Palacios, Jorge Alejandro. "TRANSNATIONAL COMPANIES AND RADICAL TRANSFORMATION PROCESSES: A study of performance in comparison to other multinational companies." NSUWorks, 2014. http://nsuworks.nova.edu/hsbe_etd/4.

Full text
Abstract:
The objective of this study was to answer the following question: Do organizations that were defined as having successfully adopted the transnational model, as per Bartlett and Ghoshal (1989), and labeled as transnational companies (TNC), perform significantly better than other multinational companies (MNC) when going through radical transformation processes? This research question was answered through a mixed method research design. The first part used a quantitative research approach and evaluated the financial performance of TNCs selected from the Bartlett and Ghoshal (1989) research, using secondary data sources from 6 TNCs and 20 MNCs. The second part used a qualitative approach based on empirical research to answer the question, ""What is happening now, 25 years later?,"" through in-depth interviews. Qualitative data was analyzed to discuss the contribution of the characteristics of TNCs to the performance of these organizations and their capacity to successfully go through radical transformation processes. The term, transnational, as a type of MNC that was introduced by Bartlett and Ghoshal (1988) and expanded by Zanfei (2000), served as the theoretical basis for this study. TNCs have differentiated characteristics, such as an integrated network structure, where complex coordination and knowledge-sharing processes are in place; resources and capabilities are distributed among different sites; and information, technology, and resources flow among interdependent units. This research contributes to bringing the discussion of TNCs back to the forefront of international business strategy research by assessing the applicability of certain elements of the ""transnational solution"" (Bartlett & Ghoshal, 1998) as an evolutionary next step for MNCs that seek long-term sustainable grow. Several directions are suggested for future research, including mapping performance variations over a longer period of time in combination with strategic content analysis; studying the consistency in share price and revenue performance among TNCs as a differentiating factor when compared to other MNCs; and understanding the increasingly predominant role of regions and regional offices in the organizational model of multinationals. Finally, this research further reinforces the suitability and additional depth brought by the application of mixed method research models to academic research in the field of international business.

Full text
Abstract:
The competition and increasing customers‘ demands makes traditional manufacturing companies consider new ways of differentiate themselves. One way of doing this is to develop product service system (PSS) solutions. PSS solutions are a total offering, where the customer purchases the use of a solution instead of a physical product. This bachelor thesis within the School of Innovation Design and Engineering at Mälardalen University aims to determine the success factor of PSS development at ICT and AM, which are two traditional Swedish manufacturing companies. To do this, the main challenges of transforming ICT and AM into PSS providers will be identified. The thesis also aims to determine if there is a need for change of performance measurements and key performance indicators (KPIs) to enable this transformation. A theoretical review is presented to help the readers in the understanding of the thesis areas. Interviews at ICT and AM were made to get a view of the situations at the companies considering PSS development. The information gathered at the interviews stated the major challenges of transforming both companies into PSS developers. With the theoretical framework and the stated challenges, an analysis was made to determine the success factors of PSS development. The identified success factors of PSS development were Senior management clarification of strategic intent, Cultural change management, Teamwork culture, Internal communication mechanisms, External communication mechanism, Customer relationship, Motivating breakthrough ideas, Project core competency, Cross-functional collaboration, Cross-functional development, Allocation of resources, Training and education, Knowledge management, Customer satisfaction data, Risk management, Product positioning, Portfolio of product opportunities, Product functional content, Knowledge of market potential, Product service processes, Product environment, Development process, Responsibilities of team members, Concurrent development, Internal task coordination, Organizational readiness for sales, Internal marketing and External marketing.Based on the theoretical framework and interviews a statement was made; it is crucial to change the performance measurement and KPIs if implementing PSS, to support collaboration between departments and contribute to the overall success for the companies.

Abstract:
As the number of global problems is proliferating, the issue of sustainability is gaining increasing recognition. One of the most imperative aspects of sustainable development is environmental sustainability. Since multinational corporations are the main drivers of global economy, maintaining the balance between economic interests and the health of natural ecosystems would have been impossible without drastic transformation of organizational business practices. The focus of this paper is oriented at the corporate greening undertaken by companies in the country with a huge potential to influence the state of the world ecology: the Russian Federation. The purpose of the study is to gain deeper understanding of the motives of Russian firms to make their operations more environmentally sustainable and of the challenges embedded in the Russian setting that hinder that process. We test the relevance of factors discussed in the greening literature on the Russian context i.e. financial and market-based incentives, stakeholders’ pressure, regulatory setting and leadership perspective and ethical considerations. Within the data collected from 8 business leaders, it was found that the main motives to go “green” were the financial one and the ethical stance of the leaders. Additionally, companies were motivated to go “green” due to forecasts on the future development of the Russian market, i.e. explaining their “green” initiatives as a part of strategic planning programs. Among the main challenges mentioned by the study participants were weak environmental regulatory apparatus and low participation of the Russian civil society. The study concludes by putting forward recommendations of how to facilitate the corporate greening process in Russia stating that legislation should be solidified, transparency of the economy should be strengthened, market-based instruments shall be further developed and educational events for raising environmental awareness should be get wider application.

