemic knowledge model of content and context, a meta-model and a macro process of KM. We build a networking process of innovation and a state transition model of design integrating the KM activities. In order to operationalize the approach of KM for innovation, a hierarchical model is constructed by integrating the metamodel and macro process of KM with the processes of innovation and design. For demonstrating the functionalities and applicability of the proposed approach, a software prototype based on the approach is developed and applied in an industrial case study

Full textFor a majority of companies, innovation has become an essential element of corporate sustainability. However, during the product development phase the designer is forced to make decisions on design. These decisions subsequently have a strong impact on the acceptability of the products by the market. Orthopaedics implants design is no exception. The aim of this thesis is to show that it is possible to integrate, in the early phases of the orthopaedic implant development process, a tool for decision-making; in choosing concepts that incorporate technical, medical, surgical and economic criteria. The goal is to reduce the risk for the patient but also reduce the risk of commercial failure. The first part of this document focuses on analysing the context of this study, particularly for medical devices. Following this, the state of the art studies the various innovation processes and more specifically, the design process of medical orthopaedic implants. This work forced us to question and analyse evaluation methods for potential innovations available in the scientific literature, and integrate them into the implant sector. From this analysis, a question emerged lying at the heart of our research: how to design innovative implants with a low level of risk (clinical risk, default risk, risk of use)? The answer to this question has resulted in the proposal of a new tool for decision-making (Hypothesis 1) integrated within upstream phases of a suitable decision process (Hypothesis 2) for developing implants. These were then checked and validated in three experiments that resulted in the development of orthopaedic implants that were successfully inserted into patients

Full textIn the current economic context, companies must innovate successfully. The competitiveness rests today on the criteria of cost, time and quality but also on the capacity of the companies to generate a flow of innovation. This new context calls, on the one hand, the evolution of the modes of performance evaluation and, on the other hand, a new definition of the concept of performance which is today multi-criteria, multi-periods and multi-actors. The companies must evaluate and control their performances as of the phase of design of product and processes. Our contribution within this framework is the proposal of methods and models of total performance evaluation of an innovation, as of the phase of design. Our proposal rests mainly on three elements: a model of the process of innovation, a whole of models and methods of estimate and evaluation of the innovation and an environment of decision-making aid allowing implementation methods

Full textThe topic of this thesis is focus on the industrial innovation process and presents an innovative design method. This approach is initiated with the proposition of a new intention based on the exploration through three dimensions Potential (P) - System (S) - Techno (T) of the "multi entries" PST model. Then, our work aims to specify the exploratory reasoning of the design process by the proposition of a "multi questions" PST model that support logical interactions within the three dimensions P,S and T. The central role of the modeling activity in this type of reasoning (PST) and more generally for innovation is then highlighted. Finally, it is shown how to use and refine the results of this PST reasoning in order to have a design deliverable that fit with the innovation indicators identified

Full textThis thesis contributes to scientific research through different aspects. First of all, the product/supply chain couple, traditionally thought of in a causalistic way, was considered through the prism of the complexity paradigm. This theoretical contribution underlines the need to co-design the product/supply chain couple in order to mitigate the efforts associated with launching an innovative product on the market and to ensure its success. However, an empirical study has pointed out that few companies consider the supply chain when designing their innovative product. In this context, supply chain design engineering was developed based on product design data in order to design, specify, validate and implement the supply chain of a new product. This engineering is divided into three major stages: a co-design stage, a positioning stage and an evaluation stage. The co-design stage aims to collect and process the product design data provided by the project team. An instantiated supply chain model was developed to collect the data needed to design the supply chain which is then processed to facilitate modeling. The positioning stage aims to highlight the role of the innovative company within the various supply chain scenarios obtained. Based on the Harmony for System Engineering process and its Rational Rhapsody® tool, this step details the supply chain from a point of view of requirements, stakeholders, processes and behavior (each represented by different diagrams) in order to elaborate different scenarios. Finally, the last step aims to evaluate these supply chain scenarios in order to establish a coherent strategy. Indeed, many researchers have shown that an agile supply chain is better able to support an innovative product when it is launched in order to adapt more quickly to changes (organizational, tactical, marketing, environmental…). Consequently, a framework based on observable phenomena has been developed to facilitate the implementation of an agility strategy, which makes it possible to evaluate the typology of the current supply chain and decide which actions to implement to obtain a more agile supply chain. This engineering has been tested with manufacturing companies

