Abstract:

We review the current observational status of Sgr A∗, the compact nonthermal radio source at the galactic center. Sgr A∗ is a unique radio source at a unique location of the Galaxy. It is unlike any compact radio source associated with known stellar objects, but it is similar to extragalactic nuclear compact radio sources. The positional offset between Sgr A∗ and IRS16 places little constraint on the nature of the underlying energy source, since IRS16 need not be the core of the central star cluster. Sgr A∗ is still the best candidate for marking the location of a massive collapsed object.

Abstract:

This article revisits social sustainability of compact urban neighbourhoods based on first-hand evidence from four case studies in London and Berlin. It suggests a working definition for socially sustainable neighbourhoods, develops a tripartite integrative evaluation framework for measuring social sustainability of urban neighbourhoods, and applies it to four case studies in London and Berlin. Findings of this research are in line with some dominant arguments made in favour of social sustainability of compact urban form, but challenges some others. Research findings suggest that compact urban form is not an urban orthodoxy, but has multiple and contrasting social meanings and perceptions in different contexts and places.

Abstract:

We present the results of a detailed BVRI and Hα study of the isolated nearby blue compact dwarf (BCD) galaxy NGC 6789. Judging from the literature the observed galaxy has not yet been resolved into stars up to now. On CCD frames obtained with 6m BTA telescope and 2.5m Nordic telescope the galaxy is well resolved. Its colour-magnitude diagram confirms the two component (core-halo) galaxy morphology, which consists of two stellar populations distinct in structure and colour: an inner high surface-brightness young population within 150 pc from the center of the galaxy, and a relatively low surface-brightness intermediate-age population extending out to at least 600 pc. The distance to the galaxy, estimated from the tip of the red giant branch (TRGB) is 2.1 Mpc which places NGC 6789 close to the Local Group. From the mean colour of the RGB, the mean metal abundance of the halo population is estimated as [Fe/H] ≃ −1 dex.

Abstract:

This article offers a case study of the Compact Disc Database and ID3 tags, two instrumental information technologies for digital music on computers. Using an interpretive analysis of the technical and cultural features of the Compact Disc Database and ID3 tags as well as press releases and journalistic accounts detailing the rise of these services, this article places digital metadata within the broader history of recorded music specifically and digital objects more generally. Started as hobby projects, the Compact Disc Database and ID3 tags have evolved into central components of the digital music ecosystem. As keystone technologies, they contributed to the emergence of a digital music commodity. Since both technologies derive much of their value from user contributions, this article also contributes to current theorization on the role of users in the production of digital commodities.

Abstract:

<p>Public spaces should be places that support an intense civic life. They have been so throughout history, even if in each culture and historical period they have taken very different shapes and followed different design principles. Nevertheless, during the XX century, the Modern Movement faced some difficulties in dealing with public spaces. Too many times the zoning approach opposed the complexity, mix of uses and intensity required by lively public spaces, where social encounters and knowledge exchanges are made possible. In the XXI century, public spaces regained a major role in city projects and urban strategies all over the world. Their appearance was enriched by new forms. Besides the traditional squares, parks and promenades of compact cities, new metropolitan open spaces and collective places related to transport network nodes emerged. This paper focuses on the urban design of such contemporary collective places. Based on an overview of the historical evolution of public spaces, we identify some design principles (from the overlap of scales to acupuncture strategies, through to the complexity of relations between urban architectures) necessary to ensure that metropolitan nodes emerge as places full of urbanity rather than as deserted non places.</p>

The complex radio source Sgr A is embedded in a region near our Galactic Center. The dynamical center of our Galaxy is considered to be Sgr A*, the compact non-thermal radio source. Dynamical mass within ~0.1 pc from Sgr A* has been estimated to be ~ 3×106 M⊙. This places Sgr A* to be a candidate of a massive blackhole (Eckart and Genzel, 1997 and reference therein).

In this article we establish the arithmetic purity of strong approximation for certain semisimple simply connected linear algebraic groups and their homogeneous spaces over a number field $k$. For instance, for any such group $G$ and for any open subset $U$ of $G$ with ${\mathrm {codim}}(G\setminus U, G)\geqslant 2$, we prove that (i) if $G$ is $k$-simple and $k$-isotropic, then $U$ satisfies strong approximation off any finite number of places; and (ii) if $G$ is the spin group of a non-degenerate quadratic form which is not compact over archimedean places, then $U$ satisfies strong approximation off all archimedean places. As a consequence, we prove that the same property holds for affine quadratic hypersurfaces. Our approach combines a fibration method with subgroup actions developed for induction on the codimension of $G\setminus U$, and an affine linear sieve which allows us to produce integral points with almost-prime polynomial values.

