Abstract:
The objective of this study was to test higher-order statistical (HOS) parameters for the classification of young and elderly voice signals and identify gender- and age-related differences through HOS analysis. This study was based on data from 116 subjects (58 females and 58 males) extracted from the Saarbruecken voice database. In the gender analysis, the same number of voice samples were analyzed for each sex. Further, we conducted experiments on the voices of elderly people using gender analysis. Finally, we reviewed the standards and reference models to reduce sex and gender bias. The acoustic parameters were extracted from young and elderly voice signals using Praat and a time–frequency analysis program (TF32). Additionally, we investigated the gender- and age-related differences in HOS parameters. Young and elderly voice signals significantly differed in normalized skewness (p = 0.005) in women and normalized kurtosis (p = 0.011) in men. Therefore, normalized skewness is a useful parameter for distinguishing between young and elderly female voices, and normalized kurtosis is essential for distinguishing between young and elderly male voices. We will continue to investigate parameters that represent important information in elderly voice signals.

Abstract: This research paper provides an insight into the comparison between VoLTE and 4G. 4G Wireless Systems or Fourth generation wireless system is a packet switched wireless system with wide area coverage and high throughput. It is designed to be cost effective and to provide high spectral efficiency. VoLTE (voice over LTE) supports voice calls over 4G LTE network. With advanced VoLTE technology, the 4G network now provides high-speed data services, high-quality voice and video calls at affordable price. This paper first presents the challenges and benefits of both 4G and VoLTE and then compares them with consideration of different points. Keywords: GSM, LTE, VoLTE, 3G, HSPA, RAN

Abstract:
This paper analyzes the textual function of cultural representation of subaltern identity in the construction and maintenance of First and Third World relations in Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre and Jean Rhys’s Wide Sargasso Sea. It focuses on dominant discursive practices that pervade the texts, exploring how the hegemonic ideology of the West is operational in constructing value systems while simultaneously rendering the Third World subjects as subaltern. Both works are upheld by language use that facilitates the understanding of hierarchical structures of power relations and the possibilities of resistance to that project. It shows how Mr. Rochester has been a dominant voice and an authoritative figure in the dehumanizing legacy of patriarchy and imperialism. In Jane Eyre the dominant discursive space restricts the individual identity of Bertha Mason about whom no subjective voice is given to her to claim her identity. But Wide Sargasso Sea functions as a “re-inscription” of Jane Eyre in the sense that Antoinette/Bertha voices and struggle for her identity. Her subjectivity and individual identity are not given but distorted by dominant power structures and discourses that presents ideological contention in the existing social relations and identities.

AbstractObjectives:A wide range of well validated instruments is now available to assess voice quality and voice-related quality of life, but comparative studies of the responsiveness to change of these measures are lacking. The aim of this study was to assess the responsiveness to change of a range of different measures, following voice therapy and surgery.Design:Longitudinal, cohort comparison study.Setting:Two UK voice clinics.Participants:One hundred and forty-four patients referred for treatment of benign voice disorders, 90 undergoing voice therapy and 54 undergoing laryngeal microsurgery.Main outcome measures:Three measures of self-reported voice quality (the vocal performance questionnaire, the voice handicap index and the voice symptom scale), plus the short form 36 (SF 36) general health status measure and the hospital anxiety and depression score. Perceptual, observer-rated analysis of voice quality was performed using the grade–roughness–breathiness–asthenia–strain scale. We compared the effect sizes (i.e. responsiveness to change) of the principal subscales of all measures before and after voice therapy or phonosurgery. Results:All three self-reported voice measures had large effect sizes following either voice therapy or surgery. Outcomes were similar in both treatment groups. The effect sizes for the observer-rated grade–roughness–breathiness–asthenia–strain scale scores were smaller, although still moderate. The roughness subscale in particular showed little change after therapy or surgery. Only small effects were observed in general health and mood measures. Conclusion:The results suggest that the use of a voice-specific questionnaire is essential for assessing the effectiveness of voice interventions. All three self-reported measures tested were capable of detecting change, and scores were highly correlated. On the basis of this evaluation of different measures' sensitivities to change, there is no strong evidence to favour either the vocal performance questionnaire, the voice handicap index or the voice symptom scale.

Abstract:
Introduction. This article is a development of an earlier study on the grammatical categories of the verb in Hungarian in comparison with Russian. The subject of study in this work is the grammatical category of voice, one of the most common verbal categories, typical for Russian verbs and absent in the Hungarian language, as well as the ways of its transmission when translated into Hungarian. The purpose of this work is to analyze the grammatical forms of the Hungarian and Russian verbs expressing voice relations and to establish the corresponding equivalents of the category of voice in Russian in the Hungarian language. Materials and Methods. The research material is verbal vocabulary selected from lexicographic works (dictionaries of the Hungarian and Russian languages), linguistic and journalistic sources, grammars of the Hungarian language. The article considers both the written form of the modern Hungarian language and examples from live colloquial speech. The methodological framework of this study is based on researches on general linguistics, the theory of morphology, contributing to the formulation of the problem, determining the degree of its development in the research literature, as well as familiarizing with the conceptual approaches to the voice as an ambiguously interpreted grammatical category of the verb. The methods used in the study are comparative-typological, synchronous-descriptive and functional-semantic methods. Results and Discussion. In the course of study it revealed how inflectional and derivational means helping to express the grammatical semantics of the category of voice in Russian can adequately convey the categorical meaning in the Hungarian language, in which the category of voice is absent. The comparative study of two languages helps to identify the features inherent in each of them, which generally contributes to solving the problems associated with the practice of their teaching. The results of the work based on the data of the ongoing research may be useful in the analysis of other grammatical categories on the material of various languages. Conclusion. Despite the fact that verbs in the Hungarian language do not have a passive voice, the means and forms of its expression are represented in it by a developed and diverse system. The study allows making a step forward in understanding the typological specifics of the voice category and make a certain contribution to the general theory of this phenomenon, since it was the first study of the verb forms of two heterogeneous, genetically unrelated languages based on a comparative analysis in grammatical, semantic and functional aspects.