Full textWe develop a series of process models to comprehensively describe and effectively manage innovative design in order to achieve adequate balance between innovation and control, following the design research methodology (DRM). Firstly, we introduce a descriptive model of innovative design. This model reflects the actual process and pattern of innovative design, locates innovation opportunities in the process and supports a systematic perspective whose focus is the external and internal factors affecting the success of innovative design. Secondly, we perform an empirical study to investigate how control and flexibility can be balanced to manage uncertainty in innovative design. After identifying project practices that cope with these uncertainties in terms of control and flexibility, a case-study sample based on five innovative design projects from an automotive company is analyzed and shows that control and flexibility can coexist. Based on the managerial insights of the empirical study, we develop the procedural process model and the activity-based adaptive model of innovative design. The former one provides the conceptual framework to balance innovation and control by the process structuration at the project-level and the integration of flexible practices at the operation-level. The latter model considers innovative design as a complex adaptive system, and thereby proposes the method of process design that dynamically constructs the process architecture of innovative design. Finally, the two models are verified by supporting a number of process analysis and simulation within a series of innovative design projects

Full textInnovation is a real need for industry today. Technical dimension of innovation relies on invention, which means technical problem solving. Our research contributes in building methodological support, assisting technical problem solving in design. The first step is the identification of a problematics in injection molding design, based on the one hand on the analysis of nine projects in two different companies, and on the other hand on a litterature review. This problematics is synthesised in the shape of three conflicts that need to be solved. These three conflicts are then generalised in a problematics in the field of technical system design. To do so, three directions existing in litterature have been reviewed: concurrent engineering, inventive design and TRIZ. The built contributions are presented in the second step. They aim at solving both of the identified problematics. Our contributions are: a knowledge modeling principle (based on three kinds of parameters, linked by objective laws) and a method using this technical knowledge (either in order to identify known solution concepts in the frame of standard design, or to formulate a key contradiction that is to be solved using TRIZ tools in the frame of inventive design). Knowledge modeling principle has been applied to injection molding in order to propose an extended knowledge base. The third step is the testing of our contributions on three projects, managed in the companies already mentionned. It has been possible to propose concept solutions to continue these projects, bloqued due to technical problem. Hence, the efficiency of our contributions has been proved

Full textIt is widely established that industrial innovation has to take into account imaginaries which could cause enthusiasme or rejection effects. That is why, nowadays designers consider them in their design processes. The traditionnal approach considers as stable as exogenous imaginaries, which could be shaped ex-ante and conformed new products and services to be designed. Could it be possible to plan a new approach, that would overpass the stability hypothesis, avoiding a kind of fixation and narrow-mindedness for designers or users ?The thesis focuses on this second approach, which endogenizes imaginaries by considering their renewal properties. It tackles three matters: how the transformation of imaginaries could account for the innovative technical object ? What an engineering system to stimulate imaginaries and feed innovation processes ? Lastly, what managerial actions to collectively support a stimulation of imaginaries, in an industrial context ?Thanks to the recent progress in design theory and empirical experiences led in the automotive industry, we could expand a modelisation effort. This work finds out three main results. Firstly, the thesis characterises the imaginaries dynamic transformation from a concrete and original technical object, by new criterias: heterogeneousness, number, tensions and non-polarity of imaginaries. Secondly, the thesis suggests a theoretical modelisation of the imaginaries expansion throughout a design process made of a knowledge structure with three logics hanging on together, based on the Lacanian approach and redefined by the design way: “real”, “symbolic” and “imaginary”. The thesis shows how to analyse empirical dynamics and set out managerial hypothesis in order to expand imaginaries. Thirdly, the experimentations led on four collective organisations of imaginaries, chosen for their complementarity, confirm, enrich and precise the hypothesis suggested by the theoretical model. It shows that the generativity of imaginaries is directly connected with their diversity and dynamism. Their transformation comes less from the injection of exogenous imaginaries than from a design effort combining with real, symbolic, and available substrates. Thanks to that, it is possible now to create an evolution on imaginaries through a stimulation organisation and a specific management to obtain strong generativity innovation processes

