Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
A methodology for calculating the correlation factors to combine the long-term dynamic stress components of ship structure from various loads in seas is presented. The proposed methodology is valid for a stationary ergodic narrow-banded Gaussian process. The total combined stress in short-term sea states is expressed by linear summation of the component stresses with the corresponding combination factors. This expression is proven to be mathematically exact when applied to a single random sea. The long-term total stress is similarly expressed by linear summation of component stresses with appropriate combination factors. The stress components considered here are due to wave-induced vertical bending moment, wave-induced horizontal bending moment, external wave pressure, and internal tank pressure. For application, the stress combination factors are calculated for longitudinal stiffeners in midship cargo and ballast tanks of a crude oil tanker. It is found that the combination factors strongly depend on wave heading and period in the short-term sea states. It is also found that the combination factors are not sensitive to the selected probability of exceedance level of the stress in the long-term sense.

Abstract:
The Canadian Standards Association has developed and published a code for the design and construction of fixed offshore structures. This code has been subjected to a comprehensive verification process which has identified several issues warranting further study. One of these relates to the combined effects of wave and iceberg collision loading. At present, this combination is treated by the use of a load combination factor specified in the Code. The present paper describes a recent study which was undertaken to determine the appropriateness of the recommended value of the load combination factor. The study involves a numerical analysis in which loads due to waves alone, an iceberg alone, and an iceberg and waves in combination have been calculated for a range of iceberg and wave parameters. These results have been applied to a first-order reliability analysis in order to study the force levels corresponding to an annual probability of 10−4 or to the onset of global sliding with an annual probability of 10−4. The paper thereby makes recommendations for load combination factors applicable to combined wave–iceberg loading. Abstract:
Under the action of the same wind azimuth, the extreme values of the wind load effect components of building structures are generated in the along-wind, cross-wind, vertical, and torsional directions. In designing the wind-resistant structure, the extreme values of effect components need to be combined to determine the internal force envelope values of members. Complete quadratic combination (CQC) and Turkstra combination rules are often used to determine the combination value of extreme values of wind effect components. The extreme probability distribution expressions of the CQC, and the Turkstra and approximate rules, are derived. The simplified combination Equations and combination coefficients of the CQC and Turkstra approximate rules are proposed in this paper. We use the combination Equations and Monte Carlo simulation method to analyze the accuracy of Turkstra and its approximate rules. The results show that the combination extreme is associated with the correlation coefficients, mean values, ratios of standard deviations, and fluctuating extremes of effect components. The errors between Turkstra and its approximate rules are small when load effect components show a positive correlation. The errors are largest when the standard deviations of components are equal. Our research results provide a theoretical basis for the combination method of wind load effect components of building structures.

Abstract:
There exist some problems in the crash box and anti-collision beam sandwich structure, such as monotone deformation pattern and uneconomical energy absorption performance. In order to raise the deformation capacity and energy absorption performance of sandwich structure, centrosymmetric reentrant honeycomb (CRH) and hexagonal centrosymmetric reentrant honeycomb (HCRH) are proposed based on auxetic reentrant honeycomb (ARH) in this work. Based on HCRH, four kinds of transverse combination structures and two kinds of longitudinal combination structures are obtained. The results of specific energy absorption show that the energy absorption capacity of the angular contact homodromous combination structure (ACOC) is about 3 times that of the other three transverse combination structures. Compared with longitudinal heterodromous combination structure (LHEC), the energy absorption capacity of longitudinal homodromous combination structure (LHOC) is improved by 72.7%.

Abstract:
Load combinations for seismic and other loads are considered. To this aim the equiprobable sets of loads with the corresponding probabilities are analyzed. The combination of motor-car and seismic loads is considered in details. The log-normal distribution law was used as a distribution density functions for car load. The distribution of the earthquake event stream was taken according to Poisson's law, which makes it possible to estimate the design seismic intensity. In the frame of this intensity peak ground accelerations were estimated. The dependence of the combination coefficient of the seismic load on the combination coefficient of the motor-road load was obtained. The results obtained show, that combination coefficients in Performance Based Designing should be calculated separately for each input level. For the design earthquake and the maximum design earthquake the combination coefficients vary significantly. The values of the combination coefficients are determined mainly by the frequency of the design actions and to a lesser extent they depend on the seismic activity of the building site.

