Abstract:

For the purpose of studying the influence of fiber on the negative Poisson’s ratio effect of foam concrete, a concave hexagonal unit cell structure of polypropylene fiber foam concrete was proposed. The effects of different fiber volume contents on the structural mechanical parameters, Poisson’s ratio, and energy absorption capacity of the unit cells were studied by static compression of concave hexagonal unit cells and cube specimens. The results show that the compressive strength of foam concrete is reduced by adding polypropylene fiber, and the peak stress of concave hexagonal unit cells decreases less rapidly than that of cube specimens. The proper amount of polypropylene fiber can enhance the deformation ability of the unit cells in foam concrete, and the Poisson’s ratio of the unit cells in foam concrete with 1.5% fiber content is the lowest. In the process of failure of concave hexagonal unit cells, the failure phenomenon is mainly concentrated on the concave surfaces on both sides, and the cracks are distributed in the form of “upper left and lower right” or “lower left and upper right”. When the content of polypropylene fiber is 0.5%, the total energy absorbed by the concave hexagonal cells in the compression deformation process increases by 12.98%.

Abstract:

Purpose The spatial feature is important for scene saliency detection. Scene-based visual saliency detection methods fail to incorporate 3D scene spatial aspects. This paper aims to propose a cube-based method to improve saliency detection through integrating visual and spatial features in 3D scenes. Design/methodology/approach In the presented approach, a multiscale cube pyramid is used to organize the 3D image scene and mesh model. Each 3D cube in this pyramid represents a space unit similar to a pixel in the image saliency model multiscale image pyramid. In each 3D cube color, intensity and orientation features are extracted from the image and a quantitative concave–convex descriptor is extracted from the 3D space. A Gaussian filter is then used on this pyramid of cubes with an extended center-surround difference introduced to compute the cube-based 3D scene saliency. Findings The precision-recall rate and receiver operating characteristic curve is used to evaluate the method and other state-of-art methods. The results show that the method used is better than traditional image-based methods, especially for 3D scenes. Originality/value This paper presents a method that improves the image-based visual saliency model.

Abstract:

Mercury, as one type of toxic heavy metal, represents a great threat to environmental and biological metabolic systems. Thus, reliable and sensitive quantitative detection of mercury levels is particularly meaningful for environmental protection and human health. We proposed a high-throughput single-particle color imaging strategy under dark-field microscopy (DFM) for mercury ions (Hg2+) detection by using individual concave cube Au nanoparticles as optical probes. In the presence of ascorbic acid (AA), Hg2+ was reduced to Hg which forms Au–Hg amalgamate with Au nanoparticles, altering their localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images demonstrated that the concave cube Au nanoparticles were approaching to sphere upon increasing the concentration of Hg2+. The nanoparticles underwent an obvious color change from red to yellow, green, and finally blue under DFM due to the shape-evolution and LSPR changes. In addition, we demonstrated for the first time that the LSPR of Au–Hg amalgamated below 400 nm. Inspired by the above-mentioned results, single-particle color variations were digitalized by converting the color image into RGB channels to obtain (green+blue)/red intensity ratios [(G+B)/R]. The concentration-dependence change was quantified by statistically analyzing the (G+B)/R ratios of a large number of particles. A linear range from 10 to 2000 nM (R2 = 0.972) and a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.857 nM were acquired. Furthermore, many other metal ions, like Cu2+, Cr3+, etc., did not interfere with Hg2+ detection. More importantly, Hg2+ content in industrial wastewater samples and in the inner regions of human HepG2 cells was determined, showing great potential for developing a single-particle color imaging sensor in complex biological samples using concave cube Au nanoparticles as optical probes.

Abstract:

Geduldspiele cubes (also known as patience cubes in English) are interesting problems to solve with robotic systems on the basis of machine learning approaches. Generally, highly dexterous hand and finger movement is required to solve them. In this paper, we propose a reinforcement-learning-based approach to solve simple geduldspiele cubes of a flat plane, a convex plane, and a concave plane. The key idea of the proposed approach is that we adopt a sim-to-real framework in which a robotic agent is virtually trained in simulation environment based on reinforcement learning, then the virtually trained robotic agent is deployed into a physical robotic system and evaluated for tasks in the real world. We developed a test bed which consists of a dual-arm robot with a patience cube in a gripper and the virtual avatar system to be trained in the simulation world. The experimental results showed that the virtually trained robotic agent was able to solve simple patience cubes in the real world as well. Based on the results, we could expect to solve the more complex patience cubes by augmenting the proposed approach with versatile reinforcement learning algorithms.