Full textThis doctoral thesis was realized within the framework of a partnership between the Product Design and Innovation Laboratory of Arts et Métiers ParisTech and the Ecole de Biologie Industrielle. The research project behind our thesis aims to support the promotion of new clay particles having been patented by the EBInnov® laboratory. This new polyfunctional ingredient is designed to satisfy several applications in the bio-industries, including the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry, the phytosanitary sector or the environment. The aim of the thesis is to integrate the technical, sensory and regulatory specifications of bio-industrial companies in an innovation-oriented design process. Thus, the research hypotheses rely on the emerging paradigm of open innovation in these sectors. We support that the new innovation intermediaries are efficient in the bio-industries and allow the integration of the innovation potential in the early stages of the design process. The validity of these assumptions was studied by means of industry-related experiments directly linked to the main application sectors of the EBISilc® technology. Finally, we propose an innovation-oriented design process taking into account the evolution of the innovation models in the bio-industries

Full textThis work deals with the integration of a risk management procedure in design projects, which have a very significant failure rate. We propose to provide to enterprise and project managers a model for assistance to the decision-making in innovative design. The methodology is composed of three principal phases: the study at the strategic level (which must make it possible to identify strengths and weaknesses of the company), the study on the project level (relating to the project, once the scenario of innovating design adopted), and the study at the product level, relating to the phase of design itself. In each phase, a preliminary analysis of the risks is made in order to validate or not the choices carried out, which makes it possible to guide the decision makers in their decision-makings

These user-generated dataare valuable for product designers, as informationconcerning user requirements and preference can beidentified. The objective of this study is to develop an approachto guide product design by analyzing automaticallyonline reviews. The proposed approach consists oftwo steps: data structuration and data analytics. In data structuration, the author firstly proposes anontological model to organize the words andexpressions concerning user requirements in reviewtext. Then, a rule-based natural language processingmethod is proposed to automatically structure reviewtext into the propose ontology. In data analytics, two methods are proposed based onthe structured review data to provide designers ideason innovation and to draw insights on the changes ofuser preference over time. In these two methods, traditional affordance-based design, conjointanalysis, the Kano model are studied andinnovatively applied in the context of big data.To evaluate the practicability of the proposedapproach, the online reviews of Kindle e-readers aredownloaded and analyzed, based on which theinnovation path and the strategies for productimprovement are identified and constructed

Full textNowadays, due to the densification of population in urban areas, cities and territories are facing energy and environmental challenges. The smart city concept aspires to meet these challenges, relying on the use of digital technologies to improve operations across the city. The smart city concept finds its full potential in the interconnexion and interactivity of urban operations and services: transportation system, utilities and buildings, waste, water and energy management and crime detection for example. Therefore, companies must collaborate, through alliances, to offer complete solutions to public authorities. For diversified business groups – which have multiple subsidiaries operating in various industrial sectors – a better way to offer complete solutions to public authorities would be to develop internal synergies to combine its subsidiaries’ resources and competencies. However, the literature lacks methods and tools to support business groups in the initiation of such synergies. Thus, the objective of this PhD thesis is to help business groups to initiate and manage internal collaborations for the development of complete and innovative solutions for nowadays’ urban challenges. More precisely, this thesis answers the following question: how to optimize cross-subsidiary collaboration in diversified business groups? Based on existing contributions on multi-partner collaborations, we focused our work on the creation of cross-subsidiary collaborative structures. The main contribution of this work is the formalization of a cross-subsidiary collaborative structure’s design and management method: the CROSS method. An action-research approach was used to develop this method, which is structured in two phases: the creation of a cross-subsidiary collaborative structure, through the alignment of the stakeholders on common goals, and the management of this structure. The contributions of this thesis are demonstrated through two experimentations of the CROSS method in a French diversified business group

