Abstract:
Abstract This article offers a corrective to the widely held idea that the modern concept of spirituality is traceable to the seventeenth century French notion of spiritualité. Instead, the argument is made that the sixteenth and seventeenth century Spanish terms spiritual and spiritualidad are earlier expressions of the modern concept of spirituality. The article opens with an examination of the place of spirituality in the academic study of religion and proceeds to a discussion of the premises of conceptual history and modern lexicography. In the closing section, the author analyses a plethora of lexicographical and other primary source material from the medieval to the early modern periods that demonstrate the usage of the terms spirital and espiritualidad in Spain as well as in colonial Latin America. Among the sources examined are Sebastián de Covarrubias Orozco, Tesoro de la lengua castellana (Madrid: Luis Sánchez, 1611); Fernando de Valverde, Vida de Jesu Christo nuestro señor (Lima: Luis de Lyra, 1657); and Diccionario de la lengua castellana (Madrid: En la imprenta de Francisco del Hierro, 1726–1739).

Abstract:
In many of the contemporary writings, the scholars have talked about spirituality as a constant pursuit of humanity throughout history. Throughout history, the search for spirituality has found numerous cultural interpretations, but its critical and comparative study in the global and intercultural context is an emerging phenomenon of the twentieth century. Although many contemporary dictionaries and encyclopedias refer to spiritualism, spiritual associations, and spiritual experiences, or spiritual ways, they are not necessarily included an entry for spirituality in the true sense of the word. Some religions do not have a precise word for the term ‘spirituality’ which derives from the Christian tradition, but nevertheless the notion of spirituality has become popular today and is now used both inside and outside the religions as well as in the inter-faith and secular fields. The tendencies that are common in contemporary times to spirituality emphasize individuality and self-development and have been accompanied by a different understanding of human psychology.

Abstract:
Nolan(1982:7) shares an interesting concept of spirituality. He says: “The Spiritual life is the whole of one’s life insofar as it is motivated and determined by the Holy Spirit, the spirit of Jesus”. This kind of spirituality shapes persons in such a way that they grow into the concept of Ubuntu (humanness). In other words, an integrated spirituality is a spirituality in which who we are, and what we do are intimately related. The process of an African spiritualist is also developed within the village. Mbiti reminds us that: “It takes a whole village to raise a child” (Mbiti 1977:23). In short, relationship is part of development of African spirituality. This article further explores on how elders within the village become leaders, and towards the end of their life journey, they becomes teachers and good ancestors, especially to younger generation. It is important to note that those who are good (while iving) and are able to pass their knowledge and wisdom to others become good ancestors when they die...

Abstract:
AbstractThe author has used - in his paper - two different expressions related to spirituality in its entirety: that is, spirituality (the spiritual sphere in superficial sense and meaning) and spiritualism (the spiritual sphere in deep sense and meaning). The author presented selected different definitions and manifestations of spirituality and spiritualism. The considerations on so-called “spirituality” - related to different phenomena of culture - without notions of spirituality and spiritualism - are a testimony to ordinary, typical common sense thinking only.Author would like to underline, that contemporary professional, spectator sport and the Olympic Games are only a mass culture phenomenon. A phenomenon of mass culture can be only a mirror of superficial spirituality, but not a testimony to spiritualism (that is, deep spirituality). The ancient Olympic Games - in contrast to the concept of Coubertin’s idea of Olympism - were a manifestation of deep spirituality, that is spiritualism. The Greek Games were based on an internal unity between religiosity, art and sport.

Abstract:
Background: Spirituality has always been present in the history of nursing and continues to be a topic of nursing interest. Spirituality has ancient roots. The term ‘spirituality’ is interpreted as spirit and is translated as breath and soul, whereas spirituality (immateriality) is spiritual nature. Historically, the term spirituality is associated with the term religiosity, a definition that persists today, and often the two terms are used interchangeably. In the healthcare context, the construct is still. Objective To clarify the concept of spirituality in nursing. Research design In this article spirituality was explored using Rodgers' evolutionary and inductive method of concept analysis. Participants and research context For this analysis, a sample of 71 articles published in English, from 2008 to 2018 from PubMed/Medline, CINAHL Plus with full text, PsycINFO, SciELO databases were retrieved. It was also accomplished an empirical search of dictionaries and e-books. Ethical considerations This study was conducted according to good scientific practice. Findings It emerged that “spirituality” is a dynamic process and has a range of attributes. The cultural dimensions, the religious and spiritual traditions, the ethnic diversity and the influence of the historical and social contexts represent the societal and historical conditions ingrained in the Western thought that influence the emergence of spirituality as a concept. Antecedents, attributes and onsequences appeared to inform and strengthen one another over time. Spirituality is a significant concept for the discipline of nursing with profound consequences for caring patients and for work organizations.

