Abstract:
Demonstration Project 89 on Quality Management was created to provide guidance on the use of practical and effective procedures to assure that the level of quality designed into the plans and specifications is actually achieved in the constructed product. One part of this effort is the distribution of a software package consisting of several interactive programs developed for use on the personal computer. These extremely user-friendly programs make it possible to analyze both pass/fail and pay adjustment acceptance procedures, construct operating characteristic curves, plot control charts, experiment with computer simulation, perform statistical comparisons of data sets, demonstrate the unreliability of decisions based on a single test result, and explore the effectiveness of stratified random sampling. This comprehensive software package provides highway engineers with the necessary tools to learn why some statistical procedures are inherently superior to others and how to incorporate this knowledge into fair and effective construction specifications.

Abstract:
The present study suggests a method of integrating user performance and attitudes toward the computer system into the quality control procedures (QCP). The objective of this approach is to enable the decision makers to manage by exceptions (MBE) and thus be more effective and more efficient. Accordingly, this study computes the correlations between performance related variables and users' attitudes. The computer facility management will investigate only systems whose users have demonstrated performance or attitudes below a desirable minimum level and thus manage by exception. Likewise, the relationship between performance and attitude will be investigated.

Abstract:
The introduction of state-of-the-art on-line meters is the first step towards achieving more intelligent operation of wastewater treatment plants as the directly involved parameters are known. The use of these on-line measurements is dependent on the reliability of the data, which is the control system STAR, Superior Tuning and Reporting, is secured by DQC, Data Quality Control. With reliable measurements combined with selected operational data, it is possible to identify process relations and implement on-line control strategies such as those performed by STAR today in oxygen set point control, intermittent aeration control and recirculation control. Some of the STAR control functions are based on a certain kind of calculations described as software sensors, where information is achieved from qualified data and statistical data handling. Software sensors give an improved basis for on-line control strategies. These model-based “sensors” are available in an advanced process control systems such as STAR. The results compiled at the Sydkysten WWTP show that the introduction of STAR control affords larger economies than expected. Today, the amount of energy consumed at the plant has been reduced by 30% and the dosing of carbon for denitrification by 100%. The economies achieved run into approx. DKK 470,000 per year and the new expense relating to the operation and maintenance of meters is, by comparison, DKK 55,000.

Abstract:
This article describes how entrepreneurs face critical risks in terms of quality control and knowledge management while outsourcing software development to independent service providers. First, it is recommended that lump-sum payment contracts should be avoided since software development project involves uncertainty. Instead, a variable payment contingent on observed quality can induce the service provider to exert optimal effort on the project. Second, entrepreneurs must not overlook the importance of providing economic incentives. They can protect their intellectual property by withholding critical knowledge and paying information rents in terms of higher than market wages to the service providers. Third, a startling result is that a low wage nation is not necessarily the optimal location to outsource software development projects. Thus, high wage-strong IPR nations might be chosen instead of low wage-weak IPR nations. Finally, the article explains the apparent paradox that software projects are often outsourced to locations that are characterized by weak intellectual property rights regime and high propensity of imitation.

Abstract:
Researchers strive to optimize data quality in order to ensure that study findings are valid and reliable. In this paper, we describe a data quality control program designed to maximize quality of survey data collected using computer-assisted personal interviews. The quality control program comprised three phases: (1) software development, (2) an interviewer quality control protocol, and (3) a data cleaning and processing protocol. To illustrate the value of the program, we assess its use in the Translating Research in Elder Care Study. We utilize data collected annually for two years from computer-assisted personal interviews with 3004 healthcare aides. Data quality was assessed using both survey and process data. Missing data and data errors were minimal. Mean and median values and standard deviations were within acceptable limits. Process data indicated that in only 3.4% and 4.0% of cases was the interviewer unable to conduct interviews in accordance with the details of the program. Interviewers’ perceptions of interview quality also significantly improved between Years 1 and 2. While this data quality control program was demanding in terms of time and resources, we found that the benefits clearly outweighed the effort required to achieve high-quality data.

