Abstract:
Cassiterite has been an essential source of tin; its exploration and exploitation have become a priority worldwide. The effective beneficiation of cassiterite depends mainly on its grindability and effective liberation. The Modified Bond's grindability test is a method used to determine the work index, which is crucial in estimating the energy needed to grind an ore. This is crucial during mineral processing, as a slight deviation would affect the company's operating expenditure (OPEX). This study investigates the work index for Farin-Lamba cassiterite with reference to silica sand sourced from Igbokoda. The test ore (cassiterite) was analyzed using Energy Dispersed X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (ED-XRS), Petrographic Analysis, and Scanning Electron Microscope equipped with an Energy Dispersive Spectrum (SEM-EDS) to understand their chemical and mineralogical characteristics in relation to their grindability. The test ore and the reference material (silica sand) underwent comminution using 500g of each to a 100% passing 500 μm array of sieves arranged in (√2) series from 500μm to 63μm onto an automatic sieve shaker. The chemical and mineralogical analysis revealed the presence of gangue such as SiO2 and Al2O3, which increases the energy needed during communition; further, the presence of rough and large grain size in the ore also increases the energy needed for communition. The results were subjected to Gaudin Schuman's equation to determine the ore's work index, which was 14.664 KWh/ton for the test ore, which is standard for cassiterite, which ranges from 10-15 kWh/ton. Further, the energy needed for comminution was calculated to be 33.7272 Kwh, providing valuable insights into the energy efficiency of the grinding process. The evaluation of the grindability of Farin-Lamba cassiterite in relation to the reference ore not only contributes toward understanding the ore processing dynamics but also provides information needed for the optimization of energy consumed during the process of tin oxide production.

Abstract:
Housing is one of the most fundamental subjects of architecture, not just for the basic purpose of shelter, but for the place where vitality can be transcended to the people living in them. 'Housing' rather than 'house' marks the intersection between architecture and urban design and the simultaneous existence of the individual and collective. Housing is also a form of material culture. As such, it cannot be understood without studying the cultural and economic conditions of its production. - Rem Koolhaas, 'Conversations with students' With the gradual change in family structure, housing accommodations would be smaller as the family size reduces, however, common open space and active recreation of all types would be enlarged. This would be a greater opportunity to integrate urban with suburban environments - the town's cultural and employment opportunities would be within easy access to the countryside and to nature. "Architecture is an art filled with contradictions. The more we learned about these contradictions in architecture, the more they translate these contradictions into an antitheses; between discipline and freedom, between technology and environment, between modernity and tradition. But....discipline sets limits to freedom, yet it is also its container, the thing that gives it form. These two elements coexist and interact." - Herman Hertzberger, 'Lessons for students in Architecture' The meaning of space can be clarified as dualities; between public and private, light and shadow, positive and negative, horizontal and vertical, man-made and nature, and denotative and connotative. Space is transformed into characteristic place through these changes, layers and sequences of movement. It would undoubtedly guide urban growth toward a more humane living environment which can recover community space set against stereotypical architecture.

