The article explores the difference between the category of tertium comparationis and a C-fi eld. The C-fi eld can be involved in different aspects of the analysis, for example the fi eld of one discipline (e.g. models of literary genres). The letter as genre exemplifi es the presence of hidden connections between its literary, administrative and pastoral forms. The method appears to be especially useful in the reconstructions of past phenomena (works, movements, periods etc.).

Abstract: The millions of words or sentences on the Internet and in literally hundreds of archives—literary works, published research, legal documentation, as well as other data—have enabled Automatic Text Summarization (ATS), which has become exceedingly well known over the past 10 years. Word-based summarizing is time-consuming, affordable, and unsustainable when interacting with vast volumes of literary texts. It's why we prefer utilizing textual data snippets: it saves time, we acquire accurate data rapidly, and computer scientists have been attempting to create ATS replacements since the 1950s. In this research, we will compare alternative rating systems and offer the best summary based on the scoring methodology implemented. We will also clearly define a wide range of methods, techniques, and scoring algorithms.

Abstract:
This article discusses the comparative-typological analysis of Uzbek and Kyrgyz literary terms and the comparison of terms in Uzbek and Kyrgyz school textbooks. The article pays special attention to the formation of a number of literary terms and the content-based analysis of textbooks as a result of the development of the literary language and literary criticism of the two fraternal peoples. In the process of analysis, it is observed that in textbooks, many common terms, such as proverbs, riddles, parables, fairy tales, proverbs, nicknames, riddles, jokes, jokes, belong to the folklore. In general, our work examines from a comparative-typological point of view that most of the literary terms that appeared in the history of the two fraternal peoples in ancient times are still used today.

It is noted that one of the main features is the feature that distinguishes a comparative stable phrase as a special group of phraseological units. In the Darginian literary language, the most active way of forming comparative relations between the elements of stable word combinations is the comparative particles-wang, - tsad, - guna. The same meanings are expressed by the English comparative elements of the adjective as, the verb like.

Abstract:
This article aims to analyze the research trend and hotspots in the field of comparative literature by using the method of bibliometrics. The data is derived from the Web of Science Core Collection Database. The visualization software VOSViewer is utilized to draw keyword co-occurrence knowledge graph. R programming language is employed to analyze the quantity of publications, core journals, highly cited papers, the most contributing authors, and keyword word cloud. The results indicate that ever since 1975, this study field has entered a period of rapid development; top journals with most publications are mainly from France, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. Most of the highly cited articles have emerged in the recent two decades, and quite a few of them inherit the academic tradition of adopting a geographic perspective. The keyword word cloud and the keyword co-ocurrence knowledge mapping reveal that comparative literature study is shifting its focus from literary history and intertextuality to identity, culture, literary theory and world literature. The recent reserch hotspots in this field are mainly identity, culture, world literature, literary theory, Latin American literature, appropriation, genre, theatre, ethics and digital humanities, etc.

Abstract:
This is a comparative analysis of two novels entitled “The Son of Mad Mat Lela,” which is written by Ishak Hadji Muhammad, a famous Malaysian writer and the other one is “Teach us to Outgrow our Madness,” by a Japanese novelist Kenzaburo Oe. This study compared the literary styles of Muhammad and Oe through the lens of their vocabulary and language use. Muhammad’s literary styles is simple, clear and vivid. One reads the story with delight because the words that strung together sound on the air like music. He does not use metaphor; his style is still striking in his own way. Many readers still notice his style no matter how plain it is. This is to say that Muhammad could write lucidly, simply and lively by observing grammar rules in writing. He uses common phrases of the day not with artificially but with naturalness. While, Oe’s literary style is more of long and complex sentences or two that occupy a paragraph. Most of his passages convey strong emotion describing an intimate knowledge of the lives of the characters.

How long and how strong is Diasporic memory? How many generations can it encompass? How deeply can generations that never lived in the old country relate to its landscape, language, colors and tastes? In the case of Israelis of Hungarian origin, these questions inevitably have to do with the history of Hungarian Jews in the late nineteenth- and early-to-mid twentieth-century, with a focus placed more acutely upon World War II and the Holocaust. Written by a female Israeli researcher of folk and documentary culture who belongs to the second-generation of Hungarian-Jewish Holocaust survivors, the present article strives to deal with the foregoing and other relevant questions through a comparative literary-cultural analysis of the only two presently existing Hebrew-language Hungarian cookbooks. These two cookbooks were published in Israel in 1987 and 2009, respectively, by two male cultural celebrities, the first by a Hungarian-born journalist, author and politician and the second by an Israeli-born gastronomer and grandson of Hungarian-Israelis.