Månsson-Perrone, Tristan. "Holistic Sustainability Transformation & Addressing Impacts on Global Biodiversity Integrity : Incumbent Nordic Media Companies."

Full text
Abstract:
Growing ecological challenges [1][2][3] can be addressed by the media industry through proactive engagement with holistic sustainability transformation that covers all activities within their value-chain. With at least 60% of vertebrate species already lost [1] and 40% of insect species at risk of the same [2], the time for business-as-usual has past [4][5][6][49]. In order to mitigate negative, and accelerate positive, impacts on global biodiversity integrity, media companies need to look beyond direct impacts, carbon, and segmented actions to a more holistic understanding and approach of sustainability transformation. This study focused specifically on the Nordic region (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland) and the largest incumbent companies within that region (Schibsted, MTG, Bonnier, Egmont and Sanoma) [7][8], to find what actions and pathway are necessary to protect both people and planet [10]. Through understanding the drivers of biodiversity loss, as well as the proposed sustainability transformation roadmaps from the research community, and by quantitatively analyzing how these five companies understand and prioritize sustainability, this study developed a visual Pathway Lens consisting of Seven Focus Areas (SFAs) to enable media companies to look holistically at their activities and value-chain. The SFAs need to be approached holistically, similar to the 17 SDGs (Agenda 2030) [4]. Since incumbent Nordic media companies are not currently looking at impacts on biodiversity integrity, nor focusing on a holistic approach to sustainability, the SFAs of the Pathway Lens are a tool to better understand their unique opportunity to accelerate sustainable lifestyles through their content, marketplaces, products and events, which in turn address impacts on biodiversity integrity. The media industry also shares in the collective opportunity to accelerate sustainable value-chains through prioritizing self-transcendence values, resources, responsible operations, circular business models, iterative stakeholder engagement, and external partnerships. Since the drivers of biodiversity loss are complex and interconnected [3], protecting both people and planet requires complex and interconnected solutions.

Abstract:
South African gold mining companies fail to meet employment equity targets at management level. The research aimed at establishing the level of Blacks in junior, middle and senior management positions in South African gold mining companies and to gain an understanding of the drivers and restraining factors for achieving employment equity at management level. Qualitative research was undertaken comprising focus group discussions with Black managers in the gold mining industry and with the Department of Mineral Resources. This was supplemented with in-depth interviews with gold mining HR and transformation managers/executives, labour unions and the Department of Labour. The research confirmed the current level of Blacks in management in gold mining companies, ranging between 23% and 29.6%. A conflict was identified between the Department of Mineral Resource’s “compliance” approach compared to gold companies’ “commitment” approach to employment equity transformation. Transformation Planning, Individual Development Support and Employment Equity Support Structures emerged as the key employment equity transformation themes. These were captured in the “three pillar” model to guide improved employment equity transformation in South African gold mining companies. Copyright

Abstract:
Background: Digitalization and sustainability are two of the most impactful topics concerning businesses today which pose a nascent research field. Sustainability presents businesses with massive challenges in order to find new business models, improve processes, utilize resources more efficiently, and change their interactions with suppliers and other stakeholders. Simultaneously, digitalization is often characterized by its disruptive nature and the ways in which it creates new avenues for creating and capturing value and changes relationships. Furthermore, there are few industries in need of new ways to become more sustainable than the clothing industry.   Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the facilitating opportunities that digitalization presents for the clothing industry to achieve sustainability goals. The findings of this study are expected to contribute beneficial knowledge and concrete examples that managers, decision-makers, and IT personnel can use to better understand the existing prospects that digital transformation poses for their various sustainability goals.    Method: A qualitative design has been employed to perform this study. Five semi-structured interviews were conducted with various individuals representing Swedish clothing brands. An inductive approach was utilized alongside a grounded theory design.   Conclusion: The results show that there are many opportunities for digitalization to facilitate clothing companies’ sustainability goals. This comes in the form of enabling effects with their downstream suppliers through: improved environmental traceability, shifting supplier relationships, and improving working condition transparency. Moreover, upstream effects are observed in adaptions to new business models and relationship improvements with consumers. Finally, within the firm, improving processes and shifting capability requirements are changing the way that firms operate, and the knowledge sets needed to function. These findings were developed into a framework presented on page 40.

Abstract:
With the change in behaviour from the customers’ side, due to the increased use of digital environments, marketers have seen a value in customer related data. In order to fully benefit from the data, many marketing efforts have been brought back in to the own organisation. This study aims to further explain how the marketing department have been affected by the changing in-house trend and give practical suggestions on how to cope with the challenges. Previous research in the area has been reviewed and a summary has been conducted. The data collection consisted of semi-structured interviews with marketers from various industries. Respondents with insightful information in the modern marketing department was interviewed and the findings later analysed. The analysis was conducted with support of categories established from the findings in the literature review. The study resulted in a confirmation of the in-house trend in modern marketing departments and the challenges facing them. The findings of the study have contributed to previous literature by confirming and adding insights in a field where most research is made by trade organisations. An independent academic study in the field could be seen as an important addition to the existing literature in the area. For marketers in the area, a greater understanding of the problem will help make the marketing efforts more effective. Key findings include the importance in understanding the customer and what is required in order to make best use of the in-house marketing department.