Park, Tae Jung. "Art therapy with Korean migrant women in a Korean communityin the UK." Thesis, Goldsmiths College (University of London), 2016. http://research.gold.ac.uk/18387/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis addresses an art therapy intervention in a Korean community in the UK. It describes the historical, social and cultural contexts of South and North Koreans, including Korean art and education throughout history in order to contextualize the research and the findings. It also portrays the researcher’s experiences as a Korean migrant as well as an art psychotherapist, exposed first to Eastern culture then to Western, becoming an art therapist and then working with Korean migrants in the UK. Case material from an art therapy group, an art activity group and individual art therapy with Korean migrants in different organisations were analysed alongside the author’s autobiographical journey which was also considered as a ‘case’. This research therefore explores how art therapy might be applicable to Korean migrants who are living in a Korean community in the UK in the context of the cultural complexities and social change characterised by migration. Throughout the research a qualitative research design was used which analysed the cases with an ethnographical lens, based on existing migration theories. Five conceptualisations were discovered that enable this researcher to understand this particular social group of Korean migrants. These are: cultural transition, or not; the relationship between migration experience and mental health; the influence of religion on migrants’ mental health; the relationship between Korean art education and art therapy; and the influence of socio-political issues in the Korean migrants’ community. These theoretical lenses illuminated how the process of migration has a massive impact on the migrants’ life in the host country and showed how it interweaves with the historical, social and cultural context of Korea. Many assumptions were challenged during the research. Particular considerations for working with Korean people in art therapy were explored, and the research concluded that it was important to be aware and work appropriately with people of other cultures in art therapy within the Western framework, to maintain its relationship between art, health and culture. This study has implications for the significance of examining the art therapist’s assumptions and presuppositions when art therapy is introduced to another culture, and when working with similarity and difference. It also has implications for art therapy practice, namely the importance of considering: the cultural values of clients’ origins, including their previous experiences of art-making and art education, despite migrants’ exposure to Western society; the current socio-cultural context of clients’ lives in their community in the host country; and adjusting art therapy practice so that it is appropriate to clients from different cultures.

Abstract:
People in organisations often have difficulty communicating with each other about their understanding of the problems of the organisation. The Dramatistic Approach is an organisational inquiry method, based on a notion of ?script?, which assists people in organisations to discuss interpersonal communication problems. A ?script? is defined in this document as being an unconscious socialised social routine. The purpose of this thesis is to document an inquiry into ?Human sculpture?, a process using dramatisation to facilitate discussion about the notion of ?script? in the organisational setting. The inquiry method is action research in the post positivist research paradigm, and is written in four chapters. The use of the notion ?script? within the disciplines of therapy and organizational studies is examined. The appropriateness of the positivist paradigm for human inquiry is debated, reaching the conclusion that a post positivist paradigm needs to underpin a human inquiry of the nature of the inquiry about ?Human sculpture?. The nine cycles of the inquiry are documented. The learnings which have emerged from this inquiry are discussed, addressing the primary focus of the inquiry, the procedure and facilitation of ?Human sculpture?, as well as two secondary focii which emerged, the notion of ?script? and the facilitation of a human inquiry

Sim, Hyung Guen. "Wisdom and salvation history in the wisdom Psalms / by Hyung Guen Sim." Thesis, North-West University, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/1844.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation is an exploration of the relationship of wisdom to salvation history in the book of Psalms. The notional starting point of this thesis is a conviction that there might be a juncture at which the two themes converge because in certain psalms such as Psalm 78, the Israelite concept of salvation appears to have a close relationship with the wisdom theme. In the history of Psalm interpretation so far, the concept of wisdom psalm has not been properly dealt with due to scholastic difficulty in ascertaining the clear criteria of a genre. The process of scrutinizing the history of interpretation showed that the Psalms in their final form were far more purposeful than were previously understood. The major guiding principles of the method employed are: (1) 'the canonical approach' of Brevard Childs; (2) 'the canonical criticism' of James Sanders; (3) 'the canonical process approach' of Bruce Waltke; (4) 'the Christo-canonical approach' of Jerry E. Shepherd; and (5) 'the communito-canonical approach' of deClaissé-Walford. This thesis made use of these methodological principles by attempting to read the Psalter from the beginning to the end, and by focusing mainly on the final stage of the Psalter proposed by B. Waltke as the third stage, or the final and complete Old Testament canon associated with the Second Temple, and by purposefully limiting the scope of our study to around the post-exilic period. Having dealt with the issue of classifying the wisdom psalm, the presence of the wisdom motif in many psalms which do not fall into the wisdom category serves to add a didactic dimension to the entire Psalter. In so doing, we reach a conclusion that what we are dealing with is not merely the wisdom psalms within the Psalms, but 'the wisdom Psalter' as a literary unit. Then, it can be said that the Psalter is not merely an anthology of individual psalms used for cult, but was meant to be read also as a source of min , an instruction. This means that every psalm in the Psalter has pedagogical potential, which may have been the ostensible intent of the editor(s) at the final stage of the formation of the Psalter. On this premise, this study attempts to set up a strategy to read the Psalms from the beginning to the end from book I up to book V as a wisdom Psalter, with a particular focus on how the wisdom motif relates to the salvation history motif. The question did not merely concern their interpretation as disjointed pieces, but also what their presence in the book of Psalter meant in terms of the relationship between wisdom and salvation history. This means that the study is influenced less by a historical and form critical approach, but more from a literary and canonical perspective.