Abstract:
Since ancient times philosophers have been concerned with the issues of spirituality. The characteristic of the personality from the spirituality viewpoint gives the chance to see in a person the already created moral values. These values are reflected in his/her education and reactions to the arising situations demanding instant actions. It is important to underline that the spiritual world of a man is formed both within the religious and the secular system. In this article, the authors tried to show the difference between spiritualty and morality and to present spirituality from the perspective of such moral values as “freedom” and “conscience”. In this regard, a theoretical analysis was carried out and the definitions of “spirituality” given by philosophers of some epochs were proposed. Moreover, the authors find it necessary to present such concepts as “spirit”, “morality” associated with the concept of “spirituality”, as well as views of some ancient, Western and Russian philosophers. The article also describes spiritual values such as «morality», «freedom», and «conscience». The authors come to the conclusion that conscience is the highest measure of morality, which determines man’s spiritual world and culture.

This article aims to examine the views of Hindu and Buddhist spiritualism related to efforts to deal with environmental damage in Indonesia and try to find common ground between Hindu and Buddhist spiritualism regarding environmental preservation with the teachings of Sufism in Islam. The method used in this article is library research with a descriptive-qualitative approach. The research shows that the ecological damage that has occurred in Indonesia is very worrying. This happens because humans have no concern for their environment, they only focus on taking the maximum benefit for profit alone. Religion has authority in environmental preservation by instilling ethics and morals in humans. Spirituality in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam is aimed at getting closer to God. There is a concept for each religion to increase one's spirituality, namely through bhakti marga yoga in Hinduism, hasta ariya magha in Buddhism, and Sufism in Islamic teachings. The concepts shared by each of these religions have in common to shape one's spirituality which can be reflected in a moral person. Immoral cases such as environmental damage are a big thing that can be solved by increasing one's spirituality.

Abstract:
This article aims to analyze spiritualism education in the Quran. The discussion focuses on four sub-discussions, namely: (1) The meaning of spiritualism in the Quran; (2) spiritual aspects of the Quran; (3) methods of Quran spirituality; and (4) the implications of Quran spirituality. This literature review documents various books, journals, and other research results as data sources. The collected data were then analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results of the study show that the concept of spiritualism in the perspective of the Koran is related to the world of the spirit, close to God, contains mysticism and interiority, and is equated with the essentials. Based on tracing the verses of the Quran, the three dimensions of spirituality in it are the dimension of transcendental, the dimension of norms, and the dimension of values. There are three methods of Quranic spirituality, namely tazakkur (remembrance of Allah), tafakkur (thinking about nature), and tadabbur (thinking about revelations or verses of Allah). The implications of the spirituality of the Koran are manifested in two terms in tasawuf spiritualism, namely al-maqāmat (the path to Sufism) and al-aḥwāl (the Sufi character).

In this regard, an interesting analysis of Christian spirituality in its connection with isihastic anthropology in the study of S. Khoruzhogo. However, the definition of Christian spirituality in this work is absent, although the term itself is used in the form of a synonym of isichasm, which is understood as its tradition and current. The philosopher asserts that the basis of Christian spirituality is the idea of the deification of man, the acquisition of human nature by God. Therefore, Christian spirituality is the deification of man. This statement is an important methodological basis for the study of this phenomenon. The operational aspect of the spiritual experience of asceticism is emphasized, the latter is understood as the continuous work of self-transformation, autotransformation, mystical experience of transcendental and transcendental communication