Abstract:
"Knowledge discovery in data bases" (KDD) for software engineering is a process for finding useful information in the large volumes of data that are a byproduct of software development, such as data bases for configuration management and for problem reporting. This paper presents guidelines for extracting innovative process metrics from these commonly available data bases. This paper also adapts the Classification And Regression Trees algorithm, CART, to the KDD process for software engineering data. To our knowledge, this algorithm has not been used previously for empirical software quality modeling. In particular, we present an innovative way to control the balance between misclassification rates. A KDD case study of a very large legacy telecommunications software system found that variables derived from source code, configuration management transactions, and problem reporting transactions can be useful predictors of software quality. The KDD process discovered that for this software development environment, out of forty software attributes, only a few of the predictor variables were significant. This resulted in a model that predicts whether modules are likely to have faults discovered by customers. Software developers need such predictions early in development to target software enhancement techniques to the modules that need improvement the most.

Alpha values generated in this fashion we term “local alphas”. An intelligent software program is employed which automatically recognizes the resolution of tiie CRT display and delivers the best possible display for the available equipment. This new design also permits the utilization of dBXL/Quicksitver, dBASE III Plus or compiled BASIC resources for additional on site system customization programming. A dBASE III Plus file format is used for XRF data storage. This permits fast data exchange with a local ASCII database and also with all popular spreadsheet formats. Additionally, there are utility subroutines available which allow direct and rapid manipuiation of dBASE III Plus files in compiled BASIC. This paper is a result generalization of theoretical investigations and a practical realization of the system of computer vision to control ceramic tile technological parameters. A basic problem is a choice of hardware and software for the definition and analysis of moving objects according to a sequence of images obtained during small time intervals. To identify similar objects against a background complex enough, but motionless it is necessary to define areas in which a motion is supposed. As a result of investigations of the areas found they may be changes up to dimensions of objects (that is, find objects themselves) and define parameters of their motion. At the same time, the number and dimensions of objects in the image can change within wide limits. The analysis carried out has shown that the application of OpenCV library allows simplifying the realization of such a system, and a developed programming module may be used in other fields of automated production.

Abstract:
Software Configuration Management and software reuse are now generally considered to be important technologies in software engineering. Both have been proposed for making a significant improvement in productivity and quality. However, these two technologies have been investigated separately. In order to make Software Configuration Management and reuse more effective, both approaches require to be introduced into a development or maintenance environment together. The authors have developed a process model for Maintenance with Reuse (MwR) to support Software Configuration Management for a reuse library within a maintenance environment. As software reuse and Software Configuration Management as well as software reuse and software maintenance have many similarities in their activities, and these areas can therefore be integrated within a software maintenance environment. An integrated approach to the common areas of these different activities will greatly contribute to the productivity and quality of software. This paper will address an integrated approach that can overcome some of the barriers that exist in software maintenance and reuse. A process model of an integrated approach has been created and validated using Process Weaver. In order for the reuse library to allow accesses from many potential reusers, the process model has been implemented on the WWW. The paper describes an integrated process model and its prototype to support change and version control for evolution of software components within both a reuse library and a legacy system.

Abstract:
To improve the seeding qualification rate and stability of the air-suction vibrating disc type seed meter on the rice seedling raising line, in this paper, an improved wireless sensor network node layout optimization algorithm was proposed, and the operation monitoring system of the seed meter was designed using the Internet of Things and configuration software. In the system, the upper computer software adopted the Kingview software, the lower computer took the STM32F429IGT and CC2530 as the core controllers, and ZigBee was selected for data transmission to build the wireless sensor network. The acquisition of field status information and the sending of control instructions were realized through the sensor nodes constructed by the CC2530 core controller. The data was sent to the coordinator node in real-time through the wireless sensor network. The coordinator node realized the bidirectional transmission of data with Kingview and the upper computer control instructions forwarding using the ASCII protocol The host computer monitoring and management software was developed based on configuration software to realize real-time data monitoring, access database storage, fault alarm, control command sending and other functions. The experimental results showed that the detection accuracy of the system for the seeding amount and missed seeding amount was 94.3% and 95.6%, respectively, which could realize the monitoring of the primary working status of the seed meter. The system realized effective data transmission and data remote wireless transmission function, which provided sufficient theoretical and data support for the performance optimization of the seed meter, and laid a good foundation for the visualization and intelligence of information data.

