Abstract:

Contexte : La réflexivité est considérée par de nombreux auteurs comme une composante essentielle du professionnalisme, tout en étant au cœur du développement de ce dernier et de l’identité professionnelle. Le portfolio, outil de soutien de l’apprentissage et d’évaluation en médecine générale, comporte des traces écrites d’apprentissage à visée réflexive. Il n’existe pas d’outil validé en langue française permettant d’évaluer la réflexivité au travers des traces écrites d’apprentissage. But : L’objectif de cette étude est donc d’adapter la grille REFLECT, validée en anglais, pour un usage en langue française. Méthode : Un processus de double traduction puis double rétro-traduction a été mené afin de garantir une adaptation interculturelle respectant le sens de la version originale. Des tests pilotes ont été menés sur la version française préliminaire avec évaluation de la validité de contenu. Résultats : L’évaluation de la clarté de la version française a conduit à une version finale comportant 5 critères ayant chacun 4 niveaux d’évaluation possibles. La version française de la grille REFLECT présente une validité de contenu élevée. Conclusion : L’utilisation de la grille REFLECT en français permettra vraisemblablement d’optimiser le développement de la réflexivité chez les internes en médecine générale et de faciliter la rétroaction par les superviseurs.

Varias veces nombrada por la crítica literaria como descendiente de Marguerite Duras, la concepción de su obra busca sobre todo representar la ambivalencia de un yo íntimo fragmentado, así como el punto intermedio sexual y amoroso. En relación a su escritura, en Mes mauvaises pensées, Nina Bouraoui revela a través de un proceso de deconstrucción/construcción, una escritura del yo que condensa procesos que recuerdan en ciertas ocasiones la naturaleza de los textos con componentes Minimalista. Si la presencia del doble es permanente en la narrativa, el uso de la escritura minimalista permitirá formular la presencia del yo autobiográfico, así como su relación con el mundo. Sometimes named by literary critic as a descendant of Marguerite Duras, the conception of her work seeks above all to represent the ambivalence of a fragmented intimate self, as well as the sexual and amorous between-two. In relation to his writing, in Mes mauvaises pensées Nina Bouraoui reveals through a process of deconstruction/construction, a writing of the self that condenses processes that recall on certain occasions the nature of texts with component Minimalist. If the presence of the double is permanent in the narrative, the use of the minimalist writing will allow to formulate the presence of the autobiographical self, as well as its relationship to the world. À partir d’un corpus d’articles scientifiques de trois disciplines de sciences humaines (archéologie, linguistique et psychologie), l’étude que nous présentons a pour objectif d’examiner la composition des candidats termes polylexicaux de formeN_Adj(langage humain, niveau individuel, origine sociale, structure syllabique). Nous nous concentrons sur les occurrences de candidats termes considérées comme relevant d’un usage disciplinaire par les annotateurs experts de chaque discipline. Nous nous intéressons, en particulier, aux classements possibles des noms et des adjectifs dans trois lexiques en interaction dans l’écrit scientifique : le lexique scientifique transdisciplinaire, les ressources terminologiques et le lexique de la langue générale. Les candidats termes analysés ont au moins un composant, le nom ou l’adjectif, qui appartient à au moins deux des trois disciplines du corpus. À l’issue de cette étude, nous constatons le rôle primordial du lexique disciplinaire et ses interactions fréquentes avec le lexique scientifique transdisciplinaire dans la formation des termes polylexicaux de formeN_Adj.

Abstract:

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to improve the efficiency of particle optimization method by using direct and indirect surrogate modeling in inverse design problems. Design/methodology/approach The new algorithm emphasizes the use of a direct and an indirect design prediction based on local surrogate models in particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Local response surface approximations are constructed by using radial basis neural networks. The principal role of surrogate models is to answer the question of which individuals should be placed into the next swarm. Therefore, the main purpose of surrogate models is to predict new design points instead of estimating the objective function values. To demonstrate its merits, the new approach and six comparative algorithms were applied to two different test cases including surface fitting of a geographical terrain and an inverse design of a wing, the averaged best-individual fitness values of the algorithms were recorded for a fair comparison. Findings The new algorithm provides more than 60 per cent reduction in the required generations as compared with comparative algorithms. Research limitations/implications The comparative study was carried out only for two different test cases. It is possible to extend test cases for different problems. Practical implications The proposed algorithm can be applied to different inverse design problems. Originality/value The study presents extra ordinary application of double surrogate modeling usage in PSO for inverse design problems.