There is confusion regarding the differences between linguistics, stylistics, literary criticism, and discourse analysis (DA) among teachers and learners of the English Major due to their overlapping natures, blurred boundaries, and analysis approaches. Therefore, the present study examines the similarities and differences of these four fields to make a clear demarcation between them. A descriptive and comparative approach using exemplary text was used in the study and the stylistics were thoroughly investigated, analyzed and exemplified in small-scale (one phrase, clause or sentence) or wider-scale (a paragraph). Finally, value judgments on the importance and value of the stylistics were furnished. This research enhances the prospects of pedagogical studies of different language learning and teaching of these four fields. This has opened the window for teacher-oriented studies and presented valid and genuine analytical and diagnostic studies of the related issues to enhance the accessibility of a clear distinction of the above stated fields.

Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar (1901-1962) is one of the most controversial authors in the 20th century Turkish literature. Literature critics find it difficult to place him in a school of literature and thought. There are many reasons that they have caused Tanpinar to give the impression of ambiguity in his thoughts through his literary works. One of them is that he is always open to (even admires) the "other" thought to a certain age, and he considers synthesis thinking at later ages. Tanpinar states in the letter that he wrote to a young lady from Antalya that he composed the foundations of his first period aesthetics due to the contributions from western (French) writers. The influence of the western writers on him has also inspired his interest in the materialist culture of the West. In 1953 and 1959 he organized two tours to Europe in order to see places where Western thought and culture were produced. He shared his impressions that he gained in European countries in his literary works. In the literary works of Tanpinar, Europe comes out as an aesthetic object. The most dominant facts of this aesthetic are music, painting, etc. In this work, in the writings of Tanpinar about the countries that he travelled in Europe, some factors were detected like European culture, lifestyle, socio-cultural relations, art and architecture, political and social history and so on. Some of the best literary works around the world are very good to learn, such as a poem “Ode on a Grecian Urn” by John Keats which is phenomenal by the quote “Beauty is truth, truth beauty”, and in prose, the work from Kate Chopin entitled The Awakening which is also phenomenal by the way the story ends. By using the theory of comparative literature, this study aims to describe the intense feeling of two different kinds of literary work by depicting their similarities and differences. The analysis shows that those works provide the description of different feeling delivered by each author. Keats presents the poetry in romantic mood, full of cheers and energy, although it serves momento mori. While Chopin presents the prose in elegiac or tragic mood. Those feeling are depicted throughout the way both authors represent the values of their works. Three values which are depicted in its similarities and differences are; 1) the meaning of death, 2) nature attribute, and 3) revealing truth. The feelings shown in the both literary works are basically about the reality of life. The beauty, the truth, the life, and the death are enclosed into the social life experienced by the people in the world. Keywords: comparative literature, feeling, , values of literary works

The article has two main research aims: the first one focuses on theoretical aspects of discourse and the Critical Discourse Analysis, which is at the same time a tool to carry out the second aim, i.e. performing discursive activities concerned with the competences of a researcher using the comparative method while interpreting Old Polish literature. The paper consists of two planes. The first one is the completion of theoretical assumption, covering historical overview of the major moments in comparative literature and literary theory. Abstract:
The article provides a critical comparison of two independent interpretations of F. M. Dostoevsky: from the side of M. Bakhtin and from the side of Rene Girard. Both authors have created coherent ways of understanding and reading the literary heritage of the writer in the perspective of their own understanding of the history of literature and the intellectual history of mankind as such. Dostoevsky is significant for Bakhtin not simply as an illustration of the applicability of some of his own ideas within the framework of literary criticism. Bakhtin sees Dostoevsky as an innovator in the development of the menippea genre and an unprecedented dialogization of literature. At the same time, without Dostoevsky, the movement of literature postulated by Girard towards the embodiment of the Gospel revelation would be incomplete. The incompleteness of Girard or Bakhtin without Dostoevsky (with all the reservations) is not fundamental. Without Dostoevsky, history as such fundamentally changes for Girard and for Bakhtin. The apparent incomparability of the authors makes it possible to read Dostoevsky differently. From the context of Girard, the meaning of Bakhtin's works and, inevitably, the meaning of laughter and dialogue (polyphony) in history are significantly transformed. On the other hand, the ways of including Dostoevsky in the image of history created by Girard, independently of Bakhtin, also run into difficulties.