Abstract:
In order to counter cryptoattacks on elements of critical infrastructure, in particular on computer control systems of nuclear power plants, the goal achieved in this work is to analyze the requirements for computer security (cyber security) of the software of this system, which are relevant to the stage of its design, development and operation, as well as proposed criteria and methodology for calculating the quality of compliance with these requirements. To achieve the goal, the first section of the article provides information on standards and identified requirements for software cyber security. In the second section, an analysis of the requirements is carried out and an approach to software development is described, taking into account these requirements and analyzing their consideration. In the third section, an approach to calculating the performance indicator of software cyber security requirements is proposed. The fourth chapter provides an example of the application of this approach to the existing computerized NPP management system to assess compliance with cyber security requirements. The article discusses the requirements of the international standard IEC62645 and the industry standard of Ukraine “NP 306.2.237-2022”, which are related to the development of software for the computer control system of nuclear power plants. Ensuring cyber protection of the software of the NPP computer management system is a complex task that includes administrative, legal, technical, cultural, and organizational components. From the point of view of software development and operation, the main cyber security measures include software code verification, ensuring the absence of hidden functions, implementing physical equipment protection, security of software components, authentication, security during data exchange. To determine the compliance of the software with the requirements of cyber protection, it is necessary to determine the requirements applicable to each component of the software and conduct an analysis of their implementation. This action should occur continuously during the development of new software and software evaluation of existing computer control systems. After the analysis of the applicability and fulfillment of the requirements, the calculation of the coefficient of the fulfillment of the requirements can be carried out. It was noted that cyber protection is only a component of the quality of the software of the NPP computer control system, which is important for the performance of security functions. The analysis of requirements and the calculation of the coefficient of their fulfillment can be an integral part of the complex model of the software development process of the computer system of NPP management.

Abstract:
Interconnected computers and software systems have become an indispensable part of people’s lives in the period of digital transformation. Consequently, software quality research is becoming more and more critical. There have been multiple attempts to synthesise knowledge gained in software quality research; however, they were focused mainly on single aspects of software quality and did not structure the knowledge holistically. To fill this gap, we harvested software quality publications indexed in the Scopus bibliographic database. We analysed them using synthetic content analysis which is a triangulation of bibliometrics and content analysis. The search resulted in 15,468 publications. The performance bibliometric analysis showed that the production of research publications relating to software quality is currently following an exponential growth trend and that the software quality research community is growing. The most productive country was the United States, followed by China. The synthetic content analysis revealed that the published knowledge could be structured into six themes, the most important being the themes regarding software quality improvement by enhancing software engineering, advanced software testing and improved defect and fault prediction with machine learning and data mining.

Abstract:
The reliability of modern computing control systems in a heterogeneous distributed computing environment, along with efficiency, survivability, security, control efficiency, is an important component of their quality. Increasingly, these systems fall into the category of "critical", have an absolute impact on the activities of organizations and enterprises within which they operate. The loss of such systems, even for a short time, leads to serious problems related to loss of income, unforeseen costs, downtime of production and personnel, loss of time, and sometimes man-made disasters. As you know, the greatest impact on the reliability of control systems has the reliability and fault tolerance of a set of software and hardware. Therefore, solving problems related to improving the reliability of the software part of the systems is the most urgent task. Currently, significant results have been obtained in the field of evaluation and forecasting of reliability indicators of elements and typical software packages at the stage of their design; a large number of methods known to algorithms and programs are known; a number of normative documents on project reliability assessment have been developed. However, the task of real-time reliability assessment, when accurate and operational accounting of a number of factors is required, has not been sufficiently solved. To solve the problem of multi-agent approach to computing control in a heterogeneous distributed computing environment used methods of systems analysis, set theory - to develop models of task distribution, models of tasks and computing resources, general systems theory - to study and develop methods of task distribution, logic-theory theory. for modeling computational processes. The article considers a multi-agent approach to computing control in a heterogeneous distributed computing environment. The algorithm is based on the use of economic mechanisms to regulate the supply and demand of resources in the computing environment. The architecture of the multi-agent approach and the functions of the agents are described. Particular attention is paid to calculating the reliability of the task plan based on the logical-probabilistic method.

