Abstract:
The article presents the author’s approach to modelling intergenerational communications based on the concept of social exchanges . The macro-level model describes different balances of exchanges of material and non-material resources between three generations and within one generation. Modelling allows us to provide an empirical analysis of quantitative data that form one of the possible outcomes: donation, recipient, parity. Based on micro-level and macrolevel models, the author proposed a set of projects in the field of youth policy for the integration of generations. Projects were classified according to areas of public life.

Abstract:
The motivation for this research arises from the challenges in the trustworthy communications related operation of cyber-physical systems (CPS), especially in the energy and mobility domains. The increasing amount of distributed energy resources (DERs) of prosumers and electric vehicles requires new ways for CPS communications to enable information exchanges for smart operation in peak consumption hours and balancing power levels in the energy grids in order to lower the energy cost. The huge number of mobile appliances and the related service providers do not serve properly the privacy of the owners, owing to the vertical silo type of operating model in industries. As the results of this research, we provide a trustworthy communication hub for CPS (CPS hub) for solving the challenges related to trustworthy communications between physical resources owned by different stakeholders. The CPS hub realizes the communication spaces concept, and enables combined trust and communications processes when dynamic resources owned by different stakeholders are exchanging information. The evaluations showed that the provided CPS hub enable information exchanges between distributed energy resources of different stakeholders, so that they can join the aggregation process for more flexible and efficient resource usage in energy markets. The CPS hub enable interaction between heterogeneous physical devices of multiple stakeholders to exchange information so that, for example, authorities can see the situation in the emergency area and, simultaneously, the policies of the owners can be taken into concern. Despite limited evaluation scenarios, it is shown that consideration of the ownership issues in the trustworthy communication for information exchanges between heterogeneous physical resources (devices) is possible and feasible. Several future research items, such as, for example, scalability; real-time and streams based operation; as well as consideration of the security, privacy, trust, and safety challenges, were detected. However, the evaluations showed that the constructed CPS hub contribute a set of very essential technical enablers for future smart CPS systems and create strong a basis for such future research towards a future smart society.

Abstract:
Chinese-Polish literary exchanges: Overview and perspectives Despite the great geographical distance between China and Poland, the two countries share a long and deep friendship. In recent years, literature has made frequent appearances at different levels of interactions and communications between China and Poland, demonstrating the unique role of literary exchanges in promoting the development of a relationship between two countries. This essay provides a systematic compendium, a comprehensive summary, and a multidimensional analysis of Chinese-Polish literary exchanges. Beginning with methodology, it introduces the purpose, subjects, range, levels, and theoretical tools of the study of two countries’ literary relations. Through a multi-dimensional study of literary reception, the Chinese-Polish literary exchange is divided into five periods: an early period of “mutual acquaintance”, a period of “initial development” in the first half of the 20th century, a period of “becoming mature” in the second half of the 20th century, a period of “increasing prosperity” in the new era, and a period of “new times” since 2012. The essay analyzes the contents, characteristics, and causes of Chinese-Polish literary exchanges in every period, objectively depicting the panorama of exchanges in literature between the two countries. On this basis, the patterns of Chinese-Polish literary exchanges are summarized from three dimensions: translation, imagology, and communication. Finally, suggestions are offered on how to effectively carry out the mutual promotion of Chinese and Polish literature in the future.

Abstract:
This paper portrays how English language is constructed and displayed by shipboard crews and shore-based personnel when communicating through radiotelephony. Based on internationally-recognized recommendations for implementation when ships communicate with each other or with shore-based stations as well as on examples of current practice contained in marine communication manuals, this paper explores the message patterns, the standardized conventions, and the general and discursive practices governing speech communications at sea. Firstly, marine communications are defined and the role of Maritime English in the shipping industry for ensuring a safe and efficient passage discussed. Then, the standardized language of the sea is explained. Next, a move-step model to the analysis of the stages making up communicative exchanges at sea is applied and the main general and discursive features that prevail in such exchanges described. Finally, two examples help to illustrate the model and features presented and discussed.