Abstract:

The control of the shape of the optical part surface by the interference method has become an integral part of the process of their shaping. With a precisely focused interferometer interferometry allows obtaining an interference pattern similar to a topographic map of the error profile of the wave surface under investigation. The interferometer must form a map of the optical surface with high accuracy --- the permissible distortion of the interference fringe caused by an interferometer error should not exceed 0.1 of the distortion value caused by an error on the examined surface. The dependence of the interference pattern formation on the errors in the arrangement of the interferometer components, i.e., defocusing, was theoretically analyzed using Fourier transforms. The analysis was performed for an interferometer containing a laser illuminator, a concave spherical mirror with a central hole, coaxial to the illuminator, and a beamsplitting element in the form of a cube-prism with a semitransparent hypotenuse face. On the first flat face of the cube-prism, a microspherical concave mirror is made with the center located on the optical axis of the interferometer. A method for calculating the defocusing of a controlled spherical mirror and the corresponding wave aberration of the working wavefront is presented. An example of calculating the design parameters of the interferometer and the permissible defocusing of the controlled spherical mirror is given

Abstract:

The aim of the present study was to verify the hypothesis that cavity design does not affect the strength of direct composite restorations as do material properties. Finite element modeling (FEM) and empirical testing were done for two cavity designs: a box shape (cube) and a concave shape (U). Two microhybrid composites were used to prepare the samples with the help of split stainless steel moulds. Compressive strength was tested. The results were statistically analyzed. Both FEA and empirical testing were complementary to each other in that the concave shape showed a significantly higher strength than box. Material properties affected the values only when box shape was used. The null hypothesis is thus rejected, and it is concluded that design significantly affects the strength of direct composite restorations.

Abstract:

Nowadays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the key, noninvasive modalities to detect and stage cancer which benefits from contrast agents (CA) to differentiate healthy from tumor tissue. An innovative class of MRI CAs is represented by Gd-loaded gold nanoparticles. The size, shape and chemical functionalization of Gd-loaded gold nanoparticles appear to affect the observed relaxation enhancement of water protons in their suspensions. The herein reported results shed more light on the determinants of the relaxation enhancement brought by Gd-loaded concave cube gold nanoparticles (CCGNPs). It has been found that, in the case of nanoparticles endowed with concave surfaces, the relaxivity is remarkably higher compared to the corresponding spherical (i.e., convex) gold nanoparticles (SPhGNPs). The main determinant for the observed relaxation enhancement is represented by the occurrence of a large contribution from second sphere water molecules which can be exploited in the design of high-efficiency MRI CA.

Keller and Kindler recently established a quantitative version of the famous Benjamini–Kalai–Schramm theorem on the noise sensitivity of Boolean functions. Their result was extended to the continuous Gaussian setting by Keller, Mossel and Sen by means of a Central Limit Theorem argument. In this work we present a unified approach to these results, in both discrete and continuous settings. The proof relies on semigroup decompositions together with a suitable cut-off argument, allowing for the efficient use of the classical hypercontractivity tool behind these results. It extends to further models of interest such as families of log-concave measures and Cayley and Schreier graphs. In particular we obtain a quantitative version of the Benjamini–Kalai–Schramm theorem for the slices of the Boolean cube.

Abstract:

A novel ternary Cu2O/BiVO4/RGO photocatalyst is successfully constructed by hydrothermal and evaporation-induced method, and it exhibits superior photocatalytic performance for degradation tetracycline (TC). Meanwhile, the visible light absorption range of composite photocatalyst is effectively broadened by the formation of heterojunction with narrow band gap semiconductor Cu2O. And the separation efficiency of the photogenerated electron–hole pairs is significantly enhanced by the synergistic effect of Cu2O and RGO. More importantly, the adsorption of TC by ternary Cu2O/BiVO4/RGO possesses high adsorption capacity, which is 23.73 times higher than that of pure BiVO4. Additionally, the possible reaction mechanism is clearly revealed by radical trapping experiment, electron spin-resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. This work provides a new insight to design a photocatalyst with excellent adsorption to remove organic contaminants in water.