Abstract:
The delineation of some aspects of the concept of spirituality of upbringing, which is productively studied by the international group of scientists, has been stipulated by the necessity of informing the Ukrainian scientific and educational communities with somewhat diverse position, as to the mentioned phenomenon, that differs from the conventional understanding of such phenomenon in domestic pedagogical theory and practice. For deeper understanding of the essence of the phenomenon of “spirituality of upbringing “we primarily presented such benchmarks of the spiritual realm as general spirituality, that is enshrined in the culture and is characteristic for all members of society, the manifestation of spirituality as an activity of a person in the environment that surrounds him here and now, as well as the personality space of an individual’s spirituality. It is such guidelines that help an individual to realize the sense of the environment and specify the orientation of influence on his spirituality. Considered in such a manner, the spiritual environment can be generally represented as a dynamic phenomenon, existing in the quality of a process, - spirituality of the environment. As to the phenomenon of spirituality of upbringing proper, that is the peculiar upbringing, associated with the sector of education and upbringing environment, there are singled out such phenomena that are inherent to exactly such an environment. In particular, the general spirituality of upbringing, the manifestation of spirituality of upbringing and the space of spirituality of upbringing, that also embrace the context of the spirituality of upbringing. The notion of the phenomenon of spirituality of upbringing is the ratio of freedom of a personality and spirituality of the environment. As to spirituality of the teaching activities, as a further aspect of the concept of spirituality of upbringing, it has been stressed that upbringing, being inseparable from the environment, surrounding an individual, facilitates its integration into peculiar environment – the pedagogic reality, based on spiritual heritage of the nation and reveals possibilities of such experience in the practice of contemporary pedagogical process. The special attention in this article is given to understanding of the specific features of the context characteristics of the investigated phenomenon of spirituality. In the existing, classical system of education and upbringing the notion of spirituality is associated with upbringing of spirituality of the younger generation by means of any subject, or through the system of educational activities. Thus, the upbringing of spirituality serves as a partial task, not as an overall conceptual problem of upbringing. The mentioned diversities form the basis for understanding and realizing the fact that in a democratic society it is expedient to reconstruct the process of humanization of pedagogic reality keeping the focus on spirituality of upbringing. Hence, the shift of paradigm of education and humanization (inspiration) of its environment, is advisable to be represented in the context of the conceptual principles of the phenomenon of spirituality of upbringing.

Abstract:
A recent discovery in psychology that is very amazing is that the central brain is active when a person's personality and spirituality can function as a balancer between the roles of the soul and the physical. In this context, Badiuzzaman Said Nursi initiated a concept of how to develop the development of one's personality and spirituality in psychology as a solution to the problems faced by humanity today in the form of globalization, westernization, secularization and liberalization which makes humans lose direction and grip on life. Therefore, human personality and spirituality are easily swayed. This research is a qualitative research, by taking library data as the object of research. Furthermore, using descriptive-analytic method as an analytical knife in drawing conclusions. The results of this study are that the development of a person's personality and spirituality cannot be separated from religious and divine aspects. According to Badiuzzaman Said Nursi, the concept of the development of one's personality in psychology is divided into four ways, namely: (1) Confession of one's helplessness before God Almighty, (2) Confession of self-poverty towards God Almighty, (3) Expecting God's love , (4) Doing reflection or meditation. While the concept of developing one's spirituality in psychology is also divided into four ways, namely: (1) Through the light of faith in God, (2) Through holistic devotion (worship) to God, (3) Manifesting God's asthma that is reflected in them, and (4) Following the way of the Qur'an or the way of nature. Abstract:
BACKGROUND: There is robust literature on spirituality in nursing. Despite the unique needs of those with serious mental illness, there has been little exploration of spirituality in the context of nursing care for this population. Lacking a well-defined concept of spirituality in psychiatric care, mental health nurses often struggle to provide optimal, holistic care. AIMS: The aim of this concept analysis was to review definitions and descriptions of spirituality in the psychiatric nursing literature to synthesize a usable definition to inform practice and provide a basis for future study. METHOD: Beth Rodgers’s evolutionary concept analysis method was followed to inductively derive a definition of spirituality in psychiatric nursing care. Steps included identification of the concept, setting, and sample; synthesis of key attributes, antecedents, and consequences from the literature; and a discussion of implications. A search in the psychiatric nursing literature (1998-2019) included literature reviews, case studies, concept analyses, qualitative interview studies, and quantitative survey research. RESULTS: Spirituality in psychiatric nursing was defined by attributes of a search for life meaning and purpose and a sense of connectedness. Spirituality in the practice of psychiatric nursing was a result of value-influenced thinking and a capability for interaction with others. Consequences included consolation and positive or negative coping. CONCLUSIONS: A clearly defined concept of spirituality in psychiatric nursing can provide a basis for clinical confidence for nurses in identifying patient spiritual needs and choosing appropriate interventions to support those needs.