Voice in healthcare is crucial because of its ability to improve organizational performance and prevent medical errors. This paper contends that a comparative analysis of voice promotion in the American and German healthcare industries can strengthen a culture of safety in both countries. It provides a brief introduction to the concept of voice in healthcare, including its impact on safety culture, barriers to voice, and the dual influences of confidentiality and transparency on voice promotion policies. It then examines the theoretical basis, practical workings, and legal aspects of voluntary error reporting and error disclosure as avenues for exercising voice in the U.S. and Germany. Finally, it identifies transferable practices that can remedy shortcomings in each country's voice promotion policy.

Abstract:
Taking a comparative corpus-based approach, the article examines the use of the passive voice in Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish written as well as spoken language. More specifically, we measure the relative frequency of the passive voice in general and in its two forms — periphrastic and morphological — within two written and two oral genres. Although we find differences in the relative frequency of the passive voice, with Danish and Norwegian being more similar than Swedish, the basic pattern is identical across the three languages. Situational and stylistic factors — especially the degree of formality — appear more important for the choice of passive voice than the distinction between written and spoken media. More formal genres use more passive voice and have a preference for the morphological passive, whereas less formal genres tend to use less passive voice with the periphrastic passive playing a relatively more prominent role.

Abstract:
The article reveals the issue of forming future voice teachers’ artistic-didactic competence during their professional training at the university. Consequently, an important result of the latter is acquisition by the student of the artistic-didactic competence, which becomes one of the key competences in the process of fulfilling the functions of a voice teacher. The purpose of the article is to highlight methodological and methodical foundations of forming future voice teachers’ artistic-didactic competence, in particular to justify the expediency of using certain principles and general scientific approaches with their concretization in the methodological plane. To achieve the aim of the scientific publication, a complex of theoretical research methods was used – general scientific (analysis, generalization, systematization, extrapolation) and specific scientific, in particular, retrospective and comparative analysis and pedagogical discourse, which helped to generalize scientific opinion on the methodological foundations of research in the field of music pedagogy and to clarify the ways of solving the task of forming future voice teachers’ artistic-didactic competence. The results. In the course of a comparative and comparative analysis of the intelligence of Ukrainian and Chinese scientists, it was established that the specification of general scientific approaches and principles in the field of vocal teaching methods allows researchers to use a set of didactic principles, in particular of: continuity, individualization of the educational process, integrity, scientificity, systematicity and consistency, visibility, the unity of the technical and artistic component of vocal art, etc. Conclusions. The article establishes that among the methodological foundations there should be singled out, first of all, anthropological, culturological, personal and dialogical approaches. The latter includes opportunities for interaction of the cultural-anthropological approaches as meeting and interpenetration of artistic and human, artistic-aesthetic and creative-volitional beginnings. The concretization of general scientific approaches and didactic principles in the methodical plane creates methodical foundations for the future voice teachers’ artistic-didactic competence formation, in particular: the principle of continuity ensures preservation of performance traditions of academic vocals and methodical experience of their teaching; the principle of integrity allows considering formation of artistic-didactic competence in the unity of theoretical, methodological and artistic-performing aspects; the principle of scientificity directs development of the author’s methods and their practical verification; the principle of consistency and systematicity in combination with the principle of accessibility provides a gradual complication of the content, methods and techniques of forming future voice teachers’ artistic-didactic competence.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND Although post-operative sore throat, cough and hoarseness of voice (HOV) are minor sequelae after general anaesthesia (GA), these can be troublesome to the patient. This study was done to compare the efficacy of betamethasone gel and lignocaine jelly as lubricants in reducing post-operative sore throat and hoarseness of voice in patients operated under general anaesthesia with orotracheal intubation. METHODS This interventional study compares the incidence of post-operative sore throat and hoarseness of voice after endotracheal intubation on applying betamethasone gel (betamethasone group) or lignocaine jelly (lignocaine group) on the tracheal tube. 120 American Society of Anaesthesiologist (ASA) class I and class II patients who had undergone elective surgeries under general anaesthesia were divided into two groups: betamethasone group and lignocaine group. All patients were enquired on post-operative sore throat and hoarseness of voice at 1, 6 and 24 hours after extubation in the post-anaesthesia care unit. RESULTS The incidence of no sore throat, mild, moderate and severe post-operative sore throat at 24 hours after extubation in betamethasone group was 75.0 %, 23.3 %, 1.7 % and 0 % respectively compared to lignocaine group which was 33.3 %, 53.3 %, 6.7 % and 6.7 % respectively (P value < 0.05). The incidence of sore throat was found lower in the betamethasone group than in lignocaine group at intervals 1, 6, 24 hours post extubation with P value < 0.05. The incidence of no HOV, grade 1 HOV, grade 2 HOV and grade 3 HOV in betamethasone group was 46.7 %, 48.3 %, 5.0 % and 0 % respectively compared to lignocaine group which was 25.0 %, 46.7 %, 25.0 % and 3.3 % respectively with P value < 0.05. CONCLUSIONS This study proves that betamethasone gel, when used for lubrication of endotracheal tube pre-operatively, has shown to be effective in decreasing postoperative sore throat and hoarseness of voice. AbstractObjective:To compare clinical outcomes and complication rates in patients undergoing injection laryngoplasty performed under local versus general anaesthesia. Methods:A retrospective review was conducted of patients who underwent injection laryngoplasty performed by a single laryngologist in a tertiary Australian laryngology centre, between February 2013 and December 2014. Patient demographics, anaesthetic modality and complications were recorded. Voice Handicap Index 10 and the Grade, Breathiness, Roughness, Asthenia, Strain scale were evaluated.Results:Thirty-four laryngoplasties were performed under general anaesthesia and 41 under local anaesthesia, with mean patient ages of 59.5 and 68.8 years, respectively. Voice Handicap Index 10 scores were significantly improved post-injection (p< 0.001), with no significant difference between general anaesthesia and local anaesthesia (p> 0.05). All aspects of the Grade, Breathiness, Roughness, Asthenia, Strain scale showed significant improvement post-injection, except asthenia. There were seven (9.3 per cent) minor complications (five in the general anaesthesia group, two in the local anaesthesia group), all managed conservatively. Conclusion:Injection laryngoplasties performed under general anaesthesia and local anaesthesia offer similar voice outcomes, with comparable complication rates. Hence, development of a management algorithm for injection laryngoplasties performed under local anaesthesia is recommended.