Full textIn the current economic context, price, quality and time are not any more the only competitive advantages since all the serious competitors are powerful on these three dimensions. In order to be different, companies have to innovate. To achieve this goal, the company has to be flexible and has to develop its intelligence. This leads to a better innovation process management and in particular a growth in its design activities effectiveness. This increase can be done thanks to two nonexclusive alternatives: on the one hand, a more extended control of various scientific knowledge, because of an increasing complexification of the technical systems; on the other hand, a rise in people competence on effective design methods, i. E. Leading to real modifications of existing systems, even to totally new systems. It is what we call innovative design. Various cases are possible for companies wishing to innovate. They can seek to innovate by themselves, to gather in corporate network to innovate together or to gather in network to learn how to innovate. This thesis problematic rests on the improvement of the performance in design by learning the innovative design in network. In order to limit resources, the partners gather their learning in order to learn together how to design better. The main contribution relates to the definition and the characterization of a network making it possible to join together companies wishing to develop their competences on new design methods

Full textConsumption of fuelwood, mainly in the form of wood chips, is growing to achieve the goal fixed by the “Grenelle de l’Environment” Laws. Increasing wood chip production needs more and more raw materials and use of wood chippers or shredders is well established. These machines are very energy-consuming particularly in gasoline. First, this thesis presents original methods for measuring chipper performance and focuses on influence of cutting parameters on energy efficiency. Wood chipper energy performance is defined by the ratio between tonnes of dry wood chips and power consumed by the machine to produce them. Using energy efficiency determination method, all wood chippers will be compared and will help customer to choose the machine that consumes the least energy to produce wood chips. Wood chipper performance is measured at two different locations: one closer to the cutting area and the other at the wood chipper drive. The results show that wood chipper performance factor is properly defined and cutting parameters impacts wood chip performance. Cutting optimization halves the chipper fuel consumption to produce the same wood chips quantity. The results also show the limits of safeguard that reduce by 40% chipper performance. This thesis must help designers for developing more efficient machines to reduce their impact on the environment

Full textThe technological driving of innovation, the growth and the development of the companies, must be visible to be recognized and developed by the customer. The simultaneous design of the technical, stylistics and sensory attributes of the product is the assumption selected allowing the success of the innovations. Process models supporting this integration were developed and allow to control the innovation process in industry. The intermediary representations allow, on the one hand, a reduction in the cycle time of design of a product by intensifying the exchanges ("concurrent engineering") between the trades (engineer, designer, manager, ergonomist). In addition, the development of numerical prototype allows the integration of the user in the initial phases of the process of design and the reduction of the number of material prototypes (and of the costs associated with their construction). However, the intermediary representations modify the environments of collaborative work of the projects teams. The objective of this research is to evaluate the potential of these representations and to model the process of design in its preliminary phases

Particulary computerizing, leads men to design ever larger and more complex systems. But these systems also raise numerous and complex problems of assimulation and adaptation. It is therefore necessary to master the integration of new tools into existing structures. In practice this is rarely the case. However, often because current methods are inadequate. A new generation of methods is needed for the new generation of tools. Several methods exist for implementing change, but the inadequacy of current methods led us to propose the dynastic approach, which combines the controlled change approach and the spatial dimension. The spatial dimension involves analysing the organisation, the technical system and the social system from the point of view of contenu and relations. It makes for improved understanding of the organisation and its environment, which is essential to nay controlled change. The controlled change approach also takes into account all the scientific and technical knowledge required to operate the change. It is therefore an approach in which we identify : the different issues at stake, the project design and control aspects for supervising the implentation of the systems concerned. It takes into account the culture of the organisation and bets on work organisation, safety, reliability, ergonomics, quality ans management, communication, participation, selection, training and documentation, which are all essentiel and decisive elements in controlled change. Moreover, beyond these two aspects. The "dynastic" approach makes it possible to define the target situation and enter into negociations for an active commitment of the different parties concerned, at every level in the organisation. As a " meta-methode ", over all. Dynastic is the process to elaborate and manage change in computerizing projects. Dynastic, this pratical method, has a focus in concept of management change caused by computerizing. The application of dynastic in compterizing is "m3cti". Full textTo decrease product design time, we propose a decision making method in distant concurrent engineering. We have built and applied a loop method of decision making in product design which integrates the internal and external teams of the company, including customer. The various product concepts must be spread by the internet. They are proposed according to " virtual intermediate representations " that we characterize using our " 3i model " (information, infrastructure, interoperability). In order to evaluate different product concepts through the internet, we develop a conjoint analysis software using virtual prototypes