Abstract:

With the assistance of diethylenetriamine(DETA), well-crystalline PbSe cuboidal structures with different concave faces in each plane have been successfully prepared through a hydrothermal process using Na2SeO3 as selenium source at 180 °C for 48 h. The products have been characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy and luminescence spectroscopy. The field emission scanning electron microscopy showed that the edge lengths of these cuboidal crystals ranged from 1.5 to 2.5 µm, and the edges of a cube crystal extend outwards from its core with a tiny cubic center leaving step-like faces. The shape evolution of PbSe crystal from eight-dendritic structure to cuboidal structure was observed and the possible growth mechanism was proposed. Results revealed that the temperature played a crucial role in the final morphology of PbSe microstructures, and other factors such as the solvent composition and the molar ratio of metal/chalcogen were also discussed. The photoluminescence (PL) spectrum of as-prepared PbSe crystals shows the photoluminescence emission spectrum consists of a main intense peak at 435 nm and a shoulder at 420 nm. This synthesis method could be extended to the morphogenesis of other inorganic crystals with complex forms.

Long-term cooking may reduce the eating and nutritional quality attributes of meat products due to excessive oxidation. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of concave induction to improve the quality of braised pork belly. Pork belly cubes were subjected to concave induction cooking (2000 W) or plane induction cooking (2000 W, traditional) for 60 min, 90 min, 120 min or 150 min. Then texture, fatty acid profile, lipid and protein oxidation, volatile flavor and sensory test in braised meat were evaluated. Compared with traditional method, concave induction cooking showed higher heating performance with shorter time to achieve a setting temperature. Compared with traditional cooking for 150 min, concave induction cooking for 60 min did not only produce a comparable volatile flavor and sensory scores, but also give better quality attributes, including lower hardness, chewiness, thrombogenicity values, PUFA/SFA value, lipid and protein oxidation. E‑nose results showed that samples cooked by concave induction for 60 min and 90 min showed a great similarity to those cooked by plane induction for 150 min. Concave induction cooking for 60 min also showed advantages to retain higher abundances of other volatile compounds including 2-pentylfuran, (E, E)-3,5-octadien‑2- one, 2, 3-octanedione, 2-decahydro‑1,6- dimethylnaphthalene when compared with plane induction cooking for 150 min.

Sin embargo, la legislación que regula este proceso no concibe a las cooperativas de consumo, aun cuando las dificultades para el consumo de artículos vitales para las personas resultan evidentes. Por tanto, el objetivo de este trabajo es fundamentar los presupuestos teóricos en que debe sustentarse la regulación jurídica de las cooperativas en Cuba, a fin de que conciba a las cooperativas de consumo como un medio para la satisfacción de las necesidades de sus asociados y de la comunidad. Para ello se parte de una aproximación a la definición de las cooperativas de consumo. A continuación, se analizan las actuales limitaciones jurídicas para la instrumentación de este tipo de cooperativas en Cuba, y se termina argumentando los presupuestos teórico-jurídicos para este propósito. Introducción: En la actualidad se reconoce el papel activo del estudiante en la construcción del conocimiento y se le concede gran importancia a la publicación científica desde el pregrado. Objetivo: Describir la producción científica estudiantil en las revistas biomédicas indexadas en SciELO Cuba durante los años 2015 y 2016. Método: Se realizó un estudio bibliométrico descriptivo considerando como unidad de análisis los artículos publicados electrónicamente en las revistas biomédicas indexadas en la colección SciELO-Cuba. Se estudiaron las siguientes variables: nombre de la revista, factor de impacto, artículo con participación estudiantil, tipología, año de publicación, tipo de autoría, número de estudiantes por artículo, universidad, país, carrera, año académico y ayudantía. Resultados: En 18 revistas (58.06%) no se encontraron artículos con autoría estudiantil, y fue la Revista Médica Electrónica (n = 13; 6.13%) la publicación con más artículos con participación estudiantil. Se publicaron 3,736 artículos, de los cuales 55 (1.47%) tuvieron participación estudiantil, con una contribución, en su mayoría, como coautores (85.45%). Existió predominio de artículos originales (n = 24; 43.64%) y se contabilizaron 85 autores estudiantiles, de los cuales 51 (60.0%) fueron estudiantes de medicina. Conclusiones: La producción científica estudiantil en las revistas biomédicas indexadas en SciELO Cuba es baja y no se corresponde con la elevada matrícula deestudiantes de las carreras de ciencias de la salud así como con las numerosas revistas indexadas en esta base de datos y las aspiraciones de la educación médica superior cubana.