Diagnosis on the basis of a computerized acoustic examination may play an incredibly important role in early diagnosis and in monitoring and even improving effective pathological speech diagnostics. Various acoustic metrics test the health of the voice. The precision of these parameters also has to do with algorithms for the detection of speech noise. The idea is to detect the disease pathology from the voice. First, we apply the feature extraction on the SVD dataset. After the feature extraction, the system input goes into the 27 neuronal layer neural networks that are convolutional and recurrent neural network. We divided the dataset into training and testing, and after 10 k-fold validation, the reported accuracies of CNN and RNN are 87.11% and 86.52%, respectively. A 10-fold cross-validation is used to evaluate the performance of the classifier. On a Linux workstation with one NVidia Titan X GPU, program code was written in Python using the TensorFlow package.

For comparison, each patient's voice was recorded and assessed perceptually using the grade–roughness–breathiness–aesthenia–strain scale. The reliability and validity of the three self-reported vocal performance measures were assessed in all subjects, while 50 completed the questionnaires again to assess repeatability. Results:The results of the 170 participants with completed data sets showed that all three questionnaires had high levels of internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.81–0.95) and repeatability (voice handicap index = 0.83; vocal performance questionnaire = 0.75; voice symptom scale = 0.63). Concurrent and criterion validity were also good, although, of the grade–roughness–breathiness–aesthenia–strain subscales, roughness was the least well correlated with the self-reported measures. Conclusion:The vocal performance questionnaire, the voice handicap index and the voice symptom scale are all reliable and valid instruments for measuring the patient-perceived impact of a voice disorder.

The article is devoted to the speech prosody analysis of digital assistants and their functions in the modern world. Peculiarities of their functioning in different spheres, in particular in educational, are considered and as well as tasks which they perform. Synthetic speech prosody is investigated on the example of voice assistants which speak in a female, male and genderless voice. Characteristics of melody (melodic scales and terminal tones), FF and intensity range, tempo and pause features, voice quality were taken into account. In the course of comparative study some identical and distinctive features of assistants’ speech were singled out. The results of the experiment demonstrate variability of prosodic parameters, used by digital assistants. Voice differentiation and different degrees of expressiveness depend on the sphere of application, users’ preferences and communication context.

In today’s market, AI is taking place globally in the world. The AI and voice system are published multiple times in various movies like IRON-MAN, SKYSCRAPER, etc. Unlike the original origin, artificial intelligence was developed as a system that can think like a human or better than a human and can help directly or indirectly to develop, learn, and perform system-oriented operations like in the movie of Iron-Man is a version of the AI called Jarvis which is an intelligent computer that can perform the system-oriented operations that converses in a large scale with the humans, the AI monitors his lifestyle and helps to build its computer program for his superhero suit. The SAARUSH AI system was inspired by the Jarvis AI system. Saarush is a digital life assistant that primarily leverages human communication methods which establish two-way contact with humans and aid them with chores such as cooking, facebook alerts, and many more. Because we mostly communicate by voice in our project, Saarush is essentially a speech recognition program. The term "speech technology" refers to two technologies: synthesizers and recognizers. The human voice is a signal that contains an endless quantity of data. Jarvis is the name of Tony Stark's assistant in the Superhero films. This one is frequently the result of multiple contributors' overcontribution, such as the usability but also the capability of AIML dynamic merging with portals such as Python [pyttsx] but instead gTTS, which results in the same JARVIS standard, structure with general reusability but little or no maintainability.

