Full textThe assembly of the components on the car is the main activity of an automobile final factory. This activity of assembly generates a whole of essential tasks to the good performance of a final factory. It requires a powerful management of internal flows of supplies and in particular the routing of the parts from the warehouse toward the line where they will be assembled on the vehicles. The transport of these parts is ensured by logistic manpower. A crucial point of the internal logistics is the logistic balancing, that is the affectation between the logistic operators of the references to be delivered to the assembly line. The objective of this thesis is to create tools of decision-making aid for logistic balancing. We modelled the activity of a logistic operator taken independently of the other operators, simulated displacements of the operators in the alleys of an assembly workshop, proposed indicators of performances to evaluate the feasibility and the difficulty in holding a logistic station, evaluated the waste of time due to obstructions in the alleys of the workshop, and optimized the distribution of the references between the various logistic operators. We are able thanks to simulation to predict the performances of a given logistic balancing, and more precisely which will be the logistic stations with problems before the installation of this one in the workshop. We also provided an optimization tool which helps the person in charge of the logistic manpower to establish its balancing automaticaly

Full textDuring the design phase of a production system, all functional and technological alternatives should be explored in order to propose the best possible solutions. This often results in a combination of several sub-problems such as: selection of pieces of equipments from a set of candidate solutions for each manufacturing operation, dimensioning and allocation of buffers and storage areas, balancing workload among the different workstations, the specification of the type and capacity of the material handling system and the layout of equipments which consists of determining which workstations should be adjacent to each other and how they should be connected. In this context, we were interested in performance evaluation and optimization of serial production lines which are very common in high volume production systems. We have proposed a new analytical method, known as « Equivalent Machines Method» to evaluate the production line throughput. This method has the advantages to be more accurate and faster than the existing approaches in the literature. We have also established the relevance of this method for evaluating the production rate of series-parallel systems and other serial lines with machines having multiple failure modes. We have also developed a new algorithm based on nonlinear programming approach to solve the buffer allocation problem

Full textIndustry is, today as it has always been, a cornerstone of the economy for any developed country. Having a strong manufacturing base is very important because it impels and stimulates all the other sectors of the economy. It provides a wide variety of job, which bring higher standards of living to many sectors of society, and builds a strong middle class. Increasing global competition, rapid changes in the marketplace and the need to create stable companies with profitable plants require the implementation of a global approach, taking into account technical, economic, logistic and societal aspects in the design of an innovative manufacturing system. The aim of this dissertation is to contribute to the development of an innovative concept of Reconfigurable and Agile Manufacturing Systems (RAMS) to adapt quickly and effectively to the requirements imposed by markets, customers, technology processes, the environment and society, to ensure that the enterprise is dynamic, competitive and profitable. In this thesis work, the characterization and proposal of a generic model for this new type of manufacturing system have been described using the language of complex systems modeling (SysML: Systems Modeling Language). We have developed a reconfiguration process that represents the approach to follow in the design and implementation of a new configuration. In addition, the operational control of a RAMS has been introduced. Finally, some works developed in this thesis have been partially deployed on an industrial demonstrator within the AIP-PRIMECA Auvergne organisation

Full textIn the competitive automotive industry, optimizing production lines is crucial for enhancing efficiency and profitability. This thesis presents a comprehensive solution developed in collaboration with a leading automotive company, tackling three key challenges: assembly sequence planning, resource balancing, and dynamic performance evaluation. The first solution optimizes assembly sequences to minimize resource usage and production costs using reinforcement learning and hierarchical clustering. The second solution addresses assembly line balancing, employing metaheuristic algorithms to reduce cycle time without increasing resources. The third solution improves dynamic production line performance under stochastic events, such as breakdowns and delays, through inventory management and optimal control strategies. Each solution was validated in real industrial environments, demonstrating substantial improvements in production line efficiency and performance

Full textThe work presented in this thesis concerns the formulation and the resolution of two holistic multi-objective optimization problems associated with the selection of the best product and hybrid assembly line configuration out of a set of products, processes and resources alternatives. Regarding the first problem, a cost model was developed in order to translate the complex interdependencies between the selection of specific product designs, processes and resources characteristics. An empirical study is proposed, which aimed at comparing, according to several multi-objective quality indicators, various resolution methods – including variants of evolutionary algorithms, ant colony optimization, particle swarm optimization, bat algorithms, cuckoo search algorithms, and flower-pollination algorithms. Several dominance rules and a problem-specific local search were applied to the most promising resolution methods. Regarding the second problem, which also considers the buffer sizing, the developed algorithms were enhanced with a genetic discrete-event simulation model, whose primary function is to evaluate the value of the various objective functions. The demonstration of the associated resolution frameworks for both problems was validated through two industrial-cases