El comercio electrónico consiste en la compra y venta de productos o de servicios a través de medios electrónicos, como Internet y otras redes informáticas. Constituye uno de los ámbitos de mayor investigación científica y más actividad en la creación de marcos normativo-legales. Concede en el domicilio de una persona una gran oferta de bienes y servicios de forma sencilla y rápida. Entre esos bienes que se pueden adquirir están las obras de arte. Hoy día, marchantes y galerías de arte cuentan con un sitio en Internet que les permite enlazar con mercados virtuales. El comprador y el vendedor puedan encontrarse rápidamente desde dos ubicaciones geográficas distantes. Cuba es un país que no queda ajeno a esta dinámica, pues los autores de obras plásticas viabilizan la comercialización de sus creaciones utilizando el Internet. Pero, si bien el comercio electrónico representa muchísimas facilidades para el binomio artista-cliente, su uso trae aparejado inconvenientes legales e inseguridad jurídica. Por tanto, la presente investigación se circunscribe a la descripción de la situación de iure y de facto sobre el comercio electrónico de obras plásticas cubanas. Todo ello motivado por una cuestión que cada vez más cobra auge en la práctica: el aumento del interés en el arte cubano, ya sea por inversión o goce estético.

En la presente investigación se efectúa un análisis de la protección constitucional cubana a los derechos morales de la personalidad: honor, intimidad e imagen. Inicialmente se realiza un breve estudio doctrinal, en sentido general, de los derechos inherentes a la personalidad, al estar incluidos en estos los de la esfera moral. Este examen nos permite adentrarnos en el tratamiento que se les otorga constitucionalmente en Cuba, tratando de ilustrar la tutela que se les concede en nuestro sistema socialista. Se expone la evolución histórica en los textos constitucionales que han regido en el decursar de la sociedad. Posteriormente, se hace referencia a la regulación que ofrece la Constitución cubana actual, para lo cual se sistematizan los preceptos relacionados con manifestaciones a los derechos morales de la personalidad; y finalmente, se analiza la vía de protección constitucional y se propone un procedimiento para amparar estos derechos.

El turismo se concibe como una vía muy importante para el desarrollo económico de diferentes territorios por los elevados beneficios económicos que proporciona. Sin embargo, en muchas ocasiones estos territorios presentan alta sensibilidad y corren el peligro de degradarse si no se utilizan adecuadamente. Un ejemplo claro de esto puede ser apreciado en las pequeñas islas que conforman el Archipiélago Jardines del Rey, al norte de la isla de Cuba. Para lograr que el turismo pueda desarrollarse en áreas de este tipo, sin menoscabo de su valor intrínseco, es muy importante el análisis de los "potenciales"de las unidades que conforman estas islas, y de las restricciones a las que debe acomodarse la actividad turística. En el trabajo se expone la metodología utilizada para el análisis y los resultados obtenidos, y se proponen los usos potenciales y la intensidad de uso decada unidad de estudio.

Abstract:

En el artículo se analiza la influencia del rumor en la construcción de la agenda mediática de la provincia de Camagüey, Cuba. Se identificaron y caracterizaron los rumores que alcanzaron relevancia en la agenda pública durante los meses de noviembre de 2013 a abril de 2014; también se estudió su empleo como fuente de información en los medios provinciales y las mediaciones que intervinieron en dicho proceso. Como técnicas de investigación, se emplearon la observación participante y no participante, la entrevista semiestructurada y el análisis de contenido cualitativo. El principal resultado que se pudo constatar fue la poca importancia que se le concede a los rumores en la construcción de la agenda de los medios del territorio debido a la mediación de factores de tipo individual, organizacional e ideológico.