Modern comparative literature with globalization phenomenon extends linguistic and political boundaries, even for conserving and revitalizing languages particularly minor languages with cultural and ethnic exchanges. Such this emergence of comparative literature might return from contemporary translational and cultural studies as crucial and effective factors in the study of comparative literature. The role, relationship, and impact of translation and cultural studies on modern comparative literature are explored via a descriptive analysis. Translational and cultural studies in current comparative literature studies facilitate the relevant studies and they play a supplementary role for literary study. This study confirms a significant relationship exists among contemporary translational, cultural, and literary works intangibly and inevitably that helps to study comparative literary works. The findings report cultural and translational studies can be fruity informing literary studies, new writing styles besides intercultural conversation; nevertheless, scholars of comparative literature have argued that their discipline has been significantly subsumed and substituted by translation studies. The results indicate contemporary translation and cultural studies have paved the way for comparative literature researchers to achieve cultural knowledge and to strengthen the culture with developing national literature.

Abstract:
A brief comparative review of English-language literatures of Australia and New Zealand is given in the article. The aim of the article is to highlight the similarities and differences at the stages of the literary process development from the point of view of postcolonial studies. The historical genesis specificity of the region and the uniqueness of national identity formation at the juncture of colonial and colonized cultures stipulate the definition of Australia and New Zealand as settler societies. Tasks needed to be resolved are to disclose the notion “settler societies”, to determine common characteristics of the studied national literatures as postcolonial ones, to give their comparative outline, to make a textual analysis of a number of literary works which are indicative for each stage of the literary process development. In the course of the study, the authors refer to a comparative historical method of scientific enquiry to highlight similarities in the literary process development and the degree of influence of metropolitan literature on it. They also use a sociological method to estimate the impact of the settler societies development on the literary process and a hermeneutic interpretative method in textual analysis to interpret the transformation of a typical hero at various stages of the literary process in Australia and New Zealand. The article is divided into theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part, the authors define “settler societies”, overview the place of “settler” countries in the postcolonial space, and note factors allowing to review the national literatures comparatively as postcolonial ones. In the practical part, the authors characterize three stages of the literary process development observed in the national literatures of Australia and New Zealand, conduct an interpretative analysis of the works in which the prolific features of a typical hero are shown. On conducting the research the authors come to the following conclusions. The national literatures of Australia and New Zealand are under the influence of the metropolitan culture and literaturel, but the relation started to loosen at a contemporary stage of the literary process development due to the formation of the national identities of Australians and New Zealanders. The impact of colonized indigenous peoples’ cultures on the literary process defines the difference between the national literatures. For the countries, the national identity formation is characteristic in the cultural sphere, which makes the further study of identification processes presentation in literary text promising.

The research subscribes to the field of Literary Animal Studies based on the theory of Children’s Literature (Lukens, 1999) and through the intercultural perspective of Comparative Children’s Literature (O’Sullivan, 2005). Published children’s books from Greece, Spain and Spanish-speaking America were compared using textual analysis methods of Imagology (Beller & Leersen, 2007). Stereotyped variants were identified and organized in categories related to name, physical appearance, gender, behavior, and function of literary cat characters. Results. After examining a corpus of 37 books, 23 in Greek and 17 in Spanish (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Spain), textual analysis findings were compared, organized, and classified by language, country and readers’ age groups to locate that literary cat characters are usually pets or feral, and they remain consistently stereotyped as anthropomorphic and subversive. Cats with seven lives and magical powers are common perceptions, dominating in both cultural contexts, stereotypes extended to strong superstitions about black cats. Conclusions. In Children's Literature texts, cats are linguistically, literally, and socially defined literary constructs, can have usually human-like features, intercultural influences, and are potentially shaped by intertextual relations. They serve also as a narrative motif for the transmission of social values about non-human animals and the textual familiarization of nonadult readers with society’s cultural stereotypes.

The article examines specific characteristics of literary nonce words on the example of English literary tales. It attempts to classify them on the basis of the word-building patterns used (highlighting the so-called nursery words and nonce words proper). It also describes their main functions in a literary text. The research objectives also included a comparative analysis of the translations of famous English literary tales. The analysis proved that the main translation strategies while dealing with literary nonce words are the creation of nonce words in the target language, descriptive translation and compensation. The most successful translation decisions take into account the target audience of readers and include the use of wordplay, as well as phonetic expressive means such as rhyme, alliteration and onomatopoeia. In general, the translation of nonce words directly depends on the specifics of word-building patterns that exist in the source and target languages.

This research aims at finding out how we can benefit from comparing Chinese and Western poetics when translating texts of traditional Chinese literary theories into English. We will try to find out, from the perspectives of comparative poetics, the difficulties and solutions in translating traditional Chinese literary theories into English. We will also see how comparative poetics would affect the translating strategies and the readers’ understanding of the translated texts. The paper starts with a comparison and analysis of the four English translations of the “Shen Si” (《神思》) chapter in WXDL. The comparisons and analyses expose problems in translating traditional Chinese literary theories into English, but it also gives us some insights. We find that some characteristics of the text, such as the critical terms, the figurative use of language, and the numerous quotes and illusions, impose lots of challenges to the translating. We also find that a comparative study of Chinese and Western poetics in many ways is helpful to the translation of the texts of traditional Chinese literary theories.

