Abstract:
Abstract. Introduction. At the current stage of development of economics, education, science and technology, the role of communication in interpersonal and business interaction of people is of particular importance, and therefore the urgency of training future professionals in the new environment is growing. There is a need to conduct research and reveal the essence of the concept of mass communication management. It should be noted that communication is seen as a complex multifaceted process of establishing and developing contacts between people, which generates the needs of joint activities and which includes the exchange of information, development of a common strategy of interaction of perception and understanding of another person. Purpose. The aim of the article is to generalize scientific ideas about the theoretical aspects of business communication ethics in mass communication management. Results. In order to form the methodological foundations of the new paradigm of mass communication management, there is a need to analyze the basic categories of communication. Research shows that there are different approaches to defining the categories of “interaction”, “communication” and their role in the management of mass communication. As a result of the research the main features of business communication, its types and forms are singled out. It is determined that communication is a complex process that consists of interdependent aspects, where one of the most important is the ethics of business communication. All information processes in society, we can refer to the term “social communication”. Thus “business communication” is defined as communication which purpose is the organization and optimization of industrial, scientific, commercial or other activity where interests of business, instead of concrete interlocutors come first. Conclusions. It is obvious that the importance of communication in business at the present stage of development of society is constantly growing. This process is explained by the fact that the interaction of communicators in the process of communication inevitably implies their certain mood, moral readiness to participate in the communication process. Such readiness often (and always in the process of business communication) acquires a conscious, volitional character, although sometimes it appears as something deeper, as a kind of subconscious entity. The importance of communication in management is explained by the achievement of the goal both in the organizational process of the enterprise and in the effective exchange of information. We are convinced that business development is possible with the introduction of effective communications as the main tool of the manager.

Abstract:
Currently, the industry is using the MODBUS communication method, utilizing RS485 for the distributed equipment and network construction. This method has a rather good transmission and reception distance but has a disadvantage in that it is a half-duplex communication method that cannot simultaneously transmit and receive. Therefore, there is a great need for a full-duplex communication system that can simultaneously transmit and receive two-wire communications. Therefore, in this paper, we propose new communication hardware equipment that can implement a full-duplex communication method by communication signal level in order to overcome the disadvantage of communication speed when using a full-duplex communication method by time division method. The proposed communication hardware is a structure that can transmit and receive at the same time in such a way that two pieces of equipment communicating by two-wire communication can apply the outgoing signal to the same communication line and detect the received signal at the same time. Therefore, the receiving side can analyze the received signal based on the information on the current transmission signal. This signal can only be analyzed by the two communicating devices, indicating that communication security is very good.

Abstract:
Communication is a process of conveying messages from a communicator to a communicant. Communication has elements including communicators, news, media, communicants, and feedback. All of these elements will be interrelated with one another. The rules in the communication process can also be referred to as law and ethics in communication. Sometimes we are a part of the elements of communications that do not understand the law and ethics in communications. The study of law and ethics in communication is not only related to mass media, such as social media, etc. But in communicating directly there are also laws and ethics in communications. In several cases related to laws and ethics in communication, in these cases affecting mothers and teenagers, due to a lack of understanding and knowledge in communication ethics, sometimes they are trapped in the realm of law which will ensnare them in dealing with applicable laws and regulations. Therefore, guidance related to law and ethics in communicating, both direct and through the media, is significant and must always be carried out. So that a sense of comfort and peace is created and no one is harmed in the communication process. This legal and communication ethics coaching will be doing for five times, as stated in the schedule. Training is carried out simultaneously by the coaching team and members. Full text
Abstract:
This thesis addresses the transmission of video over third generation radio access networks. The first part of the thesis investigates the capabilities of Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Networks (UTRAN) in terms of the provision of multimedia communications. The error performance and traffic requirements of real-time video transmission over circuit switched and packet switched connections are examined. The effect of network parameter settings upon video performances is evaluated, and optimum radio bearer configurations for the transmission of video are derived. A method of estimating received video quality after transmission over error prone environments is developed. The quality estimation is based on a distortion model, which accurately models the overall distortion seen in decoder frame reconstruction. This includes quantisation distortion, concealment distortion, and error propagation. Based on the developed performance model, optimum MTU (Maximum Transfer Unit) size for efficient wireless video communications over a packet switched access network is derived. The second part of the thesis investigates quality enhancement techniques for multimedia traffic transmitted over wireless channels. Quality enhancement is achieved at three levels of the transmission process: link level, application level and system level. Link level quality enhancement techniques are designed to optimise the allocation of link level parameter values according to the media characteristics. A novel Unequal Error Protection scheme and a novel Unequal Power Allocation scheme are designed to exploit the inherent diversity in the subjective importance of different sections of compressed media. The algorithms are developed and analysed for transmission of video over 3G wireless systems. The effectiveness of these algorithms is demonstrated through the results of simulated transmission over a UMTS channel. Application level quality enhancement techniques are designed to explore the time-varying nature of the wireless channel. A number of link adaptation schemes are proposed for real time video communication and real-time video streaming over 3G wireless systems. These algorithms are designed to enhance the perceptual video quality, and the system utilisation. This is achieved by adapting the allocated radio network parameters and the source parameters, according to a feedback channel condition. Simulation results show a significant performance improvement compared to non-adaptive schemes. Finally, system level adaptation techniques are designed for efficient radio resource allocation in multi-user scenarios. Two adaptive resource allocation schemes are proposed and analysed for real-time video communications in a UMTS system. The proposed algorithms are shown to provide improved performances in terms of average received video quality and user satisfaction. Key words: Wireless Communication, Multimedia communication. Video Transmission.