Full textOur study concentrates on the techniques which offer an automatic support for the adaptation and the revision of the dynamic models. The objective is to study how bond graphs can help to conceive innovating systems answering a set of specifications expressed in terms of temporal or frequential behavior. The main concern of an engineer confronted with a modelling problem is to make an abstraction of the system he needs to model. It is a difficult task to determine which aspects or properties are relevant for the system at hand. Sometimes these choices may be the source of models with inconsistencies that will fail in the analysis or control phase. Several physical aspects of the system (friction, fluid inertia, etc) that were not taken into consideration may be the cause of an inconsistent model. With our approach the intention was to point out another capability of this method, that of a reconstruction tool, which may indicate to a possible solution in case of an inconsistent with specifications design. We also wish that the system suggested in this study to be used as a tool in conceptual design of technological devices subjected to a set of specifications

Full textThe aim of this work is to design gesture guidance elements. This question appeared in a design oriented industrial research context, concerning product design as much as knowledge of man in an interaction situation. Design is both necessary for industry, in order to create usable products, and inspiring for research, to evoke fecund problems. We suggest here a circulation between product ergonomics, to outline the richness of uses, and standard experimentations, to determine the phenomenon involved in the situations in question and to propose widespread explicative principles. The stake is to anticipate and bring under control innovations appropriation by users. We are going to study especially the theme of haptic navigation, or how users touch the product to reach the aimed zone. For touch, the perceptive modality called haptic associates tactile and kinesthesia, linked in an intentional gesture, carrying signification. Considering perception as a cognitive activity being the result of a sensorimotor coupling between an organism and his environment, we studied textures touch. Results allow first of all to formulate design specifications for gesture guidance elements and also to better understand haptic perception of textures

Full textAs an industrial point of view, product design activity answer to firmsdevelopment needs. This activity requires a lot of heterogeneous knowledge and skills, whichhave to converge towards a common goal: describe a product meeting the market needs.Consequently, there are many interactions between the firm, its market and the design activity. Therefore, a development project must take into account specifications and constraints of eachelement. The goal of this PhD is to define a generic methodological framework allowing to builtand control a product design project depending on the firm development goals and its ownresources. For this, it is important to include many technical factors (such innovation, multitechnologicalproducts and numerical data specificities) but also economical and financialfactors (as the difficult competitive environment or limited financial resources). All theseheterogeneous parameters involve a global approach of the problem. That is why a two-stageresearch approach is applied to build this framework. In the first stage, a conceptual diagram isdesigned using items coming from the company goals, its market and design activity.Interactions and behavior of all these items are deduced from this conceptual diagram. Theseresults are formalized through a generic process. This last one is finally applied to severalexamples from SME working in the mechanical field

Full textAlthough it is diversely characterized, the innovative nature of instruments seems to follow three types of innovation: (a) imitations of existing instruments; (b) hybridizations of more or less coercive instruments; (c) or meta-conglomerations of instruments. After admitting that all instruments originate from one another through these three innovation paths and a unique object model, we tried to provide a new design method that would both enable the identification of innovative instruments and their design.Within the frame of intervention research, we agreed to define an instrument as a specific intended causal chain of public action, and formulated an algorithmic language along some instrumental elements (actors, actions, events, logical operators and impact vectors) in order to characterize instruments in an ostensive way. After developing a method to evaluate the newness and the effectivity of any instrument, we could more precisely define an innovative instrument as a new causal chain that is effectively implemented in the technical and social reality. As a corollary, innovating an instrument consists in designing a new causal chain, or modifying the actors and actions in it.Eventually, and in order to apply and test what we called a combinatory design method, we chose to question the innovative nature of the Energy Savings Certificates scheme (ESC). For this purpose, we elaborated an evaluation protocol and formulated several possible lines of innovation