Abstract:
The increasing development in digital transformation in the last decade has affected retail companies in the outdoor industry. The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic is further accelerating the outdoor industry ́s mindset towards digital solutions. New innovations such as online training, video content and digital educational platforms provide retail outdoor companies with opportunities to move from physical product & brand education routines to digitally based solutions. The purpose of this study is therefore to explore how the last years developments in digital transformation have impacted retail outdoor companies' way of working with product & brand education for their store staff, and if the Covid-19 pandemic has had any effects upon this. In addition, the research aims to find out what attitude retail outdoor companies have towards digital educational platforms, as a new innovation tool. In order to adequately explore the aim of this study a mixed research method was undertaken, combining both qualitative and quantitative analysis. The data was collected using an online questionnaire with respondents working for retail outdoor companies across Europe.  The outcomes of this study can be used for organizations that want to explore the opportunities of digitalizing their way of working with product & brand education. The findings suggest that digital product & brand education solutions have the potential to act more as a great complement to traditional physical education, than to actually replace it. Furthermore, the effects that the Covid-19 pandemic have had upon this has been contradictory and far from united. In addition, the findings indicate that retail outdoor companies have a positive attitude towards digital educational platforms, which suggest that there might be an increasing interest for digital educational platforms in the upcoming future.

Mjali, Chuma. "An assessment into the state of transformation disclosure for the top 50 companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange." Master's thesis, Faculty of Commerce, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/30793.

Full text
Abstract:
The main purpose of this study is to examine the current extent of transformation disclosure in the integrated reports/annual reports of the top 50 listed South African companies on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE) for the 2018 year. A longitudinal assessment to discern the developments in transformation disclosure trends over a 5-year period (2014 -2018) was also undertaken. Transformation for purposes of this study refers to transformation of the workplace “to be truly non-racial and non-sexist within companies”. Transformation is very topical in South Africa bearing in mind the historical injustices of the past and thus the need for redress. Disclosure relating to transformation is argued to be a pivotal contributing instrument that could empower stakeholders towards holding companies accountable. The specified transformation disclosure is required by the Employment Equity Act and is considered to be mandatory. The transformation disclosure reported by companies within their annual reports/integrated reports was thus critically scrutinised by application of a scoring technique relating to a closed list of 15 variables selected. Results showed that disclosure relating to the transformation variables was low overall despite there being a statutory requirement, with the highest scores recorded around the corporate social responsibility variable. The stunted level of transformation disclosure has wider implications for users of these reports and their ability to be afforded the opportunity to facilitate action and thus exercise accountability in relation to these companies.

Abstract:

Tacit knowledge refers to the knowledge that is located inside individuals; it is not expressed or written like explicit knowledge. Inherently, tacit knowledge is often limited solely to one person and consequently individually based. Project based companies need to acknowledge the importance of transforming tacit knowledge into explicit in order to preserve the knowledge inside the organisation. If the knowledge is not transformed, there is a great risk of losing the knowledge when a key individual leaves the organization.

One way of transforming the tacit knowledge is through Nonaka’s and Takeuchi’s knowledge spiral. But the knowledge spiral ignores some wider issues that should be included in order to achieve a transformation. This thesis shows that the knowledge spiral is a good base but the organisation has to provide a supporting context and an open culture to create an environment where a transformation can be accomplished. This thesis stresses that a transformation is not always the ultimate choice since it is not, at all times, possible. In some cases, distribution of tacit knowledge throughout the organisation is a better alternative to preserve the knowledge. A distribution can, for instance, be done through learning by doing. The thesis demonstrates that an organisation has to choose either a transformation or a distribution. The choice depends on which alternative that brings the most improvements, advantages and effectiveness for the organisation. The situation will then, as a consequence, decide whether the knowledge is to be transformed or not.

Abstract:
Global goals to reduce the greenhouse gases and CO2 emission has challenged many industries to innovate new technologies or shift to different products. Electrification of transportation has been considered a major improvement in this respect, which affects the entire transportation value chain including the manufacturing of heavy-duty vehicles. The importance and degree of changes that shifting toward electrification imposes on the truck manufactures value chain is subject to the study with a focus on the production stage of the value chain. The research also creates some insights to understand the sources of competitive advantage in the production of BEV.    Based on the authors’ knowledge and investigations, the contribution of this study in the research field is that the concept of the value chain together with Delphi method is implemented for the first time in the BEV industry to identify the impact of technology transformation on the production activities and competitive advantage. Furthermore, it contributes to highlight the unclarities in the BEV value chain activities that need more researches in order to create a more clear technology transformation path for the heavy-duty vehicle industry. The research findings imply that electrification has a big impact on the production value chain activities. The number of employees will be reduced that in turn creates a source of cost advantage for the company by reducing the cost per vehicle production. The assembly time is also shorter that makes it easier to respond to the market dynamic faster and reduces the cost of products storage. However, the risk for production stops is considered higher in BEV compare to ICE vehicles. Another finding is that the outsourcing of the components has a negative effect on the competitive advantage of the company and production efficiency. There is no difference between the impact of production activities on the company value chain in both BEV and ICE manufacturing. There is also a consensus on the more opportunities in BEV manufacturing to increase the production efficiency and lowering the cost.