Abstract:
Chinese vernacular fiction is characterized by a simulated storytelling mode through which the narrator manipulates narration and facilitates interaction with the reader. There is little research on the representation of this distinctive Chinese narrative mode across languages and cultures. Recently scholars in translation studies have begun to focus on how different types and levels of voice are represented in translated texts. The present article investigates how the overt voice of the simulated storyteller characterizing the Chinese vernacular narrative style is represented in three complete English translations of a Chinese classic entitled Shuihu Zhuan. The article includes a comparative study of how the storyteller-narrator manifests his narrative voice through storytelling formulae and rhetorical narratorial questions and more importantly, on how the storyteller-narrator’s voice has been rendered by different translators. Besides, by relating the reproduction of narrative voice to translatorship, it shows that the professional role and status of each translator influence their strategy-making as to whether, and to what extent, the narrative voice of the source text should be reconstructed.

Abstract:
Speaker recognition (SR) or identification is the subset of broad area of Pattern recognition. Given the features of the voice print, the recognition system identifies the speaker from the knowledge of the speaker models stored in the database. In today’s world when many of our works are done through voice, recognition of the speaker is necessary.Recently, SR has also gained importance in Internet of Things (IoT) like setting up of smart environments for home, industries or educational and commercial applications. The race for high accuracy needs making the devices used in these smart environments as close to human hearing capacity as possible. Speaker identification is mostly used to establish negative recognition. Negative recognition is when thesystem decides whether a person is who he disagrees to be thus preventing a person from exploiting multiple identities. Only biometrics will be suitable to establish such identification. The feature extraction of voice sample along with comparative analysis of its methods is of fundamental interest in this paper. We try to compare the performance of features which are used in state of art speaker recognition models and analyse variants of Mel frequency cepstrum coefficients (MFCC) predominantly used in feature extraction which can be further incorporated and used in various smart devices.

Social media take-up in Vietnam arouses both hope and scepticism, and becomes an innovative tool for critical matters. This article examines the blogosphere in Vietnam through a comparative study of the Vietnamese blogosphere and state media. The research found that while state media operate as a voice of the agents of the state, social media provide a means to capture the voice of the community and to participate in public discussion through commentary to posts, as well as a platform for those who want to speak out. As a result, there is a tension between the reporting of general information and the voice of state agencies in state media. Abstract:
In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of people suffering from functional disorders of voice, usually caused by a psychoemotional stress. Such disorders bring significant discomfort to a person's life as they reduce their communication and social adaptation capacitty, which in turn increases the psychoemotional load. As a result, functional disorders are fixed by the vicious circle mechanism o and can be transformed into the pathology of the speech apparatus. The main method of diagnosis remains expert assessment, which directly depends on the professional skills of a specialist in working with voice. In this connection, the issue of developing such systems for diagnosing voice-speech disorders that would allow for an objective assessment based on the processing of voice-speech characteristics, as well as to identify the violation in time and prevent the development of pathology, is relevant. Such methods and systems can be useful both for diagnostics and for monitoring the effectiveness of voice therapy. The existing methods of hardware diagnostics have not yet found their application in practice due to their inconsistency with the results of expert evaluation. In this paper, we propose a new concept of hardware and software complex for the analysis of voice based on acoustic characteristics of a set of harmonics of the voice signal. A VASA (Voice and Speech Analyzing system) complex has been developed that provides an automatic analysis of the amplitudes of the first 16 harmonics. The tests performed on three volunteers showed a high level of reproducibility and repeatability (within 10 % < %R&R < 30 %), sufficient for conducting comparative studies on healthy people and people with functional speech disorders.

Abstract:
The article seeks to explore the discourse and linguistic means through which the Introduction section of Research Medical Articles (RMA) achieve their goals. For that purpose, we have analyzed 207 original RMA in Bulgarian and 129 in English. The articles have been excerpted from prestigious Bulgarian and high-ranking impact factor English language journals. Four major rhetorical moves have been found to guide the discourse flow in the Introduction sections in both corpora – Bulgarian Corps (BC) and English-language Corps (EC). These are: Move 1 - Introducing the general topic; Move 2: Move 2 – Transition to specific topic; Move 3: Move 3 – Identifying a gap and Move 4 – Aim of research. In connection with the realization of the rhetorical objectives of the Introduction section, basic lexical means have been identified and presented. We used the concept metaterm introduced by Mavrodieva and Tisheva (Mavrodieva and Tisheva 2014). We divided the metaterms into general and specific. It has been proven that a certain type of polysemous nouns are of particular importance in the medical context and can therefore be considered as specific metaterms. In both corpora, a number of variable and unchangeable parts of speech have been discovered that are typical of the RMA. Essential to the cohesion and coherence of texts are the so-called high-frequency words: nouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions, adverbs, collocations and colligations. Regarding Tense and Voice, it has been pointed out that in line with the tradition of the Bulgarian scientific discourse community, the main tense is the so-called Generalized Present Tense (Uslozhneno segashno vreme), whereas in the English-language Corps these are Present Simple and Present Perfect. As for Voice, the BC articles make use mostly of Active Voice, while Passive Voice is used to refer to problems in focus and with impersonal constructions. A peculiar feature of scientific texts in Bulgarian is the use of reflexive verbs with the particle se. The specificity of the sentence structure in the Introduction includes the so-called in Bulgarian linguistics “complicated simple sentences”, including many pre and post modifiers, heavy complementation, as well as compound and complex sentences. Some of the most important discursive elements of this section of RMA are also analyzed. The comparison is direct between the two corpora, and the elements under scrutiny cover such aspects of discourse as hedging and, discourse markers (DM). With regard to the first element, hedging, from a theoretical point of view, it is important to emphasize that hedge structures are a form of the author's Ethos and identity, its degree of presence in the text. We have noted the role of DM as linking devices in the text, marking the boundaries of Steps and Moves in the RMA and indicating a change in the information flow and in the authors’ stance.