Abstract:
Most of the existing clustering algorithms are often based on Euclidean distance measure. However, only using Euclidean distance measure may not be sufficient enough to partition a dataset with different structures. Thus, it is necessary to combine multiple distance measures into clustering. However, the weights for different distance measures are hard to set. Accordingly, it appears natural to keep multiple distance measures separately and to optimize them simultaneously by applying a multiobjective optimization technique. Recently a new clustering algorithm called ‘multiobjective evolutionary clustering based on combining multiple distance measures’ (MOECDM) was proposed to integrate Euclidean and Path distance measures together for partitioning the dataset with different structures. However, it is time-consuming due to the large-sized genes. This paper proposes a fast multiobjective fuzzy clustering algorithm for partitioning the dataset with different structures. In this algorithm, a real encoding scheme is adopted to represent the individual. Two fuzzy clustering objective functions are designed based on Euclidean and Path distance measures, respectively, to evaluate the goodness of each individual. An improved evolutionary operator is also introduced accordingly to increase the convergence speed and the diversity of the population. In the final generation, a set of nondominated solutions can be obtained. The best solution and the best distance measure are selected by using a semisupervised method. Afterwards, an updated algorithm is also designed to detect the optimal cluster number automatically. The proposed algorithms are applied to many datasets with different structures, and the results of eight artificial and six real-life datasets are shown in experiments. Experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithms can not only successfully partition the dataset with different structures, but also reduce the computational cost.

Abstract:
It is sometimes desirable to implement filters using a transpose-form filter structure. However, managing image borders is generally considered more complex than it is with the more commonly used direct-form structure. This paper explores border handling for transpose-form filters, and proposes two novel mechanisms: transformation coalescing, and combination chain modification. For linear filters, coefficient coalescing can effectively exploit the digital signal processing blocks, resulting in the smallest resources requirements. Combination chain modification requires similar resources to direct-form border handling. It is demonstrated that the combination chain multiplexing can be split into two stages, consisting of a combination network followed by the transpose-form combination chain. The resulting transpose-form border handling networks are of similar complexity to the direct-form networks, enabling the transpose-form filter structure to be used where required. The transpose form is also significantly faster, being automatically pipelined by the filter structure. Of the border extension methods, zero-extension requires the least resources.

Abstract:
Perspective structures of machine and tractor units for combination of technological operations when performing of the field mechanized works are offered. Combination is based on the operations coinciding on agrotechnical terms of the performed works: introduction of mineral fertilizers - stubble processing of the soil; hulling of an eddish - application of fertilizers; chisel plowing soils - introduction of mineral fer-tilizers; crops of intermediate cultures - processing of the soil and etc. Efficiency of combination is determined by higher quality of the performed works without gap by time, moisture economy, elimination of the losses brought in the soil of materials (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides), respect for threading and rhythm of production processes, decrease in need for the equipment and a labor power and all cost types (labor, cash, energy). All this promotes increase in competitiveness of the made products. Completion of the offered new structures of multipurpose aggregates is based on use of the serial basic machines checked in production (deep-rippers, plows, cultivators, disk tools, seeders, etc.) equipped with various devices for introduction of mineral fertilizers, seeds, their seal which are also checked in or-dinary operation to the soil on the optimum depth and a compacting of crops. Except economic effect of combination of transactions by the provided aggregates are obvious agro-nomical and cost efficiency: decrease in consolidation and a puddled condition of the soil that influences its fertility, complete use of soil moisture that guarantees amicable shoots and future harvest.

The analysis of elastoplastic structures under a combination of static and dynamic loads is examined. It is shown that under the hypothesis of a ductile behavior, progressive distortion is the leading failure mechanism. Procedures are described to compute: (a) the equivalent damping due to hysteretic losses; (b) frequency shifting due to structural softening in the plastic fields; (c) ductility effects on dynamic loads; and (d) ratcheting due to a combination of static and dynamic loads.

Abstract:
Combining the application of the shakedown theory and a multiscale approach to analysis of fatigue allows interpreting all types of fatigue problems in an efficient manner. The description of the stabilized mechanical state after shakedown at the engineering macroscopic scale and at the mesoscopic scale of grains gives access to the engineering values which will drive the fatigue damage of the structure. The evolution of stress and strain tensors thus obtained for a cycle of fatigue allows predicting the fatigue strength of structures. At high cycle fatigue (HCF), when elastic shakedown takes place, the fatigue strength can be described by a simple combination of mesoscopic shear amplitude and hydrostatic tension at any point of the calculated structure, irrespective of the complexity of the structure and the loading. Two new developments incorporating spectral or modal approaches allow analyzing the fatigue resistance of structures undergoing vibrations in a very efficient manner. At low cycle fatigue (LCF), from the stabilized state of stress and strain, the fatigue strength is derived from a combination of the inelastic strain energy and the hydrostatic pressure. Numerous examples of fatigue analysis are presented.