Abstract:
This article analyzes some of the social mechanisms and material processes involved in Jesuit global communication in the first decades of the Society’s history. The exchange of administrative correspondence, news-sheets (quadrimestres), and edifying letters from the overseas missions was coordinated by the Society’s Roman secretary, Juan Alfonso de Polanco. Communication made significant material demands on both Rome and key transmission nodes on the Jesuit network. In 1560, a decentralized system of scribal production of news and letters was established. Particular pressure was placed on Lisbon, a crucial communications hub for exchanges between Jesuits in Europe and the overseas missions. The last part of the article examines the experience of the Jesuit procurator in Lisbon, charged with managing the exchange of documents between Europe and Jesuits in Asia, Africa, and Brazil. The case of Lisbon, though exceptional, reflects many of the everyday realities of Jesuit communication during the Society’s formative period. Several documents are published in an appendix.

Abstract:
In the 21st century, the world became a sign of globalization: global conflicts, global disasters, global economy, global Internet, etc. The Polish researcher Casimir Zhigulsky defines globalization as a kind of process, that is, the target set of characteristic changes that develop over time and occur in the modern world. These changes in general are reduced to mutual rapprochement, reduction of distances, the rapid appearance of a large number of different connections, contacts, exchanges, and to increase the dependence of society in almost all spheres of his life from what is happening in other, often very remote regions of the world.

Abstract:
The impact of computer-mediated communication (CMC) on organizational cultures and users has been the focus of many previous studies. In their attempts to explain the effects of CMC in organizational communications, particularly the effects of e-mail, information systems researchers have tested theories that originated in a number of disciplines. Among the effects of CMC, one potentially important issue is the relationship between subordinates and their supervisors. This study empirically examines the impact of e-mail usage on the quality of these exchanges, and attempts to measure the resulting depth of the interpersonal relationships established between knowledge workers and their immediate superiors. The results show that among several usage factors investigated, e-mail communication frequency has a more direct correlation to exchange quality than other factors, among them communication richness, which did not have significant correlation. A path diagram was developed to illustrate the relationships of the variables.

Abstract:
While key negotiation schemes, such as those based on Diffie–Hellman, have been the subject of ongoing research, designing an efficient and security scheme remains challenging. In this paper, we propose a novel key negotiation scheme based on blockchain, which can be deployed in blockchain-enabled contexts such as data sharing or facilitating electric transactions between vehicles (e.g., unmanned vehicles). We propose three candidates for flexible selection, namely, key exchanges via transaction currency values through value channels (such as the amount in transactions), automated key exchanges through static scripts, and dynamic scripts, which can not only guarantee key availability with timeliness but also defend against MITM (man-in-the-middle) attacks, packet-dropping attacks, and decryption failure attacks.

Abstract:
Recently, a variety of the integrated service platforms demand the innovative network technologies such as software-defined networking (SDN). However, it is problematic and complicated to provide interconnectivity and reachability between inter-domain SDNs. Thus, this paper proposes a scheme for the inter-SDN federation and communication based on the abstracted network information exchange and automated peer network configuration for the integrated network services. The proposed scheme is implemented and verified over the de-facto wide-area SDN infrastructure (KREONET-S) which is deployed on Korea Research Environment Open Network (KREONET), a representative national research network in Korea. The proposed method is implemented and experimented based on the distributed and layer-2 oriented network architecture by using the abstracted message exchanges between local SDN controllers in order to provide low message overheads and high federation scalability. Our research work contributes to more efficient inter-SDN communications by means of the data modeling abstraction of the local SDN network information and the simplified interactions between individual controllers by the automated configurations through the specific application interfaces. The proposed scheme also contributes to the development of the integrated service platforms which are demanded to provide IoT, Big Data, AI, and cloud services in the tightly coupled manner over the inter-SDN domains.