Abstract:
Background. Despite the vast musical material associated with the embodiment in the choral texture of the highest polyphonic form – the fugue, there is lack of the literature that would outline the specificity of this arrangement, its fundamental principles. Many researchers have addressed choral polyphony on the material of the works of various composers. However, the problem of identifying the specificity of the choral fugue hasn’t been highlighted yet as a major issue in domestic musicology. Among the most recent works, which include the consideration of the issue of choral fugue, we should mention the capital study by N. Simakova (2007). The author offers a classification of choral fugue, depending on the accompaniment presence or absence. N. Simakova points out the importance of the timbre content of the theme for emphasizing the figurative content of the words, since the most striking in the process of the deployment of the fugue is the register-timbre modus, and the timbre coloring of soprano, alto, tenor and bass gives a relief figurative representation. Objectives. The article’s subject is to reveal genre and performance peculiarities of the choral fugue “Und er wird Israel” from the cantata BWV 131 by Johann Sebastian Bach. The comparative analysis of two editions of the cantata – choral and instrumental (organ fugue BWV 131a) – reveals the determinants of the choral fugue connected with the peculiarities of its performance. Methods. The study is based on systematic-analytical, comparative and semantic musicological approaches. Results. Two factors play a particularly important role in a choral fugue – the verbal text and the timbre coloring of the voices. This way, both themes of the fugue sound vivid and recognizable even to the unaccustomed listener, since they have different text assigned to the theme and each theme is placed in the voice that corresponds to it tonally. The first theme – light and full of hope – is assigned to the timbral voice that corresponds to it, such as the soprano, while the second theme is assigned to the timbral rich, “heavy” bass part. In any section of the cantata fugue, unlike in the organ version, the themes will be well recognizable thanks to the verbal text and the timbre coloring of the various voices, whereas the timbre of the organ, in comparison with the sound of the choral parts, is monolithic, and the sound “attack” is viscous, leading to a lack of separation in the melodic line. Thus, the presence of a verbal text, fixed to a particular theme (or part of it) and the timbral dramaturgy determine particularly the specificity of the choral fugue. However, the potential of the human voice is known to be limited by its tessitura depending the physical capabilities , which in turn affects the structure of the theme and the form in general. For the two-voice fugue theme, in which the author seeks to emphasize contrast, the timbre and tessitura peculiarities is the most convenient solution. It is important to compare the musical material of the two versions, to search for the differences and their causes, which are connected with the possibilities of the instrumental presentation of the fugue. So, in order to adapt it for twohand performance, in the organ work we occasionally observe simplification, “removal”, of the texture, as well as the addition of the musical text in order to “outplay” with the different functions using the manual keyboards and the pedal on the organ. An important feature of the choral fugue is the orchestra presence, its peculiar instrumental double, which gives it a special stability. As a rule, this or that instrument is attached to a particular timbre that is associated with specific parts of the chorus. In most cases, the orchestral part in a given cantata duplicates all of the theme material in the chorus. The orchestra also provides a solid harmonic foundation for the choral parts, especially where tonality could be interpreted in two ways. The alto part plays a passive role throughout the entire fugue, and a thematic lead is assigned to it only twice, and this is not accidental, since the alto part is “hidden” within the texture, and for a varied two-theme fugue, the comparison of different themes and their registers becomes important in the first place. In the cantata, the fugue is the culmination, the emotional climax of the entire cycle, it sounds rich and dense, and the bright timbre richness of the orchestra complements the general majestic character of the sound. In the organ fugue, however, it is vice versa: here one can sense the borders of the sections of the generally accepted fugue form much more clearly, and simplicity and elegance predominate. The presence of episodic moments of the redistribution of the thematic material in one part between two different voices (belonging to one voice in the original choral source) testifies to the secondary nature of the timbre factor in the instrumental fugue; the main thing here is the presence of the thematic voice-conducting itself. Therefore, in the clavier (organ) arrangement, one theme can be observed in different voices. All these examples make it possible to consider the choral fugue as a unique, independent form enriched with its own specific features. Conclusions. Despite the abundance of literature devoted to the fugue theory in general, the phenomenon of the choral fugue has so far received insufficient research attention. In order to understand the nature of the choral fugue, it is necessary to consider the influence that such specifically “choral” factors as timbre, register, tessitura, verbal text, ensemble, and others have on its structure. The comparative analysis of the musical scores of “Und er wird Israel” from Bach’s cantata BWV 131 and the organ fugue BWV 131a revealed differences between the choral primary source and its organ version, which makes it possible to consider them as factors contributing to a better understanding of the choral fugue peculiarities.