This paper compares and contrasts two short stories, Guy De Maupassant’s Two Friends and Arturo Arias’ Toward Patzun. Both stories have the same thematic structure as the harshness and brutality during wartime situation is a similar concern to the aforementioned writers. Although both writers foreground the savagery of war, the different cultural background, nationality, literary tradition cause differences in the way both writer narrate their short stories. While De Maupassant depicts the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871), Arias squares his narration in the Guatemalan civil war (1960-1996). The differences of canonical status between De Maupassant and Arias is also scrutinized in this paper. While De Maupassant is a household name in Western literary tradition, the popularity of Arias remains obscure. This paper argues that the differences in canonization is linked also with the status of Two Friends in the hypercanon, on the other hand Toward Patzun is located in the countercanon. It is hoped that this paper can contribute toward questioning the privileged status of Western literary works compared to the non-Western author.

The article artistically analyzes the story of the Alash intellectual Alikhan Bukeikhan "Chameleon", translated by him from the Russian classic writer A. P. Chekhov. In addition, this article examines the original style, artistic features of the translator Alikhan Bukeikhan in the translation of a work of art and his contribution to the field of translation. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Alash intelligentsia made a great contribution to the development of culture and science of the Kazakh society. They wrote textbooks from different fields of science to educate the educated generation. The Alash intelligentsia conducted cultural work on the education of the high generation, contributed to the opening of theaters and schools of the European system. They published their articles in periodicals in order to reveal people's literacy, broaden their horizons and present them with works of masterpieces of world literature. And the topic we are aiming at is the contribution of Alikhan Bokeikhan to the field of translation in Kazakh literature. Alikhan Bukeikhan is a translator who is deeply immersed in the translation business. He translated many works of art, scientific and educational works and textbooks from Russian into Kazakh. Among the listed translation works, Alikhan paid special attention to the translation of fiction. A. Bukeikhan translated stories, fables and novellas of masterpieces of world literature, published his translations on the pages of the press. He has the stories «Surta Coffee House», «Hadji Murad», «The Caucasian Prisoner», «The Sun» translated by Leo Tolstoy and Aesop, as well as «Seventy-seven Fables». He also translated into Kazakh many works of Guy de Maupassant, such as «Simon's Father», «The Old Woman Sauvage» from Fr. Wilde, «Makar's Dream» by Korolenko, «Sparrow» by Turgenev, «Kara Khanim» by Mamin-Sibirnyak, «Baymakan», «Legend of the Crimea», «Letter to Bogamet», «Death of Gere», «Azamat Yusuf» by N. Marks. In this article we analyzed the story of Alikhan Bukeikhan "Chameleon" translated by A. P. Chekhov. When comparing literary translations created by A. Bukeikhan, we have identified several features of translation characteristic of him. Alikhan Bukeikhan knew the Russian language very well as a translator; in his translation, he sought to freely translate the work of art, preserve the idea and content of the work; A. Bukeikhan translated the work in line with the Kazakh self-consciousness; he paid more attention to its spiritual influence than to the artistic specifics of the work. Literary translation in Kazakh literature, founded by Abai, Ybyray, Shakarim, was continued in the early twentieth century by such Alash intellectuals as A.Baitursynuly, A.Bokeikhan, J.Aimautuly, M.Dulatuly. Artistic translations created by A.Bukeikhan in Kazakh literature today are distinguished by their originality.