Abstract:

The concept of a compact sound source driven by piezoactuators is experimentally investigated, and analytical design tools are developed. The sound source, consisting of a thin, cylindrically curved aluminum panel and a pair of collocated, surface-bonded piezoceramic actuators, was developed with the objective of employing it as a secondary sound source in the active control of turbofan bladeinteraction inlet noise. The sound source was fitted in an experimental duct representative of an aircraft engine inlet, and the interior and exterior sound pressure levels generated by the source were measured. The effects of excitation voltage, excitation frequency, duct length, and downstream termination of the duct were investigated. It was found that the source is capable of generating relatively high acoustic levels at its fundamental frequency (over 130 dB at maximum voltage input). Techniques for analytically predicting the acoustic levels are investigated. A commercial code for numerical modelling of structural - acoustic radiation was utilized. Results show generally good agreement with experimental measurements for the case of the short duct. It is believed that the model accuracy can be further improved through additional refinements in the modelling techniques.

Keppel Fels produces make-to-order oil exploration rigs for the global market. Each rig requires close to 6000 metric tons of steel in the course of its production. Optimal management of this steel is very critical in this line of business. However, in recent years, demand for these rigs has been increasing at a tremendous rate and previous steel management policies are fast becoming unable to cope with this surge of demand. The thesis first looks at characterizing the nature of the demand of steel plates in the company. This led to the identification of key factors of demand, resulting in a classification system of the steel plates according to their demand behavior. This system further led to the crafting of various policies to manage the risks involved in the procurement of the steel plates. We propose to use the newsboy model to minimize the inventory costs, subject to uncertain demand. The conclusion of the thesis presents the optimized steel plate procurement quantities for the company.

Abstract:

Between 1940 and 1970 the cultural landscape of Yellowstone National Park's Canyon development changed dramatically. The government relocated visitor services away from the rims of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone to a new development, inaugurating the National Park Service's Mission 66 redevelopment program. Replacing the 70-year-old, "organically grown," rustic settlement was a Modern, preconceived village resembling 1950s suburbia. This study examines how different generations of Yellowstone visitors have experienced two dramatically disparate and contested versions of Canyon as a park place. The old Canyon settlement was established incrementally and grew organically. It was tied to a geographic point and its pattern evolved through time. Unfortunately, the settlement was built quite close to the canyon's rim. When developments at Canyon were initiated in the 1880s, national parks represented a new responsibility for the federal government-a new type of land use. Entrepreneurial interests and visitor expectations challenged the government's ability to regulate visitor place creation. By the mid-1930s, federal park planning strategies matured and government control strengthened. Planners recognized the undesirable location of Canyon's visitor settlement. The government persuaded park concessioners to move the tourist settlement away from the canyon, motivated in part by the nation's developing preservation ethic. The Mission 66 initiative also encouraged a dramatic reworking of the Canyon area, producing much of the cultural landscape visible today. The formation and evolution of that landscape illustrates the evolving political strength and maturation of federal government stewardship in national parks.

Abstract:

Urban planning research and practice provides forceful evidence that urban place-making processes should not be driven by experts and planning professionals alone: they should also build on the experiential knowledge and values of lay citizens. Experience shows that the construction of the green, compact, and healthy city fostered by sustainable development policies requires considering how places are used and valued by all relevant stakeholders. SoftGIS is a form of web-based Public Participation Geographic Information Systems (PPGIS) that provides both a method and tools for mapping the values that people attach to places and for integrating these in professional urban planning practice. This report focuses on three softGIS tools: Mapita’s Maptionnaire, Spacescape’s Bästa Platsen, and SKL’s Geopanelen. Five case studies from Finland and Sweden are analysed so as to discuss some of the main substantive issues surrounding the uptake of softGIS applications urban planning practice and decision-making, particularly in the context of urban densification measures. In so doing, the extent to which softGIS can support dialogue between lay citizens and planning professionals is assessed, with a focus on urban ecosystem services in green areas. It is demonstrated that the potential of softGIS to help broaden communities of practice in urban planning hinges on a conducive institutional context for public participation and dialogue. Furthermore, it is argued that the use of softGIS tools is optimised when it is integrated in a comprehensive multifunctional toolbox that combines both physical and digital forms of public participation.