Abstract:
Change is a prominent feature of the organizational life. Nowadays companies rely on implementing large-scale Information Technology (IT) systems in order to enhance their organizational performance. Such technochanges, similarly to planned organizational changes, unfold in stages and have an impact on the organizational members. They, however, are not immune to failures. In this respect, the process of communication has been recognized as a critical success factor and an integrative part of every change initiative. Therefore, this study has investigated the communication practices during technochange, how employees perceive them and eventually, how the communication can be enhanced in order to assure the employees’ engagement. This has been done by conducting a case study at an office of a company in Stockholm, Sweden. The study was carried out through a combination of qualitative data collection methods. The data was analyzed with a help of a theoretical framework and sorted in themes that emerged from the collected empirics. The findings indicate the process of communication has been considered and acknowledged by the case organization. The use of several communication channels for disseminating of  hange information and collecting employees’ input have formed the employees’ perception of the change and communication processes. Specifically, intranet and meetings accommodate the applied one-way communication channels, while workshops and trainings represent the applied more participative communication methods. Furthermore, the study illustrates that the non-implementers are not a homogenous group and different stakeholders perceive the  hange in different ways that in turn creates different communication needs. Those findings lead to identification of improvement areas and practical suggestions for implementers and managers. From a theory perspective, this thesis makes an attempt to gain deeper understanding of specific communication approaches and their effect on employees in the context of technochange.

Abstract:
Technological advances have resulted in the development of wireless sensor applications. The densely distributed sensors, generally used for data gathering, environmental monitoring, industrial automation or surveillance, involve often low data rates and low transmission ranges. Despite the progress in software and hardware technologies, the energy efficiency is still one of the important constraints for the design of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). For wireless sensor applications, nodes are usually deployed with reduced energy resources and without capability of battery replacement. Several techniques could be used to minimize the energy consumption of WSN. In this thesis we focus the physical layer and we propose to reduce the energy consumption by using low energy coding schemes. Firstly, a study allows us to deduce that in AWGN channel, Minimum-Energy Coding based on OOK modulation is energy efficiency, but at the price of lower spectrum efficiency. Only the transmission power is considered and the consumption of electronic circuits is not taken into account. Then, different energy consumption models are introduced to achieve energy efficiency analysis using realistic devices. The fact that Minimum-Energy coding based on OOK improves the energy efficiency performance is confirmed and the limits of practical circuits are highlighted. At last, the network protocol is addressed by introducing the ARQ error control protocol. Finally, the energy efficiency of an autonomous remote control is improved by using OOK orthogonal modulation and a real demonstrator is realized