This paper provides a textual comparison of selected primary sources on medieval mathematics written in Sanskrit and medieval Latin for the first time. By emphasising literary features instead of purely mathematical ones, it attempts to shed light on a neglected area in the study of scientific treatises which concerns lexicon and argument strategies. The methodological perspective takes into account the intellectual context of knowledge production of the sources presented; the medieval Indian and Latin traditions are historically connected, in fact, by one of the most fascinating episodes in the history of knowledge transfer across cultures: the transmission of the decimal place value system. This cross-linguistic analysis compares and contrasts the versatile textuality and richness of forms defining the interplay between language and number in medieval Sanskrit and Latin works; it employs interdisciplinary methods (Philology, History of Science, and Literary Studies) and challenges disciplinary boundaries by putting side by side languages and textual cultures which are commonly treated separately. The purpose in writing this research is to expand upon recent scholarship on the Global Middle Ages by embracing an Eastern literary culture and, in doing so, to promote comparative studies which include non-European traditions. Previous literature is laden with research on Browning’s dramatic monologues from various perspectives. This paper will compare Browning’s dramatic monologues with Derwesh Durrani’s poetry from socio-literary perspective. Literary theories of analogy and variation will be used to find out similarities and differences in their poetry. Two poems from each poet have been selected for analysis through close reading technique on the model of theories of variation and analogy. Stratified sampling technique was used for taking the representative sample from the data. The findings reveals that Darwesh’s poetry exhibits most of the dramatic features of Browning’s dramatic monologues, but his poetry is more poetic, while Browning’s poetry is more dramatic; Browning invigorates the past, Darwesh recreates the present. In addition, Browning’s poems deals with domestic issues like gender violence, love and marriage, Darwesh’s poetry deals with social issues and patriotism, and contrary to Browning, he stands for women’s rights and sensibilities. This paper suggests further studies purely from socio-cultural perspective of Darwesh’s dramatic monologues, which will contribute to the existing literature on dramatic monologues.

Purpose: The article analyzes the literature-critical publications of Aksenov of the late 1920s and the first half of the 1930s with the aim of examining the personality and creativity of Shakespeare via socio-cultural, comparative-historical, historical-genetic, socio-cultural and biographical methods. Methodology: In accordance with the subject of study, comparative-historical, cultural-historical and historical-typological methods, methods of problem and comparative analysis were used. Main Findings: As a result, Aksenov systematically destroyed the widespread misconception of the epoch that Shakespeare was almost the only pillar of Elizabethan drama. In conclusion, Aksenov considered literary flair a special merit of Shakespeare, with which he was editing the material, without hiding the merits of his predecessors and without correcting or giving realistic contours to mysterious characters. Applications: This research can be used by literary students, from universities and other literary centers. Novelty/Originality: In this research, Shakespeare’s personality and creativity were studied from his literary-critical works.

The article is devoted to the review of the prospects of multidisciplinary media-cultural studies in modern comparative literature studies towards comparative cultural studies and transmedial naratology. Comparative cultural studies syncretically combine the concepts of comparative literary criticism with the study of culture in the aspect of media-cultural studies, not limited to literature, but also various arts, mass media, computer games, etc. Literature is understood only as one of the media among other media. This is a transdisciplinary turn in comparative literature studies. Comparative naratology, and later transmedial naratology, in turn, is seen as a new discipline on the verge of literary comparativism, intermedialism, and naratology. The typology of intermedial forms of naratology in the classifications of Werner Wolf, Marie-Laure Ryan, and Jan-Noël Thon is discussed. Modern studies of various medial forms of narratives, which may also be presented in cinema, painting, graphic arts, ballet, comic books, and other mediums, and the discovery of the intermedial properties of narratives, lead to a rethinking of the fact that all narratives have a purely linguistic nature. Modern naratology as a separate discipline tends to go beyond purely literary narrative and transfer the concept of narration to other types of arts. Intermediate methodologies have already entered into comparative literature studies and have been successfully used in the analysis of literary works. It is about syncretic theoretical and methodological synthesis of three branches of art studies — naratology, intermedialism and literary comparativism, cross-disciplinary narrative studies. The combination of narrative and intermedial approaches to literature is becoming one of the most urgent tendencies of modern both naratology and the theory and practice of intermediality.

The study aims at depicting how male and female authors portray female characters and how their core ideologies and social influences affect these depictions. This study is based on the feminist stylistic approach, proposed by Sara Mills (1995), embedded with the literary theory of feminism. It is an overlapping field that has its roots in critical discourse analysis. This stance is significant as it allows to critically look at the substance to uncover the ideology related to women. From a feminist stylistic perspective, the notion of presenting the distorted image of the female entity is associated with male authors leading to the point that female authors portray female characters positively as compared to their male counterparts. By employing Halliday’s transitivity framework (2004) in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) as an analytic tool, the utterances of the female protagonists from both the novels: The Blithedale Romance by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, have been analysed into the process, participants and circumstances. Social influence, mostly in the form of male domination, on ideologies and linguistic choices in the depiction of women in both the writers’ work has been found on almost equal grounds.

AbstractThis article examines writing as the last link in the epistemology-theory-methodology alignment. Although political scientists dedicate a great deal of their time to writing, conversations on this topic remain scarce within international relations and political science overall. Notably absent are analyses of the actual writing choices scholars make and what these mean for the knowledge they produce. This article uses the tools of literary analysis to take a closer look at the mechanics of three published academic articles in the fields of international relations and comparative politics. It focuses on how qualitative interviews are written, demonstrates how authors can conceal or reveal the dialogical dimension, and examines how they deal with the conundrum of the representation of research participants. This kind of reflexive analysis reveals the epistemological foundations of a given research article and can be used to identify instances of misrepresentation and misalignment. As such, it is an important tool for the improvement of academic writing.