Abstract:
Basically, the development of a software system contains specification, design, and implementation. Various specification mechanisms and design methods have been proposed to facilitate the implementation of software systems. However, high system quality cannot be easily assured because of some limitations of these current design methods as well as semantic gaps between the specification mechanisms and the design methods. In particular, manual effort is needed to transform the specification of a system into a design framework for the system. Considering these problems, in this paper, we propose a new system design method. This design method is systematic because by using it, the design framework of a system can be automatically created from the specification of the system. Also, the resulting design framework can support high quality assurance for the system. This design framework is a composition of several individual components, each of which can be completely independently developed and hardened. Further, the system properties (reliability, safety, liveness, etc.) can be mathematically inferred from the properties of the individual components. These components are referred to as IDEAL (Independently Developable End-user Assessable Logical) components and the design method is mainly targeted for continuous process-control systems. The paper develops the approach and illustrates it for a vehicle control system.

Software testing is regarded as a key activity in the software development cycle, as it helps information technology professionals to design good quality software. Thus, this is an essential activity for the software industry, although with all its nuances high priority is still not being given to learning about it at an academic level. The purpose of this work is to investigate a teaching strategy for software testing which involves acquiring academic skills within a curriculum based on active teaching methodologies. A teaching model was designed for this to coordinate the different areas of a subject, and then a controlled quasi-experiment was carried out in a post-graduate course to evaluate the application of this model. The results obtained demonstrate that there was a considerable learning gain in the experimental group that adopted the teaching approach when compared with the control group that relied on a traditional approach. The student t-test was employed to determine the learning efficiency.

Abstract:
Today, there is no company that does not attempt to control or assure software quality in a greater or lesser extent. Software quality has been mainly studied from the perspectives of the software product and the software process. However, there is no thorough research about how code quality is affected by the software development projects’ contexts. This study analyses how the evolution of the development effort (i.e., the number of developers and their contributions) influences the code quality (i.e., the number of bugs, code smells, cloning, etc). This paper presents a multiple case study that analyses 13 open-source projects from GitHub and SonarCloud, and retrieves more than 95,000 commits and more than 25,000 quality measures. The insights are that more developers or higher number of commits does not necessary influence worse quality levels. After applying a clustering algorithm, it is detected an inverse correlation in some cases where specific efforts were made to improve code quality. The size of commits and the relative weight of developers in their teams might also affect measures like complexity or cloning. Project managers can therefore understand the mentioned relationships and consequently make better decisions based on the information retrieved from code repositories.

Abstract:
Improvements and acceleration in software development have contributed towards high-quality services in all domains and all fields of industry, causing increasing demands for high-quality software developments. The industry is adopting human resources with high skills, advanced methodologies, and technologies to match the high-quality software development demands to accelerate the development life cycle. In the software development life cycle, one of the biggest challenges is the change management between the version of the source codes. Various reasons, such as changing the requirements or adapting available updates or technological upgrades, can cause the source code's version. The change management affects the correctness of the software service's release and the number of test cases. It is often observed that the development life cycle is delayed due to a lack of proper version control and due to repetitive testing iterations. Hence the demand for better version control-driven test case reduction methods cannot be ignored. The parallel research attempts propose several version control mechanisms. Nevertheless, most version controls are criticized for not contributing toward the test case generation of reduction. Henceforth, this work proposes a novel probabilistic rule-based test case reduction method to simplify the software development's testing and version control mechanism. Software developers highly adopt the refactoring process for making efficient changes such as code structure and functionality or applying changes in the requirements. This work demonstrates very high accuracy for change detection and management. This results in higher accuracy for test case reductions. The outcome of this work is to reduce the development time for the software to make the software development industry a better and more efficient world.