Abstract:

L’article proposé ici explore la réforme du système de santé bulgare de la fin des années 1990 sous l’angle de ses temporalités. L’auteure situe son analyse par rapport aux travaux néo-institutionnalistes récents sur la structuration progressive du changement et aux écrits de la sociologie historique. Elle montre ainsi le temps double de cette réforme qui, bien que suggérant l’immédiateté du fait de son caractère radical, s’inscrit avant tout dans une perspective temporelle longue. Outre son caractère double, le changement ainsi introduit se voit accéléré comme conséquence des relations complexes entre le temps et l’espace et de l’importation d’idées néo-managériales lors de la mise en oeuvre de la réforme.L’analyse des effets de ces phénomènes temporels sur la perception du changement des principaux acteurs composant l’espace politique de la santé révèle, quant à elle, l’omniprésence de la référence au passé communiste qui reste un temps dominant fort de l’histoire bulgare, alimentant les dynamiques conflictuelles inhérentes au système.

RÉSUMÉCette étude examina comment les réseaux de soutien socials, la santé, et les caractéristiques économiques ont façonné les choix résidentiels des Canadiens âgés et prédit comment ils sont susceptibles de le faire à l’avenir, en faisant usage de L’Enquête sociale generale: Le soutien social et le vieillissement (ESG), la logique de régression multinomiale et les techniques de projection de la cohorte-composant. Il est axé sur la distribution des personnes âgées de 55-à-75-ans habitant trois types de logement privé: communauté vivant, le logement limité à l’âge et logement limité à l’âge avec soins infirmiers. L’analyse montre que les caractéristiques de soutien social sont les plus forts indicateurs du type de logement, ce qui signifie que les individus apparaissent choisir leurs logements en grande partie sur la base de leurs besoins et désirs sociaux, plutôt que selon leurs caractéristiques économiques ou de santé. L’analyse indique également une demande accrue spécifique à l’âge pour tous les types de logement à l’avenir, mais avec une réduction de plus de 2 millions de Canadiens plus âgés qui vivent dans des logements dans la communauté en générale entre 2002 et 2022.

Abstract:

In the paper, I deal with the comparison of the use of negative indefinite pronouns in languages with double negation with their usage in languages without double negation. In languages with double negation referential usage prevails, while in languages without double negation quantificational usage is prevalent. Double negation is often considered to be inconsistent with the understanding of quantification in standard logic. I show that languages in which negative indefinite pronouns are used are not logically weaker than languages in which this is not the case. Moreover, I show that the languages with double negation clearly distinguish between the referential and quantificational usage of negative indefinite pronouns, so that the grammar of these languages prevents referring to nonentities.

Abstract:

Double lumen tubes (DLT) are commonly used to achieve lung isolation (LI). Not all anesthesiologists are frequent DLT users. Our thoracic surgical service is covered by sub-specialty anesthesiologists who are frequent DLT users. Thus, we are in a position to evaluate the performance of infrequent DLT users relative to frequent DLT users. Using statistical methods, we examined the incidence, duration and severity of hypoxia, hypercapnea and high airway pressures for patients receiving LI via DLTs placed by infrequent versus frequent users. The incidence of low SpO2, high EtCO2, or high PIP was not different between frequent and infrequent DLT users. However, when these events do occur, they are more severe (elevated EtCO2 duration, lower SpO2, higher EtCO2, higher airway pressure) among infrequent than frequent DLT users. The practical significance of these differences, which are small, is unproven. However, when episodes of hypercapnea do occur, they last much longer among infrequent than frequent DLT users.