Abstract:
Thesis (MScEng)--Stellenbosch University, 2012.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: A low earth orbit satellite system can be useful in numerous communication applications where physical connections are not possible. Communication time available from any point on earth to the satellite is less than one hour per day. This one hour is fragmented into smaller time slots due to the satellite orbiting. This is not much time to transfer data and there is even less time available to transfer data when there are other external factors affecting the system. It is thus crucial to optimise the satellite communications link so that more data can be transferred per orbit. The goal of this thesis is to improve the performance of a low earth orbit satellite communication channel by varying certain parameters of the system, such as the protocol used, modulation scheme, packet size, transmission power etc. and then to observe how these parameters influence the system. The protocols that were chosen to be implemented are CSMA-CA, CSMA-CA with DSSS technology and Round-Robin Polling. A simulator for each protocol was designed with the Opnet platform, so that specific parameters could be changed and the results observed, in order to optimise the communications link between the satellite and ground stations. The results showed that there is no particular configuration of modulation scheme, packet size, transmission power etc. presenting the best overall solution for LEO satellite communications. It must be considered what the specific LEO satellite application would be used for and the characteristics required by that specific application. A suitable configuration must subsequently be chosen from the set of configurations available to satisfy most of the application requirements.

Abstract:

Though eating disorders are a serious public health threat, misinformation about these potentially deadly diseases is widespread. This study examines eating disorder information from a wide variety of sources including medical journals, news reports, and popular social activist authors. Examples of misinformation were identified, and three aspects of eating disorders (prevalence, mortality, and etiology) were chosen as key indicators of scientific illiteracy about those illnesses. A case study approach was then adopted to trace examples of misinformation to their original sources whenever possible. A dozen examples include best-selling books, national eating disorder information clearinghouses; the news media; documentary feature films; and a PBS television Nova documentary program. The results provide an overview of the ways in which valid information becomes flawed, including poor journalism, lack of fact-checking, plagiarism, and typographical errors. Less obvious—and perhaps even more important—much of the misinformation results from scientific research being co-opted to promote specific sociopolitical agendas. These results highlight a significant gap in science communication between researchers, the medical community, and the public regarding these diseases, and recommendations to address the problem are offered.

Abstract:
Abstract. The traditional autonomous vehicle (AV) architecture places a heavy burden on graphics processing units of the vehicle due to heavy signal processing requirements. Ultimately this results in performance degradation in AVs. This is mainly due to advanced sensors, which enable the vision for AVs, like Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), radars and cameras. In most of the AV models accepted by many leading automobile companies, LiDAR plays a significant role. It generates a high definition (HD) point cloud of the surroundings to obtain a precise map. AV makes decisions based on that by processing Terabyte (Tb) scale data within the AV. Still, vehicle-mounted LiDARs are not capable of providing information beyond a human driver’s vision. To provide a solution for the above-mentioned drawbacks of the traditional AVs, we propose an infrastructure based communication architecture to facilitate autonomous driving and communications. A set of coordinated LiDAR modules with integrated transceivers, which are mounted at an elevation with a bird’s eye view, can provide a much larger field of vision (FoV). Decisions are taken from a centralized body. We prove the technical feasibility of the system from sensing and communication point of view. The proposed architecture can play a supportive role with traditional AV architectures and it can be applied to many cases such as to automate harbours and factory floors. In the second part of the thesis, we address a resource allocation problem with ultra-reliable and low latency communication (URLLC) for a factory floor. We have analytically proven the capability of the proposed system to establish a reliable (packet error probability less than 10^(-5)) and low latency (less than 1 ms transmission delay) links with sufficient throughput (kilobit scale) using a convex optimization problem. Latency, throughput and reliability variations are studied under the short packet transmission of the proposed system.

Abstract:
Communication can be defined as the action or effect of communicating, transmitting, or receiving ideas, knowledge; is the ability or capacity to establish a dialogue, an understanding (AURÉLIO, 2020). The intrinsic connection between human beings and the communication process is of significant relevance. By language and expression, communication performs essential functions in several domains, including social interactions, cognitive development, cultural preservation, education, coordination of collective activities and manifestation of creativity. Additionally, communication serves as the foundation for our cultural identity, consolidates our interpersonal bonds and drives the advancement of society. A conception denoted by the growing relevance attributed to the concept of communication and the subsequent increase in research in this domain, and which have their roots in the intrinsic nature of the human being, that seeks to establish communicative interactions to promote harmonious global development.