The main theme of the diploma thesis is the division of companies. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical and a practical one. The theoretical part deals with the legal, accounting and tax framework of the division. The chapter on legislation primarily tackles its development within the European Union and the Czech Republic. The part on accounting concentrates on the determination of the accounting period, valuation of assets and deferred tax regarding the division, while the section on tax legislation adopts the perspective of the Tax Code, corporate income tax and value added tax. The main part of the thesis is practical and offers a comparative analysis of divisions implemented in 2013. First of all, the method of obtaining the data for analysis is described, and then the most part of the chapter deals with the presentation of the result of the analysis.

Abstract:
Understanding the class position of family owned small scale agricultural production units, which constitute a common feature of the rural context in the later capitalized countries, have been one of the major discussion points in the Marxist literature. The continual existence of such a form of production organization with significant non-capitalist features under the enlarging capitalist organization of production despite the initial assumptions of Marxist analysis that it was a transitory form which will soon differentiate between proletariat and bourgeoisie have prompted a number if attempts at explaining the survival of this category. These debates have strongly influenced the analyses in the field of rural sociology from 1960s onwards, providing the conceptual tools for sociological analysis of rural relations of production. This thesis engages in an attempt of re-appraising the theoretical debates within Marxist analysis of petty agricultural production organization together with considering the recent transnational reorganization of agricultural production. The neo-liberal retraction of state as a regulating force and loosening the protectionist policies has lead to the rise of the power of Trans-National Corporations (TNCs) in the field of agriculture in the past couple of decades. Contractual farming is defined as a major form of direct relationship TNCs establish with petty agricultural producers to exercise their determining power over the organization of agricultural production. Together with a case study of contractual farming, the thesis discusses how could we define the class positions of this segment and whether their relationship with TNCs have a significant affect over our definitions.

Baldy, Ngayo Christine. "Enabling Conditions for Organizational Change Production by Cross Functional Teams in Multinational Corporations : An In-Depth Multi Cases Study of the Marketing, Sales and Distribution Transformation in Pharmaceutical Multinational Companies." Phd thesis, HEC, 2011. http://pastel.archives-ouvertes.fr/pastel-00708802.

Abstract:
In today's ever-changing, competitive business environment, cross-functional teams are an increasingly popular mechanism to implement major business transformations within multinationals. Yet empirical data (Kotter, 1995; Beer, Eisenstat and Spector, 1990; Beer, 2000; Stvetena and Damian, 2006) support for the prevailing view that such teams, unless they are well managed, lead to failure. By drawing on an in depth comparative study of one Pilot Team and four teams dedicated to marketing, sales and distribution transformation in two pharmaceutical companies, we examine under which internal conditions cross-functional teams dedicated to organizational change enable or hinder organizational change within multinational corporations. The findings suggest that they succeed best through high level coupling activities with the remainder of the organization during the early and the later phases of a project, when practicing shared leadership and when organized as a semi-structure. This study contributes to the literature on organizational change in transcending the paradoxical relationships between stability and change, to the literature on the practice-based approach in making more explicit the relationships between practices and organizations and provides implications for managers involved in major business transformations in multinational corporations.

The present study seeks to understand the elements necessary for the development of new perspectives of leadership in industries, with a focus on prosperity. In view of the changes in global consciousness, new working relationships have emerged and with this the needs of people have changed, leading to a change in the way of leadership and management in organizations. With this, it is understood as new leadership perspectives the focus on the collective / common good, long-term thinking, with the objective of producing sustainable results for the stakeholders. These leaders are drivers of change and transformation and have the ability to connect different paradigms. A company that adopts new leadership perspectives presents a culture that values innovation, creativity and the unleashing of the human spirit, in the face of prosperity. The concept of prosperity is understood as the search for the flowering of human consciousness, linked to a broad view of life. In industries, by production lines installed there that are focused on productivity, it becomes a challenge to awaken to new ways of leading people focused. As support in companies, the area of people management plays a relevant role in the definition of culture and organizational climate. From this, a qualitative research was carried out based on a semi-structured interview script, involving 22 participants from two different perspectives: people who work in industries, including HR leaders, area leaders and subordinates; and people who work in consultancies with processes of leadership development in companies. The results provide a vision for the understanding of the role of leadership and future perspectives of change or transformation in industries. They also point out some ways to the area of people management to support the insertion of new ways of leading in organizations. Finally, the necessary elements are presented to develop new leadership perspectives focused on prosperity in industries. Ten elements have been mapped that can be developed in companies aiming at the transformation of people and / or work environment, with the purpose of approaching the new ways of looking at the individual and the collective in the business of the accomplished practice.