The main task for future development is sustainable food production for growing population. At the same time fossil fuel resources will decrease and we shall turn to renewable energy resources. The goal to double amount of renewable energy consumption have been advanced in White Paper of European Union - " Energy for the future: Renewable sources of energy" (1997). The more significant part (74%) of renewable energy sources has been planned for Biomass energy. Latvia on its way to European Union have the same tasks of Bioenergy development as in White Paper of European Commission:" Biomass energy technologies have preference in rural areas for different reasons:Biomass is the main product in everyday agricultural production.Increasing productivity of food production create the land reserves for biomass, as energy source, production.Rural community has better understanding of environment protection problems and necessity to prevent Global Climate Change.Biomass technologies can create alternative jobs within and outside agriculture that is crucial to the health and sustainability of rural economy development.In the rural area open water systems (rivers and lakes) and wetlands also play an important role in the functioning of the agricultural ecosystem. For ages lake ecosystems have been acting as sinks for collecting organic and minerogenic matter (Bjork, 1988). At the same time soil cultivation in the catchment area of natural open water systems interacts with water flows. It has been stated that the intense land cultivation over the last 100 years has led to irreversible charge flows (matter loss, mainly alkaline metal cations) from agricultural soils by surface water flows. Matter losses from agricultural areas may amount to more than one ton per hectare a year (Ripl et al., 1994). Soil restitution by transport of matter opposite to water flow (sludge, sediments, and compost) is recommended.Leading to soil impoverishment and erosion, the organic residue removal from the fields must be limited. The biomass quantity whose removal has no significant impact on the carbon cycle varies from 20 to 50 %. Yearly production amount of cereal straw in Latvia in 1997 was 850907 tons If 20% from total amount could be used for energy production -171 0001 straw it is equal to heat capacity o f57 000 t of oil. More preferable are biomass usage technologies with minimal transport expenses:Development of mechanisation for technologies of straw and another plant material briquetting and pelleting..Constructed Reedbeds for Effluent Treatment is simplest and cheapest system for disposing of domestic sewage for rural situations. At the same time Reedbeds are the source of Biomass 20 -251per ha of dry matter annually.Composting heat plants' technologies. The heating energy, obtained in the biomass aerated composting process with temperature up to 50 X! can be used for different purposes where the low temperature heat is accepted.

Abstract:

We present a hybridization of the accelerated gradient method with two vector directions. This hybridization is based on the usage of a chosen three-term hybrid model. Derived hybrid accelerated double direction model keeps preferable properties of both included methods. Convergence analysis demonstrates at least linear convergence of the proposed iterative scheme on the set of uniformly convex and strictly convex quadratic functions. The results of numerical experiments confirm better performance profile in favor of derived hybrid accelerated double direction model when compared to its forerunners.

Abstract:

A double-pass erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) based on a depressed cladding erbium-doped fiber, which operates in the short wavelength (S-band) region is proposed and demonstrated. This amplifier provides a small signal gain as high as 30 dB at 1500 nm, using only 15 m depressed cladding erbium-doped fiber (EDF) and 130 mW of 980 nm pump power. Compared to the single-pass configuration, this amplifier shows a gain enhancement of about 14 dB for pump powers above 120 mW. However, noise figures penalties of less than 0.9 dB are obtained for these pump powers. The proposed double-pass amplifier will play an important role in the development of a practical S-band EDFA from the perspective of economical usage of EDF and pump power.

This paper presents a possible way for improving the techniques of compressed sensing and parallel imaging techniques for brain MRI. Experimental tests have been performed over a phantom test image. An exclusive elliptical sampling mask has been generated, which in combination with double-density wavelet transforms offers improvement over the standard approach. Additional tests undertaken as part of this research propose the usage of nonlinear reconstruction method, generated elliptical sampling mask and double-density wavelet transform for application of compressed sensing to brain MRI. An assessment of the results for diagnostic usage has been done by a specialist of radiology.

This paper first describes the composition and the usage of the shadowless retractor of the single-port gasless laparoscopy minimally invasive surgical instrument. Aim to meet the specific requirement arise in the minimally invasive surgery for the animal abdominal cavity, we first improve the existing shadowless lifting retractor. Then, this paper proposes and designs the double-light shadowless lifting retractor. The test has shown the designed double-light shadowless lifting retractor has satisfied the design requirement. The practical tests have been done and shown the viability and effectiveness of the proposed design approach.

Abstract:

Long-term shift work is widely believed to increase the risk of certain cancers, but conflicting findings between studies render this association unclear. Evidence of interplay between the circadian clock, cell cycle regulation, and DNA damage detection machinery suggests the possibility that circadian rhythm disruption consequent to shift work could alter the DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair pathway usage to favor mutagenic non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ) repair. To test this hypothesis, we compared relative usage of NHEJ and single-strand annealing (SSA) repair of a complementary ended chromosomal double-stranded break using the Repair Reporter 3 (Rr3) system in Drosophila between flies reared on 12:12 and 8:8 (simulated shift work) light:dark schedules. Actimetric analysis showed that the 8:8 light:dark schedule effectively disrupted the rhythms in locomotor output. Inaccurate NHEJ repair was not a frequent outcome in this system overall, and no significant difference was seen in the usage of NHEJ or SSA repair between the control and simulated shift work schedules. We conclude that this circadian disruption regimen does not alter the usage of mutagenic NHEJ DSB repair in the Drosophila male pre-meiotic germline, in the context of the Rr3 system.