Celem artykułu jest wykazanie podobieństw na poziomie konstruk­cji młodych bohaterów w tekstach literackich i dziele filmowym z uwzględnieniem takich kategorii jak dekonstrukcja stereotypów Indian, humor umożliwiający przetrwanie (survival humor – Lincoln 1993) oraz kwestii gatunkowych. Ta ostatnia kategoria obejmuje opowieści o dojrzewaniu, opowieści drogi, opowieści o powrocie do domu (homing novels – Bevis 1987) oraz realizm magiczny. Wykorzystana metodologia to studia kulturowe, postkolonializm i postmodernizm. Autorka artykułu zamierza wykazać, że wiele środków stylistycznych wykorzystanych do konstrukcji postaci w serialu Reservation Dogs pojawiło się znacznie wcześniej w kanonicznych utworach współczesnej prozy rdzennych Amerykanów i twórcy serialu wydają się podejmować inteligentny dialog z tradycją literacką, ponieważ podobnie stawiają na afirmację współczesnej kultury indiańskiej, podkreślają jej związki z popkulturą i bardzo często wprowadzają czarny humor, oddając rdzennym Amerykanom sprawczość i kontrolę nad własną opowieścią. ABSTRACT The article is a comparative analysis of contemporary Native American fiction (Louise Erdrich’s novels Love Medicine and The Bingo Palace, Sherman Alexie’s short story collec­tion The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven), and the series Reservation Dogs by Taika Waititi and Sterlin Harjo. The aim of the article is to indicate similarities in the construction of young protagonists of the selected literary texts and the series, with an emphasis on Indian stereotype deconstruction, survival humour and the genres. This last category encompasses bildungsroman, road novel/story, homing novel/story and magical realism. The methodology used in the article includes cultural studies, postcolonialism and postmodernism. The author of the article wants to argue that many stylistic devices used in the character construction in Reservation Dogs have appeared much earlier in the canonical works of Native American fiction and Waititi and Harjo seem to enter into an intelligent dialogue with the literary tradition because similarly to it, they affirm contemporary indigenous culture, stress its connection with popular culture and very often introduce the black humour which turns Native Americans into subjects of their narratives and gives them back control over their own stories.

The object of this study is ancient Chinese literature, and its subject is the depiction of female characters in the literary works of Ancient China. The following research methods were chosen: meaningful analysis of specific female images in ancient Chinese literature; a comparative analysis of the typical characters of female characters, a comparative historical analysis of the images of women in literary works of various periods in the development of Ancient China, a historical analysis of the influence of literary works on the formation of female self-awareness. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that it is an analysis of female images in the literature of Ancient China from various points of view: in terms of historical development, terms of typical characters, and in terms of influence on modern women. Based on the results of the work done, the following conclusions are drawn: female images in Chinese literature have rapidly transformed as Chinese society has developed. The courageous and determined characters of literature have helped real Chinese females to boost their self-confidence to start fighting for their rights.

Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s Korupsi and Tahar Ben Jelloun’s Korupsi are two literary works of world writers who have similarities in terms of titles and themes. This study aims to find out and describe the structure, describe the similarities and differences, and knowing and describing the suitability between Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s Korupsi and Tahar Ben Jelloun’s Korupsi as material for literary learning at school. The object of this research is Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s Korupsi and Tahar Ben Jelloun’s Korupsi. Through the qualitative research paradigm, this research was conducted using descriptive methods of comparative analysis and objective approaches based on the literature itself. The data collection technique of this study uses library research. In connection with the comparative literary work step, research applies structural analysis by applying Robert Stanton's structuralism theory to reveal the similarities and differences contained in the two novels. Based on the results of comparative analysis of textual structures, we obtain a description of differences and similarities from two data sources so that it can be concluded that the Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s Korupsi influences to Tahar Ben Jelloun’s Korupsi as indicated by the use of titles, themes, characters and characterizations. The results of a comparative study of the Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s Korupsi and Tahar Ben Jelloun’s Korupsi are used as recommendations for literary learning in schools. The Corruption novel by Pramooedya Ananta Toer is suitable as a literary learning material in schools, while the Corruption novel Tahar Ben Jelloun is not appropriate because it does not meet 3 criteria and aspects of the selection of teaching materials, namely aspects of language, culture, and psychology.