Abstract:
This thesis explores whether dialogue between a company and a non-profit organisation (NPO) can influence a company’s way of working towards being more conflict sensitive. As a case-study I analysed the dialogue between the French oil and gas company, Total S.A. (Total), and the US based NPO, CDA Collaborative Learning Projects (CDA) relating to the company’s operations in Myanmar/Burma. The objectives of the research were to ascertain if dialogue had a positive impact, and if so, what it was about the dialogue that enabled change, what was the process of change that could be observed and how embedded such change was. Drawing on post-modernism, systems thinking and complexity thinking, I have built on organisational change, conflict transformation, dialogue and cross-sector partnership literature to examine the role of dialogue as an enabler of change. While highlighting parallels in the discourses, I analyse the process and degree of change within the company through two conflict transformation models, one by Lederach (1997) and the other by Lederach, Neufeld and Culbertson (2007), which I feel best synthesise these parallels. The research is a longitudinal case-study (2002-2012), based on semi-structured interviews and document analysis. The study adds to the limited academic research on conflict sensitivity in general, and on the implications for a company’s way of working in particular. Although I find that within the business sector, the notion of conflict sensitivity is assumed in the wider concept of corporate social responsibility, noteworthy is the relevance of dialogue in change processes. Dialogue is an essential enabler as it sparks transformational levers also recognised in the literature reviewed. However it is not sufficient. The research illustrates that the dialogue between CDA and Total has played a critical role in facilitating a shift in the company’s way of working, with the contribution of other influences at play. As such, I draw attention to the complexity of the change process and discuss the current nature of the drivers of change within Total.

Full text
Abstract:
The objective of the study was to explore the relationship between companies that are digitally mature and the leadership style of their C-level executives, with a specific focus on transformational leadership. Success in the digital era requires not only an investment in digital capabilities, but also a change in organisational culture that only strong leadership can inspire. Transformational leadership instils major changes at the organisational level, through changing attitudes and assumptions at the individual level and creating collective engagement. Moreover, this leadership approach facilitates organisational innovation and learning, and generates a shared, inspiring vision for the future The purpose this study was two-fold: Firstly, to explore the relationship between transformational leadership and having higher digital maturity levels - becoming a digital master. Secondly, to determine whether one or more of the transformational leadership factors has an effect on the digital maturity of South African companies (represented by four basic transformational leadership behaviours, or "I's". An online survey, specifically addressing the research question, was sent to C-level executives from South African companies that fit the population criteria, using moderator regression models to determine if transformational leadership and its associated behaviours have an effect on a company's digital maturity. For the sample population, it was determined that two of the transformational leadership behaviours had a positive effect on digital maturity, namely idealised influence and individualised consideration and that one transformational leadership behaviour, inspirational motivation, has a negative effect on digital maturity.

Al-Obaidi, Taha S. Ameen. "A transformational organisational framework for improving Iraqi quasi-governmental construction companies' performance." Thesis, University of Salford, 2018. http://usir.salford.ac.uk/47161/.

Full text
Abstract:
Rising globalisation, the liberalisation of international trade and rapid technological development over the last two decades have subjected the business environment to rapid, dynamic change. In the face of such change, seminal researchers and business leaders have reached a conclusion that Business Process (BP) is the core of an organisation. Thus, in order to survive, grow, and stay ahead of the competition in today’s turbulent environment, organisations need to mainly focus on improving their business processes. Similarly, the Iraqi business environment, after the 2003 conflict, have been subject to profound change influenced by the radical changes to Iraq’s political and economic systems. These changes have directly impacted on Iraqi Quasi-Governmental Construction Companies (IQGCCs) where, after decades of domination over most publicly funded construction contracts, these companies face now fierce competition from in excess of 3,500 local and international private firms. As a result, IQGCCs have subsequently struggled to both win contracts and generate profit and the majority have incurred substantial financial losses, becoming unsustainable burdens on the national budget. Although the Iraqi government has attempted to reform the performance of these companies, most of these efforts have ended in their recapitalisation, rather than the identification and resolution of their problems. Accordingly, through employing Business Process Management (BPM) as a comprehensive and widely used approach to increase BP’s principles in an organisation, this research aims to synthesise a transformational organisational framework to address the challenges emanating from current practice within IQGCCs with the view to determining a step change improvement that could ultimately enhance their bottom line performances. To achieve this aim, an exploratory study, which comprised three companies selected from IQGCCs as case studies, was conducted with the aim of mapping and examining the current operational processes employed by these companies and pinpointing the main challenges existing in these processes. Thereafter, a series of semi-structured interviews were carried out with ten experts selected from various management levels of three IQGCCs in order to test the applicability of the theoretical framework developed from the literature to address the challenges inherent in the IQGCCs’ processes. Based on the experts’ responses, the theoretical framework was refined and then further validated through four more semi-structured interviews to produce the final recommended transformational organisational framework for IQGCCs. The study empirically uncovered a number of challenges and impediments inherent in the IQGCCs’ current practices that need to be overcome if their performances are to be enhanced. Many reasons were also identified and grouped together as underpinning causes of the current challenges and barriers to efficiency. The study also showed that the IQGCCs could solve most of the identified challenges through shifting their focus from a traditional functional orientation to a business process orientation. To facilitate this, the study produced a transformational organisational framework that acts as a roadmap to streamline and continuously improve Iraqi QGCCs’ core business processes and, ultimately, institute the business process’ principles within these companies.