Full textThis thesis contributes to the research stream of evaluation and optimization of ergonomics in the design phase of manufacturing systems. Poor physical ergonomics in manufacturing systems results in lower productivity, lower motivation, injuries, and increases costs for companies. The main objective of this work is the proposition of optimization methods for manufacturing systems design, with the joint consideration of ergonomics, productivity, and cost. This work focuses on the preliminary design of assembly lines. The challenge is to provide decision-makers with optimization methods to take ergonomics into account while satisfying all technological and economic constraints. The combinatorial problems considered are the assembly line balancing problem and the selection of equipment. We considered a quantitative model of ergonomics based on fatigue and recovery equations taken from the literature. In addition to the combinatorial nature of problems dealt with, the main scientific challenge stems from the non-linear nature of the ergonomics model. We proposed a linearization allowing defining an integer linear program, we developed optimal and approximate resolution approaches. Besides, we proposed a generalization of the approach, with a multi-objective model optimizing cost and ergonomics. We developed a multi-objective algorithm for its resolution.Based on the proposed models and optimization algorithms, we have defined a methodology for the design of assembly lines with the optimization of ergonomics from the design phase. This methodology has been successfully applied to industrial cases

Full text: In a highly competitive and uncertain environment, the automotive industry is facing new challenges to meet customer requirements that are constantly changing. Mass customization caused that product variety increased drastically and consequently, tested the capacity of the existing production systems to cope with this new situation. Convertibility is the ability of the assembly system to cope with product variety with minimum cost. This thesis analyzes the definition and dimensions of convertibility and investigates the change drivers that make convertibility important for the case of automotive assembly lines.Based on industrial practices, a new concept is developed, named AutoConvert, regarding the automotive assembly line convertibility. It analyzes the impact of the introduction of a new variant on the three main elements which compose an assembly system, namely Products, Processes and Resources. Then, three technological indicators’ are built to quantify assembly line convertibility and provide both assembly line and product designers’ with efficient decision-making support tools to support their orientations and choices. A cost study is also conducted in order to complete and consolidate the technological indicators. The relevance of the approach is experimented in real cases from the automotive industry

Full textThe isotope separation on line method allows to produce by spallation, fragmentation or fission reaction, radioactive ion beams far from the valley of stability. A thick target is irradiated by a high intensity primary beam. Therefore, high production can be achieved. The problem is to find target material that releases rapidly at high temperature, the reaction products stopped into the target. This radiochemical method, optimised to work with an ion source, is based on the thermochemical properties as vapour pressure, diffusion and desorption. The delay due to the mass transfer will have some consequences on the production efficiency, and particularly for the short half life isotopes. This technique has been inefficient for the 14 and 16 group elements, which are chemically reactive in their production environment. The introduction of the chemical evaporation can solve the problem. Chemical specie is introduced into the target, allowing the transportation of the element as a molecule towards the ion source. The neutron deficient selenium and sulphur radioactive ion beams and the neutron rich tin beams are of great interest for the physicist community. The goal of my work has been to optimise the target and ion source unit in order to achieve high intensity and purity. First, off line measurements allowed to find target material dealing to a fast release of these isotopes and of several elements. Afterwards, we studied the formation, stability and ionisation of the COSe, COS, SnS and GeS molecules by on line measurements. One advantage of the chemical evaporation method is to obtaine volatile molecules and to reduce isobaric contamination. This thesis has been done in the frame of the EURISOL project. This would construct a new generation accelerator, that would deliver high intensity and high purity ion beams. And this work demonstrates that a chemical physical treatment of isotopes in their environment is crucial

Full textThis thesis presents the different stage of the design and the implementation of an electronic relational multilingual dictionary of proper names for automatic process. A study of different work in the world of electronic dictionaries and in the domain of proper names in linguistic and in NLP has allowed us to propose a modelling of proper names. This modelling is based on an architecture in two parts : a common part for languages and a specific part for a given language. The first part contains a metaconceptual level, which regroups the concepts of type, supertype and existence, and the conceptual part, which regroups the conceptual proper name and four relations (the synonymy, the hyperonymy, the meronymy and the accessibility). The second part contains a linguistic level (prolexeme, aliases, derivatives and relations which depend on a language) and a instances level (with the inflected form of the prolexeme, the aliases and the derivatives). We have implemented our model through a relatoinal database. An interface of consultation (http://tln. Li. Univ-tours. Fr/tln_prolex/prolex. Php) and a collaborative work interface (http://tln. Li. Univ-tours. Fr/tln_prolexbase/) have been developed. We have created two XML format (a format of request and a format of exportation) for the exchange of our data

Full textThe self-reconfiguration capabilities of modern FPGA architectures pave the way for dynamic applications able to adapt to transient events. The CAD flows of modern architectures are nowadays mature but limited by the constraints induced by the complexity of FPGA circuits. In this thesis, multiple contributions are developed to propose an FPGA architecture supporting the dynamic placement of hardware tasks. First, an intermediate representation of these tasks configuration data, independent from their final position, is presented. This representation allows to compress the task data up to 11x with regard to its conventional raw counterpart. An accompanying CAD flow, based on state-of-the-art tools, is proposed to generate relocatable tasks from a high-level description. Then, the online behavior of this mechanism is studied. Two algorithms allowing to decode and create in real-time the conventional bit-stream are described. In addition, an enhancement of the FPGA interconnection network is proposedto increase the placement flexibility of heterogeneous tasks, at the cost of a 10% increase in average of the critical path delay. Eventually, a configurable substitute to the configuration memory found in FPGAs is studied to ease their partial reconfiguration