Abstract:
The following article explores ekphrasis as a literary device in the context of the Russian and English language literary texts. The phenomenon of ekphrasis is regarded to be a relatively researched area in the literary criticism. However, the majority of the existing research focuses on the visual representations in the verbal medium, thereby neglecting the aspect of the reader’s possible interpretation of an ekphrastic description and its stylistic expression in a literary text. Thus, the aim of this article is to identify the specific language patterns constructing ekphrastic references in the Russian and English language literary texts by conducting a comparative linguo-cognitive analysis of ekphrastic intertextual references in Dina Rubina’s ‘On the Sunny Side of the Street’ (2006) and Margaret Atwood’s ‘Cat’s Eye’ (1988). The research is based on the comparative linguo-cognitive analysis combining the following cognitive poetic techniques: the ‘figure — ground’ dichotomy, the model of literary resonance, and the narrative interrelation theory. The analysis of the figure-ground relations in ekphrastic descriptions has shown that the main character takes the figure position and becomes a pronounced attractor, thereby exerting an affective influence on the reader’s perception. The application of the literary resonance model confirms this claim by identifying typical semantic, syntactic and stylistic features (attractors) of the character in the analysed ekphrastic passages. The comparison of an ekphrastic description to a passage which it is based on has revealed the characteristic parallelism of their syntactic and semantic patterns. In part, parallel constructions contain specific intertextual references that create links to an art object, thus actualising the representation of a picture in the reader’s perception. A comparative linguo-cognitive analysis of ekphrastic references in Russian and English literary texts has shown the possible intratextuality of ekphrastic references, which establish the relationships between plots within the narrative. Additionally, in both literary texts, ekphrastic references imitate the visual construction of an object of art at the semantic, syntactic and textual levels and, as a result, accentuate the metaphorical realisation of the presented artefact.

Abstract:
The article analyzes Y. Boyko-Blokhyn’s comparative model as an important integral concept element of Ukrainian emigre scholars comparative literary studies in the 1930s-1980s period (Y. Boyko-Blokhyn, M. Hnatyshak, S. Hordynsky, V. Derzhavyn, I. Kaczurowskyj, D. Chyzhevsky, Y. Sherekh and others). Approaches of the emigre scholar to literature comparative exploration are interpreted in the context of global comparative studies main trends, and placed against the views of the mainland comparative literary studies representatives. We clarified the distinguishing features of Y. Boyko-Blokhyn’s model, proved its multidimensional and multivector character, and ascertained comparatist attitudes relevance towards modern comparative literary studies, taking into account their development potential. This goes according to the purpose of the work and its tasks. This research applies advances in comparative historical analysis, methodology of both historic cultural and receptive aesthetic schools. Conceptual idea of the scholar shows his attention to contact-genetic relationship as well as typological similarities and differences. The author interprets functionality problem of inter-literary/ intercultural communication preeminently as a national literature stylistic development factor. The study reveals the interdisciplinary nature of Y. Boyko-Blokhyn’s works (with access to the realm of philosophy, psychology and cultural studies), and demonstrates his integration of contextual, intermedial and other approaches, which fundamentally enriched methodological tools of comparative literary studies. Reflections of Y. Boyko-Blokhyn on the problem of Slavic literatures comparative study, while witnessing the author’s inherent interest in national identity problem, emphasized and deepened research of Slavic, specifically East Slavic, literatures as a fundamental component of the European cultural space. They also substantiated the demand for changes in approach to study the East Slavic region, particularly historical and literary processes in Belarusian, Ukrainian, and Russian literatures. Scientist’s observations and conclusions, aimed at understanding Ukrainian literature in the European context, broaden drastically the idea of its peculiarity, with an emphasis on the features conditioned by its development (T. Shevchenko – G. Byron, R. Burns, J.W. Goethe, A. Dante, G. Leopardi, A. Mickiewicz, T. Moore, Novalis, S. Petőfi, W. Shakespeare, F. Schiller; I. Franko – G. Byron, E.T.A. Hoffmann, A. Chamisso; Lesya Ukrainka – G. Hauptmann, M. Maeterlinck, O. Wilde and others). The researcher traces occurrences of literary reception by the national literature of other nations artistic and aesthetic experiences at various levels of comparative poetics (themes, motives, style, etc.) Conclusion. We proved an important role of Y.Boyko-Blokhyn’s comparative model, who developed impactful traditions of national comparative literary studies of the second half of the 19th century – first third of the 20th century, and at the same time rethought (including through denial) western methodologies, in development not only of Ukrainian, but also of the global literature science as a whole. Insights and ideas of the emigre scholar, many of which were often ahead of his foreign colleagues ideas (A. Balakian, H. Bloom, U. Weisstein, D. Durishin, A. Popovich, H.R. Jauss and others), remain relevant even nowadays. Y. Boyko-Blokhyn’s approaches to comparative study of literatures in the world context with a special emphasis on the problem of national identity apparently acquired the utmost importance during the era of globalization. Similar logic of thinking is affine to those modern authors who insist to study first differences between national creative writings, which according to their deep conviction enrich and diversify the global cultural universe (A. Balakian, C.Bernheimer, E. Kaspersky, F. Toudoire-Surlapierre and others). In contrast to “cultural unification scenarios”, Y. Boyko-Blokhyn’s reflections which draw attention to different literatures/cultures polylogue phenomenon, their mutual understanding and enrichment, are based on the following fundamental thesis: “originality is a runner to commonality” (it is also of fundamental importance for formation of comparative literary history concept). It’s emblematic that the Ukrainian scientist back then strongly denied the position of R. Wellek and R.Warren, who absolutized the tendency to universalization of the global literary process. Instead, Y. Boyko-Blokhyn argued for study of national version of pan-European style (romanticism, realism, modernism), traditional plots and characters, and he also scaled out radically the influence range idea as a manifestation of literary reception, with an emphasis on its creative character (from influence as a repulsion to influence as an “activity stimulus”, “impulse for self-movement”). In fact, these reflections of Y. Boyko-Blokhyn anticipated approaches of those scholars who justified later the concept of active perception as opposed to passive influence, actualizing the role of recipient in the process of inter-literary communication (H.R. Jauss), thesis about the decisive role of the recipient literature (D. Durishin), interpretive theory – “fear of influence” (H.Bloom). Y. Boyko-Blokhyn’s conceptual thoughts about understanding the “reverse influences” problem, as well as related matter of contribution of each Slavic, in particular East Slavic, literature to the global cultural heritage, are extremely consonant with arguments that have been in the researchers’ focus even in these recent times (M. Boehmig, O. Pachlovska). In conclusion we can say that Y. Boyko-Blokhyn’s comparative model which is characterized by nation-centric orientation emphasizes fundamentally the prospects for further scientific research in historical, literary and comparative dimensions, first of all in projection of such methodologies inherent to modern comparative literary studies as imagology, theory of intertextuality and cultural transfer