Abstract  Linnaeus University – Campus Kalmar School of Business and Economics Leadership and Management in International Contexts (60 credits)  Title: Transformational Leadership in the Chinese Culture – A Quantitative Study on the Impact of Transformational Leadership on Chinese Internet Companies’ Performance.  This research aims to study how transformational leadership affects organizational performance and the mediation effect of employee voice behaviour. A quantitative research method and a deductive research approach were used for this research study, where theoretical concepts were developed. Several hypotheses were derived as means to test the existing theories regarding research variables. The data in this research was collected through a 384 completed online survey questionnaire from employees of the top ten listed Chinese internet companies. Various statistical techniques, including Pearson correlation analysis, linear regression analysis, and mediation effect testing, were implemented to provide evidence for hypothesis testing. The statistical analysis results indicate that a particular dimension of transformational leadership positively impacts Chinese internet companies’ performance, and employee voice behaviour has a partial mediation effect in this relationship.

Full text
Abstract:
Leadership—it is a difficult phenomenon to precisely define, and perhaps even more importantly, it is difficult to identify the effects thereof. In business, it is believed that leadership is important, that it really matters. There have been countless books written on the subject. There have been numerous researchers who have tried to debunk all the myths and rumors, using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research strategies. Over time, leadership theories have changed. Theories that include trait- centered leadership, situational leadership, servant leadership, democratic leadership, Laissez-faire leadership, Theory X, Theory Y, and others have been well documented and researched. Transactional leadership and transformational leadership theories are fairly new concepts on the leadership landscape. Both have provided revolutionary ideas into the way leadership is viewed today. Industrial distribution is an integral component to the manufacturing industry. For many companies, in many different market segments, industrial distributors provide a channel to the market for their products. Therefore, the health and success of industrial distribution companies are critical for the overall strength of the U.S. economy. There has been little research conducted on the effect of leadership at industrial distributors, specifically at the branch level. So, does leadership really matter? This research attempts to quantitatively examine the benefits, or effects of, transformational and transactional leadership style on the success of industrial distributors, at the branch level. Using the Multilevel Leadership Questionnarie (MLQ), leadership data were gathered from both leaders and followers at the branch level of industrial distributors engaged in the sale of construction-related goods and services. Moderated multiple regression techniques were used to analyze the data collected on independent variables (transformational and transactional leadership), moderating variables (age, duration, education, and experience), and the dependent variables (sales and margin). The results of the analysis indicate that transformational leadership style has a statistically significant, positive relationship to year-over-year sales and margin.

Abstract:
The declines in oil and gas prices in 2014 by 50% or more led governments in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to decrease healthcare budgets correspondingly by more than 30%. The purpose of this multiple case study was to explore the marketing strategies that managers of international pharmaceutical companies have successfully implemented in the MENA region to ensure profitability after the 2014 decreases in the healthcare budgets, which followed the decline in oil and gas prices. The study involved data collection through semistructured interviews of 6 middle and executive managers working in 2 international pharmaceutical companies located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The cultural intelligence and strategic flexibility theories constituted the conceptual framework for this study and exploration of challenges associated with implementing marketing strategies for international pharmaceutical companies in the MENA region. Participants had a minimum of 5 years of experience in planning and implementing marketing strategies in the MENA region. The findings from the thematic data analysis led to the identification of major marketing strategies, which have helped to maintain business sustainability of pharmaceutical companies, despite difficulties with the reduction in healthcare budgets in the MENA region. The important themes emerging from this study included: (a) product launch strategy and operating model, (b) transformation of leaders by vision and guidance, (c) recognition of culture and diversity, and (d) the importance of training and learning agility. The results of the study may contribute to positive social change because pharmaceutical and healthcare knowledge benefits human health and may serve to influence positive job creation and enrichment of the economies of the region.

Edwards, Gareth P. "An investigation of transformational, transactional and laissez-faire leadership at different hierarchical levels in UK manufacturing companies using multiple ratings." Thesis, University of Strathclyde, 2005. http://oleg.lib.strath.ac.uk:80/R/?func=dbin-jump-full&object_id=21600.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis reports an empirical investigation into the use and effectiveness of transformational, transactional and laissez-faire leadership across the whole management hierarchy (five levels) and several different time spans. In addition to effectiveness, measures of extra effort and satisfaction were employed. A 360- degree version of the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire based on Bass and Avolio's 'Full Range Leadership' model was completed by 432 managers, and multiple responses were obtained for 367 managers from 38 organizations in the UK manufacturing sector. The results of the research suggest a distinct pattern in the use and effectiveness of transformational, transactional and laissez-faire leadership at different hierarchical levels and across different time spans. There is evidence to doubt the generalisability of the Full Range Leadership model and for differences in leadership behaviour across hierarchical levels in organizations. The thesis concludes that hierarchical level and the source of rating (self, peer, superior and subordinate) have strong moderating effects and that time span has a small moderating effect on transformational, transactional and laissez-faire leadership. Organizational size was found to have no moderating effect. The findings also suggest a new model of leadership Incorporating the elements of the Full Range Leadership model, comprising: active constructive leadership (attributed charisma, idealised influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, individualised consideration, and contingent reward), active management-by-exception, and passive-avoidant leadership (passive management-by-exception and laissez-faire leadership). Limitations of the research, such as the focus on only one sector (manufacturing) in one country and apparent self-rating bias, are discussed. Nevertheless, this research is believed to provide a more comprehensive model of leadership than previous research relating to the Full Range model by using five hierarchical levels and data from multiple responses, in most cases 360-degree assessment. The implications for leadership and management theory and for leadership development are discussed, and recommendations for further research are made.