Como respuesta a los imaginarios insulares previamente esbozados por escritores de la literatura cubana del siglo XX, Virgilio Piñera concibe un hablante lírico a quien le es asignada la tarea de precisar la historia mítica de un país llamado Cuba. Apostando por un lenguaje económico, y por momentos antipoético, en “La isla en peso” se describe una ciudad que es posible por la infatigable presencia de la luz. Sin embargo, esta ubicuidad luminosa, aunque permite atestiguar las actividades de la ciudad habanera, se acaba transformando en un elemento persecutorio que, auxiliado por el mar y el entretenimiento, conforman una suerte de “historia-histeria”. Ante tal escenario, esta voz lírica, movida por un impulso mesiánico, hace hincapié en una serie de elementos que, a su juicio, han propiciado la inestabilidad del lugar representado. Se trata, pues, de un entorno en donde el hábitat opresor domina el hábito carnavalesco y, a su vez, en donde el hábito reconoce al hábitat por sus trampas naturales.

Globally the burden due to mental disorders is continuously increasing. Still, professional help-seeking behavior is not fully understood. To conceive cultural determinants of help-seeking is crucial to reduce personal and social costs of (untreated) mental disorders. The current study investigates mental health stigma and help-seeking attitudes in a Cuban (n = 195) and a German (n = 165) sample. In a questionnaire survey we asked for attitudes towards mental illness and professional help-seeking in the general Cuban and German populations. The cultural context was associated with mental health stigma and professional help-seeking attitudes. Interestingly, Cuban participants reported stronger mental health stigma and more willingness to seek help. In multiple hierarchical regression analyses, community attitudes towards the mentally ill significantly predicted help-seeking attitudes, especially in the Cuban sample. Only in the German sample, more negative individual beliefs about mental illness predicted more self-stigma on help-seeking. Beyond that, cultural context moderated the association between mental health stigma and help-seeking attitudes with a stronger association between the measures in the German sample. However, gender did not predict help-seeking attitudes and self-stigma on help-seeking and no interactions between community attitudes, cultural context, and gender were found in the prediction of help-seeking attitudes. Similarities and differences between the samples are discussed in the light of the cultural contexts and peculiarities of the current samples. Concluding, implications of the current findings are reviewed.

Actualmente en Cuba se desarrolla la Tercera Revolución Educacional, etapa de perfeccionamiento superior a la etapa anterior, la que ha sido el resultado de las diversas investigaciones y aportes realizados por investigadores cubanos a todo lo largo y ancho del país. Como elemento particular para cada etapa ha predominado un enfoque educativo basado en las ideas de nuestro Héroe Nacional José Martí, combinado por el carácter humanista que se le concede a la educación. Con ello, se perfeccionan todos los sistemas educativos, en el que la Educación Primaria es la base para el aprendizaje de todos los educandos. El propósito fundamental es ofrecer una educación de calidad a la diversidad, condicionado por las estrategias que se diseñen a partir de los resultados del diagnóstico integral. De aquí la importancia de esta investigación que se traza como objetivo ofrecer sugerencias didácticas acerca de cómo enseñar a leer y escribir atendiendo las diferencias individuales de cada uno de los educandos con y sin necesidades educativas especiales que asisten a un mismo grupo clase.

El dinámico desarrollo de las redes datos en el mundo ha traído consigo la investigación y desarrollo de nuevos servicios encaminados a suplir las necesidades de comunicación en un mundo cada vez más exigente. Actualmente existen diferentes tecnologías que mejoran las comunicaciones a todos los niveles. En el presente trabajo se concibe desarrollar un sistema de Voz sobre Protocolo de Internet (VoIP, del inglés Voice over Internet Protocol) para brindar servicio de telefonía a las Comunicaciones, Señalización, Electricidad e Informática (COSIE) en la División Centro de Ferrocarriles de Cuba. Se caracterizan brevemente los protocolos y estándares para establecer servicios VoIP así como las herramientas que permiten la implementación de esta tecnología. Por tanto, se hace la propuesta del sistema para establecer llamadas desde un teléfono convencional a una PC; desde un teléfono IP a una PC, también a un teléfono convencional y llamadas múltiples entre todos los elementos del sistema. De esta manera se evalúan los resultados para cada uno de los escenarios usando herramientas de simulación. La propuesta tiene un alto significado para las comunicaciones ferroviarias y para los directivos, teniendo en cuenta que el alcance incluye las tres provincias centrales del país.