Abstract:

Depuis quelques décennies, les États européens font face à des revendications religieuses qui visent l’adaptation de règles générales applicables dans différents domaines de la vie en société, et cela dans un contexte qui s’est progressivement sécularisé. Qu’il s’agisse du port du turban sikh par les motocyclistes britanniques, de l’organisation de l’horaire de travail lors du ramadan dans les transports publics belges ou des objections à la célébration de mariages entre personnes de même sexe par les officiers d’état civil français de confession chrétienne, nombreux sont les exemples qui ont défrayé la chronique sur le Vieux Continent. Ces requêtes d’aménagement religieux ne sont pas sans mettre au défi juges et législateurs. Elles interrogent le rôle de l’État dans la résolution de ces nouveaux enjeux et poussent plus largement la réflexion sur la place de la religion dans les sociétés occidentales contemporaines. Afin de répondre spécifiquement à ces demandes, les États-Unis et le Canada ont fait découler de la liberté de religion et de l’interdiction des discriminations en matière religieuse, un droit spécifique à obtenir l’ajustement des mesures générales, qui entrent en contradiction avec les croyances ou pratiques religieuses de leur population :l’«accommodement raisonnable». Face aux sollicitations d’ordre religieux qui touchent actuellement les pays européens, il y a, depuis quelques années, une mobilisation de ce concept juridique nord-américain – déjà intégré en Europe en matière de handicap – dans les sphères médiatique, politique et également scientifique. La thèse vise à éclairer le débat européen qui pose la question de l’intégration d’un tel droit sur la base des croyances religieuses ou philosophiques. En analysant la manière dont plusieurs États européens appréhendent certaines demandes d’aménagement religieux, sur la base des outils juridiques dont ils disposent (liberté de religion, interdiction des discriminations en matière religieuse), l’étude s’est efforcée d’évaluer le degré de circulation du concept d’«accommodement raisonnable» en matière religieuse dans l’espace normatif européen et, cela, en vue de porter un regard plus critique sur l’éventuelle reconnaissance de ce principe en Europe. Pour ce faire, il a été décidé de se pencher sur les ordres juridiques de trois pays (étude de cas) qui couvrent l’échelle des divers modèles européens de prise en compte des identités religieuses (Angleterre, France et Belgique) et de se centrer sur les requêtes qui se présentent le plus fréquemment et suscitent le plus grand nombre de questions (codes vestimentaires, agencement des horaires et des jours de congé, et objection à la réalisation de devoirs déterminés). Après avoir fait le constat, dans les trois États européens analysés, de degrés très différents d’appropriation de la logique au cœur de l’«accommodement raisonnable», la thèse a finalement pu révéler les difficultés de mise en œuvre et d’articulation des sources juridiques actuellement applicables et les soucis de cohérence que cela peut engendrer dans les sociétés européennes. Sans prôner l’adoption d’un concept juridique supplémentaire visant à répondre spécifiquement aux requêtes d’aménagement religieux, à l’image du concept nord-américain d’«accommodement raisonnable» – qui paraît peu probable, peu réaliste et même parfois inutile au vu de l’analyse effectuée dans chaque État et à l’échelon européen – la thèse privilégie une meilleure connaissance et une meilleure application des droits existants et de leurs implications (examen concret de la proportionnalité des atteintes à la liberté de religion, mobilisation du concept de discrimination indirecte), permettant de se conformer aux engagements européens et internationaux en matière de droits fondamentaux et de lutte contre les discriminations.

Abstract:

L'objectif de cette these est de demontrer la faisabilite de mesurer tres rapidement les antennes directives en explorant le plan focal d'une base compacte a l'aide d'un reseau de sondes. L'une des techniques traditionnelles preconise l'utilisation des bases compactes pour tester directement les caracteristiques de rayonnement en champ lointain des antennes. Cette technique offre de nombreux avantages mais elle necessite un mouvement mecanique des antennes a mesurer. La nouvelle technique proposee permet d'eviter ce mouvement mecanique et de reduire la duree de la mesure. Ce memoire etablit, dans un premier temps, le formalisme theorique demontrant l'interet de cette technique puis, dans un deuxieme temps, decrit la methode necessaire pour dimensionner une installation utilisant un arrangement base compacte/reseau focal. Dans un troisieme temps, une etude experimentale permet de montrer la faisabilite pratique. Les experimentations sont effectuees dans la base compacte de l'agence spatiale europeenne. Une antenne directive fonctionnant a 9. 24 ghz sert d'antenne de test pour toutes les mesures. Les resultats positifs obtenus permettent d'appliquer cette technique aux mesures d'antennes directives non-reciproques et cette derniere possibilite est traitee dans le memoire. Finalement, des perspectives interessantes de ce principe sont exposees