Thesis, Umeå universitet, Handelshögskolan vid Umeå universitet, 2011. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-46096.

Abstract:
Thee market-driving approach has been cited by several business academic scholars (Jaworski,Kohli, & Sahay, 2000; Carpenter, Glazer, & Nakamoto, 2000; Kumar, Scheer, & Kotler, 2000;Harris & Cai, 2002; Hills & Sarin, 2003; Carrillat, Jaramillo, & Locander, 2004; Schindehutte,Morris, & Kocak, 2008) as a significant approach of the market-oriented company that canprovide a sustainable competitive advantage. Moreover, the organizational cultures developed bythe transformational leadership behavioral style are likely to play an important role in themarket-driving approach (Carrillat et al., 2004). Hence, it is necessary for the market-orientedfirm to understand the interrelationship between these two elements in order to develop asuccessful competitive position in the long-run.The main purpose of our thesis is to create a framework for understanding the interrelationshipbetween the market-driving approach and the organizational culture, which is applicable for amarket-oriented firm. To achieve this objective, we have to identify the types of organizationalcultures and leadership behavioral styles, which are occupied in a market-driving company.Furthermore, we also have to define the relationship between the market-driving approach andthe organizational culture; whether the market-driving approach or the organizational culture isthe origin of effect to the other. To answer our research question, a qualitative approach was applied by conducting semistructuredinterviews with two case studies, which are well-known market-driving companiesoperating in Thailand, IKEA Thailand and Land and Houses. We scope the area of study only inThailand according to our ability of understanding, analyze and access the sources of informationregarding Thai companies. From the research findings, both IKEA and Land and Houses share a similarity of theirorganizational culture, adhocracy and market cultures, and their leadership behavioral style, transformational leaderships. The relationship between the organizational culture and the marketdrivingapproach within these two companies reveals only one direction; their organizationalcultures led by transformational leadership stimulate their market-driving approach. Moreover,we also found that transformational leadership itself can directly generate the market-drivingapproach.Hence, this result provided us with a new conceptual framework that indicates thetransformational leadership as the main factor, which directly and indirectly develops themarket-driving approach.

Abstract:
Background: It’s considered by both researchers and leaders that changes in organizations have a significant impact in the organizations well being. The organizations constantly need to adapt to the developing context. This study intends to study transformational leadership in the context of incremental change because these seem to be linked to each other.   Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore how leaders using the transformational leaderships can affect an incremental change in both municipal- and private companies in order to identify possible similarities and differences between the two types of companies.   Problem statement: How can the transformational leadership influence incremental changes in municipal- and private companies?   Theory: The theory in this study deals with transformational leadership in incremental changes in municipal and private companies. The transformational leadership consists of four parts, intellectual stimulation, inspirational motivation, individual consideration and idealized influence. The incremental change is a change where an organization handles one problem and one objective at a time, ie. a step-by-step change that is ongoing concerning the organization's operational processes.   Method: This is a case study where we have conducted a qualitative and deductive approach. We have collected the empirical data by interviewing our respondents.   Empirical: The respondents are five leaders on four different companies. There are two respondents from the same company. The companies are two municipal- and two private companies. We have interviewed two managing directors, one manager of administration, one manager of a field and one manager of production and logistics. They all have a leading position in the organization and they all have experience of an incremental change.   Analysis and conclusions: Primarily we concluded that the leaders in the municipal companies constantly must adapt their transformational leadership in the incremental change according to the specific municipality objectives, which does not always mean the best for the company itself. The leaders in the private companies have more independence in their transformational leadership and can focus on the company's best when it comes to leading incremental changes. The similarities and differences are equal between for example two leaders in municipal companies as two leaders in private companies. The company types does not have as much impact on the leaders transformational leadership as the impact that the personality has.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates a possible correlation between the organizational communication policies and the practices of corporate governance in the entrepreneurial sphere, using as a backdrop the profound transformations in the economic, political, social and cultural ambit from the second half of mid twentieth century onwards. With an extensive bibliographical review as the main methodological tool and a field research with 22 firms (which represent 50% of the market value of all the public companies in Brazil), I sought to build a trajectory of organizational communication and its theoretical corpus as well as corporate governance in an attempt to observe the existing intersecting links between them, both from a theoretical point of view and from the perspective of statistical tests. The study defends the thesis that more transparent, collaborative and integrated communication processes, besides being heterogeneous in addressing the different demands of diverse stakeholders present in the organization, are determinants in the construction of good practices in corporate governance. In other words, the positive intersection identified here may contribute decisively to a better empowerment and adaptation of the companies to the profound transformations present in the competitive scenario of contemporary capitalism.