Full textThe railway station is a hinge between the techniques related to transport and the places it serves. Today, it benefits from its image to mark new symbols in the city while ensuring the quality and originality of its spaces to adapt to changing lifestyles, temporalities and urban mobility. European cities are again perceived from their train station. Given their size and spatial organization, as well as the complexity of the relationships they establish with the surrounding neighborhoods, today's European railway stations are to be considered as places with high experimental potential which reflect the time technical advances and their translation into spaces of quality. This study is centered around the question of "Europe of high speed" and innovative and interesting examples of new buildings that symbolize it. lt aims to understand the most innovative programs in terms of interaction between technique, image and use. What are the lessons of their history and how are the stations integrated in their urban contexts ? And also what architectural techniques and programs couId be most suitable for the next evolution of transport for countries that have not yet invested in rail networks ?

Full textThe optimization of the design process is a research evolving highlighted in numerous references and business practices with the aim improving and developing new products. Our approach is a continuation of those activities that takes as its starting point the diversity of existing design processes and the difficulty of achieving a selection where adaptation. Hence our problem is summarized around a central question which we formulate as follows: how to optimize the choice of the design process subject to a constrained environment? The answer to this question is through the proposition of a tool Help in choosing which converges to the installation of a design process. This tool is three-dimensional, where the first dimension relates to the preparation of the upstream design phase, the second dimension selects a design process on a map classification and the objective of the third dimension is the identification of trades tools and methods for product development. The experimental part of our work has led us to validate the developed tool and propose how to use by designers. Optimization is achieved in our work by the proposal of a three-dimensional tool side and the other by the use of optimization algorithms for modeling tool. New avenues of research for improvement are identified and proposed for future work

Full textThe quantity and variety of digital devices available in schools is constantly increasing. However, educational uses have not followed this evolution. The limited use of digital may be explained by the difficulty in creating digital activities. We propose to combine concepts from research related to the creation and conduction of educational activities in the classroom, as well as work related to the conduction of digital activities in a more general way. We present the contributions and limitations of these two conceptual frameworks for the management of digital educational activities. We conducted interviews with teachers to understand how they create their digital activities and how they conduct them. When conducting activities in the classroom, teachers mainly encounter technical problems (unstable network, hardware limitations) and have to adapt their plans to deal with these problems. We propose an adaptable architecture to solve the technical problems. Our architecture allows the conduction of digital activities by taking into account the different constraints: the activities work with or without connection, on the different devices present in the classroom, and the architecture adapts to the infrastructures of the schools. This architecture is materialized in Toccata, an orchestration system allowing the creation and implementation of digital activities in the classroom. Toccata implements the design recommendations we identified. Finally, we identified interaction strategies to help teachers in the management of digital devices in the classroom. Through observations of middle school classrooms, we identified two main classes of tasks: content sharing and remote control of devices. Using an elicitation study, we found that control tasks are easier to perform than content sharing tasks, especially using a device worn like a connected watch. We found that the selection of content sharing devices remained particularly complex in terms of interaction. Our results open new possibilities for managing digital devices in the classroom. However, work is still needed on sharing, reusing, and redesigning digital activities

Full textBiogas. It is an energy source increasingly popular in Europe, remarkably in France, due to its environmental-friendly and economic-saving capabilities. It is produced by the organic matter fermentation, leading to biomethane production, as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. Nevertheless, as a raw gas, pollutants in biogas lead to environmental, health and process-related issues, especially because of its unique content on sulfur compounds. The objective of this research is to develop new processes, economically and environmentally feasible, for biogas desulfurization, seeking a process integration in existing biogas treatment units in France. Considering the state of the art on biogas properties and its possible purification treatments, two processes have been identified and studied in this thesis. The first process is a precombustion desulfurization treatment aiming to eliminate the H2S and the siloxanes through a gas-liquid bubbling-typed polyphasic reactor. This reactor is equipped with a new solvent with “superacid” properties. The second process is a postcombution desulfurization treatment for stack gas, through a gas-solid fixed-bed polyphasic reactor. A prototype of this unit was entirely designed, built and tested in the thesis. This thesis describes the applied research method, the developed numerical models, and the experimental results confirming the efficiency of the novel processes
