Full textIn this work a novel scheme of predistortion of power amplifier nonlinearities is developed and demonstrated. The originality of the proposed system architecture is that the estimation of nonlinearities is carried out at the receiver thanks to a training sequence, and sent back to the transmitter for predistortion. The proposed architecture achieves efficient compensation of power amplifier nonlinearities on WiMAX and LTE standards without extra hardware. An evaluation of consumption savings is carried out, considering digital consumption of the estimation algorithm at the receiver and predistortion Look Up Table refreshment at the transmitter. The results show that the suggested architecture can be applied for high data rate systems at base stations, relay stations and mobile stations as well

Full textThe Earth's climate is fueled by solar radiation. The uneven distribution of radiation across latitudes drives poleward heat (energy) transport needed to restore equilibrium. The role of heat transport in the climate system has been an active area of research, but many issues still need to be addressed. Previous climate modeling studies indicate that meridional heat transport constrains climate variability and change. Accordingly, this thesis focuses on a key aspect of this relationship known as the Bjerknes compensation (BJC). The BJC implies that changes in heat transport by the ocean and those carried by the atmosphere can compensate each other (fully or partially). Using the IPSL-CM6A-LR model, we explore the BJC's dependence on timescales and relevant physical mechanisms, contrasting decadal and centennial climate variabilities. Our study reveals that the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) plays a dominant role in setting up the BJC at both timescales. Additionally, we identify an Atlantic/Indo-Pacific interbasin heat transport compensation, similarly driven by AMOC variations and prominent on centennial timescales. Finally, we investigate the role of meridional heat transport in the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon, attempting to identify a potential link between ENSO amplitude and meridional heat transport using data from CMIP5 and CMIP6 models. Overall, this study confirms the crucial role of poleward heat transport in the climate system