Abstract:
Arguing for a reconsideration of the object's function in court life, this thesis investigates how the value of an object is tied to the role it plays in symbolic activities, which formed the basis of court relations at the end of the fifteenth century. This study thus examines the courts of Italy (particularly Ferrara and Naples) through the myriad of objects—statues, paintings, jewellery, furniture, and heraldry—that were valued for their subject matter, material forms, histories, and social functions. Such objects are considered not only as components of court life, but also as agents which activated the symbolic practices that became integral to relations within and between courts. These activities—the exchange of diplomatic gifts, the consumption of precious objects, the displaying of collectibles, and the bestowing of knightly orders—were all ways that objects acted as points of contact between individuals, giving rise to new associations and new interests. The end of the fifteenth century was a pivotal moment in the courts of Italy, fraught with alliances and counter-alliances involving not only the courts on the Italian peninsula but also abroad. The court was an important space where individuals sought to assert and legitimise their power, and this was often done through material and visual means. The court is thus examined from diverse angles, taking the object as a starting point, and tracing relationships and networks through visual, textual, material, and literary sources. Shifting the focus away from artistic intentions and patronage, this study examines how objects constitute relations, often in unpredictable ways, not only forging connections but also revealing instabilities and latent hostilities. The constant circulation of precious objects in the late fifteenth century reveals a system of value which placed importance not only on ownership, but also on the replication, copying,

Abstract:
The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) has been used with children with autism and other developmental disabilities as an alternative to vocal communication. Some researchers have reported rapid acquisition of picture-exchange requesting as well as increased vocal speech and increased spontaneous social interactions following PECS training. Earlier research has found that although 3 children with autism learned to exchange pictures for preferred items during PECS training, requesting topographies did not change and vocal speech did not increase after PECS training. The present study evaluated the effects of PECS training on requesting topographies, especially vocal speech, with 3 participants with autism and mental retardation. Only one participant maintained picture-exchange requesting, and none of the participants showed an increase in vocal speech during probe sessions conducted after each PECS training phase.

Abstract:
This study deals with the computer-aided analysis of interlanguage errors made by the participants in intercultural telematic simulations involving university students and professionals from five European countries. The simulation involves the participants in producing a large amount of written discourse, all in English, which is composed and sent via computers as either synchronous or asynchronous communication. Using the Error Tagging Method and Error Editor developed by the Centre for English Corpus Linguistics at the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium, the interlanguage errors, as regards the morphological and lexical aspects, were identified, classified and tagged, while the corrected versions of the deviant forms were added. The following research questions were formulated:1. Are there more errors in the synchronous or asynchronous mode of communication?2. Is there a difference in the type of error to be found in each mode of communication3. Do the different groups have more errors of some types than others?4. Do the different groups make errors that can be associated with their particular first language (L1), in other words, does the L1 influence the type of error predominant in any one group?5. Looking in greater detail at the Spanish participants' output we enquired which errors were salient in these subjects?6. Can we identify the causes of these salient errors in the Spanish L1 group? In the section referring to the theoretical background to our research work, we begin by making reference to the interrelationship of the different functions of language depending on the contextual situation of the communicative event, in our case, as observed in the telematic simulations. We then focus on the notions of communicative competence, and error, from both a historical perspective and with regard to their significance in English as a Foreign Language teaching. The role of Information and Communication Technology in language teaching pedagogy finalises the first section of the thesis. The corpus comprised 42,059 words in the synchronous mode, and 42,625 words in the asynchronous mode.A Correspondence Analysis was carried out with the aim of verifying the relative incidence of error types according to the L1 of the participants by investigating the different variables and their effect on the type and frequency of the errors, depending on the mode of communication. As regards the answers to the research questions formulated, there were indeed more errors in the synchronous mode of communication than the asynchronous, as we hypothesised, although when examining the exact types of errors, some categories were more frequent in the synchronous mode (the formal and grammatical errors, among others), while in the asynchronous, errors of style and lexis were higher. A further analysis of the data revealed that the frequency of error types varied with each different L1 group participating in the simulation, and when the Correspondence Analysis was carried out, this showed that highly relevant associations could be established as regards the relation between participants' L1 and specific error types. After examining the results, we concluded that the L1 of the learners does in fact influence the type of error made. Following this comparative analysis of interlanguage output, we focused on the errors in the corpus made by the Spanish L1 group, classifying them, and commenting on their nature and frequency. The results obtained revealed that mother tongue interference appears to be the cause of a significant number of errors in the formal and lexical categories.