Abstract:

The phenomenon of pronominal reprise has been extensively studied in French and Spanish, languages of the Balkan Sprachbund and in Modern Welsh. In some of those languages this feature has been claimed to be specific for oral speech (for French see [Lambrecht 1981], Bulgarian [Lopashov 1978: 28], Welsh [Rowlands 1981: 424ff.]). In our paper we shall analyze how the South Slavic languages (Bulgarian and Macedonian) and the Celtic languages (Middle and Modern Welsh, and Middle Irish) vary as regards constructions they allow, the frequency of these constructions and their semantics. In this abstract we concentrate on Middle Welsh comparing it to Bulgarian. The pronominal reprise (i.e. the co-occurence within the same clause boundary of both a full NP/pronominal and a clitic replica [Dimitrova-Vulchanova 83]) in Bulgarian is obligatory only in a small numbers of contexts, and has often a semantics of contrast or emphasis: Мене ме мама не дава ‘Mother does not give me’ [de Bray 1951: 206]. This situation reminds us about the use of affixed pronouns in Welsh: Pwy bynnac a ’m metrei i yuelly… (PKM 87.2-3) ‘Whoever should smite me when so…’ T. Arwyn Watkins wrote that the difference in the usage of affixed pronouns strikingly reflects the gap between spoken and literary Welsh [Watkins 1977-8: 349]. Prof. Pr. MacCana noticed that this discrepancy might go back to Middle Welsh and noted a tendency for a more frequent usage of affixed pronouns in PKM dialogs in [MacCana 1975-6: 323]. Having analysed all the examples of affixed pronoun usage in PKM we could now refine this statement. Affixed pronouns are more frequently used in 1-2 persons also with possessive pronouns and personal endings of the inflected prepositions. It should be noted that this tendency is true also for MIr. notae augentes, but not for the Modern Welsh affixed pronouns.

Cultural diversity is assumed to be a central component of Western education and even though it has been extensively investigated in international research on teacher education, little knowledge exists about its usage and meaning making in teacher educator discourses. This article provides insights into the usage and meaning making of the term cultural diversity based on semi-structured individual interviews with a total of twelve teacher educators from two Norwegian teacher education institutions. Drawing on the theoretical perspectives of discourse theory and critical Whiteness studies, we find that the term cultural diversity is used in a double meaning making pattern: Cultural diversity is presented as desirable and positive by teacher educators, yet it is also aligned with the notion of otherness. We discuss some possible methodological tools with which teacher educators can detect meaning making patterns and thus counter the production and reproduction of socially unjust discursive patterns.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore how social media usage affects people’s life satisfaction through two competing explanatory mechanisms. Design/methodology/approach – An online survey was conducted to collect data. And the partial least squares method was used to examine the relationships among the usage of social media, social benefit, social overload and life satisfaction. Findings – The results indicate that usage of social media can make people achieve social benefit, thus leading to enhanced life satisfaction. Unexpectedly, though usage of social media can bring the negative consequences (e.g. social overload), social overload cannot predict a decreased life satisfaction. Originality/value – Concentrating on the outcomes of social aspects by using social media, this study proposes the double-sided role of social media instead of single effect.

Abstract Codon usage bias, the preferential use of particular codons within each codon family, is characteristic of synonymous base composition in many species, including Drosophila, yeast, and many bacteria. Preferential usage of particular codons in these species is maintained by natural selection acting largely at the level of translation. In Drosophila, as in bacteria, the rate of synonymous substitution per site is negatively correlated with the degree of codon usage bias, indicating stronger selection on codon usage in genes with high codon bias than in genes with low codon bias. Surprisingly, in these organisms, as well as in mammals, the rate of synonymous substitution is also positively correlated with the rate of nonsynonymous substitution. To investigate this correlation, we carried out a phylogenetic analysis of substitutions in 22 genes between two species of Drosophila, Drosophila pseudoobscura and D. subobscura, in codons that differ by one replacement and one synonymous change. We provide evidence for a relative excess of double substitutions in the same species lineage that cannot be explained by the simultaneous mutation of two adjacent bases. The synonymous changes in these codons also cannot be explained by a shift to a more preferred codon following a replacement substitution. We, therefore, interpret the excess of double codon substitutions within a lineage as being the result of relaxed constraints on both kinds of substitutions in particular codons.