Abstract:
With the growing number of voice-controlled devices, it is necessary to address the potential vulnerabilities of Automatic Speaker Verification (ASV) against voice spoofing attacks such as Physical Access (PA) and Logical Access (LA) attacks. To improve the reliability of ASV systems, researchers have developed various voice spoofing countermeasures. However, it is hard for the voice anti-spoofing systems to effectively detect the synthetic speech attacks that are generated through powerful spoofing algorithms and have quite different statistical distributions. More importantly, the speedy improvement of voice spoofing structures is producing the most effective attacks that make ASV structures greater vulnerable to stumble on those voice spoofing assaults. In this paper, we proposed a unique voice spoofing countermeasure which is successful to hit upon the LA attacks (i.e., artificial speech and transformed speech) and classify the spoofing structures by the usage of Long Short-Term Reminiscence (LSTM). The novel set of spectral features i.e., Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC), Gammatone Cepstral Coefficients (GTCC), and spectral centroid are capable to seize maximum alterations present in the cloned audio. The proposed system achieved remarkable accuracy of 98.93%, precision of 100%, recall of 92.32%, F1-score of 96.01%, and an Equal Error Rate (EER) of 1.30%. Our method achieved 8.5% and 7.02% smaller EER than the baseline methods such as Constant-Q Cepstral Coefficients (CQCC) using Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and Linear Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (LFCC) using GMM, respectively. We evaluated the performance of the proposed system on the standard dataset i.e., ASVspoof2019 LA. Experimental results and comparative analysis with other existing state-of-the-art methods illustrate that our method is reliable and effective to be used for the detection of voice spoofing attacks.

Abstract:
Humans share with non-human primates a number of voice perception abilities of crucial importance in social interactions, such as the ability to identify a conspecific individual from its vocalizations. Speech perception is likely to have evolved in our ancestors on the basis of pre-existing neural mechanisms involved in extracting behaviourally relevant information from conspecific vocalizations (CVs). Studying the neural bases of voice perception in primates thus not only has the potential to shed light on cerebral mechanisms that may be—unlike those involved in speech perception—directly homologous between species, but also has direct implications for our understanding of how speech appeared in humans. In this comparative review, we focus on behavioural and neurobiological evidence relative to two issues central to voice perception in human and non-human primates: (i) are CVs ‘special’, i.e. are they analysed using dedicated cerebral mechanisms not used for other sound categories, and (ii) to what extent and using what neural mechanisms do primates identify conspecific individuals from their vocalizations?

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to determine the specifics of the professionalization of singing until the middle of the XIX century in Kharkiv general secondary education institutions. The methodology. Since the phenomenon of Kharkiv vocal art was not considered in the scientific discourse, the methodological basis of the article is the method of comparative analysis, the application of which made it possible to determine the specific features of professional singing in the educational environment of the city. Determining the characteristics of professional singing (methodology of voice processing, repertoire, etc.) was carried out within the framework of applying the principle of systematicity. The results. The specificity of the understanding of singing as a sphere of professional creativity within the limits of church choral practice is traced. The principles of processing of the singing voice in Kharkiv institutions of general secondary education from the middle of the XVIII century are considered. In the context of preparing a singer for collective music making, the music teacher — bandmaster used methods of working with the singing voice, which were formed within the church choir practice and were aimed at mastering vocal technique. For Ukrainian educational institutions of the last quarter of the XVIII century we can highlight common specifics of the activity of music classes, which consisted, in addition to the music teacher, of minor students and adult already trained musicians. It is noted that since the 1840s, the aspiration to professional mastery of solo singing has become popular among Kharkiv youth, which is due to the invitation of European vocalists to become a music teachers at Kharkiv educational institutions. The scientific novelty. It was determined that by the middle of the XIX century. vocal art was cultivated in general educational institutions of Kharkiv by bandmasters, whose multi-functional specifics of activity is determined by the mutual influence of high-quality performance of organizational, pedagogical and other functions within the framework of leadership of musical collectives. In the process of preparing the singer for collective music making, the bandmaster, firstly, used the methods of setting the voice as a means of reproducing the musical text, developed and elaborated in European musical practice; secondly, ensured learning the basic standards for vocals as a level of mastery of the vocal apparatus: voice setting, cantilena singing, purity of intonation, sense of metrorhythm, etc. The performing and teaching activities of European singers since the 1840s stimulated the professionalization of vocal training in general educational institutions of Kharkiv in the context of reorientation from collective to solo singing. Thanks to the pedagogical activity of the Frenchman G. Briss, the Italians Conti, L. Gervasi, and others, the vocal repertoire begins to be dominated by opera music, the reproduction of which requires professional training of the voice. The practical significance. Determining the logic of the formation and functioning of certain signs of professional voice reproduction of a musical text within certain chronological and cultural boundaries will contribute to the improvement of the process of understanding the phenomena of, on the one hand, the musical culture of Kharkiv, and on the other hand, the vocal art of Ukraine.