The main contribution of this study is to find out the reasons for the change in the control of Taiwan's listed companies in the past two decades. This study defines that the control right is transformed when a company's final controller loses control of the board, or the number of the control power is decentralized, or the control right of the controller change more than 10% and becomes less than 20% after one year, or the board member change more than 10% and becomes less than 50% after a one year change. The study found out that the company's stock performance, company size and leverage highly influences the decision of the final controller. In addition, whether a member in the company has inherited in the past, whether the chairman is internalized or the final controller's equity deviation is also an important decision-making factor. The control right of Taiwanese companies is mainly concentrated in the hands of family members. The sample of this study was taken from the Taiwan listed companies from 1996 to the end of 2017. With reference to the measurement method of the final controlling shareholders of La Porta et al. (1999), it was finally determined that 406 listed companies were selected. The empirical results show that companies with small scale, large financial leverage, high stock returns in the past, no inherits in the past, no internalization of the chairman, and low equity deviations tend to lose corporate control right. Not only these results are in lines with the past researches on the reasons why do firms become widely held, the following newly designed variables — whether having inherits of family member, the internalization of the chairman, and the degree of deviation of the company's equity, are the contributions of this research, which shows that the Corporate decision-making factors has a major bearing on the company's long-term and ongoing plans.

Rapidly changing world situation, the growing surge of global competitive pressures, and the rapid rise of mainland China cost advantage, coupled with the impact of the financial downturn, Taiwan's enterprises are facing unprecedented challenges and crisis management, have carried out restructuring. The objective of this study adopted case study, the students in charge of the enterprise as the object, to explore business transformation process, from the face of corporate crisis, restructuring strategy, market assessment, to trade as the main body of the enterprise, analyze the venture so far, limited resources, the development of should be close to market trends and the development of trade, process engineering, technology strategy, trade is the sale, possession, or he is someone else's brand agency, to sell a repeat. The amount sold almost started manufacturing. Manufacturing asked the workers. Wait until the manufacturing capacity is almost, again engage in technology. Established sales channels, and to find the right close to the market demand for products that can meet the transformation strategy WeTop technology. Short-term goals: trade stage, US sales of the original RGF products, build brand value and tuning technology market pricing strategy (selling cheap greed, fear Guimai price). Medium-term objectives: Factory stage, signed a cooperation key technologies and components, will turn into a brand image Technical indicators development ODM and customized commodity market in Southeast Asia, to expand the applicability of the market and customers Hezhong style development mechanism. Long-term goal: technological stage, Chinese Academy of Sciences signed a licensing and development of related technologies and ITRI hybrid patents, to reduce the original check. Transition begin consideration of the original corporate structure and property, general corporate restructuring when the crisis hit, in the strategic planning, to avoid part of the conflict, so that enterprises nature (trade patterns) and organizational structure (flat job process) adjustment not made adaptation of market assessment and product choice to the chain in response to new patterns of strategic alliances, and play the best of. So that resources are concentrated in marketing the above, in order to establish new markets and new technology products as the main direction of the transformation, economical and competitive, but also as the core of a successful transition plan; SMEs financially disadvantaged genus, but since businesses need to grow, then it is necessary to respond to global change in the situation, but also to avoid growing too fast to bring the crisis to take a strategic alliance is an important way. Rely on external resources to do "vertical / horizontal co-operation policy mode"use networking to build the allocation of funds. Assess adequate provision of information in the transition process, understand the deficiencies associated with each segment acquired reinforcement, the use of the agent distribution model, with patented technology cross-development, which allows the partner strategic alliances, sharing funds to support business transformation and development and models developed integration planning, has now entered the third stage, and the planning of new enterprises and the whole, face greater market mechanisms.

As the information age is approaching us, the electronic products dominate the tendency of the global industrial development gradually, and the semiconductor plays the most important role. In the division of labor model of global semiconductor, it makes Hsin-chu Science-based Industrial Park become the biggest OEM place of wafer in the world. In addition, we also found that the semiconductor equipment industry supply and dominate the development of the semiconductor manufacturing industry from technological levels by Japan’s and American’s industrial development experiences. Although Taiwan’s semiconductor processing technology is near the world level, we still depended on the equipment overseas. According to the scientific literatures of the study, we have found lots of developmental trajectories and inspirations related to international semiconductor equipment industry. From the business transformation viewpoint, this study will provide two analytic directions. One point of view is from the strategy entering new business, the other point of view is from technological types of products. Then we try to define four types that Taiwan machine companies entering semiconductor equipment industry. These four types are “Technological Strategy”, “Active Development”, “Technological Supply”, and “Coping & Assembling”. We use this analytical framework to examine six case studies of the representative machine companies in Taiwan. The process of business transformation would be constrained by environment factors. According to the information presented in the processes of transformation, I conclude those into three dimensions and try to find some related assumptive discoveries. This study proved that there are individual basic conditions and applicable environments for each type of Taiwan machine companies entering semiconductor equipment industry. According to some related discoveries involve in Taiwan semiconductor equipment development, we could find certain characteristics. The facts discovered in this investigation could offer valuable information for academic reports, and also could provide references for enterprises to reform.