Abstract:
With significantly growing number of smart low-power devices during recent years, the issue of energy efficiency has taken an increasingly essential role in the communication systems’ design. This thesis aims at designing distributed and energy efficient transmission schemes for wireless networks using game theory and instantly decodable network coding (IDNC) which is a promising network coding subclass. We study the cooperative data exchange (CDE) scenario in which all devices cooperate with each other by exchanging network coded packets until all of them receive all the required information. In fact, enabling the IDNC-based CDE setting brings several challenges such us how to extend the network lifetime and how to reduce the number of transmissions in order to satisfy urgent delay requirements. Therefore, unlike most of existing works concerning IDNC, we focus not only on the decoding delay, but also the consumed energy. First, we investigate the IDNC-based CDE problem within small fully connected networks across energy-constrained devices and model the problem using the cooperative game theory in partition form. We propose a distributed merge-and-split algorithm to allow the wireless nodes to self-organize into independent disjoint coalitions in a distributed manner. The proposed algorithm guarantees reduced energy consumption and minimizes the delay in the resulting clustered network structure. We do not only consider the transmission energy, but also the computational energy consumption. Furthermore, we focus on the mobility issue and we analyse how, in the proposed framework, nodes can adapt to the dynamic topology of the network. Thereafter, we study the IDNC-based CDE problem within large-scale partially connected networks. We considerate that each player uses no longer his maximum transmission power, rather, he controls his transmission range dynamically. In fact, we investigate multi-hop CDE using the IDNC at decentralized wireless nodes. In such model, we focus on how these wireless nodes can cooperate in limited transmission ranges without increasing the IDNC delay nor their energy consumption. For that purpose, we model the problem using a two-stage game theoretical framework. We first model the power control problem using non-cooperative game theory where users jointly choose their desired transmission power selfishly in order to reduce their energy consumption and their IDNC delay. The optimal solution of this game allows the players at the next stage to cooperate with each other through limited transmission ranges using cooperative game theory in partition form. Thereafter, a distributed multihop merge-and-split algorithm is defined to form coalitions where players maximize their utilities in terms of decoding delays and energy consumption. The solution of the proposed framework determines a stable feasible partition for the wireless nodes with reduced interference and reasonable complexity. We demonstrate that the co-operation between nodes in the multihop cooperative scheme achieves a significant minimization of the energy consumption with respect to the most stable cooperative scheme in maximum transmission range without hurting the IDNC delay

Abstract:
AbstractThe way public procurers interact with the supply market is developing from purely transactional towards more resource focused and collaborative exchanges. Still, what seems to be missing in the public procurement culture is knowledge of how to connect to a wider network of resource providers. We do not have adequate understanding about customer orientation in public sector, nor about customer-centric ecosystem. This is especially true in public health services; systems that are under huge transformation. In this paper, we have followed that development to understand: How can public health care transformation towards customer-oriented ecosystems be orchestrated? We had a unique opportunity to follow the renewal of the healthcare system in Finland, having access to interview those involved in planning the system. In total 17 in-depth interviews enabled us to create understanding of this challenge.

Abstract:
Both infrastructure and research, make communications and exchanges between distant places possible. As a consequence, geographic positions and administrative borders are less and less significant compared to the polarity of the individual cities. From the port and infrastructural systems’ point of view, Trieste, can closely resemble this model by strengthening the two drivers for development, quality of life and employment opportunity. The specificity that needs to be investigated is the complex system that joins port logistics with innovation promoted by AREA Science Park among others.

Abstract:
Many health systems fail to facilitate the seamless movement and management of patients between different providers and different levels of care. Poor coordination and continuity of care can result in suboptimal patient outcomes and the inefficient utilisation of scarce healthcare resources. Interactive communication holds promise as a method to improve coordination between primary and specialty care. Interactive communication refers to planned, timely, two-way exchanges of pertinent clinical information directly between primary care and specialist physicians. Such communication may occur, for example, through face-to-face exchanges, videoconferencing, telephone, or contact by email.