AbstractWith a rapid development of data-driven technologies, many opportunities have arisen to understand and characterize urban contexts. This paper addresses the methodology to understand a place in urban settings through the lens of third places and motility based on the walkable distance. To capture and process third-place data, fetched from Google Places, based on a given location, this paper discuses two data structures and process of discrete and continuous data. Representation of third places in a specific location of a city is characterized by representative queries. Its identified chart as a perspective of understanding a designated area could compare with other charts in different places. This method allows us to distinguish the constitution of third places based on the distance among places, enabling us to develop design strategies to differentiate or accord the sites based on mobility. The goal is to set up a method to process, interpolate, and visualize discrete and continuous urban data with representative queries of third places based on distance.

Abstract:

The CEA’s Aladin gamma imaging system has been operated successfully for several years in nuclear plants and during decommissioning projects with additional tools such as gamma spectrometry detectors and dose rate probes. The radiological information supplied by these devices is becoming increasingly useful for establishing robust and optimized decommissioning scenarios. Recent technical improvements allow this gamma imaging system to be operated in low-level applications and with shorter acquisition times suitable for decommissioning projects. The compact portable system can be used in places inaccessible to operators. It is quick and easy to implement, notably for onsite component characterization. Feasibility trials and in situ measurements were recently carried out under low-level conditions, mainly on waste packages and glove boxes for decommissioning projects. This paper describes recent low-level in situ applications. These characterization campaigns mainly concerned gamma emitters with γ energy < 700 keV. In many cases, the localization of hot spots by gamma camera was confirmed by additional measurements such as dose rate mapping and gamma spectrometry measurements. These complementary techniques associated with advanced calculation codes (MCNP, Mercure 6.2, Visiplan and Siren) offer a mobile and compact tool for specific assessment of waste packages and glove boxes.

Abstract:

Abstract Gas Carry-Under (GCU) is one of the undesirable phenomena that exist in the Gas-Liquid Cylindrical Cyclone (GLCC) separators even within the liquid carry-over Operational Envelope (OE). In order to quantify the GCU, it is important to understand the cause of gas entrainment that occurs in the GLCC other than the incoming entrained gas within the liquid medium. The tangential inclined inlet of 27° with reduced area allows the stratified liquid flow to exit the inlet nozzle tangentially along the wall into the vertical lower part of the GLCC, whereby the liquid film spreads along the wall in an asymmetrical shape. The gas moves to the center of the GLCC and escapes through the gas leg. The liquid film flow is complex and turbulent exhibiting unevenness of the film thickness and asymmetrical velocity distribution. Experimental investigations show that the magnitude of liquid wall jet film tangential and axial velocity change as a function of length along the GLCC below the inlet of the GLCC. This wall jet film flowing down along the wall is the cause for gas entrainment and GCU. The experimental results show that the gas entrainment mechanism is not like the conventional jet entrainment as expected to be occurring in GLCC. The change in velocities of the wall jet film at various liquid heights maintained below the inlet results in varying gas entrainment at various inlet liquid levels and for fluid properties. The wall jet phenomena that takes places at the inlet has been discussed in detail and a mechanistic model capable of predicting the wall jet parameters has been presented in this paper. Further, a novel mechanistic model that is developed for the first time is also presented which can predict the gas entrainment at various liquid levels and flow conditions using the wall jet parameters as an input condition.

Abstract:

Efficient managing sustainable urban development requires constant observations of trends in the key areas. One of the important areas is undoubtedly directing development of residential areas within the city and its surroundings. Nowadays, increasing incomes and transport mobility of the city citizens enable choosing between living within the city’s borders and building houses in the suburbs. Latter option makes city less compact and generates urban sprawl. As many controversies still arise over sprawling cities, the opposite of the smart growth, the factors behind this process should be monitored. In this article, we focused on spatial dependencies between localization of working and living places, because an access to the workplace seems to be one of the key determinants of choosing the particular place of residence. Therefore we decided to verify the following hypothesis: localization of the biggest employers in the city shapes the development of residential areas in the suburbs, and the influence depends on: current migration trends, specifics of the employers and their activity on the real estate market. The verification was carried out in the city of Olsztyn (Poland), the capital of Warmia and Mazury Province, and included careful analysis of the three city's biggest employers.