Abstract:
<b><i>Background/Aims:</i></b> Previous research has shown that exposure to multiple foreign accents facilitates adaptation to an untrained novel accent. One explanation is that L2 speech varies systematically such that there are commonalities in the productions of nonnative speakers, regardless of their language background. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> A systematic acoustic comparison was conducted between 3 native English speakers and 6 nonnative accents. Voice onset time, unstressed vowel duration, and formant values of stressed and unstressed vowels were analyzed, comparing each nonnative accent to the native English talkers. A subsequent perception experiment tests what effect training on regionally accented voices has on the participant’s comprehension of nonnative accented speech to investigate the importance of within-speaker variation on attunement and generalization. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Data for each measure show substantial variability across speakers, reflecting phonetic transfer from individual L1s, as well as substantial inconsistency and variability in pronunciation, rather than commonalities in their productions. Training on native English varieties did not improve participants’ accuracy in understanding nonnative speech. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> These findings are more consistent with a hypothesis of accent attunement wherein listeners track general patterns of nonnative speech rather than relying on overlapping acoustic signals between speakers.

Abstract:
The present work aims to provide a comparative analysis of the workings of the Companhia de Jesus in Brazil and Japan in the second half of the sixteenth century, before considering the activities of Portuguese Jesuit priest Luís Fróis (1532-1597) on the Japanese mission and his central importance to the written output and publication of the mission among European and Ignatian circles. In writing on the Japanese mission, Fróis introduces into his discourse the foreign voice of the native Japanese, giving them a voice in the texts and describing their rituals, customs, and way of life. A comparative analysis with the written output of Manuel de Nóbrega, who wrote on the Brazilian mission, indicates that the symbolic aspect of the written representation of difference, which may be located in Luis Fróis, is less pronounced or even absent from Nóbrega’s work, giving rise to the appearance of the other not as difference, but as similarity, diluted in the fifteenth-century European imaginative and rhetoric frameworks. To conclude, a general reading is carried out between the work of Luis Fróis and Antoine Galland, the first European translator of One Thousand and One Nights.

It is established that the narrative on behalf of the nonhuman character causes the appearance of the features of magical realism which consist of a special binary chronotope including the characteristics of the contemporary real world and the alternative one, a distinct type of character who is either a representative of the alternative world or a mediator between two worlds. The relevance of the research lies in the need to study narrative instances in the modern prose. The novelty of the study is seen in the fact that on the basis of the modern novels, united by several features, the narrative polyphony and the ways of its creation are characterized. The author explores the stylistic features of the aforementioned novels which have not previously been the subject of thorough literary analysis. It is proved that the polyphony of narrative images expands the possibilities of the plot, style, as well as the view of a person as the subject of the image. The comparative method and the method of intertextual analysis are used in the article.

Abstract:
Post-operative pharyngeal discomfort or sore throat is unavoidable outcome of endotracheal intubation. There are some pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods for prevention of postoperative sore throat. Nebulization is better than gargle or other methods as small volume of drug required for effect, easy way of administration, better patient compliance and most importantly no risk of aspiration as seen with gargle. In our study, 88 patients of ASA grading I- Ⅲ, aged between 18-65 years undergoing general anaesthesia on elective basis were randomly divided into two groups. 44 patients received pre-operative nebulization with 1ml ketamine(50mg) with 1ml normal saline while others received nebulization with 500mg Magnesium sulfate with 1ml normal saline. General anaesthesia was given. Number of intubation attempts, duration of laryngoscopy and duration of surgery were recorded. Patients were evaluated for post-operative sore throat, hoarseness of voice and cough at 0hr, 2hr, 4hr, 12hr, and 24hr in postoperative period. Incidence of post-operative sore throat, cough and hoarseness of voice was reduced statistically significantly with ketamine nebulization when compared to magnesium sulphate nebulization (p=&#60;0.05). There were no systemic side effects with any drug. Ketamine nebulization was superior than magnesium nebulization in prevention of sore throat.

Abstract:
Evaluation is considered as a key feature in scientific communication and academicwriting. It is a crucial pragmatic tool in scientific activity among specialists and experts. The paper provides a systematic review of authorial evaluation research in the literature and aims to outline the major strands of current research. The study was carried out as interdisciplinary and intercultural analysis. It showed that different methodological approaches have been adopted to examine the issues of evaluation across disciplines, different sociocultural practices, languages, through different analytical lenses. The review is based on the publications in the scientific area in Russian and English. Based on contextual-interpretive analysis, comparative analysis of literature, analytical review of theoretical concepts, the study identified the current state and the major theoretical and methodological approaches adopted in the field of pragmatic linguistics, text linguistics, discourse analysis, linguistic axiology over the past thirty years. It revealed the terminological diversity used to describe the evaluative language in English literature. As relevant sources there were selected publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or chapters from monographs published in 1990–2022, indexed in the RSCI, Scopus, WoS, ERIH PLUS databases. The search query included the Russian terms otsenka, otsenochnost’, and the English terms evaluation, stance, appraisal, voice. The main strands in research on the evaluative use of language have been identified, namely: the stance strand, the analysis of the authorial stance, when the speaker/writer adopts a certain value position and makes it visible in the text structure by means of linguistic devices; the appraisal strand, the study of a wide range of evaluative devices that show the author’s attitude to the subject of the statement, the communicative partner; the voice strand, coordination with other voices, dialogic involvement of the author’s voice in other subjective positions.