Abstract:
Working in a fast-paced industrial environment requires experts with new skills: one of these professionals is the technical communicator, whose main task does not imply solely writing instruction manuals for a large variety of products. Her/his duties should focus on managing electronic media, mastering elements of pragmatics, semantics, translation, engineering etc. The technical communicator should also be able to explore basic tools in rhetorical strategies, organizing, designing and editing documents, dealing with ethical issues and not in the least communicating across cultures. Undoubtedly, there is arising quantitative and qualitative labour market demand in the field of technical communication. Therefore, the development of a new master program specialization in the field of technical communication represents both a solution and a challenge, esp. in Romania where there are no academic programs and/or formal training for this profession. The paper addresses the requirements for training programs mainly derived from the outcomes of the Erasmus+Project ,,TecCOMFrame"(A Joint European Academic Framework and Curricula for the Training of Technical Communicators), that is to say the academic competence framework for technical communication and the prototype-curricula and modules (based on this framework) for training in this field. One of these prototype curricula, namely Specialization in Technical Communication within a Master's in Engineering, used to provide a template so that a special curriculum could be tailored according to the needs and goals of the University "Politehnica" of Bucharest, where excellence in engineering education is a must. The paper presents the stages of the elaboration of this curriculum and proposes solutions on conceptual as well as methodological and technological level with a special focus on e-Learning and ICT tools.

Abstract:
As mobile communication becomes more pervasive, there is an increasing need to study the potential uses of wireless organizational communication. The difficulty in analyzing information and communication technology (ICT) in organizational communication is the unintentional split between information processes perspectives and human communication perspectives in the discussions of workplace technology. By merging two constructs, organizational informatics and organizational sensemaking, this paper develops a communicative organizational informatics (COI) framework, which provides a robust perspective on how people communicate through the uses of technology in organizational settings. This communicative informatics framework offers a powerful lens to study the meanings, understandings, uses and gratifications, and potentials of technology in organizations and how it can facilitate workplace communication. A COI analysis of a personal digital assistant (PDA), a Palm VII, with a live wireless connection to a company sales database is examined by applying a usability testing methodology.

Abstract:
The smart city is an emerging notion that is leveraging the Internet of Things (IoT) technique to achieve more comfortable, smart and controllable cities. The communications crossing domains between smart cities is indispensable to enhance collaborations. However, crossing-domain communications are more vulnerable since there are in different domains. Moreover, there are huge different devices with different computation capabilities, from sensors to the cloud servers. In this paper, we propose a lightweight two-layer blockchain mechanism for reliable crossing-domain communication in smart cities. Our mechanism provides a reliable communication mechanism for data sharing and communication between smart cities. We defined a two-layer blockchain structure for the communications inner and between smart cities to achieve reliable communications. We present a new block structure for the lightweight IoT devices. Moreover, we present a reputation-based multi-weight consensus protocol in order to achieve efficient communication while resistant to the nodes collusion attack for the proposed blockchain system. We also conduct a secure analysis to demonstrate the security of the proposed scheme. Finally, performance evaluation shows that our scheme is efficient and practical.

Lubkovych, Igor. METHODS OF JOURNALISTIC COMMUNICATION. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, March 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.50.11096.

Full text
Abstract:
Journalistic communication is professional, its purpose is to obtain information and share it withthe audience. A journalist communicates when he intends to receive information directly from the interlocutor, from documents that the interlocutor has, or by observing the behavior of the interlocutor during the conversation. The most common method is communication in order to obtain verbal information. In the course of communication, a journalist succeeds when he adheres to politeness, clarity, brevity. It is important that the conditions of communication must be prepared or created: a place of communication, participants of communication, demonstration of listening skills, feedback. You should always try to get documentary evidence of what you have heard. An active reaction to what is heard by the journalist should be used to find out how much the interlocutor understands what is being said. At the beginning of the conversation, when the interlocutor expresses his attitude to the event or problem in question, it should not be interrupted. A journalist, like most people, often makes two mistakes when communicating: perceives as truth what is presented and attributes characteristics. Attribution of the characteristic as a psychological error is known since the beginning of the last century. And the perception of everything as the truth has long been inherent in our society.