Abstract:
Science communication has shifted significantly in recent decades. From an early, widespread understanding that scientific findings were disseminated in a linear, closed pathway, there is now widespread acknowledgement of the need for more comprehensive and inclusive participation in science [cf. Massarani et al., 2017; Schäfer et al., 2015]. The project “Wir forschen”, which is part of the project “Innovation Hub 13 – fast track to transfer” coordinated by Technical University of Applied Science Wildau and Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, explores methodological and practical characteristics of citizen science as a form of science communication. In this project, we outline an argumentation of understanding citizen science as science communication and furthermore introduce the term citizen science communication. In the processual course of the projects, different instruments of science communication come into play, which establish a dialog between the actors and initiate exchange with different intentions and approaches. In doing so, the project contributes to the science of science communication.

Abstract:
While this heading should not dominate the report, the impacts of COVID-19 on the delivery of many aspects of the project need to be stated, especially as 2020 was the core year for partners and stakeholders to progress on many fronts with full familiarity of the project work. The effects of COVID-19 and its restrictions have been varied, but as the project was well established, with existing relationships developed, the effects could have been much worse. While in mid-2020 there was a pause in activities, and partners readjusted their businesses and operations to the new conditions, by Autumn 2020 most were familiar and active with digital means of communication. Once adopted, the change to online working for all participants has allowed a quicker and easier exchange of information, and meetings were better attended.

Abstract:
The article studies social media as a communication platform during the war. The set of mass communication tools to meet the audience’s information needs, coordination of volunteer activities, popularization of the volunteer movement, and involvement of the Internet community in helping the Armed Forces were analyzed. During the Russian-Ukrainian war, social media became the platform where the exchange of information takes place much faster; good analytics could be found quickly, which were pushed out of the information space. Also, social media have taken on the role of a platform where you can coordinate work, unite society around important issues, organize assistance to the army, and report on the needs of the Armed Forces. That is why the presentation of volunteering in social media is considered a relevant research topic because the presentation of volunteering in social networks has generally changed the content of blogging. Stars of show business, politicians, people of art, and educational and scientific fields have done incredible things with social media’s help in organizing military aid. We believe that the volunteer movement through social media has expanded the functions and role of these communication platforms, demonstrating the importance of Internet communication and the effectiveness of using the latest media tools in wartime. The historiography of the study covers the works of Ukrainian and foreign scientists. Among them are L. Horodenko, V. Hvozdiev, B. Potiatynyk, G. Synorub, A. Rohulskyi, D. Rashkoff, and others. The war situation in Ukraine has opened up new requests for blogging activities, exceptional support, and initiation of volunteering. The content of bloggers is now 80 percent filled with the topic of war. The presentation of volunteer work is considered individually and collectively on behalf of foundations and public organizations. We believe that a significant advantage of an active volunteer movement in social networks is fast communication, which contributes to the rapid resolution of crucial tasks. Keywords: social media, volunteering, information, war.

Abstract:
Even before the corona pandemic broke out in 2020, the role of digitalisation became more and more apparent within Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) processes. Since the pandemic, intermediary organisations that bridge the distance between academia and the world of business to pave the way for successful university-industry linkages have not primarily been able to build on face-to-face-encounters to create those relations. Based on an ongoing research project, this paper examines how digitally mediated communications potentially enhance or limit knowledge and technology transfer that is primarily based on face-to-face interactions. On the one hand, the use of digitally mediated communications seem to foster the spatial expansion of networks, save travel times and costs and foster a special form of social inclusion. University-industry-relations, on the other hand, still rely on a positive evaluation of face-to-face contacts and geographical proximity for trust to develop between heterogeneous partners. Here, actors with bridging functions like transfer scouts are vital in enabling a regular communicative exchange to create commitment, social cohesion and cooperation in digital contexts. Although the relevance of digitalised transfer processes has been increasing over time, an important set of activities, involving face-to-face contacts and co-location, currently still plays a major role for transfer intermediaries in university-industry-relations.