Abstract:
Solar photovoltaic (SPV) buildings are at the cutting edge of renewable energy technology, offering a promising solution to meet our growing energy needs while minimizing environmental impact. This comprehensive review explores the multifaceted realm of solar PV buildings, examining their design, construction, energy performance compared to traditional structures, environmental consequences, and future possibilities. SPV buildings hold significant potential in promoting sustainability and achieving energy self-sufficiency. These structures not only generate clean energy but also contribute surplus electricity to the grid, enhancing community resilience and reducing dependence on traditional energy sources. Design and construction innovation involves implementing advanced architectural designs, utilizing smart building management systems, and incorporating renewable materials. These practices not only improve energy efficiency but also enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of structures. Performance evaluations consistently show that SPV buildings outperform traditional structures in terms of energy efficiency, carbon footprint reduction, and long-term cost-effectiveness. This translates to reduced energy consumption and environmental burdens. Environment issues such as energy-intensive panel production and waste disposal necessitate ongoing research to mitigate any negative environmental impact, thus necessitating technological developments to minimize these ramifications. SPV buildings represent the future of energy-efficient construction, leading the way to a cleaner and more eco-friendly world. Through tireless research and innovation, these structures may soon become mainstream solutions, providing environmental preservation as well as energy independence benefits for society at large.

Abstract:
Derivations under different grammar formalisms allow extraction of various dependency structures. Particularly, bilexical deep dependency structures beyond surface tree representation can be derived from linguistic analysis grounded by CCG, LFG, and HPSG. Traditionally, these dependency structures are obtained as a by-product of grammar-guided parsers. In this article, we study the alternative data-driven, transition-based approach, which has achieved great success for tree parsing, to build general dependency graphs. We integrate existing tree parsing techniques and present two new transition systems that can generate arbitrary directed graphs in an incremental manner. Statistical parsers that are competitive in both accuracy and efficiency can be built upon these transition systems. Furthermore, the heterogeneous design of transition systems yields diversity of the corresponding parsing models and thus greatly benefits parser ensemble. Concerning the disambiguation problem, we introduce two new techniques, namely, transition combination and tree approximation, to improve parsing quality. Transition combination makes every action performed by a parser significantly change configurations. Therefore, more distinct features can be extracted for statistical disambiguation. With the same goal of extracting informative features, tree approximation induces tree backbones from dependency graphs and re-uses tree parsing techniques to produce tree-related features. We conduct experiments on CCG-grounded functor–argument analysis, LFG-grounded grammatical relation analysis, and HPSG-grounded semantic dependency analysis for English and Chinese. Experiments demonstrate that data-driven models with appropriate transition systems can produce high-quality deep dependency analysis, comparable to more complex grammar-driven models. Experiments also indicate the effectiveness of the heterogeneous design of transition systems for parser ensemble, transition combination, as well as tree approximation for statistical disambiguation.

For seismic design of composite frame and reinforced concrete core hybrid structures in high-rise buildings, the response spectrum method is influenced to a large extent by mode combination rules and number of combined modes. The dynamic characteristics of composite frame and concrete core hybrid structures were studied through modal analysis, natural vibration periods and mode shape of hybrid structures had calculated and analyzed, the results show that the natural vibration frequencies are near, the complete quadratic combination of mode combination rule was recommended for avoiding higher order mode shape lose in the response spectrum method. The reasonable number of combined modes for response spectrum method were studied by truncation error analysis, it is proposed that more than 20 modes are combined. The results of the time history analysis und The three dimensional finite element er three earthquake waves were compared with results of response spectrum, indicating that the maximum response of hybrid structures can be obtained under reasonable mode number.

Dent resistance of structures is one of the important design parameters to consider in automotive, aerospace, packaging and transportation of fragile goods, civil engineering and marine industries. It is important to study the dynamic impact response of various combinations of skin and core materials which can provide desired fracture toughness and highest strength to weight ratio for such applications. This paper discusses the low velocity impact response of sandwich structures having unique combination of mild steel as skin material bonded to thermoplastics/PU foam as core material. HDPE, LDPE and polypropylene were the choice of thermoplastics and an optimum combination of materials for the sandwich structure was evaluated using drop-weight experimental set up. It is observed that LDPE is the best choice of core material for the sandwich structures considered.

Abstract:
This study identifies the optimal combination of active and passive thermoplastic materials for producing multi-material programmable 3D structures. These structures can undergo shape changes with varying radii of curvature over time when exposed to hot water. The research focuses on examining the thermal, thermomechanical, and mechanical properties of active (PLA) and passive (PRO-PLA, ABS, and TPU) materials. It also includes the experimental determination of the radius of curvature of the programmed 3D structures. The pairing of active PLA with passive PRO-PLA was found to be the most effective for creating complex programmable 3D structures capable of two-sided transformation. This efficacy is attributed to the adequate apparent shear strength, significant differences in thermomechanical shrinkage between the two materials, identical printing parameters for both materials, and the lowest bending storage modulus of PRO-PLA among the passive materials within the activation temperature range. Multi-material 3D printing has also proven to be a suitable method for producing programmable 3D structures for practical applications such as phone stands, phone cases, door hangers, etc. It facilitates the programming of the active material and ensures the dimensional stability of the passive components of programmable 3D structures during thermal activation.
