Full textThis thesis deals with the analysis of spectral and dynamical properties of quantum mechanical systems using techniques of operator commutators. Two of the three research papers that are presented deal exclusively with the discrete Schrödinger operators on the lattice. The first article proves a limiting absorption principle for the multi-dimensional discrete Laplacian perturbed by the sum of a Wigner-von Neumann potential and long-range potential. This result notably implies the absolute continuity of the spectrum of this Hamiltonian at certain energies. The second article proves that eigenfunctions corresponding to non-threshold eigenvalues of multidimensional discrete Schrödinger operators decay sub-exponentially. In one dimension, it is further proven that these eigenfunctions decay exponentially. A consequence of this is the absence of eigenvalues when the middle portion of the spectrum does not contain any thresholds. The third article investigates dynamical properties of Hamiltonians under very minimal assumptions in the theory of commutators. Based on minimal escape velocities and an improved version of the RAGE Theorem, we derive propagation estimates for these types of Hamiltonians. These estimates indicate that the states of the system behave dynamically very much like scattering states. Nonetheless, the existence of singularly continuous states cannot be disproved

Full textMy PhD work is composed of two parts, the first part is dedicated to the discrete-time stochastic analysis for obtuse random walks as to the second part, it is linked to free probability. In the first part, we present a construction of the stochastic integral of predictable square-integrable processes and the associated multiple stochastic integrals ofsymmetric functions on Nn (n_1), with respect to a normal martingale.[...] In a second step, we revisited thedescription of the marginal distribution of the Brownian motion on the large-size complex linear group. Precisely, let (Z(d)t )t_0 be a Brownian motion on GL(d,C) and consider nt the limit as d !¥ of the distribution of (Z(d)t/d)⋆Z(d)t/d with respect to E×tr

Full textThis thesis reports on a detailed characterization of the second harmonic generation (SHG) responses of indolino-oxazolidine derivatives in different environments. These molecular switches are particularly interesting because they can commute between a colorless closed form and a colored open form when triggered by various external stimuli. The two forms display different second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) responses and a huge contrast of the associated value, making these systems interesting for applications in molecular-scale memory devices with multiple storage and nondestructive read-out capacity. In particular, this thesis demonstrates that the performance of the NLO switches remains when forming self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). This investigation is carried out by using a multi-disciplinary approach that combines measurements of the linear and nonlinear optical responses of the switches in solution with theoretical chemistry calculations performed for molecules in solutions as well as in SAMs. The main results include 1 ) a comparative analysis of the hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) and electric-field induced SHG (EFISHG) responses of the molecules in solution, demonstrating they could be much different owing to the amplitude and orientation of the dipole moment as well as to the non-negligible third-order NLO contribution to EFISHG, 2 ) the investigation of the effects of adding an acceptor nitro group on the oxazolidine of substituting the bithiophene donor group by an alternative ferrocene unit, which both reduce the contrast, and 3 ) the implementation and optimization of a multi-scale numerical method (MD-then-QM) to predict the NLO responses of dynamical systems, which consists in sampling the system geometries and structures using molecular dynamics (MD) and then in evaluating the NLO responses at ab initio quantum mechanical levels (QM). These results as well as the implemented method open the way to investigate new dynamical systems and to design efficient NLO switches

Phys.

Full textWe aim at proving the existence of invariants sets for continuous systems and viability kernels for (time-dependent and state-dependent) switched systems in compact subsets of the phase space. They are of the most important objects of dynamical systems theory. They can be described informally by saying that they are subsets such that, if the dynamical system goes inside, it will remain inside forever. For proving the existence of such sets we will use a topological property named the Wazewski property (or principle). We will firstly present an effective method for applying this principle for continuous systems and then we will generalize this first method in order to make it applicable also for switched systems

Full textThe multiple applications related to networked multi-agent systems such as satellite formation flying, coupled oscillators, air traffic control, unmanned air vehicles, cooperative transport, among others, has been undoubtedly a watershed for the development of this thesis. The study of cooperative control of multi-agent systems is of great interest for his extensive field work and applications. This thesis is devoted to the study of consensus seeking of multi-agents systems and trajectory tracking of nonholonomic mobile robots. In the context of consensus seeking, first we study a ring topology of dynamic agents with time-dependent communication links which may disconnect for long intervals of time. Simple checkable conditions are obtained by using small-gain theorem to guarantee the achievement of consensus. Then, we deal with a network of dynamic agents with time-dependent communication links interconnected over a time-varying topology. We establish that consensus is reached provided that there always exists a « spanning-tree » for a minimal dwell-time by using stability theory of time-varying and switched systems. In the context of trajectory tracking, we investigate a simple leader-follower tracking controller for autonomous vehicles following straight lines. We show that global tracking may be achieved by a controller which has a property of persistency of excitation tailored for nonlinear systems. Roughly speaking the stabilisation mechanism relies on exciting the system by an amount that is proportional to the tracking error. Moreover, the method is used to solve the problem of formation tracking of multiple vehicles interconnected on the basis of a « spanning-tree » topology. We derive stability conditions for the kinematic and dynamic model by using a Lyapunov approach

Full textThis thesis is a theoretical study on the cobalt porphyrin - coinage metal surface interface with the DFT code VASP. The necessary DFT framework has been introduced in chapter 1. The structure of the Java program jBardeen for STM simulation is explained in chapter 2 and the source code is attached as Appendix. A study of the adsorption of CoTPP on coinage metal surfaces has been undertaken in chapter 3. Different parameters of the calculation have been evaluated: the adsorption site and the geometry of both the molecule and surface have been investigated with respect to the xc-functional and dispersion correction used. A most stable adsorption site -bridge down- is identified. Consequently, this most stable site was investigated for its electronic structure. Calculated STM images with the jBardeen code were compared with an experiment of CoTPP on a Cu(111) surface with sub monolayer coverage. In chapter 4 an Fe adatom was introduced to the CoTPP on Ag(111) system. Three symmetrically different binding sites for the Fe atom were identified on the macrocycle, labelled the bi-, brd- and bru-positions for bisector, bridge down and bridge up respectively. A magnetic moment could be evidenced which was mainly located on the Fe atom. Possible pathways between the four symmetrically equivalent bisector sites were investigated with different methods. Single point calculations in vacuum and Nudged Elastic Band (NEB) of the whole system revealed a barrier height of slightly above 0.2 eV going from bi- to the brd-position. A vibrational analysis showed that switching of the Fe atom is likely, when perturbed out of equilibrium in the brd- and bru- positions