Castles and fortified villages in the central Apennines of Italy. History and conservationThe areas of the central Apennines of Italy constitute a particularly interesting research laboratory with its perched towns and its castles. Here there is a close link between the quantity of fortifications and the prevailing mountainous terrain. This has fixed in the history of the places a condition of correspondence that acts as a counterpoint to all its culture, from the economy to the costumes to the forms of the settlement. The inhabited centers also managed to guard the territory, like the numerous castles built during the Middle Ages close to rocky and harsh slopes. This because they are located in places that due to the altitude were naturally fortified, but which at supplement were enhanced with closed and compact building fabrics. The fortified villages have often elicited, with their walled houses and the steep and narrow streets, the representations of travelers-artists from the nineteenth century like the Dutchman Maurits Cornelis Escher. The purpose of this contribution is to draw attention to the reality of an architectural heritage that goes beyond the isolated episode of the feudal castle to create a network with natural and anthropic contexts of wider horizon. These are today subject to severe loss of identity due to the marginal position they often find themselves in and also to the action of the many earthquakes that have raged over time.

Abstract:

The Ultra Compact Combustor (UCC) is an innovative combustor system alternative to traditional turbine engine combustors with the potential for engine efficiency improvements with a reduced volume. Historically, the UCC cavity had been configured such that highly centrifugally loaded combustion took place in a recessed circumferential cavity positioned around the outside diameter of the engine. One of the obstacles with this design was that the combustion products had to migrate radially across the span of a vane while being pushed downstream by a central core flow. This configuration proved difficult to produce a uniform temperature distribution at the first turbine rotor. The present study has taken a different spin on the implementation of circumferential combustion. Namely, it aims to combine the combustion and space saving benefits of the highly centrifugally loaded combustion of the UCC in a new combustor orientation that places the combustor axially upstream of the turbine versus radially outboard. An iterative design approach was used to computationally analyze this new geometry configuration with the goal of fitting within the casing of a JetCat P90RXi. This investigation revealed techniques for implementation of this concept including small-scale combustor centrifugal air loading development, maintaining combustor circumferential swirl, combustion stability, and fuel distribution are reported. Furthermore, dramatic improvements in the uniformity of the turbine inlet temperature profiles are revealed over historical UCC concepts.

Abstract:

This paper presents the work addressing the issue of standing up after falling down for a novel three-legged mobile robot STriDER (Self-excited Tripedal Dynamic Experimental Robot). The robot is inherently stable when all three feet are on the ground due to its tripod stance, but it can still fall down if it trips while taking a step or if unexpected external forces act on it. The unique structure of STriDER makes the simple task of standing up challenging for a number of reasons; the high height of the robot and long limbs require high torque at the actuators due to its large moment arms; the joint configuration and length of the limbs limit the workspace where the feet can be placed on the ground for support; the compact design of the joints allows limited joint actuation motor output torque; three limbs do not allow extra support and stability in the process of standing up. This paper examines four standing up strategies unique to STriDER: three feet, two feet and one foot pushup, and spiral pushup. For all of these standing up strategies, the robot places its feet or foot at desired positions and then pushes the feet against the ground thus, lifting the body upwards. The four pushup methods for standing up were analyzed and evaluated considering the constraints such as, static stability, friction at the feet, kinematic configuration and joint motor torque limits, thus determining the suggested design and operation parameters. The motor torque trends as the robot stands up using pushup methods were investigated and the results from the analysis were validated through experiments.

Abstract:

The present work sets the basis for the development of a systematic eco-sustainable computer aided design procedure. During years modules for the specific design of all phases of a product life-cycle have been developed: manufacturing, assembly, reliability, maintainability, resilience, disassembly, end-of-use, etc. This work instead places itself in a broader context of “Design for ecology”. It means to overcome the limits of a classic design process such as “Design for X”, through an approach that makes the designer aware of the consequences that each design modification (to the geometry, the material or the manufacturing process) determines on the environmental impact of the product entire life-cycle. This work proposes a method of integrated management of (1)virtual prototyping software (such as structural optimization, FEM and CAD), (2) function modelling methodology and (3) LCA tools. It is mainly based on the configuration of structural optimization strategies especially conceived to obtain lighter and more compact products, therefore, more eco-sustainable. The method, due to the nature of the instruments it employs, can be applied only to products that can be modelled in a CAD environment. The article, in particular, shows how to articulate the workflow between virtual prototyping and LCA tools. A case study regarding a moped rim is used to explain the procedure while software implementation is still underway.