This paper presents the design of a reliable, connection-oriented multicast transport layer protocol called Multicast Transmission Control Protocol (MTCP). MTCP provides sequenced lossless delivery of data from one sender to multiple receivers. It operates in the Internet, a heterogeneous network composed of different receivers with diverse data transfer capacity, and assumes the use of Internet IP multicast service. It maximize the receiving data rate of individual receivers, and minimize the overhead of the sender. Several features are used to achieve these design goals: destination grouping, multi-window flow control, packet pre-buffering, negative acknowledgment and Era-based packet retransmission, periodic transmission of sender report and receiver report packets between sender and receivers to keep track of how well receivers are receiving data. We also present some simulation result of MTCP with receivers located at various sites of Internet, and discuss the impact of destination grouping, Era length, SR, RR, NACK retransmission frequency on the MTCP performance.

Gaoshi Community of Mudan Village located in Southeast corner of Pingtung County is at the most southern point of Taiwan’s Central Mountain Ridge. It is also the most southern indigenous tribe of Taiwan. Currently, Gaoshi Community Development Association is actively participating and advancing several community projects. However, the aging community has suffered loss of younger residents migrating away and its infrastructure has become outdated. Therefore, in the spirit of “bottom to top” of Rural Regeneration the community hopes to utilize the method of “labor retaining and materials procurement” which will allow the whole village to participate and bring the community closer in order to conceive a proposal that will fulfill the vision of the tribe. With the strength of the community, this research hopes to develop a scheme in the planning phase that will combine living, ecology and manufacturing to create a sustainable vision for the community. The planning approach is to reorganize the overall planning concept of the community. With the core community as the center of development, a scheme conforming to the values and basic blueprint of the community will be formulated via assessing the needs of the community, site visits, data gathering, and existing conditions. The concluding result points out the boundaries of community development should be carried out in phases spanning 4 years. In principle, infrastructure and environmental values will improve from 3 aspects: living, manufacturing and ecology. With the initial consent from the community, one by one, conservation measures will be added, restoring values and respects to ecological environment. Eventually, a manufacturing zone will be developed in core community area, elevating quality of products, branding image, thus resolving community issues.

Abstract:
Recognized by law, the Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS), is thesecond Brazilian official language and, according to IBGE (BrazilianInstitute of Geography and Statistics), Brazil has a large communityof hearing-impaired people, with approximately nine million ofdeaf people. Besides that, most of the non-deaf community cannotcommunicate or understand this language. Considering that, theuse of LIBRAS’ interpreters becomes extremely necessary in orderto allow a greater inclusion of people with this type of disabilitywith the whole community. However, an alternative solution tothis problem would be to use artificial neural network methods forthe LIBRAS recognition and translation. In this work, a processof LIBRAS’ recognition and translation is presented, using videosas input and a convolutional-recurrent neural network, known asConvLSTM. This type of neural network receives the sequence offrames from the videos and analyzes, frame by frame, if the framebelongs to the video and if the video belongs to a specific class. This analysis is done in two steps: first, the image is analyzed inthe convolutional layer of the network and, after that, it is sent tothe network recurrent layer. In the current version of the implementednetwork, data collection has already been carried out, theconvolutional-recurrent neural network has been trained and it ispossible to recognize when a given LIBRAS’ video represents ornot a specific sentence in this language.