Abstract:
Objective: To investigate the risk of mental distress during the COVID-19 pandemic in individuals of the voice-speech professions and the possibility of its impact on voice function and quality of life. Materials and Methods: The study involved 33 people of voice-speech professions who were treated at the University Clinic of Zaporizhzhia State Medical University in 2020. The presence of mental disorders was determined by questionnaires using the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS). The patients were divided into 2 groups, depending on the absence and presence of significantly expressed symptoms. A specialized phoniatric examination using functional loads (measuring the time of maximum phonation (PMF), perceptual assessment of the voice according to the GRBAS scale), videostroboscopy of the larynx were carried out. The assessment of the mental impact of voice disorders on the quality of life was carried out according to the Voice Handicap Index (VHI) questionnaire. The statistical significance of the comparative indicators and the connection of their changes were established using the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Results: It was found that among the surveyed 33 people, 22 patients (group 1) had subclinical anxiety and depression, and 11 (group 2) had no significant symptoms. Patients with subclinically severe mental disorders (n = 22) showed a significant increase in the emotional indicator by 85.37% (p≤0.01). A high positive relationship was found between subclinical levels of anxiety and depression and disturbances in the phonatory cycle of the larynx. When conducting a Spearman correlation analysis between the data of perceptual assessment of the voice according to the GRBAS system, data of video stroboscopy of the larynx, indicators of anxiety and depression, and the results of the VHI questionnaire, a positive relationship of a high degree was established between the level of anxiety and vibratory insufficiency of the vocal folds (rs=0.95; p≤0.05), negative with the Navy (rs=-0.59; p≤0.05), as well as physical (rs=0.75; p≤0.05) and emotional (rs=0.79; p≤0.05) components of average quality of life. The data obtained indicate a significant effect of subclinical disorders of the mental state on impaired voice function and the emotional component of the quality of life in persons of vocal-speech professions. Conclusions: Screening of mental health in persons of voice-speech professions together with a baseline assessment of voice function and quality of life are important steps for monitoring potential voice disorders and the formation of risk groups in order to carry out preventive and therapeutic measures for voice disorders.

Abstract:
AbstractBackground:This study calculated the comparability of two throat symptom assessment scales devised to evaluate either laryngopharyngeal reflux or globus.Setting:United Kingdom hospital out-patient departments.Method:A total of 334 subjects, with and without throat symptoms, completed the Reflux Symptom Index and/or the Glasgow and Edinburgh Throat Scale. The following were calculated for the resultant data: Cronbach's α coefficient, principal component analysis, Kaiser normalisation, varimax and oblimin rotation, and eigenvalues. Results:Analysis of data from the Reflux Symptom Index and the Glasgow and Edinburgh Throat Scale revealed clearly similar symptom domains regarding (1) coughing and blockage, and (2) globus or postnasal drip or throat-clearing, as did combined analysis of their amalgamated items. Both instruments had good overall internal consistency (α = 0.75 and 0.81, respectively). The ‘heartburn or reflux’ item in the Reflux Symptom Index mapped poorly to each underlying factor.Discussion:The most commonly used laryngopharyngeal reflux and globus assessment questionnaires appear to detect very similar symptom clusters. The management of throat disorders may previously have been over-reliant on the presenting pattern of throat symptoms. Our findings indicate a need to revisit the traditional clinical classification of throat symptoms.

Abstract:
The stage of extracting the features of the speech file is one of the most important stages of building a system for identifying a person through the use of his voice. Accordingly, the choice of the method of extracting speech features is an important process because of its subsequent negative or positive effects on the speech recognition system. In this paper research we will analyze the most popular methods of speech signal features extraction: LPC, Kmeans clustering, WPT decomposition and MLBP methods. These methods will be implemented and tested using various speech files. The amplitude and sampling frequency will be changed to see the affects of changing on the extracted features. Depending on the results of analysis some recommendations will be given.

Abstract:
Abstract With the rapid development of the scale and structure of the power grid, the power dispatching center has built a complete dispatching exchange communication network, which can meet the daily dispatching communication needs, but various problems are also emerging in the dispatching process. Aiming at the problem of high integration of physical power grid and information system, this paper proposes a voice backtracking system for power dispatching based on knowledge base, which includes knowledge base establishment, knowledge storage, knowledge question answering sorting and knowledge base front-end question answering. Firstly, the basic model of power dispatching knowledge processing is trained, and then the knowledge is extracted from the domain corpus, and finally, the knowledge question answering is realized by using the ranking model. Through the experimental comparison, it is proved that the accuracy of the method in this paper is higher than that of the method in the postprocessing by adding the MRC model in the pre-processing of knowledge extraction, and it is better than other methods in the comparative test. It provides technical support for power system voice dispatching management and provides a reference for other areas of voice management.