Among them, the social dimension is proposed as the concept of Buddhist religiosity, and the personal dimension is proposed as the concept of spirituality. Through this, I argued that the origin of Buddhist religiosity lies in the Proclamation. And I found the specific meaning of 'Buddhist spirituality' in the concept of kusala, and revealed that 'eightfold path' is suitable as a specific method of Buddhist spiritual education. [Conclusions] Buddhist religiosity is related to the identity of Buddhism pursued by the Buddha, and it is the 'socialization of enlightenment' shown in the 'Proclamation'. Spirituality, as a life-changing principle, is the process of enlightenment: religiosity manifests as a function of socialization and healing, while spirituality manifests as inner wholeness.

Abstract:
Disability as a concept has been defined and explained from different perspectives over the years and cannot be regarded just with an individual focus. It should also be considered environmentally and socially. Spirituality and religion have a significant importance culturally for people with disabilities. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explain the term disability in detail, its religious and spiritual aspects, and the use of these concepts in the rehabilitation process. Research has demonstrated spirituality and religion to be two terms that are a powerful and effective personal resource for accepting and dealing with issues regarding disability. According to studies, individuals have furthermore reported having a disability to provide them with a benefit of gaining a different point of view toward life. Because religion and spirituality are vital psychological resources that cannot be underestimated, they have been used in rehabilitation psychology as a coping mechanism. For this reason, this paper aims to provide knowledge about the concept of disability, its relationship with religion and spirituality, and its use in rehabilitation psychology.

In our time, repeatedly appealing to such a concept as spirituality is very relevant. We can hear him from the mouth of a people's deputy and from the conversation of a simple worker. As a consequence - increasing attention to its analysis from the side of philosophical thought, attempts of scientific exploitation, the tendency to include in the circle of philosophical categories. "In a number of close concepts - consciousness, psyche, morality, reasonableness - the concept of spirituality belongs a special place. In the broad sense, spirituality is a manifestation of the internal state of the individual, or rather the orientation of his consciousness, which carries out a motivated inclusion in the social life from within "

Abstract:
Abstract This paper tries to refine triple bottem line concept by rearranging the relations between triple P dimensions and spirituality, which is then called circle bottom line. Circle bottom line includes three dimensions, namely people (social), planet (environment), profit (economy) based on the dimensions of spirituality in measurement. The dimension of spirituality used is religious spirit. In this case the concept of Eco-Theology of Islam includes three principles, namely tawhīd (unity of all beings), amānah-khalīfah (honesty-leadership), and ākhirah (responsibility). The inter-dimensional relationship of circle bottom line based on Islamic principles in the Eco-Theology of Islam is then used as the basis for the application of social-environmental accounting.

Abstract:
The expression of attachment to the divine in certain places among different groups has been documented by anthropologists and sociologists for decades. However, the psychological processes by which this happens are not yet fully understood. This article focuses on the concept of ‘place spirituality’ as a psychological mechanism, which allows the religious believer or non-believer to achieve an organised attachment strategy, involving the interplay of place and spiritual attachment. First, place spirituality is considered as an experience that satisfies the attachment relationship criteria in that geographic places and divine entities can be perceived as ‘objects’ of attachment. Second, it is proposed that the maturational aspects of the attachment repertoire in adults make the place spirituality experience possible since adults’ cognitive abilities are much wider than those of children and can include relationships to geographical spaces and invisible divine entities. Finally, the theme of place spirituality is explored to further position the concept as a relational paradigm for understanding the relationship between place experiences and spiritual attachment.

Abstract:
Background. For years, researchers have sought to provide a clear definition of spirituality and its features and consequences, but the definitions provided of this concept still lack transparency. The present qualitative research was conducted to clarify this concept within the religious-cultural context of Iran.Materials and Methods. The present conventional qualitative content analysis was conducted with an inductive approach. Data were collected through semistructured interviews with 17 spiritual health experts and activists selected through purposive sampling.Results. Three themes emerged from the analysis of the data, including (1) the structure of spirituality, (2) defects in the conceptualization of spirituality, and (3) spirituality in practice, which are explained in this paper with their relevant subthemes and codes. The definition which this study proposes for this concept is that “spirituality is the sublime aspect of human existence bestowed on all humans in order for them to traverse the path of transcendence that is closeness to God (Allah).”Conclusion. The definition provided by this study is similar to the previous definitions of this concept in its main part (transcendence) and in incorporating a God-centered view of spirituality within the context of an Islamic society. This definition has implications for health services’ education, research, and practice in similar societies.