The objective of this thesis is to illustrate the pros and cons of the OFDM/OQAM compared with the widely used OFDM scheme and further demonstrate the feasibility of using OFDM/OQAM in PLC. The main contributions of this thesis include: 1) PLC channel analysis: we analyze the PLC channel from an information theory point of view; 2) Analytical transmission model: we derive a theoretical transmission model for the OFDM/OQAM system over frequency selective channel; 3) Prototype filter design criteria discussion: different criteria of prototype filter design are discussed in this thesis for PLC; 4) Channel equalization methods: we present two channel equalization methods in this thesis and the efficiency of the presented methods is evaluated by simulations; 5) Capacity analysis: the transmission capacities of the OFDM and the OFDM/OQAM are analyzed/compared in this thesis and the fact that, under the most recent HomePlug AV specifications, the OFDM/OQAM system can, generally, provide higher capacity than the one of OFDM system is shown; 6) Flexibility: we point out two flexibilities in the PLC contex

Full textThe industrial world is continually faced with problems of choices. Multitude of criterion must be taken into account in resolving them. Faced with these situations, the decision making tools give solutions. We will use the Analytic Hierarchy Process in the production field and especially in the scheduling of a cardio vascular prosthesis production line. The initial parameterization of this method involves the evaluation of an expert. Although he has the required knowledge to make a fitting setup, he is no less human and he will bring even unintentionally a subjective part in his decision. The resulting scheduling will therefore not necessarily be optimal. The reduction of the subjectivity can be done using a metaheuristic method, of genetic algorithm type, to improve this parameterization by exploring neighbouring solutions compared to those proposed by the expert

Full textHigh-Mix Low-Volume manufacturing process is characterized by a wide variety of technologies, low production volumes, and short cycle time of products. The introduction of dynamic sampling technique in this system has enabled a significant improvement of production gain. The dynamic sampling is based on the equipment states and the set of products being manufactured. The yield enhancement methods requiring à large number of measurements by product, are no more efficient. In order to adapt the diagnosis method to the new manufacturing environment, this thesis provides a defect source identification method applied to semiconductor manufacturing process. It is composed of three main modules. The first module aim to identify the faulty process equipment. This module is based on the tool commonality analysis approach. The second module consists in sorting the products. A Sequence Alignment Algorithm has been used in order to compare the sample characteristics and to calculate the similarity degree. The third module is a reactive sampling method for the diagnosis. This method is based on a linear optimization algorithm that allows finding the tradeoff between the number of samples and the analysis time. The proposed approach has been approved on real data from STMicroelectronics manufacturing line in Rousset-France

Full textThe starting point of this research is the examination of the meaning and of the scope of the disconnection introduced by the Université en ligne (UEL, Online University) between the design and the potential uses of pedagogical resources in higher education. Based upon the analysis of the digital resources developed within UEL as they appear on screen, this research shows that the conditions for using the resources are not independent from the processes the designers had in mind for using them. The uses, as they were planned, form as many “propositions” making up strategic and industrial schemes from which they get their full meaning. Beyond the case of UEL, the research analyses the conditions upon which the pedagogical resources are used a posteriori by other academics than those who designed them, and directly by students

Full textOn one hand, if the goal is to ensure that the design validation, the manufacturing and the maintenance testing, along with the concurrent error detection are efficiently performed in electronic systems, one is led to integrate the off-line and the on-line testing into circuits. Then, for complex systems to make profit of these two types of tests, such unification must be extended from the circuit to the board and module levels. On the other hand, although the unification of off-line and on-line testing techniques makes possible the design of systems suiting any safety application, the hardware added for increasing the application safety also decreases the system availability and reliability, since the probability of occurrence of faults increases. Faced to these two antagonist aspects, this thesis aims at finding a compromise between the safety and the reliability of complex electronic systems. Thus, firstly we propose a solution to the off-line test and diagnosis problems found in the intermediate steps in the evolution towards boards which are 100% compliant with the IEEE standard for boundary scan testing. An approach for the BIST (Built-In Self-Test) of boundary scan circuits and interconnects then illustrates the ultimate step in the board off-line testing. Next, the UBIST (Unified BIST) scheme - merging BIST and self-checking capabilities for circuit on-line testing, is combined with the IEEE standard for boundary scan testing, in order to obtain a design strategy for unifying the tests of interconnects and circuits populating boards and modules. Finally, we propose a fault-tolerant scheme based on the duplication of these kind of modules which ensures the competitivity of the resulting system in terms of reliability at the same time as preserving the inherent module safety