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the study of the stylistic resources in literary discourses of the Austrian writer Stefan Zweig and the British writer William Somerset Maugham. The study is conducted on the material of the novel «Impatience of the Heart» (Ungeduld des Herzens), as well as on the material of the novel «The Painted Veil». The purpose of the work is achieved by applying a comprehensive method of comparative, interpretative and stylistic analysis. It is established that one of the most common approaches to the study of texts is a discursive approach. The essential components in this approach are such subjects as the author, the reader, as well as the text itself. A distinctive feature of the texts of literary discourse is the active use of means of stylistic expression and of other stylistically marked linguistic units. The article examines the usage features of metaphors, epithets, and comparisons from the standpoint of the discursive study of literary texts, as well as their functional specifics. A quantitative comparative analysis of the studied material is carried out. It is established that the means of literary expression in belles-lettres discourse realize the following functions: description of the internal and external portrait of the characters of the work, description of the actions of the characters, description of the plot events of the literary work, as well as detailing landscapes and various objects of the realities of the literary work. The analysis of the material showed that the literary discourse of the two authors under study has certain similarities and differences. Both in the text of the novel «Ungeduld des Herzens» and in the text of the novel «The Painted Veil», the most frequent function of stylistic devices was the function of portraying characters. The study showed that the quantitative ratio of stylistic devices among the authors is different: the most frequent means of expression in a German-language novel was an epithet, in an English-language novel – a comparison. The scientific novelty of the research consists in the study of the functional specificity of stylistic devices with the help of discursive study in a comparative aspect of different linguocultures. The prospect of the research is further consideration of the means of literary expression in literary texts of various genres in a comparative aspect.

Twelve Years a Slave is a work was written by Solomon Northup which is based on his journey life when he was become slave for twelve years. This work was adapted into movie, in 2013 with the same title. This study aims to find the differences and similarities of both version of literary work and its movie and to identify the process of adapting of literary work (narrative slave) into adaptation work (movie). The method used was document analysis and showcase the screenshot with using the structuralism which focus on the intrinsic elements of the story and comparing it with intrinsic elements on movie adaptation.This data analysis shows that there are many changes that occur in the adaptation work during the adaptation process.That was because the changes of medium and how to deliver the message be adjusted with duration and the existence of other supporting things such as the addition, reduction and improvisation of the scene.