People with mental health problem in Malaysia require access to spiritual care from their mental health services. However, the literature, which is dominated by Western scholars, brings the broad conception of spirituality into debate, which does not fit the paradigm of the religious worldview in countries such as Malaysia. This paper provides a narrative overview of the tensions inherent in the concept of spirituality as delivered in the literature. It begins a discussion on the place of spirituality in mental health care while highlighting the problematic concept of spirituality currently seen in the literature. This paper thus provides recommendations for future research on the need for particularising the concept of spirituality within mental healthcare in Malaysia.

Abstract:
This study employed a grounded theory research design to develop a theoretical model focused on the maturation of spirituality and its influence on behavior during late adolescence. Quantitative research studies have linked spirituality with decreased health-risk behaviors and increased health-promotion behaviors during late adolescence. Qualitative, theoretical data is proposed to discover the underlying reasons this relationship exists and increase the ability to apply this knowledge to practice. Twenty-one adolescents, age 16–21 years, were e-mail interviewed and transcripts analyzed using a conceptual lens of Blumer’s symbolic interactionism. From this analysis, a theoretical model emerged with the core concept, finding myself, that represents 5 core process concepts. Implications of this study illustrate that late adolescents are aware of their personal spiritual maturation as well as its influence on behavior. In addition, a distinction between the generic concept of spirituality, personal spirituality, and religion emerged.

Abstract:
This essay focuses on the proliferation of diverse spiritualities in Victorian Britain in the second half of the nineteenth century, including Theosophy, neopaganism, spiritualism, and emerging occult practices. It makes the case that this proliferation of spiritual thought emerged not in opposition to, but rather in harmony with, the ascendancy of scientific naturalist frameworks in the wake of Darwinism, and that the flexibility of “spirituality” as a concept serves a crucial function for understanding this late Victorian religious landscape. As a (very brief) case study, it examines the fusion of the spiritual and scientific in Marie Corelli's late Victorian bestseller, A Romance of Two Worlds (1886). Her work, I suggest, highlights the key role of new popular genres of speculative fiction in navigating the boundaries between spirit and matter at the fin de siècle.

Abstract:
Charles Taylor’s monumental study on our ‘secular time’ comprehends promising theoretical aspects for current research on ‘new spirituality’. In the article I elaborate this with respect to Taylor’s concept of spirituality. He regards spirituality as a lived experience of fullness, that may spring off different, also non-religious sources, and that is to be characterized by a certain degree of ambivalence. In the article I give three examples how Taylor’s concept of spirituality may contribute to theoretical discussions in the sociology of religion. In the first place, the notion of functional equivalents of religion may be questioned because it conceals the differences between spiritual sources and the historical shifts in the underlying spirituality and the contexts in which it is lived. Secondly, the assumption of a stable demand of religion as part of the religious market theory seems to neglect the diversity of spiritual sources and the possibility of low spiritual or religious needs. Finally, Taylor’s concept of spirituality sheds light on the confusing opposition between religiosity and (new) spirituality.

Abstract:
The critical review of the literature describes the definition clarity of spirituality, religion, and faith. These three terms are interchangeably used in the literature. However, each of these terms has its own definitions. For example, the term spirituality has more than 13 conceptual components. It is abstract and subjective and is different from religion and faith. Spirituality can be a connection to God, nature, others, and surrounding. Spirituality is associated with quality and meaning in life. Conversely, religion is attributed to traditional values and practices related to a certain group of people or faith. Religion is guided by tradition, rules, and culture. Religion is defined as a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices. Religion is the service or worship of God or the supernatural. Faith is often associated with religion and spirituality. Faith is more personal, subjective, and deeper than organized religion and relates to the relationship with God. The concept of spirituality lacks a professional understanding. It is imperative that the holistic view of nursing must strive to understand the definition of spirituality.