The Annual Report on Migration and Asylum 2016 provides an overview of trends, policy developments and significant debates in the area of asylum and migration during 2016 in Ireland. Some important developments in 2016 included: The International Protection Act 2015 was commenced throughout 2016. The single application procedure under the Act came into operation from 31 December 2016. The International Protection Office (IPO) replaced the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner (ORAC) from 31 December 2016. The first instance appeals body, the International Protection Appeals Tribunal (IPAT), replacing the Refugee Appeals Tribunal (RAT), was established on 31 December 2016. An online appointments system for all registrations at the Registration Office in Dublin was introduced. An electronic Employment Permits Online System (EPOS) was introduced. The Irish Short Stay Visa Waiver Programme was extended for a further five years to October 2021. The Second National Action Plan to Prevent and Combat Human Trafficking was published. 2016 was the first full year of implementation of the Irish Refugee Protection Programme (IRPP). A total of 240 persons were relocated to Ireland from Greece under the relocation strand of the programme and 356 persons were resettled to Ireland. Following an Oireachtas motion, the Government agreed to allocate up to 200 places to unaccompanied minors who had been living in the former migrant camp in Calais and who expressed a wish to come to Ireland. This figure is included in the overall total under the IRPP. Ireland and Jordan were appointed as co-facilitators in February 2016 to conduct preparatory negotiations for the UN high level Summit for Refugees and Migrants. The New York Declaration, of September 2016, sets out plans to start negotiations for a global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration and a global compact for refugees to be adopted in 2018. Key figures for 2016: There were approximately 115,000 non-EEA nationals with permission to remain in Ireland in 2016 compared to 114,000 at the end of 2015. Net inward migration for non-EU nationals is estimated to be 15,700. The number of newly arriving immigrants increased year-on-year to 84,600 at April 2017 from 82,300 at end April 2016. Non-EU nationals represented 34.8 per cent of this total at end April 2017. A total of 104,572 visas, both long stay and short stay, were issued in 2016. Approximately 4,127 persons were refused entry to Ireland at the external borders. Of these, 396 were subsequently admitted to pursue a protection application. 428 persons were returned from Ireland as part of forced return measures, with 187 availing of voluntary return, of which 143 were assisted by the International Organization for Migration Assisted Voluntary Return Programme. There were 532 permissions of leave to remain granted under section 3 of the Immigration Act 1999 during 2016. A total of 2,244 applications for refugee status were received in 2016, a drop of 32 per cent from 2015 (3,276). 641 subsidiary protection cases were processed and 431 new applications for subsidiary protection were submitted. 358 applications for family reunification in respect of recognised refugees were received. A total of 95 alleged trafficking victims were identified, compared with 78 in 2015.

Abstract:

The article examines the world and Ukrainian history of corporate periodicals. The main purpose of this study is to reproduce an objective global picture of the emergence and formation of corporate periodicals, taking into account the business and socio-economic context. Accordingly, its tasks are to compare the conditions and features of corporate media genesis in different countries, to determine the main factors of their development, as well as to clarify the transformations of the terminological apparatus. The research is based on mostly foreign secondary scientific works published from 1915 to the present time. The literature was studied using methods such as overview, historical, functional and thematic analysis, description, and generalization. A systematic approach was used to determine the role and place of each element in the system, as well as to comprehensively consider the object in the general historical context and within the current scientific discourse. The method of systematization made it possible to establish internal and external connections, patterns and contradictions in the development of the object of study. The main historical milestones on this path are identified, examples of the first successful corporate publications and their contribution to business development, public relations, and corporate communications are considered. It was found that corporate media emerged in the mid-nineteenth century spontaneously, on the wave of practical business needs in response to industrialization, company increase, staff growth, and consumer market development. Their appearance preceded the formation of the public relations industry and changed the structure of the information space. The scientific significance of this research is that the historical look at the evolution of corporate media provides an understanding of their place, influence, capabilities, and growing communicative role in the digital age.