The verbal negation system of Brazilian Portuguese (BP) presents three forms: preverbal, double and postverbal negation, as can be seen in following examples: *MIC: [91] mas / Michael / eu não falo nesse sentido // (ii) *DOM: [101] cês nũ lêem isso mais não // (iii) *RUT: [220] participa não / minha filha //. The goal of this paper is to investigate whether there is any kind of prosodic-informational restriction to the distribution and use of the above mentioned negation forms in BP through the spontaneous speech corpus C-ORAL-BRASIL BRASIL (Raso & Mello, 2012). Through the analysis of data from C-ORAL-BRASIL, we propose that double and postverbal negation can only occur in illocutionary information units (COM, CMM, COB); whereas preverbal negation has free distribution, occurring in both illocutionary and non-illocutionary textual units. This indicates that non-canonical negation forms depend on illocutionary force in order to be fully realized.

The usage of this system is to capture an image of a fingernail and to generate the 3D shape of the nail. The nail’s depth map will be estimated from this rendered 3D nail shape. Objective This article aims to evaluate whether the use of a double-balloon catheter with oral misoprostol results in a lower rate of cesarean and shorter times to delivery than the use of the double-balloon catheter with oral placebo. Study Design In a double-blind randomized controlled trial, a double-balloon catheter was used for induction of labor with two doses of either 50 µg of misoprostol or placebo. Outcomes included cesarean rate, time to vaginal delivery, change in Bishop's score, and oxytocin usage. Results A total of 343 women were screened and 199 randomized: 99 to the misoprostol arm and 100 to the placebo arm. Cesarean delivery rate was not different between the groups (misoprostol: 13.1% vs. placebo: 17.0%, p = 0.45). Time to vaginal delivery was significantly shorter (mean: 14.6 ± 6.9 vs. 20.8 ± 13.8 hours, p < 0.0001), change in Bishop's score was significantly greater (median: 5 vs. 4 points, p = 0.005), and use of oxytocin was significantly less frequent (86.9 vs. 98.0% patients, p = 0.01) in the misoprostol group. Conclusion The use of a double-balloon catheter with oral misoprostol for induction did not reduce the cesarean delivery rate, but did result in shorter labors, a greater increase in Bishop's score, and a lower need for oxytocin use.

The article aims to realize the critical potential of the practice lens by contributing to the development of a coherent set of methodologies for investigating work and organizational activity. It does so by introducing and critically assessing the `interview to the double' as a method to articulate and represent practice. After briefly illustrating its history and usage, the article analyses in depth the setting generated by this unusual interview method. It argues that the nature of the encounter produces narratives that are often morally connoted and idealized in character. As a consequence the method is especially useful to capture the going concerns which orient the conduct of the members and the normative and moral dimension of practice. The article also shows that because it mimics familiar instruction-giving discursive practices, the method constitutes an effective textual device to convey this moral and normative dimension in a way that remains faithful to its situated and contingent nature of practice.

Two major mechanisms for the regulation of autoreactive B cells that arise in the bone marrow are functional silencing (anergy) and deletion. Studies to date suggest that low avidity interactions between B cells and autoantigen lead to B cell silencing, whereas high avidity interactions lead to deletion. Anti–double stranded (ds) DNA antibodies represent a pathogenic autospecificity in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). An understanding of their regulation is critical to an understanding of SLE. We now demonstrate in a transgenic model in which mice express the heavy chain of a potentially pathogenic anti-DNA antibody that antibody affinity for dsDNA does not alone determine the fate of anti-dsDNA B cells. B cells making antibodies with similar affinities for dsDNA are regulated differently, depending on light chain usage. A major implication of this observation is that dsDNA may not be the self antigen responsible for cell fate determinations of anti-dsDNA B cells. Light chain usage may determine antigenic crossreactivity, and cross-reactive antigens may regulate B cells that also bind dsDNA.
